THE EDUCATION WORKFORCE COMMITTEE MEETING IS BEING BROADCAST OVER THE INTERNET.

AN AUDIO RECORDING AND TRANSCRIPT OF THIS MEETING ARE BEING MADE AND WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC ON THE BOARD'S WEBSITE AFTER THE MEETING AT A LATER DATE.

CHANCELLOR, CAN YOU PLEASE CONFIRM THIS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH LAW?

[2. Certification of Notice Posted for the Meeting]

MR. CHAIR, I CAN CERTIFY THIS MEETING WAS POSTED ACCORDING TO SECTION 551.054 OF TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE.

THANK YOU. IS THERE ANY CITIZENS WANTING TO SPEAK? NO ONE HAS SIGNED UP. OKAY.

WE HAVE EXCITING PRESENTATIONS THIS MORNING.

AS YOU CAN SEE, WE HAVE AN ILLUSTRIOUS CAST OF FOLKS READY TO ENLIGHTEN US ON SPONSORED PROGRAMS, STRATEGIC PROGRAMS FOR

[4.1. Sponsored Programs Strategy for Academic Success Part III: After the Award - The Road Most Rewarding]

ACADEMIC SUCCESS. IF I CAN GET MY.

UH. SO, DR.

FREEMAN, WILL YOU LEAD THIS OFF AND INTRODUCE YOUR TEAM HERE AND DEFINITELY GIVE APPROPRIATE APPLAUSE FOR FOR EVERYBODY THAT'S ON THERE? ALL RIGHT. GOOD MORNING.

THANK YOU. CHAIR BRAVO, VICE CHAIR RITTER AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

WE ARE EXCITED TO SHARE OUR FINAL PART OF THIS SERIES.

WE'VE MADE IT TO OUR FINAL DESTINATION.

WE HAD A LONG JOURNEY TOGETHER.

I HOPE THAT YOU'VE LEARNED A LOT ALONG THE WAY.

THIS IS THE LAST OF THE SERIES THAT WE HAVE FOR YOU, WHERE WE WILL TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS IN SPONSORED PROGRAMS AFTER WE GET THE AWARD, AFTER PEOPLE GIVE US THEIR MONEY, WHAT DO WE DO WITH IT? WHAT HAPPENS THERE? SO WE'RE GOING TO GO OVER TODAY THE PURPOSE OF OUR AREA ADVANCEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT, WHAT DIVISION AND SPONSORED PROGRAMS ARE, HOW WE WERE STRUCTURED BEFORE AS THE TRIPLE TRIPLE-CD, HOW WE'RE NOW THE STRATEGY AROUND THAT WORK.

WE'RE GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU A DASHBOARD OF STEWARDSHIP AND HOW WE MANAGE OUR GRANTS, HOW THAT IS TRANSPARENT TO ANYONE IN THE COLLEGE AND THE GOALS FOR EXPANDING THAT DASHBOARD.

THE PARTNERSHIP MODEL THAT WE USE IS A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT INTERNALLY AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS THAT WE WORK WITH ON OUR PROJECTS, ALONG WITH AN OVERVIEW OF HOW AT THIS POINT IN DALLAS COLLEGE, WE CALCULATE OUR RETURN OF INVESTMENT AND WHAT OPPORTUNITIES LIE AHEAD IN THAT SPACE FOR US.

THIS IS A REFRESHER TO YOU GUYS.

YOU'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE.

WE ARE MADE OF FOUR MAJOR COMPONENTS THAT ADVANCE THE STRATEGY INTEGRATION AND SPONSORSHIP, COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, GRANT MANAGEMENT SERVICES AND SPONSOR PROGRAM.

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE AN AWARD PRE AWARD AND WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE AWARD POST AWARD? OUR GOAL IS TO LEVERAGE RESOURCES AND CREATE OPPORTUNITIES TO REMOVE STUDENT BARRIERS TO SUCCESS BY SOLVING WORKFORCE PROBLEMS. AND WE DO THAT THROUGH SPONSORED PROGRAMS. SO THIS IS A HIGH LEVEL ORG CHART OF OUR AREA.

OF COURSE, CHANCELLORS AT THE TOP, YOU KNOW, REIGNING SUPREME.

AND THEN WE REPORT TO DR.

REPORT TO DR.

WILKINSON, THE VICE CHANCELLOR.

I'M IRIS FREEMAN.

I FORGOT TO REINTRODUCE MYSELF.

I'M THE ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR OF ADVANCEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT AND WE HAVE A COUPLE OF MAIN BUCKETS UNDER THAT TEAM.

THERE'S PRE AWARD TEAM THAT'S LED BY DR.

SOLOMON TENSION.

THE OTHER TEAM IS ROBIN DONOVAN, WHO'S IN THE ROOM TODAY AS WELL.

WE HAVE OUR POST AWARD TEAM LEADERS, DR.

TRICIA THOMAS ANDERSON AND SHAKIRA CHISLEY.

BOTH ARE IN THE ROOM TODAY.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ALUMNI RELATIONS TEAM IS LED BY DR.

KATHY ACOSTA, WHO'S IN THE ROOM WITH US AS WELL.

AND THEN SPONSORED PROGRAMS EXCUSE ME, SPONSORSHIP AND ADVANCEMENT TEAM IS ADRIENNE THOMPSON, WHO'S AT THE TABLE TODAY TO DISCUSS OUR PRESENTATION.

AND THEN GRANT MANAGEMENT SERVICES TEAM IS LED BY DR.

JOHN ISHAM AND OUR NOT OUR WHOLE TEAM, BUT A BIG REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR TEAM IS HERE TODAY.

SO I WANT TO ASK THEM TO STAND BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES WHO MAKES ALL THE MAGIC WORK.

SO IF YOU GUYS COULD ALL STAND AND BE SEEN WANT.

SO AS YOU KNOW THAT THERE'S NOT 36 PEOPLE IN THE ROOM, BUT WE HAVE 36 PEOPLE ON OUR TEAM.

WE'RE SITTING AT ABOUT FOUR VACANCIES.

WE SHOULD HAVE TWO NEW TEAM MEMBERS JOIN US SOON.

SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THAT'S OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITY LEVERAGING RESOURCES, PARTNERSHIPS, PROGRAMS AND OTHER CAPABILITIES TO BUILD OUR COMMUNITY AND WORKFORCE, TO IMPACT INCOME DISPARITIES THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY.

[00:05:02]

AND OUR KPIS THAT WE FOCUS ON ARE INDUSTRY AND WORKFORCE NEEDS, ALONG WITH EXPAND RESOURCES FOR STUDENTS COLLEGE SUCCESS.

SO AT THIS POINT, I AM GOING TO HAND THIS OFF TO MY COLLEAGUE AND LET THEM INTRODUCE THEMSELVES AS THEY TALK ABOUT THEIR PORTION OF THE SLIDESHOW.

ALL RIGHT. GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE.

MY NAME AGAIN IS ADRIAN THOMPSON AND I AM THE SENIOR DIRECTOR OF ADVANCEMENT STRATEGY AND INTEGRATION.

AND FIRST, WE WANT TO THANK YOU ALL FOR ALLOWING US TO COME HERE AND TALK ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE DO AND THE WORK THAT WE'RE PROUD OF AND HOW WE SERVE DALLAS COLLEGE.

I'VE BEEN HERE FOR 18 YEARS AND IT'S BEEN AMAZING.

I STARTED AS A STUDENT AND HAVE GONE UP FROM THERE, SO IT'S REALLY A DELIGHT FOR ME TO SIT HERE AND TALK TO YOU ALL ABOUT THE WORK WE DO AND THE INSPIRING WORK WE DO. AND WE HAVE GREAT LEADERSHIP THAT SUPPORT THE WORK WE DO ACROSS THE BOARD.

SO I WANT TO COMMEND OUR LEADERSHIP AND I WANT TO COMMEND YOU ALL BECAUSE YOU ALL HELP US A LOT.

AND, YOU KNOW, THE WORK THAT WE DO WITH GRANTS AND SPONSORSHIPS OVERALL.

SO THANK YOU FOR THAT SUPPORT.

SO WHAT I WANT TO DO A LITTLE RECAP OF THE LAST TIME DR.

FREEMAN AND ROBIN SIT HERE AND TALK TO YOU ALL ABOUT THE WORK THAT WE DO.

SO THEY WERE TALKING TO YOU FROM THE PRE AWARD POINT OF VIEW, WHICH IS BASICALLY WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE WE GET A GRANT.

THE PROCESS OF RESEARCHING AND GOING THROUGH THE PLANS TO GET THAT GRANT, WORKING COLLABORATIVELY, COLLABORATIVELY ACROSS ALL OF DALLAS COLLEGE WITH THE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS AND OPERATION AREAS TO GET THOSE GRANTS DONE.

SO A LOT OF WHAT WE DID WITH THAT, WE TALKED ABOUT THE DISCOVERY AND DESIGN APPROACH FOR GETTING THOSE GRANT.

WE ALSO TALKED ABOUT THE CONTINUOUS EVOLUTION THAT THROUGH THIS PROCESS WE'VE HAD TO CHANGE THE WAY WE DO WORK, BASICALLY TO BE FLEXIBLE AND NIMBLE AND FIT IN WITH WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE, BECAUSE FUNDERS ARE DIFFERENT AND THEY HAVE DIFFERENT EXPECTATIONS.

SO OUR WORK IS VERY FLEXIBLE.

WE ALSO TALK ABOUT INNOVATION.

WE ARE ONE OF THE INNOVATION ARMS OF DALLAS COLLEGE, SO WE GET TO BE CREATIVE AND IT'S KIND OF LIKE WE GET TO HAVE FUN WITH MONEY, BUT WE HAVE TO DO IT IN A WAY WHERE WE'RE FOLLOWING THE REGULATIONS AND RULES.

SO THAT'S PART OF IT.

AND THEN WE EXPAND ACCESS.

A LOT OF OUR FUNDS ALLOW FOR OUR STUDENTS TO DO THINGS THAT JUST OUR WHAT WE CALL THE FUND 11 BUDGET, THE MAIN BUDGET WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO.

BUT WITH GRANT FUNDS, WE'RE ABLE TO EXPAND ACCESS AND DO A LOT OF THINGS AND THEN WE INTEGRATE.

SO WHAT'S WORKED? SO WE INTEGRATE, INTEGRATE PROVEN PRACTICES.

SO WHAT'S GOOD FROM THOSE GRANTS THAT WE DO AND HOW CAN WE BASICALLY SUSTAIN THAT FOR DALLAS COLLEGE? SO DR. RICARDO, HE'S GOING TO.

RODRIGUEZ I'M SORRY.

HE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT LATER ON IN THE PRESENTATION ABOUT OUR PLANS FOR SUSTAINABILITY AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO USE THE ROI FOR THAT.

AND THEN LASTLY, WE ARE A GREAT WAY TO CREATIVITY AND FORECASTING.

WE ARE THE TRIAL AREA OF THE KIND OF LIKE THE PIVOT POINT TO DO A LOT OF THINGS TO BRING SUCCESS TO DALLAS COLLEGE.

SO THOSE KIND OF RECAP OF WHAT THEY TALKED ABOUT.

AND NOW WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE STRUCTURE, THE POST AWARD STRUCTURE AND A LITTLE BIT ABOUT PRE AWARD TWO.

SO BEFORE WE BECAME DALLAS COLLEGE, WHICH WE'RE GOING TO SAY PRIOR TO 2020, WE HAD SEVEN, SEVEN SEPARATE CAMPUSES THAT YOU ALL KNOW, THEY WERE ACCREDITED SEPARATELY.

SO WITH THAT, EACH COLLEGE HAD THEIR OWN RULES THE WAY THEY DID THINGS.

ONE GRANT DEPARTMENT COULD DO IT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER GRANT DEPARTMENT, WHICH ALSO SOMETIMES LED TO COMPETITION FOR GRANTS.

SO WE HAD A LOT OF OUR COLLEGES COMPETING FOR THE SAME GRANT OPPORTUNITY SOMETIMES, WHICH MAYBE THREE WOULD GET IT, BUT THE OTHER TWO WOULD NOT BECAUSE OF THE COMPETITION FACTOR THAT WAS IN THERE.

WE ALSO HAD VARIOUS PROCESSES.

SO YOU COULD GO TO ONE CAMPUS AND SAY, THIS GRANT AWARD SHOULD BE HANDLED.

THIS WAY, WHEREAS IF YOU WERE AT ANOTHER CAMPUS, IT WOULD BE HANDLED DIFFERENTLY.

AND THEN LASTLY, WITH THAT BEING DONE, IT CREATED A BARRIER TO BEING ABLE TO SCALE THE WORK THAT WE DO.

SO YOU COULD ALWAYS SAY THAT LOOK GOOD AT THIS COLLEGE, SO LET'S EXPAND THAT SERVICE TO THIS, ANOTHER COLLEGE, BECAUSE IT WAS JUST DIFFERENT IN THE WAY THE GRANT WAS TREATED WOULD BE DIFFERENT.

SO WITH THAT, THOUGH, I WANT TO COMMEND OUR COLLEAGUES AND I WAS ONE OF THOSE THAT WORKED IN THE OLD MODEL, EVEN THOUGH BEFORE THAT WE STILL HAD 60 GRANTS AND WE WE STILL HAVE $40 MILLION.

SO THAT WAS AWESOME FOR A COLLEGE TO HAVE THAT MUCH IN GRANT GRANTS.

SO I WANT TO COMMEND OUR COLLEAGUES THAT WORKED HARD ON THAT IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS BECAUSE WHAT THEY DID, THEY SET THE FRAMEWORK FOR US TO BE ABLE TO BUILD A

[00:10:09]

STRUCTURED, CENTRALIZED UNIT FOR DALLAS COLLEGE.

SO TODAY. DAY.

IF YOU LOOK AT IT, WE HAVE THE DIVISION OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS, WHICH IS OUR POST AWARD TEAM, WHICH YOU SAW MANY STAND UP, BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO IT WHERE IT IMPROVES COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION.

SO WE DON'T JUST WORK WITHIN OUR TEAMS. WE OUR AREA COLLABORATES WITH EVERYONE AT DALLAS COLLEGE AND WE HAVE TO BECAUSE EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GRANT WORK AT DALLAS COLLEGE AND THAT INCLUDES OUR OPERATIONS.

OUR SCHOOL LOVES OUR ACADEMIC SIDE OF THE HOUSE IN THE STUDENT SUCCESS AND OUR WORKFORCE.

WE HAVE GRANTS IN ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT AREAS.

EXCUSE ME. YES, MA'AM.

SO THANK YOU FOR ACKNOWLEDGING HOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THE PAST HAS INFORMED NOW WHAT'S HAPPENING AS DALLAS COLLEGE AND ALSO ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE WORK THAT WAS DONE BACK THEN WAS VERY GOOD.

BUT HOW NOW UNDER DALLAS COLLEGE IS EVEN BETTER.

SO THANK YOU.

I WANT TO AND MY FINANCE TEAM BACK THERE PROBABLY GET ANGRY WITH ME.

BUT MY MY QUESTION IS, IS THAT WITH WITH THE GRANT MONEY WE'RE GETTING BECAUSE YOU MADE A STATEMENT ABOUT WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE FLEXIBILITY WHEN WE GET GRANT MONEY VERSUS WHEN WE USING TAX MONEY OR WHATEVER.

WHY DO WE NOT PUT ALL OF OUR GRANTS THROUGH THE FOUNDATION AND HAVE MORE FLEXIBILITY THAN PUTTING THE MONEY INTO THE COLLEGE AND BEING STILL SOMEWHAT RESTRICTED BECAUSE IT DEPENDS ON THE FUNDER.

SO IF YOU'RE GETTING FUNDED THROUGH A FEDERAL GRANT, SOMETIMES THEY DON'T ALLOW FOR YOU TO PUT GRANT FUNDS WITH NONPROFITS, AND THE FOUNDATION IS CONSIDERED A NONPROFIT.

SO IT REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON WHO THE FUNDER IS.

SO WITH FOUNDATION GRANTS, THOSE TYPE OF GRANTS ARE USUALLY CORPORATE AND NONPROFIT GRANTS.

BUT WHEN THEY'RE STATE, LOCAL AND FEDERAL, WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH OUR GRANT OPERATION SERVICE BECAUSE THEY CAN'T BE ATTACHED TO A NONPROFIT SOMETIMES.

OKAY. AND SO WHAT? ONCE THE MONEY IS RECEIVED IN THE GRANT, IS THAT IF YOU GET A IF YOU GET $50 MILLION GRANT, IS THAT MONEY TRACKED SEPARATELY WITHIN OUR WITHIN OUR GENERAL FUND? YES. SO WE WE IN THE OLD SYSTEM, WE WOULD PUT THEM THEY WOULD BE TRACKED UNDER WHAT WE CALL FUND 13.

SO THAT WOULD BE TRACKED DIFFERENT AND SEPARATELY FROM THOSE FUNDS, BECAUSE PART OF WHAT WE HAVE TO DO, WE HAVE TO KNOW HOW THOSE FUNDS ARE BEING USED, BECAUSE WHEN WE HAVE AUDITORS COME DOWN OR THE FUNDERS SEND THEIR AUDITORS TO COME DOWN, WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO TELL THEM HOW THOSE FUNDS ARE USED.

AND SO WE CAN'T MIX THEM BECAUSE IT WOULD GET IT WOULD GET MESSY.

SO IF WE KEEP THEM SEPARATE, WE DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT.

AND WE CAN SHOW THEM THE BUDGET REPORTS, WE CAN GIVE THEM THE PAPERWORK, WE CAN SHOW THEM HOW THEIR RESOURCES ARE USED.

AND THAT'S ALL PART OF THE PROCESS THAT WE USE TO MAKE SURE WE ARE BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR FUNDERS OF MONEY.

PRIMARILY. THESE GRANTS, YES, MAKE UP THE RESTRICTED MONEY.

THEY ARE SPECIFIC PURPOSE.

YES. YES.

YES. THESE GRANTS HAVE BASICALLY DO WHAT I NEED YOU TO DO WITH MY MONEY AND DON'T DO NOTHING ELSE WITH IT.

BUT IT'S ALL FOR IMPROVEMENT.

SO THAT'S THE GENERAL RULE.

SO ARE YOU ALL GOING TO TALK ABOUT BECAUSE I KNOW PREVIOUSLY WE HAD A PROBLEM IN THIS PARTICULAR AREA IN TERMS OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND SO FORTH.

AND I KNOW YOU ALL CHANGED THE TRAINING AND SO FORTH.

ARE YOU GOING TO DISCUSS THAT? YES. DR. TRICIA THOMAS WILL GIVE YOU ANDERSON WILL GIVE YOU A FULL REPORT ON HOW WE DO THAT AND THE NEW THINGS THAT WE DEVELOPED TO MAKE SURE WE'RE BEING ACCOUNTABLE.

THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME.

OKAY. SO ANOTHER THING THAT WE BROUGHT IN LINE WITH TRUSTEE COMPTON IS THAT WE ESTABLISH ACCOUNTABILITY AND PROCESSES TO STEP IN OUR PROCESS TO MAKE SURE WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE WORK WE'RE DOING, TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF THE FUNDS, BUT ALSO TO BASICALLY KEEP DALLAS COLLEGE OUT OF TROUBLE.

YOU KNOW, THAT'S PART OF WHAT WE DID WHEN WE CENTRALIZED EVERYTHING.

SO THAT WAS OVERSIGHT AND TRAINING AND SUPPORT.

SO WE DO IT ALL TO MAKE SURE OUR GRANTS ARE IN GOOD STANDING.

AND THEN LASTLY, IF YOU LOOK AT THE SCREEN, YOU CAN SEE THIS TO TO DATE, WE HAVE 105 GRANTS TOTAL AND WE HAVE 189 MILLION POST-COVID IN THE RESTRUCTURE.

AND SO I WANTED TO TALK ABOUT THAT A LITTLE JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, I THINK DR.

FREEMAN PRESENTED TO YOU ALL.

WELL, I DON'T THINK I KNOW SHE DID BECAUSE I HAVE TO LOOK AT IT.

[00:15:03]

LAST YEAR, WE HAD OVER 300 MILLION IN GRANT FUNDS, AND THAT WAS DUE TO THE FACT THAT COVID, A LOT OF THE FEDERAL AND STATE WERE GIVING US A LOT OF MONEY FOR COVID FUNDS TO HELP SUPPORT, YOU KNOW, THE WORK AND HELP US HELP OUR STUDENTS ADJUST AND EVEN HELP OUR EMPLOYEES ADJUST.

BUT NOW THOSE FUNDS HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN SPENT DOWN.

SO A LOT OF WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IN THIS 189 MILLION IS JUST THE WORK OF OUR HARD WORKING TEAM, OUR PRE-AWARD TEAM GOING OUT THERE, WORKING WITH OUR DIFFERENT COLLEAGUES AND GETTING MORE GRANTS TO SUPPORT STUDENT SUCCESS FOR DALLAS COLLEGE AND OUR POST AWARD TEAM REALLY PUTTING IN THE HARD WORK TO MAKE SURE WE ARE DILIGENT WITH OUR GRANT WORK.

SO THEREFORE COMPANIES AND FUNDERS WANT TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH US BECAUSE THEY SEE ALL THE PROCESSES AND THE THINGS WE HAVE PUT IN PLACE TO SUPPORT THE GRANT WORK AS A CENTRALIZED UNIT.

ALL RIGHT. SO NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT PARTNERSHIPS AND KIND OF COMPLIANCE AND HOW WE GO.

SO I HAVE A TRIGGER.

LET ME SEE. ALL RIGHT.

SO I WANT YOU ALL TO THINK WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS, YOU SEE VARIOUS VERSIONS OF CATS.

SO IT MAKES YOU THINK ABOUT WHY IS SHE USING CATS? WHAT IS THE PURPOSE? SO THE PURPOSE OF US USING CATS IS TO KIND OF THINK ABOUT YOUR INTERPRETATION OF A CAT.

WHEN SOMEBODY IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES RIGHT NOW AND SOMEBODY SAY, I'M GOING TO BRING YOU A CAT, WHAT DO YOU SEE? JUST A MOBILE. YES.

SO YOUR PRESENTATION, WE HAD TO UPDATE LAST NIGHT BECAUSE OF TECHNOLOGY ISSUES.

SO IF YOU CLICK ON THE LINK THAT SAYS POWERPOINT ON YOUR PDF, THAT'S THE PRESENTATION, THAT'S THIS.

WE'RE OFF BY TWO SLIDES.

THIS ONLY CHANGES IF YOU CLICK ON POWERPOINT AT THE TOP.

YEAH, BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING AT A DIFFERENT.

YEAH. SO YOU DIDN'T GET TO SEE THE CAT.

THAT'S JUST CLICK ON THE POWERPOINT? YEAH. THE SECOND TAB.

THE SECOND TAB SHOULD BE YOUR SECOND TAB.

SO THEN WE COVER SLIDE SEVEN.

A RECAP OF WHAT WE DO.

YES, BECAUSE I WAS BUSY WITH SOMETHING.

OKAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I APPRECIATE IT. ALL RIGHT.

SO AGAIN, JUST THINK ABOUT CLOSE YOUR EYES AND SOMEBODY THINK ABOUT A CAT.

SO MANY OF US HAVE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF CAT.

I'M A DOG LOVER, SO WHEN I SEE A CAT, I SEE GARFIELD BECAUSE I LIKE DOGS.

SO I'M GOING TO THINK OF A CARTOON CAT.

WHEN SOME PEOPLE SEE CATS, THEY SEE THE KITTEN THAT'S HAVE THEIR HANDS UP.

AND WHEN SOME PEOPLE SEE CATS, THEY THINK OF THE BIG LIONS AND TIGERS AND BEARS.

OH MY TYPEKIT. HOWEVER, THIS IS KIND OF THE WORK WE DEAL WITH AS A METAPHOR WHEN IT COMES TO DEALING WITH GRANTS, DIFFERENT PEOPLE, INTERPRETATIONS OF WHAT A GRANT IS, WHAT A GRANT CAN DO AND WHAT'S ALLOWED ON A GRANT.

SO THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS CENTRALIZED UNIT OF POST AWARD IS THAT WE HELP WITH THAT INTERPRETATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO THE FUNDERS AND WHAT THEY WANT, BECAUSE OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR FUNDERS ARE GETTING WHAT THEY NEED FROM US AND THAT WE'RE FOLLOWING THEIR RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT THEY HAVE IN PLACE.

SO WE USE THE CAT METAPHOR JUST TO SHOW YOU THAT, YES, INTERPRETATIONS OF GRANTS AND WHAT THEY MEAN AND WHAT THEY SUPPOSED TO DO CAN BE DIFFERENT.

HOWEVER, THE PURPOSE OF POST AWARD, AND ESPECIALLY COMPLIANCE, IS TO MAKE SURE THAT INTERPRETATION IS CLOSER TO WHAT THE FUNDER WANTS US TO DO, CLOSER TO WHAT DALLAS COLLEGE RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE AS FAR AS OPERATIONS, AND THEN MAKING IT WHERE OUR GRANT MANAGERS AND GRANT PROJECT DIRECTORS CAN UNDERSTAND THAT INTERPRETATION TO KEEP US IN LINE WITH GRANTS.

BECAUSE GUESS WHAT? IF ANYBODY GO TO JAIL FOR DOING WRONG BY A GRANT, IT'S GOING TO BE JUSTICE.

SO BASICALLY THIS HE SAID IT WAS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE FINANCE.

I DON'T I DON'T LOOK GOOD IN STRIPES.

SO OUR TEAM WORKS TO KEEP JUSTIN OUT OF JAIL.

JUST THINK ABOUT IT LIKE THIS.

SO THAT'S PART OF THE WORK THAT WE DO.

SO WITH THAT, WE LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND WE ACTUALLY GO TO TRAININGS.

WE ACTUALLY HOST WORKSHOPS BASED ON THOSE TRAININGS TO LET EVERYONE KNOW WHAT THOSE FEDERAL GUIDELINES MEAN, OUR TEAM AND OUR COMMEND THEM.

OUR POST AWARD COMPLIANCE TEAM JUST DID A WHOLE SERIES FOR THIS WHOLE YEAR AND MONTHLY.

THEY WERE TRAINING INDIVIDUALS TO UNDERSTAND GRANT WORK AND EVERY MONTH THEY HAD A DIFFERENT SESSION.

SO WE DO A LOT OF TRAINING AND WE TEND TO ATTEND TRAININGS OURSELVES TO HELP.

SO WHEN YOU SEE KAT, THAT'S WHAT WE WANT YOU TO THINK OF.

YES, IT MAY MEAN DIFFERENT THINGS, BUT WE DEVELOP THE BEST INTERPRETATION FOR DALLAS COLLEGE TO KEEP US AS GOOD STEWARDS OF THESE FUNDERS, THE FUNDS THAT WE RECEIVE.

[00:20:06]

SO HERE AND WITH THAT BEING SAID, PART OF OUR FUNDING THAT HELPS US TO BUILD, DEVELOP PARTNERSHIPS.

SO THAT IS THE STRATEGY THAT POST-AWARD USE.

WE DON'T LOOK AT IT AS BACK IN THE PAST, COMPLIANCE WAS KIND OF CALLED THE POLICE OF GRANTS.

THE OVERSEER OF GRANTS, THE OH MY GOD, I DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY'RE GOING TO TELL ME WHAT I CANNOT DO.

WELL, RIGHT NOW WE ARE PARTNERING WITH EVERYBODY.

WE'RE COLLABORATING.

SO IF WE HAVE GRANTS AND PEOPLE BE LIKE, I DON'T KNOW IF I WANT TO DO THAT, WE TALK THEM THROUGH IT.

WE DEVELOP DIFFERENT WAYS.

WE'RE ON THE PHONE CONSTANTLY.

WE'RE HAVING SEVERAL MEETINGS A DAY.

WE'RE EVEN USING COMPRESSION PLANNING AS A CONCEPT TO HELP PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THINGS.

WE HAVE VARIOUS STRATEGIES THAT WE USE BECAUSE WE REALLY WANT TO DEVELOP A PARTNERSHIP AND WE DON'T WANT TO BE SEEN AS THE POLICE OF GRANTS.

WE WANT TO BE SEEN AS SOMEBODY THAT YOU PARTNER WITH AND WORK WITH.

SO WE DO THESE PARTNERSHIPS BY AT THE START, WHEN WE GET A GRANT, WE HAVE A TEAM OF OF GROUP THAT HELPS WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE GRANT.

WE ALSO AGAIN USE COLLABORATIVE APPROACHES THAT I JUST SPOKE OF AND WE MAKE SURE THE GRANT HAS A TIMELY START UP SO THAT WE WON'T BE DELAYED IN GETTING A GRANT OFF THE GROUND ANYMORE.

SO THESE ARE ALL THE STRATEGIES WE HAVE PUT IN PLACE.

AND NOW I'LL LET MY COLLEAGUE, DR.

TRICIA THOMAS ANDERSON, GIVE YOU MORE DETAILS ABOUT THE SUPPORT STRATEGY THAT WE'RE USING ON THE COMPLIANCE SIDE TO HELP WITH GRANTS.

GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE.

GOOD MORNING. GOOD MORNING. SO AS DR.

THOMPSON MENTIONED, WE HAVE DEVELOPED A POST AWARD STRATEGY THAT REALLY EMBRACES PARTNERSHIP THROUGHOUT DALLAS COLLEGE WITH ALL OF OUR COLLEAGUES, OUR GRANT MANAGERS AND GRANT PERSONNEL THAT ARE WORKING ON IMPLEMENTING, IMPLEMENTING GRANTS.

AND SO THE POST AWARD STRATEGY AFTER THE GRANT HAS ACTUALLY RECEIVED AND BRIDGED OVER TO US FROM PRE AWARD REALLY CONTINUES THROUGHOUT THE LIFE OF THE GRANT.

SO FROM START TO CLOSE OUT, OUR POST AWARD TEAM IS WORKING WITH GRANT MANAGERS, GRANT PERSONNEL, THE LEADERSHIP OF THOSE DIVISIONS WHERE THOSE GRANTS LIE. AND WE DO SO WITH TWO POST AWARD TEAMS. AS DR. FRIEDMAN MENTIONED EARLIER, THERE ARE TWO POST AWARD TEAMS, MYSELF AND TAKIRA CHISLEY LEAD THOSE TWO TEAMS AND SO ON.

A GRANT IS AWARDED AND ASSIGNED IS ASSIGNED TO ONE OF THE TEAMS AND WE ALL WORK WITH THE DIFFERENT AREAS.

SOME OF US ARE ASSIGNED TO CERTAIN SCHOOLS OF SOME OF US FOR THE LARGER DIVISIONS SUCH AS WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT AND STUDENT SUCCESS.

WE BOTH HAVE AREAS THAT ARE ASSIGNED UNDER OUR TEAMS DEPENDING ON THEIR NEEDS.

AND SO WE ACTUALLY IDENTIFY A DEDICATED COMPLIANCE DIRECTOR FOR EACH GRANT MANAGER AND EACH GRANT THAT WILL WORK WITH THE GRANT THROUGH GRANT MANAGEMENT, COMPLIANCE AND IMPLEMENTATION.

AND THEN OF COURSE, THEY HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE SENIOR DIRECTOR AS WELL AS A COORDINATOR TO ASSIST WITH GRANT RELATED FUNCTIONS THROUGHOUT IMPLEMENTATION.

SO IN GRANT COMPLIANCE, WHAT DOES GRANT COMPLIANCE REALLY MEAN IN THAT ROLE AND THAT WORK THAT WE DO? WE BASICALLY PROVIDE GRANT MANAGEMENT AND GRANT COMPLIANCE OVERSIGHT.

SO ANYTHING THAT'S GOING TO BE AN EXPENDITURE ON A GRANT, WHETHER IT'S TRAVEL, PURCHASING OF SUPPLIES, EQUIPMENT, EVEN COMPENSATION OF GRANT FUNDED PERSONNEL IS GOING TO COME THROUGH OUR OFFICE.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO REVIEW THAT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT'S IN ALIGNMENT, AS DR.

THOMPSON MENTIONED, WITH THE FUNDING AGENCIES REQUIREMENTS, WITH THE REGULATIONS, WHETHER IT BE THE FEDERAL REGULATIONS OR OTHER GUIDELINES FROM OUR STATE FUNDERS TO ENSURE THAT IT'S IN ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT WE PROPOSE AND WE'RE AWARDED TO DO AS WELL AS FEDERAL GUIDELINES.

AND SO IN ADDITION TO EXPENDITURES, YOU KNOW, BEYOND JUST THE ACTIVITIES AND THE SUPPORT OF THE PARTICULAR PROJECT, WE ALSO REVIEW ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORTS BEFORE THEY'RE SUBMITTED TO THE FUNDING AGENCY.

WE REVIEW ANY COMMUNICATIONS.

WE GIVE ADVICE ON WHAT MIGHT NEED PRIOR APPROVAL FROM A FUNDING AGENCY.

SO BASICALLY ALL OF THE INTERNAL CONTROLS KIND OF START WITH GRANT COMPLIANCE.

DR. THOMPSON ALSO MENTIONED THE ONGOING TRAINING THAT WE PROVIDE.

SO IF YOU'RE A BRAND NEW GRANT MANAGER, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A BRAND NEW GRANT MANAGER EMPLOYEE AT DALLAS COLLEGE, YOU'RE GOING TO GO THROUGH A PRETTY COMPREHENSIVE GRANT MANAGEMENT TRAINING.

AND SO FOR NEW EMPLOYEES TO DALLAS COLLEGE, WHO ARE ALSO GRANT MANAGERS, YOU KNOW, THEY MAY ATTEND SIX HOURS OF TRAINING SO THAT THEY UNDERSTAND, YOU KNOW, THE NATURE OF THEIR GRANT, THE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THEIR GRANT, NOT JUST THE FUNDING AGENCY REQUIREMENTS, BUT OUR DALLAS

[00:25:02]

COLLEGE COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS SO THAT THEY.

STAND, YOU KNOW, OPERATIONS, HOW TO NAVIGATE THROUGH THE SYSTEM AND BE ABLE TO GET THE WORK DONE IF YOU'RE TRYING TO GET DONE, IF THEY ARE A NEW GRANT MANAGER AND THEY'RE DALLAS COLLEGE EMPLOYEE, IT MIGHT NOT BE QUITE AS RIGOROUS BECAUSE THEY'RE PROBABLY SOMEWHAT FAMILIAR WITH OPERATIONS AND DIFFERENT PROCUREMENT AND EQUIPMENT AND, YOU KNOW, HR STANDARDS.

BUT THEY WILL STILL, YOU KNOW, GO THROUGH A TRAINING SO THAT THEY'RE PREPARED FOR THE WORK THAT'S GOING TO BE DONE WITH THAT GRANT.

AND THEN, OF COURSE, SOME OF OUR GRANT MANAGERS MIGHT WANT CONTINUED SUPPORT AND MENTORING AGAIN, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE A NEW GRANT MANAGER, THEY'RE NEW TO DALLAS COLLEGE. AND SO WE WILL PROVIDE A MENTORING, YOU KNOW, FOR THE FIRST THREE MONTHS OR BEYOND, DEPENDING ON THE COMFORT LEVEL OF THAT GRANT MANAGER.

AND THEN OF COURSE, WE HAVE ONGOING IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL TRAININGS ON DIFFERENT AREAS OF GRANT MANAGEMENT AND COMPLIANCE SO THAT WE'RE NOT JUST PROVIDING THAT SUPPORT, BUT, BUT WE ARE ALSO EMPOWERING OUR GRANT MANAGERS AND GRANT PERSONNEL TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN REGARDS TO GRANT MANAGEMENT AND COMPLIANCE ON THEIR OWN AS THEY'RE NAVIGATING AND TRYING TO IMPLEMENT THEIR PROJECTS.

EXCUSE ME, DO YOU WANT US TO HOLD OUR QUESTIONS TO THE END? AND THERE'S A LOT HERE IF YOU CAN, THAT WOULD BE GREAT PRESS, INCLUDING PAGE NUMBERS DOWN AND WHAT MY QUESTION WAS.

OKAY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THAT.

APPRECIATE THAT. OKAY.

AND CONTINUING TO THE SUSTAIN PORTION OF WHAT WE DO.

SO WE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT AS WELL AS, YOU KNOW, THROUGH BEING ABLE TO SUSTAIN, YOU KNOW, THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PROJECT.

YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT DR.

THOMPSON MENTIONED WAS THE SUSTAINABILITY AND HOW WE ARE ESTABLISHING, YOU KNOW, A GUIDELINE FOR THAT.

BUT EVEN THROUGH THE PROJECT, THROUGH IMPLEMENTATION, THERE'S STILL A NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE PROJECT IS STAYING ON COURSE, THAT WE ARE IMPLEMENTING ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE TIMELINE THAT WE PROPOSE THAT OUR FUNDING IS IN ALIGNMENT WITH, YOU KNOW, THE TIMELINE AND HOW WE'RE SPENDING OUR FUNDS.

AND ONE WAY THAT WE DO THAT INTERNALLY IS DALLAS COLLEGE POST AWARD HAS A QUARTERLY REPORT PROCESS.

AND SO EACH QUARTER WE REQUIRE OUR GRANT MANAGERS TO COMPLETE A SUBMIT A QUARTERLY REPORT TO THEIR COMPLIANCE DIRECTORS JUST SO THAT WE HAVE NOT JUST FOR OUR AREA BUT FOR THE GRANT MANAGER AND THEIR LEADERSHIP.

YOU KNOW, THEY'RE DOING AN ONGOING FORMATIVE REVIEW OF THE PROJECT, PROGRESS ON THEIR PROJECTS.

AND SO THERE'S NO SURPRISES.

YOU KNOW, AT THE END OF THE YEAR WHEN THEY'RE GETTING READY TO DO, YOU KNOW, AN ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORT TO THE FUNDING AGENCY, THAT THEY WERE OFF ON MEETING CERTAIN DELIVERABLES OR CERTAIN BENCHMARKS THAT THEY HAVE TO REPORT ON HAVE NOT BEEN MET.

AND SO THIS GIVES THEM A WAY TO KIND OF MONITOR THAT, YOU KNOW, ONGOING AND WE CAN PROVIDE FEEDBACK WHERE THEY MAY BE, YOU KNOW, MAYBE FALLING SHORT OR THE TIMELINE IS IS SLOWER THAN EXPECTED.

AND WE CAN HELP, YOU KNOW, TO DEVELOP A PLAN TO IMPROVE THAT.

WE ALSO, AS I MENTIONED, HAVE WE REVIEW ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REPORTS, BUT WE ALSO DO A REVIEW ANNUALLY.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS A HUGE, YOU KNOW, CONTRIBUTION TO THE CENTRALIZATION OF OUR WORK IS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GRANT ACCOUNTABILITY FRAMEWORK.

THE GRANT ACCOUNTABILITY ACCOUNTABILITY FRAMEWORK WAS LAUNCHED THIS YEAR, AND BASICALLY IT'S A MUCH MORE COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF EACH PROJECT SO THAT ALL PROJECT PROJECTS ARE ON TASK.

BUT AGAIN, THEY KNOW THAT THEY'RE ON TASK.

THEY HAVE A STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE IN PLACE, YOU KNOW, SO THAT IF THE GRANT MANAGER OR THE STAFF, YOU KNOW, CHANGE, THE NEXT PERSON COMING IN WILL KNOW EXACTLY, YOU KNOW, WHERE TO PICK UP, YOU KNOW, TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT PROJECT IS BEING IMPLEMENTED, IMPLEMENTED AND SUCCESSFULLY.

THEY HAVE, YOU KNOW, INFORMATION ABOUT WHO THEY'RE WORKING WITH, WHO THEY'RE COLLABORATING WITH INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT WORK IS SUCCESSFUL.

AND IF THERE'S FOUR PILLARS OF PERFORMANCE THAT WE'LL BE LOOKING AT FOR EACH ONE OF THESE PROJECTS WHEN WE DO THE GRANT ACCOUNTABILITY REVIEW, THE FISCAL PERFORMANCE, THE COMPLIANCE PERFORMANCE, THE PROJECT PERFORMANCE ITSELF AND THE ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT PERFORMANCE, BECAUSE IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, YOU KNOW, IN ORDER FOR A PROJECT TO BE SUCCESSFUL, IT HAS TO BE SUPPORTED BY THE LEADERSHIP, BY THE AREAS THAT THEY COLLABORATE WITH WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION.

AND THERE NEEDS TO BE EVIDENCE, YOU KNOW, THAT THIS PROJECT WILL BE ABLE TO INTEGRATE WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION, YOU KNOW, SUCCESSFULLY DURING THE PROJECT AS WELL

[00:30:03]

AS AT THE END OF THE PROJECT.

WHEN THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED, SO TO SPEAK, TO THAT IN SUPPORTING THAT INTEGRATION AND THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF GRAND PROJECTS.

YOU KNOW, THERE'S TWO THINGS THAT WE PRIMARILY LOOK AT SUSTAINABILITY OF A PROJECT.

IF WE WANT THE PROJECT TO CONTINUE, YOU KNOW, AFTER THE PROJECT FUNDING IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AND INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF PROVEN STRATEGIES AND PRACTICES THAT WE LEARN THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT THAT DEFINITELY ARE GOING TO BUILD THE CAPACITY OF THE INSTITUTION THAT WE WANT TO INSTITUTIONALIZE AND HOW TO DO THAT. AND SO GUIDELINES ON EXACTLY HOW WITHIN DALLAS COLLEGE A PROJECT AND LEADERSHIP, YOU KNOW, COULD INTEGRATE AN INSTITUTIONALIZED GRANT DELIVERABLES IS SOMETHING THAT DR.

RODRIGUEZ IS WORKING ON RIGHT NOW.

HE'S ALREADY DRAFTED A PLAN BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES TO INSTITUTIONALIZATION, THE END OF THE GRANT IS NOT EXACTLY THE TIME TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS THE PLAN AND HOW WILL WE INTEGRATE, YOU KNOW, THESE PRACTICES.

SO WE WANT TO START EARLY, EVEN AT THE BEGINNING OF THE GRANT, TO START HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND THINKING ABOUT, YOU KNOW, HOW CAN THIS PARTICULAR PRACTICE, IF SUCCESSFUL, BE INSTITUTIONALIZED? AND WE KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S A MULTI YEAR GRANT BETWEEN YEAR ONE AND YEAR FIVE, THINGS MAY CHANGE.

AS WE CAN SPEAK TO, WE HAVE A WHOLE RESTRUCTURE.

YOU KNOW, DURING SEVERAL OF OUR PROJECTS THAT WERE MULTI YEAR PROJECTS THAT HAD TO BE INSTITUTIONALIZED IN A NEW STRUCTURE.

AND SO WE KNOW WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, YOU KNOW, IN SOME OF THE CHALLENGES THAT, YOU KNOW, INSTITUTIONALIZING A PROJECT WITHIN AN ORGANIZATION WHEN THINGS MAY HAVE CHANGED. BUT PART OF THAT GUIDELINE AND PLAN WOULD BE HOW TO NAVIGATE AROUND THAT, YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE SOME FOUR KEY AREAS OF THE INSTITUTION, YOU KNOW, AND, AND MAKING SURE THAT WHATEVER WE'RE DOING WITH THE PROJECT ALIGNS WITH STRATEGIC PRIORITIES OF THE INSTITUTION AND ARE FOCUSED ON THAT BECAUSE EVERY EVERY AREA WILL ALSO BE FOCUSED ON THOSE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.

AND SO IF THEY ALIGN WITH THOSE EXPECTATIONS, THEN IT SHOULD BE A LOT EASIER TO INTEGRATE A PROJECT, RIGHT? THE FIRST QUESTION. I APPRECIATE THE PRIORITY ON TRAINING AND MENTORING.

AND I'M WONDERING IN THE CONTEXT OF YOUR TRAINING, WHAT ARE YOU TRAINING WITH RESPECT TO RISK ASSESSMENT? I MEAN, WHERE DOES THIS WHERE ARE THE RISKS OF THIS BREAKING DOWN OR WHAT WHAT ARE YOU TEACHING YOUR PEOPLE TO LOOK OUT FOR? SO A LOT OF WHAT WE COVER IS BASICALLY AUDIT READINESS, YOU KNOW, AND SO NOT JUST FOLLOWING WHAT THE FUNDING AGENCY REQUIRES, BUT, YOU KNOW, AND MANY OF THOSE FUNDING, THOSE FEDERAL REGULATION, THERE'S, YOU KNOW, BENCHMARKS OR KEY INDICATORS OF WHAT A FUNDING AGENCY MIGHT IDENTIFY AS RISK.

WE ALSO COLLABORATE WITH OUR CONTRACTS AND GRANTS TEAMS BECAUSE THEY'RE THE ONES THAT ACTUALLY ARE THE FIRST POINT OF CONTACT FOR AUDITORS, AND THEY WORK COLLABORATIVE, COLLABORATIVELY WITH OUR OFFICE TO LET US KNOW WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT AN AUDITOR MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR SO THAT WE CAN INTEGRATE THOSE THOSE REQUESTS OR, YOU KNOW, NORMAL EXPECTATIONS OF RISK INTO OUR TRAINING.

I THINK THAT WHEN YOU GET TO THE NEXT SLIDE AND SHOW THE STEWARDSHIP BOARD THAT CAN SPEAK TO HOW WE ARE ABLE TO FIND EARLY WHAT'S RISKY AND BEGIN TO HELP THOSE GRANT MANAGERS BEFORE THEY GET TO THAT PLACE.

MS.. COMPTON, YOU WERE KIND ENOUGH TO WAIVE THAT POINT.

NO, I WAS GOING TO WAIT TILL THE END.

WHEN I ASK. I DIDN'T HEAR YOU.

I'M SORRY. NO.

I ASKED IF HE WANTED US TO WAIT TILL THE END.

OH, SURE, OF COURSE.

SO I'VE BEEN MAKING NOTES OF WHAT I WAS ASKED, BUT NO, I WOULDN'T.

SO I'LL ASK PHIL TO KIND OF HELP ME OUT WITH THE DASHBOARD AND CLICKING OF DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE DASHBOARD.

SO THE POWERPOINT SLIDE, YOU SAW A QR CODE THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY ACCESS THE DASHBOARD FROM YOUR DEVICE IF YOU'D LIKE TO.

BUT WE'VE CLICKED ON THE LINK INTO THE DASHBOARD.

AND SO THIS DASHBOARD WE CALL THE DALLAS COLLEGE ACTIVE GRANTS DASHBOARD.

AND SO BEFORE I EVEN GO INTO IT, I WANT TO COMMEND THE STATISTICAL RESEARCH AND ANALYTICS TEAM.

SARA, BECAUSE WITHOUT THEM, THIS WOULD NOT BE HERE.

AND SO THEY WALKED WITH US AND COLLABORATED WITH US ON WHAT WE WANTED, YOU KNOW, THE DASHBOARD TO LOOK LIKE, YOU KNOW, THE TYPE OF INFORMATION THAT WE WANTED TO BE ABLE TO PRESENT AND REALLY KIND OF HELP TO DEVELOP SOMETHING AS WE SHARE WITH THEM.

WE WANT SOMETHING KIND OF LIKE THE DATA DEPOT, YOU KNOW, AS FAR AS FOR GRANTS.

AND SO THIS TOO, IS DEFINITELY A, YOU KNOW, AN EMERGENCE OF THE CENTRALIZATION AS WE CAME INTO FROM THE OLD

[00:35:08]

DXDY TO THE DALLAS COLLEGE WAY AND HOW WE DID GRANTS, HOW WE REPORTED INFORMATION OUT TO MAKE SURE THAT GRANT MANAGERS AND GRANT PERSONNEL LEADERSHIP WERE AWARE OF THE STATUS OF GRANT GRANTS, THAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE GRANTS IN THEIR AREA WAS VERY ANTIQUATED.

I MEAN, WE LITERALLY WERE CREATING A PAGE IN A PDF FOR EACH GRANT AND EMAILING IT TO OUR LEADERSHIP.

AND SO THIS DEFINITELY IS A TRANSITION FOR THE BETTER, NOT JUST FOR THE STRATEGIES FOR HOW WE GET THAT INFORMATION OUT, BUT WE'RE ABLE TO PUT SO MUCH MORE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR GRANTS ON THE DASHBOARD.

SO YOU CAN SEE HERE, PHIL, IF YOU'LL CLICK ON LEADERSHIP.

AND SO ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT TAGS OR WAYS THAT YOU CAN NARROW DOWN THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE GRANT.

AND SO BY LEADERSHIP, YOU CAN SEE HOW FOR EXECUTIVE LEVEL LEADERS IN DIVISIONS AND THE GRANTS THAT ARE IN THEIR AREA.

YOU CAN ALSO SEE THE TOTAL NUMBER OF GRANTS, AS DR.

THOMPSON SHARED EARLIER, AND THE TOTAL DOLLARS.

SO IF YOU WILL, RIGHT CLICK ON DR.

FLOYD, YOU CAN ALSO DRILL DOWN TO THE SUMMARY AND IT'LL GIVE YOU A SNAPSHOT.

AND YOU CAN DO THIS IN PRETTY MUCH ANY FEATURE ON THE DASHBOARD.

THERE'S A RIGHT CLICK DRILL DOWN OPTION.

OF COURSE, YOU CAN PULL UP A MORE COMPREHENSIVE REPORT IF YOU NEED TO, BUT IF YOU WANT TO JUST KIND OF GET A SNAPSHOT OR YOU'RE TRYING TO GET TO INFORMATION WITHIN THAT PARTICULAR AREA QUICKER, YOU KNOW, THIS IS A QUICKER WAY TO DO THAT.

SO YOU CAN CLICK ON THE BACK BUTTON AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO GO TO IS THE PROGRAM TITLE.

AND SO EVERY PROGRAM THAT IS ALL 105IN DALLAS COLLEGE, YOU CAN SEE ON BOTH SLIDES ON BOTH AREAS.

AND SO AS YOU LOOK AT THE DIFFERENT PROGRAM AREAS, YOU'LL SEE SOME THAT HAVE MORE THAN ONE OF THE SAME TYPE OF GRANT.

FOR EXAMPLE, OUR TRIO PROJECTS, OUR SSDF PROJECTS.

IF YOU'LL SCROLL UP TO THE TOP, ONE OF THE COOL FEATURES OF THE DASHBOARD THAT REALLY WAS ADDED AS A RESULT OF FEEDBACK FROM SOME OF OUR USERS, SOME OF OUR GRANT MANAGERS WAS BEING ABLE TO IDENTIFY WHAT IS THIS GRANT OR WHAT DOES IT DO, YOU KNOW, HOW IS THE MONEY SPENT? SO IF YOU JUST HOVER OVER AND WE'RE GOING TO HOVER OVER TRIO SS OVER THAT BAR, YOU GET A POP UP OF A DESCRIPTION WHERE YOU CAN GET A QUICK CATCH OF WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THE FUNDS ARE FOR.

AND, YOU KNOW, THE, THE REASON AND THE FUNDING WAS GIVEN AND WHAT ACTIVITIES ARE THE RESULTS OF THE DELIVERABLES AND OUTCOMES THAT EACH PROJECT IS.

THERE'S A TYPO. I SEE IT, I ALWAYS SEE IT AFTER.

THANK YOU. THIS IF YOU SCROLL DOWN TO HRSA, WHICH IS ONE OF THE PROJECTS THAT DR.

UMEH IS GOING TO BE HIGHLIGHTING, SAME THING.

YOU KIND OF GET AN IDEA OF WHAT THAT PROGRAM IS ABOUT.

AND WE WE'LL SCROLL UP TO THE NURSING SHORTAGE GRANT ALSO.

EITHER ONE. NURSING OVER 70.

SAME THING. YOU'LL GET A QUICK DESCRIPTION OF WHAT THAT PROJECT IS ABOUT.

SO CAN YOU CLICK ON AGENCY BACK OVER IN THE MENU TABS? AND THIS ONE JUST GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT FUNDING AGENCIES THAT WE'RE RECEIVING FUNDING FROM.

AND OF COURSE, YOU CAN SEE A MIX OF BOTH FEDERAL, STATE AS WELL AS SOME OF OUR PRIVATE FOUNDATION GRANTS THAT ARE BEING MANAGED AND OPERATED ON THE DALLAS COLLEGE SIDE. AND SO JUST ON THIS LIST ALONE, WE HAVE ABOUT 30 DIFFERENT FUNDING AGENCIES LISTED THERE.

AGAIN, YOU CAN SEE MULTIPLE GRANTS FROM THE SAME FUNDING AGENCY.

AND IF YOU SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM, YOU CAN SEE THAT THE USDA IS OBVIOUSLY OUR LARGEST FUNDER AND THIS IS PROJECT FUNDING ONLY.

THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL AID.

SO THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THEM WITH THE FUNDS THAT WE RECEIVE FROM FINANCIAL AID.

AND SO I TURN IT BACK OVER TO DR.

WHOM WOULD YOU DEFINE? PROCESS FUNDING FOR ME? PROCESS FUNDING.

I'M NOT A FINANCIAL PERSON.

SO HE'S GOING TO ASK YOU.

PROJECT FUNDING.

OH, I THOUGHT YOU SAID PROCESS.

SORRY. THAT'S WHAT THREW ME.

OKAY. I UNDERSTAND.

PROJECT. OKAY. GOOD MORNING, TRUSTEES.

DOCTOR LENNON AND EVERYONE.

[00:40:01]

MY NAME IS TETSUYA UMEBAYASHI.

GOOD-BYE TO EASE EASIER WAY.

IT IS A GREAT PLEASURE TO BE HERE TO SHARE EXCITING NEWS WITH YOU, AND IT IS A CLEAR EXAMPLE OF A SUCCESSFUL INTER-PROFESSIONAL COLLABORATION BETWEEN WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT TEAM AND ACADEMICS.

FIRST OF ALL, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO THANK DR.

FLOYD, DR.

WILKINS, DR.

FREEMAN, WORKFORCE AND WORKFORCE ADVANCEMENT TEAM BRAVO TEAM POST AWARD TEAM, SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES.

ADMINISTRATORS, STAFF AND FACULTY MEMBERS.

ANY ACCOMPLISHMENT I'M GOING TO SHARE COULD NOT HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED WITHOUT COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS.

SO THAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THIS IS A HIGH LEVEL ORGANIZATIONAL CHART FOR THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES.

SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES HAVE TWO DEANS AND ASSOCIATE DEANS.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING EQUITY PROGRAM IS A GRANT FUNDED POSITION AND ROBIN MANUEL IS THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR AND SHE IS GOING TO MANAGE THE DAILY OPERATIONS OF THE ONE OF THE GRANTS THAT WE RECENTLY RECEIVED.

EACH DEAN HAS THE DEPARTMENT CHAIRS.

AND SINCE MANY OF THE HEALTH CARE PROGRAMS ARE ACCREDITED THROUGH THE EXTERNAL AGENCIES, SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES, ADMINISTRATORS AND FACULTY HAVE ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES TO BE COMPLIANT WITH THOSE REQUIREMENTS.

AND IN ADDITION TO THE REGULAR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS, TEACHING AND ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES.

COMING TO THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES HAVE 51 ADMINISTRATORS AND STAFF POSITIONS AND 132 FACULTY FULL TIME FACULTY POSITIONS.

THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR THE SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF GRADUATES BY 3% AND IMPROVE FACULTY AND STAFF RETENTION BY 5%.

WE CAME UP WITH THESE PRIORITIES BASED ON THE COMMUNITY NEEDS, AND I'M GOING TO SHARE THE DATA AND TRENDS ABOUT NURSING WORKFORCE IN THE NEXT SLIDES.

I KNOW THIS SLIDE IS A LITTLE BIT SMALL.

AND THIS SLIDE, THIS INFORMATION IS PROVIDED THROUGH TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES AND PUBLISHED IN 2023. HOWEVER, THIS DATA, ACTUAL DATA IS 2019 DATA, BUT THAT IS THE MOST RECENTLY UPDATED INFORMATION.

CURRENTLY, 251,253 ARE REGISTERED NURSES IN TEXAS.

THE AVERAGE AGE IS 44 YEARS OLD.

87.2% ARE FEMALE.

12.8% ARE MALE.

I AM GOING TO ACTUALLY SHARE THE NORTH TEXAS DATA.

THAT ONE ON THE SCREEN IS FOR THE TEXAS DATA.

I AM GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU RACE AND ETHNICITY FOR THE NORTH TEXAS 63.7% OF WHITE CAUCASIAN, ONLY 7.6% ARE HISPANICS AND LATINOS, 15.6% BLACK AND AFRICAN AMERICANS AND 13.1% OTHERS.

SO WE DESPERATELY NEED TO DIVERSIFY OUR NURSING WORKFORCE IN NORTH TEXAS.

SUPPLY OF REGISTERED NURSE IN NORTH TEXAS IS PROJECTED TO GROW BY 30.3% BETWEEN 2018 AND 2032, WHILE DEMAND GROWS BY 44.6%.

WE TEXAS EXPECT THAT 57,012 NURSES ARE IN DEFICIT BY 2032.

SO THIS DATA CLEARLY TELLS US THAT WE NEED TO MAKE ADDITIONAL EFFORTS TO PRODUCE MORE NURSING GRADUATES.

AND THANK YOU TO THE LABOR MARKET INTELLIGENCE CENTER.

THE ACTUALLY ONE THE TABLE THAT YOU SEE, THEY PROVIDED THE INFORMATION FOR US.

AND THIS IS THE OCCUPATION DATA FOR THE DFW AREAS.

CURRENTLY, THERE ARE 32,000, ABOUT 32,000 JOBS.

AND THAT JOB GROWTH WILL HAVE ABOUT 1052 INCREASE BY 2026.

AVERAGE ANNUAL EARNINGS FOR THE IN WITH ASSOCIATE DEGREE, BACHELOR DEGREE OR MAYBE HIGHER IS

[00:45:05]

$84,302.40. SO WE ALREADY KNOW WE NEED MORE NURSES.

WE NEED TO PRODUCE MORE GRADUATES.

AND THIS IS OUR ACCOMPLISHMENT.

THIS YEAR, ONLY THIS ACADEMIC YEAR WE RECEIVE DALLAS COLLEGE RECEIVED THREE GRANTS FOR NURSING DEPARTMENT.

FIRST ONE HEALTH RESOURCES AND SERVICES ADMINISTRATION.

ONE OF OVER $1 MILLION WE WILL RECEIVE.

WE HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED $350,000 THIS YEAR AND WE WILL RECEIVE ADDITIONAL $350 NEXT TWO YEARS.

WOULD YOU MIND JUST BRIEFLY SAYING WHAT THAT MILLION DOLLARS WAS ASKED YOU TO DO? OF COURSE, YES. AND I AM GOING TO GO OVER EACH A LITTLE BIT MORE DETAILS ABOUT EACH GRANT IN THE NEXT SLIDES.

YES. AND THE NEXT ONE IS THE NURSING INNOVATION GRANT.

WE RECEIVED ABOUT $271,000 AND NURSING SHORTAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM FOR ABOUT $424,000.

SO THE FIRST ONE IS A ESSER GRANT, AS YOU CAN SEE.

MAYBE IF SNAKES YOU WANT TO LOOK AT IT IS A QUICK FACT.

AND I WOULD LIKE TO TELL YOU THAT WE ARE THE ONLY COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO RECEIVE THIS AWARD IN THE NATION.

AND I'VE.

THANK YOU. AND NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING REACHED OUT TO US AND ASKED, WHAT MAGIC DID YOU GUYS USE? AND ANSWER WAS, IT'S A COLLABORATIVE EFFORT.

WE HAVE A WONDERFUL TEAM TO WORK WITH.

WE HAVE A WONDERFUL WORKFORCE AND ADVANCED TEAM TO SUPPORT ACADEMICS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS.

WE COULDN'T DO THIS WITHOUT THAT COLLABORATION.

SO EVERYONE, ONCE AGAIN, THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL.

AGAIN, WE ARE THE ONLY COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO RECEIVE THESE GRANTS IN THE NATION.

IT DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

THE PURPOSE OF THIS GRANT IS TO INCREASE THE ENROLLMENT, RETENTION AND COMPLETION OF STUDENTS FROM DIVERSE AND DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS AND TO SUPPORT ENROLLMENT OF STUDENTS AND ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED POPULATIONS.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL DATA CLEARLY INDICATE THAT STUDENTS FROM DISADVANTAGED BACKGROUNDS TEND TO STRUGGLE MORE IN THE NURSING PROGRAM DUE TO LACK OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT, LACK OF FAMILY SUPPORT, SOCIAL ISOLATION.

MAYBE THERE ARE SO MANY CHALLENGES FOR THEM.

THIS GRANT IS GOING TO SUPPORT THOSE POPULATIONS.

THIS GRANT IS GOING TO PROVIDE THOSE COHORT BY COVERING THE TUITION, PROVIDING MENTORS, PEER TUTORS, OFFERING WEEKLY ENRICHMENT SESSIONS, TAUGHT BY FACULTY MEMBER AND PROVIDING COMMUNITY SERVICE LEARNING FOR THOSE WHO WISH TO PURSUE OR GOING TO BSN PROGRAM.

THE GRANT WILL PROVIDE $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP, AND THIS GRANTS ALSO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH A MANAGING FUNDING AS NEEDED.

AND I'M GOING TO SHARE AN EXAMPLE LATER ABOUT HOW EMERGENCY FUNDING HELPED THESE STUDENTS.

WE ACCEPTED 47 STUDENTS TO THE COHORT, AND THIS IS THE DEMOGRAPHIC DEMOGRAPHIC FOR THAT COHORT.

49% OF HISPANICS, LATINOS AND 38% OF BLACK AND AFRICAN AMERICANS, 11% ASIAN AND 2% WHITE AND CAUCASIAN.

87% OF THE COHORT IS FEMALE AND 13% OF THE COHORT IS MALE.

30% OF STUDENTS ARE SINGLE PARENTS.

I. I WANT YOU TO SHARE THIS SUCCESS STORY WITH YOU.

SO FOR THE ANYONE WHO HAS A VISUAL AND CHALLENGES, I'M GOING TO JUST READ THIS FOR EVERYONE.

MY NAME IS CAROLINA CAROLINA.

I'M CURRENTLY IN THE NURSING PROGRAM PROGRAM AT MOUNTAIN VIEW CAMPUS AND I AM PART OF THE PROGRAM.

THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN A GREAT HELP FOR ME, NOT ONLY IN THE NURSING PROGRAM, BUT FINANCIALLY.

NOT TOO LONG AGO, MY VEHICLE GAVE OUT ON ME AND I REACHED OUT TO ROBIN, ASSISTANT DIRECTOR.

[00:50:06]

SHE TOLD ME ABOUT THE EMERGENCY FUNDING AND GUIDED ME ON HOW TO APPLY FOR IT.

THIS WAS A HUGE BLESSING FOR ME.

THE ENRICHMENT SESSIONS HAVE BEEN VERY HELPFUL AS WELL AS THEY HELP YOU WITH STUDY TIPS AND WE GO OVER WHAT WE ARE LEARNING ABOUT.

THANK YOU ALL ONCE AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING YOU GUYS ARE DOING FOR US TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED $1,000 EMERGENCY FUNDING AND ACTUALLY THIS GRANTS CAN COVER UP TO $2,250 FOR EMERGENCY FUNDING.

SO IF THERE ARE MORE FUNDING AVAILABLE, WE WILL PROVIDE THAT ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

ANOTHER STUDENT. MY NAME IS AISHA.

IT HAS A PROGRAM, HAS ASSISTED.

ASSISTED ME IN MANY WAYS TO ACHIEVE MY NURSING DEGREE AND HAS PROVIDED ME WITH GREAT, INSPIRING AND SUPPORTIVE INSTRUCTORS WHO HAVE HELPED ME SUCCEED.

THE PROGRAM IS AMAZING AND IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I NEED FOR MY LAST SEMESTER OF NURSING SCHOOL.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE INSTRUCTORS AND TEAM WHO MADE THIS OPPORTUNITY POSSIBLE.

NEXT GRANT. THIS IS A LITTLE FUNNY STORY.

IT'S MAYBE NOT FUNNY, BUT WE HAD ONLY TWO WEEKS TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL FOR THIS GRANT.

ONLY TWO WEEKS.

I KNOW. OFTENTIMES WE GET A LITTLE SHORT PERIOD TO WRITE A PROPOSAL FOR ANY GRANT.

HOWEVER, TWO WEEKS IS A BIG SURPRISE FOR US TOO.

HOWEVER, PRE-AWARD TEAM IS AMAZING TO WORK WITH AND WE MADE IT HAPPEN AND WE GOT THIS GRANT, SO I JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT HOW COMMITTED WE WERE TO GET THIS GRANT.

AND COVID 19 PANDEMIC HAD A MASSIVE EFFECT ON LEARNING AND ACADEMIC ORGANIZATIONS, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE, AND UNDERGRADUATE NURSING PROGRAM HAD TO PIVOT QUICKLY FROM PROVIDING IN-PERSON CLINICAL TRAINING BECAUSE OF THE MANY CHALLENGES THAT HOSPITAL FACED. AND WE START TO USE MORE SIMULATION ACTIVITIES IN THE IN PLACE OF THE IN-PERSON CLINICAL TRAINING.

MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT INCORPORATION OF THE SIMULATION ACTIVITY IS EASY.

THAT IS NOT THE TRUE.

FACULTY AND SIMULATION SPECIALISTS HAVE TO GO THROUGH A LOT OF TRAINING, A LOT OF TRAINING TO BE A SUCCESSFUL SIMULATION SPECIALIST. BUT SIMULATION IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE STUDENTS CAN PRACTICE SKILLS AND SKILLS IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT.

THAT'S THE KEY WORD.

STUDENTS CAN PRACTICE SKILLS IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT BEFORE ACTUALLY THEY GO TO THE CLINICAL HOSPITALS.

BUT WE DESPERATELY NEED OPPORTUNITY FOR TRAINING, AND THIS GRANT IS ABLE TO PROVIDE THE TRAINING FOR OUR FACULTY.

SO ARE YOU ADDING ALL THOSE FACULTY TOGETHER? IT'S NOT THE SAME FACULTY, RIGHT, THAT ARE DOING THIS.

YES, ALL DIFFERENT FACULTY WILL RECEIVE THE DIFFERENT TRAINING.

AND THEN I WANT TO BE RESPECTFUL OF EVERYBODY'S TIME.

SO BECAUSE I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I WILL GIVE SOME OF MY TIME.

I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL ASPECTS OF OUR FUTURE.

AND I GOT SOME COMMENTS ABOUT FACILITIES IN A MINUTE, SO I WANT TO GIVE AT LEAST 30 MINUTES TO MY FINANCE COMMITTEE.

WOW. IT'S TOO IMPORTANT.

TOO IMPORTANT. TOO IMPORTANT.

PLEASE. THANK YOU.

I'M GOING TO KEEP TRACK OF THAT.

OKAY. I'M GOING TO USE MY 30 MINUTES IN THIS ONE.

GO AHEAD. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

TRUSTEE. FLOYD. THANK YOU.

NEXT GRANT NURSING SHORTAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM.

NURSING SHORTAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM WAS FIRST AUTHORIZED BY THE 77TH TEXAS LEGISLATURE IN 2001.

SO THIS GRANT IS ACTUALLY AVAILABLE FOR OVER 20 YEARS, AND TEXAS LEGISLATURE APPROPRIATED ABOUT $9.4 MILLION THIS YEAR TO THE TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD FOR FISCAL YEAR 2023.

THIS YEAR, AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, DALLAS COLLEGE RECEIVED $424,000 FOR BECAUSE

[00:55:03]

WE INCREASED THE NUMBER OF GRADUATES BY 40 FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR NURSING TEAM TO MAKE THE EXTRA EFFORT TO INCREASE THE GRADUATION BY 40 STUDENT GRADUATES.

IN THE PAST, WE HAD THREE NURSING PROGRAM AND NOT ALL PROGRAM RECEIVED THIS GRANT.

UNFORTUNATELY, HOWEVER, SINCE THE MARCH, THE ALL NURSING STUDENT NURSING FACULTY CAN GET BENEFIT FROM THIS GRANT.

BUT BECAUSE WE ARE NOW ONE COLLEGE, THIS IS ONE OF THE CLEAR EXAMPLE OF THE HOW ONE COLLEGE MODEL HELPS ALL STUDENTS AND FACULTY MEMBERS.

THERE ARE MANY WAYS WE CAN SPEND THIS GRANT IN NEXT FOUR YEARS.

ONE OF THE MAIN WAY TO SPEND THIS GRANT IS TO PROVIDE FACULTY ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL TRAINING, AND ALSO THIS 1ST MAY PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SIMULATION EQUIPMENT.

WE WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE MORE SIMULATION EQUIPMENT AS NEEDED.

THIS ONE IS JUST A QUICK OVERVIEW OF THE THREE GRANTS THAT WE RECEIVED.

AND CURRENTLY SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES NURSING DEPARTMENT HAS ABOUT 2.5 MILLION ACTIVE GRANTS.

1.7 MILLION WAS FOR JUST FOR THIS YEAR.

AND THIS IS MY LAST SLIDE.

AND JUST I WANT YOU TO SHARE THAT THIS IS THE END ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE COLUMN.

IT'S THIS IS AN ENROLLMENT TO THE NURSING PROGRAM, PHYSIC ACADEMIC YEAR 2019 AND 2020.

WE HAD 528 NURSING STUDENTS ACADEMIC YEAR 2022, 2021.

WE HAD 573.

IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021 22 WE HAVE LESS STUDENTS 438 MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE PANDEMIC.

BUT THIS YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO INCREASE.

TWO FIVE 192 NURSING STUDENTS.

LICENSURE PASS RATE FOR THE LAST THREE YEARS IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2019 AND 2020.

93.3%. ACADEMIC YEAR.

2020 AND 2021.

85.3%. ACADEMIC YEAR.

20. 21.

2022. 85.6%.

YOU MAY ASK THE CHANGES IN THE LICENSURE PASS RATE.

AGAIN, THIS COULD BE ONE OF THE MAIN REASON COULD BE PANDEMIC.

AND WE ARE GOING TO MAKE EXTRA EFFORT TO SUPPORT STUDENT.

AND I DO KNOW THAT THE GRANTS THAT WE RECEIVED WILL HELP OUR STUDENT TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL.

BUT LAST, LAST COLUMN IS SOMETHING THAT I WANT.

I WANT TO SHARE IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021, 2022.

99.3% OF OUR GRADUATES GOT THE JOB WITHIN ONE YEAR.

THIS IS ANOTHER TRUE SUCCESS FOR.

BUT THIS IS IT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR TRUSTEE GARCIA.

HANG ON ONE SECOND. YES.

JUST NOT FEELING VERY PATIENT, SO.

YOU WERE IN LINE. THEN YOU.

AND THEN. SO PLEASE YOUR QUESTIONS BEFORE I WENT TO LEON, BECAUSE I GOT TO GO BACK AND ASK SOME QUESTIONS, BUT IT'S NOT A LOT OF THEM.

OKAY, SO NOW I'LL WAIT.

OKAY. I HAVE A CONCERN.

THE ONLY PLACE WE SAW REGISTERED NURSES WAS IN THIS END COLUMN WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT NURSING.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LEVEL OF NURSING WE'RE TEACHING.

THERE'S ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF NURSING LEVELS.

AND SO I WOULD JUST PROVIDING OFFICE NURSES OR WHAT KIND OF NURSING ARE WE GRADUATING? SO COULD YOU TELL ME IF THEY'RE NOT REGISTERED, WHAT ARE THEY AND WHAT PERCENTAGES OF THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF NURSING? SO ACTUALLY ALL THE AREAS THAT WE GRADUATED FROM THE ORANGE PROGRAM, THEY WILL BECOME ORANGE ONCE THEY PASS THE LICENSURE EXAM AND THEN THEY WILL CHOOSE WHICH SPECIALTY THEY MAY WANT TO PURSUE LIKE A MEDICAL SURGICAL NURSING, PEDIATRIC, ALBEIT THAT'S NOT WHAT I WAS ASKING.

I WAS ASKING THE THE LEVEL OF NURSING BECAUSE THERE'S A TWO YEAR CERTIFICATE FOR NURSING, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME QUALITY OF NURSING THAT A FOUR YEAR WOULD BE. SO CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT PERCENTAGE OF OUR STUDENTS ARE GOING ON TO GET AN AN AND WHAT PERCENTAGE OF OUR NURSING STUDENTS ARE STAYING AS AN ASSISTANT NURSE OR WHATEVER THEY CALL THEM NOW? THEY KEEP CHANGING THEIR NAMES.

COULD YOU TELL ME THAT? YES, WE HAVE A CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT.

[01:00:02]

WE HAVE VOCATIONAL NURSES.

THAT WAS A VOCATIONAL NURSES WHO CAN COMPLETE A PROGRAM IN ONE YEAR.

AND THEN WE HAVE AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM THAT COMPLETE TWO YEARS AND WE HAVE BACHELOR'S DEGREE.

IT'S A FOUR YEAR PROGRAM.

AND WHAT ARE THEY CALLED? JUST CERTIFICATED NURSES OR ACTUALLY TWO YEAR PROGRAM AND FOUR YEAR PROGRAM.

THEY WILL RECEIVE THE SAME LICENSE OR REGISTERED NURSING AND ONE YEAR PROGRAM, VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM.

THEY WILL BECOME LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSES.

AND WE DALLAS COLLEGE HAS BRICK PROGRAM FROM THE ARVN TO BECOME OUR OWN PROGRAM.

SO WE DO HAVE A BRIDGE PROGRAM FOR THAT.

OKAY. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME HOW MANY STUDENTS HAVE BEEN IN THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES? YES. VOCATIONAL NURSING PROGRAM.

WE HAVE SOME FLUCTUATION AND THIS YEAR WE HAVE ABOUT 17 STUDENTS.

ONE SEVEN, SEVEN, SEVEN.

YES. OKAY. BUT WE ARE PARTNERING WITH MANY HEALTH CARE INSTITUTIONS TO INCREASE THE ENROLLMENT SUCH AS VA MEDICAL CENTER.

WE ARE GOING TO PARTNER WITH THEM TO HAVE MORE VOCATIONAL NURSING STUDENTS TO THE PROGRAM.

YES, I CHEER YOU ON THOSE EFFORTS.

SO WHICH ONES ARE WHAT? WHAT NUMBER OF STUDENTS WE HAVE AS ASSOCIATE? THEY GET THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN THE TWO YEARS.

YES. DALLAS COLLEGE FOR 100% OF OUR NURSING STUDENTS ARE IN ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING PROGRAM.

AND AS WE YOU MIGHT YOU MIGHT KNOW WE ARE PROPOSING TO ESTABLISH THE R.N.

TO BSN PROGRAM.

AND I HOPE THAT THOSE GRADUATES FROM THE ASSOCIATE DEGREE WILL PURSUE THE FURTHER DEGREE IN THE FUTURE.

YOU GIVE ME SOME NUMBERS YOU WANT TO KNOW SO THE NUMBERS, WE CAN PROBABLY GET THAT FOR YOU RIGHT NOW TO GET THE TRUE NUMBERS, LIKE HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN EACH OF THOSE PROGRAMS. YES, WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET THAT INFORMATION FOR YOU AT A LATER POINT.

ARE YOU THINKING OF STATEWIDE OR JUST A FOUR YEAR.

NO, I'M NOT I'M NOT ON THE BOARD FOR THE STATE.

I'M ON THE BOARD FOR JUST THE NUMBERS.

I WANT TO KNOW HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE IN EACH PROGRAM.

YES. YEAH, WE'LL GET THE NUMBER.

OKAY. OKAY.

I'VE GOT TWO COMMENTS.

ONE, I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS PRESENTED TO US TODAY IS SOMETHING THAT FROM FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE IN THE FINANCE AND THE PLANNING STRATEGIC PLANNING, WHAT WAS SAID HERE TODAY IS SCREAMING TO US IN THE FACILITY VISION OF HOW WE'RE GOING TO ENVISION OUR FACILITIES TO ACCOMMODATE THIS.

THAT TO ME IS ONE OF THE MOST CRITICAL THINGS THAT THIS BOARD IS GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH.

AND I HAVE A.

I REALLY THINK THAT THAT WE'RE GOING TO AS AS WE'VE BEEN RECOGNIZED WITH THAT MILLION DOLLARS, I THINK THERE'S PROBABLY HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS THAT ARE OUT THERE IN US ADDRESSING THIS INDUSTRY THE WAY WE ARE.

I THINK THIS THIS THIS SMALL MILLION DOLLAR DEAL IS ONLY THE SEED OF WHAT WE CAN DO IF WE DEMONSTRATE IN OUR NEXT STAGES OF OUR FACILITY DEVELOPMENT.

YOU KNOW, I REALLY SEE AS WE TALK IN HERE SO OFTEN ABOUT THE DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH, OF EDUCATION IS SO IMPACTED BY WHERE PEOPLE LIVE AND HOW WHETHER THEY CAN EAT OR NOT.

YOU KNOW, WE DON'T REALLY STOP SOMETIMES AND THINK ABOUT WHAT KEEPS SOMEBODY FROM GRADUATING, BUT THESE ARE JUST EXAMPLES.

SO IF YOU COULD ENVISION IN YOUR MIND THE FACT THAT WHEN WE START LOOKING AT FACILITIES, IF YOU COULD ENVISION THE FACT THAT THESE SAME STUDENTS THAT WE JUST TALKED ABOUT, SO MANY OF THEM ARE SINGLE PARENTS, AS HE TALKED ABOUT, WHAT IF THEY HAD HOUSING ON THE TOP FIVE FLOORS OF A BUILDING? WHAT IF THE NEXT THREE FLOORS WAS CHILDCARE? WHAT IF THEN THE BOTTOM FLOORS WERE DEALING WITH CLASSROOMS? AND WHAT IF IT WAS IN THE VICINITY WHERE THEY WALK ACROSS AND TAKE THEIR CLINICAL TRAINING AT SOME OF THE FACILITIES? CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT THAT WOULD DO TO THAT INDUSTRY AND WHAT IT WOULD DO TO ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT WE'RE DEALING WITH IN GETTING GRADUATES? THAT'S THAT'S WHERE I JUST REALLY WANT US TO HAVE THOSE KIND OF VISIONS.

THAT'S WHAT MY MY DESIRE IS.

I WILL TELL YOU THAT THE TRIP THAT ABOUT SIX OF US WENT OUT TO SAN DIEGO THIS TWO WEEKS AGO FOR THE INNOVATION SUMMIT AS IT RELATED TO EDUCATION.

[01:05:01]

I WANT TO GIVE COMPLIMENTS TO TO TO THE STAFF THAT WAS THERE.

AND WE MET WITH SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT HAD EXACTLY WHAT DR.

YUMI ASKED ABOUT SIMULATION.

NOT ONLY DID WE MEET WITH THEM THIS FRIDAY, THIS FRIDAY OR TWO WEEKS LATER, PIPER AND HER STAFF AND THE ACADEMIC PEOPLE ARE GOING TO BE MEETING WITH THIS SIMULATION COMPANY THAT CAN LITERALLY LET THESE NURSES SEE EVERY ASPECT OF THEIR TRAINING THROUGH VIRTUAL REALITY.

THAT'S GOING TO BE FRIDAY.

THAT'S HOW QUICK THIS STUFF IS MOVING.

BUT THAT'S SO IMPORTANT.

AND I JUST COMPLIMENT THE STAFF ON THAT.

THE FACT THAT THERE'S EVEN A FURTHER ELEMENT OF IMMERSION IN VIRTUAL REALITY THAT ASU AND ALREADY A TRIP IS PLANNED AND WE WERE INVITED BY THE PRESIDENT OF ASU AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE COMPANY THAT HAS PUT TOGETHER A PARTNERSHIP TO DO TOTAL IMMERSION TRAINING.

THEY'VE ALREADY MOVED A LETTER GRADE IN BIOLOGY BY TRAINING, IN IMMERSION, BY LITERALLY THROUGH VISUAL GOING IN AND LIVING IN THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE BIOLOGY GERM.

I MEAN, IT'S UNBELIEVABLE.

BUT THAT TRIP IS ALREADY SCHEDULED FOR JUNE.

THAT THAT'S WHY I'M SAYING, GUYS, OUR STAFF AND WHAT THEY PRESENTED HERE TWICE TO ME IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE THEY CAN'T DO WHAT THEY HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO IF WE DON'T REALLY GET BRIGHT WITH OUR FACILITIES.

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW CRITICAL THAT IS GOING TO BE IN THE NEXT SIX MONTHS OF OUR LIVES.

IT'S JUST GOING TO BE UNBELIEVABLE.

AND WHAT THEY DID TODAY IS JUST A SMALL SAMPLE.

I REALLY BELIEVE THAT DALLAS COLLEGE IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS WILL BE THE PREMIER SCHOOL FOR DEVELOPING WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, PERIOD.

TRUSTEE. DALLAS. SO I'VE GOT QUESTIONS ON THIS PRESENTATION AND THEN I'M GOING TO MOVE BACK TO AN EARLIER PRESENTATION THAT WE HEARD ABOUT TODAY.

SO WHAT IS OUR CAPACITY CURRENTLY FOR THE NUMBER OF NURSING STUDENTS THAT WE CAN ENROLL? YES, CURRENTLY WE HAVE A 592 NURSING PROGRAM STUDENTS, BUT IS THAT THE MAXIMUM WE CAN ENROLL? WE MAY BE ABLE TO INCREASE A LITTLE BIT MORE.

THE CHALLENGE WE HAVE IS THE LACK OF NURSING FACULTY, AND THAT'S THE NURSING FACULTY SHORTAGE AND NURSING ACTUAL ORANGE SHORTAGE HAS BEEN A SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGE.

HOWEVER, THE ACADEMICS AND DALLAS COLLEGE OPERATIONS HAVE BEEN WORKING COLLABORATIVELY, COLLABORATIVELY TO FIND A SOLUTION AND TO HIRE A NEW NURSING FACULTY MEMBER SO THAT WE ARE WORKING DILIGENTLY TO FIND THE NURSING FACULTY.

WELL, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH THESE MAJOR MEDICAL GROUPS IN DALLAS, THE PRESBYTERIAN SYSTEM, THE METHODIST SYSTEM, THE UT SOUTHWESTERN, THAT THEY COULD LEND FACULTY TO TEACH OUR STUDENTS SO THAT WE CAN INCREASE THE CAPACITY AND THE NUMBER OF NURSES THAT WE'RE GRADUATING PER YEAR.

WHAT SAY YOU? THEY THEY THEY ARE AVAILABLE IF YOU'RE WILLING TO PAY THEM A NURSE THAT WE WOULD WANT TO HIRE AS A TEACHER AND WORK SATURDAY AND SUNDAY AND MAKE A FULL WEEK SALARY.

WELL AND IN THAT YOU SAID A MILLION IS NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT'S OUT THERE.

WELL, THEN WE TAP INTO THOSE FOUNDATIONS OF THOSE ORGANIZATIONS.

ABSOLUTELY. AND THERE'S A SOLUTION.

SO I'LL SAY WHEN WE DO OUR JUNE PLANNING SESSION, WE TALK ABOUT BUDGET AND OTHER THINGS.

WE'RE GOING TO BE DOING SOME PRESENTATIONS OF EACH OF THE SCHOOLS OF IN DEPTH.

AND SO WE'LL BE HAVING CONVERSATIONS AROUND FACILITIES, CERTAINLY AROUND HOW WE ATTRACT NEW FACULTY, NEW STAFF IN THOSE AREAS AND THEN WHERE WE CAN FIND PARTNERSHIPS TO GET A LITTLE CREATIVE.

CERTAINLY WE'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS WITH SOME OF THE HOSPITAL SYSTEMS ABOUT REALLY RETHINKING AND REIMAGINING HOW WE SUPPORT THEIR WORKFORCE THAT WE'RE TRYING TO BUILD.

GOOD. SO IF YOU COULD GO TO SLIDE 17, WHOEVER'S CONTROLLING THE SLIDE, AND I BRING THIS UP SIMPLY BECAUSE AS AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION, I WOULDN'T WANT TO SEE ON OUR PUBLIC SITE SOMETHING WITH ERRORS IN IT, BECAUSE THEN THAT SPEAKS TO US AS AN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION.

SO TO INCREASE THE VERY FIRST BULLET TO INCREASE ENROLLMENT THAT COMMAS IN THE WRONG PLACE.

SO HOPEFULLY IF THIS IS OUT THERE ON OUR WEBSITE, THAT CORRECTION WILL BE MADE.

AND THEN ALSO ON SLIDE 17, DR.

UMEH, YOU SPOKE ABOUT WE COVERED TUITION FOR THESE STUDENTS.

[01:10:02]

SO DO WE COVER ASSUMING THEY'RE NOT ON FAFSA OR OR DALLAS COLLEGE PROMISE, WHAT AMOUNT DO WE HAVE FOR TUITION TO COVER? WHAT NUMBER OF STUDENTS? IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER TO THAT RIGHT NOW, WE CAN GET IT LATER.

WE FOR THIS ACADEMIC YEAR, WE HAVE OVER $40,000 TO COVER THE TUITION FOR THE COHORT STUDENTS, AND WE WILL HAVE ABOUT 40,000, $40,000 EACH YEAR FOR THAT TUITION, EMERGENCY FUNDING AS WELL.

WE HAVE ABOUT $40,000 TO SPEND FOR EACH YEAR FOR THOSE STUDENTS.

AND THEN THIS IS A GENERAL QUESTION FOR DALLAS COLLEGE FOR THOSE STUDENTS THAT HAVE A CHALLENGE IN TERMS OF LIKE THE STUDENT THAT YOU TALKED ABOUT WITH THE VEHICLE, DO WE HAVE A PARTNERSHIP WITH ON THE ROAD LENDING THERE, A NONPROFIT THAT HELP PEOPLE IN CERTAIN INCOME CATEGORIES, THE LOWER TO MODERATE INCOME WHEN THEY HAVE AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR TO GET A GOOD USED CAR AND PROVIDE THE LOAN SO THAT THEN THEY HAVE A LOW INTEREST RATE LOAN.

WE PRE-PANDEMIC WE HAD A PARTNERSHIP AND RIGHT OUT OF DR.

MAY'S OFFICE AND THEN ALSO GLORIA'S SHOP WAS WORKING WITH THEM AND WE ARE IN DISCUSSIONS ON REVAMPING.

AND BECAUSE THEY HAD TO DO SOME REVAMPING AFTER THE PANDEMIC AS WELL TO REDEFINE WHAT THAT PARTNERSHIP WOULD LOOK LIKE FOR US.

BUT YES, WE HAVE ONE PREVIOUSLY AND WE'RE LOOKING TO REVISIT THAT.

OKAY, GREAT. THEN GOING TO THE EARLIER SLIDE ON GRANT GRANT ACCOUNTABILITY FRAMEWORK, CAN YOU SHARE THAT? OH, YES. I WANT TO SEE HOW MUCH APPLICATION IT HAS TO NONPROFITS THAT GET GRANTS IN GENERAL, BECAUSE THAT MIGHT BE A RESOURCE THAT WE PROVIDE FOR THOSE NONPROFITS THAT ARE ON GRANT FUNDS AND TO HELP THEM ALSO IN TERMS OF COMPLIANCE, ETCETERA.

AND THEN LET ME SEE SLIDE 11 THAT TALKS ABOUT THE GRANTS SLIDE NUMBER 11.

DASHBOARD. OKAY.

SO WHEN YOU WERE SHOWING HOW MUCH EACH OF THE OPERATIONAL AREAS GET IN TERMS OF GRANT FUNDING, WHY IS STUDENT SUCCESS, COMPARATIVELY SPEAKING, LOWER TO THE OTHERS, TO THE OTHER OPERATIONAL AREAS? I WOULD THINK THERE'S A LOT OF GRANT FUNDING IN THE STUDENT SUCCESS AREA.

SO IT'S LOWER BECAUSE MOST OF THE GRANTS WHICH WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT WHEN DR.

RODRIGUEZ PRESENTS ON THAT MOST GRANTS HAVE SPECIALIZATIONS IN THEM.

SO AS FAR AS LIKE YOU'LL SEE DR.

WILKINS SIDE, WHICH IS MAINLY WORKFORCE, A LOT OF THE GRANTS THAT WE WORK WITH AND A LOT OF THE GRANTORS LIKE TO GIVE MONEY TOWARDS WORKFORCE PROGRAMS. SO THEY LIKE TO BE VERY SPECIFIC IN THEIR PROGRAMS AND WHAT THEY DO, WHICH MEANS THE GRANTS DO FALL UNDER WORKFORCE.

HOWEVER, THEY DO HELP A LOT WITH THE STUDENT SUCCESS.

IT'S JUST THAT MOST OF THEM ARE SUPPORTING VARIOUS TYPES OF PROGRAMS THAT OVERHEAD IS DEALING WITH WORKFORCE PROGRAMS. YEAH, IT'S A TREND OVER THE YEARS, AND NOW COMMUNITY COLLEGES KIND OF ARE IN A POCKET OF WHAT WE CALL 3.0, WHERE THERE'S THE UNDERSTANDING THAT WORKFORCE IS THE ULTIMATE GOAL TO COME THROUGH OUR DOORS.

AND SO YOU WILL FIND THAT A LOT OF THE CATEGORIZATION OF THE GRANTS IS WORKFORCE, BUT IT ACTUALLY BRIDGES ACROSS ALL OF THE AREAS.

SO WE'LL FIND THAT EVEN IN GLORIA WHO AREA WHO IS UNDER WORKFORCE, THERE'S A LOT OF STUDENT SERVICES AND SUPPORT IN WHICH WE PARTNER WITH DR.

JOSEPH SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND IT'S MAYBE IN THE 90S OR THE EARLY 2000S, THE FOCUS WAS ABOUT ACCESS.

SO EVERYTHING DOLLARS WERE FUNDING FUNNELING THROUGH STUDENT SUCCESS.

SO IT'S JUST A TREND.

AND SO THEY KIND OF GET CATEGORIZED INTERNALLY THIS WAY, BUT THEY ACTUALLY DO AFFECT ALL THE OTHER ASPECTS OF THE COLLEGE.

SO WHEN WE GET THIS TYPE OF PRESENTATION, AGAIN, IS IT POSSIBLE TO SHOW THAT TIE? HOW MUCH OF THESE DOLLARS ARE APPLIED TO STUDENT SUCCESS? THAT WOULD BE GOOD. YES, WE CAN DO THAT.

AND IF WE CAN GET THAT AFTER THE FACT, THAT WOULD BE GOOD, TOO.

OKAY, MS..

COACH, I HAVE ONE.

I HAVE ONE MORE. LET ME GO.

HEY, I'M JOKING.

OH, OF COURSE.

WHERE ARE YOU ALL LOCATED? ALL OVER THE ENTIRE WE ARE WE ARE LOCATED PRETTY MUCH AT EVERY CAMPUS AND SOME OF THE SATELLITE OR THE THE COMMUNITY LOCATIONS AS WELL.

WE HAVE PEOPLE AT EASTFIELD, NORTHLAKE.

I MEAN, LITERALLY, WE'RE AT EVERY LOCATION.

WE TRIED TO MAKE OURSELVES AVAILABLE TO ALL OF OUR COLLEAGUES WHEREVER WE ARE IN THE COUNTY.

SO IT'S ONLY THE PROCESSES THAT HAVE BEEN CENTRALIZED.

[01:15:02]

YES. THE NOT THE ACTUAL PHYSICAL LOCATION.

CORRECT. OF THE EMPLOYEES.

OKAY. NEXT QUESTION.

HOW DO YOU ASSIGN MANAGERS TO GRANT PROGRAMS? HOW ARE THEY MARRIED? THE THE GRANT MANAGERS GENERALLY IN THAT PRE AWARD PROCESS? WHEN WE DO THE ANALYSIS OF WHO ARE OUR EXPERTISE, WHERE ARE OUR EXPERTISE IN-HOUSE, GENERALLY, THAT'S HOW WE DETERMINE WHO IS GOING TO BEST HELP US LEAD AND BE SUCCESSFUL IN A PROJECT.

SO WHEN WE GET ALL THE COLLECTIVE STAKEHOLDERS TOGETHER AND WE HAVE THAT DISCUSSION IN OUR ANALYSIS, THEN WE SHARE IT UP WITH OUR LEADERSHIP.

AND THEN THEY CONFIRM IF THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE CAPACITY AND THE EXPERTISE TO COMMIT TO THE WORK.

AND THAT'S HOW WE'RE SO SUCCESSFUL BECAUSE THEY'RE BUYING IN.

THEY BRING THAT EXPERTISE AND THEY CAN ACTUALLY GUIDE THE COLLEGE IN MAKING SURE THAT WE FULFILL THOSE OBLIGATIONS.

OKAY. ON THE.

THE DASHBOARD.

IS THAT INFORMATION ONLY? THAT DASHBOARD ONLY AVAILABLE INTERNALLY? WHAT DO YOU DO FOR THE PUBLIC IN TERMS OF PROVIDING THAT INFORMATION? WHERE DO WE SIT RIGHT NOW? THIS IS PHASE ONE AND IT IS ONLY INTERNALLY BECAUSE IT IS HOUSED ON OUR SHAREPOINT SITE.

AND AS WE LEARN ABOUT MORE AND BUILD OUR CAPACITY, WE KIND OF HAD TO GET WORKDAY IN PLACE TO KIND OF EXPLORE WHAT'S OUR NEXT STEP IN CAPACITY IN BEING ABLE TO SHARE SOME OF THE TRANSPARENCY BEYOND THESE WALLS.

AND WE JUST HAVEN'T GOTTEN IT YET.

OKAY. BECAUSE IT OCCURS TO ME THAT IF YOU'RE LOOKING AT A GRANT, WHOEVER IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT THIS DASHBOARD WOULD BE HELPFUL AND HELP THEM CLARIFY, YOU KNOW, AND VERIFY INFORMATION.

SO I WAS WONDERING, SO WILL IT BE AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO SERVE THEM? IS IT AVAILABLE NOW? JUST INFORMATION? IT'S NOT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO LOG IN TO OUR SHAREPOINT SITE, BUT EVERYONE IN THIS ROOM, INCLUDING YOURSELVES, HAVE ACCESS.

BUT IT IS NOT YET AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC YET, ESPECIALLY BECAUSE IT WAS IN DEVELOPMENT PHASE.

WE DIDN'T WANT TO KIND OF SHARE OUR BUMPY ROAD YET.

WELL, NO, WHAT I WAS I MEANT LET ME CLARIFY THAT WAS IS THIS INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC, EVEN THOUGH IT MAY NOT BE IN THIS FORM THE DATA? YES. IF SOMEONE WERE TO REQUEST IT, WOULD WE BE ABLE TO SHARE INFORMATION OF THE SUCCESS OF EACH? WELL, IT'S NOT PUBLICLY AVAILABLE IN ANY FORM TO THE PUBLIC.

NOT NOT AT THIS POINT.

NOW, I WAS.

YOU KNOW, NEWS JACKET.

THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT PEOPLE LEAVING THE NURSING PROFESSION AND IT'S GOING TO CREATE A SHORTAGE.

ARE YOU ALL.

ARE THERE ANY GRANTS AVAILABLE TO ADDRESS THAT ISSUE? CURRENTLY, ARE YOU LOOKING AT PERHAPS LOOKING FOR A GRANT THAT WOULD HELP IN THAT IN TERMS OF RETENTION, PROVIDING SERVICES TO THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE DRIVING PEOPLE AWAY FROM THE PROFESSION AND SO FORTH.

BUT I WAS WONDERING ABOUT A GRANT TO SUPPORT RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION IN THIS AREA.

SO ONE OF THE SPENDING CRITERIA FOR THE NURSING SHORTAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM IS TO SUPPORT THE NURSING FACULTY AND NURSING STUDENTS RETENTION AND RECRUITMENT AS WELL, SO THAT WE WILL USE THAT FUNDING TO SUPPORT THOSE FACULTY MEMBER STUDENTS AND IN ADDITION PRE-AWARD TEAM AND I'M SURE AND ACADEMICS AND SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR OPPORTUNITY TO FIND NEW GRANTS TO PROPOSE IN THE FUTURE.

HOW ARE.

HOW MUCH OF IN TERMS OF GRANTS? I'M SURE IT'S SOME INDUSTRY PUBLICATION THAT TELLS YOU GRANTS THAT ARE AVAILABLE AND YOU ALL REVIEW THOSE.

BUT DO YOU EVER FREELANCE? I GUESS AS WAY I WANT TO PUT IT.

GRANT YOU JUST SOMEBODY HAS A GREAT IDEA AND YOU DECIDE, WELL, LET'S SEE IF WE CAN GET THIS FUNDED.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU DO THAT? OUR NEW STRUCTURE ALLOWS FOR THAT, AND THAT'S ONE OF THE TOP GOALS OF OURS, IS TO BE MORE PROACTIVE INSTEAD OF REACTIONARY TO WHAT'S AVAILABLE.

[01:20:04]

BUT AGAIN, TO IDENTIFY WHERE THE NEED IS AND THEN GO SEEK OUT THOSE FUNDS FROM FUNDING AGENCIES OR JUST BE PREPARED TO KIND OF BE ON THE ROAD AND BEGAN TO KIND OF PROPOSE TO PEOPLE.

THIS IS SOME OF THE SUPPORT THAT DALLAS COLLEGE STUDENTS COULD USE, AND THAT IS WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW WITH BEING ABLE TO TO RENDER SOME OF THAT SUPPORT.

OKAY. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MR. CHAIR. THANK YOU.

SO WE'RE THROUGH WITH THE PRESENTATION ON THIS PART? NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. WE STILL.

WE STILL. I HAVE SOME COMMENTS AFTER WE'RE THROUGH WITH THE AGENDA FOR TODAY, BUT.

ALL RIGHT, SO WE HAVE ANOTHER PRESENTATION AFTER THIS ONE.

THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME.

DR. MARCUS. MY APOLOGIES.

NO. OH, RIGHT.

GOOD MORNING, CHAIR.

MONICA. TRUSTEE.

BRAVO. SHE LEFT FOR MEMBERS.

DR. LONDON. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US HERE TODAY.

IT LOOKS LIKE YOU ALREADY ASKED ALL YOUR QUESTIONS, SO WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A REALLY EASY PRESENTATION.

THAT'S GOOD. THE STRATEGY WORKED.

SO WE HAVE HEARD VERY SUCCESSFUL STORIES FROM DR.

UMEH AND THE WORK WE DO AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

AND I'M GOING TO SECOND WHAT HE SAID, THAT THE WORK WE DO IS NOT DONE JUST BY ONE OFFICE OR ONE DEPARTMENT.

IT'S A COLLECTIVE EFFORT OF MANY PEOPLE.

AND SO I WANT TO THANK AND RECOGNIZE ALL OF THEM, MANY OF THEM HERE IN THE ROOM.

THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WE TRY TO ALWAYS PUSH THE BOUNDARY OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND IMPROVED SOLUTIONS.

THE WORK I DO AT DALLAS COLLEGE IS UNDER THE OFFICE OF ADVANCEMENT AND INTEGRATION, IS TO DEVELOP STRATEGIES FOR INSTITUTIONALIZATION OR SUSTAINABILITY. I'M LOCATED AT THE PLEASANT GROVE AND I WORKED AT DALLAS COLLEGE FOR ALMOST 19 YEARS.

WHEN I STARTED AS A FACULTY MEMBER TEACHING MATHEMATICS.

DON'T WORRY, I WON'T HAVE A QUIZ FOR YOU.

ONE OF THE THINGS MY OFFICE DOES IS TO TRACK SEVERAL ASPECTS THAT COULD REFLECT THE IMPACT OF OUR GRANT SPONSORED PROGRAMS. SO WHAT I WANT TO SHOW YOU ON THE SCREEN RIGHT NOW IS TO LOOK AT THE TOP LARGEST INDUSTRIES IN DALLAS COUNTY THAT ALIGN WITH AT LEAST ONE OF OUR SPONSORED PROGRAMS. SO WE HAVE THE PROFESSIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNICAL SERVICES.

AND I'M NOT GOING TO READ ALL OF THEM IN THE INTEREST OF TIME.

BUT YOU CAN SEE THAT 70% OF THOSE TOP INDUSTRIES ALIGN WITH AT LEAST ONE OF OUR GRANTS.

THE INDUSTRIES WITH AN ASTERISK REPRESENT INDUSTRIES WITH A PROJECTED GROWTH WITH THE LARGEST PROJECTED GROWTH IN THE NEXT TEN YEARS.

AND DR. LUNA WAS TALKING ABOUT NURSING PROGRAMS THAT WILL FALL UNDER HEALTH CARE AND SOCIAL ASSISTANCE, WHICH I THINK I BELIEVE WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE TO THE LABOR MARKET NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITY.

ANOTHER ASPECT OF WHAT WE DO IN OUR OFFICE TO DEMONSTRATE THE IMPACT OF OUR GRANTS IS TO CALCULATE OR ESTIMATE THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT OF OUR SPONSORED PROGRAMS. AND I KNOW THIS HAS BEEN A QUESTION IN THE MINDS OF MANY PEOPLE.

AND SO WE'RE TRYING TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS TO DEMONSTRATE OR TO SHOW THAT IMPACT THROUGH ESTIMATING THAT RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

NOW RETURN ON INVESTMENT, AS WE KNOW, IS THE RATIO.

OF THAT ESTIMATES THE COST OF A PROJECTED PROFIT.

TO THE COST OF SORRY THE THE PROFIT TO COST RATIO.

NOW THE VALUE OF BIERI.

MONICA DEMONSTRATES TO THE COMMUNITY THAT WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

IT MONETIZES THE BENEFITS FOR FUNDERS DOLLAR.

AND IT ALSO HELPS ASSESS PROGRAM PERFORMANCE.

I'M GOING TO GO A LITTLE BIT QUICKER HERE.

THERE ARE SEVERAL METHODS FOR CALCULATING RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

FOR THE MOST POPULAR METHODS ARE THE NET INCOME APPROACH, THE CAPITAL GAIN, THE ANNUALIZED ROI.

AND WE HAVE ANY ACCOUNTANTS IN THE ROOM.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT? THERE IS ONE THAT IS DETERMINED BY THE BROADER IMPACT TO THE COMMUNITY, AND THAT IS CALLED THE SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

[01:25:02]

NOW WHEN WE LOOK AT DALLAS COLLEGE AND ITS STRATEGIC PLAN, WE USE IT AS A FRAMEWORK TO CALCULATE THAT ROI.

WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT DALLAS COLLEGE STRATEGIC PLAN, I'M TALKING ABOUT THE MISSION OF IMPROVING LIVES AND COMMUNITIES.

THE RECENTLY ADOPTED VALUES AND OUR SEVEN STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.

WHEN WE TAKE THAT AND USE IT AS A FRAMEWORK, THE METHOD THAT.

APPROACHES OR THE BEST.

HELPS US ESTIMATE OUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT IS A SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT PUTS A VALUE ON THE AMOUNT OF CHANGE THAT TAKES PLACE AS A RESULT OF A SPONSORED PROGRAM.

DALLAS COLLEGE CREATES VALUE THAT IS SHOWN IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUR GRADUATES AND GETTING BETTER JOBS.

BUT ALSO SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT IS A COLLECTION OF TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE VALUE.

AN EXAMPLE OF TANGIBLE VALUE WILL BE THE NUMBER OF GRADUATES WE PRODUCE AND RETURN.

AN INTANGIBLE VALUE THAT WE RARELY SEE IS GOING TO BE A REFLECTION ON THE ECONOMIC MOBILITY OF OUR CITIZENS, THEIR JOBS.

AND GO BACK.

THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION DESCRIBES SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT AS A MEASURE THAT COMMUNICATES THE VALUE OF OUTCOMES ACHIEVED BY PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE SOCIAL HEALTH, EDUCATION SERVICES.

AND IT IS A POWERFUL TOOL TO MEASURE THE IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY.

AND SO WITH THAT IN MIND, THE FORMULA WE USE TO CALCULATE THE SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT OF OUR SPONSORED PROGRAMS IS RIGHT HERE.

AND OBVIOUSLY THIS IS NOT THE MATHEMATICAL FORMULA, BUT WHAT I'M TRYING TO SHOW HERE IS THAT WE CONSIDER THE VALUE OF THE IMPACT THAT'S GOING TO BE THE VALUE OF THE COMMUNITY.

ENVIRONMENT AND THE ECONOMY, AND THEN WE SUBTRACT THE COST OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM.

WHICH IS GOING TO BE A COLLECTION OF THE GRANT FUNDS, PLUS THE INDIRECT VALUE TO DALLAS COLLEGE.

WHICH AT THE MOMENT IS ESTIMATED TO BE 52% OF THE GRANT VALUE.

NOW WE TAKE ALL OF THAT AND WE DIVIDE IT BY THE COST OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM, AND THAT GIVES US THE RATIO THAT WE CALL AS ROI OR SOCIAL RETURN ON INVESTMENT.

TO SHOW YOU AN EXAMPLE OF THIS, I'M GOING TO LOOK AT TWO PROGRAMS. AND ONE OF THEM IS A HILL COLLEGE CAMPUS.

I'M SORRY, THREE OF STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES.

THIS IS ONE OF THE GRANTS THAT FOCUSES ON IMPROVING COMPLETION AND INCREASE AND INCREASE GRADUATION RATES OF THE STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THE TRIO PROGRAM.

SO IF YOU LOOK HERE ON THE TABLE IN THE YEAR 2020, 2021, THE TRIO PROGRAM SERVED 224 STUDENTS, AND OF THOSE 24 224 STUDENTS, 121 STUDENTS GRADUATED.

NOW, TO FIND A NUMERICAL VALUE OR TO MONETIZE THIS VALUE OF IMPACT, WE USE A FINANCIAL PROXY THAT WE OBTAIN FROM THE COORDINATING BOARD THAT CROSS REFERENCED WITH SARA AND THE LABOR MARKET INTELLIGENCE CENTER TO USE THE $40,076. WHICH REPRESENTS THE MEDIAN SALARY FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE GRADUATES IN TEXAS.

IT IS HARD TO REALLY ESTIMATE HOW MUCH MONEY EACH STUDENT MAKES, BUT BY USING THIS PROXY.

THIS FINANCIAL PROXY, WE CAN USE IT IN OUR FORMULA.

NOW, THE COST OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM FOR ONE YEAR WAS 500,048.

$548,133. NOW, THAT IS A COMBINATION OF THE TRIO ANNUAL BUDGET, PLUS THE INDIRECT COSTS OF DALLAS COLLEGE, WHICH AGAIN IS 52% OF THE VALUE OF THE GRANT.

WHEN YOU TAKE THOSE NUMBERS AND PUT THEM INTO THE FORMULA, YOU TAKE THE 121 STUDENTS, MULTIPLY IT BY THE FINANCIAL PROXY, SUBTRACT THAT THE COST OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM AND THEN DIVIDE IT BY THE COST OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM AND YOU GET $7.84, WHICH MEANS THAT FOR EVERY DOLLAR WE INVEST IN OUR TRIO PROGRAM, WE INJECT $7.84 THAT WE PUT BACK $7.85 OF SOCIAL VALUE, WHICH THAT MEANS SOCIAL IMPACT, ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OR ECONOMIC IMPACT.

THIS IS ONE WAY TO ESTIMATE THAT IF YOU TAKE THAT VALUE AND MULTIPLY IT BY THE COST OF RUNNING THE PROGRAM, THAT GIVES US A TOTAL OF

[01:30:02]

$4,297,362 OF IMPACT IN OUR COMMUNITY.

NOW, YOU MIGHT ASK, WHERE IS THAT MONEY? HOW CAN I SEE IT? WELL, THIS IS JUST AN INDICATOR OF THE VALUE WE'RE PUTTING INTO COMMUNITY FOR THOSE STUDENTS WHO COME THROUGH THE TRIO PROGRAM.

NOW, I MENTIONED THAT WE'RE USING A FINANCIAL PROXY, AND THAT'S GOING TO BE THE $40,076.

AND IT'S A DIFFICULT INDICATOR TO OBTAIN UNLESS WE'RE TALKING MORE ABOUT A MORE SPECIFIC FIRM, WHICH IN THIS CASE, ON MY EXAMPLE, I'M GOING TO USE THE NURSING SHORTAGE REDUCTION PROGRAM.

BUT DR. UMCC REFERENCED EARLIER.

IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021, 2022, WE SERVE 438 STUDENTS THROUGH THIS GRANT.

OUT OF THOSE 438 STUDENTS, 375 STUDENTS GRADUATED AND RECEIVED THE LICENSES.

NOW, THAT ALLOWS THEM TO FIND JOBS.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT KAKUMA SHARED IS THAT 92.90 9.3% OF THOSE STUDENTS GOT A JOB WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR.

THAT REPRESENTS 372 STUDENTS WHO WERE EMPLOYED WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF GRADUATION.

NOW BY USING A FINANCIAL PROXY OF $69,236.

WE CAN USE THAT AS THE AVERAGE SALARY IN TEXAS.

AND AGAIN, THIS NUMBER COMES FROM THE TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD AND CROSS-REFERENCED WITH OUR STATISTICS IN OUR OFFICE AND THE LABOR MARKET INTELLIGENCE CENTER.

THE QUESTION. MR. CHAIR, CAN I ASK A QUESTION ON THIS, PLEASE? OKAY. DOESN'T THAT OVERSTATE THE ROI, THOUGH? I MEAN, BY USING THE TOTAL AVERAGE SALARY VALUE? I MEAN, REALLY, THE, THE, THE VALUE OF THE TRIO IS THE MARGINAL SALARY VALUE THAT THEY WOULD EARN AS A RESULT OF GETTING THIS DEGREE.

AND WE'RE CALCULATING THE TOTAL SALARY.

RIGHT. AND I CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION.

NO. AND ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING TO MENTION THAT IN ORDER TO EVEN GET CLOSER TO A MORE ACCURATE ESTIMATE, WE HAVE TO BE MORE INTENTIONAL ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR VALUE, WHICH IS THE SALARY.

HOWEVER, RIGHT NOW AT THE MOMENT, SINCE WE ARE STARTING THIS PROCESS, WE'RE USING DATA THAT'S AVAILABLE INSTEAD OF US TRACKING MOST OF THOSE STUDENT SALARIES, WHICH IS A VERY DIFFICULT EXERCISE TO COMPLETE.

YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS WE THINK ABOUT THIS EVERY TIME WE SEE THE VISITORS BUREAU SAY WE BROUGHT MARY KAY CONVENTION TO TOWN AND THIS IS HOW MUCH MONEY THE IMPACT THAT IT HAD.

THOSE INDUSTRIES USE THIS ALL THE TIME TO TALK ABOUT THAT.

WHAT I DO KNOW FROM PAST EXPERIENCE WITH HEALTH CARE, 80 OVER 80% OF THE GRADUATES OF UT SOUTHWESTERN PRACTICE LOCALLY. SO IT IS A WHOLE SALARY THAT DIDN'T GO TO ATLANTA, GEORGIA.

AND IN THIS CASE, IT'S PROBABLY GREATER THAN THE DELTA OF THE OF THE INCREASE.

BUT WHAT NUMBER IT IS, I DON'T KNOW.

BUT TO ME AND I TALKED TO BRAD ABOUT WHEN HE WAS IN THE MARKETING BUSINESS ABOUT HOW OUR STORY NEEDS TO BE DIFFERENT, ABOUT HOW WE TALK ABOUT WE NEED TO BE MORE BRAGGADOCIOUS, WE NEED TO BE WE NEED TO BE MORE OF THIS TYPE STUFF IN THE PUBLIC EYE ABOUT HOW HOW ACCURATE IT LET THEM CHALLENGE IT IF IT'S NOT QUITE AS ACCURATE.

BUT I THINK IT'S BETTER TO GO AHEAD AND MAKE THESE THESE STATEMENTS BECAUSE THESE KIND OF STATEMENTS WILL GET PEOPLE'S ATTENTION AND MAKE A THINK A DIFFERENT ABOUT THE INSTITUTION.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU MAKING THESE CALCULATIONS, FOLKS.

I TOTALLY AGREE THAT WE'RE WE'RE SPENDING YOUR TIME AS PEOPLE DOWN THE ROAD TIME.

SO LET'S KEEP IT TO.

OKAY. THAT'S THE REASON I WAS ASKING YOU ABOUT THE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF NURSING, BECAUSE I'M SORRY, VOCATIONAL NURSES DO NOT MAKE 70,000 ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSES DO NOT MAKE 70,000.

SO I REALLY I LOVE THIS CONCEPT, BUT IT'S GOT TO BE CORRECT OR IT WILL NOT SERVE US.

NO, I AGREE WITH YOU.

AND YOU KNOW, BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE THE TIME TO TRACK EVERYTHING.

IN FACT, OF COURSE, NOT.

ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS IS TO GET EVEN MORE ACCURATE ESTIMATE.

WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THOSE LEVELS OF NURSING VERSUS STUDENTS.

GO AND FIND OUT IF THEY ARE IN AN ENTRY LEVEL OR A REGISTERED NURSE LEVEL, AND THEN TAKE THOSE SALARIES.

ESTIMATES TO EVEN APPROXIMATE HAVE A BETTER APPROXIMATION THAN THE 69,000 MY DAUGHTER IS AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE ARE IN AND SHE MAKES WELL OVER 70,000.

[01:35:03]

YEAH I THINK THAT'S RIGHT.

SO WHAT WE KNOW IS WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT IF WE USE THIS VALUE ACROSS THE PROGRAMS, THEN WE ARE PROVIDING INFORMATION THAT IS VALID AND ACCEPTABLE.

NOW, IF WE START CHANGING THAT 69 FOR SOME PROGRAMS AND THEN FOR OTHERS, THEN NOW WE DON'T HAVE A VALUABLE INFORMATION TO REPORT TO THE PUBLIC.

SO COLLECTIVELY, WHEN YOU TAKE THAT ROI AS ROI, MULTIPLY IT TIMES THE COST OF RUNNING THIS NURSING PROGRAM.

WE GET OVER 25 MILLION OF SOCIAL IMPACT THAT REFLECTS IN OUR COMMUNITY, THAT REFLECTS ON THE ECONOMY, CREATES ECONOMIC MOBILITY FOR OUR STUDENTS, AND ULTIMATELY HELPS US MEET OUR MISSION OF IMPROVING LIVES AND COMMUNITIES.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH CLIFF THAT WE NEED TO PUBLICIZE THIS A LOT, ESPECIALLY THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DON'T GO OUT THERE WITH NUMBERS THAT AREN'T CORRECT AND THEN WE HAVE EGG ON OUR FACE.

THAT'S ALL CORRECT.

AND THAT IS MY RESPONSE. I BELIEVE THAT WHATEVER WE PUT OUT THERE HAS BEEN VETTED AND IS RELIABLE.

YOU ARE NOT THE CHANCELLOR.

WE DON'T WANT YOU TO GO TO JAIL IF HE GETS FIRED, NOT THE CHANCELLOR.

SO TO END OUR PRESENTATION, WE JUST.

WANT YOU ALL TO SEE THAT.

WE'VE TALKED ABOUT A LOT OF FUNDS TODAY.

AND SO AS YOU CAN SEE, WE'RE FILLING UP THE GLASS AND WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO FILL UP THE GLASS.

BUT WE REALLY WANT YOU ALL TO SEE THE INTANGIBLE IMPACT OF WHAT THESE GRANTS REALLY DO FOR OUR STUDENTS THAT DON'T HAVE A VALUE ON THEM.

BUT IF YOU LOOK AT IT, WE REALLY HELP STUDENTS NOT ONLY AS FAR AS FUNDING GO, BUT WE THESE GRANTS HELP TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES.

THEIR ENRICHMENT.

THEY HAVE SECURITY.

THEY HAVE HOPE. I MEAN, IF YOU GO BACK TO THE STUDENT JUST TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A MEANS TO GET HER CAR FIXED FOR TRANSPORTATION.

SO THESE GRANTS ALSO PROVIDE HOPE, KNOWLEDGE, SUSTAINABILITY AND CARE FOR OUR STUDENTS.

SO AGAIN, WE ARE IN THE BUSINESS OF BARRIER BUSTING FOR DALLAS.

SPEAKING. WE HAVE ANOTHER PRESENTATION WITH YOUR COMMENTS AFTER THIS PRESENTATION OR AFTER ALL? BOTH OF THEM. AFTER ALL OF THEM.

OKAY. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU. THANKS TO TRUSTEE FLOYD FOR GIVING UP HIS TIME BECAUSE WE HAVE ANOTHER PRESENTATION.

[4.2. Career Connected Learning: Workforce Scholars Program]

CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING WORKFORCE SCHOLARS TO NEIL HUMPHREYS AURIA SMITH AND WHERE IS THAT PRESENTATION? MEENA HELLO, IRAQI FINANCE AND CHANCELLOR REVIEW AND REGULATORY.

NOW PERFECTING FIRST IS REALLY VERY ENGAGED.

LIKE ARE YOU. ARE YOU.

THANKS. ALWAYS A PLEASURE.

I'M GLAD TO HEAR THAT. RIGHT PLACE.

RIGHT? YEAH, I CAN IMAGINE.

POSSIBLE TEARS. IT'S A.

I DON'T KNOW.

YEAH. AND I LIKE APPARENTLY THEY THEY THEY UPDATE LIKE.

I KNOW. SO THEY'RE DOING A GOOD JOB.

NO, THANK YOU. GOOD MORNING, EVERYONE.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE TODAY.

ALL OF OUR GUESTS AT THE TABLE.

AND THANK YOU, BOARD MEMBERS, CHANCELLOR, FOR ALLOWING US TO TALK TODAY A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT PARTNERSHIPS.

[01:40:01]

AND I KNOW YOU SAW THIS IN THE LAST PRESENTATION AND YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IT IN THIS ONE AS WELL.

WE SORRY, WE ARE TALKING TODAY ABOUT CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING AND WHAT IS CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING. YOU'RE GOING TO LEARN A BIT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT.

YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR A STORY TODAY ABOUT A SPECIFIC PROGRAM CALLED WORKFORCE SCHOLARS THAT WILL TELL YOU QUITE A BIT ABOUT.

BUT MY POINT IN STANDING HERE FIRST TODAY IS JUST TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WHAT IT REQUIRES TO DO THESE KINDS OF PROGRAMS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND IT REQUIRES NOT ONLY A WAY TO GET THE ROOM CLEARED.

IT REQUIRES NOT ONLY A LOT OF INTERNAL COLLABORATION, AND YOU'VE SEEN THAT EARLIER TODAY.

YOU'LL SEE IT INSIDE THIS PRESENTATION, BUT A LOT OF EXTERNAL PARTNERSHIPS AS WELL.

AND THAT IS SO IMPORTANT TO US AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR US TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS.

AND WE HAVE A NUMBER OF INTERNAL PARTNERS AND EXTERNAL PARTNERS HERE TODAY.

GLORIA WILL INTRODUCE MOMENTARILY.

SO WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR ABOUT TODAY IS A PROGRAM CALLED WORKFORCE SCHOLARS.

THIS WAS ACTUALLY BORN TO HELP US SOLVE A PROBLEM THAT CAME AS A RESULT OF THE PANDEMIC.

WE'VE BEEN WORKING EXTENSIVELY IN 2019 TO DESIGN A YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM.

WE HAD FUNDING FROM JP MORGAN CHASE.

WE HAD SOME HELP FROM OUTSIDE ENTITIES THAT HELPED US FIGURE OUT WHAT OPPORTUNITY YOUTH NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND WORK AND EARN MODELS, LEARN, EARN AND LEARN MODELS WAS A BIG PART OF THAT.

THEY NEED WORK BASED EXPERIENCE BECAUSE THEY FACE THE SAME CHALLENGE THAT A LOT OF OTHER YOUNG PEOPLE DO.

YOU NEED EXPERIENCE TO GET A JOB.

NOBODY WILL GIVE YOU A JOB TO GET EXPERIENCE.

SO WHAT'S THE ANSWER? HOW? HOW DOES SOMEBODY ACTUALLY GET IN THE WORKFORCE WHEN THEY HEAR THAT SAME THING OVER AND OVER? SO WORK BASED LEARNING BECAME REALLY WHAT WE WERE TALKING ABOUT.

WE HAD PLANS. WE HAD EMPLOYER PARTNERS TO TO BE ABLE TO OFFER YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP.

AND THEN COVID HAPPENED AND SHUT THAT DOWN JUST LIKE WE WENT VIRTUAL.

EVERYBODY WAS WORKING REMOTE.

SO WE'RE OUR EMPLOYER PARTNERS.

THERE WASN'T A PLACE TO SEND A STUDENT FOR A WORK BASED LEARNING EXPERIENCE.

THERE WAS NOT AN OFFICE FOR THEM TO GO TO.

AND WHEN WE CAME BACK, THE REST OF THE REAL WORLD AND MOST OF OUR PARTNERS STAYED REMOTE.

AND SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? HOW ARE WE GOING TO HELP THESE STUDENTS GET THAT OPPORTUNITY? AND GLORIA REALLY CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA, AND I THOUGHT IT WAS BRILLIANT.

YOU KNOW, WE'RE A BIG EMPLOYER.

WE HIRE A LOT OF PEOPLE.

WE HAVE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY HERE IN DALLAS COLLEGE.

WHY DON'T WE HIRE THESE STUDENTS OURSELVES? WHY DON'T WE BE THAT FIRST OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS? AND SO WORK THROUGH ALL THE PROCESSES TO GET THAT DONE.

AND REALLY THE BIRTH OF WORKFORCE SCHOLARS CAME FROM THAT.

SO LORI IS GOING TO TAKE THIS AND WITH ALL OF OUR PARTNERS AND WE DO HAVE SOME WORKFORCE SCHOLARS IN THE ROOM WITH US TODAY, WE'RE HAPPY TO HAVE THEM TALK TO YOU IN JUST A LITTLE BIT AND WE WILL TRY TO QUICKLY GET THROUGH OUR PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU. GOOD MORNING.

GOOD MORNING. THANK YOU ALL FOR GIVING US A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO TELL YOU ABOUT THE WORKFORCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM.

WE WILL GO THROUGH THIS PRESENTATION A LITTLE BIT FASTER THAN NORMAL BECAUSE WE DO HAVE PARTNERS HERE.

AND WHAT'S IMPORTANT FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT IS WE WANT YOU TO HEAR FROM THE PARTNERS WHO ARE INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

AND SO I'LL JUST GO BACK OVER THIS.

THIS IS OUR ORGANIZATIONAL CHART FOR CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING.

THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAM IS UNDER EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING, WHICH IS LED BY ANITA BEDFORD.

SHE'S OUR DIRECTOR.

AND WE'RE GOING TO TELL YOU HOW THIS PROGRAM WAS DEVELOPED AND THE INSTRUMENTAL STAKEHOLDERS THAT WERE INVOLVED IN HELPING US CREATE THIS.

THE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING TEAM HAS SIX POSITIONS.

THEY CURRENTLY HAVE TWO VACANCIES, BUT THOSE SIX POSITIONS THAT ARE FUNDED BY DALLAS COLLEGE ARE ALSO SUPPLEMENTED BY GRANT FUNDED POSITIONS, AND WE HAVE ABOUT 15 OF THOSE.

SO TOTAL WE HAVE A $437,000 OPERATING BUDGET.

AND OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAM IS TO STRENGTHEN THE CAREER CONNECTED LEARNER NETWORK, BUT ALSO TO IMPACT DIVERSITY THROUGH COLLABORATION.

AS PIPER SAID, THE DALLAS COLLEGE WORKFORCE COLLEGE PROGRAM IS A WORK BASED LEARNING PROGRAM THAT WE CREATED TO HELP STUDENTS GET A PATHWAY TO HIGH DEMAND OCCUPATIONS.

WE WANTED TO BUILD UPON THE SUCCESS THAT DALLAS COLLEGE AND DALLAS ISD CREATED THROUGH THEIR CREATION OF PATHWAYS AND DALLAS ISD INVESTING IN CAREER INSTITUTES TO GIVE STUDENTS WORK EXPERIENCE THAT THEY CAN LEVERAGE WITH THOSE CREDENTIALS.

[01:45:08]

SO. THIS IS JUST A LITTLE BIT OF THE HISTORY.

PIPER REALLY WENT INTO A LOT OF DETAIL PRE THE WORK THAT WE DID PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC.

BUT WHEN WE HAD THE PIVOT, WE WERE REALLY STRUGGLING TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW CAN WE STAND THIS PROGRAM UP, HOW CAN WE MAKE IT WORK? WE REACHED OUT TO OUR PARTNERS AT DALLAS, ISD, AND I'LL LET EVERYONE AT THE TABLE INTRODUCE THEMSELVES IN JUST A MINUTE.

BUT THEY DID STEP UP AND SAY, WE'RE ALL IN.

SO BEFORE I GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, I JUST WANT EVERYONE AT THE TABLE TO I WANT TO GIVE THEM AN OPPORTUNITY TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES STARTING AT THE END.

JARED JOHNSON, SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE AT THE DALLAS REGIONAL CHAMBER.

PLEASURE TO BE HERE. HARRY HUMPHREY AND I AM WORKPLACE LEARNING AND CAREER COORDINATOR FOR THE EARLY COLLEGES.

GOOD MORNING. JANELLE HUMPHREYS.

I AM THE CTE DIRECTOR FOR DALLAS ISD AND IT IS ABSOLUTELY A PRIVILEGE.

GOOD MORNING. MY NAME IS PAMELA LARKIN AND I SERVE AS THE CHIEF DIGITAL ENGAGEMENT OFFICER HERE AT DALLAS COLLEGE SCOTT WRIGHT.

I OVERSEE FACILITIES FOR THE COLLEGE.

SO THIS JUST GIVES YOU A LITTLE BIT OF A SNAPSHOT OF THE TIMELINE AND WHERE WE ARE NOW.

I WON'T GO INTO DETAIL ON EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE DONE, BUT THE TEAM THAT YOU HAVE BEFORE IS BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS, AS WELL AS SOME OTHER KEY INDIVIDUALS WHO WE'LL TALK ABOUT LATER ON WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US DEVELOP THIS PROGRAM.

SO JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF UNDERSTANDING OF THE OPPORTUNITY YOU POPULATION IN THE LANDSCAPE HERE IN DALLAS, THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK OF DALLAS SAYS 16 TO 19 YEAR OLDS FACE HIGH PERCENTAGES OF YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT AND NEED INCREASED EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE PREPARATION AND ALSO 0.5 MILLION OPPORTUNITY.

YOUTH IN TEXAS ARE CRUCIAL TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF HUMAN CAPITAL.

SO FOR US, THIS IS ALSO ABOUT DEVELOPING THAT WORKFORCE TALENT PIPELINE AND GIVING BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY EARLY ACCESS TO INDIVIDUALS AS SOON AS THEY COMPLETE HIGH SCHOOL, GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.

AND SO WE ARE ALSO ANOTHER KEY STAKEHOLDER THAT COULD NOT BE HERE IS THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS LBJ SCHOOL.

THEY ARE DOING RESEARCH AND WORKING WITH US TO HELP US UNDERSTAND HOW WE WHAT'S WORKING WITH THE PROGRAM, WHERE ARE THE OPPORTUNITIES TO FILL GAPS AND HOW WE CAN SCALE UP IN SOME OF THOSE KEY FINDINGS THAT THE EARLY FINDINGS THAT THEIR RESEARCH HAS GIVEN US IS THAT COMMUNITY COLLEGES ARE KEY CATALYSTS TO REALLY MAKE A PROGRAM LIKE THIS WORK AND REALLY CONNECT OPPORTUNITY TO YOUTH POPULATIONS TO HELP DEVELOP THE WORKFORCE TALENT PIPELINE.

AND BY DOING SO, WHAT OUR WORK WILL DO IS HELP THESE INDIVIDUALS COMPETE FOR HIGHER EARNING POTENTIAL.

SO THE STAKEHOLDER SYSTEM AND SO.

JARED HAS TO LEAVE.

SO WHAT I'M GOING TO DO IS ACTUALLY GIVE EACH STAKEHOLDER AN OPPORTUNITY TO TELL YOU WHY THEY INVESTED IN THIS PARTICULAR JOURNEY WITH US HERE AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

AND SO DALLAS JARED REPRESENTING THE DALLAS REGIONAL CHAMBER AND EMPLOYMENT PARTNERS.

IF YOU WANT TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD, MICHAEL US.

THANK YOU, GLORIA.

CHAIR TRUSTEES, WE ARE REALLY APPRECIATIVE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY TO PARTNER WITH DALLAS COLLEGE.

WE ARE VERY, VERY CONNECTED TO AND FOCUSED ON THE EMPLOYABILITY OF OUR LOCAL YOUNG ADULT AND YOUTH TALENT IN OUR REGION.

WE BELIEVE THAT THE WORKFORCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM IS A SIGNIFICANT AND PROMISING MODEL THAT WILL HELP TO DO TWO THINGS THAT THE CHAMBER IS PARTICULARLY FOCUSED ON.

THE FIRST IS TO FILL UNFILLED JOBS IN OUR HIGH DEMAND INDUSTRIES, AND THE SECOND IS TO DOUBLE LIVING WAGE ATTAINMENT AMONGST OUR YOUNG ADULTS IN OUR REGION, PARTICULARLY THOSE IN OUR MORE UNDERSERVED REGIONS AND POPULATIONS.

WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE SOME SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGES AND BARRIERS TO OUR STUDENTS AND TO OUR EMPLOYERS AS IT RELATES TO QUALITY, WORK BASED LEARNING THAT LEADS TO MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT.

AND SO WE PARTNERED WITH DALLAS COLLEGE TO HELP ADDRESS THIS ISSUE THROUGH A SOCIAL CAPITAL PROJECT THAT BROUGHT IN A THIRD PARTY BEST IN CLASS PARTNER KNOWN AS GRADUATION ALLIANCE, TO PROVIDE INTENSIVE COACHING TO EACH OF THE STUDENTS, TO HELP THEM ESSENTIALLY ADDRESS AND TO TO BORROW A MODERNISM, TO BUST BARRIERS RELATED TO THEIR BOTH ACADEMIC AND WORKPLACE LEARNING SKILLS, BUT ALSO WITHIN THEIR OWN RESPECTIVE SOCIAL NETWORKS RELATIVE TO BOTH THEIR COMMUNITIES AND THEIR

[01:50:07]

WORKPLACE. WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE PARTNERSHIP AND APOLOGIES THAT I'LL HAVE TO LEAVE, BUT WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR THE PARTNERSHIP OF DALLAS COLLEGE VICE CHANCELLOR WILKINS, GLORIA SMITH, SHERIDAN NIXON, MELINDA TAYLOR, WHO HAVE BEEN VERY, VERY STRONG AND GREAT PARTNERS FOR US IN THIS WORK.

CAN I ASK A QUESTION BEFORE YOU LEAVE ABOUT WHAT CAN WE DO BETTER OR DIFFERENT TO BETTER MESSAGE AND COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR MEMBERS THAT YOU SERVE? I BELIEVE THIS MODEL IS IS THE THE RIGHT STEP IN THAT WHAT YOU ARE ESSENTIALLY LEVERAGING, WHICH IS A BRILLIANT CONCEPT, IS THE EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES THAT EXIST HERE IN YOUR INSTITUTION.

AND THEN USING THAT AS ESSENTIALLY THE PREDICATE FOR EITHER PARTNERSHIP OR EMPLOYMENT IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR.

WHAT TO A PERSON TOLD YOU IT IS THE EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE LACKING THE MOST, AND BY PROVIDING THAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM IN A MORE SORT OF CONTROLLED AND ROBUST SETTING AS A AS THE PRELIMINARY SETTING FOR WORK BASED LEARNING, WE BELIEVE WILL OPEN UP THE DOORS FOR A LOT MORE CUSTOMERS.

HOW DO YOU CONVEY THAT MESSAGE TO YOUR MEMBERSHIP? SO FOR US, IT'S REALLY ABOUT BEING ABLE TO LEVERAGE THE FINDINGS AND THE DATA THAT THIS PROJECT HAS HAS BEEN ABLE TO TO TO TRACK, I THINK, GOING TO BE LOOKING VERY CLOSELY AT THE REPORT THAT GLORIA MENTIONED TO HELP PROVIDE THAT DATA TO OUR EMPLOYERS TO SAY WITH THIS TYPE OF TRAINING AND THIS TYPE OF TIMELINE, HERE'S WHAT THESE STUDENTS CAN DO, NOT ONLY IN THIS SETTING, BUT FOR YOU AS PRIVATE SECTOR EMPLOYERS.

SO NOW WE'LL HEAR FROM OUR DALLAS ISD PARTNERS AND KIND OF TAG TEAM A LITTLE BIT.

OKAY. I WILL START OFF SINCE I DEAL WITH I WORK WITH A TECH IN EARLY COLLEGES AND WE WERE A HUGE PROMOTER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

BUT KIND OF HOW THIS PARTNERSHIP FELL UPON US IS THAT SOME OF OUR CAMPUSES HAVE A CO-OP CLASS THAT IS REQUIRED FOR THEIR ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE.

AND SO IT WAS BECOMING A CHALLENGE TO FULFILL THOSE WORK HOURS FOR OUR STUDENTS.

SO AN EXAMPLE IS JAMES MADISON THERAPY TECH PROGRAM.

AND THEN P-TECH. PINKSTON HAS THEIR P-TECH THAT ALSO REQUIRES CO-OP, AND IT'S A TWO YEAR CLASS.

IT'S TWO YEARS IN A ROW THAT THESE STUDENTS REALLY NEED THIS CO-OP.

SO THIS WAS A PERFECT FIT AS WELL TO MAKE THIS PARTNERSHIP, INCLUDING THOSE STUDENTS THAT WERE IN THIS CO-OP CLASS WHERE THEY'RE ALREADY WORKING WITH DALLAS COLLEGE, AND THEN TO PARTNER THEM WITH A DEPARTMENT THAT MATCHED THEIR PATHWAY.

SO IF IT IS A IT DEPARTMENT OR AN IT PROGRAM, THEN MARLENA HELPED FIND A POSITION IN THOSE DEPARTMENTS AND AND SHE FOUND THEM AT THE CAMPUSES WHERE THEY WERE LOCATED.

SO MADISON IS WORKING WITH CEDAR VALLEY AND SHE PARTNERED WITH THOSE DEPARTMENTS AND FOUND POSITIONS FOR THOSE STUDENTS THERE.

SO THOSE STUDENTS ACTUALLY HAVE BEEN ONBOARDED FROM THE BEGINNING.

SO THE INFANTS INFANT STAGE OF THIS WHOLE PROGRAM, WAY BACK IN AUGUST AND SEPTEMBER, THERE WAS A HUGE PUSH AND THEN WE PUSHED IT OUT FURTHER WITH OUR COORDINATORS AT OUR CAMPUSES TO FULFILL I THINK WE'RE UP TO 41 SPOTS AT THE VARIOUS CAMPUSES WITH OUR STUDENTS.

SO P-TECH, I THINK, FEELS MORE OF THE SPOTS VERSUS CTE.

BUT WE ARE ON THE CAMPUSES REGULARLY, AND THEY HAVE BEEN THE THE DEPARTMENTS THAT ARE WORKING WITH US KIND OF SWITCHED UP SEMESTER WHEN THE CLASSES CHANGED AND THE STUDENTS SCHEDULES CHANGED BECAUSE WE HAVE BUSSES GOING TO THOSE CAMPUSES.

THEY'RE ABLE TO WORK DURING THOSE HOURS WHEN THEY'RE NOT IN CLASS, AND THEN SOME OF THEM DO LEAVE AT THE END OF THE DAY WHEN THAT BUS LEAVES.

BUT SOME OF THEM ALSO STAY AS WELL.

TO DO SO CARRY COVERS AND SUPPORTS OUR STUDENTS IN THE P-TECH PROGRAMS. BUT WE HAVE STUDENTS WORKING ACROSS SEVERAL OTHER LINES IN CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION, SO THAT'S COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAMING AS WELL AS OUR CAREER INSTITUTES OR OUR SPECIALTY CTE CENTERS.

AND FOR THE LAST, I CAN'T TELL YOU, MAYBE 20 PLUS YEARS WE'VE BEEN IN THIS SPACE OF PROVIDING INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

SO WHEN WE HAD THIS OPPORTUNITY WITH DALLAS COLLEGE ONE AS A TRUSTED PARTNER IN SO MANY OTHER WAYS, IT JUST MADE SENSE.

[01:55:08]

WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO THINK ABOUT THE WHY, BUT WHAT IT DOES IN TERMS OF HELPING US PROMOTE AND EXTEND MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS GRADUATE WITH A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE. THIS GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO VALIDATE THEIR LEARNING, RIGHT? IT'S CONNECTED. LEARNING STUDENTS HAVE MANY CHOICES IN DALLAS ISD AND IN THESE PROGRAMS OF STUDY, WE CAN NOW TAKE WHAT THEY'RE LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM AND WORK WITH VALUED PARTNERS TO EXTEND AND ALLOW THEM TO APPLY, APPLY THEIR LEARNING.

SO AGAIN, WE WANT OUR STUDENTS GRADUATING WITH COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.

THAT'S STACKABLE CREDENTIALS AND IT MAY GO ACROSS THE SPECTRUM.

IT'S DALLAS COLLEGE AND ASSOCIATE'S DEGREES, IT'S INTEREST BASED CERTIFICATIONS, IT'S LEVEL ONE AND LEVEL TWO CERTIFICATIONS.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT? WE'RE GOING TO PUT THE CHERRY ON TOP AND THAT'S THAT WORK BASED EXPERIENCE.

SO IT'S AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY.

THANK YOU. AND SO NOW, EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS THE STUDENTS, WE WILL LET YOU HEAR FROM THE STUDENTS LAST, BECAUSE WE REALLY WANT YOU TO HEAR FROM TWO OF OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY THE PROGRAM.

BUT I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO GIVE SOME OF OUR INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS, BECAUSE I WILL TELL YOU, PIPER.

PIPER TOLD YOU THIS WAS MY IDEA, RIGHT? BUT IT WOULD NOT HAVE COME TO FRUITION IF WE DIDN'T HAVE PEOPLE WILLING TO COME TO THE TABLE TO REALLY WORK WITH US, COLLABORATE WITH US AND SPONSOR THESE STUDENTS IN THEIR AREA.

SO I WOULD LIKE TO INVITE DR.

LUCKETT AND SCOTT BRIGHT TO SAY A FEW WORDS ABOUT WHY THEY CHOSE TO TAKE A CHANCE ON US WITH THIS PROGRAM, BECAUSE THEIR AREAS WERE THE FIRST TWO AREAS TO HELP US STAND THE PROGRAM UP.

GOOD MORNING, TRUSTEES AND DR.

LENNON. THE QUESTION OF WHY THIS WAS REALLY A PERFECT ALIGNMENT ALIGNMENT TO OUR MISSION AND OUR VISION.

AND IT HIT ONE OF OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES, WHICH WAS TO REALLY STRENGTHEN THAT CAREER CONNECTED LEARNER MODEL.

BUT ALSO WHEN WE GO BACK AND WE THINK ABOUT PARTNERSHIPS, I GO BACK TO SOMETHING THAT DR.

WILKINS ALWAYS DISCUSSES, AND SHE SAYS, TO ENSURE THAT WE ARE POSITIONED SO THAT WE CAN ANSWER THE CALL WHEN A PARTNER OR AN ORGANIZATION COMES TO US WITH A PROBLEM, WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO ENGAGE QUICKLY AND COME UP WITH A SOLUTION THAT'S GOING TO BE ABLE TO TO MEET THAT PARTICULAR NEED TO BETTER SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.

AND SO IN ADDITION, THIS WAS ALSO AN INITIATIVE THAT WE WERE ALREADY THINKING ABOUT FROM A DIGITAL PERSPECTIVE OF HOW CAN WE INTEGRATE STUDENTS.

WE HAD A WONDERFUL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM, SO HOW COULD WE LEVERAGE WHAT THEY WERE LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM AND COUPLE THAT WITH SOME REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE? AND SO WHEN GLORIA CAME WITH THAT PARTICULAR PROGRAM, IT WAS JUST A NATURAL FIT AND WE WERE EXCITED.

AND WE'RE ALSO EXCITED ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THE PARTICULAR PROGRAM BECAUSE WE ARE NOW THINKING ABOUT OTHER AREAS THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY INCORPORATE THE STUDENTS IN THIS APPRENTICESHIP TYPE OF MODEL TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THEM EXPERIENCE.

SO WHEN THEY GRADUATE, THEY WILL HAVE A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE TO BE ABLE TO FIND GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT.

JEREMIAH THANK YOU, TRUSTEES.

DR. RYAN WHEN I CAME TO ME AS WELL, I SEE THE PROBLEM BECAUSE WE HIRE A LOT OF THE TRADES ELECTRICAL, MECHANICAL, PLUMBING, LANDSCAPING GROUNDS, ETCETERA.

AND I SEE THAT A LOT.

THEY HAVE CERTAIN EDUCATION AND MAYBE OR CERTIFICATE, BUT THEY DON'T HAVE EXPERIENCE, RIGHT? AND SO THE IDEA WAS TO, YOU KNOW, IT'S KIND OF LIKE THE, YOU KNOW, THE TEENAGER WITH A CREDIT CARD WHO CAN'T GET A CREDIT CARD WITHOUT CREDIT, CAN'T GET CREDIT WITHOUT CREDIT CARD. RIGHT. SO I UNDERSTAND THAT.

SO THEY CAME TO ME AND I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT IDEA.

AND I FROM FROM MY TEAM'S PERSPECTIVE, WE NEEDED HELP.

AND WE CARRY A LOT OF VACANCIES USUALLY.

SO TO ME, THIS WAS JUST A PERFECT THING TO DO.

AND SO I THINK AND I'LL GET INTO THE DETAILS OF IT, BUT WE WE INTERVIEWED AND SELECTED A COUPLE OF AREAS AND IT WAS JUST SPECTACULAR.

THE BIGGEST THING WRONG WITH THIS PROGRAM IS THERE'S NOT ENOUGH UP.

MY TEAM WANTS MORE AND MORE OF THEM.

I THINK WE OPENED UP 12 OR 15 SPOTS AND WE'RE UNABLE TO GET THEM ALL, BUT HOPEFULLY THEY WILL GROW.

BUT IF I CAN HAVE CHRIS CHRIS HARMON COME UP REAL QUICK, I JUST WANTED TO TALK ABOUT BECAUSE WE'VE DONE THIS FOR A COUPLE OF SEMESTERS NOW, I JUST WANT HIM TO TALK ABOUT WHICH AREAS WE WE INSPECTED IN THAT.

YEAH. YES, WE'VE HAD SEVERAL OF THEM.

YOU KNOW, LAST SUMMER WE WAS THE FIRST PUSH WE HAD ONE.

WE HAD SOMEBODY HELPING OUT IN FLEET.

WE HAD LANDSCAPING SEVERAL AND MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS, SHIPPING AND RECEIVING AND MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS.

[02:00:01]

WE STILL HAVE SEVERAL AT A COUPLE CAMPUSES, MOUNTAIN VIEW.

AND I THINK WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM KEVIN IN A LITTLE WHILE.

BUT THEY'RE, YOU KNOW, HELPING US WITH LED LIGHT RETROFITS, WHICH IS ONE OF OUR STRATEGIC GOALS IN IN FACILITIES, HELPING US DO THE CHANGING REFLECTOMETERS OUT ON TOILETS, YOU KNOW, HELPING RUN KEY SERVICES, THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO GETTING A LOT OF BENEFIT FROM THEM.

AND I THINK THEY'RE PICKING UP SOME VALUABLE TRAITS, EVEN IF THEY DON'T STAY IN TRADES, WHICH I HOPE THEY DO BECAUSE I'M A BIG FAN OF TRADES AND WE HAVE SHORTAGES IN THE TRADE, PARTICULARLY WITH THE YOUNGER.

MOST PEOPLE IN TRADES ARE ACTUALLY OLDER THAN I AM.

SO WE DEFINITELY WANT TO GET SOME SOME YOUTH, THE YOUTH MOVEMENT IN THERE AND THERE'S A LOT OF REALLY LUCRATIVE JOBS IN TRADES.

SO THE MORE WE CAN GET PEOPLE IN, SEE WHAT WE DO, MAYBE THEY DEVELOP A PASSION FOR IT.

IT'D BE GREAT. YOU KNOW, THE LAST THING I ASKED COREY, I SAID, WELL, HOW ARE WE GOING TO PAY THESE PEOPLE? AND SHE SAID, I'LL PAY FOR IT.

AND I SAID, LET'S GO.

SO I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THEM ON OUR TEAM.

NOW, THAT FUNDING HAS LIMITS, THOUGH, RIGHT? THAT'S WHY WE DO THIS.

AND SO THE OTHER KEY PARTNER IN THIS IS WE ARE ALSO LEVERAGING STATE FUNDING THAT'S TIED TO CREATING YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES.

ANITA AND HER TEAM WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN SOME SECURING SOME FUNDING WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO FUND SOME OF THE SCHOLARS AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES THAT ARE A PART OF HER AREA AND PAY THOSE STUDENTS WAGES DURING THE SUMMER.

AND SO WE HOPE THAT WE CAN LEVERAGE MORE OF THOSE OPPORTUNITIES TO KEEP AND TO KEEP THIS PROGRAM GOING AND SCALE IT UP.

SO JUST TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE WORK BASED LEARNING INTEGRATION PIECE OF IT, THIS PROGRAM IS INTERNSHIPS, IT'S PRE APPRENTICESHIPS. BUT THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO CREATE A YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP MODEL THAT ALLOWS THIS STUDENT OR THIS SCHOLAR AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET UP TO TWO YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE WHILE THEY ARE LEARNING SIMULTANEOUSLY.

SO WHEN THEY GRADUATE, THEY NOT ONLY HAVE THE CREDENTIALS CERTIFICATE OR DEGREE, BUT THEY HAVE MARKETABLE EXPERIENCE THAT THEY CAN PUT ON A RESUME AND WHICH COULD EVENTUALLY HELP THEM COMPETE FOR HIGHER ENTRY LEVEL WAGES.

OR THIS COULD BE BOTH A JUNIOR AND SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL, AS WELL AS A FIRST YEAR COLLEGE.

SECOND YEAR COLLEGE, RIGHT, EXACTLY.

OKAY. WE JUST STARTED WITH HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE WERE WORKING ON.

BUT THE GOAL IS IF WE CAN FIND THE FUNDING AND MAKE IT WORK, WE DEFINITELY WANT TO EXPAND IT TO OUR OUR ADULT STUDENTS AS WELL THAT FALL IN THAT OPPORTUNITY, YOUTH AGE OF 18 TO 24 YEAR OLD.

SO SO WE COULD TAKE PARTNERS LIKE BANK OF AMERICA BANKING PEOPLE AND TRAINS JUNIOR SENIORS IN THIS BANKING PROGRAM.

SO WHEN THEY DO GRADUATE WITH THEIR ASSOCIATE, THEY ENTER A HIGHER PAY GRADE IF THEY DON'T PURSUE ANOTHER LEVEL OF COLLEGE.

YES, SIR. OKAY.

SO THE INTEGRATED.

MODEL. IT INTEGRATES ALL OF THE THINGS YOU HEARD EACH OF THE PARTNERS TALK ABOUT THE COACHING, THE TEACHING, THE KNOWLEDGE, THE BUILDING, THAT SOCIAL CAPITAL, NETWORK SKILLS, ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT ARE CRUCIAL IN ORDER TO MAKE A CANDIDATE COMPETITIVE.

AND SO JUST TO GIVE YOU A SNAPSHOT OF WHAT THE WORKFORCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM STRUCTURE IS NOW, IT IS AN EARN AND LEARN MODEL.

IT'S HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS AND SENIORS, AND IT CAN BE UP TO TWO YEARS IN LENGTH.

AS ALREADY MENTIONED, WE TRY TO EMPLOY THEM ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO 16 HOURS A WEEK AND DURING THE SUMMER WE WANT TO OFFER THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO WORK UP TO 30 HOURS A WEEK.

WE WORKED PAINSTAKINGLY WITH HR TO MAKE SURE THAT EVEN THAT THAT OUR CONFIGURATION WOULD NOT PUT THEM ABOVE A PART TIME STATUS.

SO A LOT OF WORK WENT INTO THIS ON THE FRONT END TO REALLY BUILD A MODEL THAT WOULD ALSO FIT WITHIN OUR HUMAN RESOURCE SYSTEM.

IT GIVES THEM HANDS ON EXPERIENCE THAT HOPEFULLY ALIGNS WITH THE INDUSTRY WHERE THEY'RE WORKING TOWARD GETTING THAT CREDENTIAL.

BUT IF YOU'VE EVER PUT A KID THROUGH COLLEGE, WE KNOW THEY CHANGE THEIR MINDS, RIGHT? BUT IT STILL GIVES THEM SOME WORK EXPERIENCE.

THE MENTORSHIP FROM INDUSTRY EXPERTS AND YOU'LL GET TO HEAR FROM THEM, THEIR SUPERVISORS AS WELL.

AND THEN THAT SUCCESS COACH, WE USE OUR SUCCESS COACHES AS WELL AS PARTNERING WITH THE DALLAS REGIONAL CHAMBER, WHO HAS CONTRACTED GRADUATION ALLIANCE TO PROVIDE SOME INTENSIVE SUCCESS COACHING FOR THOSE THAT ARE FACING SOME SIGNIFICANT BARRIERS TO SUCCESS.

[02:05:06]

SO, GLORIA, IF SOMEBODY WHO STARTS THIS FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE YEAR OR 25 OR 6 YEARS OLD, THEY'RE NOT IN HIGH SCHOOL.

DOES THAT EMPLOYER THAT THEY WORK FOR MAKE A CONDITION WHILE THEY'RE GOING THROUGH THE PROGRAM? WELL, OUR MODEL, WE DO NOT WANT THE EMPLOYER TO PAY FOR TUITION AND WE WOULD RATHER THE EMPLOYER PAY THE STUDENT WAGES.

WHAT WE ARE DOING IS WE ARE LEVERAGING OUR RESOURCES AS AN INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO IDENTIFY RESOURCES TO PAY FOR THE STUDENTS TUITION.

SO WITH THE ISP, STUDENTS, THEIR TECH, THEIR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION STUDENTS, THEY DON'T HAVE A TUITION BILL FOR, BUT FOR ADULT LEARNERS.

ON THE CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING SIDE, WE ACTUALLY, BECAUSE OF THE WORK WE DID WITH THIS PROGRAM, WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH DR.

FREEMAN'S TEAM AND COMPETE FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR GRANT, AND WE WERE AWARDED A $5 MILLION GRANT TO UPSCALE AND EXPAND THE WORKFORCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM OVER THE NEXT FOUR YEARS.

SO THE COMPARABLE PROGRAM IS STARBUCKS.

STARBUCKS HAS A PARTNERSHIP WITH ASU.

MY GRANDDAUGHTER WORKS FOR STARBUCKS UP TO THAT 30 HOURS.

HER TUITION AT ASU IS PAID FOR BY STARBUCKS WHILE SHE IS EMPLOYED IN THAT PROGRAM.

AND SO WE ALSO HAVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH AMAZON AND THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

AND SO WHEN I SAY ON THE CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING SIDE, WE ARE LEVERAGING RESOURCES TO COVER THE COST OF TUITION.

IF WE HAVE A MAJOR EMPLOYER AND THAT'S A PART OF THEIR INCENTIVE PROGRAM, WE WOULD LEVERAGE THAT TO COVER THE COST OF TUITION.

BUT THE KEY THING IS WE DON'T WANT THE STUDENT TO HAVE TO PAY TUITION.

WALK YOU BACK ONE SLIDE.

SURE. THANKS.

SO WHAT THIS DESCRIBES IS WHAT DALLAS COLLEGE IS IS OFFERING TO JUNIORS AND SENIORS IN DISD RIGHT THROUGH DR.

LUCKINS AND SCOTT'S DEPARTMENTS, FOR EXAMPLE, IS DISD AND ITS IT AND FACILITIES DEPARTMENTS OFFERING EXACTLY THIS SAME THING TO DISD STUDENTS AS WELL. CLOSE WE ARE WE JUST BEGAN SPENDING MORE TIME IN OUR INTERNAL DEPARTMENTS AS A POINT.

RIGHT? AND THIS PROGRAM HAS HELPED WITH US CREATING THAT MODEL FOR THE STUDENTS IN CTE.

WE HAVE SOME UNIQUE CHALLENGES AROUND WHEN STUDENTS CAN LEAVE CAMPUS.

ET CETERA. A LITTLE BIT WITH TRANSPORTATION.

SO WHILE WE ARE WORKING THROUGH THOSE CHALLENGES, WE HAVE STARTED WITH MAINTENANCE AND FACILITIES.

WE STARTED WITH OUR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENTS AND A LOT OF THAT WORK BEGINS IN THE SUMMER.

SO FOR THE LAST AND I HAD MENTIONED EARLIER, 20 PLUS YEARS OF US DOING INTERNSHIPS, WE'VE TAKEN ON OUR OWN INTERNAL DEPARTMENTS TO TWEAK AND MASSAGE WHERE WE'RE TRYING TO GO. BUT IT ABSOLUTELY MAKES SENSE.

AND IT JUST FOR US, I IMAGINE YOU'RE IN A SIMILAR ROLE LIKE GLORIA WAS AND HER TEAM IN APPROACHING THESE TWO.

I MEAN, I MEAN, YOU GOT TO YOU GOT TO GET THESE PEOPLE TO BUY IN.

AND IT'S IT'S HARD, RIGHT? I MEAN, IS IT ARE THEY EMBRACING? ARE THEY ARE THEY THE EMPLOYER DEPARTMENTS, IF YOU WILL, IN DISD, OR ARE YOU ABLE TO GET THEM ON BOARD? ARE THEY PARTICIPATING YET OR NOT? ABSOLUTELY.

AND IT HELPS WHEN THERE ARE VACANCIES.

RIGHT. RIGHT. AND THEY UNDERSTAND OR THEY TAKE TIME TO UNDERSTAND OUR PROGRAMING AND THAT WE ARE BRINGING, YOU KNOW, OUR FUTURE WORKFORCE, YOU KNOW, INTERNALLY.

SO SECURING THEIR CONFIDENCE IN THE WORK THAT WE'RE DOING WITH STUDENTS IN THEIR CLASSWORK, YOU KNOW, HELPS US MAKE THAT CASE.

IT'S REALLY THE INTERNAL NUANCES OF MAKING IT FIT HER SCHEDULES.

ET CETERA. AND THEY'RE ALL PAID, RIGHT? I CAN'T STRESS THAT ENOUGH.

THE DISTRICT IS OUR THEY ARE ALL PAID.

WE HELD A JOB FAIR JUST REALLY FOR INTERNAL DEPARTMENTS FOR OUR STUDENTS TO ATTEND.

SO WE DID TWO DIFFERENT VIRTUAL JOB FAIRS FOR THAT THROUGH A PLATFORM WHICH WAS SUPER HELPFUL AND INTERVIEWERS AND STUDENTS LOVED IT.

SO WE DID FIND A WAY THAT DIDN'T LET TRANSPORTATION OR IN-PERSON REALLY PREVENT US FROM DOING IT.

SO I THINK ONE OF THE GREATEST PROGRAMS, THE GREATEST VALUE OF THAT PROGRAM IS THAT IT IT CHANNELS THE STUDENT INTO THE VOCATION THAT THEY'RE TYPICALLY THINK THEY HAVE A DESIRE.

I HATE TO SEE A FUTURE NURSE CHECKING GROCERIES AT TOM THUMB.

SHE SHOULD BE WORKING AT PARKLAND HOSPITAL OR AT A HEALTH CLINIC SOMEWHERE TO DETERMINE THAT.

SO THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THE PROGRAM.

PAUSE A SECOND. I WANT TO PROCESS CHECK.

YOU WERE KIND ENOUGH TO GIVE US SOME OF YOUR TIME.

WHERE ARE WE IN THIS WHOLE WE HAVE A WHOLE DAY OF THIS KIND OF THING.

YOU'VE GOT SOME MORE STUFF TO DO, SO WE'RE FINE.

I THINK WE CAN MANAGE SOME OTHER THINGS.

[02:10:03]

OKAY. ALL RIGHT.

IF YOU'RE COMFORTABLE, I'M COMFORTABLE.

SO LET'S SEE.

BEFORE WE GET INTO JUST A RECAP OF OUR SUCCESS SO FAR, I REALLY WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

ESPECIALLY THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE IN THE ROOM, WHO ARE INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US STAND THIS UP, BECAUSE IT WASN'T JUST AS SIMPLE AS US SAYING WE WANT TO CREATE A WORKFORCE SCHOLARS PROGRAM.

LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN.

RIGHT? SO WE HAD TO BEGIN.

AND BEFORE I SAY THAT IF WE WERE IN OUR OLD STRUCTURE AS DXD, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MORE CHALLENGING.

THE FACT THAT WE ARE NOW ONE COLLEGE MADE THIS A MUCH MORE SEAMLESS PROCESS AND WHERE WE HAD TO BEGIN BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE JOB DESCRIPTIONS, WE DID NOT HAVE A PROCESS TO ONBOARD INDIVIDUALS OF THIS TYPE.

AND SO, STEVE MCDONNELL, YOU'RE IN THE ROOM.

COULD YOU PLEASE STAND AND TO WORK VERY CLOSELY WITH STEVE AND HUMAN RESOURCES? I DON'T KNOW IF LOU IS IN THE ROOM.

LULA MCGREGOR, BUT WE CAN WORK CLOSELY TO DEVELOP A JOB DESCRIPTION SPECIFICALLY FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS, AND WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS ONE WHERE IT GAVE THEM A DECENT WAGE.

SO ALL THE SCHOLARS MAY $15.38 AN HOUR.

AND AT THE TIME WHEN WE CREATED THAT, THAT WAS ACTUALLY ABOVE THE SUSTAINABLE LIVING WAGE FOR A SINGLE PERSON IN DALLAS COUNTY AS FAR AS STUDENT SUCCESS. THESE STEELERS DO HAVE TRANSPORTATION BARRIERS.

ONE OF THE THINGS WE SAID TO DALLAS ILYASAH TEAM WHEN WE FIRST APPROACHED THEM ABOUT PARTNERING WITH US, I THINK IT WAS JANELLE OR IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN STEVE WHO AT THE TIME, SHE SAID, WELL, WHAT DO THEY HAVE TO DO TO QUALIFY? I SAID, WE WANT THE STUDENTS NO ONE ELSE WANTS.

WE WANT THE STUDENTS WHO WEREN'T GETTING SELECTED FOR INTERNSHIPS FROM THEIR EXISTING PARTNERS.

AND WE WANTED TO CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THEM.

AND SO DR.

CLARK WASN'T AT THE TIME WAS A PART OF THE STUDENT SUCCESS.

AND WE WERE ABLE TO LEVERAGE SOME JOB READINESS AND SUPPORT SERVICES FROM THAT SIDE OF THE HOUSE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WEREN'T JUST GIVING THEM A JOB OPPORTUNITY, BUT WE WERE CREATING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THESE INDIVIDUALS AS THEY WORK WITH US.

AS FAR AS BUSINESS SUPPORT SERVICES.

MELINDA TAYLOR.

MELINDA, YOU'RE IN THE ROOM.

CAN YOU STAND UP? AND CLARK.

I'M SORRY. I FORGOT TO HAVE YOU STAND UP.

SO CLARK NOW IS ON THE CAREER CONNECTED LEARNING TEAM.

SO I LIKE TO THINK THAT HE LOVED THE WORK HE DID WITH US SO MUCH HE DECIDED TO DOING THIS RIGHT.

AND MELINDA TAYLOR IS OUR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF BASED EDUCATION.

SHE IS THE SHE'S THE ONE THAT HOLDS.

SHE'S THE GLUE THAT HOLDS THESE SCHOLARS TOGETHER.

SHE STICKS WITH THEM.

SHE MAKES SURE THEY HAVE ACCESS TO THE RESOURCES THAT THEY NEED.

AND SHE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING US GET THE TWO SCHOLARS HERE THAT WE HAVE.

AND AS FAR AS YOU WILL MEET CHRISTOPHER HARMON, GREGORY THOMAS AND RODNEY BROOKS FROM FACILITIES AND IT PROSPECTIVELY WHEN THE STUDENTS COME UP AND YOU'VE ALREADY MET JARED FROM THE REGIONAL CHAMBER AS WELL AS OUR DALLAS ISD REPRESENTATIVES.

AND SO THIS IS JUST TO RECAP.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS P-TECH AND CAREER AND TECHNICAL INSTITUTE STUDENTS.

BUT WE ALSO WOULD LIKE TO SCALE UP AND THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR GRANT, WE WILL BE ADDING ADULT STUDENTS AS WELL WHO ARE NOT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL. SUPPORTIVE SERVICES.

WE GIVE THEM AN INDUSTRY MENTOR.

WE HAVE THE JOB READINESS, SOFT SKILLS, COMMUNICATION AND COACHING INFUSED WITH THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE AND OUR CURRENT PATHWAYS.

WE'VE BEEN FOCUSING ON OUR I.T.

FACILITIES AND BUSINESS AND MARKETING.

BUT WE WE HOPE TO EXPAND THOSE.

AND THEN OF COURSE, THE PAID WORK EXPERIENCE, ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND REGULAR PERFORMANCE REVIEWS.

SO WHEN THESE SUPERVISORS COME UP HERE, IT'S NOT LIKE WE'RE JUST CHECKING A BOX AND SAYING, OH, WE HAVE THESE STUDENTS ON CAMPUS AND THEY'RE GOING TO WORK THEIR SUPERVISORS ACTUALLY EVALUATE THEIR PERFORMANCE AND GIVE US FEEDBACK.

SO OUR FIRST COHORT, WE ACTUALLY HAD 88 INDIVIDUALS INDICATE EARLY INTEREST, BUT TOM WAS NOT ON OUR SIDE.

WE STARTED IN LATE SPRING AND WE WANTED TO HAVE MORE SCHOLARS HERE FOR YOU, FOR YOU TO MEET THEM.

BUT OF COURSE, IT'S ALMOST GRADUATION TIME, RIGHT? SO LATE SPRING YOU'RE FOCUSED ON GETTING OUT, WHETHER YOU'RE GRADUATING OR IT'S THE SUMMER, RIGHT? BUT FOR FOR US TO APPROACH DALLAS ISD IN DECEMBER AND IN FEBRUARY, WE GOT 88 INDIVIDUALS THAT INDICATED INTEREST. WE WERE VERY EXCITED BECAUSE IT WASN'T JUST THE STUDENTS.

THEIR PARENTS ALSO PARTICIPATED IN INFORMATION SESSIONS THAT DALLAS ISD HELP US SET UP.

[02:15:04]

WE ENDED UP WITH ABOUT 15 STUDENTS WORKING ACROSS VARIOUS AREAS.

AND ALTHOUGH WE SET A TIMELINE FOR OURSELVES TO ONBOARD STUDENTS BY CERTAIN DATE, WE HAD TO KIND OF ROLL STUDENTS IN AS WE COULD GET THEM PROCESSED. AND THESE STUDENTS CAME FROM PINKSTON, W.T., WHITE ROOSEVELT, KIMBALL, BRYAN ADAMS AND MALINA HIGH SCHOOLS.

COHORT TO START IN FALL 2022.

SO WE HAD A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME TO PREPARE.

AND JUST TO GIVE YOU SOME HIGHLIGHTS, 255 FROM 88 TO 255 STUDENTS INDICATED INTEREST.

WE HAVE 41 STUDENTS THAT SHE INDICATED THAT ARE IN THE PROGRAM NOW ACROSS THESE VARIOUS AREAS.

AND WE HAVE ALSO INTEGRATED AS A PART OF THAT STUDENT EXPERIENCE A CAREER ASSESSMENT, BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, JUST BECAUSE THEY START OUT SAYING I WANT TO GO INTO NURSING SOMETIME, THEY CHANGE THEIR MIND.

SO WE REALLY WANT TO GIVE THEM TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE MAKING GOOD DECISIONS.

AND SO THE JOB TO MOSS THIS JUST TELLS YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT AND WHAT IT DOES FOR STUDENTS AND NOT JUST ONLY FOCUSES ON GIVING THEM A CAREER ASSESSMENT BASED ON ASKING THEM TARGETED QUESTIONS, BUT IT ALSO FOCUSES ON WHAT THEY'RE INTERESTED IN BASED ON THEIR PERSONALITY TRAITS AND AND WHAT THEY LIKE TO DO. AND THEN JARED SPOKE TO YOU ABOUT THIS STUDENT SOCIAL CAPITAL TRAINING.

SO I WON'T GO INTO DETAILS WITH THAT, BUT IT JUST GIVES YOU AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT THAT PROGRAM CONSISTS OF.

AND SO WHAT'S NEXT? WE DO WANT TO EXPAND RECRUITING.

WE WANT TO BRING IN OTHER ISP PARTNERS.

WE ALREADY HAVE BEEN APPROACHED BY THE ISP THAT WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM.

WE WANT TO EXPAND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES BECAUSE WE'RE REALIZING OUR STUDENTS DO HAVE CHALLENGES WITH TRANSPORTATION JUST GETTING BACK AND FORTH TO CLASS. BUT ONE OF THE THINGS WE REALIZED EARLY ON IS THEY HAVE CHALLENGES WITH ONBOARDING THE THE RESEARCH WORK THAT THE SCHOOL DID FOR US, YOU KNOW, REALLY WAS VERY TELLING FOR US BECAUSE MANY OF THOSE STUDENTS HAD NEVER GONE THROUGH A FORMAL PROCESS OF APPLYING FOR A JOB.

AND SO THOSE SUPPORTIVE SERVICES ARE VERY CRUCIAL.

THE MAJOR THINGS TO KEEP THIS GOING AND KEEP IT SUCCESSFUL.

WE NEED OTHER EMPLOYER PARTNERS.

YOU KNOW, WE'VE STEPPED OUT ON FAITH AND REALLY HAVE THE SUPPORT WE NEED INTERNALLY TO STAND THIS PROGRAM UP.

BUT IT IS AN EXPENSIVE ONE TO PAY WAGES AND TO HAVE OTHER EMPLOYERS COME TO THE TABLE AND INVEST IN THIS OPPORTUNITY IS CRUCIAL.

AND SO THE OTHER PIECE IS WE ARE GOING TO MEASURE OUR SUCCESS, WHAT'S WORKING, WHAT'S NOT, AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS ACCORDINGLY.

AND SO THAT IS ALL OF THE PRESENTATION.

I'M SORRY I WAS TALKING SO FAST, BUT I REALLY WANT TO GIVE THE SUPERVISORS AND THE STUDENTS THAT WE HAVE IN THE ROOM AN OPPORTUNITY TO COME UP AND JUST TELL YOU BRIEFLY HOW THE PROGRAM HAS IMPACTED THEM AND YOU KNOW, WHY THEY'RE INVESTING IN IT.

SO.

WELL, GOOD MORNING.

OH, YEAH. OH, NO, NO, NO.

I DON'T WANT TO SAY THAT. THE. WE'VE BEEN SITTING.

WE'VE BEEN SITTING. IT IS A PRIVILEGE AND AN HONOR TO BE BEFORE YOU TODAY.

I'M RHONDA TAYLOR.

THIS HAS BEEN GREAT.

AND I LOVE THESE KIDS.

THEY HAVE WORKED SO HARD AND I'M SO PROUD TO BE WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

THEY HAVE FOUGHT IT TO TO BE SUCCESSFUL.

THAT'S WHY I'M EMOTIONAL, BECAUSE I'VE BEEN A STUDENT AND I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE.

AND THIS YOUNG LADY, THIS IS LINDA KOOSAU.

LINDA AND I TEXTED LAST NIGHT TILL ABOUT 7 OR 8:00 BECAUSE I TOLD GLORIA, I SAID, I'M GOING TO PICK HER UP BECAUSE SHE HAS TO GO TO SCHOOL AND DIDN'T KNOW HOW SHE WAS GOING TO MAKE IT.

THEN LAST NIGHT SHE SAID, MS..

TAYLOR I MADE A WAY.

YOU KNOW, I FIGURED IT OUT.

KNOW THAT WE ARE COMMITTED.

WHEN GLORIA ASSIGNED HER AND ANITA ASSIGNED ME AND SOME OF OUR OTHER COLLEAGUES, WE WERE COMMITTED NOT JUST TO THE WORK, BUT TO THE STUDENTS.

SO I WANT TO GIVE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR LINDA ESSER, WHO IS A JUNIOR AT NORTH LAKE COLLEGE, A FEMALE WORKING IN CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT.

YAY! SHE WANTS TO DO CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT, BUT SHE'S BEEN WORKING IN CONSTRUCTION.

[02:20:03]

WE WILL HEAR FROM LINDA FIRST AND THEN WE WILL ALSO HEAR FROM MR KEVIN GUTIERREZ, WHO STARTED WITH US FROM INCEPTION FROM LAST FALL.

I'M SORRY, LAST SPRING, KEVIN STARTED WITH US IN FACILITIES.

KEVIN WAS COMMITTED TO BEING AT MOUNTAIN VIEW CAMPUS AT 5 A.M.

IN THE MORNING. I SAID, NOW, KEVIN, NOW LISTEN, I'M PROBABLY ON MY SECOND OR THIRD DRINK BY THEN.

BUT JUST THE FACT, JUST THE FACT THAT HE WAS SO ANXIOUS AND SO WILLING SPEAKS VOLUMES TO THIS PROGRAM.

SO I WILL GIVE LINDA A SPACE TO SPEAK ABOUT HER OPPORTUNITY.

SOME OF THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WERE GIVEN TO ME WHEN I STARTED THIS INTERNSHIP, I WAS VERY I WAS VERY, VERY, VERY SHY GIRL.

LIKE I COULDN'T SPEAK IN FRONT OF A BIG ROOM OF PEOPLE LIKE THIS.

AND BEING IN AN INTERNSHIP LIKE THIS, IT REALLY PUTS YOU ON THE SPOT BECAUSE IT'S LIKE IT TEACHES YOU SOMETHING.

IT TEACHES YOU SO MANY THINGS.

FOR EXAMPLE, YOU GET TO INTERACT WITH LIKE A WONDERFUL GROUP OF PEOPLE EVERY SINGLE DAY.

AND THIS ISN'T LIKE AN INTERNSHIP THAT YOU'RE JUST ON A COMPUTER OR LIKE JUST DOING WORK.

THIS IS AN INTERNSHIP THAT GIVES STUDENTS, LIKE YOU'RE ALWAYS CONSTANTLY ON YOUR TOES AND YOU'RE INTERACTING WITH A HUGE BUNCH OF PEOPLE AND IT'S LIKE, IT'S VERY AMAZING BECAUSE LIKE, I'M SORRY BECAUSE LIKE, EVERY SINGLE DAY YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO GET YOURSELF INTO.

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO GET YOURSELF INTO.

AND IT'S AMAZING BECAUSE LIKE I WAS TALKING TO ONE OF MY SUPERVISORS, HIS NAME IS MIKE FRY.

THE FIRST THING I INTERACTED WITH HIM, I GOT SO SCARED.

BUT HE'S VERY FRIENDLY, VERY NICE, VERY OPENING.

I FELT WELCOME LIKE, THIS IS WOW, THIS IS LIKE A FAMILY.

LIKE I THINK OF THIS INTERNSHIP, LIKE MY FAMILY.

AND IT'S HONESTLY REALLY AMAZING BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO THEY HELP YOU PROFESSIONALLY, YOU ALSO GET THAT RELATION WHERE THEY HELP YOU, LIKE WITH RESUMES AND MAYBE EVEN OUTSIDE PROBLEMS THAT YOU'RE DEALING WITH.

AND IT'S VERY, VERY NICE AND VERY, VERY OPENING.

AND I PERSONALLY REALLY, REALLY LOVE IT.

I LEARNED SO MUCH LIKE I LEARNED PROBLEM SKILLS, COMMUNICATION.

I LEARNED BASICALLY EVERYTHING I NEED TO KNOW TO BE OUT THERE IN THE REAL WORLD BECAUSE THIS ISN'T JUST LIKE, I WOULD SAY, LIKE SCHOOL.

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S VERY EXTRAORDINARY AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT HELPS YOU GO INTO THE REAL WORLD AND REALIZE LIKE, OH, THIS IS WHAT I'M GOING TO BE DOING IN THE FUTURE. AND IT'S VERY, VERY SCARY.

BUT I FIND IT LIKE VERY, VERY LIKE, IT'S JUST SO AMAZING AND I'M SO PREPARED NOW.

BECOME A CONSTRUCTION MANAGER OR A PLUMBER IN MY FUTURE.

HI. GOOD MORNING.

MY NAME IS KEVIN TORRES.

I AM A COLLEGIATE STUDENT AND JUSTIN KIMBALL HIGH SCHOOL.

I STARTED THIS INTERNSHIP SUMMER SPRING OF 2022.

I HAVE LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT.

IT'S BEEN VERY, VERY INTERESTING TO SAY THE LEAST.

YOU KNOW, I STILL REMEMBER MY FIRST DAY, A 17 YEAR OLD JOINING A BIG, BIG JOB AND MY FIRST DAY.

THERE'S TWO THINGS I'M SURE MANY OF Y'ALL WHEN Y'ALL WERE MY AGE, TWO THINGS ON YOUR MIND.

ONE, MAKE A GOOD IMPACT, MAKE A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION, AND TWO, DON'T MESS UP ON YOUR FIRST DAY.

SO MY FIRST DAY I LIKE TO SAY A SPECIAL SHOUTOUT TO MY SUPERVISOR, PAUL TRUSTEE.

HE WAS VERY NICE.

ALL MY COWORKERS. RIGHT NOW THEY'RE SUPER FRIENDLY.

I HAVE MADE GREAT CONNECTIONS IN THIS INDUSTRY AND, YOU KNOW, EVERY DAY NEW CHALLENGE.

I AM AN INTERN FOR ALL THE FACILITIES.

I DO PLUMBING, ELECTRICIAN WORK AND PAINTING.

SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S IT'S A STRUGGLE, ESPECIALLY ME BEING A STUDENT AT A HIGH SCHOOL COLLEGE AND ALSO HAVING A PART TIME JOB ON THE WEEKENDS.

YOU KNOW, IT'S CRAZY TO EVEN HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE.

AND I JUST LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR EVERYONE.

AND IT'S BEEN AN HONOR TO EVEN BE HERE RIGHT NOW IN THIS ROOM.

I WANTED CHRIS HARMON, WHO IS WITH FACILITIES, AND RODNEY BROOKS, WHO IS WITH OUR IT DEPARTMENT.

THEY ACTUALLY MANAGE THE SCHOLARS, AND I WANTED TO GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR FROM THEM ABOUT WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN LIKE AND FEEL FREE TO SHARE WHATEVER YOU LIKE.

YEAH, IT HAS BEEN GREAT.

AND I KNOW WHEN I CAME IN INITIALLY ON IT, SCOTT KIND OF PULLED ME IN.

I DID ALL THE INTERVIEWS AND.

SOME A LOT OF THEM ALL RUN TOGETHER UNTIL I HEAR HIM TALK.

BUT YEAH, AND IT'S ONE OF THE THINGS I WAS REAL IMPRESSED TOO.

THEY DID ALL COME REALLY PREPARED.

SO WHOEVER WAS PREPARING THEM ON THE BACK, YOU'RE WELCOME.

THE FRONT END WAS DOING A GREAT JOB.

[02:25:03]

AND I DO. I GET A LOT OF FEEDBACK FROM THE CAMPUSES ON ON THE GREAT THINGS THEY DO.

AND PART OF ONE OF THE THINGS I TRY TO DO IS PUT THEM WITH WHEN THEY COME INTERVIEW, OKAY, I KNOW WHAT CAMPUS THEY NEED TO GO TO BECAUSE WHAT'S CLOSEST TO THE SCHOOL THEY'RE GOING TO. AND THEN I'M TRYING TO FIND THAT.

MIKE FRY AND THAT ALL YOUR AT THE CAMPUS WHO NOT ONLY, YOU KNOW, WILL KIND OF SUPERVISE THEM, BUT MENTOR THEM, PUT THEM IN THE RIGHT, THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

AND ACTUALLY ALL MY YOU KNOW, PROBABLY TWO OF THE, YOU KNOW, REALLY BETTER PEOPLE WE'VE GOT TO PUT THEM WITH.

SO BUT IT'S BEEN GREAT.

I DO HEAR A LOT OF GREAT THINGS FROM FROM THE STUDENTS SUCCESS.

AND I JUST WANT TO ECHO A LOT OF HIS THOUGHTS.

I WORK WITH A CAMPUS AND I'M LIAISON FOR ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES.

SO WE HAVE THEM AT OUR SEVEN CAMPUSES.

AND WE'VE BEEN VERY, VERY PLEASED WITH THE PERFORMANCE AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE.

SO THEY FEEL THE NEED FOR BOTH OF US.

AND WE SEE THIS AS AN EXTENSION OF THE COLLEGE'S MISSION TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR STUDENTS.

GREAT WORK. GREAT WORK.

YOU KNOW, THE GIS PROGRAM, WE'VE HEARD OF THAT PROGRAM THAT THE GRADUATES WHO GET TO DO THE WORK PROGRAM THROUGH THAT PROGRAM THAT YOU'RE USING TO DO OUR WORK, THEIR STARTING SALARY, ANNUAL SALARY IS UP $20,000 MORE, HAVING TWO YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

AND I'M GREG THOMAS. I'M A SENIOR AT THE COLLEGE SERVICES FOR THE COLLEGE.

I BASICALLY HANDLE ALL ALL CAMPUS LOCATIONS.

THAT'S ALL SUPPORT AB SUPPORT.

SO ANY THINGS YOU NEED TO SUPPORT YOUR SERVICES IN YOUR OFFICE AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

SO WHEN THESE STUDENTS COME TO US AND ACTUALLY I WAS ALSO WORKING WITH A STUDENT IN MY COLLEGE WORK.

SO WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH AND THEY SHOW UP.

SO BASICALLY WHEN WE COME IN AND LEARN SOMETHING AND TAKE THOSE SKILLS AND BE ABLE TO USE THOSE SKILLS WHEN THEY GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE.

ONE OF THE THINGS I TALK TO MY GROUP ABOUT ONCE WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT COLLECTING, SHE SAID, YOU'RE COMING.

WAS IT? BASICALLY WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE NOT GO.

I WANT TO BE SURE THAT THEY'RE LEARNING THE SAME THINGS THAT YOU'RE LEARNING SO THAT WHEN YOU WANT TO TAKE A VACATION, I HAVE SUPPORT FOLKS GOT BOTH SERVICES.

SO IN ORDER FOR US TO PROVIDE SERVICES TO YOU TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE QUALIFIED STAFF TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR NEEDS, I GET IN TROUBLE A LOT OF TIMES BECAUSE I LIKE A PLAYER.

B PLAYERS AND C PLAYERS.

SO WHAT DOES A C PLAYER? C PLAYER WOULD PROBABLY BE ONE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COMING IN.

WE'RE TEACHING THEM ALL THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO DO THE JOB OF B PLAYERS.

GOING TO BE THAT PERSON WHO, YOU KNOW, PUT UP WITH THEIR DOG AND PUNISH THEM.

AT THIS POINT, SHE WOULD BE A B PLAYER OR A PLAYER.

THE WAY SHE SPEAKS, EXCUSE ME FOR VOICE, BUT BOTTOM LINE IS I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THEY CAME IN TO US, THAT WHEN THEY LEAVE US, THEY'RE QUALIFIED TO WORK EITHER FOR US, HOPEFULLY.

YES. OR THEY CAN GET A POSITION SOMEPLACE ELSE.

SO OUR BOTTOM LINE IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE TRAIN THEM SO THAT WHEN THEY STEP OUT INTO THE WORK WORLD, THEY'RE READY TO GO.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.

I JUST WANT TO SAY REAL QUICK, A COUPLE OF THE GRADUATING SENIORS, WE ARE OFFERING FULL TIME POSITIONS TO COMING UP HERE PRETTY SOON.

SO. YOU DO? WELL, THAT IS ALL WE HAVE.

I THINK WE'RE GOING TO DO A PICTURE.

AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION.

THANK YOU. GREAT PROGRAM, GREAT PRESENTATION.

STUDENTS, YOU'RE ALREADY MILES AHEAD OF YOUR PEERS.

GREAT JOB. JUST REMEMBER, I KNOW.

I'M SO SORRY. I'M JUST TRYING NOT TO CRY.

SO WHAT DO WE DO? WHERE? THERE WERE.
