OUR TOPIC TODAY IS GOING TO BE DISCUSSION AROUND THE DESIGN OF THE NEW ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF ACADEMICS WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON FACULTY SUPERVISION AND THE NEW SCHEDUELING TEAM.

BUT BEFORE WE BEGIN I WANT TO HAND THINGS OFF TO OUR PROVOST FOR HER OPENING REMARKS.

I'M EXCITED FOR YOU TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE THAT ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ADOPTED AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

YOUR VICE PROVOST SPENT A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF TIME ENVISIONING ON THEIR OWN AND WITH COLLEGUES FROM THE REST OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, WORK FORCE AND ADVANCEMENT AND STUDENT SUCCESS TO ENSURE WE ALIGN ALL OF OUR STRUCTURES TO BEST SUPPORT OUR STUDENT NEEDS.

LAST WEEK WE POSTED POSITIONS FOR THE DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS AND FOR DEPARTMENT CHAIRS FOR VARIOUS DISAPLINES.

TODAY'S SESSION WILL PROVIDE MORE DETAILS ON THOSE ROLES WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

JUST IN TERMS OF SELECTING WHO WILL OCCUPY THESE POSITIONS I WANT TO ENSURE THAT YOU FULL TIME FACULTY WILL BE ENGAGED IN THE PROCESS FACULTY WILL BE ESSENTIAL TO THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THESE NEW ACADEMIC LEADERS.

SINCE DALLAS COLLEGE IS ONLY FOUR MONTHS OLD, IT IS NECESSARY TO ALIGN OUR HIRING PRACTICES WITH OUR NEW ORGANIZATION AFTER STRUCTURE.

AS WE BEGIN TO FORM SEARCH COMMITTEES KNOW THAT FACULTY WILL BE ENGAGED BASED UPON THEIR SCHOOL AFFILIATION NOT THEIR CAMPUS IT IS CRITICAL THAT WE BECOME FOCUSED ON OUR ALIGNMENT BY SCHOOL AND DISCIPLINE NOT CAMPUS LOCATION.

TO THAT END THERE WILL BE SEVEN SEARCH COMMITTEES ONE FOR EACH SCHOOL.

THEY WILL BE COMPRISED OF TWO TO FOUR FACULTY MEMBERS PER SCHOOL AND AN EQUAL NUMBER OF STAFF AND ADMINISTRATION.

THESE CANDIDATES WILL EXPRESS AND RECOMMEND CANDIDATES FOR THE VICE PROVOST CONSIDERATION.

WE ARE EXCITED THAT FACULTY WILL HAVE A MEANINGFUL VOICE IN THIS PROCESS.

WE'RE EXTREMELY EXCITED TO INTRODUCE THE CHAIR POSITION.

A DEPARTMENT CHAIR POSITION IS THE POSITION THAT IS DEDICATED EXCLUSIVELY TO FACULTY.

DEPARTMENT CHAIRS WILL PLAY A VERY VITAL ROLE WITHIN THE SCHOOL.

THEY WILL EVALUATE THE FACULTY AND ASSIGN THE FACULTY TO THE COURSES IN THE SCHEDULE AND THEY WILL ALSO PROVIDE A MENTOR AND COACHING ROLE.

THEY WILL BE THE ONLY POSITION THAT SUPERVISING FACULTY AND WE WILL NO LONGER HAVE FACULTY SUPERVISING FACULTY.

IT THIS DOES NOT RULE OUT THE POSSIBILITY OF REASSIGNED TIME.

THE DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS IS -- AND WILL NOT DIRECTLY SUPERVISE ANY FACULTY.

THE DEAN'S ROLE IS MORE ORIENTED TOWARD FURTHERING THEIR PROGRAMS PRIORITY AND THEY SUPPORT THE VICE PROVOST IN COORDINATING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN THE DALLAS COLLEGE EXAMPLE STUDENT SUCCESS WORKFORCE AND ALSO INTERFACING THE COMMUNITY.

IN ADDITION TO MANAGING THE DEPARTMENT CHAIRS THEY WILL OVERSEE GALLERIES AND -- SPECIFICS TO THE DISCIPLINES I'VE SPOKEN ENOUGH I'LL TURN IT OVER TO ANITA FOR SCHEDULING CHANGES.

SO IF THE PROPOSED COURSE LIKE THE COURSE THAW MENTIONED IS SHOWN TO BE IN DEMAND LIKE THOSE DATA THEN THERE WILL BE APPROPRIATE TIMED TO OFFER THAT COURSE AND I DO WANT TO EMPHASIS THAT DURING THE SCHEDULING PROCESS WILL THERE WILL BE OPPORTUNITIES TO ENGAGE FACULTY DEPARTMENT CHAIRS AN DEANS AND THAT INPUT WILL BE CRITICAL TO CREATING A SCHEDULE THAT MEETS OUR STUDENT€™S NEEDS.

SCHEDULING RELATED REQUESTS APPLIED BY FACULTY SHOULD BE PASSED ALONG TO THE TEAM AND THEY'LL HAVE A SPECIFIC TEAM ASSIGNED TO EACH THE SCHOOLS.

THE SCHEDULING TEAM WILL MANAGE OVERVIEW AND IMPLEMENT THE ACTUAL SCHEDULING REQUESTS.

THOUGH THE ENROLLMENT MONITORING PROCESS DEVELOPED BY THE TEAM COURSES WILL BE MINIMIZED AND THE PROCESS WILL ALSO ENSURE THE NECESSARY ACTIONS WHEN A STUDENT INTENDED TO ADD OR DROP A COURSE OR CHANGE A COURSE FROM ONE COURSE TO ANOTHER.

SO IF THE STUDENT IS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESULT PROPOSED BY THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR, THE STUDENT IS ALWAYS AT POSSIBLE LIBERTY TO ACTUALLY WANT TO ESCALATE THE SITUATION TO THE DEAN LEVEL.
