GOVERNMENT CODE 551.054
[A. Announcements from the Chancellor]
CHANCELLOR AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS, A CHANCELLOR VERY MUCH AND THANK ALL OF YOU FOR JOINING IN.WE ALSO REALLY NEED TO THANK, IN THIS CASE, GOVERNOR ABBOTT FOR COMING UP WITH A WAY FOR US TO MEET AND CONTINUE TO DO OUR BUSINESS WHICH HE GRACIOUSLY PROVIDED TO ALL THE BOARDS WHEN ASKED.
SO, AS IT IS, CERTAINLY, THIS IS A CHALLENGE TO DO THIS PART, BUT I HAVE TO SAY, IT'S ALSO OUR DAY TO DAY BUSINESS IS BASICALLY, CONDUCTED THIS WAY NOW.
AND I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL OF OUR FOLKS FROM RISING, OVER THE LAST, THREE WEEKS TO REALLY COME TOGETHER TO NOT ONLY JUST DO THE BUSINESS, BUT REALLY TO ADVANCE US IN MANY AREAS.
SO, ITÂS BEEN A GREAT TEAM EFFORT.
MADAM CHAIR MEMBER OF THE BOARD AND REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT.
I, YOU KNOW, AS WE BEGIN UP OUR STUDENTS THE SECOND WEEK OF ONLINE INSTRUCTION AND I'M REALLY ENCOURAGED TO SEE HOW SUCCESSFULLY WE'VE MANAGED OUR TRANSITION FROM ONLINE FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND STAFF.
AND WHEN WE SAID IT WOULD BE A HUNDRED PERCENT, I THINK FOLKS REALLY WONDER IF WE CAN MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
BUT IT'S BEEN A REAL EFFORT BY EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE WITH WITHIN THE DISTRICT.
REALLY HELPING US MANAGE THE CHALLENGES AND SOME OF THE OBSTACLES THAT HAVE COME UP BUT OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY RESILIENT AND CONTINUE TO BE COMMITTED BY KEEPING THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS AS THEIR MAIN PRIORITY.
AND JUST COUNTLESS EXAMPLES OF WHAT THEY'VE DONE TO REALLY ASSIST AND HELP OUR STUDENTS DURING WHAT IS A CERTAINLY A CHALLENGING TIME FOR THEM AS WELL THE SHELTER IN PLACE THE ORDER THAT WAS ISSUED BY DALLAS COUNTY JUDGE CLAY JENKINS.
AS YOU KNOW, IS CURRENTLY IN EFFECT THROUGH APRIL 30TH YET, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO REMAIN FLEXIBLE DURING THESE TIMES AND WE'RE IN, JUST AS MUCH AS WE CAN BE CONSTANT COMMUNICATION WITH STUDENTS WITH EMPLOYEES AND THE BOARD IS A SITUATION CHANGES.
AND YOU'LL HEAR LATER ON SOME OF WHAT WE'RE DOING TO MAINTAIN THESE COMMUNICATION CHANNELS AS, AS WE GO FORWARD.
I REALLY DO HAVE TO THANK ALL OUR EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE REMAIN FLEXIBLE AND PATIENT AS WE'VE NAVIGATED THROUGH THIS NEW VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT AND REALLY FINDING A WAY TO MAKE IT ALL WORK.
AND, AND LATER ON, IN THE AGENDA WILL GO INTO QUITE A BIT OF DETAIL.
[00:05:03]
I REALLY WANT TO SPEND A GREAT DEAL OF TIME LOOKING AT THE COVID-19 UPDATE.AND TALKING ABOUT THE VARIOUS TEAMS AND TASK FORCE AND GROUPS THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING TO ENSURE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO MEET STUDENTSÂ NEEDS ITÂS JUST A REMARKABLE EFFORT.
AND I ALSO WANT TO THANK THE BOARD FOR WHEN YOU GET INTO SITUATIONS LIKE THIS AND YOU LOOK BACK WITH A GREAT DEAL OF APPRECIATION THAT WE SPENT YEARS REALLY BUILDING A STRONG BUDGET AND A BUDGET PLANNING PROCESS.
THAT HAS ALLOWED US TO ABSOLUTELY BE PREPARED.
FOR SITUATIONS, LIKE THE CURRENT COVID-19 HEALTH CRISIS, YOU KNOW, CLEARLY, WE CAN NEVER PREDICT WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE AND CERTAINLY WE CAN EXPECT OTHER EVENTS THAT WOULD OCCUR, BUT ENSURING THAT WE'RE A RESILIENT ORGANIZATION THAT CAN RESPOND TO SITUATIONS OF THIS NATURE WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE THE RESOURCES IS A CREDIT TO YOUR LEADERSHIP AND YOUR SUPPORT.
AND I, I TRULY APPRECIATE THAT.
ADDITIONALLY, WHILE WE MOVE TO ONE COLLEGE YOU KNOW THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ADVANCE OF OUR CURRENT COVID-19 BUT IT IS ACTUALLY PUT US IN AN IDEAL SITUATION TO ENABLE US TO NAVIGATE THE SITUATION AND A MATTER TO BETTER SERVE STUDENTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES.
YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR TODAY ABOUT HOW THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO MOVE NINETY-NINE-POINT SIX PERCENT OF OUR COURSES TO ONLINE.
AND THIS COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITHOUT NAMING DR LINDA BRATTY AS THE INTERIM PROVOST AND DR JOE SEABROOKS AS INTERIM VICE CHANCELLOR FOR STUDENT SUCCESS.
THE FACT THAT WE HAD THAT STRUCTURE IN PLACE, ALLOWED US TO MOVE VERY QUICKLY AND OUR OLD STRUCTURE.
1:31:41WE'RE JUST NOT DESIGNED TO RESPOND RAPIDLY IN A CONSISTENT AND UNIFORM MANNER ENSURING THAT THAT NOW, WE'RE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE.
STUDENTS HAS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD.
AND THERE ARE CERTAINLY AS, YOU KNOW, ALWAYS CHALLENGES IN THIS PROCESS AND SOME INDIVIDUALS HAVE RESISTED MOVING TO ONE COLLEGE ARE, IN FACT OF ADVOCATING SLOWING DOWN OR PUSHING BACK THE CHANGE.
YOU KNOW, IT'S REALLY CLEAR NOW THAT WE'RE INTO THIS PARTICULAR EVENT THAT WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD, AND WE NEED TO ACCELERATE IT.
THE, THE ABILITY TO BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS IS WE'RE SEEING EVIDENCE OF THAT EVERY, EVERY SINGLE DAY.
SUPPORT AS WELL, YOU KNOW, AS WE'VE DONE THIS PART OF WHAT WE'VE HAD TO DO IS ACKNOWLEDGE THAT.
SOMETHING THAT THE BOARD HAS TALKED ABOUT FOR YEARS THAT WE HAVE REDUNDANCIES OF OPERATION, AND SOMETIMES THEY DON'T ALL PULL IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO TEMPORARILY ASSIGN SOME OF OUR FOLKS TO NEW ROLES OR REACH OUT TO STUDENTS TO ASSIST THEM.
AND YOU'LL HEAR ABOUT THAT LATER ON IN THE IN THE BRIEFING AND, AND OBVIOUSLY, ONCE WE GET PASSED THIS CRISIS POINT, WE'RE GOING TO RE, LOOKING DISTRICT, WIDE AND ORGANIZATIONAL.
WHY TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE REALLY FOCUSED ON HOW TO BEST ALIGN AND UTILIZE ALL OF OUR RESOURCES OF TALENT TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS GOING FORWARD AS WE GO THROUGH TODAY'S AGENDA.
WE WANT TO SPEND A GOOD DEAL OF TIME SHARING WITH YOU, AND REALLY OUR LARGER COMMUNITY THAT THAT TREMENDOUS EFFORTS THAT ARE BEING PUT FORWARD BY FACULTY STAFF, ADMINISTRATORS, ALL HERE, LOOKING FOR WAYS TO SERVE STUDENTS AND HELP THEM THROUGH WHAT IS CHALLENGING TIME, AND I'M GOING TO SHARE SOMETHING.
I'M SURE IT'LL BE REPEATED LATER, BUT AGAIN TO SEE, WE ACTUALLY HAVE LOST LESS STUDENTS THIS SPRING THAN WE DID A YEAR AGO.
I REALLY THINK THAT STANDS AS A TESTAMENT TO WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE MAKE THAT PERSONAL CONTACT AND REACH OUT AND FIND WAYS TO HELP STUDENTS AS WE WALKED THROUGH THIS TODAY.
THERE'S GOING TO BE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITY BOARD MEMBERS FOR YOU TO ASK QUESTIONS AS IT RELATES TO SPECIFIC SITUATIONS WILL HAVE THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO, TO SHARE THAT WITH YOU AS WE GO THROUGH.
AND MADAM CHAIR I APPRECIATE, JUST KIND OF LETTING ME DO A BRIEF OVERVIEW AND I KNOW YOU HAVE AN ITEM AND WE'LL GET AFTER THAT RIGHT INTO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND OUR RAPID RESPONSE TEAM AND I'LL TURN IT OVER TO THEM TO REALLY WALK THE BOARD THROUGH A NUMBER DECISIONS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN MADE, AND THOSE THAT WE'VE MADE THAT WE'LL BE MAKING IN THE FUTURE, BUT AGAIN REALLY APPRECIATE THE BOARDS LEADERSHIP AND HELPING US BE REALLY THE TYPE OF INSTITUTION THAT'S IN THE FINANCIAL POSITION TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD ON THIS WHAT WITHOUT THE WORRIES AT MANY INSTITUTIONS ARE CHALLENGE.
SO, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.
[00:10:03]
MADAM CHAIR THAT CONCLUDES MY COMMENTS.UPDATES, THE COMPREHENSIVE UPDATES THAT YOU AND STAFF ARE GOING TO BE SHARING IN A FEW MINUTES.
SO, MY COMMENTS WILL BE SOMEWHAT LONGER THAN USUAL AND AFTER MY COMMENTS BOARD
[B. Announcements from the Board Chair and/or Trustees]
MEMBERS, AS USUAL, WE WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE YOURS.I WANT TO WELCOME ALL WHO HAVE JOINED US FOR THIS REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE DCCCD BOARD OF TRUSTEES, AND AS A CHANCER SAID, AND WE NEED TO WE ITERATE.
WE ARE ALL IN A CHALLENGING ENVIRONMENT IN MANY ASPECTS, BECAUSE OF THE SHELTER AND SPACE REQUIREMENTS.
THAT HAVE BEEN MANDATED SUPPORT, REALIZES THAT STUDENTS AND ALL STAFF ARE UNDER OPERATING UNDER CHALLENGING CIRCUMSTANCES BECAUSE WE'VE HAD TO COMPLETELY ONLINE FOR INSTRUCTION AND OTHER, ONGOING OPERATIONS OF OUR DISTRICT.
WE WANTED TO LET, YOU KNOW, THAT THE BOARD IS VERY APPRECIATIVE HOW QUICKLY THE CHANCELLOR EXECUTIVE TEAM, FACULTY, ADMINISTRATORS, AND SUPPORT STAFF RALLY TO ENSURE THE STUDENTS COULD HAVE THE BEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE IN A QUICKLY INSTITUTED ONLINE FORMAT.
WHILE, THIS HAS NOT BEEN EASY ON ANYONE.
EACH OF YOU, THE POWER THIS TO ASSURE THAT TEACHING AND LEARNING CONTINUES AND AS, YOU KNOW, STUDENTS ARE PRIMARY TO EVERYTHING WE DO, THEY ARE A REASON FOR BEING.
HOWEVER, BEFORE STUDENT EVER GETS INTO THE CLASSROOM.
THERE ARE MANY DETAILS THAT MUST BE PLANNED AND IMPLEMENTED BEFORE THEY ARE SITTING IN THIS CASE IN THEIR VIRTUAL CLASSROOM AND ONCE IN THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, FACULTY PROVIDES THE BEST LEARNING EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE.
SO, AGAIN, OUR HEARTFELT APPRECIATION FOR ALL THAT EACH OF YOU HAVE DONE TO RALLY AND POWER THROUGH THIS AND BOARD MEMBER, THANK YOU FOR YOUR OVERALL STEADFAST SUPPORT OF THE DISTRICT WHILE ALSO MAINTAINING YOU'RE RIGHT TO HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION OR BOTH ON DIFFERENTLY ON THE MATTER BOTTOM LINE, THE SUPPORT IS THERE FROM YOU AND IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN FOR THE BEST FUNCTIONING OF EACH OF THE IN SERVICE TO STUDENTS AND STAFF.
LETÂS HOPE THAT WE CAN GET BACK TO A SEMBLANCE OF NORMAL NORMALCY SOON.
SO NOW, FOR SOME HOUSEKEEPING MATTERS.
I THINK WHAT HAPPENED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETINGS.
WELL, BEFORE WE ACTUALLY STARTED THE MEETING IS KIN OF WHAT I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT HERE.
SO, I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU, BUT I HAVE BEEN ON SEVERAL VIRTUAL MEETINGS SINCE THE SHELTERING PHASE REQUIREMENTS BEGIN.
AND EACH VIRTUAL MEETING HAS BEEN A DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE WITH DIFFERENT WITCHES.
OUR BOARD RELATIONS EXECUTIVE PERLA MOLIN TOGETHER WITH IT STAFF AND OTHERS HAVE WORKED TIRELESSLY TO HELP US HAVE AS GLITCH FREE, A BOARD MEETING AS POSSIBLE.
HOWEVER, NO MATTER HOW CAREFULLY YOU PLAN.
THEY WILL BE GLITCHES AT LEAST THAT IS MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR AND WE EXPERIENCED IT SOMEWHAT BEFORE THE MEETING ADDITIONALLY BEGAN TODAY.
SO PLEASE EXCUSE ANY TECHNICAL GLITCH O AWKWARDNESS THAT MAY OCCUR DURING THE MEETING.
ALSO, WE HAVE A PROTOCOL AND WE WILL BE FOLLOWING FOR TRUSTEES TO ASK THE QUESTIONS AND MAKE THEIR COMMENTS AS POSSIBLE AS WE PASS THE MICROPHONE.
SO, TO SPEAK, YOU'LL HEAR A BRIEF MOMENT OF THAT.
WE WANTED TO LET, YOU KNOW, THAT HOPEFULLY NOTHING IS GOING ON WITH THE MEETING.
IT WAS JUST THAT WE'RE TRANSITIONING FROM ONE SPEAKER TO ANOTHER.
SO, WITH THAT THE BOARD MEMBERS, DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO MAKE? AND FOR THOSE WHO DO YOU WILL BE RECOGNIZED BY MS. MOLINA.
SO, MS. MOLINA HAS HAD ANY BOARD MEMBER INDICATED.
THEY HAVE A QUESTION OR COMMENT.
I FORGOT I FORGOT TO TURN MY MICROPHONE BACKBONE.
SO NOW WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A BRIEF DISCUSSION ON VIRTUAL MEETINGS FOR THE
[4. Discussion on Temporarily Postponing Board Committee Meetings (WebEx Poll)]
DURATION OF THE SHELTER IN PLACE REQUIREMENTS AND I WANTED TO FOR TRUSTEES TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE INPUT ON THIS VERSUS JUST ONE OR TWO PEOPLE MAKING THAT DECISION FOR YOU AS, YOU KNOW, MONTHLY MEETINGS TYPICALLY, TYPICALLY BEGIN AT TWELVE FOR THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND RUN THROUGH THE REGULAR MEETING, WHICH CAN END AT FIVE, FIVE, THIRTY OR SIX AND I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO HAVE A VIRTUAL MEETING FOR POSSIBLY FOUR OR FIVE, SIX HOURS.SO, IN THE CASE OF CHANCE FOR DECIDES, IT'S IMPERATIVE THAT WE HAVE ONE OR MORE COMMITTEE MEETINGS DURING THE SHELTER IN PLACE BOARD MEMBERS.
AND IS IT YOUR PREFERENCE TO HAVE A COMMITTEE MEETING ON THE DATES THAT WE HAVE THE REGULAR MONTHLY BOARD MEETING, OR YOU WOULD YOU PREFER THAT WE HAVE COMMITTEE MEETINGS ON A SEPARATE DATE? SO, THIS IS THE TIME FOR DISCUSSION, AND THEN MS MOLIN WILL POLL THE DOCUMENT
[00:15:04]
OR PREFERENCES THE DISCUSSION.WHERE THERE BEING NO DISCUSSION BY BOARD MEMBERS.
AM I COMING THROUGH? ALL RIGHT? HELLO? YEAH.
WANT TO BACK UP JUST A LITTLE BIT.
SORRY? FOR TAKING A WHILE TO FIND MY RAISING OF THE HAND HERE, BUT I WANTED TO MAKE A COMMENT THAT GETTING SOME PHONE CALLS FROM PEOPLE.
A NUMBER OF PEOPLE ACTUALLY CONCERNED ABOUT STUDENTS WITHOUT INTERNET ACCESS, AND WITHOUT WAY TO TAKE PART IN THEIR ONLINE COURSES.
AND I KNOW WE'LL PROBABLY ADDRESSES AT A LATER TIME.
THAT SHOULD BE MOVED UP IN THE PRIORITY LIST TO HAVE ACCESS FOR STUDENTS.
THAT DON'T HAVE THAT ACCESS, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO ARE ON THE VERGE OF GRADUATING OR EVERYONE IS AT THE AT THE POINT WHEN THE, WHERE THEY'RE FINISHING UP COURSES.
BUT, YOU KNOW, THERE'S A LOT OF STUDENTS WHO ARE RIGHT AT THE END OF THEIR TIME HERE WITH US, WHO CANNOT COMPLETE BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY EITHER FROM A HARDWARE OR A, AN INTERNET ACCESS POINT STANDPOINT TO GET ON THE LINE.
SO, JUST A COMMENT TO SEE IF WE CAN ADDRESS THAT AS A, AS A HIGHER PRIORITY THAN WHERE IT IS NOW.
THAT TYPE OF AVAILABILITY TO THOSE STUDENTS.
JAMESON WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT THAT LATER AS WE GET THROUGH THAT.
ACTUALLY, THAT WAS ONE OF THE VERY FIRST ACTIONS WE TOOK, AND TO BE ABLE TO TRY TO ACCESS VARIOUS TECHNOLOGIES WILL EXPLAIN WHERE WE ARE.
AND THAT AND THAT IN THAT PROCESS LATER ON, AS WE GET THERE, THE, THE REALITY IS, WHEN YOU HAVE EVERY, EVERY SINGLE COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL IN AMERICA IN THE SAME BOAT, THE TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES ARE OVERLOADED AT THIS POINT AND BACK ORDERED ON ITEMS. EVEN THOUGH, WE FELT LIKE, WE WERE AHEAD OF THE GAME GETTING THAT DONE THANKS TO THE QUICK ACTION OF THE BOARD ALLOWING US TO HAV THAT EMERGENCY MEETING AT THE, YOU KNOW, THE WHILE WE'RE FORTUNATE THAT WE WERE PREPARED AND ABLE TO MOVE ONLINE.
CERTAINLY, THE SAME DEGREE OF ACCESS IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ALL STUDENTS.
NO, WE'VE ACCOMMODATED WHAT WE COULD, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, WE'RE GOING TO NEED ADDITIONAL HELP FROM THE, FROM THE VENDORS AND THE OTHER TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES THAT ARE THERE, AND THEY ARE SIMPLY BEHIND AND IN TERMS OF WHERE THEY ARE.
NOW BEFORE MS. COMPTON MS. BRAVO AND TRUSTEE RITTER SO MS. COMPTON YOU HAVE THE FLOOR.
MS BRAVO YOU HAVE THE FLOOR, PERSON.
WITH THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS, IF NEEDED, BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, I DON'T THINK I KNOW FOR THIS MEETING WAS VERY HARD TO GET COMMITTEE MEETINGS SCHEDULED BECAUSE OF THE MIGRATION AND EVERYTHING, BUT I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD STOP PROGRESS.
I THINK IF MEETINGS NEED TO BE HAD, WE SHOULD BE HAVING THEM BECAUSE WHO KNOWS HOW LONG IT'LL BE BEFORE WE CAN DO IN PERSON ALSO, IN TERMS OF I DON'T REALLY IN TERMS OF SEPARATING THE MEETINGS.
I DON'T IF SOMEONE CAN EXPLAIN THE REASON WHY WE WOULD WANT TO DO THAT RATHER THAN JUST KEEPING IT THE WAY IT IS ON OUR DESIGNATED THING.
AND REGULAR BOARD MEETING ON ONE DATE IS THAT WE WOULD BE IN FRONT OF OUR COMPUTERS FOUR, FIVE POSSIBLY SIX HOURS.
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE EVERYBODY WAS OKAY WITH THAT.
AND THEN IF YOU ARE, THEN WE'LL GO AHEAD WITH OUR REGULAR FORMAT OF DOING EVERYTHING ONE DAY.
BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE THAT DECISION.
[00:20:01]
BOARD MEMBERS TO HAVE INPUT INTO THAT.SO, YOU KNOW, WHERE WE WERE UNITED AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD ON THIS DOES ANY OTHER TRUSTEE HAVE A TRUSTEE BRAVO.
SORRY DO YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL COMMENTS? I MEAN, I'M JUST KEEPING ON THE REGULAR DAY, BECAUSE I THINK TAKING ANOTHER DAY FOR A COMMITTEE MEETING IS JUST GOING TO IT CAN BE A CALENDAR PROBLEM, YOU KNOW, WITH HOW MANY DIFFERENT CALENDARS.
SO, I THINK KEEPING ON THE SAME FIRST, TUESDAY OF THE MONTH WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME.
IS SOMEBODY NEEDS TO SOMEBODY NEEDS TO MUTE MS MOLIN ANY OTHER BOARD MEMBER WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK.
MA'AM TRUSTEE RITTER HAS A COMMENT.
TRUSTEE RITTER YOU HAVE THE FLOOR.
SHARE THE CONCERN ABOUT THE EYEBALLS ON THE SCREEN FOR SIX HOURS, BUT I ALSO AGREE MONICA ABOUT MOVING FORWARD, ESPECIALLY AS WE GET INTO OUR BUDGET PLANNING SEASON, YOU KNOW, WHICH WILL LIKELY OVERLAP COVID CRISES AS WELL.
A COUPLE OF OUR COMMITTEE PROCESS MORE EFFICIENT, AND RATHER THAN MEETING AND SEPARATE COMMITTEE, PERHAPS ALL AND IF NOTHING ELSE, WE WOULDN'T MEET ALL THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS OPEN AND CLOSE THE MEETING, WHICH MIGHT BE VERY, VERY HELPFUL.
AND, YOU KNOW, WE WERE KEEPING ALL ON TUESDAY.
PERHAPS WE COULD BREAK IT UP WITH A WAS A GOOD, YOU KNOW, TWO-HOUR BREAK IN BETWEEN THE COMMITTEE ON THE WHOLE MEETING IN THE MORNING, AND A BOARD MEETING IN THE AFTERNOON.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT Y ÂALL, BUT I HEARD SOME BACKGROUND NOISE IT KEPT COMING IN AND OUT.
IF WE COULD PLEASE ASK EVERYONE TO MUTE AND ONLY THOSE WHO ARE SPEAKING, HAVE THEIR MICROPHONE TURNED ON.
IS THERE ANY OTHER TRUSTED THAT WISHES TO SPEAK TO THE ISSUE? AS NEEDED, RATHER THAN SCHEDULE AND COMMITTEE MEETING FOR EACH BOARD MEETING.
SO, SOME MONTHS MAY NOT JUST REALLY BE NECESSARY AND I'M THROWING THAT OUT BASICALLY, AS A CONSIDERATION.
NOW IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE CHANCELLOR, WE'LL HOLD OFF ON COMMITTEE MEETINGS, UNLESS THERE'S SOMETHING JUST REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT.
THAT NEEDS TO BE HANDLED BY COMMITTEE.
SO, CHANCELLOR, YOU'VE HEARD THE INPUT FROM THE TRUSTEES ARE THERE ANY OF THE TRUSTEES THAT HAVE INPUT.
MS MOLINA, I THINK EVERYONE HAS SPOKEN.
PART OF THE, OBVIOUSLY, AS WE GOT INTO THIS, WE, WE DIDN'T HAVE A GOOD SENSE OF THE TIMING, OR HOW LONG THIS MIGHT LAST.
AND SO CERTAINLY, WE RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BOARD COMING TOGETHER IN A FACE TO FACE MATTER.
HOWEVER, WE ALSO NEED TO GET BUSINESS DONE AND AS TRUSTEE RITTER POINTED OUT, AS WE START TO MOVE FURTHER, IF WE'RE AREN'T ABLE AND RIGHT NOW THE ORDERS THROUGH APRIL THIRTIETH, WHICH MEANS, THERE'S A CHANCE THAT THEY COULD BE LIFTED IN TIME FOR THE, FOR THE MAY MEETING, BUT WHO KNOWS, AND IF THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN, THEN WE'RE GOING TO REALLY HAVE TO START LOOKING AT HOW TO TAKE CARE OF SOME OF THE BUDGET ITEMS AND GOING FORWARD BECAUSE THOSE DEADLINES AREN'T GOING TO BE SHIFTED, WHICH WE'VE SEEN A LOT OF THINGS SHIFTED.
WE'LL TALK ABOUT ELECTIONS AND OTHER THINGS, BUT THE FISCAL YEAR IS PROBABLY NOT GOING TO BE DISRUPTED AND THEREFORE, WILL NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR THAT.
THERE IS THE POLL THAT'S THERE.
IF YOU WISH TO TAKE IT AND SUBMIT IT, YOU CERTAINLY HAVE THAT OPTION.
BUT I THINK WE HAVE A SENSE OF THE BOARD WITH THAT.
WE'LL MOVE ON CHANCELLOR TO THE UPDATES ON COVID-19.
[5. Update on COVID-19 Pandemic and Rapid Response Team]
AND THANK YOU FOR PREPARING THIS, BECAUSE CERTAINLY BOARD MEMBERS NEED TO BE INFORMED OF WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING INTERNALLY TO THEN EXTERNALLY TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS AND I'M GOING TO GET I'M GOING TO AGAIN.EVERYONE PLEASE KEEPS YOUR MICROPHONE ON MUTE, KEEP YOURSELF MUTED.
[00:25:01]
THANK YOU FOR.THE, THE FLEXIBILITY, AND THE ABILITY TO MOVE VERY QUICKLY, AND VERY RAPIDLY JUST TO SET THIS UP AS YOU.
RECALL, WE HAD AN EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING WHAT WAS, IN FACT, THE MONDAY THAT WAS STARTING SPRING BREAK FOR THE DISTRICT AND I CAN TELL YOU, THE LEADERSHIP TEAM TOOK THAT WE, EVEN A FEW THAT WE'RE ABLE TO GET OUT OF TOWN MAINLY BECAUSE I HAD PLANNED TO DRIVE AND DO THAT SPENT THE TIME IN MEETINGS, JUST LIKE THIS THROUGHOUT THAT ENTIRE WEEK, ENGAGING AND THINKING, AND HELPING US PULL TOGETHER THE, THE PLAN.
SO THAT WHEN WE EXTENDED THE SPRING BREAK, WE THEN WERE ABLE TO TAKE THAT WEEK AND PUT IN PLACE A NUMBER OF TEAMS TO BEGIN TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES.
SO, THAT WE COULD THEN A MONDAY A WEEK AGO, BE UP AND RUNNING AND ABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS.
AND CERTAINLY THE, THIS HAS BEEN A LEARNING EXPERIENCE ON SEVERAL, SEVERAL FRONTS.
THEY'RE JUST THE SHEER RESILIENCY AND COMMITMENT OF OUR PEOPLE IS JUST AMAZING.
AND I, I WISH I HAD TIME TODAY.
WE'VE GOT TO SHARE THE, THE, THE ACTS OF HEROICS THE, THE CARING, THE, THE, THE REACHING OUT AND GOING THE EXTRA MILE AND SOMETHING.
BUT THE, THE, AS YOU THINK BACK, EVEN WHEN WE HAD THE EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING, WE'VE SEEN ALL THE RULES AROUND THIS CHANGE SINCE THEN, IN FACT, THERE FOR A WHILE, EVERY DAY, IT WAS A DIFFERENT SET OF RULES.
SO, TO HAVE OUR FOLKS RISE UP AND RESPOND.
I REALLY APPRECIATED WHAT WE DID IS TO LOOK AT HOW WE NEEDED TO ENGAGE AND REALLY ENSURE THAT WE WERE REALLY FOCUSING ON THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AND THE PROCESS OF GOING FORWARD.
SO, WE PUT IN PLACE SIX TEAMS, WHICH YOU WILL HEAR FROM AND SEVEN COUNTING THE.
A, COVID-19 PANDEMIC RAPID RESPONSE TEAM, WHICH WAS MEETING THERE FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF WEEKS EVERY MORNING AT EIGHT, THIRTY, A M FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF TO WORK THROUGH THE VARIOUS ISSUES.
NOW, THAT WE'RE A LITTLE FURTHER IN, WE'RE MEETING THREE DAYS A WEEK PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT LONGER DURING THE MEETING TIMES ON EACH OF THOSE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE, WE'RE THINKING THROUGH.
BUT ALSO, NOW, EACH OF THOSE TEAMS HAS MULTIPLE TEAMS THAT ARE OUT FUNCTIONING REPORTING UP LITERALLY HAVING TO MAKE THOUSANDS OF DECISIONS IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO ACCOMMODATE STUDENTS GOING FORWARD.
SO YOU CAN SEE IN THE AGENDA THAT WE'VE KIND OF BROKEN THIS OUT BY, AND I'M GOING TO START WITH THE ACADEMIC SUCCESS WHERE APPRECIATE THE DR LINDA BRADDY OF COURSE OF PRESIDENT AT BROOKHAVEN AGREEING TO BE NOT ONLY CHAIR OF THE STUDENT AND ACADEMIC SUCCESS TEAM BUT ALSO THE INTERI PROVOST DURING THIS PERIOD OF TIME, SHE'LL TALK ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DONE IN THAT AREA EVERYTHING FROM HOW WE TRANSITION TO ONLINE TO SOME OF THE CHALLENGES AND THEN THE STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES.
THANK DR. SEABROOK AS PRESIDENT, CEDAR VALLEY FOR AGREEING TO BE CHAIR OF THE STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES TEAM, BUT ALSO SERVE AS THE INTERIM VICE CHANCELLOR FOR STUDENTSÂ SUCCESS AND, AND REALLY FOCUSING ON THAT THAT WHOLE AREA STUDENT NEED AND SUPPORT.
THEN WE'RE GOING TO SHIFT INTO THE OPERATIONAL AREA.
WE REALIZED VERY QUICKLY THAT WE NEEDED TO DO SOME THINGS DIFFERENTLY THAT WE WERE HAVING DIFFERENT LOCATIONS, ENGAGE EMPLOYEES DIFFERENTLY.
SO, WE REALIZED WE NEEDED TO MOVE AND ROLL UP ALL OF HR UNDER SHERRI ENRIGHT.
SO THAT WE WERE REALLY LOOKING AT EMPLOYEE CARE, A REMOTE WORKING, AND HOW WE MANAGE THAT.
AND, OF COURSE, TECHNOLOGY BACKING THAT UP ALL THE WAY, THE OPERATIONAL CONTINUITY WHILE WE'RE DEALING WITH A CRISIS, WE ALSO HAVE TO LOOK TO THE FUTURE AND HOW WE MANAGE THOSE.
SO THAT WE WOULD BE IN GOOD PLACE.
WE, WE, WE ALSO HAVE A GROUP THAT JUST ALIGNED CHAIRED AROUND SCENARIOS.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE UNEXPECTED OCCURS AND HOW DO WE RESPOND TO THAT VERY, VERY QUICKLY AND, AND APPRECIATE THAT.
AND THEN, OF COURSE, THE GLUE THAT MADE, I KIND OF KEPT IT ALL GOING WAS THE,
[00:30:02]
THE COMMUNICATION PIECE.PATTY ARELLANO-TOLOTTA, YOU KNOW, DID AN AMAZING JOB OF BRINGING TOGETHER FOLKS ACROSS THE ENTIRE DISTRICT TO HELP WITH THAT.
SO, I'M GOING TO OPEN IT UP MADAM CHAIR AND MEMBERS WITH LINDA BRADDY AND DR BRADDY WOULD REMIND YOU COME ON TO BE SURE.
AND KIND OF PAUSE FROM TIME TO TIME, SO THAT WE CAN OPEN THIS UP TO QUESTIONS FOR THE BOARD SHOULD THEY HAVE ANY THAT WOULD BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO THOSE? SO, DR BRADDY.
AND I'M SORRY, BUT I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO CAPTURE THE HISTORY OF THIS OF HOW Y ÂALL WORKED THROUGH THIS THAT SHOULD THIS COME ABOUT AGAIN, AND WE HAVE DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN KEY ROLES.
LET'S SAY, MAYBE IT HAPPENS FIVE TEN YEARS DOWN THE ROAD.
THINK IT'S REALLY HIT A REALLY IMPORTANT TO CAPTURE THE HISTORY OF IT AND ALSO TO BE A PART OF THE HISTORY OF THE DCCCD.
SO, HOPEFULLY, OUR FINDINGS DO THAT.
WE REALIZE THAT WE REALLY NEED TO AND YES SOME OF IT WILL JUST HAVE TO DO WHEN THE DUST SETTLES A BIT.
THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS AT THE SPEED AT WHICH WE'RE GOING RIGHT NOW.
IT'S PRETTY HARD TO CATCH A BREATH WITH THIS.
BUT THAT IS A GOOD POINT AND I'LL JUST REITERATE WE REALLY HAD AN ADVANTAGE, AND THAT WE ALREADY HAD THOUGHT THROUGH A STRUCTURE OF ONE COLLEGE AND THAT REALLY PUT US IN A MUCH BETTER POSITION TO DO THIS WITHOUT HAVING TO INVENT THAT ASPECT ON THE FLY.
AS PROVOST MY ROLE IS TO SERVE AS THE CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER FOR THE ENTIRE DISTRICT.
I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR FACULTY FOR CURRICULA PROGRAMMING AREAS, SCHEDULING ACADEMIC POLICIES SORT OF ALL THINGS ACADEMIC AND SO ALSO IS PROVOST.
I AM LEADING THIS STUDENT, ACADEMIC SUCCESS TASK FORCE THAT THE CHANCELLOR MENTIONED, WHICH INCLUDES THE MEMBERS INCLUDE ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENT.
I HAVE A DEAN ON THEIR FACULTY AS WELL AS INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT STAFF MEMBERS.
THIS IS REALLY AN AMAZING GROUP OF PEOPLE.
WE ALL WORK REALLY WELL TOGETHER, AND WE'VE REALLY BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH A LOT IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
SO, DOES ANYBODY WANT TO ASK AND MOVE ON TO TALKING ABOUT FUNCTIONING IN ONE COLLEGE? AND SOME OF THE CHALLENGES ARE THAT.
I'M JUST AMAZED AT HOW QUICKLY.
Y ÂALL WE'RE ABLE TO TRANSITION TO ONLINE INSTRUCTION FOR STUDENTS.
IT JUST IT'S GREAT, BUT GO AHEAD.
TOOK A LITTLE TIME TO DO IT, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYBODY.
AND THEN ALSO THE COMMUNICATIONS PIECE AND REALLY ALL OF THE PIECES YOU'RE REPORTING ON HERE IS THIS BOARD MEETING AGAIN.
OF OUR EMPLOYEES DESERVE A LOT OF CONGRATULATIONS ON THAT.
THEY REALLY, REALLY ARE SO I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THE SPECIFIC SO IN GENERAL, BECAUSE WE'RE COLLABORATING ACROSS THE ENTIRE DISTRICT.
WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH MORE THEN WE OTHERWISE WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO AND AT A MUCH FASTER PACE.
SO, OF COURSE, THAT WAS REQUIRED DURING THIS CRISIS, WHEN THING.
HELLO, I'VE BEEN ABLE TO RESPOND AS QUICKLY AS WE HAVE WITH.
LIST THE SOUND QUALITIES THAT I'M GETTING THIS IS NOT CHECK IT OUT.
[00:35:06]
BACK AND FORTH WORRY THE SOUND QUALITY THAT I'M GETTING THIS NOT VERY GOOD.TRUST ME, I'VE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WHEN WE HAD THE RUN THROUGH LAST FRIDAY AND THE RESPONSE WAS THAT SINCE.
THERE'S SO MANY PEOPLE ONLINE.
IT CAN AFFECT THE SOUND QUALITY BECAUSE ON MINE, IT KEEPS GOING IN AND OUT.
BUT YOU'LL MISS MAYBE TWO OR THREE WORDS.
BUT NOT AS MANY AS WE'RE MISSING WITH DR BRADY.
OKAY, BECAUSE I'VE HEARD EVERYBODY IS CLEARLY, BUT ONCE YOU FIRST CAME OUT, AND IT WAS KIND OF LOW, AND IT WAS LOUD, WHATEVER FOR SOME, THEY CAN WORK ON THAT A LATER TIME.
BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN I'M GOING TO PUT YOU ON MUTE.
SO, IF SOMEONE COULD COMMUNICATE TO MY PRESENTATION AT ANOTHER POINT, AND LET THE NEXT ONE UP, MAKE THEIR PRESENTATION WHILE SHE WORKS FOR HER AUDIO ISSUES.
SO, WHO COULD? WHAT WE'LL GO THAT ROUTE AND CIRCLE BACK AND DO THAT IT MAY HELP THOSE OF YOU PRESENTING TO ANYONE THAT CAN CUT THERE ARE OTHER VIDEO WOULD PROBABLY HELP AS WELL TO JUST THE, THE BANDWIDTH ISSUES OF VIDEO ARE SO MUCH GREATER THAN AUDIO AND WHILE IT MAY, SOME OF IT WON'T WORK.
THE PROBLEM IS NOT ON THE, THE END OF THE CONFERENCE, BUT MAYBE EVEN BACK ON THE BACKSIDE OF THAT.
I DON'T I DON'T SEE DR BRADDY NAME ON THE LIST CURRENTLY.
SO, I'LL MOVE ON AT THIS POINT, AND AS DR SEABROOK TO UPDATE US IN TERMS OF WHAT'S TAKEN PLACE WITH THE STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES AS WELL AS THE ROLE OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR STUDENTSÂ SUCCESS.
I WILL KEEP MY EYES GLUED TO THE CHATBOX TO MAKE SURE IF I CUT OUT.
IT HAS BEEN AN ABSOLUTE PRIVILEGE SERVING IN THIS INTERIM CAPACITY AS THE CHIEF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT OFFICER.
AN ENROLLMENT MANAGER, YOU KNOW, UNFORTUNATELY, AS A, AS A PRESIDENT, YOU GET TO OFTENTIMES SEE OUR PEOPLE AT THEIR WORST.
BUT IN THIS CASE, I CAN TELL YOU UNEQUIVOCALLY THE WORK THAT THE FOLKS HAVE DONE.
AND THE RESPONSE PROCESS HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE.
THE FOUR THINGS, THE FOUR AREAS THAT WE HAVE BROKEN OUR WORKUP INTO WOULD BE STUDENT NEEDS TO ASSESS THOSE AND TRACK THOSE COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES, A VIRTUAL STUDENT RESOURCE CENTER AND SUPPORTING STAFF TELECOMMUTE TO BEST SERVE STUDENTS AND THEN TO ENGAGE EMPLOYERS AND CONNECT STUDENTS WITH JOBS WHO HAVE BEEN DISPLACED THROUGHOUT THIS PANDEMIC A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT ARE THIS SO PROUD OF JUST SINCE YESTERDAY THIS NUMBER NEEDS TO BE UPDATED, BUT OVER NEARLY TWO HUNDRED FOLKS WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO CALL EVERY SINGLE STUDENT WHO'S CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN OUR DISTRICT AND ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO DATE.
THESE CALLS, THE TRAINING BEGAN LAST THURSDAY WITH EIGHTY FOUR PEOPLE WE HAD ROUGHLY SEVENTEEN FOLKS TRAINING ON SATURDAY, AND THE BALANCE WERE TRAINED ON MONDAY, AND NEARLY TWO THOUSAND CALLS MADE IN THAT SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND TO HEAR THE STORIES OF THE STUDENTS AND THEIR APPRECIATION FOR US, REACHING OUT TO THEM IS JUST BEEN INSPIRING STUDENTS LOVE THEIR INSTITUTION AND THE PEOPLE WHO MADE THE CALLS LOVE THE STUDENTS BACK.
I'M, I'M HAPPY TO SHARE AND I'LL ASK DR PYEPER WILKINS TO JUMP IN IS STUDENTSÂ ABILITY TO ACCESS EMERGENCY AID.
LET ME PAUSE FOR A SECOND AND LET DOCTOR PYEPER WILKINS WILL JUMP IN AND I'LL PAUSE.
SO, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
THIS IS DIANA FLORES I REALLY, I'M EXCITED AND HEARTENED BY THE FACT THAT WE'RE REACHING OUT.
YOU SAID WE'RE REACHING OUT VIRTUALLY TO EVERYONE WE HAVE ENROLLED?
[00:40:02]
AND HONESTLY, THIS IS THE SECOND CONTACT PATTY WILL TELL YOU ABOUT THE INITIAL CAMPAIGN AND HER PRESENTATION.SO, THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO THAT FIRST CONTACT.
THEM THAT THEY ARE IMPORTANT TO US.
SO IMPORTANT, THEY'RE RECEIVING PERSONAL VIRTUAL ONE ON ONE CONTACT.
I'M VERY HAPPY TO SHARE WITH ALL OF YOU THAT THE FOUNDATION BOARD HAS REDIRECTED A MILLION DOLLARS OF FUNDS OUT OF THE FOUNDATIONS TO EMERGENCY AID.
YOU MAY RECALL WE LAUNCHED OUR EMERGENCY AID PROGRAM LAST FALL IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TORNADO THAT CAME THROUGH DALLAS IN LATE OCTOBER.
WE'RE WORKING WITH A COMPANY CALLED EQUITY.
THEY ARE ADMINISTERING THIS PROGRAM FOR US AT NO COST TO US.
OUR ONLY COST IS THE AID THAT WE PROVIDE TO SO, A MILLION DOLLARS IS GOING TO GO A LONG WAYS TOWARDS HELPING STUDENTS GET THROUGH THIS VERY CHALLENGING TIME.
AND THE FOUNDATION WAS REALLY EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS AND TO STEP FORWARD AND HELP AT THIS POINT.
SO, OUR APPLICATION NUMBERS ARE RISING EVERY DAY.
IT'S JUST THAT OUR PARTNER EQUITY IS REALLY, REALLY, REALLY WORKING HARD TO ACCESS ALL THE STUDENTS THAT THEY CAN AND PROVIDE AS MUCH HELP AS WE CAN.
PEOPLE TO HELP OUT WITH THIS WITH THIS LOAD.
SO, THEY'RE, THEY'RE STEPPING UP AS WELL.
THE NEXT THING I'M PLEASED TO SHARE WITH YOU, THIS IS A HAVE BEEN AN INCREDIBLE EXERCISE TO SEE THE LEADERSHIP COME TOGETHER TO DEVELOP OUR DISTRICT'S FIRST EVER VIRTUAL STUDENT RESOURCE CENTER AND HE HAS A COMMENT.
THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME, ALL OF THE COLLECTIVE SERVICES AND RESOURCES AT ONE STOP ON ONE LANDING PAGE AT OUR DISTRICT WEBSITE AND YOU CAN SEE A SCREENSHOT OF THE, THE SITE THAT LAUNCHED ACTUALLY, YESTERDAY ACTUALLY, TODAY AND IT'S BEEN JUST AN AMAZING FEEDBACK THAT WE'VE RECEIVED THAT STUDENTS AND THE FACULTY AND STAFF ADMINISTRATORS WHO SERVE STUDENTS CAN ACCESS QUICKLY THE RESOURCES THAT ARE AVAILABLE COLLECTIVELY THROUGHOUT OUR SEVEN CAMPUSES.
SERVICES AREA IN THE TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS, AND A COUPLE OF THINGS I'M CURIOUS ABOUT AT THE EMERGENCY BOARD MEETING THE CHANCER MENTIONED THAT WE WERE BUYING A LOT OF LAPTOPS AND OR TABLETS, YOU KNOW, CREATING THE MEANS FOR STUDENTS TO CONNECT ELECTRONICALLY AND I'VE HEARD FROM A COUPLE OTHER AGENCIES, ESPECIALLY THE, YOU KNOW, SERVE ECONOMICALL DISADVANTAGE PERSONS.
AND, YOU KNOW, IN HEALTHCARE THAT'S HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, YOU KNOW, HOW DO THEY, HOW DO THEY GET A HARDWARE PLATFORM INTO THE HANDS OF PEOPLE THEY'RE TRYING TO SERVE AND DO THINGS LIKE TELEHEALTH AND I'M, I'M WONDERING, DID WE BUILD ANY PARTNERSHIPS? AND WHETHER WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO BUILD SOME PARTNERSHIPS TO, YOU KNOW, LEVERAGE OUR TECHNOLOGY PLATFORMS ACROSS.
SO WIDE VARIETY OF STUDENT NEEDS, MAYBE THAT'S HAPPENING IN THE VIRTUAL STUDENT RESOURCES CAPABILITY THAT YOU'RE DESCRIBING HERE.
BUT WE ALSO HAVE WE ALSO HAVE THE AUNT BERTHA PROCESS AS WELL THAT I WOULD IMAGINE IS SOMETHING OUR STUDENTS ARE USING.
AND SO ANY, ANY ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS ON THE TECHNOLOGY CAN HAVE.
OPPORTUNITY FOR LEVERAGING OUR INVESTMENTS IN THE TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS.
I'D APPRECIATE LET ME LET ME JUMP IN ON A COUPLE OF THOSE CERTAINLY RELATED TO TECHNOLOGY AND LET ME YOU MENTIONED THAT AUNT BERTHA.
THEY, THEY HAVE BEEN JUST GREAT.
WE HAVE FORWARD THEM ADDITIONAL RESOURCES THAT THEY HAVE INCLUDED AND THEIR SIDE THAT MADE THAT AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS.
SAY, AGAIN, THEY WERE WORKING AS WE WERE AROUND THE CLOCK TO MAKE SURE THAT
[00:45:01]
THAT WAS ACCESSIBLE.KNOWING THE, THE URGENCY OF WHAT WAS THERE? I WILL SAY ALSO THAT, YOU KNOW, THE, THE COLLABORATION THAT HAS A TAKEN PLACE HAS BEEN JUST PHENOMENAL.
I AND NOT TO GET HIM, BECAUSE OTHER FOLKS ARE DOING IT, BUT ON A WEEKLY BASIS MEETING WITH THE CITY MANAGER WITH JUDGE JENKINS WITH MICHAEL HINOJOSA, WITH A FRED REESE WITH PARKLAND WITH GARY THOMAS AT DART AND THOSE HAVE BEEN INCREDIBLY PRODUCTIVE MEETINGS AS WELL AS MEETING WITH THE CEOS OF THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS TALKING ABOUT THOSE, THOSE RELATIONSHIPS WORKING WITH OUR K, TWELVE PARTNERS.
AND LITERALLY INVOLVED THOUSANDS OF CONTACTS AND OUTREACH AS WE'VE COME TOGETHER AROUND AND JUST TO NUMEROUS DIMENSIONS, BUT EVERYTHING FROM CHILDCARE AS YOU MENTIONED TO TECHNOLOGY.
NOW, I WILL SAY THIS ON THE, THE, THE TECHNOLOGY FRONT.
WELL, CERTAINLY OUR STUDENTS HAVE NEEDS AND WE, WE RECOGNIZE THAT WE, A COUPLE OF THINGS I WANT TO EMPHASIZE.
WE DID NOT YET CULTIVATE, THE, A LOT OF THE TECHNOLOGY WE WERE PURCHASING WAS SIMPLY TO GET OUR OWN EMPLOYEES.
WE NEEDED ABOUT A THOUSAND JUST TO GET OUR EMPLOYEES, THE ABILITY TO WORK REMOTELY SO THAT THEY COULD ENGAGE STUDENTS.
WE DID NOT HAVE THAT THAT CAPABILITY.
AND TIM MARSHALL CAN TALK ABOUT THE, THAT WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENED IN THAT IS THE TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES.
RIGHTFULLY SO, I HAVE PUT AN EMPHASIS ON K, TWELVE AND AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD, THEY REALLY FOCUSED ON ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL, PARTICULARLY.
BUT ALSO, HIGH SCHOOL, BUT EARLY ON GETTING OUT THE HOTSPOTS AND TECHNOLOGY TO THEM.
SO, THAT IS REALLY SUPERSEDED ALL OTHER REQUEST AS THAT AS THAT HAS COME IN WHILE WE'VE PUT IN ORDERS IMMEDIATELY AND I'VE WORKED WITH IT OF THE MANY I WOULD SAY TO THE COMMUNITY WHILE CERTAINLY OUR STUDENTS HAVE NEEDS.
MANY REVIEWS VIEW US AS A RESOURCE TO HELP WITH SOME OF THE OTHER CHALLENGES THAT ARE THERE, AND JUSTIN WILL TALK ABOUT.
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE LATER ON TO, TO DO THAT.
SO, I APPRECIATE THE COMMENT, AND I THINK THAT WE'VE LEARNED FROM THIS THAT WE CAN DO SOME THINGS, ORGANIZATIONALLY IN THE FUTURE COULD BE ABLE TO MOVE MUCH MORE QUICKLY.
THEN WE WERE ABLE TO BY NOT HAVING TO ACQUIRE TECHNOLOGY FOR OUR OWN PEOPLE.
BUT RATHER DESIGN OUR OFFICES TO BE MUCH MORE MOBILE FROM THE FROM THE BEGINNING.
SO, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THE THINGS WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO DO RIGHT HERE IN THE SHORT RUN, AND OTHER THINGS WE'VE HAD TO REALLY MAKE NOTES OF WHAT WE WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY AS WE COME OUT OF THIS AND WHERE WILL BE, I'M MAKING SOME FUTURE INVESTMENTS.
VIRTUAL STUDENT RESOURCE CENTER THAT THIS ENTIRE PROCESS TO LESS THAN SEVEN CALENDAR DAYS FOR THE TEAM TO PULL THIS TOGETHER.
AND AGAIN, WHAT I'M TELLING YOU.
I MEAN, I'M INSPIRED AND AWED ABOUT THE COLLABORATIVE SPIRIT.
YOU WOULD ALSO NOTICE THE EMERGENCY AID.
FINE, BUT THAT'S RIGHT THERE ON THAT PARTICULAR LANDING PAGE AS WELL AS A VIRTUAL CALL CENTER, WHICH WILL BE MORE TO COME AS WE BUILD IN THE FUTURE.
I WOULD ALSO LASTLY SAY ABOUT THE VIRTUAL RESOURCE CENTER FROM A, FROM A REGISTRATION STANDPOINT.
THE TEAM IS NOT DONE, THEY'RE RATTLING THEIR WORK TOGETHER AND THEY'RE PUTTING TOGETHER A COMPREHENSIVE REGISTRATION PLAN TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE UP AND RUNNING BEFORE APRIL TWENTY FIRST AND, AND AS, YOU KNOW, HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN THE WELL, BEING OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS IS, IS PARAMOUNT IN OUR DISTRICT, AND I'M GOING TO PAUSE FOR A SECOND INVITE A DR. IRIS FREEMON TO SHARE SOME OF THE GREAT WORK THAT'S HAPPENING IN THIS SPACE.
AS DR. SEABROOK SAID OUR MENTAL HEALTH.
WELL, BEING OF OUR STUDENTS IS A PRIORITY, AND WE HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB WITH THAT WITH OUR COUNSELORS, OUR CARE TEAM, AND OUR NURSES OVER THE YEARS AND WE WANT TO CONTINUE THAT IN THE VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.
SO, WE'VE TAKEN A THREE-PRONG APPROACH IF YOU WOULD TO JUST KIND OF GETTING US OUT THE GATE REALLY RAPIDLY TO IMMEDIATELY ADDRESS OUR STUDENTS, MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS.
THE FIRST APPROACH IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH A COMPANY CALLED TOP CAMPUS AND NO COST TO US RIGHT NOW WE ARE ABLE TO OFFER OUR STUDENTS ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, A APP, THAT OFFICE REAL TIME, TWENTY, FOUR, SEVEN MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IN, WHICH THEY ARE ABLE TO ENGAGE WITH STUDENTS, ANONYMOUSLY WHO ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME
[00:50:05]
CHALLENGES, MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES WITHOUT THE STIGMA THAT THEY MAY FACE IF THEY WERE ABLE TO USE IT.IF THEY WERE USING A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM.
AND ALSO, THEY WOULDN'T THRUST REGULAR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM, HAVE THE ACCESS TO TRAIN PEER SUPPORTERS AND PROFESSIONAL STAFF.
SO, WE'RE REALLY EXCITED THAT WE HAVE THAT TWO OF OUR STUDENTS IMMEDIATELY TO BEGIN TO GET SOME ASSISTANCE AND SOME SUPPORT THE APP HAS BILINGUAL SUPPORT AS WELL.
SO, WE REALLY MEAN THAT IT'S AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS, AND IN A DEEPER WAY OF REACHING OUR STUDENTS IN THE MENTAL HEALTH SPACE, WE HAVE STOOD UP OUR TELEHEALTH MODALITY.
OUR COUNSELORS WANTED TO CONTINUE, AND OUR CARE TEAM CONTINUE TO CARE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
THE WAY THEY WORK FACE TO FACE, AND THIS IS A WAY THAT ALLOWS THEM TO DO THAT BY PROVIDING THAT CONFIDENTIAL DIRECT CONNECTION WITH TH STUDENTS ALONG WITH THE OPPORTUNITY FOR GROUP COUNSELING TO CONTINUE AS WELL IN THE VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.
AND THEN THE LAST PIECE OF THAT IS OUR NURSES AND COUNSELORS AND CARE TEAM WORK TOGETHER, BECAUSE HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND MENTAL HEALTH GO TOGETHER THEY IMPACT ONE ANOTHER AS ARE NURSES ACROSS ALL SEVEN COLLEGES HAVE WORKED TOGETHER TO STAND UP A DCCCD HEALTH CENTER NURSE.
LINE IN, WHICH THEY WILL MAN THAT LINE ON A ROTATING SCHEDULE DAILY FROM EIGHT AM TO EIGHT, THIRTY PM MONDAY TO FRIDAY.
MAKING SURE THAT THEY CONTINUE TO PROMOTE HEALTH WELLNESS, PREVENTATIVE CARE AND THE COUNSELORS, AND THE CARE TEAM INTO THAT HEALTH CARE FOR OUR STUDENTS AS THAT.
AND THEN WE'RE LOOKING LASTLY INTO RE, PARTNERING WITH SOUTHWESTERN AND MAKING USE OF THEIR I JUST ENHANCED ONLINE SCREEN TOOL FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND FOR REFERRALS.
DO WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? THANK YOU.
SO HOW ARE WE GETTING THESE FREE SERVICES? IS IT THAT IT'S KIND OF LIKE A TRIAL RUN FOR US? AND IF WE'RE SATISFIED, THEN WE WOULD SIGN UP FOR THE SERVICE.
LIKE MANY INSTITUTIONS ARE DOING ACROSS THE NATION BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION WHERE YOU WOULD COVID-19, THEY REACHED OUT AND SAID THAT THEY'RE OFFERING COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES THE SERVICE BECAUSE COLLEGE STUDENTS ARE SO VULNERABLE IN GENERAL.
AND ESPECIALLY NOW THAT THEY FEEL A SENSE OF ABANDONMENT, BECAUSE COLLEGES ARE CLOSED AND USUALLY THE INSTITUTIONS ARE PLACES STABILITY FOR THEM.
AND THEN WITH TELEHEALTH, WE ALREADY HAVE WEB X AND WEB X HAS, IT IS A, IT'S USED BY HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS ANYWAY.
AND SO, THEREFORE, IT'S HIPPA COMPLIANT.
AND SINCE IT WAS A TOOL THAT WE ALREADY HAVE, WE JUST HAD TO TURN ON A FEW MORE BELLS.
AND WHISTLES FOR OUR COUNSELORS AND CARE TEAM FOR THEM TO UTILIZE IT IN THAT CAPACITY.
DR. FREEMON LAST COUPLE OF THINGS I'LL SHARE.
I'M GLAD WE'RE ABLE TO GET THE MARKETING, THE BRANDING FOR THE WORKREADYU MOBILE APP.
I KNOW YOU ARE WELL FAMILIAR WITH THE WORKREADYU UNIT IN OUR DISTRICT, AND THE INCREDIBLE WORK THAT THEY DO.
WELL, THEY HAVE DOUBLE DOWN AND CREATED THIS MOBILE APP THAT'S AVAILABLE ON GOOGLE PLAY, OR THE APP STORE AND IT ABSOLUTELY IS INCREDIBLE BECAUSE NOT ONLY AT A STUDENTÂS FINGERTIPS.
THEY CAN ACCESS ALL OF THE JOB OPENINGS IN THE REGION, EVEN THE EMERGING JOBS TO THIS NEW ECONOMY.
BUT IT ALSO LINKS THE JOBS WITH THEIR PREFERRED, OR THE ACADEMIC CERTIFICATE OR PROGRAM THAT THEY WANT TO PURSUE.
SO, IT SORTS TO JOBS BY THEIR TRAINING INTEREST, AND ALMOST EVERY MAJOR ENTITY THAT, THAT COMMUNICATES ABOUT JOBS, WHETHER IT'S THE WORKFORCE SOLUTIONS OR.
I SAY, YES, TO DALLAS TO THE DALLAS REGIONAL CHAMBER, A STUDENT HAS ACCESS TO THIS PARTICULAR TOOL AND THE INCREDIBLE WORK THAT TOOK FOR ALL THIS TO COME TO FRUITION.
IT TOOK ALMOST ALL CORNERS OF THE INSTITUTION TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE TO REACH OUT TO THE EMPLOYERS.
AND TO MAKE THIS TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE, AND IT'S ALSO AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, IT'S A FANTASTIC RECRUITING TOOL TO GET PEOPLE INTO OUR PROCESS, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN NOT CONSUMERS OF HIGHER
[00:55:03]
EDUCATION.AND THEN, THE LAST THING I'LL SAY IS THAT THE COMMUNICATION STRATEGY THAT WE HAVE HAD AS A, AS A COLLEGE IS JUST UNBELIEVABLY POSITIVE.
OUR COORDINATION, OUR COMMUNICATIONS ARE COORDINATED ACROSS THE DISTRICT ACROSS THE CAMPUSES.
WE ARE ALMOST MOVING AS ONE UNIT TO MAKE SURE THE CORRESPONDENCE OR COMMUNICATIONS ARE ALIGNED AT THE OVERLAP, OR CONFLICT.
AND I THINK IT'S BEEN A BETTER EXPERIENCE, NOT ONLY FOR OUR STUDENTS, BUT AS PART OF THE PROFESSIONAL TEAM, I PERSONALLY FEEL BETTER CONNECTING AND HAVE MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION BECAUSE OF THE STRATEGY.
AND AGAIN, IT'S BEEN A PRIVILEGE TO BE A PART OF THIS PROCESS.
AND THIS UNFORTUNATE, THIS HORRIBLE SET OF CIRCUMSTANCES.
IN THE DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT TEAM.
AND I'LL PAUSE IT TO SEE, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
AND THEY'VE GONE TO ONLINE CLASSES ALSO.
THAT DO NOT REQUIRE HAND FACE TO FACE LABS.
IF THE FACULTY COULD NOT COME UP WITH A SOLUTION FOR THAT, THOSE COURSES HAVE BEEN TRANSITIONED TO EITHER A THIRD PARTY ENTITY.
THAT HAS HELPED US WITH THE TRAINING, OR WE HAVE LOOKED AT HOLDING OFF SOME OF THOSE TRAININGS LIKE, FOR EXAMPLE, OUR CONSTRUCTION TRAINING PROGRAM.
AND I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THAT, AND I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THEIR ACCESS TO ANY TECHNOLOGY TO DO THEIR ONLINE CLASSES OUT WHATEVER.
BUT THAT'S PORTION THAT DOESN'T HAVE TO ANSWER NOW.
BUT IF I CAN GET AN ANSWER IS TO HOW THIS WORK IN APP, I'D APPRECIATE.
IMPORTANT TO THIS POPULATION WHILE MANY OF THEM DIDN'T HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER TECHNOLOGY.
THEY DO HAVE ACCESS TO A SMARTPHONE AND THE ABILITY TO DO THAT.
SO, SOME OF THEM WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE AND SOME, NOT, BUT WE'LL, WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THEM AS WELL TO FIND SOLUTIONS TO THOSE CHALLENGES.
THEY WILL BUILDING THEIR ENROLLMENT AND, YOU KNOW, I HAVE THE THOUGHT THAT SAYS THESE OF PEOPLE THAT REALLY NEED THOSE JOBS SKILLS AND AVAILABLE AVAILABILITY OF ANY OPPORTUNITY THAT WE DON'T LOSE TO A WELL, EVEN THE ONES THAT MAY DROP OFF I HOPE WE DON'T LOSE TRACK OF THEM AND IT'S AND YEAH.
I, YOU KNOW, THESE ARE THE ONES THAT ARE MOST VULNERABLE AND THE ONES THAT KEEP ME UP AT NIGHT WORRYING ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO AND HOW EVEN WHEN THEY CAN'T TAKE THEIR CLASSES NOW, IT'S SO IMPORTANT THAT WE GET THEM BACK IN.
AS SOON AS WE CAN, BECAUSE IF, YOU KNOW, WITHOUT SKILLS, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET THE GOOD JOBS AND RIGHT NOW, WHERE ARE ABLE TO PUT PEOPLE IN AND JUST SOME GREAT JOBS AND WE DON'T WANT TO.
SO, SOMETIMES WE ONLY GET ONE SHOT AT IT AND WE DON'T WANT TO LOSE THAT CHANCE.
YOU ALL HAVE COVERED A LOT OF THINGS THAT I'M OFFERING A LOT OF SERVICES THAT I FIND IMPRESSIVE THINGS THAT I WOULD EVEN THINK ABOUT RIGHT NOW AND ESPECIALLY IN THE SHORT TIMEFRAME THAT YOU'VE DONE.
HEARING NONE DR. BRADDY I THINK YOU WERE ABLE TO GET BACK IN I CAN'T SEE YOU UP ON THE MENU HERE, BUT IF YOU'RE THERE, IF YOU'D LET US KNOW, AND MAYBE PICK BACK UP AND OH, GOOD.
I, YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES SOMETHING JUST TAKES OVER YOUR COMPUTER AND INTERNET CONNECTION.
SO, I'LL START FROM THE BEGINNING BECAUSE IT SEEMS MY AUDIO WAS CUTTING IN AND
[01:00:06]
OUT ALL ALONG AND I HADN'T GOTTEN VERY FAR ANYWAY.SO, I'LL JUST SAY AGAIN THAT I FEEL VERY HONORED BY THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS INTERIM PROVOST AND AS PROVOST.
MY ROLE IS TO SERVE AS THE CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICER FOR THE DISTRICT.
SO, I'M RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE FACULTY CURRICULUM PROGRAM AREAS, SCHEDULING ACADEMIC POLICIES BASICALLY, ALL THINGS ACADEMIC ALSO, AS PROVOST.
I'M LEADING THE TASK FORCE THAT DR. DR.
MAY MENTIONED THE STUDENT ACADEMIC SUCCESS TASK FORCE.
IT INCLUDES ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENT.
I HAVE A DEAN FACULTY INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT STAFF MEMBERS AND IS AN AMAZING GROUP OF PEOPLE.
TO WORK REALLY WELL TOGETHER AND WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH A LOT IN A REALLY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
EVERYBODY'S REALLY DUG IN AND, AND JUST WORKED DAYLIGHT TO DARK.
SO, BECAUSE WE ARE NOW COLLABORATING ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH MORE.
THEN WE WOULD HAVE OTHERWISE BEEN ABLE TO ADD THIS MUCH FASTER PACE, WHICH, OF COURSE, IS REQUIRED DURING THIS CRISIS.
BECAUSE THINGS IN THE WORLD ARE CHANGING.
THIS COLLABORATION HAS BEEN AMAZING, AND IT'S ALLOWED US THIS ADDITIONAL FLEXIBILITY AND THE ABILITY TO MOVE FASTER.
AND WE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO RESPOND AS QUICKLY AS WE HAVE WITHOUT THIS ONE COLLEGE APPROACH, FOR SURE.
FOR ME, THE BEST OUTCOME OF ALL BEYOND JUST THE BASICS BEING ABLE TO GET UP AND RUNNING IN THIS VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT IS THE EQUITY THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO ACHIEVE, WE ARE NOW MAKING CONSISTENT DECISION ABOUT ISSUES THAT DIRECTLY IMPACT OUR STUDENTS AND OUR EMPLOYEES.
SO THAT NO ONE IS DISADVANTAGED AS COMPARED TO THEIR PEERS.
SO, I THINK THAT'S A GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENT IN IN AND OF ITSELF.
SO, I'VE BEGIN THINGS LIKE MEETING WEEKLY WITH ALL IN ADDITION TO THE TASK FORCE WORK.
I BEGAN MEETING WEEKLY WITH ALL OF OUR ACADEMIC VICE PRESIDENT.
I THINK THIS WILL BE AN ONGOING ACTIVITY IN THE ONE COLLEGE STRUCTURE AS WE MOVE INTO THAT.
NOT JUST THREE THIS CRISIS, AND I'LL BE ADDING MEETINGS WITH THE INCLUDED AS WELL AS WE MOVE FORWARD.
SO, I'M GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES THAT WE'VE SEEN THAT BEFORE I GO TO THAT.
WOULD ANYBODY LIKE TO ASK A QUESTION.
SOON ENOUGH TO TELL DR. SEABROOKS THANK YOU FOR THAT.
REPORT IS SO GOOD TO HEAR WHAT STUDENTS SERVICES AREAS DOING AND HOW WE'RE SERVING STUDENTS AND NEW AND INNOVATIVE WAYS AND DR BRADDY, THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENT ABOUT EQUITY AND HOW ONE THE ONE COLLEGE STRUCTURE, EVEN THOUGH WE'RE NOT IMPLEMENTED YET, IS HELPING US RESPOND MORE QUICKLY TO THIS CHALLENGE.
SO, THANK YOU FOR HIGHLIGHTING THAT.
ANYONE ELSE? OKAY, SO I'LL START WITH A COUPLE OF THE CHALLENGES.
FIRST OF ALL, WE HAD A LOT OF FACULTY HAD NEVER TAUGHT ONLINE AND OF COURSE, THE FIRST HALF OF THEIR CLASS THIS SEMESTER WITH WAS A FACE TO FACE AND THEN THEY HAD TO QUICKLY TRANSITION TO ONLINE.
WE HAVE EMPLOYEES WHO HAD NEVER WORKED FROM HOME.
A LOT OF EMPLOYEES WERE NOT EQUIPPED WITH TECHNOLOGY.
SO, OUR, IT FOLKS AND YOU'LL HEAR FROM TIM MARSHALL IN A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THE ASPECTS BUT ALL RIGHTY FOLKS.
WORKED TWENTY-FOUR, SEVEN OVER SPRING BREAK IN THE WEEK AFTER TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAD THE TECHNOLOGY THAT NEEDED TO BE ABLE TO WORK FROM HOME SUCCESSFULLY.
ANOTHER CHALLENGE THAT WE'RE ADDRESSING.
WE'RE STILL WORKING ON WORKING THIS OUT IN ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS THAT HOW TO EFFECTIVELY TEACH OUR CTE CLASSES IN A REMOTE ENVIRONMENT.
SO, THERE'S LOTS OF GREAT SOFTWARE AND EVEN AUGMENTED AND VIRTUAL REALITY TOOLS THAT CAN BE USED FOR THINGS LIKE SIMULATION.
SO, OUR FACULTY, AND THE GAMES ARE WORKING TO IDENTIFY APPROPRIATE TOOLS SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES ARE MET IN THIS ENVIRONMENT.
SO, SOME OF THE SUCCESSES, AND I'M REALLY HAPPY TO GET TO SHARE SOME OF THESE WITH YOU.
A FEW, AND THEY'RE A LOT OF OTHER ONES I CAN TELL YOU ABOUT, BUT THESE REALLY DEMONSTRATE HOW OUR EMPLOYEES ARE GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND TO SERVE THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS AND TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER.
OKAY YOU'VE ALREADY GOT THAT SLIDE.
SO, THIS IS A PAGE FROM OUR FACULTY ONE STOP PAGE, AND IT JUST LAUNCHED LAST AS A
[01:05:09]
CENTRAL LOCATION FOR RESOURCES AND INFORMATION.SO OVER SPRING BREAK, WE WERE ABLE TO ADD TWO PAGES DEALING SPECIFICALLY WITH COVID-19.
SO, IF YOU LOOK ACROSS THE TOP, THAT SAYS FACULTY RESOURCES, THEN IT SAYS, COVID-19 AND THEN IT SAYS MOVE ONLINE.
SO, THE MOVE ONLINE WAS JUST DEVELOPED.
IT'S A MINI COURSE DESIGNED TO HELP FACULTY QUICKLY, MOVE THEIR CLASSES ONLINE.
AND YOU CAN SEE CHRIS, CHRISTINA JONES IS LISTED UP THEIR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER.
SHE'S THAT EL CENTRO AND SHE LITERALLY WORKED NONSTOP DURING SPRING BREAK TO PRODUCE THIS COURSE CONTENT AND RESOURCES FOR OUR FACULTY.
AND SHE'S NOT THE ONLY ONE, OF COURSE, THAT SHE'S AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THE KIND OF WORK THAT OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE PUT IN.
JUST ACROSS THE BOARD OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS TO HELP HUNDREDS OF FACULTY MOVE, THEY'RE TEACHING ONLINE AND TO HELP OUR EMPLOYEES GET SETTLED INTO WORKING FROM HOME.
SO, THAT WE CAN CONTINUE TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS WITHOUT INTERRUPTION.
SO, PRIOR TO THE COVID CRISIS, THE FACULTY ONE STOP.
EXCUSE ME? AVERAGE, TWO HUNDRED HITS PER DAY ON MARCH TWENTY THIRD THE FIRST MONDAY AFTER SPRING BREAK SITE HAD OVER THREE THOUSAND HITS ON THAT ONE DAY.
AND SINCE THEN IS AVERAGE OVER FIFTEEN HUNDRED HITS PER DAY, SO BEFORE IT WAS GETTING TWO HUNDRED HITS PER DAY, NOW IT'S FIFTEEN HUNDRED PER TODAY.
SO THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THE, THE VALUE OF THESE RESOURCES, AND THE FACT THAT FACULTY YOU'RE REALLY DIGGING IN AND LEARNING WHAT THEY NEED TO LEARN TO BE ABLE TO DELIVER THEIR INSTRUCTION ONLINE.
AND OUR INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT FOLKS ARE REALLY WORKING HARD TO GET THOSE RESOURCES OUT THERE.
SO, EMPLOYEES ACROSS THE BOARD ARE BRINGING THEIR CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION TO BEAR ON THIS ISSUE, JUST TO MAKE SURE WE'RE SERVING OUR STUDENTS.
WELL, I'VE HEARD STORIES OF THAT FACULTY BEING CREATED IN ART CLASSES, TEACHING ART CLASSES, ONLINE, FASHION DESIGN, HEALTH SCIENCES, AND OTHERS.
THERE'S SOME FACULTY THAT ARE EVEN STUDY THE COVID PANDEMIC AS PART OF THEIR CLASSROOM CURRICULUM.
THEY'VE INCORPORATED IT INTO THEIR CURRICULUM.
SO, GOING TO PULL UP A SHORT VIDEO FROM ONE OF OUR FASHION DESIGN FACULTY MEMBERS.
THAT SHE CREATED FOR HER CLASS, AND YOU CAN SEE THIS IS JUST AGAIN, THIS JUST HAPPENED IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOU.
AND HAD TO GET UP TO SPEED PRETTY QUICKLY.
SPEAKING AS ONE WAS IN THE SAME SITUATION.
I'M NOT TECH SAVVY BUT GUESS WHAT I LEARNED SOME NEW SKILLS.
SO THERE, BUT IF I WANTED TO KEEP MY JOB, SO MY HEADS OFF TO OUR FACULTY.
[VIDEO] CLASSES ONLINE WHEN YOU WOULD THINK YOU HAVE TO BE IN PERSON TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT.
BUT ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES NOT JUST OUR FACULTY ARE BEING CREATIVE AND SUPPORTIVE OF THEIR COLLEAGUES.
SO, FOR EXAMPLE, BY THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK OF ONLINE CLASSES, OUR EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY TEAM HAD ASSISTED MORE THAN TWO HUNDRED FACULTY ONE ON ONE IN MAKING
[01:10:32]
THE TRANSITION TO ONLINE.ONE OF OUR CAMPUS PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT STAFF ASSOCIATIONS IS CONTINUING THEIR LUNCH BUNCH CONVENING USING VIDEO CONFERENCING SOFTWARE.
THEY USED TO HAVE THIS LUNCH ONCE A MONTH, BUT NOW THEY'RE HAVING IT ONCE A WEEK AND THE FIRST DAY THAT THEY DID IT LAST WEEK.
THEY HAD TWENTY PEOPLE SHOW UP.
SO, EMPLOYEES ARE FIGURING OUT CREATIVE WAYS, FUN WAYS TO SUPPORT THEIR COLLEAGUE AND WORKING TO ENSURE THAT NO ONE FEELS ISOLATED IN THEIR WORK.
SO, PERLA IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, NOT ONLY OUR, OUR EMPLOYEES GETTING CREATIVE.
OUR STUDENTS ARE GETTING CREATIVE TO SO, IF YOU LOOK AT THESE PICTURES ARE FROM FIRST SEMESTER, NURSING STUDENTS WHO ARE PRACTICING IV FLUIDS AT HOME.
SO, YOU SEE ON THE LEFT SIDE, THE TWO HANGARS THAT ARE HANGING OVER THE DOOR AND THEY'VE GOT IT TURNED UP THERE.
AND THEN THE OTHER ONES, LIKE, GOT IT FROM THEIR CEILING, THEY'VE ACTUALLY HUNG IT FROM THEIR CEILING.
SO, YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY'S, EVERYBODY'S HAVING TO BE CREATIVE DURING THIS TIME.
SO, ANOTHER BIG SUCCESS IS RELATED TO DUAL CREDIT ANIMATE HAS BEEN WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS OFFICE TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE ATTENDING TO THE UNIQUE NEED OF THE DUAL CREDIT PARTNERS AND THEIR STUDENTS.
SO, OUR FOLKS HAVE BEEN SENDING WEEKLY COMMUNICATIONS TO THE ALMOST EIGHT HUNDRED ISD COORDINATORS COUNSELORS AND PRINCIPLES TO SHARE CHANGES AND UPDATES RELATED TO THE COVID CRISIS IN OUR DISTRICT COMMUNICATIONS TEAM.
A LITTLE BIT LATER ALSO EMAILED ALL OF OUR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS SPECIFICALLY DURING OUR EXTENDED SPRING BREAK WE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH RESOURCES TO HELP HIM PREPARE FOR SUCCESS IN ONLINE CLASSES.
SO, WE'RE DEFINITELY PAYING ATTENTION TO THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF THAT POPULATION AS WELL.
SO, BEFORE I GO ONTO THE NEXT ITEM, DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.
ALRIGHT, SO, REGARDING COMMENCEMENT, WE MADE THE COLLECTIVE DECISION TO DELAY OUR COMMITMENT CEREMONIES UNTIL AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER, DEPENDING ON WHAT'S FEASIBLE.
WE DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT TO CANCEL GRADUATION, BECAUSE IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILY AND THIS IS A BIG CELEBRATION FOR US.
RIGHT? SO, WE WOULDN'T WANT TO MISS THAT.
SO, RATHER THAN CANCELING IS SOME INSTITUTIONS DID.
SO THAT WE CAN STILL HAVE THE STUDENTS WALK ACROSS THE STAGE.
ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT GRADUATION.
AND THEIR FAMILIES TO REALLY CELEBRATE THIS MILESTONE FOR THE STUDENT, AND ALSO FOR THE FAMILY AND CELEBRATION OF THEIR STUDENT.
AND WE HAVE, AND CERTAINLY THIS IS A TIME WITH FAMILIES COME TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE TOGETHER.
WE'VE, YOU KNOW, WE CERTAINLY DISCUSSED DOING THIS VIRTUALLY, BUT THIS IS REALLY ONE OF THOSE TIMES WHERE WE CAN WE REALLY WANT TO PROVIDE THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR FOLKS TO BE ABLE TO CELEBRATE THAT AS, YOU KNOW?
[01:15:02]
SO, MANY OF OUR US STUDENTS NEVER THOUGHT THEY WOULD BE HERE, AND CERTAINLY THEIR FAMILIES DIDN'T THINK THEY WOULD BE HERE.SO, THEY WANT TO CELEBRATE THAT.
SO, WE WILL WORK, AND WE NEED TO GIVE THEM TIME TO PREPARE WHETHER IT'S TO GET OFF WORK OR TRAVEL OR THE THINGS THAT THEY NEED TO DO.
IT'S NOT ALWAYS EASY FOR THE FAMILY MEMBERS TO COME TO COMMITMENTS.
SO, WE WANT TO BE RESPECTFUL OF THAT.
AND BEAKER THAT THEY HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO CELEBRATE.
OKAY, SO MY LAST ITEM IS THE TRANSITION TO ONLINE CLASSES SO DR. MAY ALREADY SHARED WITH YOU THAT ALMOST ONE HUNDRED PERCENT OF OUR CLASSES ARE ONLINE NOW AND, YOU KNOW, IF YOU'RE ROUNDED UP, IT IS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.
THAT'S INCLUDING ALL OF OUR CREDIT CLASSES AS WELL AS OUR NON-CREDIT CLASSES.
IN FACT, OUR WORKREADYU TO YOU WAS ONE HUNDRED PERCENT.
WE'VE PUT ALL OF THOSE ONLINE.
SO, IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CLASSES WE HAVE RIGHT NOW IS ALMOST FIFTEEN THOUSAND.
WE ONLY HAD EIGHTY-FIVE CLASSES THAT WE COULDN'T THAT WE DIDN'T, YOU KNOW, TRANSITION TO ONLINE FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER.
SO THAT, I MEAN, THAT'S A SMALL DROP IN THE BUCKET COMPARED TO FIFTEEN THOUSAND.
SO, DR. MAY ALSO MENTIONED THAT.
WE ALSO HAVE FEWER DROPS THIS SEMESTER, THEN THIS FREE SEMESTER LAST YEAR AT THE SAME POINT.
SO, I DON'T IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT, IF YOU DO, I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER THEM.
BUT TIM MARSHALL IS ALSO GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY ASPECT OF TEACHING IN IN A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT, BUT I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.
HOUR IS THAT DR SEABROOKS AND DR BRADDY ALREAD MENTIONED A LOT OF THE TECHNOLOGY THAT WE'VE USED TO ENABLE THE NEW SERVICES AND THE TRANSITION.
BUT I LIKE TO TOUCH ABOUT IS TOUCH.
ONE IS A COUPLE OF THE ITEMS THAT WERE COME UP AS QUESTIONS, AND PARTICULARLY AROUND US, PROCURING HARDWARE AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS.
BECAUSE BACK IN MARCH, SIXTEENTH, WHEN WE HAD OUR FIRST NEED, AND THE FIRST DAY OF THE REGULAR SPRING BREAK, JOHN, AND I WENT AT THE END OF THAT MEETING, WENT OUT AND ORDERED HOTSPOTS, TABLETS AND LAPTOPS, AN ANTICIPATION OF PROVIDING OUR FACULTY AND STAFF WITH THE EQUIPMENT.
AND SO, THE FIRST TIME, EVEN PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET SOMETHING FROM US, THAT COULD CONNECT THEM TO THE INTERNET.
WHAT HAVE WE FOUND OUT AS DR. MAY SAID IS THAT THE PURCHASING OF THESE DEVICES HAS BECOME CRITICAL OR SO? MANY ORGANIZATIONS AND WE ARE NOT CONSIDERED A HIGH PRIORITY DISTRIBUTION POINT.
SO, WE DID RECEIVE TABLETS AND THESE TABLETS WERE BASICALLY A SAMSUNG ANDROID TABLET.
NO KEYBOARD YOU CAN CONNECT TO THE INTERNET.
WE CAN CONNECT WITH SOME OF OUR SOFTWARE AND IT WAS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF THAT NEEDED CONNECTIVITY AT HOME AND WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF DISTRIBUTING THEM AS WE SPEAK.
WE DID ABOUT A HUNDRED ON ONE DAY.
WE'RE STILL ALLOWED TO BRING FACULTY WANT TO CAMPUS AND STAFF ON THE CAMPUS THAT RATHER QUICKLY DISAPPEARED AND NOW WE'RE SHIPPING THEM OUT AND GROUPS OF FORTY OR FIFTY OUT OF THE DISTRICT SERVICE CENTER.
WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE CHECK THE LAPTOPS THAT WE ORDERED.
THESE WERE ORDERED FOR WHAT WE CONSIDER TO BE PRIORITY FACULTY AND STAFF THAT NEED A HIGHER-LEVEL COMPUTING TO DO THEIR WORK REMOTELY.
WE ORDERED THEM IN ON THE SIXTEENTH OF MARCH.
WE'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WILL COME IN ON THE APRIL THE SIXTEEN.
SO, THEY HAD A FOUR-WEEK WINDOW, AND I EXPECT THAT WINDOW TO BE EXPANDED AS MORE DELIVERIES ARE MOVED OVER TO OTHER ENVIRONMENTS.
AND THEN THE HOTSPOTS THAT WE WERE PURCHASING FOR TO PROVIDE THE STUDENTS WE'VE BEEN TOLD THAT TO EXPECT THEM TOMORROW.
BUT, LIKE, A LOT OF OTHER EXPECTATIONS, THIS IS ABOUT THE FOURTH DELIVERY DATE I'VE BEEN GIVEN.
SO, I'LL, I'LL BELIEVE IT WHEN I SEE IT, WHAT THIS INFUSION OF EQUIPMENT HAS DONE THAT WAS PROVIDED US WITH SOME LOGISTIC HURDLES THAT WE'VE NEVER HAD TO.
WE WERE NEVER SEEN BEFORE BECAUSE WE'VE ALWAYS ACCEPTED EQUIPMENT AND DEVICES.
WE'VE NEVER DISTRIBUTED THEM, AND WE'RE WOEFULLY ILL EQUIPPED TO SEND OUT THOUSANDS OF ANYTHING WHETHER IT'S SOFTWARE HARDWARE OR OTHER COMPLEMENTARY PIECES OF INSTRUCTIONS SO JOHN AND HIS STAFF DISTRICT SERVICE
[01:20:04]
CENTER WE'VE BEEN WORKING AT DIFFERENT WAYS TO GET THESE DEVICES INTO THE HANDS OF THOSE THAT NEED THEM AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO DISTRIBUTING THE REST OF WHAT WE RECEIVE OVER THE NEXT MONTH BEYOND THAT MOST OF THE WORK WE'VE DONE WAS GETTING THE, THE DISTRICT PREPARED TO GO ONLINE.LIKE DR BRADDY SAID, WE'RE NOW NINETY NINE PERCENT AT THE BEGINNING OF THIS.
WE WERE ABOUT THIRTY PERCENT OF OUR SYSTEMS WERE CONDITIONED FOR ELECTRONIC DELIVERY.
WE HAD TO LOAD THOUSANDS, OF COURSE, SECTIONS INTO OUR LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
WE HAD TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TRAINING.
THE DR. BRADDY HAD MENTIONED, WE WERE UPDATING AND INDUCING NEW METHODS OF COMMUNICATION THIS WHOLE NEW WEBEX THAT YOU'RE SEEING WITH SOMETHING BRAND NEW FOR US.
JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO WE MIGRATED TO IT.
WE'RE CREATING NEW TEAMS. THE TEAM SOFTWARE.
WE'RE, WE'RE DOING MORE PROJECT MANAGEMENT REMOTELY WITH A, A TOOL CALLED TRELLO AND PERHAPS OUR BIGGEST HURDLE WAS CONVERTING THE EIGHT WEEKS SEMESTER TO SEVEN WEEKS IN THAT.
WE THOUGHT WE COULD JUST ROLL THAT OVER, BUT WE ENDED UP HAVING TO MANUALLY ADJUST TWENTY-EIGHT THOUSAND STUDENTS.
SO, THEY COULD GET THE APPROPRIATE FINANCIAL AID TO COVER A SEVEN WEEKS SEMESTER THAT TAKES EIGHT WEEKS.
SO, I COULD GO ONCE FOR PROBABLY ANOTHER HOUR.
BUT WHAT I'LL DO IS, I'LL STOP HERE AND SEE IF THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TRANSITION TO ONLINE TECHNOLOGY THAT WE'RE USING.
DO BECAUSE IT IS THE BACKBONE OF HOW STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO TRANSITION TO ONLINE.
AND YOUR STAFF, FOR THE PART YOU HAVE PLAYED AND MAKING SURE STUDENTS COULD CONTINUE THE COURSES.
CELLPHONE ARE IN THE ACADEMIC COURSE DELIVERY AND ALSO TO DO THE SERVICES ANY THOUGHTS.
SO, WE THINK, YOU KNOW, MOBILE FIRST WITH REGARDS TO WHAT WE'RE GOING TO PUT IN FRONT OF THE STUDENT AND, YOU KNOW, THE, THE SOFTWARE THAT WE USE FOR ONLINE INSTRUCTION CAN BE RUN OVER A PHONE ON THE NEW WEBSITE.
THE DR. SEABROOK SHOWED YOU WITH CONDITIONS.
SO THAT IT COULD BE EASILY READ ON A MOBILE DEVICE.
SO, IT'S, IT'S NOT ALWAYS THE, THE MOST OPTIMUM DEVICE BUT IT IS THE ONE THAT'S MOST IN USE.
BUSINESS TO COMPLETE A COURSE OFF THEIR CELL PHONE IN TERMS OF EVERYTHING THAT WOULD BE INVOLVED IN IT? SO, WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE COURSES ARE ACTUALLY MOBILE READY RIGHT NOW THE COURSES HAVE WHAT THEY CALL DIGITAL CONTENT THAT MAY REQUIRE STUDENTS TO USE A WEBSITE OR, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN TYPE A PAPER ON A COURSE, AND I'VE WATCH MY CHILDREN DO IT.
I COULDN'T DO IT, BUT THEY CAN.
SO, IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE CONTENT.
WHAT IS BEING ASKED IN THE COURSE.
I COULD NOT TELL YOU, THOUGH, THE PERCENTAGE, BECAUSE EACH COURSE HAS THE FACULTY CAN PUT IN FRONT OF THE STUDENT DIFFERENT COURSE CONTENT MATERIALS THAT WE HAD THE DISTRICT.
SO THAT WOULD BE KIND OF HARD TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH CAN BE FULLY DONE ON A CELLPHONE.
BUT WE DO HAVE STUDENTS TO TELL US THAT'S THEIR ONLY METHOD OF COMMUNICATION AND THEY'RE STILL MOVING THEIR WAY THROUGH THEIR COURSE WORK.
[01:25:10]
ONLY GOING TO BE TEMPORARY IN THIS ROLE.BUT I'M REALLY ENJOYING THE, THE PEOPLE THAT I'M MEETING AND THE, THE DEDICATION THAT I SEE IN EVERYONE TO, TO SERVING STUDENTS AND SUPPORTING COLLEAGUES THAT THAT'S COME THROUGH LOUD.
AND CLEAR IN EVERY INTERACTION THAT I'VE HAD ACROSS THE BOARD.
SO, IT'S BEEN GREAT THANK YOU.
STEERING THE INSTRUCTIONAL SHIP AND TOGETHER WITH THE IT, PEOPLE AND OTHERS GETTING US TO WHERE WE ARE AGAIN, HAS WILL BE ALSO.
WELL, I THINK WE'LL JUMP RIGHT INTO THE, THE OPERATIONAL SIDE.
WHAT WE'VE DONE IS REALLY CONSOLIDATE OPERATIONS ACROSS CAMPUS.
WHETHER IT BE HR COMMUNICATION.
WE'VE ALSO DONE THE SAME THING WITH THE GRANTS GOING FORWARD AS WELL, AS OUR BUSINESS SERVICES, AND CERTAINLY ONE THING THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT OVER AND OVER.
I COULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT OUR EMPLOYEES REALLY FINDING NEW WAYS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS.
I'M GOING TO LET SHERRI ENRIGHT TALK A BIT ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING AROUND EMPLOYEE CARE AND REMOTE WORKING.
AND OF COURSE, TIM TOUCHED ON A BIT OF THAT.
BUT OBVIOUSLY THERE'S MORE TO IT THAN THAT.
I'M THRILLED TO BE HERE BEFORE YOU TODAY TALKING ABOUT THE GREAT WORK THAT OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE ALSO DONE SIMILAR TO THE ACADEMIC SIDE ON THE STUDENT SUCCESS SIDE.
OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE REALLY COME TOGETHER TO GET THE BULK OF THE WORKFORCE READY TO WORK IN A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT AS YOU MIGHT IMAGINE SEVERAL OF OUR EMPLOYEES THEMSELVES WERE NOT AS TECHNOLOGICALLY SUFFICIENT AS OTHERS, AND SO SIMILAR ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE.
WE'VE HAD TO DO A LOT OF WORK TO HELP OUR EMPLOYEES FUNCTION IN THIS REMOTE ENVIRONMENT, AS DR. MAY MENTIONED EARLIER.
SEVERAL OF THE OPERATIONAL AREAS HAVE BEEN UNIFIED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THIS.
SO, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE UNIFICATION OF THOSE FUNCTIONAL AREAS, AND THEN SUPPORT THE ONE COLLEGE, THE DELIVERY OF HUMAN RESOURCES SERVICES HAS ALSO BEEN RESTRUCTURED.
WE ARE NOW ORGANIZED AROUND FUNCTIONAL AREAS, SUCH AS RECRUITING OR BENEFITS, ET CETERA, AS OPPOSED TO BEING LOCATION BASED OR CAMPUS BASED.
AND IN THAT REGARD, I HAVE ASSIGNED OUR EXISTING HUMAN RESOURCES DIRECTORS TO INTERIM ROLES TO LEAVE THESE UNIFIED TEAMS AS WE WORK THROUGH THIS PANDEMIC.
AND LOOK TO THE FUTURE AND THE ONE COLLEGE ENVIRONMENT, THIS ALLOWS ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES TO RECEIVE A UNIFORM RESPONSE TO THEIR KEY CONCERNS AT THIS TIME OF HEIGHTENED, YOU KNOW, UNCERTAIN THIS IN THEIR LIVES.
WE DID, CERTAINLY DID NOT WANT A SITUATION WHERE ONE LOCATION WAS SAYING, ONE THING IN ONE LOCATION SAYING ANOTHER.
SO, THE UNIFICATION OF THOSE FUNCTIONS HAS COME TOGETHER VERY QUICKLY.
THE HR TEAM HAS STEPPED UP AND REALLY EMBRACED THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE THOSE SKILLS TO PROVIDE A MUCH BETTER DELIVERY OF HUMAN RESOURCES SERVICES IN THIS PANDEMIC THAT WE ARE EXPERIENCING.
I'LL PAUSE FOR A MOMENT AND ASK IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE RESTRUCTURE.
WE JUST NEAR THE END OF MARCH, SO WHEN HE UNIFIED THE IT, HR, MARKETING AND FACILITIES BUSINESS SERVICES AREAS.
AS DOCTOR MAY ALSO MENTIONED IN ADDITION TO THE HR UNIFICATION AND RESTRUCTURING.
WE HAVE ALSO ESTABLISHED AND EMPLOYEE CARE AND REMOTE WORKING RAPID RESPONSE TEAM IN ADDITION TO REPRESENTATIVES FROM HR.
HOWEVER, THIS IS A CROSS FUNCTIONAL TEAM WITH REPRESENTATION AND A GREAT DEAL OF ASSISTANCE FROM IT, COMMUNICATIONS AND THESE STUDENTSÂ SERVICES AND
[01:30:03]
ACADEMIC AREAS.THIS TEAM IS CHARGED WITH SUPPORTING OUR EMPLOYEES IN THIS TRANSITION TO A VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.
WE HAVE FOR INSTANCE, DEVELOPED AN EMPLOYEE TOOLKIT.
THAT IS ONLINE WHERE THEY CAN GO FOR RESOURCES, RELATING TO WORKING, VIRTUALLY OR TRAINING ON VARIOUS TECHNOLOGIES, AS HAS BEEN MENTIONED.
WE'VE USED A LOT OF DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES AND MOVING TO THIS VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.
MY TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM HAS STOOD UP SEVERAL OF OUR COURSES ONLINE IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.
SO THAT WE CAN GET EMPLOYEES THE RESOURCES THAT THEY NEED.
WE HAVE ALSO DEVELOPED GUIDELINES AND RESOURCES FO WORKING REMOTELY.
I THINK HAS BEEN MENTIONED, THIS IS A NEW ENVIRONMENT FOR US, AND EMPLOYEES WHO ARE USED TO SEEING ONE ANOTHER SOCIALIZING AND SAYING, HI ARE FINDING SOME CHALLENGES IN WORKING VIRTUALLY.
SO, WE'RE PROVIDING TOOLS ABOUT HOW TO KEEP THAT CONNECTEDNESS.
HOW CAN MANAGER STAY IN TOUCH WITH EMPLOYEES? WE ARE LOOKING AT THE WELLNESS NEEDS OF OUR EMPLOYEES AS WELL.
AS DR FREEMON MENTIONED SHE'S BEEN WORKING ON THE STUDENT SIDE OF THE MENTAL HEALTH.
WE'RE HAVING A MEETING LATER THIS WEEK OR NEXT WEEK WITH THAT SAME ENTITY TO THINK ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS WE CAN DO FOR THE WELL, BEING OF OUR EMPLOYEES.
AND, OF COURSE, WE ALSO HAVE THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE A PROGRAM, AND THEN A BIG PART OF THE EMPLOYEE CARE, AND REMOTE WORKING TEAM HAS BEEN AROUND THAT CONCEPT OF DELIVERY OF TECHNOLOGY.
AND HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THAT? I KNOW.
YOU'VE HEARD A LOT ON THE STUDENT SIDE, AND YOU'VE ALSO HEARD FROM TIM, BUT I WILL PAUSE A MOMENT AND ASKED TIM IF HE WOULD LIKE TO ADD ANYTHING ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY ON THE EMPLOYEE SIDE.
THANKS TO TIM AND HIS TEAM HE AND DR LOCKET AND THE OTHERS HAVE BEEN WORKING TIRELESSLY TO GET WITH.
SET OF CHALLENGES WITH STAFF AND CONTINUING OPERATIONS FULL TIME WHERE WE'RE, YOU'RE DOING INSTRUCTION.
THAT CAN HAPPEN ASYNCHRONOUSLY BUT TYPICALLY WITH OUR STAFF.
SO, THE WORK HAS BEEN MAKING SURE THAT THE STAFF THAT HAVE TO WORK IN A SECURE ENVIRONMENT, HAD WHAT WE CALL, AND I THINK WE'VE DONE THAT BEFORE.
SO, NOW WE'RE GOING TO UNDER THREE OR FOUR HUNDRED TO TWELVE, THE THIRTEEN HUNDRED, AND WE HAD TO CONFIGURE SYSTEMS TO ALLOW THAT THAT AMOUNT OF SECURITY AND BANDWIDTH TO OCCUR FROM PLACES WE NEVER EXPECTED WITHIN THE, THE PROJECT MANAGEMENT SCOPE IS WE THOUGHT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND TAKE A BREATH WITH SOME OF OUR PROJECTS, BUT THAT HASN'T BEEN THE CASE FOR SOME PROJECTS THAT WE'VE ROLLED OFF BECAUSE THEY JUST DIDN'T MAKE SENS ANYMORE.
SOME THINGS THAT WERE MAYBE SPECIFIC TO A SINGLE INSTITUTION OR SPECIFIC TO A SINGLE DEMOGRAPHIC AREA.
WE'RE NOW PICKING UP OTHER PROJECTS AS A AT A FASTER PACE.
TO SUPPORT THE REMOTE WORK ONE OF THEM WAS WORKING WITH DR. SEABROOK OR STAFF CREATED A TEMPORARY DATABASE STRUCTURE TO ALLOW FOR US TO KEEP ALL THOSE STUDENT RECORDS THAT WE'RE REACHING OUT TO THROUGH THE CALL, THE CALLING EFFORT IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS SAFE AND SECURE PROGRAMMING FOR OTHER ACTIVITIES WITH REGARDS TO THE SIX STEPS OF ENROLLMENT.
A LOT OF THAT ENROLLMENT IN REGISTRATION FOR NEW STUDENTS OCCURRED IN PAPER WHERE A STUDENT WOULD BRING THAT PAPER TO ONE OF OUR COLLEGES AND TURN IT OVER TO A REGISTRAR.
WE NOW HAVE TO DO THAT ONLINE AND WE'RE STILL KNOCKING DOWN THOSE BARRIERS TO, TO MAKE SURE OUR ENTIRE ENROLLMENT PROCESS CAN BE HANDLED ONLINE.
BUT FROM A TRAINING STANDPOINT, LIKE, SHERRY MENTIONED.
WE HAVE FIVE OR SIX DIFFERENT PLATFORMS WHERE WE DELIVER TRAINING TO OUR STAFF CORNERSTONE LINKEDIN LIVE TITLE, NINE SECURITY TRAINING.
WE'VE HAD OVER SEVENTEEN HUNDRED SESSIONS TAKEN BY OUR, OUR EMPLOYEES.
THOSE ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE ONES THAT THE FACULTY TOOK THESE ARE COURSES IN HOW TO DEAL REMOTELY WITH YOUR BOSS, HOW TO DEAL REMOTELY WITH YOUR STAFF,
[01:35:01]
HOW TO, YOU KNOW, HOW TO REDUCE STRESS.AND WE'RE SEEING AS A LEADER IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, IN THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE WORLD, AND OUR STARLINK GROUP HAS ALSO TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF SOME OF THESE SAME TYPES OF COURSES.
AND WE'VE HAD THIRTEEN HUNDRED SESSIONS SINCE LAST WEEK TAKEN BY COLLEGES THROUGHOUT THE STATE TO TAKE THOSE SAME TYPES OF COURSES THAT WE'RE OFFERING TO OUR OWN STAFF HERE AT DCCCD.
SO, I'LL STOP THERE AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS I CAN ANSWER.
IT DOESN'T STOP PEOPLE FROM USING IT PERSONALLY, BUT WE REQUEST THAT THEY USE.
WEBEX IS THE STANDARD ZOOM HAS IF YOU'VE READ THE NEWS, THEY HAVE SOME SECURITY ISSUES.
NEEDS TO BE ON A ON A CONVENIENT ONLINE MEETIN WITH THEIR STAFF OR ACROSS.
IS THAT CORRECT? WE'RE TRANSITIONING TO THE VERSION THAT YOU HAVE SEEN NOW, FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS WE'RE ROLLING THAT OUT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DISTRICT.
IT'S WE'VE HAD WEBEX BEFORE, BUT IT WAS IN HOUSE VERSION WITH REDUCED FUNCTIONALITY.
WE'RE MOVING TO THEIR CLOUD ENTERPRISE VERSION, WHICH, LIKE, DR FREEMON MENTIONED HAS SOME FUNCTIONALITY THAT ALLOWS US TO BRANCH OUT IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS.
SO, THIS VERSION, IT CAN DO A THOUSAND DIFFERENT A THOUSAND PEOPLE CAN BE ON A MEETING LIKE THIS.
WE CAN ALSO SET UP EVENTS IN THE FUTURE TO WHERE TEN THOUSAND PEOPLE CAN PARTICIPATE, OR AT LEAST WATCH THROUGH A STREAMIN SERVICE.
SO, THIS IS A VERY ROBUST PLATFORM.
I WILL ALSO PAUSE FOR A MOMENT.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE EMPLOYEE CARE, AND REMOTE WORKING RAPID RESPONSE TEAM.
BEEN DOING, ESPECIALLY IN THE AREA CARING FOR EMPLOYEES IN THIS VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.
ONE OF THEM, OF COURSE, IS BEING THE OPPORTUNITY TO SOCIALIZE WITH OTHERS THAT, FOR ME, THAT'S A CHALLENGE.
SO I'M GLAD THAT Y ÂALL HAVE TAKEN STEPS TO TRY TO ADDRESS THIS TO THE EXTENT THAT IT CAN BE ADDRESSED.
AND I FORGOT IF YOU WERE SOMEONE ELSE, THAT REFERENCE MUCH.
BUT I GENERALLY LIKE THAT SUPPORT OR REALLY ANY GROUP TO BE ABLE TO GET TOGETHER LIKE THAT SOCIALLY.
I THINK THAT WAS DR. BRADDY THAT MENTIONED THAT.
BUT WE ARE EXPLORING THINGS, LIKE, TRYING TO DO A LUNCHTIME, YOGA CLASS THROUGH WEBEX OR A GUIDED MEDITATION CLASS.
SO, WE REALLY ARE TRYING TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT SOCIAL NATURE AND THE, THE WELLNESS NEEDS OF OUR EMPLOYEES DURING THIS TIME.
THE LAST UPDATE I DID WANT TO PROVIDE WAS ON OUR ONE COLLEGE LEADERSHIP TALENT POOLS, THEY HAVE PROCEEDED IN A TIMELY FASHION DESPITE A PANDEMIC WE ARE IN THE EXPRESSION OF INTEREST PHASE, GIVEN THE PANDEMIC AS WELL.
AS THE UPCOMING HOLIDAY ON FRIDAY.
EXTENDING THE TIME IN WHICH TO SUBMIT AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST THAT WAS ORIGINALLY SLATED FOR THIS FRIDAY BUT WE WILL BE EXTENDING THAT UNTIL MONDAY, APRIL 13TH, AND THE CLOSE OF BUSINESS.
AND THEN THE NEXT PHASES WILL FOLLOW WITHIN OUR EXISTING TIMELINE IN THAT PROJECT WILL STAY ON TRACK.
AND THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT UNLESS ANYONE HAS ANY QUESTIONS.
JOE YOUÂRE ON, SORRY ABOUT THAT.
CASH RESERVED AND LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT FIRST.
[01:40:02]
BEFORE THEY'RE ALL RUNNING TOGETHER RIGHT NOW WITH ALL THESE WEBEX MEETINGS WE HAVE, BUT WE WANTED TO JUST UPDATE YOU ON WHERE WE START WITH OUR END OF LAST YEAR BALANCE IS THAT'S THE STARTING POINT, WHEN WE KNOW WHAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE OF UNCOMMITTED CASH THAT WE CAN A USE FOR CASH RESERVES.THEN THE FIRST THING WE DO IS WE PULL THE TWO MONTHS REQUIRED CASH RESERVES OFF THE TOP THAT SAYS SEVENTY EIGHT MILLION.
AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE OUR END OF THE YEAR COMMITMENT CARRY FORWARDS.
NOT EVERYTHING IS RECEIVED BY AUGUST THIRTY FIRST THAT WE HAVE PURCHASE ORDERS FOR AND THEY WILL CARRY UNTIL THE NEXT YEAR.
AND THEN WE ALWAYS HAVE IS PUT IN THE BUDGET BOOK.
SOME SPECIAL ITEMS THAT ARE TYPICALLY SOME SMALLER FACILITY TYPE REQUESTS OR THINGS TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT WE HAVE ALWAYS USED FOR THE COLLEGES HAVE USED THEIR CASH RESERVES FOR WHAT WE HAVE DONE IS, IS ALSO THAT THE BOARD APPROVE FOR THE TIME BEING IS TO GO FORWARD WITH FIFTY-EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE GEO BOND PROJECTS.
THE THREE PROJECTS WE TALKED ABOUT THE NORTH LIKE CONSTRUCTION SCIENCE BUILDING, THE CEDAR VALLEY HVAC REMODEL AND THE EL CENTRO WEST.
ATRIUM AREA TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE FOR EARLY COLLEGE, HIGH SCHOOLS THERE AND THAT MONEY.
WE'LL COME BACK WHEN WE ACTUALLY, AS YOU BOND.
SO THAT'S JUST A TEMPORARY USE OF CASH RESERVES AT THIS POINT.
SO, WE SHOW ALL OF THESE, BUT IT IS POINT IN TIME THAT MONEY WOULD GET PAID BACK AND IN THE EMERGENCY MEETING.
DR. MAY SAID WE NEEDED TO EARMARK TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS OF FOR COVID-19 EXPENSES.
SO, THAT'S WHAT WE PUT IN THERE NOW THAT TOO IS A TEMPORARY PLACEHOLDER BECAUSE AS WE GO THROUGH, AND WE HAVE FEMA BILLING CARE ACT REIMBURSEMENT THAT WE CAN GET.
BUT WHAT WE WANTED TO DO WAS MAKE SURE THAT WE HAD THOSE FUNDS AVAILABLE TO REACT TO ALL THE PANDEMIC PRICES.
SO, AT THE END, THE THAT WE STILL HAVE ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-EIGHT MILLION DOLLARS OF UNCOMMITTED CASH RESERVES.
AND BEFORE I'LL LEAVE THAT, I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR ANY QUESTIONS OF WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT ON THE CASH RESERVE.
LET ME LET ME JUST COME IN ON ONE THING THERE.
YOU KNOW, AGAIN, HAVING A LITTLE BIT OF EXPERIENCE ON DEALING WITH FEMA.
FROM MY IN MY PREVIOUS LIFE AND WORKING WITH DISASTERS AND WORKING THROUGH THAT ONE OF THE THINGS YOU WANT TO DO IS SET UP A GENERAL LEDGER ACCOUNT RIGHT AWAY.
SO THAT WE CAN EASILY HIGHLIGHT THOSE ITEMS BY DOING THAT TWENTY MILLION.
EVEN THOUGH A BIG PART OF THAT WILL BE REIMBURSED THERE'LL BE OTHER THINGS COMING BACK IN TO COVER THAT WE WANTED TO SET THAT UP.
SO, THAT WE, WE COULD ACT IN THE WAY THAT WAS IN THE BEST INTEREST OF STUDENTS TRACK IT EASILY.
AND THEN WHEN THE TIME COMES FOR REPORT, THEN THERE'S GOING TO BE A MYRIAD OF WAYS OF DOING THAT PART OF THESE DOLLARS ARE GOING TO BE COMING BACK OUT OF FEMA, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES.
SOME OF IT WILL GO TO THE GOVERNOR.
SOME OF THAT WILL COME DIRECTLY TO INSTITUTIONS.
AND SO THERE, THERE'S A WHOLE VARIETY OF THINGS THAT ARE THERE.
BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WAS TO HAVE SOMETHING IN PLACE AND, AND FRANKLY, WITH THE WORDS COVID-19 WRITTEN OUT BESIDE THEM.
SO THAT WE WOULD BE ABLE TO ACT THAT EASILY.
IN THE FISCAL YEAR, WE'RE I'M PRETTY SOUND FINANCIAL FOOTING CORRECT OR NOT THAT WE MAY HAVE CHALLENGES, BUT IT'S NOT CERTAIN BECAUSE THEY'VE JUST BE PROJECTIONS IN TERMS OF YOU BEING ABLE TO SEE THE LAY OF THE LAN UP TO THAT POINT.
NEXT, BUT I, I REALLY SEE THAT WHERE WE'RE AT AND THIS IS BASICALLY DUE TO, AS DR MAY STARTED THE CONVERSATION WITH THE PHYSICAL FISCAL STRENGTH THAT THIS BOARD IS MAINTAIN ON HIS FINANCES.
THAT WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN, EVEN WHEN WE DID OUR SCENARIO TESTING OF A PANDEMIC AND A VIRUS SPREAD OR HACKING ATTACK, ALL THESE THINGS HAPPENED TO US.
WE WERE REALLY IN THE BEST FINANCIAL SHAPE TO BE ABLE TO WEATHER IN A STORM.
EVEN THOSE REQUIRED TWO MONTHS OF CASH RESERVE ARE REALLY ENOUGH TO TAKE CARE
[01:45:03]
OF MOST INSTANCES OF WHAT WE HAVE.BUT IT BECAUSE WE HAVE THESE THAT WERE ABLE TO DO THESE FREEDOMS SUCH AS BE ABLE TO CONTINUE WITH THE GEO BOND PROJECTS THAT CURRENTLY WE WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING WITH.
SO, THIS IS, THIS IS THE FLEXIBILITY AND OPTIONS.
I LIKE TO BE ABLE TO BRING TO THE BOARD AND SO WE CAN DO THIS OR WE CAN DO THIS AND OPTIONS ARE BETTER THAN HAVE ONLY ONE WAY OF DOING THINGS.
I EVEN SERVED ON THE BOARD, THIS BOARD IS ALWAYS BEEN FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE.
MAN, TO KEEP US IN A GOOD FINANCIAL POSITION.
NOW, WE HAVE HAD DOWNTURNS BEFORE IT'S POSSIBLE THAT WE MIGHT FACE A DOWNTURN AND TWENTY, TWENTY-ONE, TWENTY AND TWENTY-TWO.
WE ALWAYS MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO BE ABLE TO COPE WITH THOSE DOWNTURNS AND FUNDING.
CORRECT AND WE HAVE ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-EIGHT MILLION AND AVAILABLE IN THE RESERVES SAYS A THIRTY-ONE, TWENTY NINETEEN WITH WHAT YOU HAVE BUDGETED AND COMMITTED SO FAR.
WHEN WILL WE TAKE? WELL, THOSE COVID-19 EXPENDITURES.
I THINK THIS IS AN IFFY TOTAL, WE DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IS GOING TO BE SPENT, AND IT COULD GO UP.
BUT AT WHAT POINT WOULD YOU BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE LEVEL OF OUR CASH RESERVES? MILLION, THEN THAT'S PROBABLY THE TIME THAT WE'RE GOING TO START WATCHING IT BECAUSE WE'RE GETTING CLOSER TO THAT RESERVE CASH.
WE CONSIDER THE TWO MONTHS OF CASH RESERVES THAT SEVENTY-EIGHT MILLION IS MONEY.
AND UNLESS WE JUST ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.
SO, THE IDEA IS, WE ALWAYS MAINTAIN THAT LEVEL AS MUCH AS WE CAN.
AND THERE HAVE TO BE SOME PRETTY TRYING TIMES TO DO FOR US OR TO MAKE A RECOMMENDATION TO ACTUALLY START DIPPING IN THERE.
AND IF WE DID THAT IN THERE, WE'D HAVE TO START BUDGETING TO FIND A WAY TO PUT THE MONEY BACK.
BUDGET PARALLEL HOUR ANSWERING QUESTIONS, PERLA IF YOU CAN GO TO THE AGENDA ON PAGE SEVENTY SEVEN FOR ME AND I'LL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS WHILE HE'S TAKEN THE SCREEN THERE.
3:13:05DO WE HAVE ANY PEOPLE WORKING IN TERMS OF THESE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS RIGHT NOW? HOW WE HANDLE IN THAT? I'M GOING TO FOR THE AGENDA THAT WE HAVE.
I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT BUDGET PERSON AND TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE UPDATE, THEN I'LL TALK ABOUT FACILITIES AND ALSO WRAPPED UP WITH HOW WE'RE HANDLING THINGS DURING THIS WITH PURCHASING.
TRUSTEE JAMESON YOU HAVE THE FLOOR.
DOES THAT REFLECT THE UNENCUMBERED CASH RESERVES PRIOR TO US VOTING A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO TO REDUCE OUR CASH RESERVES KIND OF LET ME KNOW, IS ALL THAT HAPPENED CLOSE TO THE SAME TIMING.
AND HOW IS THAT GOING TO AFFECT SINCE THERE'S SOME UNFORESEEN EXPENSES HERE OF WHAT WE MAY NEED TO REVISIT IN TERMS OF THE OVERALL CASH RESERVE.
THAT'S A GOOD A GOOD QUESTION.
AND IT TAKES I, I DON'T WANT TO SPEND TOO LONG ON THIS.
BUT ONE OF THE REASONS, WHEN YOU LOOK AT, WHEN WE CHANGE THE NUMBER OF MONTHS, IT DID NOT HAVE ANY AFFECT ON WHAT ARE STARTING CASH RESERVES ARE FOR THE YEAR AND WON'T HAVE ANY EFFECT.
ON NEXT HERE, IT IS A BOTTOM NUMBER LIKE IT SHOWS ONCE ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-EIGHT MILLION.
RIGHT NOW, IF THAT NUMBER WAS ZERO, WE WOULD ONLY HAVE OUR SEVENTY-EIGHT MILLION OF TWO MONTHS OF WORTH OF OF CASH RESERVES.
[01:50:02]
WE WANT TO KEEP.SO, THAT'S WHY WE TAKE IT OFF THE TOP.
SO, TO SPEAK IS WE TAKE THAT TO MONTHS OUT.
SO, WE'RE NOT EVEN LOOKING AT IT.
AND THEN WE LOOK AT ANY OTHER THINGS.
WE MAYBE WANT TO DO FOR THE YEAR AND AS WHAT WAS IN THE AGREEMENT, AND WE WILL BRING EVERYTHING TO THE BOARD.
WE CAN'T COMMIT THIS WITHOUT COMING BACK TO THE BOARD FOR USE OF THOSE CASH RESERVE.
THAT'S WHY I FIGURED THAT WAS THE CASE IS, IS THAT TWENTY MILLION FOR THE CODE WITH NINETEEN ONE COMING OUT OF SOME OF THAT COULD POTENTIAL TO SURPLUS CASH ON HAND THAT WE VOTED TO KEEP? AND, I'LL GET IT INTO A LITTLE BIT MORE ON THE BUDGET UPDATE.
BUT IF WE HAVE THE EXPENSE SAVINGS DURING THIS CURRENT YEAR, WE MIGHT USE SOME OF THAT, RATHER THAN DIP INTO CASH RESERVES.
SHE'S GOING THROUGH MY ONLINE, SO I'M GOING TO PUT HER MS ZIMMERMANN ASK YOUR QUESTION.
I KNOW THAT FORT WORTH APPRAISAL DISTRICT SAID THAT BECAUSE OF COVID THEY ARE RUNNING BEHIND IN THEIR EVALUATIONS, AND THAT THEY WILL NOT BE SENDING OUT THEIR PAPERWORK AS USUAL TIMING.
WE HEARD ANYTHING AT ALL FROM THE DALLAS APPRAISAL DISTRICT GALA.
MONTHLY REVENUE AND EXPENDITURE REPORT AND JUST.
JUST TO GIVE SOME COMFORT LEVEL OF WHERE WE'RE AT THIS YEAR I'M GOING TO GO THROUGH A FEW OF THESE LINE ITEMS. I DON'T KNOW WE DO THIS.
SO, THIS IS A PERFECT TIME TO JUST BE ABLE TO TELL YOU WHAT OUR OPERATIONAL FISCAL STANCE LOOKS LIKE UNDER OUR REVENUES.
THE FIRST LINE OF STATE APPROPRIATIONS THAT'S TRACKING IS IT ALWAYS HAS THE STATE AT RIGHT NOW.
WE HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING FOR SURE THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE ANY ADJUSTMENT TO IT.
A LITTLE BIT OF UNDERSTANDING OF WHILE THE STATE GIVES US MONEY, THEY GIVE US WHAT'S CALLED A TEN PAY.
WE ONLY GET PAID FROM THE STATE TEN MONTHS OUT OF TWELVE.
THE FIRST, TWO MONTHS IN SEPTEMBER AND OCTOBER, IT'S ABOUT TWELVE PERCENT OF THE TOTAL, THEN APPROXIMATELY A LITTLE UPGRADE PERCENT IS SPREAD OUT.
ARE THE REST OF THE MONEY IS SPREAD OUT EIGHT PERCENT A MONTH FOR THE REMAINING EIGHT MONTHS.
WE DO NOT GIVE STATE APPROPRIATIONS IN JULY OR AUGUST.
SO THAT'S A DRIVE PERIOD NOW AS WE'RE GOING THROUGH.
WE'RE COMING UP ON THE PERIOD.
WHERE WE'VE ALREADY GOTTEN MARCHES STATE APPROPRIATIONS, AND NEXT WEEK WE WILL GET APRIL'S APPROPRIATIONS.
SO, THERE'S REALLY ONLY TWO MONTHS LEFT OF THE STATE.
THAT I THINK IS PROBABLY, AT THIS POINT IN TIME LOOKS LIKE THERE WILL BE NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THAT.
SO, WE FEEL THAT STATE APPROPRIATIONS IS GOING TO STAY WHERE IT'S AND BEFORE I MOVE OFFICE STATE, IS THERE ANY QUESTIONS FROM THAT OR BETTER YET? LET ME, LET ME DO A LITTLE BIT OF UPDATE OF WHAT WE'RE WATCHING AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT BEFORE OUR STATE APPROPRIATIONS COMES FROM WHAT'S CALLED GENERAL REVENUE.
GENERAL REVENUES ARE THINGS LIKE SALES TAX RECEIPT, OIL AND GAS PRODUCTION REVENUE AUTO SALES HOTEL.
RECEIPT I MENTIONED ALL THOSE BECAUSE THOSE ARE THE ONES WE'RE WATCHING DO TO ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING WITH THE SHELTER IN PLACE, THE STAY AT HOME AND HOW PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING OUT AS MUCH AS THEY HAVE.
WE'RE GOING TO BE WATCHING THAT.
THE COMPTROLLER'S OFFICE HAS ONLY PUBLISHED THEIR REPORT THROUGH FEBRUARY.
I'M WAITING TO SEE WHAT MARCH LOOKS LIKE.
AND ALSO, APRIL, THE GOOD NEWS IS THE GENERAL REVENUE TAX RECEIPTS WERE UP TWELVE-POINT SEVEN PERCENT TO THE COMPTROLLER'S BUDGET ESTIMATE THROUGH THAT.
FEBRUARY TIMEFRAME, SO WE WERE ACTUALLY AHEAD ON RECEIPTS AND THE STATE, BUT
[01:55:04]
WE KNOW THERE'S GOING TO BE AN IMPACT, BUT IT IS WAY TOO EARLY TO TALK ABOUT WHAT THAT'S GOING TO LOOK LIKE.WE'VE GOT TO GO THROUGH A COUPLE MORE MONTHS AND SEE WHAT THE RECEIPTS, WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE RECEIPTS AND THEN THEN GET AN IDEA.
THE STATE MAY BE DOING SOMETHING, BUT UNTIL THEY ACTUALLY COME OUT, OR THE COMPTROLLER MAKES A FORECAST REVISION, THE CHANGES.
AND SO, IT'S REALLY OUR INNUENDO IS ABOUT WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN.
SO, ANY QUESTIONS ON STATE MONEY, SO FAR.
OKAY, TALKING ABOUT TUITION IN CERTAIN AREAS THE FIRST LINE OF TUITION IS WHAT WE CALL GROWTH TUITION AND THEN WE REDUCE IT BY THINGS.
SO, LIKE, THE DUAL CREDIT WAIVERS AND DISCOUNTS THAT, WE HAVE WHAT ARE KEY PEGS SET.
ASIDE KEY PEG AGAIN IS THE TEXAS PUBLIC EDUCATION GRANTS, THAT AWARDS MONEY FOR STUDENTS TO HELP HIM WITH SCHOOL.
THEN WE COME UP WITH A NET, BUT THE NET FAR THIS YEAR IS ALMOST TWO PERCENTAGE POINTS OF HEAD OF WHERE WE WERE LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME.
IT'S DOWN BY TWO MILLION DOLLARS, BUT OUR ONE POINT TWO MILLION DOLLARS.
BUT, WE'RE, WE'RE STILL AHEAD FROM WHERE WE BUDGETED OF WHERE WE'RE GOING TO BE.
SO, WE HAVE TAKEN SOME ACTION OF HELPING STUDENTS WITH A HUNDRED PERCENT REFUNDS ON DROP CLASSES AND OTHER THINGS.
BUT WE BELIEVE WE CAN BUILD EITHER IN THE CARE ACT, OR OUR FEMA OR, OR SOMETHING THAT WE CAN RECOVER THOSE TYPES OF MONEY.
BUT WE'RE DOING THINGS TO MAKE SURE THE STUDENTS ARE HELPED IN THIS TIME OF THE.
SO, I DON'T THINK THAT'S GOING TO HAVE ANY IMPACT ON OUR CURRENT OPERATING BUDGET.
AND THIS IS GOING TO, TO, TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT TUITION MONEY, AS YOU WILL KNOW WE REGISTER FOR SEMESTERS ALL DURING THE YEAR.
WHEN I FIRST STARTED IN THE THIS BUSINESS, YOU HAD A BIG INFLUX OF CASH IN SEPTEMBER OR AUGUST, SEPTEMBER, THEN YOU HAD ANOTHER ONE AROUND CHRISTMAS, AND THEN YOU HAD A LITTLE ONE COMES SUMMER BECAUSE WE HAVE SO MUCH WE'RE FACING COLLECTING TUITION MONEY ALMOST ALL YEAR LONG THERE'S STILL IS A LARGER PORTION OF IT.
THAT COMES IN JULY, AUGUST TIMEFRAME, BUT THEN WE, WE BECAUSE OF LATE START CLASSES AND SEMESTERS.
THERE'S A PRETTY GOOD AMOUNT OF SEPTEMBER AND AGAIN, DECEMBER IN JANUARY.
THEY'RE NOT AS BIG OF PEAKS AS THEY USED TO BE IN THE, AND, YOU KNOW, TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO.
IF THERE'S NO QUESTION ON TUITION, I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT TAX.
IF YOU WORK ON THE LINE ITEM, WE HAVE COLLECTED TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-FOUR MILLION DOLLARS.
THAT SAID NINETY-EIGHT-POINT THREE PERCENT OF OUR BUDGET AN AMOUNT.
THAT IS A FULL PERCENTAGE POINT AHEAD OF WHERE WE WERE LAST YEAR AT THIS TIME.
AND THE BIG RUSH STARTING ABOUT NOVEMBER, ESCALATING TO CRESCENDOS IN DECEMBER, JANUARY, AND QUITE FRANKLY, EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE DO FEBRUARY FIRST.
BECAUSE THE TAX OFFICE IS STILL PROCESSING PAYMENTS.
WE GET A GOOD AMOUNT IN FEBRUARY ALSO, THEN THE REST OF THE YEAR IS PRETTY MUCH SMALLER DOLLARS, ANYWHERE FROM THREE TO FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS UP TO MAYBE ALMOST A MILLION DOLLARS.
BUT THE BIG MONEY FOR TAXES ALL COMES IN, RIGHT IN THE WINTER MONTHS AND MATCH THE MONEY WE USE WHEN WE GET TO THE POINT THE SUMMER MONTHS, WHEN WE DON'T GET STATE APPROPRIATIONS WHEN WE'RE STILL MAKING PAYROLL AND OTHER THINGS THAT WE TURN INTO A DEFICIT SPENDING UNIT.
AND WE START USING THAT MONEY THAT WE HAD GOTTEN ALL IN THAT TIMEFRAME RIGHT AROUND THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.
NOW AS MS. ZIMMERMANN POINTED OUT.
WE HAD A MEETING WITH THE DALLAS APPRAISAL DISTRICT LAST WEEK, AND THEY TO OUR END OF THE SHELTER IN PLACE AND THE ISSUE WITH THAT.
THE LONGER IT GOES IS, THEY ACTUALLY HAVE TO GET BACK INTO THE OFFICE TO START TURNING OUT ALL THE THINGS THAT THEY DO.
THE TAX NOTICES STARTING THE PROTEST PROCESS EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAVE TO DO TO BE ABLE TO TRY TO HAVE A CERTIFIED ROLE BY JULY.
TWENTY FIFTH, WHICH IS A LEGISLATED DATE SO FAR, THE LEGISLATE OR NO, BUT THE
[02:00:01]
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, NOBODY'S MOVED THAT DATE.THAT COULD CHANGE AS WE GET INTO THIS.
BUT, IF THEY ARE ABLE TO GO BACK AT THE END OF, MAY, THEY'LL PROBABLY BE ABLE TO CATCH UP, BUT THEY'LL STILL BE ON THE LATER INTO THE SCHEDULE.
IF IT GOES ON INTO JUNE, IF WE'RE STILL IN SHELTER AND PLACE MIDJUNE, IT IS PROBABLY GOING TO CHANGE THE WHOLE PROCESS WE HAVE ON A TAX YEAR OF GETTING THEIR APPRAISALS DONE AND MOVING THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS.
WE DO KNOW, AT THIS TIME, THE COMMERCIAL IS UP TWENTY ONE PERCENT.
I'LL SAY THAT AGAIN COMMERCIAL RIGHT NOW IS UP TWENTY ONE PERCENT RESIDENTIAL IS UP ABOUT NINE PERCENT, BUT THESE ARE PRELIMINARY NUMBERS AND THEY ALWAYS GO DOWN AS WE MOVE CLOSURE TO THE CERTIFY, THE AMOUNTS.
SO, YOU KNOW, WE, WE VERY POSSIBLY COULD SAY LARGER INCREASES, ESPECIALLY ON THE COMMERCIAL, BUT THE RESIDENTIAL, AND THERE MAY BE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THAT ARE MADE TO TRY TO HELP A RESIDENTIAL OWNER OUT.
WE, WE HAVE NOTHING IN PLACE ON THAT YET.
BUT THERE PROBABLY THINGS ARE GOING TO BE MOVING FORWARD.
I WILL REMIND YOU THE PROPERTY VALUES ARE ASSESSED AS OF JANUARY FIRST, EACH YEAR.
SO, JANUARY FIRST, TWENTY IS WHEN THEY MADE THE, THE THAT'S THE STAKE IN THE GROUND.
IF YOU WILL, WHEN THEY START THE, OR WHAT YOUR PROPERTIES SUPPOSED TO BE A PRICE THAT, SO, THOSE NUMBERS REALLY WON'T CHANGE UNLESS, AS THEY GO THROUGH PROTEST AND WITH COMMERCIAL BE UP TWENTY ONE PERCENT, THEY'RE PROBABLY GOING TO BE A LOT OF PROTESTS FROM THE COMMERCIAL SIDE.
WE HAVE A QUESTION FROM TRUSTEE ZIMMERMANN.
MS. ZIMMERMANN YOU HAVE THE FLOOR.
AT THIS POINT, KNOWING FULL WELL,THAT FOLKS WHO HAVE NO JOB, HAVE NO MONEY TO PAY RENT AND THEY'RE LOOKING AT FORGIVENESS OR PAYING OFF IN A DIFFERENT MANNER GOVERNMENT MONEY COMING IN TO HELP PEOPLE PAY THEIR RENT AT THIS POINT.
DO YOU FEEL AS THOUGH THAT'S GOING TO IMPACT THE VALUE A RESTAURANT STOCKS OR RESTAURANT PROPERTY EVERYTHING FROM DENTAL COMPLEXES TO ANYTHING THAT IS INDEED RENTED.
THING THEY WILL DO WHEN THEY'RE WORKING WITH THE COMMERCIAL, ESPECIALLY SMALL BUSINESSES RESTAURANTS AND SO ON.
IS IT EMPIRICALLY? IF IT'S STARTUP TO THE EVALUATION IS WHAT KIND OF MONEY CAN THAT PROPERTY EARN, AND THAT'S PRETTY MUCH HOW COMMERCIAL PROPERTIES OR VALUE.
SO, WHEN YOU HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS, AND IT COMES IN THE PLAY, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THEM TO ACTUALLY SEE AGAIN.
THIS WOULD BE UNDER A PROTEST THAT THEY COULD BE REVALUING THOSE AND REVALUE IN THEM.
NOW, MY POINT TO ALL OF THIS, IT IS SO EARLY IN THE PROCESS.
AND WE'VE REALLY GOT TO GO ANOTHER MONTH OR SO YET.
QUITE FRANKLY, THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT HAS TO GET BACK IN THE OFFICE AND START THIS PROCESS BECAUSE IT'S ONE OF THOSE THINGS WE WATCH.
WE HAVE A DALLAS COUNTY HAS AN ENTITY PAGE ON THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT WEBSITE, AND WE WATCH THEIR PRICE VALUE CHANGE DAILY, AS WE GET INTO THIS TIMEFRAME ALL THE WAY UP UNTIL CERTIFICATION DATE OF JULY TWENTY SEVEN.
SO, THESE ARE THINGS WE DID WATCH.
WE STAY VERY IN TUNE WITH, BUT IT IS SO EARLY IN THE PROCESS.
I, I REALLY CAN'T MAKE AN EDUCATED GUESS ON WHAT HAS HAPPENED.
I TRIED TO LOOK AT THIS BACK AND FOR WHAT HAPPENED.
WITH THE TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHT FINANCIAL CRISIS, BUT I'LL BE REALLY HONEST.
THIS THING'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
WE'RE NOT DOWN UNDER THE SAME TYPE OF SITUATION THAT WE SAW IN TWO THOUSAND AND EIGHT.
SO, TRYING TO WORK WITH THAT AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT.
IT'S REALLY GOING TO BE ALMOST A MONTH BY MONTH THING OVER THE NEXT THREE OR FOUR MONTHS TO WHERE WE CAN SEE SO THAT WE CAN BRING YOU SOME INFORMATION AS THE BUDGET WORKSHOPS.
MS COMPTON YOU HAVE THE FLOOR.
HAPPENING THAT SOME THESE BUSINESSES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PAY THEIR PROPERTY TAXES
[02:05:05]
NO, WE HAVE PRETTY MUCH, AS I SAID, COLLECTED NINETY-EIGHT-POINT SEVEN PERCENT OF THE TEXT RECEIPTS.SO THIS YEAR, AND THAT'S REALLY MY STORY, I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT EXPENSES HERE IN A MINUTE, BUT IF WE DO SEE ANY TYPE OF REVENUE SHORTFALL IT'S GOING TO BE OFFSET BY THE FACT, WE'RE NOT RUNNING OUR BUILDINGS THAT WERE WE'RE ONLY MAKING A CRITICAL AND EMERGENCY PURCHASES WE ARE CONTINUING TO PAY EMPLOYEES, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF EXPENSES THAT WE WILL SAVE DURING THIS TIMEFRAME THAT WILL MORE THAN OFFSET IF FOR ANY REASON WE SAY.
REVENUES NOT ACHIEVING BUDGET AND THEY'RE BEING IN THE SHORTFALL.
MS. YOU FLORES HAVE THE FLOOR.
YOU KNOW, THE BUILDINGS ARE BEING RUN WITH THEM THAT WILL REDUCE UTILITIES.
YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE TALKED ABOUT WITH SUSTAINABILITY IS, IS EVERYBODY WORKING FROM HOME IS THE IS THE CARBON FOOTPRINT HAS GOT TO BE GETTING BETTER IN DALLAS JUST BECAUSE OF ALL THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON.
SO THERE, I WANT TO MAKE A BRIGHT SIDE TO THIS STORY GUY.
I DON'T LIKE WHAT'S HAPPENING BECAUSE I'M IN THAT HIGH RISK GROUP, BUT IT'S THE SAME POINT IN TIME.
SO WHILE WE'RE DOING THAT, WE SEE, WE SAY UTILITIES GOING DOWN, WE SEE PURCHASE SERVICES AND CERTAIN OTHER ITEMS GOING DOWN JUST FOR THIS TIME PERIOD AGAIN, THE LONGER IS EXTENDED THE HARDER IT IS GOING TO BE TO PLAY, CATCH UP.
AND WE HAVE HAD IN, IN SUCH CASES, LIKE THE HIRING PROCESS, WE HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THAT EVER SINCE THE FIRST OF THIS FISCAL YEAR DR. MAY AND THE PRESIDENTS, AND I ALL TALKED ABOUT IT BACK INTO SEPTEMBER SAYING WE NEEDED TO KNOW IT, NOT ONLY AT NEW PERSONNEL, BUT THEY CAN SEE AND DETERMINE AT THAT TIME AS WE WERE TALKING ABOUT GOING TO THE ONE COLLEAGUE MODEL, MAKING SURE THAT WE WERE ONLY FILLING AT THIS TIME, TRULY, TRULY CRITICAL POSITIONS AND NOW WITH THE SHUTDOWN WE ALSO RUN IN INTO A SITUATION IS, HOW DO YOU ONBOARD.
AN EMPLOYEE WHEN NOBODY'S IN THE OFFICE SO WE'RE GOING TO SEE SOME OF THOSE TYPE OF SAVINGS THAT HAPPEN AS WE GO THROUGH THIS.
AND I, I DON'T HAVE A GOOD FEEL FOR WHAT THAT IS RIGHT YET.
BUT MY EXPERIENCE OF DOING THIS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS, HAS SHOWN IF BACK TO WHAT I SAID, IF WE HAVE A REVENUE SHORTFALL, THE EXPENSE, THE REDUCTION AND EXPENSES.
WELL, MORE THAN OFFSET ANY REVENUE SHORTFALL WE HAVE.
SO, I FEEL REALLY, REALLY COMFORTABLE ABOUT THIS YEAR.
QUESTIONS TALKING ABOUT THE CURRENT BUDGET YEAR, RIGHT? TRYING TO IMAGINE WHERE WE'RE GOING TO BE AS A BOARD AND AS AN INSTITUTION AND, YOU KNOW, THE NEXT, TWO TO THREE MONTHS AS WE GO INTO OUR BUDGET PLANNING AND IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE A SCENARIO WHERE WE'RE GOING TO HAVE MORE UNCERTAINTY AS IT PERTAINS TO, AT LEAST TWO OF OUR THREE REVENUE SOURCES, IS IT MAYBE EVEN ALL THREE AND, YOU KNOW, YOU AND I ANTICIPATE TALKING ABOUT THIS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YEAH, THE IDEA THAT THAT, AS WE GO INTO THIS, YOU KNOW, WE, WE NEED TO BE THINKING ABOUT VARIOUS SCENARIOS BECAUSE QUITE FRANKLY, WE DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT YEAR THE NEXT BUDGET CYCLE AND, AND BUT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.
WE HAVE TO ALIGN OUR REVENUES TO OUR EXPENSES.
MEAN, WE HAVE TO BALANCE OUR BUDGET, AND I KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, BUSINESSES THAT I'M INVOLVED IN, I MEAN, LOOKING AT VARIOUS SCENARIOS, AND, AND, YOU KNOW, AN, A B, AND C, YOU KNOW, BEST CASE MEDIUM CASE, WORST CASE TYPE OF THING, YOU KNOW, THAT TYPE OF PLANNING SCENARIO PLANNING AS WE GO INTO THE NEXT BUDGET.
I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE REALLY, REALLY VALUABLE TO US.
I MEAN, BECAUSE IT'S NOT GOING TO JUST BE TURNING ONE KNOB ON, YOU KNOW, WHAT MIGHT COME IN ON REVENUE IN ORDER TO SUPPORT ANOTHER THING.
I MEAN, WE'RE GOING TO, WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO BE PLANNING FOR ALTERNATE REALITY SO WE CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO IMAGINE NOW AND YEAH, WE GOT SOME TIME TO
[02:10:01]
THINK ABOUT THAT, BUT IT MIGHT BE WORTHWHILE.BOARD MEETING OR FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING, OR HOW DO WE APPROACH TO REALLY TALK ABOUT THE SCENARIO PLANNING PROCESS AND AN IDEA FOR OUR NEXT BUDGET? BECAUSE WE'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE GOOD VISIBILITY INTO ANYTHING.
AND THIS MIGHT BE A YEAR WHERE WE ALWAYS DO THIS BEHIND THE SCENES, YOU KNOW, AT THE END OF THE YEAR, THE BOARD HAS TO ADOPT THE FIXED NUMBER OF BUDGETS.
BUT ONE IS TO YOUR SCENARIOS, WHAT WE PROBABLY GOING TO NEED TO DO THIS YEAR IS IF FANS AND THAT WE HAVE RANGES AND STUFF THAT WE THINK STATE APPROPRIATIONS ARE GOING TO BE BETWEEN THIS, OR WHAT HAPPENS IF THIS HAPPENS.
AND I THINK YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
SO THAT'S PROBABLY AN AREA, WHEREAS BEFORE IT WAS REALLY EASY TO COME THROUGH WITH A FIXED DOLLAR AMOUNT WITH THE BOARD AND ONLY THEY CAN APPROVE OR RANGE, THEY HAVE TO APPROVE IT, FIX FIXED AMOUNT AND REVENUE AN EXPENSES IN THE BALANCED BUDGET.
BUT I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE MUCH MORE IMPERATIVE FOR ALL OF US TO BE TALKING ABOUT IF THIS HAPPENS, THEN THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.
AND IF THIS HAPPENS, THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.
SO, I THINK THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT MORE STRATEGY AND THE BUDGETING FOR NEXT YEAR THEN, MAYBE WHAT WE'VE HAD TO WHAT WE'VE HAD TO WORK WITH, BEFORE ON JUST THE SOURCES OF REVENUE.
YOU'RE RIGHT ALL THREE TO BE CHANGING.
SAID EARLIER THAT Y ÂALL HAVE GONE TO ALL SORTS OF SCENARIOS TO DEAL WITH CATASTROPHIC EVENTS SHOULD THEY OCCUR? IS THAT CORRECT? HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO GO IN THERE.
WE HAVE NOT DONE THAT YET WITH ANYTHING ON WHAT LOOKS LIKE OUR NORMAL MONTHLY BUDGET REPORT.
EARLIER, IN TERMS OF THIS BOARD HAS ALWAYS BEEN FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE BOARD.
I KNOW YOU TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT AND ALL OF YOU TAKE THAT VERY SERIOUSLY.
WE NEED TO KNOW ALL THE SCENARIOS AS TRUSTEE.
RITTER WAS SAYING IN TERMS OF THE IMPACT ON OUR THREE MAJOR FUNDING SOURCES, AND IF WE HAVE TO PULL BACK AS, YOU KNOW, WE'VE CERTAINLY DONE SO AND WORK WITH WHAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE AND NOT GET US INTO DEBT BEYOND WHAT'S WHAT WE DO WITH THE BOND.
SO, I THINK, YOU KNOW, HOW YOU NEED TO MOVE FORWARD FOR THIS FOR TO HAVE SOME LEVEL OF COMFORT TO PUT SCENARIOS BEFORE US THAT WE CAN MAKE WISE DECISIONS ON.
SO FAR IN TERMS OF WHAT YOU'VE TALKED US THROUGH ON THE BUDGET, AND THE TIMELINES, ETC., THANK YOU BECAUSE THAT'S VERY GOOD INFORMATION AND KIND OF REFRESHES OUR MEMORIES AS BUDGET DISCUSSIONS THAT WE HAVE HAD.
GO FORTH AND DO GOOD WORK IN TERMS OF KEEPING US BASICALLY RESPONSIBLE.
ÂALL AWARE ALL THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS WE STARTED BEFORE SPRING BREAK AND BEFORE THE SHELTER IN PLACE ARE PROCEEDING CONTRACTORS MUST FOLLOW CDC GUIDELINES AS REQUIRED BY THE COUNT.
BUT ALL OF THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS ARE GOING ON NOW THAT THE FACILITY DIRECTORS REPORT AFTER MY ORGANIZATION AND ALSO SCOTT RIGHT IS WORKING WITH THEM VERY CLOSELY.
WE HAVE TAKEN TO SCHEDULING ALL THE TYPE OF WORK THAT WE HAVE TO DO ON AN ESSENTIAL BASIS FOR FACILITIES.
SOMETHING THAT IS WE TAKE EVERY DAY, SO SIMPLE AS THE MAIL AND RECEIVING WE'VE HAD THE SCHEDULE WHEN ARE WE GOING TO HAVE THE MAIL IN WHO IS GOING TO COME AND LOOK AT IT? HOW DO WE GET IT SCANNED AND DISTRIBUTED PEOPLE TO STILL AT THE SAME TIME MINIMIZING THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE TO PHYSICALLY COME ON CAMPUS? HOW DO WE DO MANY CASES? WE HAVE RECEIVING ONE DAY A WEEK AND LOCATION.
SOME PLACES THAT MIGHT BE TO, BUT WE HAVE SCHEDULED S THAT WE MINIMIZE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ARE EVER AT A FACILITY ON ANY ONE POINT.
WE ARE GOING TO BE CONTINUING WITH GROUND.
WE'RE GOING TO MOW THE GROUND.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF THE LANDSCAPING.
WE'RE GOING TO KEEP THINGS UP.
BUT WE'VE SCHEDULED THAT WE'RE NOT ALL ARE THERE NECESSARILY AT THE SAME TIME, SO THAT WE CAN MAINTAIN THE SAFETY OF ALL OF OUR EMPLOYEES.
WE ALSO HAVE OUR FACILITY DIRECTORS DESIGN WALKERS AT LEAST A COUPLE OF TIMES A
[02:15:02]
WEEK THAT THEY'RE WALKING THROUGH THE CAMPUS AND MAKING SURE.WHAT'S THAT? THEY HAVEN'T, AND WE HAVE WE'VE UNCOVERED SOME, SOME PROBLEMS DURING THE LAST TWO WEEKS THAT WE'RE GETTING CONTRACTORS OUT THERE TO FIX THEM.
WE'RE GOING TO TAKE CARE OF OUR FACILITIES DURING THE SHUTDOWN WHEN NOBODY'S THERE.
ONE OF THE BEST THING IS ALWAYS HAPPENS DURING THIS IS WE HAVE OUR CUSTODIAL SERVICES AND LISTENING TO THEM AND WHAT THEY CAN TELL US ABOUT WHAT THEY'VE SEEN OR WHAT'S NOT WORKING.
IT WAS WARM IN THIS BUILDING, OR I SAW WATER ON THE FLOOR OVER HERE.
AND SO, WHEN THE FACILITY DIRECTORS OR STAFF DO THEIR WALKTHROUGH, THEY'RE CHECKING ON THOSE TYPES OF THINGS FOR EQUIPMENT AND OTHERS, BUT ALSO THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, AND WEÂRE CONTINUING TO REPAIR THINGS AS WE FIND THEM DURING THE SHUTDOWN.
SO, WHEN WE DO COME BACK TO THE OFFICE, WE, WE WILL FIND THAT WE HAVEN'T BEEN BAILING OUT OUR FACILITIES AND WE'VE GOT ALL THESE ISSUES WE'VE GOT TO TAKE CARE OF.
I'LL MENTION IT HERE THAT SHERRY AND RIGHT.
ROB, WHEN LINDA, AND I, WE ACTUALLY LOOK AT EVERY QUEST OF ANY EMPLOYEE WHO NEEDS TO GO ON TO CAMPUS WHEN THEY WILL GO ON CAMPUS AND HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE WILL BE THERE TO VERIFY.
THAT IS TRULY AN ESSENTIAL DUTY THAT THEY NEED TO GO ON CAMPUS AND WHEN IT'S NOT, WE DON'T ALLOW THAT TO HAPPEN.
SO JUST A LITTLE UPDATE ON THAT ANYTHING ON FACILITIES THAT ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE HAVE THAT I CAN TRY TO ANSWER.
FACILITIES AND HAD YOU ALL THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING SOMEBODY COME IN AND DO SOME TESTS OR WHATEVER? BECAUSE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT REALLY ME ABOUT THIS, VIRUS IS HOW LONG IT CAN SURVIVE ON SURFACES BECAUSE BEFORE WE SHUT DOWN, THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME OF THOSE GERMS OR WHATEVER THAT WERE LEFT IN THOSE DIFFERENT BUILDINGS AND CLASSROOM.
AND I'M, I'M GLAD YOU BROUGHT THAT UP ONE.
WE HAVEN'T STOPPED OUR CUSTODIAL.
SERVICES WE HAVE TWO OF THEM ARE STILL CONTINUING TO CLAIM AND DURING THIS TIMEFRAME, THEY ARE ABLE TO DO SUCH THINGS AS STRIP AND WAX FLOORS, SHAMPOO, CARPETS, THINGS THAT THEY WOULDN'T NECESSARILY BE ABLE TO FIND WHEN WE HAD A LOT OF STUDENTS ON BEFORE WE LEFT FOR SPRING BREAK, WE CONTRACTED WITH THESE FIRMS TO DO WHAT? I WILL CALL A DEEP CLEAN.
THAT'S A SPECIAL CLEANING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'VE GOT KILL THE VIRUSES AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY WEREN'T SITTING ON THE, THE, THE FACILITY WHILE NOBODY WAS THERE.
SO, WE WILL START THAT BACK UP BEFORE WE COME BACK TO THE CAMPUSES JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE, ARE TAKEN CARE OF IT.
BUT RIGHT NOW, OUR CUSTODIAL STAFF IS STILL WIPING DOWN DOOR, HANDLES, CLEANING ALL THE STAIRWELLS.
WE DO HAVE A FEW PEOPLE THAT ARE GOING DOWN THERE, SO WE'RE JUST MAINTAINING THE CLEANLINESS OF OUR BUILDINGS AS IF WE HAD EVERYBODY AND AT THE SAME TIME, THAT KIND OF GETS STILL LOOK WHATEVER CAUSE HE'S BUILDING.
SO, HE'S BUT, YEAH, I JUST THINK THAT WE NEED TO TAKE THIS UP STONE THE, TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR BUILDINGS ARE CONTAMINATION FREE.
OR STUDENTS HAVE COME DOWN WITH THE VIRUS? DO WE EVEN HAVE ANY MECHANISM TO FIND THAT OUT? FOR EMPLOYEES WE DO, AND MAYBE, BUT I'M GOING TO TURN THAT BACK TO SHERRI ENRIGHT.
RIGHT WE DO HAVE A ROBERT WENDLAND AND EITHER ONE.
WELL, ROB MIGHT TAKE TOO LONG, BUT I'LL LET JERRY TALK.
AND IF WE DO HAVE A PROCESS FOR DOING THAT, DO EITHER SHERRY ROB, DO YOU WANT TO SPEAK ON HOW WE WATCH THOSE? WITHOUT A COMMENT ABOUT ROB SPEAKING, RIGHT? MUCH HOW FUN IT WAS TO WORK OVER SPRING BREAK.
AND THESE LAST TWO WEEKS, YOU KNOW, OUR CHANCELLOR HAS TENNIS SHOES ON, HE RUNS A FOUR, FOUR, FORTY, YOU KNOW, AND SO, KEEPING UP WITH HIM BUT THE SUPPORT OF EVERYBODY
[02:20:05]
PULLING THEIR WEIGHT PRESIDENTS.CHERRY, LINDA, EVERYBODY PULLING FORWARD ON THIS.
IT'S BEEN A JOY TO REALLY WORK WITH ALL THIS AND I CAN'T REITERATE THAT ENOUGH TO THE BOARD.
IT MAKES MY JOB A WHOLE LOT EASIER.
IF EVERYBODY'S PULL ON THEIR OWN WHITE, WHEN WE'RE TRYING TO DO THESE THINGS AND I TELL YOU, IT'S BEEN A YEOMAN'S JOB.
AND EVERYBODY'S PITCHED IN EMPLOYEES STAFF ADMINISTRATOR, EVERY FACULTY, EVERYBODY.
IT HAS BEEN HARD FOR ME TO SIT BACK FOR TWO AND A HALF HOURS AND NOT SAY ANYTHING.
SO, I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO, IN FACT, HAVE A PROCESS FOR REPORTING FROM EMPLOYEES THAT MAY HAVE BEEN EXPOSED OR TESTED POSITIVE.
I, BECAUSE OF HIPPA REGULATIONS, WE WON'T OF COURSE, DISCLOSE PERSONAL, PRIVATE INFORMATION ABOUT EMPLOYEES, MEDICAL CONDITIONS IN THIS FORUM.
BUT WE DO INDEED HAVE THAT PROCESS.
IT HAS WORKED, WE HAVE HAD SOME REPORTS OF EITHER EXPOSURE TO SOMEBODY WHO WAS COVERED NINETEEN POSITIVE, OR SOMEBODY WHO, IN FACT, WAS COVET NINETEEN POSITIVE THAT WAS IN OUR EMPLOYEE.
BUT THE NUMBERS ARE FAIRLY SMALL, AND CERTAINLY, BECAUSE THOSE OCCURRED AND WERE REPORTED AFTER WE HAD ALREADY BEEN THROUGH AN EXTENDED SPRING BREAK THAT THAT CONSTITUTED FOURTEEN DAYS.
WE'RE QUITE CONFIDENT THAT NONE OF THOSE PART.
PEOPLE WERE SYMPTOMATIC DURING THE TIME THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY WORKING IN IN IN THE CAMPUSES AND IN CLOSE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
SO, WE DO HAVE A PROCESS FOR IT.
HOPEFULLY, THOSE WHO HAVE EITHER BEEN EXPOSED OR HAVE IT, IT WILL COME THROUGH VERY WELL.
LASTLY, ON PURCHASING WHAT WE'VE DONE RIGHT NOW IS JUST WERE PROCESSING CRITICAL AND EMERGENCY REQUISITIONS AND OTHER PROCUREMENT NEEDS ARE REALLY AT A LOW PRIORITY.
PART OF THAT IS WE DON'T HAVE THE RECEIVING THAT WE HAD BEFORE.
SO, WHEN YOU WERE TRYING TO GET PHYSICAL GOODS, TIM MENTIONED IT EARLIER IS HOW WE GET THE IT EQUIPMENT TO COME IN WHEN WE'RE ONLY AT DSC ONE DAY A WEEK AND WORKING WITH OUR SUPPLIERS AND THE, THE CARRIERS TO BRING ALL OF OUR DELIVERY TO US ON ONE DAY HAS BEEN HAS WORKED OUT VERY WELL THAT WE CAN DO THAT SO THAT WE'RE MINIMIZING THE NUMBER OF DAYS.
OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE TO BE THERE.
THE GOOD ADVANTAGE IS, WE WENT LIVE WITH THE EPROCUREMENT SYSTEM THE WEEK BEFORE SPRING BREAK, AND TIM TALKED ABOUT HOW WE BOUGHT THE, THE, WE, WE BOUGHT THE, THE, OR MADE THE ORDER FOR THE TABLETS AND THE HOTSPOTS AND THE PETERS AND WE DID IT ALL IN ONE DAY TOTALLY ONLINE AND IT WAS PHENOMENAL.
WHAT CAN BE DONE WHEN YOU WHEN YOU USE TECHNOLOGY, WE ARE STILL, I WANT TO SAY TO, FROM THE EXPENSE STANDPOINT, WE ARE COLLECTING ALL POTENTIAL POSSIBLE.
FEMA, OR CARES ACT THE EXPENDITURES FOR REIMBURSEMENT.
WE STARTED SETTING UP THESE ACCOUNTS IMMEDIATELY WHEN WE WERE TALKING OVER SPRING BREAK SO THAT WE CAN GET THE MONEY WHERE IT'S, IT'S SEGMENTED AND WE KNOW WHERE IT IS IN THE LEDGER AND CAN BE ABLE TO FIND THAT MONEY.
AND THEN, AS WE GO THROUGH AND WORK WITH SOME PEOPLE ON MAKING SURE WE KNOW HOW TO BILL BACK TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SEE OF THE STATE OR WHOEVER AND BE ABLE TO SEE HOW WE GET OUR GET SOME OF THESE MONIES BACK OUT.
LASTLY, I'LL JUST MENTIONED WE ARE CONTINUING WHAT THEY INCLUDED.
THAT'S THE SOLID BOOKSTORE LEARNING MATERIALS INCLUDED WITH TUITION.
WE HAVE A PILOT AT CENTRO THIS SUMMER, AND WE PLAN ON CONTINUING TO GO LIVE WITH THAT NEXT FALL.
JOHN IS A GOOD COMPREHENSIVE REPORT.
THAT HELPS US, YOU KNOW, WHERE WE ARE AND WHAT'S BEING LOOKED AT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE STAY FISCALLY HEALTHY.
THE TRUSTEES IT'S ABOUT TEN MINUTES TO SEVEN.
UNLESS YOU WANT TO GO IN TO EIGHT, EIGHT, THIRTY, YOU KNOW, ITÂS YOUR DECISION.
BUT IF NOT, I'M GOING TO ASK THE CHANCELLOR IF POSSIBLY WE CAN HAVE A GOAL OF FINISHING BY ABOUT SEVEN THIRTY.
AND WE, WE DID WANT TO SHARE A COUPLE OF THINGS WITH YOU AND I THINK THE AGENDA ITEMS OBVIOUSLY.
WE'LL TAKE THOSE UP AND THEY'RE NOT MANY TODAY, BUT I DID WANT YOU, BECAUSE ANOTHER SOURCE OF REVENUE THAT WILL BE COMING IN WE'VE BEEN MONITORING CAREFULLY
[02:25:05]
WORKING WITH OUR TEAMS AND DC.OUR VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS, WE REFER TO ON THIS AGENDA AS THE STIMULUS PACKAGE.
TECHNICALLY IT'S NOT A STIMULUS.
IT REALLY UNDER THE CARE ACT, BUT IT DOES RELATE SPECIFICALLY TO HIGHER EDUCATION PIECES OF IT.
SEVEN BILLION OF IT ARE FOR HIGHER ED TO PUT THAT PERSPECTIVE, THE TOTAL NATIONAL EXPENDITURES FOR PELL GRANT, SEVENTY-SEVEN BILLION.
SO, THIS IS ROUGHLY ALMOST HALF OF THE MONEY THAT WOULD NORMALLY BE GOING IN A YEAR INTO THAT.
SO, IT'S A SIZABLE SUM, AND WE'VE RUN ESTIMATES ON THAT AND SO FORTH.
JUSTIN YOU WANT TO JUST TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON THAT AND WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT WHAT THE PROCESS WILL BE TO PULL DOWN SOME OF THOSE DOLLARS AND MADAM CHAIR BE MINDFUL OF TIME, BUT, AS THE CHANCELLOR SAID, THE, THE CARE ACT IS A PART OF THREE DIFFERENT BILLS.
AND THERE'S, THERE'S MULTIPLE PROVISIONS IN ALL OF THEM.
BUT THE CARE ACT IS THE THIRD ONE, AND IT HAS OVER THIRTY BILLION DOLLARS FOR EDUCATION ABOUT FOURTEEN BILLION THAT IS ALLOCATED TO HIGHER EDUCATION.
AND SO, THE AS WE HAVE DONE THE INITIAL ESTIMATES OF WHAT THE IMPACT OF THOSE DOLLARS WOULD BE ON US OUR ESTIMATE FOR ABOUT TWENTY-TWO MILLION DOLLARS THAT WOULD COME TO DCCCD BASED ON THE FORMULA THAT THEY PUT TOGETHER IN THE BILL.
AND YOU'VE HEARD JOHN REFERENCE A LITTLE BIT SOME OF THE THINGS RELATED TO WHAT COULD BE REIMBURSABLE EXPENSES AND, AND QUITE FRANKLY, NOT ALL OF THAT IS NECESSARILY CLEAR YET.
SO THAT'S WHY JOHN AND THE ACCOUNTING TEAM HAVE HAD BEEN MAINTAINING THAT LIST AND THAT ACCOUNT.
SO, WE SO WE CAN ACCOUNT FOR THOSE THINGS.
THIS BILL IS, YOU KNOW, A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN WHAT WE NORMALLY TRACK AS THE CHANCELLOR SAID.
WE'VE GOT A TEAM OF FOLKS THAT THAT HAVE BEEN ENGAGING ON THE DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THIS.
DR, MAY ON A REGULAR BASIS AND ISAAC THAWS AND ROB'S TEAM AS WELL DOING DIFFERENT ANALYSIS.
YOU KNOW, PART OF WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS PIECE OF LEGISLATION IS THAT OBVIOUSLY IT MOVED VERY QUICKLY AND SO TO GE GUIDANCE ON SOME OF THESE THINGS, WE CAN'T TURN TO THE NORMAL LEGISLATIVE INTENT, OR LOOK AT COMMITTEE REPORTS.
SO, EVEN IN CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'VE DONE WITH CONGRESSIONAL STAFF, SOMETIMES CONFLICTING INFORMATION ON HOW ALL OF THIS WILL ULTIMATELY WORK.
SO, WE'LL HAVE TO WAIT SOME, SOME GUIDANCE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ED ON HOW ALL OF THIS IS GOING TO MOVE.
BUT, CERTAINLY INDICATIONS, TELL US THAT, YOU KNOW, IN THE NEXT TWO, THREE WEEKS IS WHEN IS WHEN WE CAN EXPECT THIS BECAUSE REALLY THE INTENT IS FOR THESE DOLLARS TO MOVE VERY QUICKLY.
AND OF THE INITIAL ESTIMATED TWENTY-TWO MILLION DOLLARS.
HALF OF THOSE DOLLARS HAVE TO BE USED DIRECTLY T SUPPORT STUDENTS.
THE OTHER HALF THE OTHER PORTION CAN BE USED TO SUPPORT OPERATIONS.
SO, WE'LL GET INTO MORE DETAILS AS WE GET MORE GUIDANCE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF ED OF WHAT'S ALLOWABLE BOTH FOR REIMBURSEMENT PORTIONS.
AND THEN ALSO GUIDANCE ON HOW DIRECT SUPPORT STUDENTS CAN WORK.
AND THEN ALSO, AGAIN, JUST ON THE ON THE BROAD OPERATIONAL SIDE.
SO THAT'S THE, THE QUICK VERSION OF WHAT THE CARE ACT IS.
OBVIOUSLY, LIKE I SAID, THERE ARE MULTIPLE OTHER PROVISIONS IN THAT.
BUT THAT'S THE, THE PORTION THAT'S MOST RELEVANT TO US HERE.
WE HAVE AN ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.
I WASN'T AWARE THAT THE CARES THAT MAKE PROBATION FOR HIRED FUNDING.
WE ARE FACING SIGNIFICANT COSTS RELATED TO THE SHELTER IN PLACE, AND ALL THE PROVISIONS THAT WE'VE HAD TO MAKE ADJUSTMENT FOR EUROPE.
THE PIECE THAT JUSTIN JUST DESCRIBED RELATED TO THE TWENTY-TWO MILLION.
THAT'S RELATIVELY STRAIGHT FORWARD.
AND WE'RE EXPECTING RULES FAIRLY QUICKLY BECAUSE THOSE DOLLARS REALLY RIGHT NOW.
WEÂVE A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT DATES, BUT REALLY LOOKING AT, BY THE END OF SEPTEMBER THOSE HAVE TO BE DISTRIBUTED, PARTICULARLY THOSE GOING TO STUDENTS AS WE GET THOSE OUT THERE'S ACTUALLY, ANOTHER PIECE OF IT THAT WE DON'T YET KNOW
[02:30:04]
THE ESTIMATES BECAUSE THE FORMULA WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE BILL THAT WE WILL ALSO BE ELIGIBLE FROM AND WE'RE SURE WE'RE SEE DOLLARS FROM THAT.AND THAT RELATIONSHIP TITLE, THREE TITLE, FIVE TRIO, OTHER SPECIAL FEDERAL PROGRAMS THAT ARE OUT THERE AS WELL.
SO, THOSE WILL PROBABLY BE AWHILE AND WORKING GROUPS JUST THE DEPARTMENT WILL HAVE TO DEVELOP ALL THE RULES ON THOSE AND REALLY DIDN'T RECEIVE A LOT OF LEGISLATIVE GUIDANCE.
WITH THAT, THEY'RE HAPPY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS AND WE'LL KEEP THE BOARD INFORMED AS TO HOW THIS IS MOVING FORWARD BUT, YOU KNOW, IN INFORMATION AND KEEPING PEOPLE INFORM HAS BEEN A BIG PART OF THIS TASK.
AND I, I LEFT THIS LAST FOR REASON BECAUSE THIS IS KIND OF BEEN THE GLUE.
THAT HAS ALLOWED EVERYTHING TO WORK AND WE'VE, WE'VE DONE OUR BEST TO KEEP PEOPLE INFORMED UP TO DATE AND MAKING CERTAIN THAT THE, WE'RE ON TOP OF EVERYTHING THAT WE'RE DEALING WITH LISTENING TO EMPLOYEES RESPONDING TO STUDENTS AND SO FORTH.
SO, I'M GOING TO ASK FOR HEAD OF COMMUNICATIONS AS A COLLATERAL, AND I WANT HER TO JUST SHARE WITH.
YOU ARE REALLY TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING WATCH INVOLVED WITH THAT.
SO, WHAT WE'VE DONE FROM A COMMUNICATIONS TASK FORCE PERSPECTIVE, WE HAVE ONE PERSON EMBEDDED ON EACH OF THE OTHER TASK FORCES SO THAT WE CAN THEN STAY IN CONSTANT CONNECTION AND WE WOULD NEED EVERY DAY TO TALK THROUGH WHAT WERE ALL THINGS GOING ON ALL THE DIFFERENT PIECES AND ELEMENTS THAT, SO WE CAN PULL TOGETHER COMMUNICATIONS, EVERYDAY LOOKING AT IT FOR THE WHOLE WEEK.
WE ACTUALLY HAVE A TWO-MONTH COMMUNICATIONS PLAN THAT INITIALLY STARTED OUT LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN REASSURE STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES THROUGH THIS UNCERTAINTY AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNEW HOW TO GET TO THE RESOURCES THEY NEEDED TO HELP THEM, WHETHER IT WAS ONLINE LEARNING OR REMOTE WORKING.
I'M PULLING IN ALL THE RESOURCES THAT WERE BEING CREATED BY THE OTHER TEAMS AND IT DIDN'T TAKE US VERY LONG TO REALIZE THAT THERE WAS A LOT OF GOODNESS HAPPENING.
I THINK ALL ECHO, JOHN WHAT SAID THAT IT WAS TRULY HUMBLING TO SEE HOW ALL OF THE PEOPLE ACROSS THE DISTRICT EMPLOYEES HAVE COME TOGETHER TO REALLY FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THIS WORK.
TO SHOWCASE SOME OF THAT SO WE STARTED SHIFTING AND SAYING, OKAY, HOW DO WE START TELLING THE STORY? SO, THAT EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS CAN BE PROUD OF EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING ON.
AND THEN HIGHLIGHTING THE CREATIVITY OF FACULTY STAFF EMPLOYEES LIKE THE VIDEO THAT DR BRADDY SHOWED EARLIER.
IT'S BEEN, I THINK, AMAZING TO ALL OF US TO SEE HOW WELL PEOPLE HAVE ADAPTED TO THIS AND HOW PROUD WE ARE OF IT.
AND SO THAT WAS WHERE WE'VE KIND OF SHIFTED OUR COMMUNICATIONS.
WE STILL WANT TO KEEP REASSURING PEOPLE AND PROVIDING THE RESOURCES, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO SHOW THEM WHAT'S GOING ON WITH DISTRICTS.
SO, THEY CAN BE PROUD OF THEMSELVES AND SEE ALL THE COOL CREATIVITY THAT MIGHT ACTUALLY SPUR ADDITIONAL THINKING AND CREATIVE THOUGHT YOU'VE GOT THE NEXT SLIDE FROM.
SO, THE COMMUNICATION PLAN WAS REALLY BUILT ON USING MULTIPLE CHANNELS TO REACH PEOPLE, BECAUSE WE KNOW EVERYBODY USES SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO COMMUNICATE.
BUT WHAT WE WANTED TO DO WAS MAKE SURE WE WER COMMUNICATING COHESIVELY AND USING ONE VOICE ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
SO THAT EVERYBODY WAS GETTING CONSISTENT INFORMATION.
WE DID SET UP THE DCCCD WEBSITE PRETTY QUICKLY BEFORE SPRING BREAK.
MAYBE LIKE A WEEK BEFORE SPRING BREAK.
WE SET THAT UP AND THEN WE SET UP SHARE POINT SITES WITH AND WE'LL PROVIDE.
UPDATES WE UPLOAD ALL OF THE EMAILS THAT ARE GOING OUT TO EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS THERE.
WE PROVIDE ALL THE UPDATES THERE.
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAS GROWN SIGNIFICANTLY IS THE FAQÂS SECTION, AND BECAUSE WE DO HAVE A DIVERSE COMMUNITY WE HAVE AS THE FAQÂS SPANISH AS WELL.
SO, TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO ANSWERS TO ALL THE QUESTIONS THAT ARE BEING ASKED, WE'VE ALSO USED EMAIL AS A PRETTY FREQUENT COMMUNICATIONS TOOL AND, AND WE'VE USED IT AN OFTEN ENOUGH, THOUGH I STARTED QUESTIONING WHETHER IT WAS TOO MUCH, BUT WHEN WE LOOKED AT THE DATA, WE ACTUALLY HAD A FIFTY PERCENT INCREASE IN OUR OPEN RATES FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES, AND THAT'S REMAINED CONSISTENT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL WEEKS.
[02:35:01]
SO, PEOPLE ARE HUNGRY FOR INFORMATION AND THEY'RE ACTUALLY READING THE EMAILS.WE DID START A TEXTING PROGRAM THIS TIME, WHICH WE, WE'VE DONE TEXTING AS MORE OF AN OPT IN WHERE STUDENTS CAN SAY.
HEY, I'M INTERESTED IN A PARTICULAR TOPIC.
WE USE IT VERY ACTIVELY WITH PERSPECTIVE DOES KIND OF PROMISE STUDENTS, BUT WE'VE NEVER.
IMPORTED EVERY SINGLE STUDENT FOR WHOM WE HAD A CELL PHONE NUMBER INTO A TEXTING PROGRAM.
SO, WE DID THAT THIS TIME AND WE OFFER THE BOT, THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECEIVE COVID-19 UPDATES AND THE FIFTY-SIX THOUSAND PEOPLE THAT WERE IMPORTED.
WE HAD SEVENTEEN THOUSAND SAY.
YES, I WANT TO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE UPDATES AND WE INTERACTED WITH MANY OF THEM AND HELPING THEM ANSWER QUESTIONS, POINTING THEM TO THE WEBSITE.
AND THEN AS NEEDED, WE WERE FORWARDING CONCERNS OR ISSUES TO THE STUDENT SERVICES TEAMS TO THE FACULTY TO DR BRADDY AND HER TEAM AND ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE WERE HELPING STUDENTS GET TO THE HELP THAT THEY NEED.
WE ALSO USED OTHER THE OTHER THINGS YOU'RE SEEING HERE LISTED AND USE MEDIA AS WELL TO THE STORY YOU SEE, RIGHT THERE.
IT'S JUST A STORY THAT WE USED TO HIGHLIGHT ALL THE GOOD STUFF THAT'S HAPPENING WITH THE DONATIONS WHERE US COMMUNITY HAS TO COME TOGETHER TO PROVIDE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AND DENTAL AND OTHER MEDICAL SUPPLIES TO LOCAL HOSPITALS.
WE'VE DONE DR MAY HAS DONE SOME MEDIA INTERVIEWS AS WELL.
JUST SO THAT WE ARE SHOWING OUR SUPPORT FOR TH COMMUNITY, AND THEN COMING SOON STARTING NEXT WEEK.
WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A VIRTUAL TOWN HALL WOULD DR. MAY IN SOME OF THE LEADERSHIP TEAM TO ANSWER QUESTIONS FROM EMPLOYEES AND IT'LL BE SET UP MUCH LIKE THIS.
YOU WOULDN'T GO TO THE NEXT PERLA, SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE A COUPLE OF SLIDES HERE SPECIAL MEDIA HIGHLIGHTS JUST.
SO, YOU CAN SEE KIND OF THE FUN STUFF THAT'S ACTUALLY COME OUT OF THIS.
WE DID SEND THIS WELCOME BACK VIDEO I BELIEVE, IN THE SENT TO THE BOARD IN ADVANCE, BUT WE HAD EIGHT VIDEOS.
THE ONE YOU'RE LOOKING AT HERE IS TO COLLECT AND STUFF, DALLAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE ONE THAT EACH OF THE CAMPUSES ALSO HAVE THEIR OWN FACULTY WELCOMING STUDENTS BACK.
WE JUST GOT SO MUCH POSITIVE FEEDBACK.
AND AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE THOUSANDS OF USE ON OUR SOCIAL CHANNELS I THINK, WHAT WAS THE, THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS VIDEO WAS THAT WE DIDN'T SCRIPTS FACULTY.
THEY SPOKE FROM THE HEART AND IT WAS JUST IT WAS CLEAR EMOTIONAL AND REALLY MOVED A LOT OF PEOPLE INCLUDING ME.
I GOT EMOTIONAL WHEN I WATCHED IT.
SO, IF YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO TAKE A LOOK AT THAT.
SO, AS YOU MOVE TO THE NEXT SLIDE, THIS WAS A CONTEST, WE, LAST WEEK WITH OUR STUDENTS ABOUT SHARING ASKING HIM TO SHARE THEIR DESK, AND YOU'LL SEE OVER HERE ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONE OF THE WINNERS.
SO, EACH CAMPUS WAS AWARDED A STARBUCKS E.
GIFT CARD, ONE WINNER FROM EACH CAMPUS WAS AWARDED A GIFT CARD AND WE WERE JUST ENCOURAGING TO KIND OF SHARE THEIR WORKSPACE.
TRY TO MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT MORE EXCITING AND REALLY LOOK AT IT FROM A COMMUNITY PERSPECTIVE AND WE DO HAVE THOUSANDS OF VIEWS ON INSTAGRAM.
SO NEXT WEEK, WE ACTUALLY ARE ACTUALLY INSIDE TOMORROW.
WE HAVE A NEW VIDEO THAT'S GOING TO BE FEATURING OUR STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
SO PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR THAT ON SOCIAL MEDIA.
IT'S A REALLY GOOD WHEN SHE, WHEN IT IS PRETTY EMOTIONAL AS WELL, BUT FROM A STUDENT PERSPECTIVE.
WE'VE GOT A WHOLE CALENDAR WHAT WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO HIGHLIGHT OUR ACTIVITIES THAT ARE HAPPENING ACROSS THE DISTRICT, BUT WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BE REALLY TRYING TO ENGAGE WITH STUDENTS.
WE'RE OFFERING ALL KINDS OF TIPS AND I'M JUST TRYING TO HELP THEM FEEL REASSURED THROUGH ALL OF THIS SO THAT THEY FEEL CONNECTED TO US AND FEEL CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER.
SO, IF YOU CONTINUE TO THE NEXT SLIDE, WHILE WE'VE BEEN FOCUSING ON COVID-19 AS SHERRI MENTIONED EARLIER, THE MARKETING TEAM HAS UNIFIED ACROSS THE DISTRICT, WHICH HAS BEEN REALLY HELPFUL AND HAS BEEN AMAZING FOR ME TO SEE HOW MARKETER AND COMMUNICATION PERSON ACROSS THE DISTRICT HAS REALLY COME TOGETHER TO JOIN FORCES AND HELP.
I'VE GOTTEN SO MANY MESSAGES AND OFFERS FOR HELP FROM ACROSS CAMPUSES ACROSS THE DISTRICT AND REALLY HAVE.
TRY TO PUT ASIDE ANY KIND OF, YOU KNOW, TERRITORY AND REALLY FOCUSING ON WHAT DO WE NEED TO GET DONE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND TO THAT END, WE HAD SOME FOLKS WE DO HAVE SOME FOLKS THAT ARE FOCUSED ON COVID-19 BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME TEAMS THAT ARE FOCUSED ON THE FUTURE ON NOW WHERE WE HAVE TO GO AHEAD AND START MARKETING AROUND THE
[02:40:02]
ENROLLMENT FOR SUMMER AND FALL.BUT THEN ALSO A TEAM IS LOOKING AT DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND HOW DO WE GET PREPARED FOR THAT FUTURE STATE? BECAUSE WE STILL HAVE TO KEEP OUR EYE ON THAT PRICE AS WELL.
SO, IF YOU GO INTO THE NEXT SLIDE, WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE, THIS IS OUR CONCEPT FOR OUR CAMPAIGN THAT IS GOING TO GO OUT VERY SHORTLY TO TALK ABOUT SUMMER AND THE MAYMESTER SUMMER.
AND WHAT WE HAVE TO NOTE IS THAT TYPICALLY WE USE A LOT OF THEATER ADS, MOVIE THEATER ADS, BILLBOARDS, RADIO START ADVERTISING AND, BECAUSE A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS RIGHT THERE RIGHT NOW AREN'T DRIVING THEY'RE NOT EATING OUT AND NOT WRITING AND PUBLIC TRANSIT.
THEY'RE SHELTERING AT HOME AS THEY SHOULD BE.
WE REALLY HAD TO SHIFT OUR THINKING, NOT ONLY THE CREATIVE AS YOU SEE HERE.
THAT'S REALLY FOCUSED ON ONLINE CLASSES, YOU KNOW, JUST FOR YOU AT HOME ON YOUR SCHEDULE, BUT WE'RE ALSO HAVING TO SHIFT THE MEDIUMS THAT WE'RE USING.
SO, MOVING TO DIGITAL ADS ONLINE TO SOCIAL MEDIA ADS IN TV ADS ON BOTH BROADCAST.
AND OVER THE TOP ADVERTISING IN PLACES, LIKE HULU AND SLING AND WHERE WE KNOW A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS ARE SO IT'S, IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF A TEST.
BUT FORTUNATELY, WE HAVE A GREAT TEAM THAT IS ALREADY ON IT, AND WE'RE READY TO GO WORKING WITH STUDENT SERVICES TO GET EVERYTHING IN LINE.
SO THAT WE'RE READY TO SERVE OUR NEW STUDENTS AND IN A VIRTUAL WAY, A SOCCER SUPER EXTENSION.
AND WE ARE JUST CONTINUING TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD ANY QUESTIONS.
FOUR THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY FOUR VIEWS ON INSTAGRAM AND ONE OF THE POSTS, AND ONLY EIGHT HUNDRED ON FACEBOOK THAT REINFORCES, LET'S PUT OUT THERE THAT THE OLDER PEOPLE ARE ON FACEBOOK, AND THE YOUNGER ONES ARE ON INSTAGRAM, SHARP CONTRAST AND AGAIN VALIDATE WITH THAT VIEW BUT VERY GOOD WORK.
I KNOW I'VE BEEN ON FACEBOOK AND HAVE SEEN THE DIFFICULTY POST, AND I'VE EVEN SHARED THEM, AND IT REALLY COMMUNICATES THE SENSE OF CARING AND KEEPING STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC IN FORM.
SO, THANK YOU TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM AND EVERYONE THAT'S INVOLVED AND COMMUNICATING THAT MESSAGE OF CARING FOR.
AND I WOULD SAY THAT THIS NEXT PIECE IS A LITTLE INTERESTING, BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IT WAS EXACTLY COORDINATED BUT WHAT WE'VE HAD, OR EXAMPLES OF FOLKS WANTING TO REALLY HELP OUT THE HEALTHCARE FIELD SUPPORTED DONATIONS, DIFFERENT THINGS AND JUSTIN, YOU WANT TO JUST MAYBE KIND OF RUN THROUGH SOME OF THE THINGS WE'VE DONE TO HELP OUR COLLEAGUES PRIMARILY IN THE HEALTHCARE, BUT CERTAINLY OTHER AREAS AS WELL.
TO DRAW UPON YOUR COMMENTS THERE, MADAM CHAIR ABOUT THE SPIRIT OF CARING.
AND I THINK PATTY'S QUOTE WAS A LOT OF GOODNESS GOING ON.
THERE HAS BEEN OUR, OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE BEEN LASER FOCUSED ON TRYING TO FIGURE OUT DIFFERENT WAYS.
THEY CAN HELP IN THE COMMUNITY.
AND SO ALMOST RIGHT AWAY ENGAGING WITH THE NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK TO SEE WHAT WE CAN DO.
AND THIS IS, YOU KNOW, FACULTY AND STAFF AND EMPLOYEES ALL ACROSS THE DISTRICT FOCUSING ON THESE THINGS.
AND OBVIOUSLY A LOT OF ATTENTION RELATED TO THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR.
AND SO, WE'VE MOVED FAIRLY QUICKLY.
TO DO AN INVENTORY OF DIFFERENCE, HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES THAT WE CAN LOAN TO HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY, OR THAT WE CAN DONATE IN SOME INSTANCES.
SO, VERY EARLY ON THE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT THAT WE HAD.
SOME OF THE GLOVES THAT WE HAD THAT WE DONATED THOSE TO THE, TO THE HOSPITALS WHERE THERE WAS AN URGENT NEED WE HAVE STOOD UP A FOCUS ON THE SHIELDS THAT THE HEALTHCARE WORKERS HAVE TO WEAR.
SO, WE'VE GOT A NEW LASER CUTTER THAT, ALONG WITH OUR EXISTING ONE THAT WILL ALLOW US TO PRODUCE FORTY-FIVE HUNDRED SHIELDS PER WEEK.
WE ALREADY DID IN AN INITIAL RUN THAT WENT TO U.
THEY WERE SO IMPRESSED WITH THOSE ACTUALLY THAT THEY ASKED THEY COULD BUY THEM.
OF COURSE, WE'RE NOT IN THAT BUSINESS.
SO, THESE ARE JUST TO DONATE FOR THEIR USE ADDITIONALLY, BAYLOR AND MEDICAL CITY AND
[02:45:08]
THE DFW HOSPITAL CAPITAL HAD BEEN ENGAGED IN THIS AS WELL.CERTAINLY, WE'VE GOT LOAN AND DONATION FORMS THAT GO WITH ALL OF THESE THINGS.
BUT REALLY JUST FOCUSING ON, HOW CAN WE GET THIS MUCH NEEDED EQUIPMENT INTO THE HANDS OF THE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS THAT NEED THE AND THEN ALSO ON THE EQUIPMENT SIDE, GIVEN THE NUMBER OF HEALTHCARE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE IN THE DISTRICT WE'VE, WE'VE DONE AN INVENTORY OF HOSPITAL BEDS THAT WE HAVE OF STRETCHERS, THE SIMULATORS OF VENTILATORS OF RESPIRATORS WHEELCHAIRS THAT THAT WE'VE MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR AREA HOSPITALS TO, TO BE ABLE TO USE.
SO, WE HAVE LOANED TO THEM AND SO VERY EARLY ON IN THIS CONVERSATION.
THE CHANCELLOR WAS ENGAGED WITH THE COUNTY JUDGE, AND THE CEOS OF THE HOSPITALS THAT TOLD US THAT ONE VENTILATORS CAN SAVE TWELVE LIVES.
AND SO, WE VERY, VERY QUICKLY AN INVENTORY THAT WE HAD NINE VENTILATORS THAT WE JUST LEND TO THEM.
AND SO, SO THERE'S JUST A NUMBER OF THOSE TYPE THINGS THAT WE'VE UNDERTAKEN THAT REALLY DOES DEMONSTRATE THE TO, TO YOUR POINT MADAM CHAIR THAT THE CARING NATURE OF THIS DISTRICT, AND JUST LOOKING FOR EVERY OPPORTUNITY.
WE HAVE THAT WE CAN SERVE OUR COMMUNITY IN THIS IN THE STRATEGY.
WOULDN'T THINK THAT WE COULD HELP IN THAT WAY, BUT I GUESS SINCE WE HAVE OUR MEDICAL PROGRAMS ARE NURSING PROGRAMS, ANOTHER MEDICAL LOVING LEARNING PROGRAM WE DO HAVE THIS TYPE OF EQUIPMENT.
SO, THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT AND WOW IT'S SO GREAT TO HEAR THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE PRODUCING FORTY-FIVE HUNDRED SHIELDS A WEEK GIVEN THE SHORTAGES THAT, OR HEALTHCARE HEROES ARE FACING, BUT THANK YOU FOR SHARING THAT.
I KNOW IT WAS WRONG, BUT FRANKLY, IT'S BEEN A BUSY FEW WEEKS AND I, I FELT LIKE THE BOARD REALLY NEEDED AND WE AND FRANKLY WE KIND OF SPENT PROBABLY TWO OR THREE TIMES AS LONG ON THIS BECAUSE IT, THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT'S BEEN DONE.
IS ABSOLUTELY REMARKABLE, AS I SAID TO START, YOU CAN TELL LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF DECISIONS ACTIONS THAT HAD TAKEN PLACE TO HELP US MEET.
THE NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.
SO, IT'S BEEN A CHALLENGE, BUT FRANKLY A PROUD MOMENT TO HAVE TO BE A PART OF THE DISTRICT.
TRUSTEES DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS ON THIS PART OF THE AGENDA BEFORE WE MOVE ON? WELL, AGAIN IS REALLY HEARTENING TO KNOW THAT ALL OF OUR STAFF, AT EVERY LEVEL OF THE ORGANIZATION HAVE RISEN TO THE OCCASION HAVE MET THE MOMENT AND THAT THAT HAS BEEN REINFORCED BY EACH.
AND EVERY ONE OF YOU THAT PROVIDED AN UPDATE, IT JUST REALLY MAKES ME PROUD, MAKES THE BOARD PROUD THAT EVEN THOUGH THERE'S CONCERNS CHURNING OUT THERE AMONG STAFF, THE FOCUS OF EVERYONE CONTINUES TO BE ONGOING YOUR PART, YOUR INDIVIDUAL PART EACH, AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO BE FOCUSED ON STUDENT SUCCESS AND NOW A COMMUNITY SERVICE IN TERMS OF WHAT'S BEING DONE AND ESPECIALLY, BUT WE JUST HEARD ABOUT HOW WE'RE HELPING UP THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY.
WE'LL MOVE TO OUR, THE OPPORTUNITY FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD AND CHANCELLOR TO
[6. Opportunity for Members of the Board and Chancellor to Declare Conflicts of Interest Specific to this Agenda]
DECLARE CONFLICT OF INTEREST SPECIFIC TO THIS AGENDA BOARD MEMBERS.THAT'S PAGE FIVE ON THE AGENDA.
AND I BELIEVE IT'S FOR AMAZON AND CITY OF DALLAS.
IF THERE'S NO CONFLICT, THEN WE'LL MOVE ON TO.
WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE CONSENT TO THE AGENDA.
[7. Consent Agenda (Consent Agenda items may be approved by a single motion and vote or, alternatively, upon request of a Trustee(s); any listed item can be removed and considered individually.)]
IF I COULD HAVE A MOTION TO APPROVE ITEMS SEVEN A ONE AND TWO B ONE C ONE AND TWO AND B1.AND IF THEY TRUSTEE WANTS TO CONSIDER ONE OF THESE SEPARATELY, PLEASE LET IT BE KNOWN.
BUT OTHERWISE I'LL ENTERTAIN A MOTION.
SO, WE CAN THEN HAVE IT ON THE FLOOR FOR DISCUSSION.
IF NO DISCUSSION ALL IN FAVOR.
[02:50:06]
WOULD LIKE TO HAVE DISCUSSION AND BE WILLING TO.ZIMMERMANN DO YOU WANT THEM TO BE CONSIDERED SEPARATELY? OR ARE YOU SIMPLY HAVE QUESTIONS TO ASK AT THIS POINT? NO.
YOUR QUESTIONS, OF OPERATING BUDGET IT SAYS.
SO, ARE WE GOING TO PAY TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS? ARE THEY GOING? ARE THEY GOING TO PAY US TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS OPERATING? BUDGET WAS A QUESTION FOR ME DOLLAR AMOUNTS LISTED IN ONE.
AMAZON IS PAYING US TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS.
AND THIS IS A FANTASTIC PROGRAM WITH ONE OF THE LARGEST INSTITUTIONS AROUND THAT.
WE BASICALLY BEAT OUT SO MANY OTHER INSTITUTIONS WITH OUR ABILITY.
BUT WE WILL BE BILLING AMAZON FOR THAT.
WE DO IT ON THE THIRD CLASS THE THIRD-CLASS DAY.
WHAT WE CALL ARE CERTIFIED DATE, AND THEN WE SEND THEM A BILL AND THEY PAY IT.
WE CONTINUE WITH THE EXPENSES WE HAVE FOR THE REST OF THE MONTH.
WITH THIS NATURE THAT WE'VE DONE WITH AMAZON, NOT COUNTING OUR PARTNERSHIPS AND OTHER EFFORTS.
THIS IS REALLY A UNIQUE PROGRAM AND THAT IT IS FOR MAINLY FOR THE, THE EMPLOYEES AND THE FULFILLMENT CENTERS, WHERE THEY REALIZE THOSE INDIVIDUALS AREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT FOREVER.
SOME OF THOSE JOBS, WE PHASED OUT AND AMAZON ACTUALLY PAYS TO HAVE THEIR EXISTING EMPLOYEES RE-SKILLED FOR JOBS THAT SOME OF THEM MAY BE OFFERED IN AMAZON, BUT SOME OF THEM THEY MAY GO ELSEWHERE.
SO, IT'S REALLY ABOUT HELPING THEIR OWN EMPLOYEES WITH THIS OPPORTUNITY.
THIS PARTICULAR ONE HAPPENS TO BE THE MECHATRONIC PROGRAM AND EACH BUILD UP, BUT WE'VE DONE THIS IN OTHER AREAS AS WELL.
ARE WE OTHER THAN JUST COLLEGE OPERATION? WHAT ELSE WOULD THE OPERATING BUDGET COVER? SUPPLIES AND SO ON BUT IT ALSO COVERS AGAIN AS WE BILL AMAZON, AND THEY PAY FOR IT.
WE GET REVENUE SOURCE FOR THIS.
THE OPERATING BUDGET IS NOT JUST THE EXPENSES.
THIS IS WHAT GOES UNDER WHAT WE CALL IT.
IT'S A LINE ITEM ON THE REVENUE SIDE, CALLED EDUCATIONAL AGREEMENTS AND THIS IS WHERE THAT REVENUE GOES IN TO OFFSET ANY EXPENSES THAT WE HAVE WITH THE PROGRAM.
SO, IT'S NOTHING MORE THAN TEACHING AND THE COST OF TEACHING.
AND THEN C2 IN LOOKING AT THIS.
THAT WAS ALSO SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT OPERATING BUDGET.
BUT I COULDN'T FIGURE OUT IF YOU LOOK AT THE ARTICLE OF THE APPROVED, THE AGREEMENT.
IT THOSE PARAGRAPHS THAT TALKED ABOUT THAT ONE IS EXACTLY TO SAY THERE'S NO FURTHER INFORMATION GIVEN.
DALLAS REQUIRES THAT THE BOARD HAD A PASSES RESOLUTION TO GRANT.
THIS PART OF IT HAS NOW EXPENSE MONEY ASSOCIATED WITH IT.
IT IS REALLY JUST THE RESOLUTION TO DO THAT THE PLACE FOR THE OPERATING BUDGET.
WOULD COME INTO PLACES WHEN WE ACTUALLY WOULD BE PAYING FOR SITE WORK AND OTHER THINGS THAT WE MIGHT DO TO PUT THIS RIGHT IT FOR THE APPROVAL OF AGREEMENT OF BEFORE WATER AND WASTEWATER EASEMENTS WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS AT RICHMOND COLLEGE.
IF YOU READ THAT PARAGRAPH ABOUT PURPOSE.
[02:55:03]
THE EXACT IMAGE OF WHAT IS IN THE BACKGROUND PARAGRAPH.HELLO? LITTLE DIFFERENT, BUT THIS IS AN EASEMENT AND THEY'RE BASICALLY BOTH THE SAME THE PURPOSE IN THE BACKGROUND IS WE NEEDED TO HAVE EASEMENT.
SO, SO, WE ARE GIVING THEM THE PROPERTY.
THE PROPERTY IS STILL OUR PROPERTY.
IT'S GRABBING THEM, USE IT FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE EASEMENT.
RIGHT? I I REALLY PREFER TO ROB ON THAT STUFF, BUT YEA USE OF PROPERTY.
IT'S A, IT'S IN THIS INSTANCE, IT'S A SUBSURFACE USE OF THE PROPERTY FOR INSTALLATION OF WATER AND WASTEWATER LINES.
THERE WILL BE SOME LIMITATION ON THE USE OF THE SURFACE.
BUT IT'S, IT'S NOT A, IT ISN'T NECESSARILY PERPETUAL FOR ONE THING BECAUSE EASEMENTS CAN BE CHANGED, BUT ALSO, WE CAN STILL USE THE SURFACE PROVIDED.
WE DON'T INTERFERE WITH THE SUBSURFACE RIGHTS OF THE EASEMENT OLDER.
EVERYTHING FROM THE INDICATIVE LANDSCAPING, THA KIND OF THING.
FROM THE SURFACE, AND WE CAN DO ON THAT SURFACE.
WHAT THESE THINGS PERMIT US TO DO, AS LONG AS WE DON'T INTERFERE WITH THE SUBSURFACE RIGHTS THAT WE'VE CONVEYED TO THE CITY OF DALLAS, AND THEY'RE EXTENDING THOSE WATER AND WASTEWATER LINES FOR THE BENEFIT OF THE DISTRICT.
CITY OF DALLAS TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE DISTRICT PROPERTY UPON INSTALLATION THAT THE NEW UTILITY SERVICE.
THAT THE EASEMENT PROVIDES THAT, THEY WILL RESTORE TH SURFACE TO THE CONDITION.
THAT IT WAS IN PRIOR TO THE INSTALLATION OF THE WATER AND WASTEWATER LINES.
THAT'S PRETTY TRADITIONAL WITH AN EASEMENT BILL.
THEY'LL INSTALL THE SUBSURFACE IMPROVEMENTS.
WHICH CONSIST OF PIPES AND OTHER FACILITIES, TRANSPORT, WATER AND WASTEWATER, AND THEN THEY'LL RESTORE THE SURFACE TO ITS ORIGINAL CONDITION.
AND THAT'S A CONDITION OF THE CITY GETTING TH EASEMENT FROM THE DISTRICT.
BACKGROUND, BEING THE SAME, THERE WAS NO INFORMATION GIVEN OTHER THAN THE PLATS THAT WERE GIVEN AS EXAMPLES IN THE BACK OF THE AGREEMENT.
SO, THERE WASN'T MUCH ABOUT THIS ONE.
TRUSTEE ZIMMERMANN AND I APOLOGIZE IF I DID NOT GIVE YOU ENOUGH TIME TO RESPOND WHEN I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS OR CONSENT AGENDA ITEM TO BE CONSIDERED SEPARATELY.
SO, WE'LL MOVE ON WITH ALL IN FAVOR ONCE AGAIN ALL IN FAVOR.
YEAH, I THINK WE NEED TO DO A ROLL CALL SINCE WE CAN SEE WHO'S SAYING WHAT? SO, LET'S GO AHEAD AND DO A ROLL CALL.
IS THAT TRUSTEE WILLIAMS? HE DIDN'T COME ACROSS CLEARLY, WILLIAMS, SONNY WILLIAMS. TRUSTEE ZIMMERMANN.
MS. FLORES SO, A CONSIDERED AGENDA PASSES.
