GREAT, WE WANT TO WELCOME EVERYBODY.

[Trustee Bravo and State Rep. Victoria Neave: Paying for College Fair]

[00:00:02]

MY NAME IS VICTORIA NEAVE WE'RE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU ALL THIS SATURDAY MORNING, DALLAS COLLEGE TRUSTEE MONICA LIRA BRAVO AND I JUST HAVE HAD THIS EVENT SEVERAL YEARS AND JUST WANT TO WELCOME YOU BEFORE WE KICK IT OFF TO THE UNIVERSITIES.

AND I'M GOING TO I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO MONICA IN JUST A SECOND.

BUT WE TYPICALLY DO THIS EVENT IN PERSON.

WE HAVE SEVERAL HUNDRED FAMILIES THAT TYPICALLY COME IN PERSON.

AND BECAUSE OF COVID, WE ASK YOU TO PLEASE BEAR WITH US.

WE'RE HOPING THAT THIS SYSTEM WORKS AND WE'RE HOPING IS THE BEST FORMAT TO ALLOW FOLKS TO GET OUT INTO THE BREAKOUT ROOMS. I'LL TURN IT OVER IN A FEW MINUTES TO LESLIE AS WELL FROM OUR TEAM.

BUT JUST WANT TO SHARE BRIEFLY MY BACKGROUND AND WHY HAVING THIS EVENT WAS SO, SO IMPORTANT TO US AND TO OUR OFFICE.

I'M A DAUGHTER OF AN IMMIGRANT.

MY DAD CAME TO OUR COUNTRY WITH A SIXTH GRADE EDUCATION AND A DREAM.

AND THE THING THAT HE AND MY MOM EMPHASIZED TO ME OVER AND OVER IS YOU'VE GOT TO FOCUS ON YOUR EDUCATION, GET YOUR EDUCATION, AND YOU CAN GO BE A DOCTOR OR A LAWYER OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT YOU WANT TO BE, THEY SAID.

BUT ALSO, DON'T FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM AND GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY.

AND SO I WANTED TO BECOME AN ATTORNEY SO THAT I CAN REPRESENT OUR COMMUNITY, I CAN LEARN THE LAW AND ONE DAY HOPEFULLY WRITE LAWS.

AND RIGHT NOW, AS A LEGISLATOR, THAT'S WHAT I DO.

I WRITE LAWS.

BUT WE KNOW THAT GOING TO COLLEGE, ESPECIALLY AS FIRST GENERATION, I WAS THE FIRST IN MY FAMILY TO TO GO AND GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE.

A LOT OF TIMES WE DON'T HAVE YOU KNOW, WE'RE WE'RE LEARNING AND MANEUVERING THE PROCESS.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I LEARNED BACK THEN IS WE WANTED TO HAVE THIS EVENT IS HOW TO PAY FOR COLLEGE SO THAT FAMILIES CAN LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT IS A LOAN, WHAT IS A GRANT, WHAT IS THE SCHOLARSHIP, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO PAY BACK? WHAT DO YOU NOT HAVE TO PAY BACK? SO WE'VE GATHERED SOME REALLY AMAZING EXPERTS TODAY TO BE ABLE TO SHARE THAT INFORMATION WITH YOU.

AND WE'RE SO, SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL OF YOU JOINING.

MY NAME IS VICTORIA NEAVE.

WE HAVE LESLIE [INAUDIBLE] WHO IS OUR DISTRICT DIRECTOR RIGHT HERE IN OUR MESQUITE DISTRICT OFFICE.

SO I REPRESENT PART OF EAST DALLAS, PART OF MESQUITE AND PART OF SOUTH GARLAND.

SO IF YOU EVER NEED ANYTHING, DON'T HESITATE TO REACH OUT TO US.

WE ALSO HAVE LEGISLATIVE INTERNSHIPS.

WHEN I WAS A STUDENT IN COLLEGE, I GOT A CHANCE TO INTERN FOR ANOTHER STATE REPRESENTATIVE TO LEARN THE PROCESS AND THE MACHINERY BEHIND HOW TO CREATE LAWS.

AND SO IF ANY OF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GOVERNMENT, PLEASE REACH OUT TO OUR OFFICE SO THAT WE CAN SHARE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR INTERNSHIPS WITH YOU.

BUT WITH THAT, I JUST WE'RE SO EXCITED TO HAVE YOU ALL.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO LESLIE AND THEN OVER TO TO TRUSTEE MONICA LIRA BRAVO.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR BEING WITH US THIS MORNING.

LESLIE.

WE CAN'T HEAR YOU.

I WAS ON MUTE, MY BAD.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, EVERYONE, FOR BEING HERE.

WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE YOU ALL.

WE WISH WE COULD BE IN PERSON, BUT WE KNOW THAT'S NOT REALISTIC RIGHT NOW.

REP.

NEAVE: >>

LESLIE: >> THAT'S NOT REALISTIC RIGHT NOW I'M JUST GOING TO GO SHARE SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT REPRESENTATIVE NEAVE.

SHE REPRESENTS TEXAS HOUSE DISTRICT 107.

OKAY.

I THOUGHT YOU ALL COULDN'T HEAR ME.

SO OVER HER TWO SESSIONS IN THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE.

SHE HAS A PASSED A NUMBER OF 16 BILLS INTO LAW AND COMPREHENSIVE LEGISLATION OF BACKLOGS TO ADDRESS SEXUAL ASSAULT AND BILLS TO HELP INCREASE ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION.

THE LIVING MASTERS ACT WAS ALLOTTED AN UNPRECEDENTED -- VICTORIA WAS NAMED ONE OF THE BEST LEGISLATURES THE BEST OF 2019 AND LEGISLATURE OF THE YEAR BY THE STATE BAR OF TEXAS SPANISH BUSINESS SECTION.

SHE WAS NAMED FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR AS ONE OF THE TOP FIVE AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS OF THE YEAR BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS.

I'LL GO AHEAD AND PASS IT OVER TO LESLIE SO YOU CAN HEAR MORE ABOUT TRUSTEE MONICA LIRA BRAVO.

PEARLA: >> CAN DO IT WITH JUST MY INTRO.

[00:05:04]

THANK YOU VICTORIA AND MONICA.

I SIT ON THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FORMERLY KNOWN AS DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT AND AS YOU CAN SEE MY BACKGROUND WE HAVE JUST CHANGED OUR NAME OVER THE SUMMER BUT WE'RE STILL THE SAME INTUITION AND THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE NOW IS INSTEAD OF HAVING SEVEN DIFFERENT COLLEGES NOW YOU ARE REGISTERED TO DALLAS COLLEGE WHICH MEANS YOU GET ALL THE BENEFITS OF ATTENDING CLASSES AT ANY ONE OF OUR SEVEN CAMPUSES AND WHETHER THAT BY VIRTUAL ENROLLMENT OR IN PERSON.

YOU'LL SEE BY THE NAME CHANGES THAT WE ARE STILL SERVING THE COMMUNITY IN DALLAS COUNTY AND PART OF OUR ROLE IS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

SO WE LOVE TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS LIKE THIS.

ON A PERSONAL NOTE, YOU KNOW, I AM A -- LIKE VICTORIA MY PARENTS WERE IMMIGRANTS AND I HAD VERY LITTLE EDUCATION AND LEARNED THAT WAS THE WAY TO ADVANCE AND WENT TO SMU COLLEGE WITH THE HELP OF LOANS SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS.

AND THEN I WANT ON TO LAW COOL AND ALSO WITH LAW SCHOOL IT WAS LOANS AND A FEW SCHOLARSHIPS AND THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO NAVIGATE THAT BUT THERE WERE TIMES THAT I WAS VERY CONFUSED.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE FAFSA WAS AND I HAD MY SIBLINGS TO HELP ME WITH THAT AND IT TOOK ME FIVE YEARS TO PAY OFF MY STUDENT LOAN DEBT.

SO I'M A HUGE ADVOCATE FORGETTING YOUR EDUCATION FOR LOW COST OR NO COST ESPECIALLY IF YOU PARTICIPATE IN ONE OF OUR PROGRAMS AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

AND SO WE JUST WANT TO SAY WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR JOINING US ON THIS SATURDAY MORNING YOU COULD BE DOING SO MANY OTHER THINGS BUT YEAR HERE WITH US TODAY AND SO THANK YOU AND WELCOME AND I'M GOING TO DO A QUICK LITTLE SUMMARY IN SPANISH.

LESLIE: >> THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TODAY.

WE HOPE THAT YOU'LL FIND THE INFORMATION INFORMATIVE AND I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO OUR DALLAS COLLEGE STAFF THAT IS HELPING RUNNING TODAY'S MEETING ON THIS

[00:10:04]

SATURDAY MORNING.

THANK YOU.

SO WE HAVE TWUG FORCE THAT WILL BE HELPING US WITH THAT AND WE HAVE MORE INFORMATION AND IF THERE IS ANY QUESTIONS WE CAN ADDRESS THAT AS WELL.

HI LESLIE.

IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE STILL UNABLE TO SHARE OUR SCREEN TO DO THE PRESENTATION.

LESLIE: >> YOU'LL BE GIVEN PRESENTER STATUS IN A MINUTE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> HELLO, EVERYONE.

AND THANK YOU FOR JOINING US TODAY.

WE'RE HER WITH THE TEXAS WOMAN'S UNIVERSE ATE AND WE'LL BE PRESENTING OUR COLLEGE 101 PRESENTATION.

SO THE COLLEGE 101 GUIDE TO FINANCIAL AID COVERS STUDENT AID, STATE AID, INSTITUTIONAL AID, AND SCHOLARSHIPS.

SO TODAY WE'LL BE ANSWERING WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID, WHO CAN GET IT.

HOW MUCH CAN YOU GET.

HOW DO YOU APPLY.

WHAT TYPES ARE AVAILABLE.

THEIR AWARDED TO YOU AND YOU CAN RECEIVE THEM OUTSIDE OF SCHOLARSHIPS ALSO AND THEY TYPICALLY DO NOT NEED TO BE PAID PACK.

AND LASTLY WE HAVE WORK STUDY GRANTS AND I WANT TO MENTION THAT THOSE VARY BY SCHOOL AND THEY'RE MERIT BASE AND THEIR AWARDED ON YOUR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AND DO NOT NEED TO BE REPAID AND GRANTS ARE NEED BASED AND ARE BASED ON FINANCIAL NEED AND DO NOT NEED TO BE REPAID.

AND THERE ARE WORK STUDY GRANTS.

THIS A WORD IS BASED ON A MEANS OF FINANCIAL AID.

SO THERE ARE TWO TIMES OF STUDENT LOANS.

A NEED BASE LONE OR A SUBSIDIZED LOAN.

THEN THERE IS A NON-NEED-BASED LOAN AND A NON-SUBSIDIZED LOAN.

AND EASY WAY TO THINK OF THE DIFFERENCE -- NOW I'LL BE PASSING IT OVER TO BRUCE.

>> AND NOW I WILL BE TELLING YOU ABOUT THE 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID APPLICATIONS.

SO NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

SO BREAKDOWN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FAFSA AND THE TASFA.

US SIT ACCIDENTS WILL COMPLETE THE FAFSA.

IF YOU'RE A DACA RECIPIENTS YOU'LL FILL OUT THE TASFA.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW WHAT YOU'LL NEED IN ORDER TO HELP YOUR STUDENT FILL OUT THEIR FAFSA.

SO HERE ARE SOME REQUIRES THAT THEY MUST MEET.

SO STUDENTS MUST HAVE GRADUATES FROM HI SCHOOL AND THE STUDENT MUST HAVE A VALID SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

AND THEY MUST BE ENROLLED IN A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM.

HE THIS MUST MAINTAIN SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS AND THEY MUST NOT BE IN DEFAULT ON A FEDERAL STUDENT LOAN.

IF THE STUDENT IS A MALE THEY MUST BE REGISTERED FOR SELECTIVE SERVICES.

[00:15:06]

ON THE OTHER HAND IF THE STUDENT IS A TASFA APPLICANT HERE ARE SOME REQUIREMENTS FOR THEM.

THE STUDENT MUST GRADUATE HIGH COOL OR COMPLETE A GED.

THE STUDENT MUST BE ENROLLED IN ELIGIBLE DEGREE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM.

THE STUDENT MUST MAINTAIN SATISFY RAY AC DECKING PROGRESS.

AND NOW MARY WILL TALK ABOUT THOSE FORMS.

>> THANK YOU.

AND I WILL BE DISCUSSING ABOUT HOW TO APPLY FOR FAFSA -- AS WELL.

THE SECOND STEP IS TO FILL OUT OF [INAUDIBLE].

>> BEFORE YOU CAN BEGIN FAFSA PLEASE BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION AND YOU AND YOUR PARENT WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO CREATE THIS ONCE.

THIS IS WHAT THE HOME PAGE LOOKS LIKE.

SOME MAY HAVE CREATED THEIR LOG IN EITHER WAY THIS IS WHAT YOU'LL SEE.

THIS IS FOR RETURNING USERS AND NEW USERS.

TO MAKE THE APPLICATION EASIER AND TO MAKE LESS ERRORS YOU CAN USE THE IRS DATA RETRIEVAL TOOL.

IT HELPS LINK YOUR INFORMATION FROM THE IRS WEBSITE.

YOU CAN CHOOSE TO PUT YOUR INFORMATION IN MANUALLY IF NEEDED.

>> THANK YOU MARY.

IF YOU NEED TO SUBMIT THE TASFA, YOU CAN FILL IT OUT ON ONLINE AND THEN PRINT IT OUT.

YOU'LL NEED A SELECTIVE SERVICE REGISTRATION CARD IF YOU'RE A MALE AND IF YOU ARE YOUR PARENTS ARE -- THIS YEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME SOME COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES HAVE THAT ELECTRONICALLY.

YOUR FAFSA CAN BE DONE COMPLETELY ONLINE.

HERE'S A SIMPLE VIEW OF HOW THE APPLICATION WILL LOOK LIKE.

IT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE FAFSA.

IF YOUR POINT PARENTS DO NOT HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY JUST REMEMBER TO USE ALL ZEROS IN THE SOCIAL SECURITY.

>> WHAT IF YOU HAVE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

IF YOU HAVE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES YOU CAN ALWAYS TALK TO THE FINANCIAL AID OFFICE AT THE SCHOOL IN WHICH YOUR APPLYING.

EVEN IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN ACCEPTED YET.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES -- YOU CAN STILL QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL AID.

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES ARE MORE THAN YOU THINK AND EACH COLLEGE UNIVERSITY IS ABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE.

YOUR 2019 TAX FORMS WILL STILL NEED -- SO HERE SOME COMMON FINANCIAL AID SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

THESE ARE GUESS.

SO IF YOUR PARENTS ARE INCARCERATED AND YOUR STUDENT HAS FLED AN ABUSIVE FAMILY ENVIRONMENT OR IF YOUR FAMILY HAS LOST THEIR JOBS AND ARE AFFECTED BY COVID-19 AND THINGS THAT AREN'T CONSIDERED SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES IS IF YOUR PARENTS -- ANOTHER SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE IS STUDENTS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS.

ACCORDING TO THE FAFSA STUDENTS MUST MEET BOTH CONDITIONS TO DETERMINE THEIR STATUS.

FAFSA DEFINES HOMELESSNESS BY LACK OF FIXED AND ADEQUATE HOUSING.

[00:20:08]

MANY STUDENTS WONDER IF THEY CAN FILE AS INDEPENDENT.

IF THEY FILE THEIR TAXES.

HOWEVER, STUDENTS ARE CONSIDERED INDEPENDENT FOR FAFSA IF THEY MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA.

YOU'LL BE TWENTY-ONE BY THE BEGINNING OF THE AWARD YEAR.

ARE MARRIED OR SEPARATES NO DIVORCE.

SINCE AGE 13 YOU HAVE NO LIVING PARENT OR WERE IN FOSTER CARE.

YOU ARE CURRENTLY WORKING ON YOUR MASTERS ARE DOCTORATE OR YOU'RE AN EMANCIPATED MINOR NOW I'LL BE PASSING IT OVER TO BREES.

BREES: >> THANK YOU.

NOW WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

SO EACH COLLEGE YOU APPLY TO WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH AN AWARD LETTER.

ONCE THE SCHOOL HAS PROCESS THEIR FAFSA OR TASFA.

THIS MEANS THAT THE STUDENTS CAN ACCEPT THEIR SCHOLARSHIPS GRANTS OR LOANS.

HOWEVER IF YOU WANT TO REJECT ANY OF THE AWARDS LIKE LOANS YOU WILL BE ABLE TO DO SO.

COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITIES USUALLY PROVIDE AWARD LETTERS IN THE SPRING SEMESTERS BETWEEN MARCH AND MAY.

THIS IS ANOTHER REASON YOU WILL WANT TO COMPLETE THE FAFSA AND TASFA AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

YOU WILL HAVE A LITTLE WITH THE EXACT COST OF ATTEND ANSWER.

AS MENTIONED THE COST OF ATTENDANCE ALSO KNOWN AS THE COS -- THIS IS INCLUDES TUITION AND FEES BOOKS AND SUPPLIES, YOUR HOUSING COSTS, TRANSPORTATION'S IF ANY AND IF YOU HAVE ANY CHILDREN THIS WILL INCLUDE CHILD EXPENSE AS WELL.

THE COST IS CALCULATED AUTOMATIC ALLY THROUGH THE SCHOOL.

FOR EXAMPLE PERSON EXPERIENCES LIKE CLOTHING LAUNDRY AND FOOD WILL VARY FROM EACH STUDENT.

SOME SCHOOLS OFFER A COST OF ATTENDANCE CALCULATOR WHICH CAN BE FOUND ON SCHOOL'S WEBSITE.

THE COST OF ATTEND ANSWER IS ESTIMATED ON THE COST NUMBER OF HOURS THE STUDENT WILL BE ATTENDING.

AS YOU CAN SEE THE COST OF ATTENDANCE BETWEEN LIVING ON CAMPUS/OFF CAMPUS VARIES.

OKAY.

SO HERE ARE SOME IMPORTANT DEADLINES TO KEEP MANY MIND.

YOU WANT TO PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE DEADLINES WHICH COMPLETING EACH APPLICATION.

THE FAFSA -- SO IF YOU HAVE NOT YET COMPLETED YOUR APPLICATION YOU STILL HAVE TIME TO DO SO.

YOU ALSO WANT TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE DEADLINES AND THESE MAY VARY AT EACH SCHOOL AND FOR THOSE INTERESTED AT TWU OUR SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE IS MARCH FIFTEEN.

SO IF YOU ARE LIKE ME AND YOU NEED VISUALS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WITH JUST EXPLAINED TO YOU.

I WILL EXPLAIN WHAT STEPS ARE REQUIRED BY YOU AND YOUR PARENT.

STEP ONE YOU AND YOUR PARENT WILL NEED TO CREATE AN FSAID AND YOU WILL NEED TO STORE IT AND HAVE ACCESS TO IT BECAUSE YOU WILL USE THAT ON YOUR FAFSA AND ONE DAY YOU WON'T HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR HIGH SCHOOL EMAIL.

YOU AND THE STUDENT WILL CONTINUE TO USE THE SAME FSAID EACH YEAR TO RENEW THE FAFSA APPLICATION.

SO STEP TWO YOU'LL START THE FAFSA EACH YEAR IT OPENED ON OCTOBER FIRST.

STEP THREE THE FAFSA HAS THREE SECTIONS THE FIRST IS THE NAME CURRENT ADDRESS

[00:25:07]

SOCIAL SECURITY MARITAL STATUS AND GENDER.

ON STEP FOUR YOU WILL ADD THE SCHOOLS WHICH YOU A PLAN TO APPLY.

YOU CAN SEND TEN SCHOOLS.

SO YOU CAN SEND THE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY YOUR FAFSA APPLICATION.

SO STEP FIVE IS DEPENDENCY STATUS QUESTIONS AND THESE ARE QUESTIONS IS IT THE STUDENT MARRIES, A MEMBER OF THE ARM FORCES, A -- AND EMANCIPATED MINOR.

STEPS SIX AND SEVEN THE PARENTS WILL FILL OUT THE INFORMATION.

SO IF THE PARENT DOES NOT WANT TO SHARE THEIR INFORMATION WITH THE STUDENTS, THEY CAN LOOK IN USING THEIR FSAID AND COMPLETE IN PORTION SEPARATELY.

SO STEP AD USING YOUR FSAID THE PARENT CREATED THEY WILL SIGN IN -- THEY WILL SIGN THE -- SORRY -- THE -- THE PARENTS WILL SIGN THE FAFSA ELECTRONICALLY.

AND STEP NINE IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE YOU AS A STUDENT SIGN THE FAFSA ELECTRONICALLY USING THE FSAID.

SO NOW WE'LL PASSING IT ON TO MARY AND SHE WILL BE READING NEXT.

>> ALL RIGHT.

SO I'M GOING TO READ SOME MYTHS ABOUT FINANCIAL AID AND FOUR FIRST MYTH IS MY PARENTS INCOME IS TOO HIGH AND I WON'T QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL AID.

HERE'S THE TRUDGE.

THERE IS NO INCOME CUT OFF TO CALL QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID.

MANY FACTORS SUCH AS THE SIZE OF YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR YEAR IN SCHOOL ARE -- SO OUR SECOND MYTH IS I CAN'T APPLY FOR FAFSA/TSAFA JUST BE SURE TO INCLUDE ONE SCHOOL.

WE SUGGEST ADDING EACH SCHOOL THAT YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT.

WE'LL HAVE THE FIRST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE IN PLACE AND REMEMBER YOU THAT CAN ALWAYS EDIT THE LIST LATER.

OUR THIRD MYTH.

MY PARENTS AREN'T US SIT ACCIDENTS SO THERE IS NO WAY I'LL GET AID.

WELL, CITIZEN IS NOT A FACTOR AND THE FORM WON'T ASK YOU ABOUT IT.

AND IF YOUR PARENTS DON'T HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER THEY MUST ENTERS.

OUR FOURTH MYTH -- YEAH.

YOU WILL USE YOUR 2019 FAFSA TWO YEARS PRIOR AND YOU WILL TRANSFER THE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM THE INTERN REVENUE SERVICE IF YOU'RE OFFERED THAT OPTION WHEN APPLIES AND YOU'RE GOOD TO GO POOR PAR AND OUR LAST MYTH.

BY PROVIDING THE INFORMATION THE PARENT BECOMES RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR COLLEGE.

WELL, THE DATA IS USED TO DETERMINE YOUR EXCEPTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION AND IT'S USED TO DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF YOUR NEED-BASED AID THAT YOU'RE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE I WILL NOW BE PASSING IT OVER TO.

>> SO THAT'S WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION BUT WE HOPE YOU FOUND IT HOPEFUL AND TO BEGIN THE Q AND A SESSION -- PLEASE FEEL FREE TO RIGHT THEM IN THE CHAT AND THE FIRST COMMON QUESTION IS WHY SHOULD YOU FILL OUT A FAFSA AND THIS GOAL ISN'T ABLE TO TELL YOU FOR ANY OTHER SECOND QUESTION WHY SHOULD I COMPLETE THE FAFSA IN OCTOBER OR AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.

WELL THE FAFSA IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE BASIS.

THE LONGER YOU WAIT TO FILL IT OUT THE LONGER IT WILL TAKE THE SCHOOL TO GIVE YOU YOUR AWARD LETTER.

THIRD QUESTION WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNSUBSIDIZED LOAN IS UNSUB.

WHILE A SUB DOESN'T GAIN INTEREST UNTIL AFTER YOU GRADUATE.

[00:30:05]

IT'S THE BETTER OPTION OF THE TWO.

4TH QUESTION.

WHAT CAN I DO IF THE PARENT DIDN'T HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

YOU CAN STILL COMPLETE YOUR FAFSA AND YOU JUST NEED TO PUT ALL ZEROS WHEN ASKED.

NOW WE OPEN IT UP FOR QUESTIONS.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD QUESTIONS INTO THE CHAT.

>> WHILE WE WAIT FOR SOME QUESTIONS TO COME IN I WANTED TO ASK QUESTIONS THAT ARE MAYBE ON PEOPLE'S MINDS.

SO HOW OFTEN DID YOU FEEL OUT THE FAFSA?

>> I'LL ANSWER THAT.

THE FAFSA IS FILLED OUT OVER YEAR AND IT OPENS OCTOBER FIRST SO OVER YEAR YOU'LL FILL IT ON OCTOBER FIRST.

>> AND THERE AN INCENTIVE TO FILL OUT THE FAFSA EARLIER AS OPPOSED TO LATER.

>> YEAH.

YOU'LL WANT TO FILL IT OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT'S FIRST COME FIRST SERVE AND ALSO YOUR STUDENT WILL BE SELECTED FOR VERIFICATION WHICH CAN TAKE SIX TO EIGHT WEEKS SO IT'S BETTER TO GET IT IN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND I SEE A QUESTION IN THE CHAT.

WHAT IF A CHILD DOES NOT HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

>> I'M GOING TO PASS THAT QUESTION TO MY ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR.

ACTUALLY THE STUDENT WILL APPLY FOR THE TASFA.

>> AND DO WE NEED TO SEND OUR FAFSA INFORMATION TO ALL THE COLLEGES WE'RE APPLYING TO.

>> WHEN YOU APPLY FOR YOUR FAFSA IT WILL GIVE YOU AN OPTION TO LIST ALL THE SCHOOLS YOU'RE APPLYING TO AND WHEN YOU SUBMIT YOUR FAFSA IT WILL SUBMIT ALL THE INFORMATION TO THE COLLEGES.

SO JUST PUT THE COLLEGES YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT JOINING TO AND THEY'LL GET THE INFORMATION FROM THE FAFSA.

>> ARE THERE ANY FACTORS OUTSIDE OF THE EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION THAT CAN FLUCTUATE MAYBE WHAT YOUR FINANCIAL AID WOULD BE MAYBE YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR TO YOUR SOPHOMORE YEAR?

>> YES, THERE IS.

>> I SEE ANOTHER -- JUST A COMMENT.

IF THERE IS ANOTHER BENEFIT OF DOING FAFSA EARLIER FOR SOME UNIVERSITIES?

>> SO -- ANOTHER QUESTION.

WHAT IS SOME DOCUMENT YOU WILL NEED TO QUALIFY AS HOMELESS [INAUDIBLE] CAN ANSWER THAT ONE.

>> YES, SURE.

JUST ASK THAT QUESTION ONE MORE TIME.

>> WHAT ARE SOME OF THE DOCUMENTATION YOU WOULD NEED TO QUALIFY AS HOMELESS OR ONE OF THE OTHER QUALIFYING SESSIONS TO STILL BE ABLE TO APPLY.

>> SO WHAT WOULD YOU NEED TO DO IS WORK WITH A HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR AND THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR OR SOCIAL WORKER WOULD BE ABLE TO FILL THAT OUT AND SEND IT TO THE SCHOOL FOR YOU.

GREAT QUESTION.

>> I SEE ANOTHER QUESTION.

WHAT IF PARENTS HAD A JOB BUT LOST IT DURING COVID AND THE INCOME TAX NUMBERS NO LONGER REPRESENT TRUE INCOME?

>> SO I CAN TAKE THIS ONE AS WELL.

SO HERE YOU'LL STILL PROVIDE THE 2019 TAXES.

SO EACH YEAR YOU'RE GOING TO USE TWO YEARS PRIOR.

SO EVEN IF THINGS HAVE CHANGED ESPECIALLY DUE TO COVID.

THAT'S GOING TO IMPACT A LOT OF PEOPLE THIS YEAR.

YOU'LL GO AHEAD AND SUBMIT THE FAFSA WITH WHAT YOU HAVE AND THEN YOU'LL CONTACT THE SCHOOL AND LET THEM KNOW YOU HAVE A SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCE AND THEY'LL BE ABLE TO MAKE AN ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR APPLICATION.

>> REMEMBER YOU CAN USE THE CHAT FEATURE TO PUT ANY QUESTIONS.

[00:35:02]

IT CAN BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE.

IT'S JUST UP TO WHATEVER QUESTIONS YOU ALL HAVE.

>> THERE IS ANOTHER QUESTION.

DO WE NEED TO SEND OUR FAFSA TO COLLEGES OR IS IT ALREADY FILED DURING THE FAFSA PROCESS.

IT WILL BE SENT DURING YOUR FAFSA PROCESS.

>> AND JUST TO ADD ON TO THAT.

ONCE YOU COMMIT YOUR FAFSA THE SCHOOL GETS WITHIN TWENTY-FOUR TO FORTY-EIGHT HOURS AND IF AT ANY TIME YOU NEED TO UPDATE IT OR ANY SCHOOLS THAT YOU WANTED TO LIST THE FIRST TIME AROUND YOU CAN GO BACK IN AND UPDATE IT AND SEND IT TO THE SCHOOL THAT YOU PREVIOUSLY APPLIED FOR OR SEND IT TO A NEW SCHOOL AS WELL.

>> ANOTHER QUESTION.

IF WHAT SCHOOLS ARE LOCKED DOWN, HOW CAN THEY REACH OUT TO SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES OR HOW DO THEY BEGIN.

>> SO RIGHT NOW EVEN THOSE SCHOOLS HAVE A LOT OF RESTRICTIONS OF COVID ON CAMPUS.

MOST OFFICES ARE OPEN.

AND SO EVEN IF WE WERE TO BE SHUT DOWN BETWEEN ALL UNIVERSITIES HAVE THEIR PHONE LINES OPEN AND THEY STILL HAVE THE CHAT FEATURE ON THEIR FINANCIAL AID WEBSITES SO YOU CAN CHAT WITH THEM AS WELL AND THEN THERE IS ALWAYS THE OPTION OF EMAIL.

THESE ARE SOME GREAT QUESTIONS.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS.

>> [INAUDIBLE] WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WEBSITE YOU WOULD RECOMMEND FOR SCHOLARSHIPS.

>> SO -- YOU CAN GO AHEAD.

>> I WOULD RECOMMEND SCHOLARSHIPS.COM IS PRETTY GOOD AND ALSO JUST CHECKING WITH THE COLLEGES SCHOLARSHIP WEBSITE.

THAT IS PROBABLY THE BEST OPTION TO START WITH.

ANOTHER QUESTION.

HOW ARE STUDENTS HANDLING.

>> THIS IS A GREAT QUESTION.

SO ORIENTATION HAS BEEN MOVED TO AN ONLINE PLATFORM FOR MOST INSTITUTIONS.

AGAIN, THAT MAY CHANGE OVER SUMMER TWENTY-ONE BUT A LOT OF SCHOOLS ARE OFFERING MODULES ONLINE AND THEY'RE HOSTING ONLINE SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS TO JOIN STUDENT ACTIVITIES SO THAT'S ALSO AN OPTION AS WELL.

>> ANOTHER QUESTION.

FOR FAMILIES THAT HAVE MULTIPLE STUDENTS GOING TO COLLEGE AT THE SAME TIME.

DOES THAT GO INTO CONSIDERATION AS FAR AS THE EXPECTED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION GOES SINCE MAYBE FAMILIES AREN'T ABLE TO AFFORD ALL STUDENTS GOING TO COLLEGE AT THE SAME TIME AT LEAST?

>> YES.

SO THAT IS ABSOLUTELY CALCULATED INTO THE FAFSA APPLICATION AND THE AWARD.

SO WHETHER IT'S YOU HAVE MULTIPLE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN COLLEGE AND ON THE FAFSA AND TASFA IT ASKS IF YOU HAVE ANY SIBLINGS OR ANY OTHER PEOPLE ATTENDING COLLEGE AND IT FACTORS THAT IN AND IT ASKS FOR HOW MANY PEOPLE.

>> IS THE FAFSA ONLY FOR FOUR YOUR UNIVERSITIES AND CAN PEOPLE APPLY FOR FAFSA IF IT'S A COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR A TWO-YEAR COLLEGE.

>> YES.

SO THE FAFSA IS OPENED FOR TWO YEAR AND FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS.

AT MOST CAMPUSES YOU'LL HAVE TO TAKE AT LEAST SIX CREDIT HOURS TO QUALIFY.

SO THAT MEANS AT LEAST TWO CLASSES AT MINIMUM.

OR YOU CAN TAKE MORE BUT THE MEDICINE UM IS AT LEAST TWO CLASSES.

>> SO THERE IS ANOTHER QUESTION.

ARE UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES PROVIDING ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LIMITED ASSISTANCE TO TECHNOLOGY.

HOW ARE BOOKS BEING BOUGHT.

I KNOW FOR TWU WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED A COMPUTER RENTAL SYSTEM.

IT WOULD JUST DEPEND ON THE COLLEGE I BELIEVE.

WITH THE BOOKS ALSO YOU BUY BOOKS FROM THE BOOKSTORE IF SOMEONE WANTS TO ELABORATE

[00:40:08]

ON THAT.

>> YEAH, I CAN.

IT DEFINITELY DEPENDS ON EACH INSTITUTION AND WHAT THEYƂĀ€Ā™RE DOING FOR TECHNOLOGY FOR STUDENTS, BUT THE TREND RIGHT NOW IS MORE INSTITUTION ARE PROVIDING WIFI AND ADDITIONAL RESOURCES ON CAMPUS AND NEW HOT SPOTS ON CAMPUS WHETHER THAT'S IN THE DORM ROOM OR IN THE PARKING LOT.

SO PEOPLE ARE GETTING CREATIVE AT THEIR INSTITUTIONS OR YOU CAN CHOOSE CHUG.COM SO YOU HAVE LOTS OF OPTIONS WHEN IT COMES TO BUYING YOUR BOOKS.

SO YOU CAN FIND THE OPTION THAT WORKS FOR YOU.

YOU CAN RENT THEM OR BUY THEM OUTRIGHT.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS IN THE CHAT BOX?

>> NO.

>> WELL, THAT PRETTY MUCH CONCLUDES OUR PRESENTATION.

>> WE HAVE ONE LAST QUESTION.

>> OH, SURE.

>> HOW ARE STUDENTS BEING ADVISED.

THEY WOULD JUST GO TO THE COLLEGE WEBSITE AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE ADVISOR AND THEY WILL PROBABLY MEET ON ZOOM AND GO OVER THE STUDENT PLAN FOR THE SEMESTER.

THAT WAS IT.

SO IF YOU HAVE ANY PERSONAL QUESTIONS OR NEED SOMEONE YOU TO WALK YOU THROUGH THE APPLICATION.

YOUR STUDENT CAN MAKE YOU AN APPOINTMENT WITH US AND YOU ALL ARE A PART OF OUR GO CENTER.

I'LL DROP THE LINK IF YOU WANT TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH US FROM ONE TO ONE THIRTY.

IF YOUR STUDENT WANT TO ADD THE PARENT TO THE APPOINTMENT.

THERE IS AN OPTION FOR THAT.

SO I WILL DROP THAT IN THE COMMENT ACHES.

AND YOU CAN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH US IF YOU EVER NEED ANY OTHER HELP.

AND THIS IS OUR CONTACT INFORMATION.

SIMONE DANIELS: >> THANK YOU GUYS SO MANY FOR HAVING US.

WE ARE WITH THE TEXAS WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY AND MY NAME IS SIMONE DANIELS AND AS YOU SAW ON THIS PICTURE THERE IS THIRTY-FOUR OF US.

SO IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT AND WE WILL BE HAPPY TO WALK THROUGH THE APPLICATION WITH YOU AND IF YOU NEED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH SCHOLAR SHIPS OR HELP GUIDING YOU WITH COLLEGE ESSAYS IS.

>> AND SIMONE CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT A G FORCE PROGRAM DOES AND WHAT YOU ALL CENTER YOUR WORK AROUND AND IF OTHER UNIVERSITIES HAVE G FORCES AS WELL.

SIMONE DANIELS: >> YES.

GREAT QUESTION.

SO OUR GO PROGRAM WE'RE PROVIDED A STATE GRANT WHICH ALLOWS US TO WORK WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND UNDERREPRESENTED POPULATIONS TO HELP YOU GUYS GET ACCESS TO EDUCATION.

SO IF YOUƂĀ€Ā™RE INTERESTED IN TWU WE CAN HELP YOU GET THERE.

WE CAN HELP WITH SAT AND ACT REGISTRATION AND REALLY ANYTHING COLLEGE READINESS IS WHAT WE FOCUS ON AND IT IS A MENTORSHIP PROGRAM SO THAT'S WHERE WE HAVE

[00:45:05]

THIRTY-FOUR COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO WORK WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOLERS TO HELP YOU AND THEN FOR THOSE WHO COME TO TEXAS WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY WE ALSO PROVIDE ONGOING ASSISTANCE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS AS WELL.

>> WELL, ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH.

YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT DAY.

>> OKAY.

SO NEXT IN OUR PROGRAM WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN INDUSTRY PANEL AND WE'RE GOING TO GET THE SCREEN SHARE.

SO JUST BEAR WITH US WHILE WE GET THAT ON HERE.

.

>> WE CAN HEAR YOU.

YOU CAN GO AHEAD HAD AND START YOUR PRESENTATION.

LOLIN CRANE: >> THAT SOUNDS GOOD.

MY NAME IS LOLIN AND I'M VERY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO TALK TO YOU TODAY ABOUT CHOOSING A MAJOR AND CHOOSING A CAREER AND SOME OF THE STEPS AND SOME OF THE THINGS YOU CAN THINK ABOUT WHILE YOU'RE THINK BEING THOSE.

I'M GOING TO SHARE A PRESENTATION THAT WE SHARE WITH OUR INCOMING FRESHMAN AND WE LIKE TO TAKE THEM THROUGH A JOURNEY AND GET THEM THINKING ABOUT WHAT THEY NEED TO BE DOING WHAT THEY THINK BEING A CAREER AND I HOPE YOU WILL FIND THIS HELPFUL AND GET YOU THINKING ABOUT THE STEPS THAW CAN TAKE RIGHT NOW.

ALL RIGHT.

SO CAREER DEVELOPMENT.

SO WHEN YOU'RE THINK BEING CHOOSING A PAGE WE USUALLY LIKE TO START WITH A DEFINITION OF WHAT CAREER DEVELOPMENT IS AND HOW THAT CONNECTS OVER TO YOUR PAGE AND JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE AND THERE IS HUNDREDS OF DIFFERENT WAYS TO DEFINE CAREER DEVELOPMENT BUT I LIKE THIS PARTICULAR DEFINITION BECAUSE IT STATE THAT'S CAREER DEVELOPMENT IS AN GOING PROCESS OF REVIEW, DISCOVERY, DECIDING, AND ACTION.

AND I THINK THE KEY WORD IS ONGOING.

BECAUSE THIS IS ISN'T SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE JUST GOING TO THINK ABOUT AND YOU'RE DONE.

THAT'S NOT THE WAY THAT IT WORKS AN HOPEFULLY IN YOUR CAREER JOURNEY AND YOUR COLLEGE JOURNEY YOU'LL BE USING THIS -- I SO I THINK AS WE GO THROUGH OUR LIVES AND WE HAVE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES WE CAN GO THROUGH THE PROCESS OF OPTIONS AN MAKING DISCOVERY ABOUT OURSELF AND MAKING DECISIONS AND THEN WE TAKE ACTION BASED ON THOSE NEW DISCOVERIES.

SO THIS IS SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT WITH REGARD TO CAREER AND CAREER DISCOVERIES.

WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT CHOOSING A IMAGINE YOU MIGHT SETTLE ON A MAJOR AND THEN YOU MIGHT CHANGE THE DIRECT AFTER -- AND STUDENTS CAN CHANGE THEIR MAJORS EARLY ON BECAUSE THEYƂĀ€Ā™RE NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THEIR MAJOR.

THESE ARE NORMAL EXPERIENCES FOR ANYONE GOING THROUGH THESE COLLEGE EXPERIENCES.

AND I THINK I WANT TO EMPHASIZE THAT FOR A LOT OF STUDENTS TRY TO GO COME INTO A COLLEGE EXPERIENCE TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT THEIR CAREER WILL BE.

[00:50:08]

AT THE SAME TIME THAT YOU'VE CHOSEN A CAREER PATH AND EVEN AFTER GRADUATION POTENTIALLY YOU MAY CHANGE YOUR PATH OR THE DIRECTION THAT YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE IN YOUR CAREER AND THIS IS BECAUSE THINGS HAPPEN AND YOU HAVE NO DISCOVERIES AND THINGS CHANGES IN YOUR LIFE.

SO, AGAIN, THIS ONGOING JOURNEY IN YOUR PROFESSIONAL LIFE.

OKAY.

SO WHY HAVE A PLAN.

YOU KNOW, THE REASON I THINK IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO HAVE A CAREER PLAN AND START REALLY THINKING ABOUT THOSE THINGS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE IS THAT HAVING A PLAN AND HAVING SOME STEPS IN MIND IS GOING TO HAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO GO DO AND HOW YOUƂĀ€Ā™RE GOING TO DO YOUR CAREER PLANNING ONCE YOU'VE SELECTED THE COLLEGE TRACT.

I LIKE TO FOCUS ABOUT THIS AREA OF FIT AND WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT FIT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CHOICES OF JOBS AND CAREERS THAT FEEL RIGHT FOR YOU AND EVERYONE IS GOING TO HAVE THEIR OWN PERSONAL FIT.

WHAT IS MY CAREER PATH AND HOW DOES THAT FIT WITH WHO I AM AND WHAT I WANT OUT OF LIVE.

SO FIT BECOMES REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT IN THE DISCUSSIONS OF CAREER.

WE WANT STUDENTS TO CONFIDENTLY REACH THEIR GOAL AND WE FEEL LIKE THE CHOICES THAT YOU'RE MAKING ONLINE AND YOU'RE GOING TO BE MORE CONFIDENT AND YOU'RE GOING TO TAKE BETTER STEPS TO GET YOU WHERE YOU WANT TO GO AND I ALSO THINK AND WE'VE SEEN THIS AND WE SEE THIS IN A LOT OF STUDENTS IF STUDENTS ARE ON THE TRACK OF SOMETHING THAT THEY REALLY ENJOY AND IT REALLY BEGINS TO MOTIVATE THEM AND THEY'RE WILLING TO OVERCOME A LOT OF OBSTACLES IF THEY HAVE THAT END IN MIND THAT I KNOW IF I CAN GET THROUGH THIS ONE CLASS I WILL REACH MY GOAL.

SO SETTING UP PLANS AND GOALS WITH THAT END IN MIND BECOMES REALLY IMPORTANT.

OF COURSE CHOOSING A CLEAR WILL IMPACT YOUR MENTAL AND PHYSICAL BEING.

SO CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT YOU GET UP EVERY DAY AND GO TO A JOB THAT YOU DON'T ENJOY OR THAT'S NOT A GOOD FIT FOR YOU THAT'S GOING TO IMPACT YOUR PHYSICAL BEING.

BECAUSE IF YOU'RE NOT ENJOYING WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND YOU FEEL IT'S NOT A GOOD FOR YOU.

SO FIT, AGAIN, REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT AND IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT YOU PROBABLY HAVE SOME CLASSES RIGHT NOW THAT YOU REALLY ENJOY AND YOU PROBABLY HAVE CLASSES AND WORK THAT YOU DON'T ENJOY AND THESE ARE TOPICS THAT EITHER FIT WELL WITH YOU OR DON'T.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HE WITH WANT TO SUGGEST ALSO EVEN IN COLLEGE WHEN WE ARE TALKING WITH STUDENTS IS START MAKING A MENTAL NOTE OF THOSE THINGS.

START JOURNALING AND THINK ABOUT THE THINGS THAT I'M REALLY DRAWN TO AND YOU GENERAL JOY OR THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO BE TOUGH YOUR YOU WILL STRUGGLE WITH.

SO THAT'S WHY WE THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO MAKE A PLANNED AND THINK ABOUT A CAREER EARLY ON AND YOU'LL BE CHANGING THAT PLAN BUT HAVING A GOAL AND PLAN CAN WE REALLY HELPFUL.

SO HOW DO YOU MAKE A PLAN.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE SHARE, AND, AGAIN, TO A LOT OF FRESHMAN THAT COME IN AND TRANSITION STUDENTS THAT AREN'T SURE ABOUT THEIR CAREER YET WE HAVE A CAREER DEVELOPMENT JOURNEY IS WHAT IT'S CALLED AND THIS IS A PROCESS THAT YOU CAN THINK ABOUT IN YOUR CAREER PLANNING SO YOU'LL NOTICE HERE YOU'LL SEE THE ARROWS HERE TO REMIND YOU THAT IT IS AN ONGOING PROCESS.

FOR MOST OF YOU YOU'LL GO THROUGH THIS CYCLE OVER AND OVER AGAIN THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER JOURNEY AND IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO KNOW YOURSELF BUT THE SELF-DISCOVERY AND THE SELF-EXPLORATION IS REALLY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO GO DO AND WHAT, KIND OF, CAREER YOU WANT TO GO HAVE OR BE INVOLVED IN OR SELECT.

OF COURSE, YOU'LL WANT TO EXPLORE YOUR OPTIONS.

YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW WHAT'S OUT THERE AND YOU NEED TO KNOW YOU WHAT CAN DO WITH DIFFERENT MAJORS AND THEN YOU START TO NARROW DOWN [INAUDIBLE] TOWARDS THAT JOB

[00:55:03]

OR CAREER AND THEN YOU CAN TAKE ACTIONS.

AS AN ANALOGY IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE WORK YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW OR THINKING ABOUT WHAT COLLEGE YOU WANT TO ATTEND YOU WILL GO THROUGH THESE STEPS.

SO I WOULD THINK MOST OF YOU HAVE THOUGHT OF MORE THAN ONE COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY TO GO TO AND WHEN YOUƂĀ€Ā™RE TRYING TO DECIDE ON THAT ONE OF THE THINGS YOU'LL PROBABLY IS -- WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR IN A COLLEGE EXPERIENCE WHAT'S IMPORTANT FOR ME WHEN PICKING A COLLEGE AND WHY.

A LOT OF THINGS COME INTO PLAY AND SO IF I'M GOING TO CHOOSE A COLLEGE I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT WHAT MAJORS THEY HAVE.

COST.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABILITY.

WHAT ABOUT THE FACULTY DOES THAT MATTER TO.

WHAT ABOUT THE CAMPUS LIFE OR THE CULTURE.

SO YOU'RE REALLY STARTING TO THINK ABOUT WHAT DOES THAT EXPERIENCE MEAN FOR ME AND WHAT DO I NEED OUT OF THAT EXPERIENCE.

SO YOU START THINK BEING EXPLORING AND YOU PROBABLY LOOK AT WEBSITES AND YOU'LL PROBABLY TALK WITH PROFESSORS AND IF YOU GO ON A TOUR OF THAT CAMPUS AND START EXPLORING AND START DECIDING IF THAT'S THE EXPERIENCE THAT YOU WANT.

SO YOU'RE COMING TO MAYBE JUST A COUPLE OF UNIVERSITIES AND THEN YOU START TO MAKE A PLAN AROUND THAT.

YOU START TO FIGURE OUT WHAT CRITERIA AM I ELIGIBLE FOR AND MAYBE I'M DOWN TO TWO OR THREE APPLICATIONS AND THEY'RE ALL GOING TO HAVE DIFFERENT DEADLINES THAT YOU'RE GOING TO GO PLAN OUT FOR AND THEN YOU'RE GOING TO START SUBMITTING ALL OF YOUR PAPERWORK.

YOU HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT HOUSING IF YOU'RE GOING TO LIVE ON CAMPUS AND WHEN YOU GET TO CAMPUS YOU'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO LEARN THINGS ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOU'RE GOING TO START THE CYCLE ALL OVER AGAIN AND THIS IS SIMILAR TO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU'RE EXPERIENCING AN AGAIN THE CYCLE PIECE OF THIS AND AS YOU LEARN MORE ABOUT YOURSELF IN THAT COLLEGE EXPERIENCE THAT YOU UPDATE YOUR PLAN.

I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS.

THE KNOW YOURSELF.

WHEN IT COMES TO CAREER PLANNING CHOOSING MAJORS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THING THAT YOU CAN DO IS TO REALLY LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF.

IT'S ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT STEPS AND IT PROBABLY SOUNDS A LOT BIGGER HARDER THAN IT IS.

WE HAVE SEVERAL HERE THAT ON THIS SLIDE BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT DOING SOME DEEP REFLECTION AND MY KIDS EVERY TIME I SAY THAT THEY ROLL THEIR EYES.

SEE THINK ABOUT YOUR INTERESTS, YOUR SKILLS, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO, YOU KNOW THAT INVENTORY.

IT'S GOING TO BE IMPORTANT FOR YOU TO MATCH THAT UP WITH THE KINDS OF MAJORS THAT YOU WANT TO CHOOSE OR THE KINDS OF CAREERS THAT YOU MIGHT WANT.

AND I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE DEPENDS ON THE CRITERIA, RIGHT, THERE IS A LOT THE STUDENT THAT'S WE TALK TO AND THEY SAY I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO LEAD TO A HIGH PAYING JOB.

UNDERSTAND THAT IF THAT IS A CRITERIA AND THIS IS NOT A BAD GOAL, BUT THE QUESTION IS THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING IS THAT GOING TO BE SUSTAINABLE FOR YOU.

YOU MIGHT BE MAKING A LOT OF MONEY BUT YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE INTEREST IN IT AND THAT'S NOT GOING TO BE HELPFUL -- IT'S REALLY HARD TO STAY MOTIVATED IN A MAJOR OR IN A CAREER FOR THAT MATTER THAT'S NOT IN LINE WITH SOME OF THOSE VALUES OR MOTIVATIONAL FIT THAT WE TALK ABOUT.

AGAIN, ASKING YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR SKILLS WHAT ARE YOU GOOD AT.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE AN ARCHITECT YOU'RE MAJOR.

DO YOU HAVE ARTISTIC THINGS ALREADY.

DO YOU DRAW.

HAVE BEEN BUILDING THING IN THE PAST.

IF YOU'RE AN ACCOUNTING MAJOR AND YOU'RE NOT GOOD AT MATH, THAT MIGHT BE A PROBLEM.

IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU CAN'T GO INTO THAT MAJOR IT JUST MEANS THAT IT MIGHT BE MORE WORK FOR YOU AND IT MAY BE A LITTLE DIFFICULT IN THE CLASSES PERHAPS.

BUT YOU CERTAINLY CAN DO IT BUT IT JUST MIGHT NOT BE AS MOTIVATING.

[01:00:05]

SO AGAIN I HAVE ALL THESE QUESTIONS HERE AND ALL THESE THINGS YOU WANT TO ASK YOURSELF WHEN YOU'RE FIGURING OUT YOUR MAJOR OR YOUR CAREER AND WHAT'S THE BEST FIT FOR ME.

SO WE DO TALK ABOUT THESE WITH INCOMING FRESHMAN -- WHAT IS IT THAT I VALUE AND THAT I WANT TO HAVE A CAREER BUILT AROUND.

SO FOR EXAMPLE A LOT OF STUDENTS TALK ABOUT THEY WANT TO BE ABLE TO TRAVEL.

BUT THAT'S GOING TO BE REALLY IMPORTANT FOR THEM.

OTHER STUDENTS TALK ABOUT JOB SECURITY AND I WANT TO BE IN A PLACE WHERE THERE IS MORE JOB SECURITY THAN NOT.

OR MAYBE I LIKE LEADERSHIP AND I'M REALLY INTERESTED IN LEADERSHIP ROLES SO WHAT MIGHT BE CAREER FITS AND MAJORS THAT MIGHT BE ME MORE OR LITTLE BIT OF THAT OPPORTUNITY.

SO THERE MIGHT BE INDIVIDUALS WHO LIKE TO WORK ON TEAMS. SO IT'S, KIND OF, IDENTIFYING SKILLS AND VALUES AND THEN HOW THAT TIES TOGETHER WITH YOUR MAJOR.

LET'S SEE.

OH, I WROTE A NOTE HERE.

SPOILER ALERT THAT EVERY DAY IS NOT GOING TO BE AWESOME EVEN IF YOU HAVE THE BEST FIT.

IT'S NOT NECESSARILY ALWAYS GOING TO BE PERFECT BUT THE MORE THOSE MOTIVATIONAL FIT THINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT AND THE MORE YOUR VALUE SYSTEM MEET AND THE KINDS OF CAREERS AND JOBS THAT YOU HAVE IT'S GOING TO BE -- SO THIS WAS THE OVERVIEW OF THE CAREER DEVELOPMENT CYCLE AND THERE IS A LOT OF NEAT WAYS TO START THINKING ABOUT HOW DO I FIGURE OUT MY MOTIVATIONAL FIT AND HOW DO I FIGURE OUT WHAT I'M GOOD AT.

ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU COME TO CAMPUS OR AN INSTITUTION THERE MIGHT BE SOME EXTRA CLUBS OR THERE MIGHT BE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCES OR THERE MIGHT BE ON CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT THAT YOU'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN AND THAT'S GOING TO CONTINUE THAT SICKLE AND YOU'RE GOING TO GO CONTINUE TO SELF-DISCOVER WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT I LIKE AND WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT I LIKE TO DO AND I BIG PIECE TO KEEP IN MIND IS WHAT DO YOU LOVE AND ANOTHER THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS -- THAT BACKS A FACET TO STAY WITH MAJORS OR CHANGE MAJORS AND THEN POTENTIALLY FIND A CAREER AND JOBS AFTER.

THIS CREATES WHAT I LIKE TO CALL, KIND OF, AN INTERNAL MEASUREMENT SCALE THAT YOU, KIND OF, CARRY AROUND WITH YOU.

AND AGAIN, IF YOU CAN START TO DO THAT NOW, YOU'LL HAVE THIS HUGE INVENTORY OF THINGS THAT, WOW, THIS IS THE KIND OF STUFF THAT I WANT TO DO AND I'M REALLY GOOD AT IT AND LET ME FIND SOME MAJOR CAREERS OR CLASSES THAT WILL HELP ME ELEVATE THAT OR SHARE THAT.

AGAIN JUST BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A FIT FOR SOMETHING IT JUST MEANS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE MORE TROUBLE WITH IT.

SELF-REFLECTION I JUST ADDED SOME EXTRA QUESTIONS HERE AROUND THINGS THAT YOU WANT TO START DOING IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY AND MANY OF YOU HAVE GONE THROUGH THESE BUT DO YOU HAVE CAREER ASPIRATIONS.

DO YOU HAVE A CAREER VISION FOR YOURSELF.

HAVE YOU SET THAT YET.

YOU MAY ALREADY BE THINKING ABOUT PEER OPTIONS.

SO AND WHAT KINDS OF THINGS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT A CAREER JOB THAT YOU WITH LIKE TO HAVE AND I GO BACK TO THESE CORE VALUES.

WHAT ARE THE KINDS OF THINGS THAT COMPANY OR THAT JOB OR THAT ROLE WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU.

AND THERE IS LOTS OF HELP FOR ALL OF THIS BUT THESE ARE JUST SOME INITIAL QUESTIONS THAT YOU WANT TO THINK ABOUT.

COACHING ONE ZERO ONE.

WE HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE CENTER WITH STUDENTS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

VARIOUS LEVELS GRADUATE STUDENTS ALL THE WAY TO FRESHMAN TRANSFER STUDENTS.

SO IF A STUDENT IS TRYING TO IDENTIFY A CAREER IS REALLY ABOUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS RIGHT NOW OR WHEN YOU BEGIN YOUR COLLEGE CAREER.

I HAVE THREE OF MY OWN AND WE HAVE THESE CONVERSATIONS ALL THE TIME.

THE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE THAT MY KIDS WERE FEELING AS SENIORS AND JUNIORS WAS BEYOND.

MY HEART-FELT FOR THEM BECAUSE THEY WOULD JUST TALK TO ME ABOUT HOW THEY FELT LIKE THEY HAD TO HAVE EVERYTHING IN PLACE AND EVERYTHING READY AND MY CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM WERE ABOUT IT'S OKAY.

BREATHE.

[01:05:01]

IT'S GOING TO BE OKAY AND THERE IS SO MUCH PRESSURE RIGHT NOW TO TRYING TO GET KIDS TO IDENTIFY.

IT CAN CHANGE AND THERE ARE GOING TO BE DIFFERENT PEOPLE BUT DON'T HAVE TO HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS RIGHT NOW.

SOME CAREERS ARE GOING TO BE LINEAR YOU WILL HAVE I'M GOING TO BE A NURSE.

YEAH YOU CAN STILL CHOOSE WHERE YOU'RE GOING TO GO PRACTICE.

SAME WITH EDUCATION.

I WANT TO BE A TEACHER.

START EARLY, START THINKING ABOUT CAREER DEVELOPMENT AS SOON AS YOU GRADUATE.

IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO GO TO AN INSTITUTION AND EVEN NOW, THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE DOING, YOU'RE STARTING THIS CONVERSATION.

WE HAVE CONVERSATIONS THAT COME TO US IN THEIR SENIOR YEAR AND THEY JUST STARTED THINKING ABOUT ALL OF THESE KINDS OF QUESTION AND WE -- I CAN'T DO THAT.

DO NOT LIKE THIS MAJOR.

I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THAT.

SO OF COURSE WE'RE GOING TO HELP AND EVERY INSTITUTION WILL HAVE SERVICES TO HELP YOU IN THAT DISCUSSION, BUT IF YOU CAN START THOSE CONVERSATIONS EARLY, IT'S GOING TO BE MORE HELPFUL.

YOUR DECISION YOUR CAREER.

YOU HAVE TO BE AUTHENTIC AND HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND WE HAVE A LOT OF CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS AND THEY'RE BEING IMPLEMENTED BY STUDENTS OR PEERS OR SIGNIFICANT OTHERS AND THAT CAN BECOME A CHALLENGE.

I DO ADVISE ANYONE TALKING TO US TO TAKE A MOMENT AND REALLY BEGIN THINKING ABOUT AUTHENTICALLY WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT YOU WANT TO DO.

TRUST THE PROCESS OF DISCOVERY.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW YET, IT'S OKAY BUT HAVE A PLAN LIKE WE DISCUSSED THOSE FOUR STEPS CAN BE A POWERFUL PLAN TO JUST KEEP YOU MOVING.

THE PERFECT CAREER IS NOT GOING TO COME TO YOU.

IT TAKES TIME AND IT'S A JOURNEY.

IF IT DOES, THAT IS AWESOME.

TYPICALLY THAT'S NOT THE CASE.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES.

IF YOU CAN.

THIS DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH TIME YOU HAVE.

BUT OTHER YOU GO THROUGH OR WILL GO THROUGH TAKE ADVANTAGE ON A CAMPUS LICK CLUBS OR ORGANIZATIONS OR LEADING TEAMS THOSE ARE ALL SKILLS TO HELP DEVELOP WHO YOU ARE AND IT HELPS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT YOU LIKE AND DON'T LIKE.

YES YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR MAJOR.

I SAY THAT BUT I DON'T THINK YOU SHOULD CHANGE IT EVERY YEAR THAT'S NOT A GOOD HABIT.

BUT IF YOU START HAVING THESE CONVERSATION AND REFLECTIONS EARLY YOU WILL KNOW THAT I NEED TO CHANGE MY MAJOR NOW AND IT WON'T BE THAT JUNIOR OR SENIOR WHO JUST HAVE TO GRADUATE WITH THAT MAJOR AND THEN WE HAVE TO HAVE A DIFFERENT PLAN WHEN WORKING WITH THEM BUT IT'S EASIER IF YOU WITH START TO FIGURE THAT OUT.

THINGS MAY HAPPEN YOU GO IN YOU THINK YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO GO DO.

THINGS HAPPEN, THAT WHOLE CYCLE THAT'S A SO A LITTLE BIT OF REITERATING.

EVERYONE WANTS TO HELP.

WHATEVER COLLEGE OR INSTITUTION YOU DECIDE TO GO TO THERE ARE RESOURCES AVAILABLE.

I'M AN ALUMNI OF UTA AND THE AMOUNT OF HELP AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS PLEASE IDENTIFY WHAT THOSE ARE.

TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE.

THEY ARE THERE FOR YOU AND YOU DESERVE THOSE SERVICES.

A COUPLE OF TIPS.

THE FIRST ONE ALWAYS STAY CONNECTED TO YOUR ADVISOR.

THEY ARE THERE TO HELP.

THIS IS THEIR JOB AND THIS IS MY JOB AND THAT'S TO REALLY HELP STUDENTS TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND HELP THEM THINK ABOUT THEIR CAREERS AND MAKE CHANGES SO I THINK GO OFTEN IS MY TIP FOR THAT.

SOME OF THE THINGS LISTED HERE ON THIS PARTICULAR SLIDE ARE NOT GOING TO BE DIFFERENT THAN OTHER INSTITUTIONS BUT AT UTA SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE REALLY HELP STUDENTS IS ONE OF THE THINGS IS STUDENT EMPLOYMENT I WOULD PUT THIS ON THE LIST IF YOU CAN.

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU TO WORK ON CAMPUS IN A ROLE

[01:10:01]

THAT IS ON CAMPUS.

WE HAVE SEEN A -- IT IS A SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT RETENTION RATE FOR STUDENTS AND COMPLETION RATE.

IT IS THERE AND IT IS AVAILABLE FOR YOU.

TYPICALLY EASY FOR TO YOU FIND BUT THERE ARE LOTS ON CAMPUS.

WE DO LOT OF THINGS LIKE MOCK INTERVIEW.

WE DO JOB FAIRS WE DO INTERNSHIP JOB FAIRS AS WELL.

WE DO RESUME COVER LETTERS AND EMPLOYERS AND WE BRING EMPLOYERS TO CAMPUS EVERY OTHER WEEK WELL, VIRTUALLY NOW.

WE BRING EMPLOYERS TO JUST HAVE CONVERSATIONS AND PANELS WITH STUDENTS.

SO THE CAREER CENTER OR CAREER GUIDANCE OR WHOEVER IS TAKING UP THAT TORCH.

THEY'RE ROLE IS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE CONNECTED WITH EMPLOYERS IN THE COMMUNITY.

SO CHECKING WITH THE CAREER CENTER TO FIND OUT WHAT OPPORTUNITY ARE THERE.

A LOT OF WORK THAT WE DO IS ONE ON ONE-POINT APPOINTMENT WAS STUDENTS AND WE HAVE THOSE BACK-TO-BACK TO BACK AND WE MAKE SURE SOME OF THE WORK ALSO THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US THIS PAST SEMESTER AND I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IS A LOT OF TIMES STUDENTS GET INTO A MAJOR AND THEY -- IT'S INTERESTING AND MY CHILDREN WERE THE SAME WAY IF I GET THIS MAJOR I CAN HAVE THIS ONE JOB.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO ENGAGE WITH STUDENTS AND HELP THEM UNDERSTAND IS WHATEVER MAJOR YOU CHOOSE THERE ARE PROBABLY MULTIPLE CAREER JOBS AND OPPORTUNITIES THAT YOU CAN ENGAGE WITH AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE ROLLING OUT THE NEXT SEMESTER ARE TOOL KITS AND ACADEMIC ADVISORS.

SO IF YOU'RE GOING TO SOCIAL WORK THERE IS A LOT MORE.

EDUCATION AND SCHOOL.

MAKE THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT TO GO DO.

YOU CAN GO INTO FOSTER CARE OR EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY GROUPS AND YOU CAN HAVE PRIVATE CLINICS AND YOU CAN HAVE SUBSTANCE ABUSE -- POLICE AND VICTIM SERVICES.

SO WE'RE TRYING TO HELP STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS.

LET'S MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW ABOUT ALL OF THE DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT CAN YOU HAVE IN EITHER ONE OF THE DIFFERENT CAREER PATHS THAT YOU CAN TAKE.

WE HAVE HERE ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ANTHROPOLOGY AND I HAVE A STUDENT WHO SAYS WE WERE JUST CHATTING ABOUT THAT IT WASN'T ANTHROPOLOGY AND I CAN'T TALK TO MY PARENTS ABOUT THIS AND I -- AND HE SAID WELL, FRANKLY I WASN'T SURE EITHER THAT'S WHY I'M HERE.

SO, AGAIN, TRYING TO HELP STUDENTS UNDERSTAND.

SO I LOVE THE WORK I LOVE THE CLASSES BUT I'M JUST NOT SURE WHAT I'M GOING TO DO IT AND THAT'S A PERFECTLY VALID QUESTION BUT THANK GOODNESS HE RAISED HIS HANDS AND THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF BACHELOR OF CART ARTS IN ANTHROPOLOGY.

SO ANY WAY WE HAVE MAPPED EVERY SINGLE MAJOR TO A LIST OF THESE, KIND OF, CAREER PATHS AND GOALS AND WE'RE EXCITED TO HELP BROADEN THE PERSPECTIVE FOR STUDENTS AND THAT CAN BE HARD.

WE'RE HOPING THAT CONVERSATIONS LIKE THIS WILL HELP.

THIS IS A HARD ONE TO SEE I JUST PULLED A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION AND THIS IS UTA SPECIFIC AND THIS IS WHERE WE POST ALL OF OUR INTERNSHIPS AND OUR JOBS AND YOU CAN SEE RIGHT NOW TOP TEN INDUSTRIES WITH THE MOST ACTIVE JOBS IN THE UTA POSTING PLATFORM AROUND INTERNSHIP SOFTWARE EDUCATION HEALTHCARE MANUFACTURING AN NON-PROFIT AND CAN YOU SEE DOWN THE ROAD MAKES SENSE RIGHT NOW, KIND OF, WHERE WE'RE AT RIGHT NOW WITH COVID.

AND YOU'RE SEEING INTERNET AND SOFTWARE IS A HIGH ONE REGARDLESS AND YOU CAN SEE ALL THE WAY DOWN THOSE ARE THE TOP INDUSTRIES.

I PULLED LIKE THE TOP FIFTY TAKEN EMPLOYERS THAT ARE POSTING RIGHT NOW JUST TO GET AN INDUSTRY.

WE GOT CONSTRUCTION -- RETAIL STORES AS WELL.

[01:15:01]

HEALTHCARE TRANSPORTATION AND LOGISTICS.

SO I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A I SNAP SHOT.

AGAIN, ALL INSTITUTIONS THAT YOU GO TO WILL HAVE THIS TYPE OF INFORMATION AVAILABLE THROUGH WHATEVER PLATFORM SYSTEM THAT YOU HAVE.

OUR UTA TAKE YEAR TO YEAR INDUSTRY GROWTH.

SO I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE SNIPPET ON THAT.

AND HONESTLY, YOU KNOW, I GUESS I JUST WANT TO SHARE THAT IS YOUR JOURNEY START EARLY.

ASK FOR HELP.

FIND A MENTOR IF YOU CAN.

LEARN AND DEVELOP SKILLS HAVE A PLAN AND BE READY TO CHANGE THAT PLAN.

FLEXIBILITY CAN BE IMPORTANT TO.

WITH THAT I HOPE SOME OF THIS INFORMATION WAS HELPFUL AND MAYBE GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT WHEN CHOOSING A CAREER PATH.

AND I TELL MY KIDS ALL THE TIME.

YOU'VE GOT THIS.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE.

YOU'VE GOT TO NETWORK.

THERE ARE PEOPLE LIKE I SAID WE'RE HER TO HELP AND SUPPORT AND ENGAGE AND WE'RE HERE PURPOSELY TO UNLEASH THE POTENTIAL THAT'S HIDDEN INSIDE.

THANK YOU.

LESLIE: >> HELLO, EVERYBODY.

THIS IS LESLIE SPEAKING AND I WORK IN THE OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENT NEAVE AND UP NEXT WE HAVE OUR HIGH DEMAND CAREER PANEL AND WE WILL HAVE TWO GUESTS MS. LOLIN MARTINS CRANE -- SHE'S AN ALUMNUS FROM UTA AND RECEIVED HER MASTER'S IN INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATIONAL -- SHE BRINGS OVER TWENTY YEARS OF BUSINESS EXPERIENCE IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES TO INCLUDE TELL COMMUNICATIONS HEALTHCARE TRAVEL AND SUPPLY CHAIN [INAUDIBLE].

SHE HAS JUST STARTED HER FIFTH YEAR WITH UTA AND LOLIN STRIVE DAILY TO ENSURE CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND -- AND ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES ALL FOCUSED ON PROVIDING CUTTING EDGE CAREER DEVELOPMENT.

OUR SECOND PANELIST IS OFFICER TORI ROHN.

THE OFFICE IS A -- IN THE CITY OF MESQUITE TEXAS AND ALONG WITH EMPOWERING YOUTH ALONG WITH YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS -- AND HOSTAGE NEGOTIATOR.

OFFICER ROHN HELD STEADFAST TO HIS ACADEMIC VALUES THAT WERE ENGRAINED BY HIS MENTOR.

HE OBTAINED A SCHOLARSHIP TO FISK UNIVERSITY AND AFTER JOINING KAPPA ALPHA SI FRATERNITY HE HAS MOVED TO MESQUITE.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO OUR PANELIST WHO ARE FREE TO BEGIN WHENEVER THEIR READY.

LESLIE: >> I WANT TO GO AND ASK LOLIN WHAT GUIDED YOU IN DECIDING WHAT YOU WANTED TO STUDY WHEN YOU WERE GOING TO COLLEGE.

I THINK YOU'RE MUTED.

LOLIN: >> BETTER? OKAY NOW?

[01:20:02]

LESLIE: >> YES.

LOLIN: >> OKAY.

GOOD.

I THINK CONSCIOUSLY OR SUBCONSCIOUSLY I STARTED MAKING THAT MENTAL LIST WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL.

I KNEW EARLY ON THAT THE IMAGINE WAS NOT SOMETHING THAT I EXCEL IN.

I HAD A BUNCH OF TUTORING AND THERE WERE THINGS THAT GUIDED ME TO TRYING TO MAKE MYSELF BETTER NOW AND I NOW THERE WEREN'T THINGS THAT I WAS SUPPER GOOD ADD.

AND WHAT I DID KNOW IS THAT I ENJOYED TALKING ABOUT OTHERS.

I LIKED CONSULTING AND COUNSELING OTHER FOLKS MY PEERS.

I GRAVITATED CONVERSATIONS.

I REALLY STARTED TO ENJOY PSYCHOLOGY.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE CLASSES THAT I HAD THAT I SPENT EXTRA TIME ON AND I DID EXTRA WORK FOR AND I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE SOMETHING IN PSYCHOLOGY THAT WAS HONING ME INTO THAT SPACE.

SO I THIS I WHAT I LIKED WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE AND STARTING TO DO SOME OF THE THAT MENTAL MAPPING EARLY ON HELPED ME TO MAKE A DECISION OF MY FIRST STEP OF WHAT MAJOR I WANTED TO GO INTO.

WHEN I WENT INTO PSYCHOLOGY I HAD NO INCLUDE WHAT I WAS GOING TO GO DO WITH IT BUT I THINK A LOT OF EXPERIENCES IN MY HIGH SCHOOL AND MY PERSONAL LIFE HELPED TO GUIDE ME THERE.

LESLIE: >> OFFICER ROHN I'LL PROVIDE YOU THE SAME QUESTION.

WHAT HELPED YOU DECIDE WHAT FIELD YOU WANTED TO GO INTO?

OFFICER ROHN: >> THAT'S A COMPLICATED QUESTION BECAUSE WHEN I FIRST GOT TO SCHOOL I HAD EVERY INTENTION OF GOING INTO THE MEDICAL PROFESSION.

MY FIRST MAJOR AT FISK UNIVERSITY I WAS A PREMED MAJOR AND DURING THE COURSE OF THINGS HAPPENING IN MY LIFETIME AND THE EXPERIENCES AND THE LOSS OF FRIENDS LIFE HAS A TENDENCY TO THROUGH YOU CURVE BALLS AND WE ARE STEADFAST AND TRYING TO ADJUST ON THE FLY AND WHEN THINGS LIKE THAT HAPPEN I, KIND OF, -- MY EXPERIENCE LED ME TO GO TO A DIFFERENT PATH IF THAT MAKES SENSE.

SO I QUICKLY TRANSITION FROM A CHEMISTRY OF PREMED FIELD AND I'M STILL A LOVER OF SCIENCE AND I TRANSFERS THAT INTO THE LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE FIELD BECAUSE DURING THE COURSE OF ANY COLLEGE THINGS HAPPENED AND THOSE THINGS AFFECTED ME TO A CERTAIN EXTENT OF THOSE THINGS THAT HAPPENED TO ME.

AND I'M TRYING TO MAKE SURE THOSE PARTICULAR THINGS DON'T HAPPEN TO THE NEXT PERSON AND THAT'S WHAT GUIDED ME TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE ASPECT OF MY DEGREE.

>> AND LOLIN WHAT RECOMMENDATIONS DO YOU HAVE FOR STUDENTS NOW OR IN COLLEGE FOR THEM TO EXPLORE FIELDS THEY HAVE MAY HAVE INTERESTS IN.

>> YEAH, I MENTIONED A FEW OF THOSE THAT WERE IN THE SLIDE DECK.

A LOT OF SUGGESTIONS AND SOME OF THE SUGGESTIONS WHEN I WORK WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS REALLY ARE ABOUT START LEARNING ABOUT THE JOB THAT YOU THAT I THAT YOU WANT.

WE TALKED ABOUT CREATED THE INVENTORY BUT START LOOKING AROUND ON THE INTERNET EVEN THE JOB SITES AND YOU CAN START TO SEE THE WORK THAT'S OUTLINED IN THAT JOB DESCRIPTION.

SO THAT'S KIND OF A TACTICAL PLACE.

TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE OR FRIENDS.

WHAT ARE THE CAREERS THAT ARE AROUND YOU.

CAN YOU GO JOB SHADOW.

OR THAT YOU WANT TO GET INTO I THINK ALL OF THAT EXPLORATION IS REALLY HELPFUL CREATING AN INVENTORY AND ONE OF THE THING THAT'S ACTUALLY GOT ME TO THE PLACE WHY WHERE I AM IS BECAUSE I HAD A MENTOR IN MY LIFE AND THIS WAS IN COLLEGE AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN IN WHAT I NEEDED TO GO DO -- DID A LOT OF EXPLORATION FOR ME AND HELPED ME TO FIND PSYCHOLOGY.

SO HAVING SOME POTENTIAL MENTORS OR INDIVIDUALS -- WHILE MAYBE THEY NETWORK WITH ME OR I CAN TALK TO THEM.

BUT I THINK SOME OF THE PERSONAL THINGS THAT YOU CAN DO AS WELL ARE REALLY IMPORTANT AS I MENTIONED BEFORE.

LESLIE: >> AND I KNOW THAT MAYBE WON'T BE THE CASE BUT I THINK THAT'S BEEN A REALLY AWESOME OPPORTUNITY THAT I'VE HAD BEING YOUNG AND BEING IN A CAREER IN THE

[01:25:04]

LEGISLATURE AND SO ANOTHER QUESTION FOR OFFICER ROHN, WHAT, KIND OF, TRAINING IS NEEDED TO BE A POLICE OFFICER? , KIND OF, WHAT'S THE STARTING OR AVERAGE PAY.

OFFICER ROHN: >> OKAY.

SO WITH MANY AGENCIES EVERYONE HAS A DIFFERENT SET OF QUALIFICATIONS BUT IN GENERAL WITH THE MESQUITE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND I THINK, KIND OF, ACROSS THE BOARD.

NUMBER ONE YOU HAVE TO BE TWENTY-ONE YEARS OF AGE TO BE A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.

OUR DEPARTMENT REQUIRES 60 HOURSƂĀ€Ā™ WORTH OF COLLEGE CREDIT AND A DEGREE AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE THAT BACKGROUND IN TERMS OF CREDIT MILITARY EXPERIENCE -- THREE YEARS OF MILITARY EXPERIENCE IS EQUIVALENT TO THAT AND THEN THE STANDARD HIRING PROCESS.

SO IT'S JUST BASICALLY SIXTY HOURS OF COLLEGE OR THREE YEARS OF MILITARY EXPERIENCE AND THE MESQUITE POLICE DEPARTMENT STARTING PAY IS CLOSE TO SIXTY-FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR AND A SIX-YEAR STEP INCREASE AS YOU BEAM AN OFFICER AND YOUR TENOR THERE INCREASES YOU HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO MAX OUT AT CLOSE TO EIGHTY-FIVE THOUSAND A YEAR.

LESLIE: >> AND ANOTHER QUESTION FOR LOLIN WHAT ARE SOME RESOURCES THAT UTA OFFERS TO HELP STUDENTS FIND CAREERS THAT THEY'RE INTERESTED?

LOLIN: >> LIKE I SAID I SHOWED THAT ONE SLIDE THAT SHOWED A LOT OF DEVELOPMENT.

MOST INSTITUTIONS HAVE SOME, KIND OF, CAREER DEVELOPMENT OR CAREER CENTER SO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THOSE.

THERE IS GOING TO BE A LOT THERE.

THERE IS ALSO GOING TO BE OPPORTUNITIES TO MEET WITH EMPLOYERS ON THE DAY-TO-DAY TO MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THE TIME TO FIND WHEN THOSE EMPLOYER ARE GOING TO BE INHOUSE AND THAT CAN HELP YOU TO DEVELOP YOUR SKILLS AS WELL.

AND THEN I THINK ALSO WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE EXTRA KICK PARTICULAR ACTIVITIES.

THOSE ARE REALLY IMPORTANT TO GET ENGAGED THERE AND IT'S GOING TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT WHAT CAREER PATH THAT YOU WANT TO GET ENGAGED IN.

AND INTERNSHIPS IS ALSO THE BIGGEST ONE THAT WE TALK ABOUT AND THAT MOST COLLEGES WILL BE OFFERING INTERNSHIPS.

A LOT OF PROGRAMS AND A LOT OF MAJORS REQUIRE INTERNSHIPS SO TAKE ADVANTAGE FOR IF YOU ARE TABLE TO DO AN INTERNSHIP FOR SURE.

LESLIE: >> ABSOLUTELY.

I'M GLAD YOU MENTIONED THAT.

THAT'S, KIND OF, HOW I GOT MY START WORKING FOR REPRESENTATIVE NEAVE AND I DIDN'T THINK I WOULD GET A JOB FROM AN INTERNSHIP.

LOLIN: >> OH, YEAH.

LESLIE: >> I'M GLAD YOU MENTIONED THAT.

I HAVE ONE QUESTION.

THIS IS -- I HAVE ONE QUESTION FOR OFFICER ROHN.

WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING THING THAT YOU HAVE FOUND IN YOUR CAREER AS A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER.

OFFICER ROHN: >> GREAT QUESTION.

THOSE, YOU KNOW, THOSE THINGS TYPICALLY CHANGE EVERY YEAR TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, BUT THE MOST REWARDING THING AT THIS PARTICULAR TIME AND I THINK I WOULD MISS AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT THE STATE OF POLICING RIGHT NOW IN THE WORLD TO BE HONEST WITH YOU.

WHERE WE'RE SEEING INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE EXERCISING THEIR RIGHTS IN TERMS OF BEING ABLE TO PROTEST AND SPEAK OUT ABOUT THE THINGS THAT THEY'RE SEEING ACROSS THIS COUNTRY AND AS LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IT IS INCUMBENT UPON US THAT WE KEEP OUR OPEN LINES OF COMMUNICATION AND DIALOG WITH SOCIETY AND WE HAVE TO INVITE YOUNG PEOPLE IN TO COME TALK TO US.

AND ONE OF THE REWARDING THINGS THIS PARTICULAR YEAR IS THAT I'M IN A POSITION TO GO OUT IN THE COMMUNITY AND HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH INDIVIDUALS TO EXPRESS AND HEAR THEIR CONCERNS AND ALSO TO BE ABLE TO BE A WINDOW OR AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CHANGE TO BE A CHANGE AGENT IN THIS INSTITUTION THIS HISTORIC INSTITUTION THAT WE'VE HAD.

BUT IT HASN'T ALWAYS BEEN PERFECT.

SO INVITING INDIVIDUALS TO HAVE THIS CONVERSATION AND TO MAYBE A CONVERSATION WITH

[01:30:03]

YOUNG PEOPLE THAT THEY'RE THE VERY INDIVIDUALS THAT WE NEED TO COME INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INTO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SO WE CAN REFORM AND WE DON'T HAVE THESE INSTANCES WHERE WE SEE INDIVIDUALS BEING BRUTALIZED OR BEING KILLED.

HOW DO WE MAKE SURE AND OPENLY INVITE INDIVIDUALS INTO THIS PROFESSION SO THEY CAN BE THE VOICES AND THE REFORM.

SO THAT REWARDING ASPECT THIS YEAR IS TO BE A FORCE WITH YOUR YOUNG FOLKS AND OUR COMMUNITY TO SAY HEY YOU MAY NOT LIKE THIS BUT CAN YOU DO THIS JOB AND ONCE YOU GET INTO IT BY ALL MEANS YOU HAVE THE ABILITY AND THE PLATFORM TO CHANGE WHAT YOU SEE.

>> AND A QUESTION FOR LOLIN DO YOU SEE ANY WORKFORCE TRENDS CHANGING DUE TO COVID BECAUSE OF IT AND MAYBE LESS SERVICE JOBS.

>> YEAH, GREAT QUESTION AND WHAT WE SAW EARLY IN THE BEGINNING AND EVERYTHING BACK IN MARCH IS WHEN WE STARTED TO SEE A LITTLE BIT OF THE TRENDING.

THE TRENDING IN THE SENSE THAT FIRST WE SAW SOME OF THE INTERNSHIPS GO AWAY AND I THINK EMPLOYERS DID NOT KNOW HOW TO MANAGE INTERNSHIPS VIRTUALLY SO WE SAW THAT DECREASE.

AND NOW WE'RE SEEING INTERNSHIPS STARTING TO COME BACK.

SO IT DEFINITELY HAS GONE ON.

I THINK YOU SAW OPT UT GRAPH THAT IT AND EDUCATION ARE SOME OF THE TOP POSTING CAREERS AND CAREER PATHS RIGHT NOW AND THOSE ARE THE INDUSTRIES THAT WE HAVE POSTING.

SO I THINK THAT WILL BE A TREND FOR A BIT.

NOW, I THINK THE OTHER THING THAT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT CAREER SKILLS AND THIS COVID.

A LOT OF THE STUDENT THAT'S COME TO US AND ASK HOW DO I EVEN STAND OUT NOW.

I'M NOT SURE THAT I SHOULD BE TALKING IN MY INTERVIEW.

AND SO I DO WANT TO CALL OUT THE SOFT SKILLS TO REMOVE THE TITLE OF SOFT SKILLS BECAUSE THEYƂĀ€Ā™RE THE MOST INFORM SKILLED THAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE TABLE LIKE THE CRITICAL THINKING THE LEADERSHIP AND THE FLEXIBILITY AND THAT'S WHAT EMPLOYERS ARE LOOKING FOR.

SO CAN YOU HAVE A TECHNICAL SKILL BUT THAT'S JUST A TICKET TO PLAY, BUT THIS ABILITY TO DIFFERENTIATE YOURSELVES AND HOW CAN YOU BE A GOOD TEAM PLAYER.

HOW I THINK CRITICALLY, HOW I'M A PROBLEM SOLVER AND THOSE ARE BECOMING EVEN MORE AND MORE CRITICAL.

SO WE TELL STUDENTS THAT YOU GET HIRED FOR THE HARD SKILLS BUT YOU GET FIRED FOR THE SOFT SKILLS AND THIS IS HOW THIS TRANSLATES AND ARTICULATE IT INTO AN INTERVIEW.

YES, INTERNSHIPS ARE ON THE RISE, BUT I THINK WE'RE SEEING THAT COMES ARE NOT GOING TO BRING JOBS BACK.

-- FOR THE ENTIRE I THINK SEVENTY-FIVE PERCENT OF HIS COMPANY IS NOW VIRTUAL.

THEY WILL NEVER HAVE AN OFFICE TO GO BACK TOO.

SO THINGS WILL CHANGE HOW YOU DO TEAM WORK VIRTUALLY IS GOING TO CHANGE HOW YOU WORK IN AND ON A CAMPUS BUT BE AWARE THAT THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN AND TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.

I HOPE THAT LITTLE BIT OF LONG ANSWER BUT I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.

LESLIE: >> NO, ABSOLUTELY, AND SOMETHING I THINK I'VE NOTICED WORKING IS SOMETIMES YOU THINK, OKAY, I'M GIVEN THESE TASKS AND I NEED TO FOLLOW THEM AS TIME TOLD YOU BUT I NOTICE THAT EMPLOYERS WANT TO HEAR YOU HEY I AN IDEA MAYBE WE CAN DO IT THIS WAY.

IT'S NOT ALWAYS DO AS YOUR TOLD AND EMPLOYERS WANT TO HAVE NEW FRESH IDEAS SO I'M GLAD THAT YOU TOUCHED ON THAT.

ARE THERE ANY SKILLS THAT STUDENTS ARE LOOKING THAT THEY CAN DEVELOP TO, KIND OF, SET THEMSELVES APART WHEN THEYƂĀ€Ā™RE IN THE JOB APPLICATION PROCESS.

[01:35:03]

LOLIN: >> YEAH, AGAIN, WHAT WE HERE FROM EMPLOYERS A LOT OF THE TIMES AND I THINK FOR EVERY INSTITUTION [INAUDIBLE] TECHNICAL SKILLS ARE GREAT AND I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEYMOUR IN THEIR ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN TEAMS. THEIR ABILITY TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY.

THEIR ABILITY TO ARTICULATE A POWERPOINT PRESENT OR PRESENTATION SKILLS.

SO WHAT YOU TEND TO SEE IN OUR CONVERSATION WAS EMPLOYERS I THINK THE TECHNICAL SKILLS AND YOUR ABILITY TO BE TECHNICAL EXPERT -- I GO BACK TO THESE POWER SKILLS IF YOU WILL AND BEING ABLE TO ARTICULATE HOW YOU'RE GOING TO THINK CRITICALLY.

SO I CAN BE AN ACCOUNTANT AND BE INTERVIEWING.

THERE IS GOING TO BE HUNDREDS OF RESUMES THAT HAVE THE SAME CLASSES AND SAME INTERNSHIPS BUT YOU CAN WRAP THAT UP WITH THESE POWER SKILLS AND WE GET THAT THROUGH TO EMPLOYERS ALL THE TIME.

WE CONNECT THE DOTS AND EMPLOYERS COME BACK AND LET US KNOW ABOUT THESE SOFT POWER SKILLS IF YOU WILL.

LESLIE: >> AND THIS QUESTION IS FOR OFFICER ROHN.

WHAT ARE SOME OTHER JOBS THAT ARE AVAILABLE WITHIN POLICE DEPARTMENT KIND OF LIKE 911 DISPATCH.

WHAT ARE OTHER POSITIONS THAT PEOPLE CAN LOOK AT IF THEY WANT TO GO INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

OFFICER ROHN: >> GREAT QUESTION AGAIN.

AND I ALSO POINT OUT THE FACT THAT, YOU KNOW, SOME PEOPLE DO NOT NECESSARILY WANT TO BE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT BUT THEY WANT TO BE SOME -- AS A POLICE OFFICER BUT WANT TO BE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT IN SOME OTHER ASPECT AND WHEN I TALK TO GRADUATING SENIORS AND HIGH SCHOOLS IS OUR -- A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REALLY THAT AND OBVIOUSLY IN ORDER TO BE A POLICE OFFICER YOU NEED TO BE AT LEAST TWENTY-ONE YEARS OF AGE, BUT TO BE A DETENTION OFFICER OR A DISPATCH YOU ARE YOU HAVE TO BE EIGHTEEN WITH A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR A GED EQUIVALENT.

AND SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL TRYING TO GO FIGURE OUT IF THEY WANT TO GO FULL FLEDGES INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

AND YOU CAN COME IN AS A DISPATCHER AND THEY USUALLY START OFF AT NINETEEN DOLLARS.

THAT'S A LOT OF MANY FOR AN EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD AND HOW WELL IS THAT IN TERM OF MAKE SURE THAT YOU GO TO SCHOOL PART-TIME PER SAY AND THEN WORKING THIS JOB WHERE YOU GET APPLICABLE SKILLS THAT MANY FIND NECESSARY AND THEN WHEN YOU TURN TWENTY-ONE YOUR HITTING THE GROUND RUNNING.

SO 18 YEARS OF AGE AND HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR GED EQUIVALENT.

THE CAVEAT AND I DON'T THINK PEOPLE REALIZE THAT AS LONG AS YOU HIT THAT EIGHTEEN-YEAR MARK AND YOU'RE GOING TO GRADUATE IN SIX MONTHS FROM THE TIME THAW GET YOUR DIPLOMA.

YOU CAN STILL APPLY.

YOU DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO HAVE YOUR DIPLOMA OR GED IN HAND.

WE WILL APPLY YOU TO APPLY FOR IN THAT SIX-MONTH TIME FRAME AND CAN YOU ALREADY BE IN THAT PROCESS AND SOLIDIFY A POSITION.

WHETHER IT'S GOING INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT OR GOING TO SCHOOL YOU ALREADY HAVE THIS IN YOUR BACK POCKET.

PEARLA>> OUR ATTENDEES ARE WELCOME TO PUT QUESTIONS IN THE CHAT.

WHAT MESSAGE OR PIECE OF KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU KNOW NOW THAT YOU WISH YOU WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHEN YOU WERE A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR AND THAT QUESTION IS FOR BOTH OF OUR PANELIST.

OFFICER ROHN: >> OKAY.

LOIN: >> YEAH, I DO GO BACK AND AGAIN CONVERSATIONS THAT I WISH I HAD AND THE CONVERSATIONS THAT I HAVE WITH MY OWN KIDS.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING.

YOU CAN NEED TO HAVE SOME SORT OF A PLAN AND THIS WAS A GOOD EXAMPLE OF AN OUTLINE

[01:40:08]

BUT KNOWING DEADLINES ARE IMPORTANT BUT YOU DON'T HAVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING AND THEN MOVING FORWARD ESPECIALLY IF YOU GO INTO AN INSTITUTION THERE ARE FOLK THAT'S ARE GOING TO HELP YOU.

YOU'RE NOT ALONE.

IT IS A JOURNEY AND THERE IS A WHOLE COMMUNITY THAT'S HERE TO SUPPORT YOU IN THAT CAREER PATH AND I ASK MY SON.

HE WAS HELPING ME SET UP WITH THIS WHOLE CAMERA TECHNICAL SKILLS ARE NOT MY FORTE.

HE SAYS THAT YOU CAN CHANGE.

THAT WAS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST THING I WISH I COULD TELL MY YOUNGER STEVE.

HE'S A SENIOR AT UTA IN ARCHITECTURE AND TO TAKE SOME OF THAT PRESSURE OFF.

YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR PATH.

IT IS IN YOUR POWER.

THERE ARE THINGS THAT YOU NEED TO THING ABOUT IN MAKING THAT CHANGE BUT IT'S OKAY.

YOU'RE NOT LOCKED.

NOBODY TOLD ME THAT CLASSES WOULD TRANSFER OVER TO ANOTHER MAJOR.

SO I THINK JUST KEEPING THAT IN MIND COULD BE HELPFUL.

OFFICER ROHN: >> YEAH, AND ALSO I THINK YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD NUMBER ONE.

AND NUMBER TWO AS A HIGH SCHOOL, YOU KNOW, SENIOR OR SOMEBODY WHO IS LOOKING AT GRADUATING, I THINK PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE THAT IT'S INTIMIDATING.

I WOULDN'T CALL IT SCARY, BUT IT'S VERY INTIMIDATING AND IF I HAD KNOWN BACK THEN THAT IF I CHANGED, I WASN'T GOING TO BE A FAILURE.

THAT IT WAS OKAY.

I HAD LEARNED BACK THEN THAT EVERYTHING DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THIS LINEAR PATH THAT'S STRAIGHT FORWARD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE THINGS A LOT EASIER AND KNOWING THAT I HAVE THE ABILITY OR REACH OUT TO SOMEBODY AND SAY MAYBE I MADE A MISTAKE AND CAN I TURN DOWN A DIFFERENT PATH WITHOUT LETTING SOMEONE DOWN.

I THINK THOSE OPEN AND HONEST CONVERSATIONS DON'T NECESSARILY THINK WERE A PART OF MY JOURNEY BACK THEN BUT I DO THINK IT NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING INHERENT AND I TELL MY SON AND DAUGHTER RIGHT NOW -- TO PUT ON SOMEBODY.

BUT WHEN YOU GET THERE.

YOU KNOW, AND YOU START SEEING THING AND YOU OPEN YOUR MIND AND YOU USE YOUR VOICE TO TALK TO FOLKS AND GET INTERNSHIPS AN GET FOLKS THAT YOU CAN TALK TO AND THAT YOU RELY ON AND THAT YOU TRUST, THEN DOORS AND WINDOWS START TO OPEN AND IT SHEDS A LIGHT ON THINGS THAT SEEMED SO DARK AT ONE POINT IN TIME.

I WOULD SAY YES, YOU WANT TO GO AND YOU WANT TO HAVE A COLLEGE EXPERIENCE AND YOU NEED FRIENDS AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE BUT YOU ALSO WANT TO TAKE THE TIME TO FOCUS ONS THAT NETWORKING COMPONENT AND THOSE ADVISORS AND THOSE TEACHERS AND THE PEOPLE THAT YOU KNOW IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND.

BECAUSE YOU JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT DOOR MAY OPEN OR -- LESLIE: >> AWESOME AND WE HAVE A QUESTION IN THE CHAT FOR LOLIN.

SHOULD STUDENTS BE LOOKING AT NEW CAREERS IN THIS COVID ENVIRONMENT.

LOLIN: >> YOU KNOW, IT'S A GREAT QUESTION.

I WOULD SAY YES.

AND HERE'S HOW I WOULD PUT A CAVEAT.

I'LL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE.

I WAS PART AND I WAS JUST LISTENING TO AN ARCHITECTURE AND THE QUESTION WAS WHAT DO I DO NOW.

SHOULD I SWITCH CAREERS.

ARCHITECTURE IS NOT GROWING AND ONE OF THEM SAID LISTEN.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO CHANGE YOUR CAREER, BUT YOU MIGHT WANT TO THINK ABOUT WHAT ARE THE OTHER THINGS THAT CAN YOU DO WITH ARCHITECTURE.

THE INTERNSHIP OR THAT FIRST JOB THAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO GO GET IS GONE.

SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO GO DO WHEN YOU OPEN UP AND START TALKING ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE.

SO THERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN DO WITH INTERIOR DESIGN AND EVEN EXTERIOR DESIGN.

[01:45:05]

I WOULD SAY THAT EVERY MAJOR STILL THAT'S OPPORTUNITIES OR WE HAVEN'T SEEN ANY JOBS OR INDUSTRY PER SAY GO AWAY IF YOU WILL OR SEE THOSE JOBS DECREASE AND THE OTHER THING THAT THEY SAID AND I'LL GO BACK TO THIS IS WORKING ON THE SOFT SKILL.

LESLIE: >> ANOTHER QUESTION FOR OFFICER ROHN.

WHAT ADVANTAGES DOES A STUDENT HAVE FOR HAVING A HIGHER EDUCATION DEGREE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT.

OFFICER ROHN: >> ALSO ANOTHER GREAT QUESTION.

I THINK AT ONE TIME IT WASN'T STRESSES IN LAW ENFORCEMENT LIKE IT IS NOW.

SO IT'S VERY COMPLICATED.

IS THERE'S THE SKILLS AND THE ASSETS THAT INDIVIDUALS NEED TO HAVE WHEN THEY COME IN AND ONE OF MY MANY POSITIONS IS BEING ABLE TO SPEAK WITH SOMEBODY.

COMMUNICATION IS A BIG DEAL.

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR POINT OF VIEW ACROSS.

HOW DO YOU DE -- ARE YOU GOOD WITH, YOU KNOW, SOCIAL ADVOCACY PER SAY.

DOWN THE ADMINISTRATIVE SIDE IN TERMS OF BUDGETING AND MANPOWER ALLOCATION.

ARE YOU ABLE TO WRITE A PROPOSAL OR GRANT TO GET RESOURCE FROM THE FEDERAL AND STATE AND LOCAL LEVEL.

A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT YES, IT'S CRIMINAL JUSTIFY BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER COLLEGE MAJORS THAT WHEN YOU BRING INDIVIDUALS WITH THESE DIFFERENT SKILLS AND ASSETS TOGETHER THAT'S WHAT PROPELS YOUR ORGANIZATION FORWARD.

AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE A THAT THEN YOUR ORGANIZATION BEGINS TO CRUMBLE AND YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT HOW TO WE REVAMP THIS THING AND YOU -- AND DIFFERENT BACKGROUND IN TERMS OF THE THINGS THAT THEY MAJOR IN AND THEY WERE INTERESTED IN AND THEY BROUGHT ALL OF THOSE SKILLS INTO LAW ENFORCEMENT.

SO IT'S A PLUS TO HAVE INDIVIDUALS WITH A CRIMINAL JUSTICE DEGREE PER SAY OR DO YOU HAVE SOMEBODY WITH A DEGREE IN ACCOUNTING THAT I CAN PLACE MANY WHILE COLLAR CRIME.

DO I HAVE SOMEONE WITH A COMPUTER IT BACKGROUND AND WHO CAN GO INTO AND START LOOKING AT FORENSIC -- THIS HISTORIC INSTITUTIONS IN THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY OF POLICING.

LESLIE: >> AND I HAVE ONE LAST QUESTION FOR LOLIN BEFORE WE WRAP UP FOR THE PAN.

LOLIN: >> AS STUDENTS ARE BEING TAUGHT ONLINE FACE-TO-FACE IS THERE A DISADVANTAGE TO THAT.

WELL, I GUESS THE FEEDBACK FROM OUR STUDENTS ON CAMPUS TALK ABOUT -- IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT AND THEY DO FEEL THAT THEY ARE MISSING OUT ON SELF-ASPECTS OF THEIR LEARNING BY THE SAME TOKEN.

I SEE A RESILIENT AND A PATTERN OF DRIVE THAT I HAVE NOT ENCOUNTERED FROM OUR STUDENTS BEFORE.

AND THEY'LL SHARE THAT TOO.

I'VE HAD TO REALLY FOCUS MORE OR TIME MANAGE BETTER.

SO OBVIOUSLY I'M A PROPONENT OF BEING ABLE TO DO THAT AND ONLINE SCHOOLS AND ONLINE EXPERIENCES DO HAVE MANY ADVANTAGES AND OBVIOUSLY NOW TOO.

I THINK THE LOSS IS MORE IN THE COMMUNITY BUILDING AND IT'S IN THOSE RELATIONSHIP BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE WITH FACULTY AND STAFF THAT MIGHT HELP YOU.

BUT THEY'RE HAVING TO GET REALLY CREATIVE ABOUT HOW NEW ENGAGE AND HOW THINK TALK WITH THEIR PROFESSORS AN HAVING A SENSE OF BELONGING ON CAMPUS -- THE PIECES THAT WE'RE ALSO HAVING TO DEAL WITH ON CAMPUS IS MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES AND EVEN JUST BEING ON CAMERA FOR EIGHT HOURS A DAY IS MORE EXHAUSTING OR STRESSFUL THAN DOING GAMING.

SO WE'RE EXPERIENCING A HIGH NEED FOR COUNSELORS AND I THINK THE SCHOOLING AND THE

[01:50:18]

ACADEMICS WE'LL GET THROUGH AND I KNOW THAT A LOT OF FOLKS ARE DOING THE HYBRID EXPERIENCE.

IS IT THE BEST.

NO.

WILL WE MAKE IT, I THINK SO.

AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN HELP OUR STUDENTS GET TO THE OTHER SIDE.

LESLIE: >> THANKS YOU SO MUCH TO BOTH OF OUR PANELIST.

WE REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF THE INCITE THAT YOU PROVIDED.

AND WE HOPE THAT'S BEEN HELPFUL FOR OUR ATTENDEES.

SO THAT WILL CONCLUDE OUR PANEL ASPECT OF IT AND WE'RE GOING TO GO GIVE SOME INSTRUCTIONS ON THE COLLEGE FAIR ASPECT OF THE EVENT.

SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE FOUR BREAKOUT ROOMS AND EACH BREAKOUT ROOMS IS GOING TO HAVE FOUR COLLEGES.

AND SO IN THE CHAT WE WILL BE BUTTING THE DIFFERENT LINKS THAT YOU WILL BE USING.

WE ALSO HAVE SOME FREE PRIZES FROM COLLEGES AND SO WE'LL MAKE SURE TO CONNECT WITH EVERYONE ON GETTING YOU ALL THAT TO PICK UP FROM OUR DISTRICT OFFICE AND SO THE FIRST BREAKOUT ROOM IS GOING TO BE UT [INAUDIBLE], UT PERMIAN BASIN AND UT AUSTIN.

THE SECOND BREAKOUT ROOM IS DALLAS COLLEGE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS AT DALLAS.

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS.

THE THIRD ONE IS TEXAS A AND TEXAS TECHNICAL COLLEGE.

AND SO IN THE CHAT WE WILL BE PUTTING ALL THE LINKS AND YOU CAN -- LET'S SAY YOU WANT TO HEAR FROM ONE COLLEGE AT ONE TIME AN THEN MOVE TO ANOTHER ROOM YOU CAN TRANSITION, AND SO WITH THAT BEING SAID I'LL TURN IT BACK TO TRUSTEE MONICA LIRA BRAVO AND REPRESENTATIVE NEAVE SO THEY CAN STOP BY BEFORE WE BREAKOUT INTO OUR ROOM.

REP.

NEAVE: >> HI, EVERYBODY.

CAN YOU HEAR ME? OKAY WE JUST WANTED TO STOP IN AGAIN AND THANK EVERYBODY AS WE PUT ALL OF THAT TOGETHER.

THERE IS A LOT OF FOLKS BEHIND THE SCENES WOE HAVE DONE WORK TO GET TO TOGETHER.

SO I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE AT DALLAS COLLEGE WHO IS HELPING US FACILITATE THE TECHNOLOGY AND THANK YOU TO OUR SPEAKS FOR TAKING YOUR TIME OUT OF YOUR DAY AND WE'RE GOING TO GET THIS INFORMATION OUT TO THE INDIVIDUALS.

AND WE'RE TRY TO GO TWEET OUT THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE BEING ASKED AND WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME THIS MORNING AND LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING FROM THE COLLEGES AND SO WITH THAT I'LL HAND IT OVER TO DALLAS COLLEGE TRUSTEE MONICA LIRA BRAVO.

IF NOT IN THE MEANTIME I'M HAPPY TO TURN IT OVER TO LESLIE AND US TO HAVE GOODY BAGS FOR ALL OF THE ATTENDEES.

THANK YOU ALL.

LESLIE: >> AND I'LL PUT IN THE CHAT MY EMAIL SO OUR ATTENDEES CAN EMAIL ME TO GET SURE WE GET YOU YOUR GOODY BAGS AND WE THANK THE COLLEGES FOR SENDING US STUFF THAT WE CAN PROVIDE AND I'LL PUT MY EMAIL IN THE CHAT SO YOU CAN REACH OUT TO ME AND WE CAN ORGANIZE THAT.

[01:55:06]

I ALMOST FORGOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE SOME LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS THAT I CAN EMAIL YOU ALL.

I HAVE IT IN A WORD DOCK AND THEIR INTERNSHIPS HAVE WERE WON IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND YOU THINK THEY HAVE A SMALLER POOL AND IN THE CHAT WE HAVE THE INDIVIDUAL BREAKOUT ROOMS AND YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND CLICK WHICH BREAKOUT ROOM YOU WANT TO GO INTO AND THAT WAY WE CAN GET THAT PORTION STARTED.

THANK YOU.

STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY IN MANY WAYS.

SO EMERGENCY AID WAS ONE OF THE THE FUNDS THAT WE DO HAVE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS.

WE ALSO HAVE TUITION WAIVERS FOR DEAF AND BLIND STUDENTS.

AND THEN WE HAVE THE DART STUDENT GO PASS, STUDENTS THAT QUALIFIED TAKE THAT TAKE OVER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF CREDITS, THEY'RE ABLE TO GET FREE DART PASSES, AND THAT'S TO RIDE THE TRAIN OR THE BUS.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER TOOL CALLED MY D, TRIPLE C D COMMUNITY SERVICES.

AND BASICALLY STUDENTS CAN USE THIS TOOL, THEY GO IN AND BIN, THEIR ZIP CODE.

AND WHATEVER THEIR NEED IS, WHETHER THAT'S HEALTH, YOU KNOW, PAYING RENT, MAYBE IT'S HEALTH CARE SERVICES, DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE THAT.

AND IT WILL BRING UP A LOT OF LOW COST COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS.

SO I MENTIONED THE DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE, AND WHAT IS THE DALLAS PROMISE, IT'S A COALITION OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS, COLLEGES, UNIVERSITIES, EMPLOYERS, AND COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE ALL JOINED FORCES TO HELP MORE DALLAS COUNTY STUDENTS COMPLETE COLLEGE AND BEGIN THEIR CAREERS.

FOR THE DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE IT DOES CALL A COVER THE COST OF TUITION AT ANY OF OUR SEVEN CAMPUSES FOR UP TO THREE YEARS OR THE COMPLETION OF AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.

AND SO BASICALLY, PARTICIPATING HIGH SCHOOLS, YOU MEET THREE DEADLINES, YOU TAKE THE PLEDGE, WHICH THAT IS OPEN NOW.

YOU APPLY FOR COLLEGE BY FEBRUARY 5, YOU COMPLETE YOUR FASTFORWARD TASKS, BUT BY MARCH 5, AND THEN REGISTER FOR CLASSES BY JULY 30, OF 2021.

AND THAT'S FREE TUITION SO THAT THAT'S A GREAT SAVINGS.

AND THERE'S THE LINK FAIR, DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE.ORG, IF YOU WANT TO CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR HIGH SCHOOL IS ONE OF THOSE PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS.

AND THEN ANOTHER GREAT PART IS THAT THEY DO HAVE UNIVERSITIES THAT HAVE JOINED THOSE FORCES AS WELL.

SO YOU'RE ABLE TO COME IN AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE WITH US, AND THEN TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE, PARTNERING UNIVERSITY.

SO YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO NOT ONLY EARN AN ASSOCIATE'S BUT ALSO HAVE TO EARN A BACHELOR'S UNDER THAT PROGRAM.

AND THAT'S FOR TUITION.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE THE RISING STAR PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDES QUALIFIED HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES WITH ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES, CAREER DEVELOPMENT, AND UP TO $5,500 FOR CONDITIONING BOOKS AT DALLAS COLLEGE, FOR STUDENTS THAT HAVE FINANCIAL NEED.

SO AGAIN, FOR MORE INFORMATION, YOU CAN VISIT D TRIPLE C D.EDU, FORWARD SLASH RISING STAR.

AND THEN ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES DO HAVE RISING STAR OFFICES.

SO IN ADDITION TO BEING AFFORDABLE, WE'RE ALSO FLEXIBLE, ESPECIALLY OUR CLASS SCHEDULES.

SO ARE YOU CHOOSING BETWEEN ATTENDING COLLEGE PART TIME OR FULL TIME, AND THAT WAS COLLEGE YOU CAN GO ANYTIME BECAUSE WE HAVE FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR YOU.

SO WE GET IT, WE UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR SCHEDULE IS BUSY, YOU MAY BE JUGGLING COLLEGE WITH WORK OR FAMILY OR YOU MAY BE DOING BOTH.

THAT'S WHY DALLAS COLLEGE OFFERS FLEXIBLE CLASS SCHEDULES AT TIMES THAT WORK BEST FOR YOU.

SO WHETHER YOU'RE A NIGHT OWL, ANALYZING ACCOUNTING, OR YOU'RE A MORNING BIRD MASTER AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE, YOUR OPTIONS ARE, YOUR OPTIONS ARE JUST THEY'RE LIMITLESS AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

SO AT ELLIS COLLEGE, WE DO ENCOURAGE YOU TO DO COLLEGE YOUR WAY ON YOUR OWN TIME.

AND THAT'S AGAIN, JUST ONE OF THOSE WAYS THAT WE SHOW THAT WE CARE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND THAT INCLUDES PROFESSORS THAT CARE FOR YOU.

SO AT DALLAS COLLEGE, OUR PROFESSORS, THEY DON'T LECTURE THEY LISTEN, YOU'LL BE ENCOURAGED TO ACHIEVE MORE AND TO EARN MORE.

SO MY PROFESSORS THAT CARE DEEPLY ABOUT YOUR SUCCESS.

SO RATHER THAN TEACHING YOU WHAT THE THING, THEY'LL TEACH YOU HOW TO FAKE OUR PROFESSORS, THEY DEDICATE 100% OF THEIR TIME TO YOUR SUCCESS.

AND THAT'S THE FOCUS THERE'S YOUR MAIN FOCUS IS TEACHING.

AND THEN OUR SMALL STUDENT TO FACULTY RATIO ALSO SUPPORTS EXCELLENCE IN

[02:00:01]

TEACHING AND LEARNING.

THE LAST POINT I WANT TO MAKE ABOUT NO SOLID BEING FOR YOU IS THAT WE OFFER OPEN ENROLLMENT.

SO YOUR HIGH SCHOOL GPA, YOUR RESIDENCY STATUS, WHO YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU KNOW, IT DOESN'T MATTER.

AT DALLAS COLLEGE, WE DO BELIEVE THAT COLLEGE IS FOR EVERYONE.

WHETHER YOU'RE YOUNG OR OLD, FOR RICH BLACK OR WHITE BEGINNER AWARD FANS, WE OPEN OUR DOORS IN OUR HEARTS TO EVERYONE.

ALL WE ASK IN RETURN IS FOR YOU TO OPEN YOUR MIND TO ALL THE POSSIBILITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES THE COLLEGE HAS TO OFFER.

BECAUSE THERE'S SO MANY.

THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT DALLAS COLLEGE OFFERS 100% ONLINE CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES RIGHT AT YOUR FINGERTIPS.

YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN SAID THAT TO GET WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, YOU FIRST HAVE TO LEAVE WHERE YOU ARE.

BUT WHOEVER SAID THAT THEY CLEARLY HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ONLINE CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES BECAUSE AT DALLAS COLLEGE, YOU CAN TAKE CLASSES FROM YOUR HOME IN YOUR PJS ANYTIME YOU WANT, AND STILL EARN THE SAME DEGREE AS SOMEONE WHO DROVE 30 MINUTES TO CAMPUS.

SO AFTER ALL, YOU KNOW YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS THE TIME OR SPEND THE TIME FIGHTING TRAFFIC IF YOU DON'T WANT TO.

THANK YOU.

GREETINGS EVERYONE.

I AM WAITING TO SEE IF I CAN ACTUALLY GET CONTROL SO I CAN SHARE MY SCREEN BEAR WITH US JUST A MOMENT.

ALL RIGHT, CAN EVERYONE SEE MY POWERPOINT SCREEN? YES, THUMBS UP PERFECT.

THANKS SO MUCH.

APPRECIATE THE THUMBS UP LOVE THOSE.

SO MY NAME IS TAYLOR AND LEE.

I AM AN ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT OFFICER AT PAUL QUINN COLLEGE.

IT IS A GREAT THING ACTUALLY TO BE FOLLOWING UP DALLAS COLLEGE BECAUSE I AM ACTUALLY A GRADUATE OF RICHLAND COLLEGE BACK IN 2008.

SO I RECEIVED MY ASSOCIATES DEGREE IN ARTS IN 2008 FROM RACHEL AND I TRANSFER IT TO PAUL QUINN AND I'M ALSO AN ALUMNA OF PAUL QUINN.

AND SO IT IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS TO BE SO EXCITED TO FOLLOW UP DALLAS COLLEGES AND BEING ABLE TO BASICALLY SPEAK TO THE RELATIONSHIP THAT THE COLLEGE ACTUALLY HAS WITH DALLAS COLLEGES FROM NOT ONLY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, BUT ALSO FROM THE ACTUAL ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION AS WELL.

SO I WILL GO AHEAD AND GET US STARTED.

SO JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT PAUL QUINN COLLEGE WE WERE FOUNDED ON APRIL 4 OF 1872 IN AUSTIN, TEXAS.

MOST PEOPLE ACTUALLY KNOW US FOR ACTUALLY BEING LOCATED WITHIN THE WACO CITY LIMITS,

[02:10:02]

BUT WE WERE ACTUALLY FOUNDED IN AUSTIN, TEXAS, AND WE MOVED FIVE YEARS LATER TO OUR CAMPUS THAT IS ACTUALLY IN THE PICTURE THAT IS ON THE LEFT.

AND WE WERE THERE FROM 1877 UNTIL 1999 1990 EXCUSE ME WHEN WE MOVED TO DALLAS, TEXAS IN THE CURRENT LOCATION WHERE WE ARE.

WE WERE FOUNDED BY A GROUP OF AMMI PREACHERS, AND OUR PURPOSE WAS TO EDUCATE FREED SLAVES AND THEIR OFFSPRING IN 19 IN 1870S, EXCUSE ME, WE ARE A PRIVATE FAITH BASE FOR YOUR LIBERAL ARTS INSPIRE COLLEGE.

OUR INSTITUTIONAL ETHOS IS WE ARE OVER ME, WHICH BASICALLY MEANS THAT THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY SUPERSEDE THE WANTS OF THE INDIVIDUAL.

AND AS YOU SEE ON THE SLIDE, AS WELL AS ON MY POLO AND MY GREAT SIDE BEHIND ME, WE REALLY TRULY LIVE THAT WAY OVER ME IN OUR DAILY LIFE AS TONIGHT, ONE OF THE REALLY BIG THINGS THAT WE'VE ACTUALLY DONE AS A CAMPUS AND CURRENTLY IS GOING ON AS WE SPEAK AT THIS VERY TIME IS OUR COVID-19 TESTING SITE.

SO WE REALIZED THAT THERE NEEDED TO BE TESTING IN AREAS WHERE PEOPLE OF COLOR LIVED, AND THERE WERE NO AVAILABLE PLACES THAT WERE FREE, AND DIDN'T HAVE ANY STIPULATIONS, SUCH AS HAVE TO HAVE INSURANCE, BUT IT WAS FREE, YOU HAD TO BE, YOU KNOW, SYMPTOMATIC AND SHOWING SYMPTOMS OF THE VIRUS, WE WANTED TO MAKE IT TO WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO BASICALLY HAVE THAT CONNECTION WITH THE COMMUNITY, AND MAKE SURE THAT OUR COMMUNITIES WERE BEING SERVICED AND BEING TESTED, SO THAT WE COULD BASICALLY GET A HOLD ON TO THIS VIRUS, AND SO ON EVERY SATURDAY FROM 10AM TO 4PM.

OUR CAMPUS IS OPEN FOR COVID TESTING, OUR EMPLOYEES ARE NOT DOING THE COVID TESTING.

BUT WE DO HAVE A PRIVATE LAB THAT ACTUALLY COMES IN AND PROVIDES THAT TESTING, THE ONLY STIPULATIONS THAT YOU HONESTLY HAVE TO HAVE IS HAVING SOME TYPE OF STATE ISSUED ID AND A PHONE NUMBER SO THAT THEY CAN GET YOUR RESULTS.

THAT IS THAT WE OVER ME IN ACTION FOR THE COTTAGE.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE ACTUALLY BECAME A MODEL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION IN 2015.

THROUGH OUR DESIGNATION AS THE NATION'S FIRST AND ONLY URBAN WORK COLLEGE.

WHAT THAT MEANS IS OUR STUDENTS HAVE THE UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO NOT ONLY HAVE THEIR SUBJECT MATTER MASTERY, WHICH IS THEIR EDUCATION OR THEIR DEGREE PLAN, BUT ALSO TO HAVE EXPERIENTIAL MASTERY THROUGH A JOB THAT IS TYPICALLY APPLICABLE TO THEIR ACTUAL MAJOR.

SO FOR OUR STUDENTS THAT MAY BE ON OUR PATHWAY TO TEACHER CERTIFICATION, THEY'VE BEEN WORKING ONE OF OUR LOCAL SCHOOL PARTNERS, FOR OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE ONE OF OUR BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION.

WITH CONCENTRATION ON ACCOUNTING, THEY MAY BE WORKING IN A POSITION AT JPMORGAN CHASE, OR THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF DALLAS.

SO IT BASICALLY IS WHERE YOU'RE GETTING A CHANCE TO BASICALLY HAVE THAT HAND IN HAND EXPERIENCE WITH NOT ONLY GETTING YOUR ACTUAL EDUCATION BUT APPLYING IT TO A JOB AND LEARNING HOW TO DO DURING THE TIME THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE ACTUALLY MATRICULATING WITH US THEY ARE WORKING THOSE JOBS, BUT IT IS GOING TO BE SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE ONLY WORKING 10 TO 16 HOURS DEPENDING UPON WHATEVER THAT AGREEMENT WITH THAT SCHOOL IS.

SO AT THE END OF THE DAY, I DON'T WANT YOU TO THINK YOU'RE WORKING A FULL TIME JOB AS YOU'RE TAKING FULL TIME COURSELOAD.

BUT IT IS SOMETHING THAT WHENEVER YOU'RE GRADUATING, YOU'RE LEAVING AS HIGHER ALONG WITH THE TIME THAT YOU'RE WITH US, YOU WOULD THEN GRADUATE WITH THAT EXPERIENCE UNDER YOUR BELT AND AS WELL AS FOR YOUR RESUME.

AS FAR AS OUR MAJORS, OUR MAJORS ARE GOING TO BE BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, A BACHELOR OF ARTS, EXCUSE ME IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION WITH CONCENTRATIONS ON ACCOUNTING, ENTREPRENEURSHIP, FUNDRAISING AND PHILANTHROPY.

AND MANAGEMENT, WHICH IS THE DEGREE THAT OUR HOPE FROM THE COLLEGE A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE AND HEALTH AND WELLNESS, A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN LEGAL STUDIES IN CRIMINOLOGY, A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN RELIGIOUS STUDIES, AND A BACHELOR OF ARTS IN LIBERAL ARTS, CONCENTRATIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS, GENERAL STUDIES, HISTORY, POLITICAL SCIENCE, AND PSYCHOLOGY.

ALSO, WE HAVE IT TO WHERE THE BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN LIBERAL ARTS WITH A CONCENTRATION ON MATHEMATICS.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE HAVE OUR BACHELOR OF ARTS AND LIBERAL ARTS PATHWAY TO PATHWAY TO TEACHER CERTIFICATION FROM THE EARLY CHILDHOOD THROUGH SIXTH GRADE.

AND THEN ALSO SO HERE WAS OUR TUITION AND FEES FOR THE 2019 2020 YEAR DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DID NOT WANT US TO ACTUALLY BE LOOKING AT OKAY, SORRY, HOLD ON ONE SECOND, GUYS.

I'M JUST REALIZING THAT SHE'S TELLING ME THAT MY SCREENS ARE SHOWING THE WRONG ONES.

HOLD ON ONE SECOND.

SORRY.

ALL RIGHT.

ARE WE GOOD NOW? ARE WE SEEING THE SCREEN THAT'S ACTUALLY SHARING? I APOLOGIZE.

I DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT SO SORRY, GUYS.

UM, SO ALL RIGHT.

SO HERE'S OUR TUITION AND FEES PAGE.

SO BASICALLY, I WANTED TO USE THE 2019 2020 PRICING JUST BECAUSE THAT WAS THE FOURTH THE LAST YEAR WHERE WE WERE HAVING OUR FULL PRICING SO THAT YOU WOULD

[02:15:02]

GET TO SEE WHAT IT ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE FOR AN OWN KID OFF CAMPUS GIVES ME FULL TIME STUDENTS.

SO AS FAR AS TUITION FOR OUR STUDENTS, IT SITS RIGHT AT $6,195.

AND THAT IS FOR FALL SPRING.

SO WE SIT BASICALLY RIGHT UNDER THE $11,000 MARK FOR ANY STUDENT THAT WOULD BASICALLY BE AN OFF CAMPUS STUDENT.

THE BEAUTIFUL THING ABOUT PARKMAN COLLEGES, THE FACT THAT YOU DO SEE THAT OUR TOTAL COST PER YEAR IS AS LOW AS IT IS, BUT IT ALSO IS ONE OF THOSE THINGS WHERE OUR STUDENTS ACTUALLY GET TO GRADUATE WITH LESS THAN 10 THOUSAND DOLLARS IN STUDENT DEBT.

WE'RE ACTUALLY NAMED NUMBER SEVEN IN THE NATION FOR ACTUALLY GRADUATING STUDENTS WITH LITTLE TO NO STUDENT DEBT ON THE TOP 50 SCHOOLS.

SO WE DEFINITELY LOVE THE FACT THAT WE WERE ABLE TO ACTUALLY DO THAT.

AND THE WAY THAT WE DO THAT IS THROUGH OUR URBAN COLLEGE URBAN WORK COLLEGE DESIGNATION.

SO BASICALLY, OUR STUDENTS GET A CHANCE TO, LIKE I SAID, NOT ONLY HAVE A TUITION THAT IS BROUGHT DOWN, BUT THEY'RE ALSO GETTING A CHANCE TO TAKE PART IN OUR URBAN WORK COLLEGE MODEL, AND ALSO HAVE TO WISHIN FUNDS THAT ARE ACTUALLY PAID DIRECTLY THROUGH THOSE SPONSORSHIPS FROM THE ACTUAL COLLEGE, OR FROM THOSE ACTUAL EMPLOYER, EXCUSE ME.

SO ADMISSIONS KNEES AND CRITERIA.

SO WE DO REQUEST FOR A MINIMUM 2.75 COLLEGE CUMULATIVE GPA ON A 4.0 SCALE.

AND OF COURSE, YOU NEED TO BE IN GOOD ACADEMIC AND FINANCIAL STANDING AT ANY OF THE PREVIOUS INSTITUTIONS THAT YOU MAY HAVE ATTENDED, IF THERE ARE MORE THAN ONE.

ALSO, OUR APPLICATION IS 100% FREE AND CAN BE ACCESSED FROM OUR ADMISSIONS PAGE.

THE ADDITIONAL ITEMS THAT WE ACTUALLY REQUEST, AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, YOUR APPLICATION OUTSIDE OF YOUR APPLICATION, EXCUSE ME, ARE GOING TO BE YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS FROM ANY INSTITUTION.

SO LET'S SAY THAT MAYBE YOU DIDN'T ACTUALLY START AT ONE OF THE DALLAS COLLEGES, AND YOU WERE AT ANOTHER INSTITUTION AND THEN YOU CAME, YOU KNOW, AND STAYED IN DALLAS AND WANTED TO GO TO DALLAS COLLEGE, WE WOULD NEED ANY OF THOSE ACTUAL OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS SENT DIRECTLY TO THE COLLEGE.

NOW, WE ALSO REQUEST A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE ARE AN URBAN WORK COLLEGE MOTTO, WE BASICALLY USE THOSE LETTER RECOMMENDATIONS KIND OF AS A REFERENCE CALL.

SO WE'RE NOT ACTUALLY HAVING TO CALL EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT ACTUALLY APPLIES, YOU KNOW, AND CALL EACH OF THE REFERENCES, BUT WE UTILIZE THOSE LETTER RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THAT.

ALSO, WE DO REQUEST A RESUME BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF THERE ARE JOBS THAT WE HAVE, THAT COULD ACTUALLY CLOSELY IDENTIFY YOU WITH AN ACTUAL POSITION THAT IS A PART OF THE PROGRAM.

THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE LIKE TO SEE, YOU KNOW, WITH THE STUDENT BE IN OUR ON CAMPUS PROGRAM FOR MAYBE A SEMESTER OR TWO AND THEN GO STRAIGHT INTO OUR CORPORATE WORK PROGRAM WHERE THEY ARE WORKING IN ONE OF THE JPMORGAN CHASE, NTT DATA SERVICES, AT&T, OR ANY OF THE OTHER ACTUAL PARTNERS THAT WE HAVE.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE EITHER HAVE OUR APPLICATION VIDEO OR A PHONE INTERVIEW WITH AN ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT PROFESSIONAL, PROFESSIONAL, EXCUSE ME.

ALSO, ANOTHER THING, TOO, IS A POC ON COLLEGE, ALTHOUGH WE ARE A PRIVATE INSTITUTION, WE DO ACTUALLY HAVE A DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE SCHOLARSHIP THAT IS APPLICABLE TO STUDENTS THAT ACTUALLY COME TO US WITH THAT 3.0 MINIMUM GPA ON THAT 4.0 SCALE, THEY ALSO HAVE TO BE FULL PELL ELIGIBLE, AS WELL AS YOUR REQUIREMENTS, YOU'RE AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES SO THAT YOU CAN BE A PART OF THE ACTUAL WORK PROGRAM, AND THEN YOU HAVE TO COMMIT TO LIVING OFF CAMPUS, AND THEN YOU ALSO WOULD THEN BASICALLY PUT IN FOR THAT, AND THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD DO AND COMPLETE THE REVIEW FOR IT.

AND THEN THAT WOULD BE ACTUALLY A FULL RIDE TO OUR INSTITUTION.

SO BASICALLY, ALL YOU HAVE TO HAVE IS THAT 3.0 GPA BE HAVING THOSE CREDIT HOURS COMING OVER TO US FROM DALLAS COUNTY, SHUT DOWN DALLAS COLLEGES, EXCUSE ME, SORRY, I'M STILL GETTING USED TO AND CONDITIONING MYSELF.

I APOLOGIZE.

BECAUSE WHEN I WENT TO ORIGINALLY, IT WAS STILL, YOU KNOW, PART OF GCC V.

SO WORK WITH ME HERE.

SORRY ABOUT THAT.

BUT YEAH, SO ALL YOU BASICALLY WOULD NEED WOULD BE THOSE STIPULATIONS, AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE REVIEWED FOR.

OF COURSE, AS IT'S BEEN SAID AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SESSION, YOU KNOW, WE DEFINITELY WOULD NEED THAT FASTER TO BE COMPLETED.

AND WE ACTUALLY DO HAVE A REALLY EASY WAY FOR STUDENTS TO COMPLETE THEIR FASTBOOT THROUGH A PROGRAM THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE WHERE STUDENTS ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE THEIR FASFA IN 12 TO 15 MINUTES.

THAT'S FOR BRAND NEW STUDENTS APPLYING TO US.

LASTLY, JUST WANT TO INTRODUCE MY DIRECTOR AS WELL.

SO IT IS GOING TO PROBABLY NEED ME THAT YOU WOULD BE TALKING TO AS FAR AS YOU KNOW YOUR ACTUAL PHONE CALLS THAT MAY COME INTO THE COLLEGE AGAIN MY NAME IS TAYLOR HENLEY AND THIS IS OUR DIRECTOR OF ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT SEAN WITTEN.

I WILL ALSO BE PLACING MY CONTACT INFORMATION IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT YOU GUYS HAVE QUESTIONS IN REGARDS TO OR ANYTHING ELSE OF THAT NATURE DEFINITELY GET THAT ANSWERED.

AND THEN LASTLY, IF YOU WANT TO WIN COME TO PAUL QUINN AND IT IS AN AMAZING THING TO BE A WEEKNIGHT DURING THESE TIMES.

I MEAN THERE'S SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON FOR OUR COLLEGE AND

[02:20:02]

AT THE END OF THE DAY TO BE A PART OF IT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL THING YOU KNOW LIKE I SAID I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE FROM GRADUATING AND HAVING MY AT THE TIME OF COURSE ORIGINALLY COLLEGE DEGREE BACK IN 2008 SITTING IN MY ROOM ON MY SHOW AND THEN TRANSFERRING TO PQ SEE IT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING THING JUST BECAUSE THE FEELING OF FAMILY IS THERE THE FEELING THAT I'M NOT JUST AN ID NUMBER I'M NOT JUST YOU KNOW ANOTHER STUDENT ON CAMPUS.

I'M A NAME I'M TAYLOR HENLEY AND I HAVE TRANSFERRED OVER FROM YOU KNOW, ORIGINALLY COLLEGE AT THE TIME AND BASICALLY GOT A CHANCE TO HAVE THAT SMALL CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT AND STILL HAVE SO MANY EXPERIENCES THAT I'M SO GLAD THAT I WAS ABLE TO HAVE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

AND I WILL GO AHEAD AND THROW IT TO THE NEXT PERSON.

THANKS SO MUCH.

I'M JUST WAITING FOR PERMISSION TO SHARE MY CONTENT AS WELL.

CAN YOU ALL SEE THIS PRESENTATION? I'LL TAKE THAT AS A YES.

THANK YOU.

OKAY, SO MY NAME IS CALEB SIMMONS.

I'M ACTUALLY A GRADUATE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS AT DALLAS AND ALSO BE PRESENTING FOR A UNIVERSITY NOTE $6.

INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH, WE ARE LOCATED NEAR PAUL QUINN, AND THAT WAS A GREAT PRESENTATION.

ONE INTERESTING FACT ABOUT MYSELF IS I WAS THE LAST GRADUATE SPEAKER COMMENCEMENT SPEAKER FOR UNIVERSAL NO TEXAS AT DALLAS IN FALL 2019 BEFORE COVID STARTED.

SO LET'S GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED.

SO AGAIN, WE ARE THE UNIVERSE IN NORTH TEXAS AT DALLAS UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS.

I DO HAVE SINCE COVID STARTED, I DO HAVE A SMALL TOUR VIDEO OF STUDENTS ALWAYS WANTS TO KNOW WHAT WE LOOK LIKE.

I DON'T KNOW IF THE SOUNDS GONNA PLAY, BUT WE CAN TRY IT OUT.

IF NOT.

CAN Y'ALL HEAR THAT? NO, I CAN'T HEAR THE VIDEO.

THAT'S TRAGIC.

FOR MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE PUTTING YOUR SOUND SETTINGS TO ACTUALLY PLAY THE SOUND THAT'S ON YOUR ACTUAL SLIDE.

THAT'S SOMETHING YOU WOULD DO DURING IT FOR THE PRESENTATION.

SO YEAH, IF YOU'RE MORE OPTIONS, TYPICALLY, I THINK IT'S MORE OPTIONS THAT YOU WOULD MAKE SURE TO SHARE THE SOUND THAT'S ACTUALLY PLAYING ON YOUR LAPTOP OR YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN.

I'M NOT SEEING OPTION.

SO IT'S GONE TO THE THREE DOTS.

THE THREE DOTS.

NOT.

YEAH, ON THAT ACTUAL WEBEX PANEL, THERE'S YOUR MUTE BUTTON, YOUR START VIDEO, AND THEN THERE'S JUST THREE DOTS THERE.

AND THAT'S WHERE YOU'LL FIND THE OPTIONS MORE OPTIONS.

YEAH, I SEE.

I'M NOT SEEING THE FOUND ONE.

AND THAT'S FINE.

WE CAN MOVE ON FROM THIS VIDEO.

IT WAS JUST A INTERESTING VIDEO ABOUT WHAT OUR CAMPUS LOOKS LIKE TODAY COMPARED TO WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE BEFORE WE GREW.

SO WHEREAS DOING TO US, YOU CAN SEE DALLAS IS FIRST HILLTOP OVERLOOKING THE DOWNTOWN SKYLINE.

WE ARE FOUR UNIVERSITY IN THE CITY OF DALLAS SERVING THE DFW AREA.

WE ARE NUMBER ONE AND JOB MARKET IN AMERICA.

ACCORDING TO FORBES, UN SAS HAS SERVED AS A PATHWAY TO SOCIAL MOBILITY SINCE ITS ESTABLISHMENT IN 2010.

INTERESTING FACT SOME STUDENTS DO GET US MIXED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS THAT IS LOCATED AND THEN WE SEPARATED FROM THEM AND THE YEAR OF 2015.

NEXT I SEE I STARTED AT UNC.

SO WE ARE A PROUD MEMBER OF THE UNC SYSTEM AS A WHOLE.

SOME BLAZING FAST FACTS.

WE ARE THE FASTEST UNIVERSITY IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

WE ARE VERY SMALL SCHOOL OUR STUDENTS TO FACULTY RATIO 17 TO ONE.

SO AS A STUDENT COMING FROM UT DALLAS, MOST OF OUR CLASSES HAVE AT A MAX OF 35 STUDENTS.

SO I ALWAYS TRY TO TELL OUR STUDENTS THAT, HEY, IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A SMALLER COMMUNITY, YOU'RE NOT LOOKING FOR A COLLEGE THAT HAS OVER 400 500 STUDENTS IN THE CLASS YOU CAN SEE DALLAS IS A GREAT OPTION FOR YOU.

WHERE WE DO SERVE A DIVERSE STUDENT BODY WE COMPROMISED 78% OF MINORITY STUDENTS AND WE USUALLY TYPICALLY TRY TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY AND WE ARE LOCATED IN THE COMMUNITY WITH A HIGH HIGH DIVERSITY.

AND WE ARE THE NUMBER ONE MOST AFFORDABLE UNIVERSITY IN THE DFW WE'LL TALK ABOUT

[02:25:04]

THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER.

WE ALSO AS FORMER PRESENT TODAY WE ARE AT DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE PARTNERS AS WELL.

SO IF YOU TAKE THAT PLEDGE AND YOU WANT TO COME TO OUR COLLEGE TO YOUR TUITION AND YOUR TUITION IS PAID THIS YEAR WAS THE START OF OUR ATHLETIC PROGRAM AND ALLOW STUDENTS TO LOOK TO ADD LEGS WHEN THEY WANT TO WHEN THEY'RE LOOKING FOR SCHOLARSHIPS WHEN THEY GO TO COLLEGE AND THEY'RE LOOKING FOR OPTIONS.

SO ISSUE FOR FALL 2020.

WE STARTED CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK MEN'S BASKETBALL, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL AND WE ALSO STARTED ESPORTS AS YOU CAN SEE, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ANY OF THESE APPLY FOR ANY OF THESE SPORTS ARE TRYING OUT OUR MISSING INBOXES OR EMAILS, THEY'RE LOCATED ON THE SCREEN ADMISSIONS@UNC.EDU.

SO I MISSED THOSE REQUIREMENTS HAVE CHANGED DUE TO COVID, WE HAD TO MAKE A QUICK, EVERYBODY I KNOW EVERYBODY HAD TO CHANGE QUICKLY, WE HAD TO CHANGE AS WELL.

SO LOOK AT ON THE SCREEN, IF YOU ARE IN THE TOP 30%, WE'RE NOT REQUIRING YOU TO HAVE A MINIMUM SI T OR AC T TEST SCORE.

AGAIN, AS WELL.

IF YOU ARE YOU HAVE THAT 3.0 ON A FOUR TO FOUR POINT ON A 4.0 SCALE, YOU WON'T NEED A SH T OR AC T SCORE TO BE AUTOMATICALLY IMMEDIATE OR ASSURED ADMISSIONS TO OUR CAMPUS.

AND WE ASK THOSE WHO FALL BELOW THAT 3.0 TO AT LEAST HAVE A 1020 OR A 20 ON THE AC T.

AND IF A STUDENT DOES NOT MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS, THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSIONS, WE'RE JUST GOING TO ASK FOR SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTS SUCH AS A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION RESUME ANY REWARDS THAT YOU'RE RECEIVING ON CAMPUS, THAT'S SOMETHING TO GET TO KNOW THE STUDENTS THAT WERE ADMITTED TO THE COLLEGE.

SO AGAIN, THAT'S IT IT SAYS SCORES ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION.

BUT THESE THESE ARE REQUIRED FOR A MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIPS, AND WE'LL GO OVER SCHOLARSHIPS LATER IN THE PRESENTATION.

SO AGAIN, TALKING ABOUT TUITION, OUR TUITION PER YEAR IS AROUND $9,139 AS THE TOTAL COST PER YEAR.

SO IF YOU WANT TO DO THE MATH, THAT'S ABOUT 40 $500 A SEMESTER.

SO WE MAY CAUSE AFFORDABLE AND WON'T LEAVE YOU BURIED IN DEBT.

AGAIN YOU INSTALL US IS THE NUMBER ONE AFFORDABILITY AND THE DALLAS FORT WORTH AND WE'RE RANKED NATIONALLY, WE'RE NUMBER THREE FOR LOWEST STUDENT LOAN DEBT.

I KNOW PAUL QUINN IS ALSO RANKED AND AS A GREAT OPTION FOR COLLEGE IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO NOT BE IN DEBT.

SO STATE AND FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID, YOUR FIRST STEP TOWARDS PAYING FOR COLLEGE IS COMPLETING YOUR FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION ONLINE AND CAN FIND APPLICATIONS OPEN LIKE THEY SAID PREVIOUSLY, AND THE OTHER PRESENTATIONS OPEN STARTING OCTOBER 3 AND ALL OF ALL OF THESE COLLEGES, WE ALL ASK YOU TO COMPLETE THAT AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE.

AS YOU CAN MEET PRIORITY, YOU CAN MEET THE PRIORITY DEADLINE FOR SOME SCHOLARSHIPS OR CERTAIN COLLEGES.

AGAIN, IF YOU WANT ANY INFORMATION FOR ANY OF THIS@UNC.US, YOU WILL GO TO THE LINK THAT IS IN THE PRESENTATION, FIND A.UNC.EDU SLASH SCHOLARSHIPS, AND ANY SCHOLARSHIPS THAT WE OFFER WILL BE LOCATED ON THEIR WEBSITE.

ALL SCHOLARSHIPS AGAIN ARE MERIT BASED MEANING YOUR APPLICATION TO UNC DOLLARS IS YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP YOU DON'T NEED TO SEPARATELY APPLY FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS.

AS LONG AS YOU MEET THE DEADLINE AND YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS.

THESE ALL THESE SCHOLARSHIPS BE AUTOMATICALLY OFFERED TO YOU.

SO A FEW MORE UPDATES FOR COVID.

TESTING AS AGAIN AS IT IS HE HAS BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

AP EXAMS WE MODIFY THE MINISTER ONLINE AT HOME.

THE TSI ONLINE WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLINE, WE USUALLY DO TSI ON CAMPUS, WE NOW ALLOW STUDENTS TO DO THAT REMOTELY SEEING THAT THEY'D BE MONITORED.

AND SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE DOING ADMISSIONS APPLICATION PROCESSING WE DO TAKE ELECTRONIC TRANSCRIPTS.

SO IF YOU ARE A STUDENT THAT IS COMING FROM YOUR YOUR HIGH SCHOOL OR IF YOU'RE TRANSFERRING FROM A DALLAS COLLEGE TO SEE US AS EXAMPLE, WE TAKE THOSE TO A PLATFORM CALLED GREEN LIGHT AND YOU CAN UPLOAD YOUR TRANSCRIPT FROM ANY OF THE SCHOOLS THAT YOU HAVE ATTENDED.

AND YOU CAN SEND THEM STRAIGHT TO US VIA ELECTRONICALLY OR YOU CAN SEND THOSE IN THE MAIL.

WE DO HAVE TEST SCORES SUBMISSION ALTERNATIVES.

AGAIN, THAT'D BE SH T OR YOUR AC T AND YOUR AP EXAMS. AND THEN AGAIN WITH A SUPPLEMENTAL DOCUMENTS, SUCH AS YOUR LETTERMAN, RECOMMENDATIONS, ESSAYS, YOUR AFFIDAVITS, IF YOU WANT TO BECOMING AN ADMITTED STUDENT, WE TOOK THAT TAKE THOSE ELECTRONICALLY AND THOSE CAN COME FROM YOUR COUNSELORS OR ANY REPRESENTATIVE AT THE CAMPUS THAT YOU'RE COMING FROM.

AND SOMETHING NEW THIS YEAR, WE ARE NOT REQUIRING AN APPLICATION FEE.

WE KNOW THIS IS COVID THERE ARE FINANCIAL LAWS.

SO TO APPLY TEXAS, WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR APPLICATION FEE.

APPLICATION IS FREE STARTING FALL 2020.

AND OUR ADMISSIONS DATES AND DEADLINES THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION AND ALL

[02:30:04]

DOCUMENTS WILL FALL 2021 WILL BE AUGUST 26 2021.

THAT'S AROUND TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE START OF CLASS.

SO WE GIVE STUDENTS ALMOST A YEAR TO TURN IN THE DOCUMENTS TO RECEIVE OUR MISSIONS.

AND OUR SCHOLARSHIP PARTY JANUARY 15 2021.

SO FAST OPENS OCTOBER 1, YOU HAVE A AMPLE AMOUNT OF TIME TO TURN YOUR DOCUMENTS TO MEET THE SCHOLARSHIP ALREADY.

AND THAT'S JUST A FIRST COME FIRST SERVE THEIR LINE.

SO EVEN IF YOU COULD TURN YOUR DOCUMENTS AFTER YOUR SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION AFTER THE DOW YOU COULD STILL BE CONSIDERED.

AND THEN OUR FIRST DAY OF CLASS WILL START AUGUST 23 2021.

FOR THE SPRING, I KNOW WE WILL DO WE WILL BE REMOTE FOR SPRING 2021 JUST BECAUSE OF COVID.

WE ARE SENDING OUT THOSE UPDATES AS WE GET THOSE.

SO I DON'T I DO LEAVE THE FLOOR OPEN FOR Q&A IF THERE'S ANY IN THE CHAT.

AND I'LL LEAVE MY INFORMATION IN THE CHAT AS WELL.

AGAIN, I AM CALEB SIMMONS.

I'M A RECENT GRAD AT UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS DALLAS.

I'M HAPPY TO BE HERE.

I ALSO DID GO ATTEND DALLAS COLLEGE WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL AS A I GOT MY ASSOCIATE DEGREE FROM DALLAS CAUSES AS WELL WE IT WAS D TRIPLE CD WHEN I WAS THERE.

SO THAT AS WELL AS A GREAT OPTION IF YOU WANT THAT.

YOU'RE TRYING TO GO FOR THAT TWO YEAR ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.

THANK YOU.

I WILL TYPE MY INFORMATION IN THE CHAT.

AS WELL AS MY GOOGLE VOICE PHONE NUMBER IS NOT ALLOW ME TO TYPE IN THE CHAT.

THERE WE GO.

ALL RIGHT.

AWESOME.

THANK YOU, CALEB.

SO MY NAME IS MICHAEL KLINK.

I AM AN ADMISSIONS COUNSELOR WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS.

AND NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH U AND T AT DALLAS.

WE ARE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS AND WE ARE LOCATED IN DENTON, TEXAS, WHICH IS ABOUT 3045 MINUTES NORTH OF DALLAS 3045 MINUTES NORTH OF FORT WORTH.

AND SO I'M AN ADMISSIONS OFFICER WITH YOU INTO UT YOU CAN FIND MY EMAIL ADDRESS THERE AND YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO JOT THAT DOWN AND SHOOT ME AN EMAIL AT ANY TIME.

I'D BE HAPPY TO HELP YOU WITH ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU HAVE TO GO EAGLES.

THAT'S RIGHT.

YEAH, SO WE ARE THE UMT.

EVEN TEAM MEAN CREAM OR EAGLES.

TECHNICALLY, WE ARE THE MEAN GREEN.

OUR MASCOT, HOWEVER IS AN EVIL.

HIS NAME IS SCRAPPY.

AND HERE'S JUST SOME GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS.

SO WE'RE ESTABLISHED IN 1890 OVER A HARDWARE STORE ON THE TOWN SQUARE.

TOWN SQUARE IS KIND OF ONE OF OUR CENTRALIZED LOCATIONS HERE IN DENTON, TEXAS.

WE BECAME THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS IN 1988.

AND WE ARE THE UNIT AS I SAID BEFORE YOU T MEAN GREEN, AND OUR MASCOT IS EAGLE OUR COLORS ARE GREEN AND WHITE, AS YOU CAN PROBABLY SEE BY MY POWERPOINT AND ALSO THE POLO THAT I'M WEARING.

WE ARE A FOUR YEAR PUBLIC UNIVERSITY.

THEN WE ARE ONE OF THE LARGER UNIVERSITIES IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

SO WE HAVE ABOUT 40,000 STUDENTS ON OUR CAMPUS NOW, SO STEADILY GROWING YEAR AFTER YEAR.

AND WE ARE A TIER ONE RESEARCH INSTITUTION, SO ONE OF ABOUT 115 IN THE NATION, AND ONLY A HANDFUL IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN RESEARCH, AND WE ARE ALSO A HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTE, SO WE ACTUALLY RECEIVED THAT DESIGNATION STARTING THIS YEAR.

AND SOMETHING WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF AT UNC IS OUR DIVERSITY, OUR INCLUSION AND THE CULTURE THAT WE HAVE ON THE UNC CAMPUS.

SO JUST TALK ABOUT THE DFW METROPLEX A LITTLE BIT OF I'M SURE THAT MOST OF YOU WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH THE DFW METROPLEX.

HOWEVER, IT'S IMPORTANT TO BRING OUT BECAUSE U AND T IS CLOSE TO BOTH THE DALLAS AND

[02:35:02]

FORT WORTH.

SO WE KIND OF HAVE TIES TO BOTH OF THOSE.

WE HAVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH A LOT OF THE MAJOR.

A LOT OF THE MAJOR COMPANIES IN THE DFW AREA SUCH AS AMAZON, FIDELITY, TOYOTA, JUST TO NAME A FEW OF THOSE, WE ACTUALLY HAVE AN EXCLUSIVE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DALLAS COWBOYS AS WELL.

HOWEVER ONCE LI I LIKE TO POINT OUT FOR OUR STUDENTS IS THAT WE WERE THE DFW METROPLEX HAS BEEN DESIGNATED THE BEST JOB MARKET IN THE COUNTRY BY THE US BUREAU OF LABOR AND STATISTICS.

SO WHETHER YOU ATTEND AND YOU EMPTY OR ANY OF THE FANTASTIC DALLAS SCHOOLS, DFW SCHOOLS, YOU ARE IN A GREAT PLACE TO GET A INTERNSHIP, GET A JOB, ONCE YOU GRADUATE, I'M REALLY IN A FANTASTIC PLACE IN THE, IN THE US AGAIN, FOR A LOT OF STUDENTS ARE WORRIED ABOUT YOU KNOW GETTING A JOB ONCE THEY GRADUATE, TRUST ME, YOU'RE IN A GREAT PLACE.

SO U AND T OFFERS 105 UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS AND OVER 230 DEGREES TOTAL.

SO WE HAVE GRADUATE PROGRAMS AS WELL.

AND THOSE THOSE PROGRAMS ARE SPREAD OVER 14 DIFFERENT COLLEGES.

SO YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAVE DEGREES IN EDUCATION, WE HAVE DEGREES IN ENGINEERING, BUSINESS JOURNALISM, VISUAL ARTS AND DESIGN, MUSIC IS A BIG ONE FOR US.

WE'RE VERY WELL KNOWN FOR MUSIC PROGRAMS AT UNC.

BUT WE ARE, AGAIN, WE'RE A TIER ONE RESEARCH INSTITUTION.

SO THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOU IN THE ENGINEERING FIELDS IN THE SCIENCE FIELDS, IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU'RE INTERESTED IN, WE DO HELP SO HAVE PRE MED AND PRE LAW TRACKS SHOULD YOU WANT TO GO THAT ROUTE.

AND WE ALSO HAVE A HONORS COLLEGES.

SO IF YOU WANT TO IF YOU'RE ONE OF OUR HIGH ACHIEVING STUDENTS, YOU WANT SOME ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOLARSHIPS, THINGS LIKE THAT, THEN YOU CAN JOIN OUR HONORS COLLEGE AS WELL.

SO ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THINGS, CAMPUS LIFE, SO WE HAVE OVER 400 STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS ON OUR CAMPUS, WE'VE GOT, YOU KNOW, OUR PRIDE ALLIANCE, THE MULTICULTURAL CENTER, WE HAVE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATIONS, YOU MAYBE YOU WANT TO JOIN THE REAL ESTATE CLUB, MAYBE YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING MORE ON THE FUN SIDE, JOIN THE INTRAMURALS BE A PART OF INTRAMURALS OR OUR ESPORTS TEAM.

WE ALSO HAVE GREEK LIFE AS WELL ON OUR CAMPUS.

WE ALSO HAVE, YOU KNOW, YOUR TYPICAL COLLEGE EXPERIENCE.

SO WE HAVE RESIDENCE HALLS, DINING HALLS AS WELL.

TYPICALLY STUDENTS WOULD BE REQUIRED TO LIVE ON CAMPUS THEIR FIRST YEAR.

AND THEN AFTER THAT THEY CAN GO WHERE THEY CHOOSE IF THEY WOULD LIKE TO COMMUTE.

OR IF YOU'RE A GRADUATE, OR EXCUSE ME, AN UPPERCLASSMAN OR EVEN A GRADUATE STUDENT, YOU CAN STAY ON CAMPUS, WE HAVE DORMS FOR YOU AS WELL.

SO THERE'S A LOT GOING ON AND EAT AT UNC.

AND WE FEEL LIKE THERE'S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE ON OUR CAMPUS TO GET INVOLVED IN.

BUT IF YOU FIND THAT ONE OF OUR 400 ORGANIZATIONS DOESN'T FIT YOU, THEN YOU CAN GET A GROUP OF FRIENDS TOGETHER, FIND A FACULTY MEMBER AND START YOUR OWN ORGANIZATION FAIRLY EASILY.

SO WE HAVE A LOT OF RESOURCES TO HELP OUR STUDENTS SUCCEED ON OUR CAMPUS.

SO WE HAVE A COUNSELING AND TESTING CENTER.

AND MAYBE YOU'RE HAVING ISSUES IN CLASS OR OUTSIDE OF CLASS AND YOU NEED FREE COUNSELING, WE HAVE A CAREER CENTER.

SO THE CAREER CENTER IS THERE TO HELP OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE ON CAMPUS, MAYBE THEY NEED HELP GETTING AN ON CAMPUS JOB.

BUT IT'S ALSO FOR OUR ALUMNI, MAYBE YOU HAVE GRADUATED, YOU'RE NEEDING HELP GETTING A JOB, THEY HAVE ASSISTANTS, THEY CAN HELP YOU BRUSH UP YOUR RESUME, MAYBE YOU WANT TO DO A MOCK INTERVIEW, MAYBE YOU HAVE TROUBLE IN INTERVIEWS, THEY CAN HELP YOU OUT WITH THAT AS WELL.

SO IT'S FREE TO ALL OF OUR CURRENT STUDENTS AND OUR ALUMNI TO HELP THEM GET A JOB.

WE ALSO HAVE STUDENT VETERANS SERVICES.

SO IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE USING THOSE VETERANS BENEFITS, THEY CAN HELP YOU OUT WITH THAT, AND A HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER.

SO, THEY ARE DOING COVID TESTING FOR OUR STUDENTS.

THEY ALSO YOU KNOW, IF YOU JUST GET SICK WITH ANYTHING OR YOU FALL AND HURT, YOU KNOW, HURT YOUR ARM OR SOMETHING, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN GO AND SEE THEM THERE.

WE DO HAVE AN AVERAGE CLASS SIZE OF ABOUT 26 STUDENTS.

SO WE DO YOU KNOW, WE HAVE YOUR WE HAVE YOUR TYPICAL, YOU KNOW, NEAR LECTURE HALL STYLE COURSES, YOU KNOW, THE UPWARDS OF 100 200 STUDENTS AND IN SOME OF THOSE CLASSES.

HOWEVER, ONCE YOU GET DOWN INTO YOUR MAJOR, YOU WILL SEE THAT THE CLASS SIZE REALLY STARTS TO SHRINK.

AND YOU START TO YOU KNOW, GET THAT MORE PERSONALIZED EXPERIENCE.

SO, WE DO HAVE ATHLETICS AS WELL.

WE HAVE, WE ARE A DIVISION ONE SCHOOL WHEN IT COMES TO ATHLETICS.

WE HAVE 16 NCAA TEAMS, INCLUDING FOOTBALL, BASKETBALL, OUR WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM IS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE NATION, CROSS COUNTRY.

AND WE ALSO HAVE A FANTASTIC CROSS COUNTRY TEAM AS WELL.

[02:40:04]

YOU CAN SEE WE'VE HAD SOME RECENT SUCCESS IN ATHLETICS, AND WE'RE VERY PROUD ABOUT THAT.

AND IT IS FREE FOR OUR STUDENTS TO ATTEND ANY OF THE ATHLETIC GAMES, FOOTBALL GAMES, BASKETBALL GAMES, YOU JUST SHOW UP WITH YOUR ID, AND YOU CAN GET IN AND ATTEND TO ONE OF THOSE.

SO HERE IS OUR ANNUAL COST OF ATTENDANCE.

SO THIS WOULD BE FOR A YEAR, IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT EVERYTHING TOGETHER, RIGHT? SO WHENEVER YOU GO TO SCHOOL, YOU'RE NOT JUST PAYING TUITION.

IF YOU'RE NOT JUST PAYING FOR YOUR HOUSING, OKAY, YOU HAVE TO BUY BOOKS YOU GOTTA PAY TO PUT GAS IN YOUR CAR, YOU GOT TO PAY TO BUY TOILET PAPER FOR YOUR DORM ROOM, YOU KNOW EVERYTHING ALL TOGETHER, RIGHT? SO THAT'S WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE COST OF ATTENDANCE BEING AROUND $26,000 A YEAR.

YOU CAN SEE I LIKE TO POINT STUDENTS MORE IF THEY'RE LIKE, WELL, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST, RIGHT? TUITION AND FEES, IT'S GOING TO BE AROUND 12 TO $13,000 A YEAR FOR STUDENTS DEPENDING ON YOU KNOW, THEIR MAJOR AND HOW MANY HOURS THAT THEY'RE TAKING, AND THEN ROOM AND BOARD, THAT'S GOING TO INCLUDE YOUR DORM, IT'S ALSO GOING TO INCLUDE YOUR MEAL PLAN, IT'S GOING TO BE ABOUT $10,000 A YEAR.

SO YOU CAN KIND OF SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE.

AND THIS IS FOR IN STATE RESIDENCY, AND IS BASED OFF A 15 CREDIT HOURS.

SO IF YOU TAKE MORE, YOU TAKE LESS, YOU CAN KIND OF GUESSTIMATE THAT IT WOULD, IT WOULD CHANGE A LITTLE BIT.

AND OF COURSE, TO HELP YOU OUT WITH THAT THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR FINANCIAL AID, SUCH AS SUBMITTING THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID OR THE FASFA.

SOME OF OUR OTHER PRESENTERS TALKED ABOUT THAT, OF COURSE, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMIND YOU ABOUT THAT.

SO THAT BECOMES AVAILABLE ON OCTOBER 1.

SO OUR SENIORS, YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND COMPLETE THAT NOW FOR YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR OF COLLEGE.

AND THE UMTS PRIORITY DATE FOR THAT IS JANUARY 15.

AND YOU CAN ALSO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS.

SO WE DO REQUIRE A SEPARATE APPLICATION FOR SCHOLARSHIPS.

BUT THAT IS BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHER SCHOLARSHIPS THAT ARE BUILT INTO THAT APPLICATION.

SO WE WANT YOU TO COMPLETE THAT TO APPLY FOR OUR JET BAR MERIT BASED SCHOLARSHIPS.

BUT THERE ARE ALSO GOING TO BE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES IN THERE.

AND THAT NORMALLY BECOMES AVAILABLE IN OCTOBER.

IT'S NOT AVAILABLE YET, BUT IT WILL BE HOPEFULLY LATER IN THE MONTH OR EARLY IN NOVEMBER.

AND THE DEADLINE TO COMPLETE THAT IS MARCH 1.

SO JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU GET THAT YOU APPLY AND GET ACCEPTED AND COMPLETE THAT APPLICATION BEFORE MARCH.

SO HERE ARE OUR GUARANTEED ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS.

WE WILL BE TEST OPTIONAL STARTING IN FALL 2021.

SO YOU DO NOT NEED TO SUBMIT A TEST SCORE.

OR YOU CAN SEE THAT IF YOU DO HAVE A TEST SCORE, AND WE ALSO LOOK AT YOUR CLASS RANK, IF YOU'RE IN THE TOP 10% AUTOMATIC ADMIT, IN THE TOP 25%, WE DO START LOOKING AT THOSE TEST SCORES, AS AT AC T.

AND YOU CAN KIND OF SEE WHAT THOSE CATEGORIES ARE.

ALSO, IF YOU HAVE A CUMULATIVE UNWEIGHTED GPA OF 3.0 OR HIGHER, YOU WOULD BE GUARANTEED ADMISSION TO U AND T.

AND OUR SCHOLARSHIPS ARE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT THE SAME THINGS, THEY'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT YOUR RANK, THEY'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT YOUR TEST SCORES, AND ALSO THAT UNWEIGHTED GPA, SO MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE LOOKING AT.

IF YOU DON'T FALL INTO ONE OF THOSE CATEGORIES, YOU CAN STILL BE ADMITTED, NO PROBLEM.

YOU KNOW, JUST DEPENDING ON KIND OF WHERE YOU SIT, WE MAY ASK FOR SOME ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION ESSAY, THAT TYPE OF STUFF.

SO JUST BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THAT.

AND OUR PRIORITY DATE FOR APPLICATIONS IS MARCH 1.

SO WE RECOMMEND TO APPLY AND BE ADMITTED BY FEBRUARY.

AND IF YOU WANT MY PERSONAL ADVICE, I SAY DO IT BY THE END OF THE YEAR, MAKE SURE TO APPLY, GET ACCEPTED, APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS, COMPLETE THAT FASTER BY THE END OF THE YEAR.

THAT JUST MAKES IT EASY.

SO WE DO HAVE SOME PREVIEW EVENTS GOING ON.

IN FACT, WE HAVE ONE GOING ON RIGHT NOW.

SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN U AND T, YOU CAN STILL DO LATE REGISTRATION FOR THAT PREVIEW EVENT AND GET SOME MORE INFORMATION, SOME PRESENTATIONS ON ACADEMIC DEPARTMENTS, ADMISSIONS, FINANCIAL AID, HOUSING, STUDENT STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS.

SO CHECK OUT UNC PREVIEW.EDU.

OR WE DO HAVE ANOTHER ONE COMING UP IN NOVEMBER ON THE 14TH.

AND YOU CAN REGISTER ONLINE AT THE SAME WEBSITE.

AND IF YOU JUST WANT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT UNITY, YOU CAN VISIT THAT WEBSITE LISTED THERE, FILL OUT YOUR INFORMATION, AND WE'LL SEND YOU SOMETHING VIA EMAIL.

AND WE'LL ALSO SEND YOU SOME INFORMATION IN THE MAIL AND INFORMATION PACKET FOR YOU TO HAVE THAT TOO.

SO YEAH, IF YOU WANT SOME MORE INFORMATION, MAKE SURE TO FILL THAT OUT FOR US.

AND THIS IS MY CONTACT INFORMATION HERE.

SO MY AGAIN, MY NAME IS MICHAEL CLINK.

I'M ONE OF THE ADMISSIONS COUNSELORS WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS, YOU CAN SEE MY EMAIL ADDRESS AND MY OFFICE PHONE NUMBER LISTED THERE.

AS YOU CAN SEE, I'M NOT ALWAYS IN THE OFFICE DUE TO COVID.

BUT IF YOU LEAVE ME A VOICEMAIL, OR SHOOT ME AN EMAIL, I'LL BE HAPPY TO GET BACK TO YOU.

AND MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS WELL.

[02:45:03]

THAT WAY YOU CAN STAY UP TO DATE WITH WHAT'S GOING ON AT UNC.

BUT WE ALSO LIKE TO PUT REMINDERS THERE AND SAY, HEY, GUESS WHAT OUR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION IS OPEN.

MAKE SURE TO DO YOUR FAFSA, YOU KNOW THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'RE LIKE ME, BUT YOU KNOW, I'M SOMEONE WHO IF I GET AN EMAIL, I MIGHT NOT READ IT.

BUT IF I SEE SOMETHING ON SOCIAL MEDIA, MAYBE I'LL ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO IT.

SO ANYWAY, THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR FOR BEING HERE TODAY.

THANKS TO OUR OTHER PRESENTERS.

AND IF Y'ALL HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO ASK ME NOW OR YOU CAN SHOOT TO ME IN EMAIL, BE HAPPY TO GET BACK TO YOU.
