THIS IS THE LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT. WHICH PART OF WHAT WE DO WHEN WE'RE THERE O ADVOCATE FOR DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE EFORE THE LEGISLATURE. PARTICULARLY, IN THIS SESSION, THE REAUTHORIZATION OF THE HIGH ARE ED ACT, SHORT-TERM PELL, SECOND CHANCE PELL, DREAMER STATUS.

A UMBER OF THINGS WE GO BEFORE THE LEGISLATURES TO VOICE OUR OPINION. AND AS A TRUSTEE, IT'S ONE THING. AS A STUDENT, IT'S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BALL GAME. THESE GUYS GET TO SEE AND LADIES GET TO SEE THE STUDENTS AND HEAR THEIR EXPERIENCES ON A FIRST HAND BASIS. TO HEAR WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A FIRST IN YOUR FAMILY TO GO TO COLLEGE AND ALL THE THINGS THEY ARE ABLE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT THE LEGISLATURE HAS COMPLETE CONTROL OVER. IT'S NOT JUST GOING TO SEE A MONUMENT. IT'S A WORKING ESSION.

AND THESE STUDENTS REALLY MADE US PROUD.

THE STORIES, THE CONVERSATION WITH THE LEGISLATURES LEGISLATORS, EDDIE JOHNSON, MARK BEESY, VERY GOOD SESSION.

IT'S A BUSY TIME BUT ALSO A FACE-TO-FACE MEETING WITH SOMEONE WHO HAS THE RENT CONTROL OVER THEIR LIFE AND FAMILIES' LIFE AND THE FUTURE OF OTHER CHILDREN.

IT WAS GREAT TO HAVE TRUST COMPTON AND JAMESON THERE AS WELL. JUST ALL THE WAY AROUND, A GREAT EVENT THAT BRINGS TOGETHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS, COMMUNITY COLLEGES, EMPLOYERS ALL FOR THE COMMON GOOD OF REALLY HELPING THESE INDIVIDUALS BE ABLE TO COME GET A GREAT EDUCATION AND A GREAT JOB AND STAND THERE SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH STUDENTS AND PRINCIPALS AND EMPLOYERS ALL TOGETHER.

I THINK I MENTIONED LAST YEAR THE TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION, COMMISSIONER ALVAREZ LIKED IT SO MUCH HE SET UP A STATE WIDE TEXAS SIGNING DAY BASED ON HIS EXPERIENCE LAST YEAR AT CEDAR VALLEY OR THE EAR BEFORE. BEEN EARING A LOT OF COMMENTS OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS FROM FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATORS AND OTHERS. ABOUT LAST WEEK'S TWO DAYS OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. I UNDERSTAND THERE WERE EXCELLENT SESSIONS. I HEARD SPEAKERS REFERENCED AND QUOTED. AND I JUST THANK THE EMPLOYEES WHO HELP PULL THIS TOGETHER AND PARTICIPATED IN THOSE EVENTS AT EACH OF YOUR LOCATIONS. ALSO, WANT TO RECOGNIZE CEDAR VALLEY. CEDAR VALLEY WAS RECENTLY RECOGNIZED AT THE CASE CONFERENCE.

CASE IS THE ASSOCIATION THAT FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FUNDRAISERS, ADVANCEMENT, WORKING WITH FOUNDATION AND DONORS AND OTHERS. AND THEY RECEIVED AN AWARD FOR THEIR INSTITUTIONAL CAMPAIGNS, THE INSTITUTIONAL IDENTITY PROGRAM. WHICH WAS OUTSIDE THE BOX IN MOVING DESIGNS IN UNUSUAL SPACES.

AND SPECIALTY AND PRINT ADVERTISESS PROJECTS OUT OF HOME

MEDIA DRIVING DYNAMIC DESIGNS. THE STAFF WAS FEATURED DESIGNS ON THE DIESEL TRUCK AND SECONDARY TRAILER AND MARKET PROGRAMS TO STUDENTS AND STUDENTS RECEIVE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE. THE SECOND VEHICLE WAS FEATURED AS A MOBILE TRAINING LAB FOR EMPLOYEES IN THE SOUTH DALLAS AREA, GREAT WORK. CONGRATULATIONS.

THAT'S GREAT NEWS. LET'S MOVE TO SOME SERIOUS NEWS.

AS WE THINK ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH THE CORONAVIRUS OR AS NOW REFERRED TO AS THE COVED 19.

WE CERTAINLY HAVE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS BEEN PREPARING AS THE DISTRICTED AND COLLEGES, AND REALLY HAVE OPERATIONALIZED OUR PREPAREDNESS TEAMS THROUGHOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND CONTINUE TO WORKING CLOSELY WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES TO MONITOR ANY LOCAL TRANSMISSION.

YOU MAY HAVE HEARD THERE WAS A CASE IN S S SAN ANTONIO WHICH RESULTS IN SOME DRAMATIC ACTIONS HAVING BEEN TAKING PLACE IN CITY AND COUNTY WITH WITH THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT AND OTHERS. AND WE HAVE EEN TALKING, WALKING THROUGH THESE, AS TO OT FRANKLY I HATE TO SAY, I THINK IT'S NOT A MATTER OF IF BUT WHEN WE ARE GOING TO BE SEEING CASES APPEAR IN OUR AREAS. AND THAT WE WILL NEED TO REACT APPROPRIATELY. WE ARE AWARE THAT MANY STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES MAY HAVE TRAVEL PLANS THIS SPRING BREAK FOR EXAMPLE. AND WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO MONITOR THAT. ON FEBRUARY -- FIRST PART OF FEBRUARY, WE ALSO CONTACTED OUR JANITORIAL VENDORS AND CONFIRMED THEY WERE FOLLOWING THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT'S RECOMMENDATIONS ON FREQUENT CLEANING OF REQUENTLY TOUCHED SURFACES LIKE DOORKNOBS.

WE CONFIRMED THEY WERE FOLLOWING THOSE PROTOCOLS.

AS FAR AS PREPARATION, WE'VE BEEN IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH OUR COURTER PARTS IN CITY MANAGEMENT, ESPECIALLY DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH, STATE HEALTH AND CDC.

STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT RIGHT NOW IS HAVING DAILY CONFERENCE CALLS WE PARTICIPATE IN. AND THE CDC HAS A WEEKLY CONFERENCE CALL. ONE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT MEETINGS I ATTENDED LAST THURSDAY ALSO IN ATTENDANCE WAS THE CHIEF EPIDEMIOLOGIESOLOGIST DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. EPIDEMIOLOGIST.

UNLIKE OTHER PREVIOUS HEALTH EMERGENCIES WE WOULD PROBABLY BE LOOKING AT 14, TWO-WEEK PERIOD WHERE WHEREAS IN PREVIOUS PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUES IT WAS A SHORTER TIME PERIOD.

AS FAR AS OTHER PREPARATIONS, WE ACTUALLY UPDATED OUR EMERGENCY OPERATION PLAN, THE MULTIHAZARD PLAN.

NOW IN EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT WE CREATE A PLAN THAT WILL ADDRESS ALL EMERGENCIES VERSUS HAVING A SEPARATE PLAN FOR EACH EMERGENCY. BUT DURING THAT TIME, WE ALSO ENDED UP UPDATING ALL OUR SUPPORT OCUMENTS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCIES BECAUSE LAST YEAR WE HAD A TABLE-TOP EXERCISE FOR EACH OF OUR COLLEGES, PRESIDENT CABINET.

WE USE THE SAME SCENARIO FOR ALL, WHICH WAS A PUBLIC HEALTH

EMERGENCY. WE UPDATED OUR PLANS JUST BEFORE DOING THE TABLETOPS AND COMPLETED THE LAST ONE IN FIRST PART OF DECEMBER BEFORE WE WENT ON THE CHRISTMAS BREAK.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT RIGHT NOW, THE MAIN FOCUS IS MAKING SURE THE DIFFERENT GROUPS IN THE DISTRICT HAVE ACCURATE AND RELIABLE INFORMATION. WHAT MEAN BY RELIABLE, WE TEND TO FOCUS ON THE GUIDANCE THAT COMES FROM DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH, STATE HEALTH AND CDC BASICALLY A ONE-VOICE PROJECTION.

AND ALTHOUGH, I BELIEVE THAT THE VIRUS HAS A POTENTIAL FOR BEING HIGHLY DISRUPTIVE, I THINK WITH EVERYONE WORKING TOGETHER WITH ONE FOCUS WE'LL BE ABLE TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE.
