I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR CONTINUING TO DO OUTSTANDING WORK AND SUPPORTING OUR STUDENTS, OUR EMPLOYERS AND OUR COMMUNITY.

OF COURSE, EACH OTHER AS WELL.

YOU KNOW, LAST TIME WE GOT TOGETHER MORE THAN 1,300 OF YOU JOINED US FOR OUR LAST MEETING, BACK IN APRIL.

WE DISCUSSED THE DISTRICT'S ONGOING RESPONSE AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS AS IT RELATES TO HOW WE'RE DEALING WITH RETURNING TO CAMPUS HERE IN THE SHORT PERIOD OF TIME IN THE FUTURE, AS WELL AS OUR PROGRESS TOWARD BECOMING ONE COLLEGE.

SO, THE FEEDBACK WAS POSITIVE THAT MANY OF YOU LIKED THE FORMAT.

WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE WITH THAT FORMAT THIS WEEK AND WE'LL BE PERHAPS DOING A FEW THINGS DIFFERENTLY IN THE FUTURE AS WE WANT THESE TO CONTINUE.

THE LANDSCAPE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING CHANGES DRASTICALLY AND KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN CONSTANT CONVERSATION WITH LOCAL STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICIALS.

SO, YOU KNOW, CAN YOU KIND OF JUST START BY SAYING YOUR PERSPECTIVE OF WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW WITH THE COVID19 CRISIS.

I REALLY APPRECIATE RIGHT NOW, AS WE'RE MOVING FORWARD, THERE'S NOT ALWAYS CLARITY ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON AT THE STATE LEVEL WITH SOME OF THE DIRECTIVES COMING DOWN AND WHAT IS HAPPENING NATIONALLY AS WELL AS WHAT IS HAPPENING LOCALLY.

HOW DOES ALL THAT ALIGN WITH THE HELP INFORMATION THAT WE'RE RECEIVING.

SO, THE LANDSCAPE CONTINUES TO LOOK DIFFERENT.

EVERYDAY IS DIFFERENT THAN THE DAY BEFORE.

AS WE KNOW, THERE'S BEEN COMMUNICATION EXPRESSED BY GOVERNOR ABBOTT THAT WANT TO BEGIN OPENING AGAIN.

YET, WE DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT THE IMPACT THAT THAT'S GOING TO HAVE ON OUR RESIDENTS OR OUR ECONOMY.

EVEN THOUGH BARBERSHOPS ARE OPEN, NOT ALL OF US HAVE BEEN ABLE TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

WE'RE CONTINUING TO SEE THINGS HAPPENING AND YET IT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S HAPPENING EVERYWHERE.

WE'VE GOT RESTAURANTS OPENING TO 25% CAPACITY AND YET OFFICE SPACE ARE NEARLY EMPTY, EVEN THOUGH THEY CAN ALSO BE AT 25%.

THERE ARE STILL FEWER CARS ON THE ROAD ALTHOUGH CLEARLY MORE PEOPLE ARE GETTING OUT AND ABOUT.

AS WE TALK ABOUT THE IDEA OF, OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW, THERE HAVE BEEN SOME DEBATE AMONG COLLEAGUES ABOUTÂ IS IT REALLY REOPENING BECAUSE IN FACT WE CONTINUE TO SERVE STUDENTS, WE'VE CONTINUED TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY, WE'VE CONTINUED TO VOLUNTEER EVEN IN THIS NEW FORMAT TO MEET THE NEEDS.

REGARDLESS OF WHAT WE CALL IT, IT'S REALLY HOW DO WE CONTINUE TO BE PREPARED BUT ALSO JUST PRAGMATIC.

AND HOW WE'RE ABLE TO ENGAGE STUDENTS, WORK TOGETHER COLLECTIVELY AND MOST IMPORTANTLY KEEP ALL OF US REMAINING SAFE AS WE LOOK TO BOTH THE SHORTTERM AND LONGTERM FUTURE.

YOU KNOW, I THINK THE INFORMATION WE GET IS OFTEN CONFUSING BECAUSE THE MEDIA CERTAINLY WANTS TO HIGHLIGHT THINGS RETURNING TO NORMAL AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.

AT THE SAME TIME, WE ALL KNOW THAT THE RISK OF CATCHING AND SPREADING THE CORONAVIRUS IS AS GREAT AS IF NOT GREATER THAN EVER.

WE WANT TO MINIMIZE THE RISK OF OUR EMPLOYEES, STUDENTS AND EVERYONE THAT WE SERVE.

WE ALSO KNOW THAT AT LEAST 44% OF ALL INFECTIONS COME FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE ASYMPTOMATIC.

THAT REALLY CREATES CONCERN ON MY PART THAT IF THERE ARE NO SIGNS, HOW DO WE KNOW IN TERMS OF WAITING UNTIL SOMEONE SHOWS SIGNS OF THE DISEASE BEFORE WE TAKE ACTION THAT'S WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT WE CONTINUE TO SOCIAL DISTANCE, ENGAGE IN HANDWASHING AND SANITIZING AND WE'RE DOING THAT WITHIN OUR FACILITIES AS WELL.

WE'LL CONTINUE TO DO THAT EVEN AS WE BEGAN OVER TIME TO EASE UP AND BEGIN TO LET SOME FOLKS BACK IN, WHICH WE'RE STARTING AND WE'LL BE GETTING INFORMATION OUT ON THAT, AS NEEDED AND ON A PRIORITY BASIS.

KEEPING IN MIND, WE'RE GOING TO REALLY LIMIT THAT ACCESS HONORING THE COMMITMENT THAT HAS BEEN MADE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING AND NEVER HAVING LARGE NUMBERS BACK IN PLACE AGAIN.

AT THE END OF EACH OF THESE TOWN HALLS, THERE'S BEEN SURVEYS AND THE OPPORTUNITY FOR FOLKS TO SHARE THEIR THOUGHTS.

SO, CAN YOU WALK US THROUGH THE RESULTS OF THE LAST SURVEY AND PROVIDE ANY INSIGHTS ON HOW EMPLOYEES ARE FEELING SURE, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO.

FIRST I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE SURVEYS OR HAVE PARTICIPATED.

WE APPRECIATE THOSE INSIGHTS AND WE ARE USING THOSE AS WE CONTINUE TO RESPOND TO THE PANDEMIC.

SO IT IS VERY HELPFUL FOR US TO HAVE YOUR FEEDBACK ON THESE.

WE HAD A 60% RESPONSE RATE TO THE LAST SURVEY, WHICH IS FANTASTIC.

ONE OF THE FIRST QUESTIONS THAT WE ASKED WAS JUST A GENERAL OVER ALL QUESTION, HOW WORRIED WERE YOU ABOUT THE IMPACT OF COVID19 IN OUR ORGANIZATION THE RESULTS WERE VERY INTERESTING.

50% OF YOU WERE SMACKDAB IN THE MIDDLE AND SOME WERE WORRIED WITH THE REMAINING SPLIT, VERY DISTRIBUTED OVER THE VERY WORRIED OR NOT VERY WORRIED SECTOR.

SO, THAT GAVE US SOME INTERESTING INSIGHTS.

WE ALSO ASKED ABOUT THE FREQUENCY OF THE COMMUNICATIONS.

THESE TOWN HALLS OR EMAILS AND THE MAJORITY OF YOU FELT THAT ABOUT ONCE A WEEK OR ON AN ASNEEDED BASIS WAS SUFFICIENT.

ONE OF THE RESULTS I THINK THAT WE CAN ALL BE VERY PROUD OF IS THAT AN OVERWHELMING 80% WHO RESPONDED SAID YOU FELT EXTREMELY OR VERY CONFIDENT THAT YOU HAVE THE RIGHT WORK RESOURCES AND BENEFITS TO SUPPORT YOU DURING THESE TIMES.

WITH RESPECT TO WHAT YOU DID NEED TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL AND WORKING FROM HOME, IT WAS A CLARITY AROUND EXPECTATIONS.

IF YOU ARE A SUPERVISOR, LET'S BE SURE YOU SET THOSE EXPECTATIONS.

EMPLOYEES, BE SURE YOU ARE ASKING YOUR SUPERVISORS WHAT HIS OR HER EXPECTATIONS ARE.

SO, THAT WAS A GOOD IN SIGHT AS WELL THAT WE ARE UTILIZING AND MOVING FORWARD ON.

AS DR. MAY MENTIONED, AS WE ARE THINKING ABOUT RETURNING TO WORK, WE ASKED YOU WHAT SOME OF YOUR CONCERNS WERE.

THE HIGHEST PRIORITY OF ITEMS THAT YOU MENTIONED WERE RELATED TO SAFETY.

SO PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT, CLEANING PROTOCOLS, SANITIZERS AND HAND WIPES, THOSE THINGS.

I WILL TALK ABOUT SOME OF THOSE PLANS LATER TODAY BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS AROUND THAT.

OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD RECEIVED LEADING UP TO THAT WAS AROUND CONTINUING TO PAY EMPLOYEES AND SO THE BOARD TOOK YOUR RECOMMENDATION TO DO SO THROUGH AUGUSTÂ 31ST.

CAN YOU SHARE US WITH, IF YOU WILL, HOW WE REACHED THAT WILL DECISION AND WHAT GOT US TO THAT POINT CHANCELLOR J MAY SURE.

THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PANDEMIC DISCUSSION AND ALL THE ACTION THAT'S WE'VE TAKEN, OUR TOP PRIORITY IS REALLY OUR PEOPLE AND MAKING SURE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE PEOPLE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND TO CONTINUE TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.

WE REALLY TRIED TO TAKE EVERY STEP POSSIBLE, ALONG THE WAY, TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL EMPLOYEES FEEL SAFE, HEALTHY, AND SECURE.

EVEN BACK ON MARCHÂ 16TH, ONE OF THE FIRST THINGS I TOLD THE BOARD IS AS WE WERE ENTERING INTO THIS, I SAID, I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THIS IS GOING TO LAST.

IT'S UNCLEAR.

IT'S OUT THERE.

IT IS CLEAR WE NEED TO MOVE ONLINE AND WE NEED TO DO THAT VERY QUICKLY IN ORDER TO ENSURE SAFETY AND HELP EVERYONE.

I SAID I ALSO DON'T KNOW OF HOW MANY EMPLOYEES ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO WORK.

WHETHER THEY'RE FULLTIME, PARTTIME OR WORK STUDY.

I SAID AT THE TIME, I'M ASKING THE BOARD FOR THE EMERGENCY AUTHORIZATION TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DID THAT.

AND INFORM THEM WE WOULD COME BACK TO THE BOARD AT A FUTURE DATE.

WE DID THAT AT THE MOST RECENT MEETING, WHERE I SUBMITTED A RESOLUTION TO THE BOARD ASKING THAT WE CONTINUE TO PAY ALL EMPLOYEES, ACCORDING TO DISTRICT POLICY, WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE SCHEDULED TO WORK OR TEACH TO CONTINUE TO BE PAID THROUGH THE FISCAL YEARENDING AUGUSTÂ 31 AND OBVIOUSLY THAT'S WHERE ALL OF US GO THROUGH THAT RENEWAL PROCESS EACH YEAR SO IT'S NOT AN END DATE BUT IT MEANS WE HAVE THAT GUARANTEE, WHICH AS YOU KNOW, LOOKING AT HEADLINES OF PAPERS, UNFORTUNATELY A LOT OF EMPLOYERS, A LOT OF OTHER GOVERNMENTAL ENTITIES ARE NOT ABLE TO DO THAT.

I'M PROUD OF OUR BOARD AND OUR DISTRICT OF BEING ABLE TO SUPPORT EMPLOYEES DURING WHAT I KNOW IS A DIFFICULT TIME FOR THEM AND OFTEN ONE THAT CREATES ANXIETY IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT YOUR PATIENT.

ALONG THOSE LINES, I KNOW WE RECEIVED MESSAGES FROM EMPLOYEES THAT ARE APPRECIATIVE OF THAT ACTION THAT THE BOARD TOOK AND YOUR RECOMMENDATION TO THEM.

HOWEVER, QUESTIONS HAVE STILL COME IN THAT HAS PEOPLE READ SOME OF THOSE HEADLINES ABOUT WHAT OTHER INSTITUTIONS MAY HAVE TO DO IN THE WAY OF FURLOUGHS OR LAYOFFS SO WE HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT DO WE FORESEE HAVING TO OR LAYOFFS IN THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

DR. MAY AND JUST LET ME REITERATE AGAIN, AS I JUST MENTION, WE'VE GOT GREAT SUPPORT, UNANIMOUS SUPPORT FROM THE BOARD TO SUPPORT OUR EMPLOYEES AND AGAIN MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM.

YOU KNOW, THAT CAN'T BE JUST TAKEN FOR GRANTED.

THAT WAS A BIG COMMITMENT ON THE PART OF THE BOARD.

IT WAS FRANKLY A BIG COST ITEM TO CONTINUE THAT AND WITH EVERYONE UNDERSTANDING WHY THAT WAS IMPORTANT AND I BELIEVE THAT BECAUSE OF THOSE SHARED VALUES BETWEEN THE DISTRICT AND THE BOARD WERE ABLE TO DO THAT.

I'M JUST GRATEFUL FOR THE WILLINGNESS TO SUPPORT MY RECOMMENDATION, IN THIS CASE, TO ALLOW PEOPLE, EVEN WHEN THEY'RE NOT FULLY WORK REMOTELY TO CONTINUE TO GET PAID.

AND TO SOMEWHAT DEGREE, I WOULD BE SURPRISED IF IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHETHER IT'S IN THIS FISCAL START OF THE NEW YEAR, NO WAY TO KNOW, BUT, FOR THE TIME BEING, THERE'S NO PLANS OR EVEN DISCUSSIONS OF FURLOUGHS, LAYOFFS OR OTHER CONSIDERATION.

COULD THIS CHANGE IN THE FUTURE OF COURSE, I CAN'T PREDICT THE FUTURE.

IF THAT CHANGES, WE'LL COMMUNICATE WITH EVERYONE.

WE'LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT THE STATE IS DOING WITH THE BUDGET.

WHAT WE SEE WHAT HAPPENS WITH LOCAL PROPERTY TAX.

SHERRY, LET ME TURN IT BACK TO YOU, ANOTHER ITEM THAT WAS DISCUSSED LAST WEEK AT THE BOARD MEETING WAS A PHASED APPROACH TO RETURNING TO WORK AND I KNOW YOU ARE LEADING THE TEAM, ALONG WITH OTHERS, LOOKING AT THAT AND SO CAN YOU TALK US THROUGH THE PLAN, AT LEAST AT THIS POINT, AND WHAT IT COULD MEAN FOR EMPLOYEES.

ABSOLUTELY.

AND AS WE HAVE STRESSED, ALL OF OUR THINKING AROUND RETURN TO WORK IS GUIDED BY SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR THE WORKFORCE AND OUR STUDENTS.

OUR CAMPUSES ARE LIKELY TO LOOK A LITTLE DIFFERENT AS WE RETURN AND REINVENT THE TRIPLE CD.

WE WILL BE, AS JUSTIN MENTIONED, RETURNING TO WORK IN A VERY METHODICAL, MEASURED WAY.

PHASE ONE WILL CONSIST MAINLY OF THOSE ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE ALREADY BEEN ON OUR CAMPUSES AND ALREADY AT LOCATIONS PERFORMING SOME FUNCTION.

SO FACILITYTYPE FOLKS.

WE HAVE ALREADY IMPLEMENTED SEVERAL PROTOCOLS, SAFETYRELATED PROTOCOLS AND WE WILL BE IMPLEMENTING ADDITIONAL PROTOCOLS SUCH AS HEALTH SCREEN BEING, QUESTIONNAIRES AND TEMPERATURE CHECKS AS WE RETURN MORE FOLKS TO WORK.

WORE LOOKING AT HOW TECHNOLOGY CAN HELP US AND ASSIST US WITH THESE PRIORITIES THROUGH APPS OR THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

THEN MOVING FORWARD INTO PHASE 2, WE WOULD BE LOOKING AT ADDING ONLY THOSE EMPLOYEES PREPARING STAGING AREAS AND TRAFFIC FLOWS, SIGNAGE AND ENSURING SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES THAT WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED.

THEN, AS WE TEST THAT, THEY WOULD FOCUS ON THOSE EMPLOYEES CRITICAL TO SERVING OUR CONSTITUENTS.

AND WE'RE EXPLORING WHAT THOSE ROLES MAY BE.

WE DON'T HAVE A DEFINITE YESTERDAY BUT TRANSCRIPTS AND CASHIERS AND AS WE BRING LIMITED NUMBERS BACK TO OUR PHYSICAL LOCATIONS, WE WILL THEN CONTINUE TO IDENTIFY LIMITED, SMALLER GROUPS TO BRING BACK BASED ON NEEDS AND POSITION.

ONE OF THE BIG NEWS ITEMS LAST WEEK WAS RELATED TO OUR INTENT FOR THE FALL AND RELATE TODAY OUR ONLINE INSTRUCTION AND SO CAN YOU SHARE THE REASONING BEHIND THE DECISION TO REMAIN ONLINE IN THE FALL.

WE HAVE A LARGE NUMBER OF CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM.

NOT JUST IN HEALTH SCIENCE BUT A LOT OF DIFFERENT AREAS FROM AUTO MOTIVE TO MANUFACTURING, HVAC AND OTHERS.

MOST OF THOSE IT'S GOING TO BE VERY DIFFICULT FOR US NOT TO HOLD CLASSES IN THE FACETOFACE MANNER.

WE'LL DO THAT AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE.

MEANING THAT WE'LL PROBABLY NEED A LOT MORE SPACE TO SPREAD OUT SOME OF THESE PROGRAMS IN THE PAST AND WE MAY NEED TO STAGGER THE HOURS AND WORK DIFFERENTLY.

AS WE BRING PEOPLE BACK ON CAMPUS, WE ALSO HAVE TO SCREEN AND ASSURE EVERYONE'S HEALTHY AND SAFE AS THEY COME BA IN.

THERE ARE TWO WAYS TO REALLY DO THAT, YOU MAY HAVE SEEN ON THE NEWS COMPANIES THAT ARE MEETING PEOPLE IN THE PARKING LOT, THEY'VE GOT SEPARATE BUILDINGS.

THEY'RE BRINGING THEM IN AND TAKING THEIR TEMPERATURE.
