IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER 5.51 OF THE TEXAS OPEN MEETINGS ACT, I CALL TO ORDER THE EDUCATION WORKFORCE COMMITTEE, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF DALLAS COLLEGE ON APRIL THE 4TH AT

[1. Roll Call - Announcement of a Quorum]

[00:00:10]

3:15 P.M.

MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC WHO CAN FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF THE DALLAS COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WEBSITE OR REGISTERING TO SPEAK TO THE PUBLIC COMMENT WILL BE GIVEN FIVE MINUTES.

THE EDUCATION WORKFORCE COMMITTEE IS BEING BROADCAST OVER THE INTERNET.

AN AUDIO RECORDING AND TRANSCRIPT OF THIS MEETING ARE BEING MADE AND WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC ON THE BOARD'S WEBSITE.

I'VE TO BE CHANCELLOR, WILL YOU PLEASE CONFIRM THIS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW?

[2. Certification of Notice Posted for the Meeting]

MR. CHAIR, I HAVE BEEN CERTIFIED.

THIS MEETING WAS POSTED ACCORDING TO SECTION 5514054 OF TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE.

THAT'S WHY. DO WE HAVE ANY MRS? NO. NO ONE HAS SIGNED UP FOR THIS MEETING, SIR.

OKAY. I WANT TO THANK THE BOARD'S PATIENCE AND PERSEVERANCE.

WE'VE HAD A BUSY DAY, BUT THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PRESENTATION THAT DEALS WITH ONE OF THE KEY AREAS THAT WE WERE JUST DISCUSSING IN TERMS OF STUDENT PERSISTENCE AND MAKING A

[4.1. Success Coaching: Making a Difference]

DIFFERENCE. AND SO WE'RE GOING TO HEAR A PRESENTATION ON HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE, AND WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM FOLKS THAT ARE NOSE TO NOSE WITH OUR STUDENTS.

SO, DR.

STILLS, THIS IS YOUR SHOW.

OKAY. WHERE ARE YOU? OVER. WELL, THANK YOU.

AND I WANT TO DEFINITELY MAKE SURE I START OUT BY ACKNOWLEDGING DR.

JOSEPH HERE TO GIVE YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE.

BRAVO. TRUSTEE.

CHATEAU-LANDON. WE ARE DELIGHTED TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY THIS AFTERNOON TO SHARE WITH YOU THE IMPACT SUCCESS COACHING IS HAVING ON OUR STUDENTS.

THIS BOARD REINVESTED $10 MILLION IN STUDENT SUCCESS TO HELP US STAND UP THE LEARNER PEER MODEL AND SUCCESS COACHING IS A CRITICAL PIECE OF THAT MODEL.

WHAT YOU WILL HEAR TODAY IS YOUR THE RETURN ON THAT INVESTMENT.

SO I WILL LET DR.

SKEELS SHARE OUR STORY.

WELL, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

CHAIR BRAVO CHAIR, COMMITTEE CHAIR, MAYOR AND TO ALL OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND TO CHANCELLOR RONNEN.

THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE ON BEHALF OF THE GOOD WORK OF THE STUDENT SUCCESS TEAM.

AND SO I WILL GO AHEAD AND GET STARTED WITH JUST SHOWING WHERE THE SUCCESS COACHING UNIT FALLS WITHIN OUR ORGANIZATION.

MY ROLE AS THE ASSOCIATE VICE CHANCELLOR FOR STUDENT SUCCESS REPORTS TO DR.

JOSEPH, OUR VICE CHANCELLOR.

AND IT IS ONE OF FIVE AREAS THAT REPORT TO ME.

JUST TO GIVE YOU A SENSE OF THE STAFFING SUCCESS, COACHING IS ONE OF THE LARGEST UNITS WITHIN OUR ORGANIZATION.

IT HAS 13 ADMINISTRATORS, SOME OF WHICH YOU'LL GET A CHANCE TO MEET AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION TODAY.

235 SUCCESS COACHES, ALSO SOME OF WHICH YOU'LL GET TO MEET AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION TODAY.

AND ONE CSI COORDINATOR.

OUR OPERATING BUDGET.

OH, I'M SORRY. I'M CURIOUS.

YOU'VE GOT 13 ADMINISTRATORS INVOLVED FOR 235 POSITIONS.

THAT KIND OF SEEMS LIKE A LARGE NUMBER OF ADMINISTRATORS.

WHAT AM I NOT UNDERSTANDING IN THAT RATIO? 13 AND SO WHAT IT IS, IS THAT WE HAVE DIVIDED IT'S ABOUT 20 SUCCESS COACHES ASSIGNED PER ASSOCIATE DEAN APPROXIMATELY. AND SO THAT ALSO INCLUDES ONE.

DEAN SO THERE'S ONE THING AND THEN 12 ASSOCIATE DEANS THAT REPORT TO THE ONE DEAN AND SO AMONGST THOSE 12 ASSOCIATE DEANS, THEY MANAGE TEAMS OF ABOUT 20 TEAMS. THANK YOU.

YOU'RE WELCOME. AND SO THE OPERATING BUDGET, NOT INCLUDING THE LABOR, IS AROUND $175,000.

AND ALL OF OUR WORK ALIGNS WITH THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES CENTERED ON STREAMLINING AND SUPPORT AND NAVIGATION TO AND THROUGH COLLEGE AND BEYOND.

SO WE WANT TO BE REALLY INTENTIONAL TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ALIGNED WITH THE BOARD'S STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.

ESSER SACHSE THIS NUMBER OF SUCCESS COACHES, HOW MANY STUDENTS PER SUCCESS COACH? I KNOW WE'RE SHORT OF SUCCESS COACHES, SO I EXPECT A BIG NUMBER, BUT I JUST.

WELL, THE, THE TRUTH IS IT VARIES DEPENDING ON THE STUDENT TYPE, BUT ON AVERAGE IT'S AROUND 350 TO 400 STUDENTS PER SUCCESS. COACH IS THE CASELOAD AND THAT THAT IS THAT'S THAT'S NOT INCLUSIVE OF STUDENTS WHO ARE ALSO TRYING TO REENGAGE.

SO THERE ARE OTHER STUDENTS ON THEIR CASELOADS THAT MAY NOT.

HE ACTIVELY ENROLLED, BUT THEY STILL ARE PART OF THE STUDENTS THAT WE ARE TRYING TO OUTREACH TO, BUT THEY'RE NOT CURRENTLY ENROLLED.

THEY REMAIN ON THE CASELOAD FOR A YEAR, EVEN IF THEY THEY EXIT OUT.

AND ISN'T THAT THE NORM? ABOUT 350 TO 1.

AND BEFORE WE USED TO BE ABOUT 700 OR 800 TO ONE.

OH, YEAH. OR MORE OR MORE.

THERE USED TO BE IT USED TO BE AT SOME CAMPUSES OVER 1000 TO 1 RATIO.

AND SO PART OF THE REORGANIZATION AND THUS SHIFTING TO ONE COLLEGE REALLY ALLOWED FOR US TO GET TO THAT CLOSER, THAT MORE MANAGEABLE CASELOAD NUMBER. WE ALMOST DOUBLED THE NUMBER OF SUCCESS COACHES THAT WE HAD IN THE OLD MODEL.

[00:05:01]

WE HAD AROUND 130 ADVISORS ACROSS ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS.

NOW WE'RE UP TO 235 WITH THE CAPACITY TO HIRE FIVE MORE.

SO WE'RE GOING TO GET UP TO 240 AND THAT REALLY HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE OUTCOMES THAT I'M GOING TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT LATER.

WELL, AND THOSE THAT WERE ON THE BOARD AT THE TIME, WE WERE.

REMEMBER THAT THAT WAS A CONCERN WE EXPRESSED AND CERTAINLY PROVIDED THE RESOURCES TO BE ABLE TO DIMINISH THAT CASELOAD.

SO IT'S MORE MANAGEABLE AND WE REALLY MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE STUDENTS.

ABSOLUTELY. WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT THE COMMITMENT OF THE BOARD AND THE REINVESTMENT OF THOSE DOLLARS.

AND SO THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT TODAY.

MOST EXCITINGLY TO ME ARE THE THE SUCCESS OUTCOMES.

AND THEN YOU'LL ACTUALLY GET A CHANCE TO HEAR FROM THE VOICES OF SOME OF OUR STUDENTS AND A COUPLE OF OUR SUCCESS COACHES.

AND SO, AGAIN, THIS IS A SLIDE WE'VE SHOWN YOU A FEW TIMES, RIGHT? EVERY TIME YOU SEE THE SLIDE, IT'S KIND OF LIKE, OH, THAT'S A LOT.

AND I THINK WHAT THIS REPRESENTS IS JUST IT DOES IT TAKES A LOT FOR US TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS RIGHT IN A NUMBER OF AREAS.

AND THE RED AREA AND RED ARROW REALLY SHOWS THE AREA THAT WE'RE HIGHLIGHTING TODAY, WHICH IS THE SUCCESS.

COACH AND SO I'LL GO A LITTLE BIT DEEPER INTO THAT JUST A LITTLE BIT.

THIS IT'S BEEN ABOUT A YEAR SINCE I CAME TO YOU LAST TO TALK ABOUT SUCCESS COACHING.

SO THIS IS JUST A REFRESHER TO SHARE THAT WE BORROWED FROM THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY AND THAT THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY SHIFTED AWAY FROM THIS NOTION OF A SINGLE CARE PROVIDER TO MORE OF A TEAM CARE APPROACH.

AND SO WE UTILIZE THAT AS A BASIS.

ONE OF THE CONCEPTUAL KIND OF CONCEPTS THAT HELPED US TO CREATE THE LEARNER CARE MODEL, AND THAT'S WHAT THE SUCCESS COACH ROLE DOES.

IT SERVES AS THE PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER FOR OUR STUDENTS, CONNECTING THEM TO THE SPECIALISTS THAT INCLUDE A NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL SERVICES THAT ARE AVAILABLE ACROSS THE COLLEGE.

AND THAT'S KIND OF WHAT THIS THIS PICTURE DEPICTS.

THE STUDENT IS AT THE CENTER THE SUCCESS COACH SERVING AS THE.

PRIMARY CARE PROVIDER IS CLOSELY ALIGNED, CONNECTING THE STUDENT TO A VARIETY OF RESOURCES THAT SURROUND THEM.

AND SO JUST TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS THAT ADDED TO OUR CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK, THE COMPLETION BY DESIGN LOSS AND MOMENTUM FRAMEWORK IS THE KIND OF THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK THAT UNDERGIRDS GUIDED PATHWAYS.

AND WHAT IT ESSENTIALLY DOES IS LOOK AT THE ENTIRE STUDENT JOURNEY FROM THE POINT IN WHICH THEY CONNECT ALL THE WAY UNTIL THEY COMPLETE A CREDENTIAL AND THEN TRANSITION EITHER INTO THE FOUR YEAR OR INTO EMPLOYMENT.

AND THE IDEA IS THAT ALONG EACH POINT OF THAT CONTINUUM THAT WE PREVENT LOSS OF STUDENTS AND MAXIMIZE THEIR MOMENTUM.

AND SO EVERYTHING THAT WE DO HAS THIS FRAMEWORK IN MIND AS WE DEVELOP PROGRAMING AND INTERVENTION STRATEGIES AND THOSE KINDS OF EFFORTS. SO BASICALLY THIS IS LIKE AN ACTION PLAN.

IT IS. IT IS.

IT GIVES US A FRAMEWORK TO SAY, OKAY, FOR EXAMPLE, WE.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

NOW, I GUESS IT'S BEEN ABOUT A WEEK AGO WITH OUR ENTIRE TEAM.

AND WHAT WE DID WAS WE SAT DOWN AND LOOKED AT EACH ONE OF THESE MOMENTUM POINTS AND WE SAID, OKAY, WHEN WE'RE CONNECTING WITH STUDENTS, WHAT ARE THE PRIORITIES THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON TO BETTER CONNECT WITH STUDENTS VERSUS THE TRANSITION PIECE? WHAT ARE THE STRATEGIES THAT WE WANT TO FOCUS ON FOR IT? SO IT'S KIND OF GUARDRAILS AND GUIDELINES TO HELP INFORM THE SPECIFICS OF OUR WORK.

YOU'RE WELCOME. AND SO THIS IS WHAT THIS KIND OF LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE.

SUCCESS COACHES DO A LOT OF THINGS THAT I THINK A LOT OF TIMES WE THINK QUICKLY TO REGISTRATION AND THEY CERTAINLY DO HELP WITH REGISTRATION, BUT THEY DO SO MUCH MORE, INCLUDING HELPING STUDENTS TO CHOOSE A PATHWAY, ENGAGE THEM IN SUCCESS PLANNING, CERTAINLY HELPING THEM TO REGISTER, BUT ALSO DOING SOME INTENSE CASE MANAGEMENT WHERE THEIR PROGRESS MONITORING AND ENSURING THAT WE'RE DOING TIMELY INTERVENTIONS BASED ON WHAT THE STUDENT NEEDS AS AN INDIVIDUAL.

QUESTION YES.

SO I DON'T KNOW, DR.

JOSEPH, YOU MIGHT REMEMBER OR IF YOU WERE EVEN HERE AT THAT TIME WHEN WE GOT THE DATA THAT STUDENTS WERE EXITING US WITH AN AVERAGE OF 90 CREDIT HOURS, WHICH WAS WAY MORE THAN WHAT THEY NEEDED.

AND THAT ONE OF THE REASONS WAS BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KNOW.

THEY WALKED IN NOT KNOWING, NOT KNOWING THE DEGREE PLAN, ETCETERA, ETCETERA, WHICH WAS ANOTHER REASON WE WENT TO SUCCESS COACHES.

SO HAVE WE LOOKED AT THE DATA? DO WE KNOW THE STUDENTS THAT ARE EXITING US NOW, THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS THAT THEY'RE EXITING WITH? I DON'T HAVE THAT DATA. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.

WE ARE USING THAT.

IN BUILDING OUR ENTIRE STRATEGIC ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT PLAN TO TO USE THAT AS A KPI TO COME BACK AND MEASURE FOR YOU.

I DON'T HAVE THE NUMBER HERE WITH ME TODAY, BUT WE ARE THE.

TEXAS ARMY ALSO TRACKS THAT.

LEVEL SO I CAN PROVIDE IT TO YOU.

AS A FOLLOW UP, PLEASE.

I WILL, BECAUSE THAT'S A DATA POINT FOR US TO DETERMINE IF WE'VE MADE PROGRESS OR NOT.

[00:10:01]

ABSOLUTELY. SO JUST SO THAT YOU'RE AWARE, WE THE WAY THAT WE HAVE OUR SUCCESS COACH UNIT ORGANIZED IS BY STUDENT TYPE.

AND THE REASON WHY WE DO IT THIS WAY SO THAT A STUDENT ONCE THEY.

ARE ASSIGNED SUCCESS COACH THAT SUCCESS COACH STAYS WITH THEM.

THEY REMAIN. THEM THROUGHOUT THEIR JOURNEY.

WHETHER THE STUDENT CHOOSES A DIFFERENT PATHWAY OR NOT, THE COACH STILL REMAINS WITH THEM.

AND SO WE'RE ORGANIZED BY TRADITIONAL AND TRADITIONAL REALLY INCLUDES ALL STUDENT POPULATIONS OUTSIDE OF THESE OTHERS.

SO WE HAVE SUCCESS COACHES THAT FOCUS ON OUR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS.

WE HAVE SUCCESS COACHES THAT FOCUS ON STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN CONTINUING EDUCATION PATHWAYS, AND THEN WE HAVE SPECIAL POPULATIONS AND THAT'S ABOUT 12 SPECIAL AREAS.

SOME OF THEM INCLUDE AREAS LIKE STUDENT ATHLETES, DACA STUDENTS, OUR EUROPE PROGRAM AND OUR BACHELOR'S DEGREE FOR WITHIN THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION AS AN EXAMPLE, OUR HOURS OF OPERATION.

WE'RE OPEN FROM 8 A.M.

TO MIDNIGHT. AND I REALLY WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THAT BECAUSE THAT IS A REAL FEATHER IN DALLAS COLLEGE'S CAP.

JUST THIS WEEK I DID A PRESENTATION SHARING ABOUT OUR SERVICES UNTIL MIDNIGHT, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHER INSTITUTIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY WHO ARE ASKING US HOW WE DO THAT.

WHAT DOES THAT WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL? AND SO I JUST WANT TO GIVE KUDOS AGAIN TO THE BOARD FOR REALLY HELPING TO REINVEST IN OUR.

THAT HELPS US TO REALLY CREATE MORE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO STUDENTS WHO BENEFIT FROM THAT EVEN TEAM, AS OPPOSED TO HAVING TO TRY TO FIGURE OUT HOW THEY CAN MAKE IT WORK BETWEEN 8 AND 5. SO WHAT ARE YOU FINDING ON YOUR, SAY, VIRTUAL DURING THE DAY VIRTUES YOUR IN PERSON DURING THE DAY.

WHAT'S THE SITUATION? YOU KNOW, WE DO HAVE THOSE NUMBERS AND SOME OF THE NUMBERS, THE EVENING INFORMATION I'M GOING TO BE SHARED DURING THE PRESENTATION RIGHT NOW.

WHAT WE'RE FINDING IS THAT MORE STUDENTS ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF VIRTUAL SERVICES, PERIOD, THAT THEY THEY LIKE THE FLEXIBILITY OF IT BECAUSE THEY CAN DO THINGS LIKE GET IN LINE VIRTUALLY WITHOUT HAVING TO PHYSICALLY, YOU KNOW, BE IN A SPACE AND WAIT.

THEY. WAIT ONLINE AND THEN, YOU KNOW, AVAIL THEMSELVES OF THE SERVICES AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE WITHOUT TIME OF THEIR SCHEDULE.

SO THAT'S REALLY FINDING.

YOU'RE WELCOME. I'M JUST SO THAT THIS IS THE INFORMATION, THE CAMPUS LOCATIONS JUST SO THAT YOU HAVE THAT AVAILABLE TO KNOW WHERE THE SUCCESS COACHES ARE.

AND AGAIN, AS I MENTIONED, THE EVENING TEAM HAS A VIRTUAL LINE THAT STUDENTS CAN ENTER IN AND GET THAT SUPPORT UNTIL MIDNIGHT.

JUST WANTED TO QUICKLY NOTE, BECAUSE WE ALWAYS WANT TO BE CONSCIENTIOUS OF OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR OUR SUCCESS COACHING TEAM.

WE HAVE 100 HOURS OF TRAINING DESIGNED TO ONBOARD SUCCESS COACHES.

IT'S DESIGNED FOR THAT TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN THREE MONTHS, AND THAT'S VERY INTENTIONAL SO THAT THEY CAN ONBOARD WITHIN THE FIRST 90 DAYS AND REALLY BE EQUIPPED TO HAVE WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR THEM TO START OUT DOING THEIR JOB.

AND IF YOU NOTICE, A LOT OF THE THE CONTENT IS ALIGNED WITH THE GUIDED PATHWAY PRINCIPLES THAT ARE LISTED THERE.

YES. SO IN THE 100 HOURS OF TRAINING AND ONBOARDING, DO THEY RECEIVE A CHEAT SHEET ON THE ACRONYMS FOR THE COURSES LIKE P OF T AND C, ETCETERA? AND THE REASON I'M ASKING THAT IS BECAUSE I WAS GIVEN A SUCCESS COACH TO TALK TO AND SHE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE ACRONYM WAS FOR THE PARTICULAR COURSE I WAS LOOKING FOR.

YOU KNOW, I DON'T KNOW IF THAT IS A PART OF THE OF THE ONBOARDING HERE, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THAT THIS IS NOT EXHAUSTIVE OF THE TRAINING THAT SUCCESS COACHES RECEIVE OVER THE THE YEAR.

AND WE HAVE RECEIVED THAT FEEDBACK PREVIOUSLY AND HAVE PROVIDED ADDITIONAL MATERIALS THAT ARE HOUSED IN A UNIFIED PLACE WHERE STUDENTS CAN SUCCESS TO GET THOSE RUBRICS SO THAT THEY HAVE THAT INFORMATION READILY AVAILABLE TO BE ABLE TO PROPERLY SUPPORT A STUDENT.

AND THIS IS NOT IN THE AREA, BUT DR.

JOSEPH, HAVE YOU ALL DO YOU ALL HAVE ONLINE WHERE STUDENTS CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE ACRONYM MEANS FOR THE COURSE THAT IS ON THE WEBSITE CATALOG? I FEEL LIKE WE HAVE MADE THOSE UPDATES.

WE MADE THE UPDATE THE LAST TIME THAT YOU MENTIONED THAT.

I THINK BRAD AND HIS TEAM WORKED ON MAKING SURE THAT IT WAS SPELLED OUT BECAUSE PART OF THE PROBLEM IS THAT PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE WHAT THE INITIALS MEAN. WE HAVE IT.

AND WHAT I'LL DO IS FOLLOW UP WITH THOSE LINKS TO SHOW YOU WHERE WE MADE THOSE IMPROVEMENTS.

OKAY. MAY I ASK YOU A QUESTION? YES. ARE WE HIRED THEM? AND HOW MUCH TRAINING DID THEY GET BEFORE THEY'RE ACTUALLY ASSIGNED TO SOME STUDENTS? SO GREAT QUESTION.

SO THE THE DESIGN OF THE TRAINING IS PROGRESSIVE IN NATURE, KIND OF A WE DO TOGETHER.

YOU OBSERVE FIRST, THEN WE THEN THEY'RE KIND OF PAIRED WITH A SHADOWING EXPERIENCE WITH THE ANOTHER MORE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE COACH.

[00:15:04]

AND THEN THEY ARE RELEASED TO KIND OF SUPPORT THE STUDENTS ON THEIR OWN.

SO THAT'S A PART OF THE DESIGN OF THIS 100 HOURS IS TO KIND OF DO GRADUAL RELEASE AS THEY LEARN THE INFORMATION.

OKAY. AND SO GETTING TO THE GOOD PART, THE OUTCOMES.

AND SO I WANT TO SHARE THAT THIS IS JUST FOR FALL 2022, THE SHEER VOLUME OF OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS THAT THE SUCCESS COACHING TEAM HAS TOUCHED, I THINK IS REALLY COMMENDABLE.

OVER 86,358 STUDENTS WERE SERVED.

AND WHEN WE LOOK UNDUPLICATED, IT'S MORE THAN 68,000 STUDENTS.

AND SO I REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I'M BRINGING FORWARD THAT OUR STUDENTS, OUR SUCCESS COACHES ARE DOING HARD WORK AND WHAT I OFTEN REFER TO AS HARD WORK, AND THAT WE'RE TRYING TO SPEAK TO EVERY STUDENT THAT COMES TO OUR DOORS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE HEARD AND THAT WE CAN SERVE THEM IN THE BEST WAYS THAT THAT ARE APPLICABLE TO THEM AND EVEN SUPPORTING THAT LARGE VOLUME OF STUDENTS WE'VE MAINTAINED.

1% SATISFACTION RATE AMONGST STUDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN SURVEYED.

WE'VE ADDED GETTING FEEDBACK FROM THE BOARD.

WE'VE MADE ADJUSTMENTS TO HOW STUDENTS CAN GET THAT FEEDBACK IN EVERY SIGNATURE LINE.

SUCCESS COACHES HAVE A LINK THAT SAYS, HOW ARE WE DOING SO THAT STUDENTS CAN RESPOND IN THAT WAY? WE'RE ADDING QR CODES IN THE OFFICES SO THAT STUDENTS CAN EASILY SCAN AND RESPOND TO THOSE PIECES.

WE'VE CREATED A SPACE WHERE THEY CAN CHANGE THEIR SUCCESS COACH BY A LINK.

IF THEY DON'T FEEL LIKE THEIR SUCCESS COACH IS A GOOD FIT, THEY CAN MAKE A REQUEST TO MAKE THOSE CHANGES.

SO WE'VE TRIED TO BE REALLY RESPONSIVE TO THE FEEDBACK THAT WE'VE GOTTEN.

WE'VE ALSO PARTNERED WITH OUR ACADEMIC COLLEAGUES, FACULTY HAVE.

IN BEING VERY OPEN TO ALLOWING SUCCESS COACHES TO COME INTO THE CLASSROOM.

AND SO WE'VE CONDUCTED OVER 108 VISITS, REACHED OVER 1000 STUDENTS IN THOSE VISITS.

AND OF THOSE STUDENTS TOUCHED, 72% OF THEM REGISTERED FOR SPRING.

AND SO WE'VE IDENTIFIED. OF IT AS A PROMISING PRACTICE THAT WE WANT TO EXPAND MOVING FORWARD.

SO THE PURPOSE OF THOSE CLASSROOM VISITS IS BASICALLY TO JUST LET THEM KNOW ABOUT THE SERVICE AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO REACH OUT.

IT IS IT'S TO EXPLAIN THE ROLE OF THE SUCCESS COACH.

WE SHARE HOW THEY CAN MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEIR SUCCESS COACH.

WE TELL THEM ABOUT THEIR DALLAS COLLEGE EMAIL.

THERE'S A COMMON CURRICULUM OF FIVE KIND OF COMMON THINGS THAT EVERY SUCCESS COACH THAT GOES AND PRESENTS, THEY COVER THE SAME MATERIAL.

DO YOU ALL BY CHANCE HAVE A VIDEO ON THE WEBSITE ABOUT THE ROLE OF THE SUCCESS COACH? SO WE HAVE WE HAVE VIDEOS AS WELL.

WE HAVE VIDEOS THAT ARE STUDENT FACING.

WE HAVE VIDEOS THAT ARE FACULTY FACING THAT ARE INTERNAL ON SHAREPOINT SO THAT WE CAN RELAY THE MESSAGE OF WHAT THE ROLE IS.

THANKS. YOU'RE WELCOME.

AND SO AGAIN, WE SHOWING TALKING ABOUT MAKING A DIFFERENCE, RIGHT? WE FOUND IN OUR RESEARCH THAT STUDENTS WHO VISIT WITH THE SUCCESS COACH AT LEAST ONE TIME.

I HAVE A 17% HIGHER PERSISTENCE RATE COMPARED WITH STUDENTS WHO DO NOT VISIT WITH SUCCESS COACHING.

AND WHAT WE FOUND IS THAT THE MORE OFTEN A STUDENT MEETS WITH A SUCCESS COACH, IF THEY MEET TWICE OR MORE, THE PERSISTENCE JUMPS TO 30%.

AND SO USING THIS DATA, WE ARE GOING TO SHIFT IN THE FILE TO REQUIRING OUR FIRST TIME IN COLLEGE STUDENTS TO MEET WITH A SUCCESS COACH SO THAT WE'RE NOT LEAVING THEIR SUCCESS TO CHANCE.

SO CURRENTLY THE WAY IT'S DONE, WHAT PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF MEETING WITH THE SUCCESS COACH AT LEAST ONCE? YOU KNOW, I DON'T HAVE. NUMBER OF HOW MANY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT VERSUS NOT.

YOU HAVE THE NUMBER THAT WAS IN THE FILE I HAVE FOR THE FILE.

I DON'T HAVE IT FOR CURRENTLY, BUT I HAVE IT FOR WHAT OCCURRED IN FILE.

DO THE MAJORITY OF OUR STUDENTS TAKE ADVANTAGE? A LARGE NUMBER, YES.

AND THAT'S ACTUALLY WHAT YOU SEE HERE.

AND I MADE SURE TO PUT THE THE NUMBER THERE IN ADDITION TO THE PERCENTAGE SO THAT YOU COULD SEE THE VOLUME OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE IMPACTED.

SO WHAT YOU SEE HERE ON THE SCREEN ESSENTIALLY IS PERSISTENCE.

AND SO THE BLUE BAR IS SHOWING THE THE STUDENTS WHO DIDN'T ENGAGE WITH THE SUCCESS COACH IN FALL 22 TO SPRING 22.

RIGHT. AND WHAT HAPPENS IS IN THE THE ONES THAT ARE DEPICTED IN THE ORANGE BAR SHOW ONE POINT.

DALLAS WITH THE GRAY BAR SHOW TWICE TO APPOINTMENTS OR MORE.

AND. THIS IS DISAGGREGATED BY STUDENT TYPE.

SO NO MATTER WHAT TYPE OF STUDENT IT IS, WHETHER IT'S CONTINUING FIRST TERM IN COLLEGE, DUAL CREDIT CHARTER SUCCESS COACHING HAS A POSITIVE IMPACT ACROSS ALL STUDENT TYPES.

AND WHEN WE LOOK FURTHER, WHEN WE DISAGGREGATED BY GENDER, THIS FIRST GROUPING HERE KIND OF SHOWS THIS IS THE FIRST GROUP, THE BLUE SHOWS THE STUDENTS THAT IDENTIFY AS FEMALE.

THE ORANGE ARE STUDENTS WHO IDENTIFY AS MALE.

[00:20:01]

AND SO THE FIRST GROUP OF.

ANY SUCCESS COACHING THE SAME GROUP.

ONE APPOINTMENT IN THE LAST GROUP TO THE FAR RIGHT OF THE.

THAT HAD MORE THAN ONE APPOINTMENT.

AND SO AS YOU CAN SEE THE NUMBERS, WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT 50 STUDENTS.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS WHO WERE RETAINED.

SO THEY'RE STILL NOT TOUCHING THE THE HOW MANY DO WE HAVE IN, FOR EXAMPLE, THE FALL SEMESTER? IS IT 50, 75, 80 STUDENTS? WE'RE STILL NOT TOUCHING THE GREATER AMOUNT.

SO YOU SAID THAT YOU'RE GOING TO MAKE IT A REQUIREMENT TO AT LEAST HAVE ONE SESSION WITH THE SUCCESS COACH OR COLLEGE STUDENTS.

YES. OKAY. SO NOT FOR CONTINUING, ED, NOT FOR WORKFORCE.

I MEAN, DOES IT CUT ACROSS ALL THOSE CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS OR JUST ON THE CREDIT SIDE? WELL, FOR FIRST TIME IN COLLEGE, IT WOULD BE CREDIT.

IT WOULD BE CREDIT OR CONTINUING EDUCATION.

FIRST TIME IF THEY'RE FIRST TIME, WHICHEVER PATHWAY THEY WANTED TO TAKE, THAT WOULD IMPACT THEM.

BUT BUT WE STARTED WITH ETHICS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE.

WELL, WHEN YOU SAY YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.

AND MADE SURE THAT THAT WAS MANAGEABLE AND THAT WE COULD ACTUALLY DEPLOY THAT IN A REAL WAY VERSUS EVERY STUDENT POPULATION.

WE WANTED TO DO IT WELL AND START WITH THAT GROUP FIRST, THE GROUP THAT'LL BE IN THE FALL, IN THE FALL.

SO THE QUESTION BECOMES, AS WE GET INTO BUDGET BUILD UP, DO WE NEED TO PUT IN MORE FUNDING TO TO DECREASE THAT CASELOAD TO 1 TO 350 ARE THE 1 TO 400.

THAT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED NOW, BUT I WISH I WOULD LOOK AT THAT.

YEAH, EXPECT MORE ON THAT AND THEN OUR STRATEGY AS WELL AROUND HOW WE DO SOME OF THE INITIAL ENGAGEMENT WITH THE STUDENTS BEFORE WE GET INTO THE THE DEPTH OF WHAT THE SUCCESS COACHES DO.

WE'RE WORKING ON STRATEGIES AROUND THOSE AND THERE'S THERE'S AN INVESTMENT THERE.

WELL, IT IS GOOD TO SEE THAT, YOU KNOW, HOW MANY YEARS ARE WE INTO THIS NOW TO TO COMPLETE OR THREE.

WELL WELL IT'S A THE SOUND OF HIGHER ESSER 235 PEOPLE.

SO DRINK AND TRAIN.

SO WE REALLY. GNAGE ROBUSTLY INVOLVED.

22 WHICH IS WHY THIS DATA IS RELEVANT FOR FALL TO SPRING RETENTION TRULY DEPICTS HIRED AND TRAINED TEAM MEMBERS, WHICH IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO PRODUCE. IT'S GOOD TO SEE THAT YOU'RE ANALYZING AND FROM THAT WHAT THE DATA IS TELLING YOU.

THEY'RE MAKING DECISIONS TO HOPEFULLY BETTER ACCESS STUDENTS.

AND IN TERMS OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR FIRST TIME IN COLLEGE, YOU HAVE TO HAVE AT LEAST ONE SESSION.

THAT'S EXCELLENT. THANK YOU.

THANK YOU FOR THAT. AND JUST ONE MORE DATA SLIDE TO SHARE THAT WE ALSO DISAGGREGATED ACROSS RACE AND ETHNICITY AND SHOWED AGAIN POSITIVE EFFECT ACROSS ALL RACIAL AND ETHNIC LINES THAT SUCCESS COACHING MAKES A SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE, PARTICULARLY WHEN THEY SEE A COACH MORE THAN ONE TIME.

AND SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED AND VERY PROUD FOR THIS DATA.

I'D BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T.

I ONLY SHARE THE SUCCESSES AND NOT SHARE A FEW OF THE CHALLENGES.

SO JUST VERY QUICKLY, SOME OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE HAVE ARE AROUND THE INFRASTRUCTURE, THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU ASKED AT THE VERY BEGINNING.

AND SO WE ARE ADDING A COUPLE OF POSITIONS.

LAD MR ESSER OUT A LITTLE BIT AND REDISTRIBUTE THE LEADERSHIP DISTRIBUTION OF THOSE SUCCESS COACHES JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE HAS THE SUPPORT THAT THEY NEED TO DO THEIR JOB WELL.

TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION RIGHT NOW.

SUCCESS. COACHES USE ABOUT 20 PLUS TECHNOLOGIES TO VARIOUS TECHNOLOGIES TO SERVE STUDENTS.

AND SO IT'S ALWAYS A CHALLENGE TO KEEP MAINTAINING THE TRAINING.

WE'RE ALSO INTEGRATING TO WORKDAY, THE STUDENT NEW STUDENT MODULE, WHICH WILL BE EFFECTIVE IN 2025.

WHY THAT MANY SOFTWARE PROGRAMS? BECAUSE THERE'S NO VENDOR YET THAT HAS PROVIDED EVERYTHING THAT WE NEED TO SERVE STUDENTS.

SO WE THERE'S EVERYTHING FROM LANGUAGE LINE.

IF A STUDENT IF A SUCCESS COACH DOESN'T SPEAK A LANGUAGE OF A STUDENT, WE HAVE A TECHNOLOGY THAT THEY USE FOR THAT.

WE USE NAVIGATOR TO HELP TRACK ALL OF THE DATA.

THEN THERE'S COLLEAGUE TO LOOK UP THE STUDENT RECORDS AND IT GOES ON.

NOW FOR ALL THE VARIOUS THINGS THAT STUDENTS GOT IT.

WHAT THEY HELP ANY IN THAT WE'RE HELPING, WE'RE HELPING TO BRING FORWARD OUR NEEDS AND BE A PART OF THAT DESIGN SO THAT MAYBE WE CAN REDUCE SOME OF THOSE TECHNOLOGIES.

THANK YOU. YOU'RE WELCOME.

PHYSICAL OFFICE SPACE.

AND FOR 235 TEAM MEMBERS ACROSS SEVEN LOCATIONS HAS BEEN A CHALLENGE.

BUT WE ARE WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR OPERATIONS COLLEAGUES TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE STUDENT FACING OFFICE SPACES ARE MAXIMIZED.

AND WE'RE WE'RE WE'RE WORKING TO TO TO FIX THAT.

AND THEN THE LAST PIECE IS JUST THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE SUCCESS COACHES ARE ABLE TO DO ROBUST CASE MANAGEMENT.

AND SO LOOKING AT TRYING TO REDUCE SOME OF THE OTHER NON.

[00:25:02]

CRITICAL FUNCTIONS OF THEY'RE ALL THINGS THAT LIKE ANSWERING PHONE CALLS ABOUT.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT EVENTS ARE GOING ON ON CAMPUS BECAUSE RIGHT NOW THE SUCCESS COACH IS ANSWER THE PHONES.

THEY RESPOND TO THE EMAILS AND THEY'RE SEEING STUDENTS BY APPOINTMENT.

SO SOME OPPORTUNITIES LOOKING AHEAD.

AS I MENTIONED, WE'LL CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN OUR ALIGNMENT AND INTEGRATION WITH THE ENROLLMENT STRATEGIC ENROLLMENT EFFORTS.

WE'LL WORK ON THOSE TECHNOLOGY ENHANCEMENTS AND WE HAVE REALLY BEEN FORTUNATE AND ARE VERY EXCITED ABOUT SOME PHILANTHROPIC DOLLARS THAT WE'VE RECEIVED TO MOVE US CLOSER TO WHAT WE'RE CALLING A CASE MANAGEMENT STUDIO.

AND SO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE FOUNDATION, JOSH SKOLNICK AND HIS GREAT TEAM HAVE HELPED US TO SECURE $400,000 IN.

300,000 FROM THE ADIC FOUNDATION AND 100,000 FROM MCKESSON.

AND AND ESSENTIALLY WHAT IT IS, IS WE'RE TRYING TO DEVELOP A PLACE WHERE NOT ONLY WILL WE LEARN MORE ABOUT WHAT IT MEANS TO BE STRONG CASE MANAGERS, BUT THERE ARE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN THE COMMUNITY WHO HAVE ALSO SAID WE NEED STRONG CASE.

JEWS AS A PART OF OUR ORGANIZATION AS WELL.

AND DALLAS COLLEGE CAN SERVE AS THAT HUB WHERE YOU CAN COME AND LEARN HOW TO BE AN EXCELLENT CASE MANAGER.

AND SO IT'S A REVENUE STREAM.

AND RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN THE EXPLORATION PHASE OF DEVELOPING THAT.

WE ALSO RECEIVED THE $860,000 GRANT FROM A GROUP CALLED HCRC, AND IT FOCUSES ON INCENTIVIZING CLOSING EQUITY GAPS THROUGH INCENTIVIZING STUDENTS TO BASICALLY MEET WITH THEIR SUCCESS COACH.

SO THEY'RE GIVING US MONEY TO BANG ON SOME SOME CARROTS TO TO SAY, HEY, IF YOU MEET WITH YOUR SUCCESS COACH, IF YOU SELECT THE PLAN OF STUDY, IF YOU DO X, Y AND Z, THEN YOU CAN RECEIVE A STIPEND AND THE AND TO SEE IF THAT MOTIVATES STUDENTS TO TO BETTER UTILIZE THEIR THEIR YOU SHOULD SEE HOW WE SHOULD USE EITHER CORPORATE PARTNERS OR LIKE FOR EXAMPLE, DALLAS MADDUX GET A CERTAIN NUMBER OF COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS IF THEY MEET WITH THE COACH AND WE ASK THEM, THE TEXAS RANGERS GET A LOT OF THEM RIGHT.

THAT'S A GOOD IDEA WRITING IT DOWN.

AND SO THAT. YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS AFTERNOON.

I HAVE THE PLEASURE.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT I INTRODUCE THE STAFF THAT ARE HERE.

AND I KNOW THE TOP FAST BECAUSE I WANTED TO GET TO THIS PART BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART.

I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS TEAM.

THIS TEAM WORKS TREMENDOUSLY HARD.

THEY DO SO MUCH FOR STUDENTS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

AND. SO HARD TO GET IT RIGHT.

THEY LISTEN TO ALL THIS FEEDBACK.

THE GOOD AND. THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING THEY CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR STUDENTS REALLY RECEIVE THE CARE THAT THEY DESERVE, TO HELP THEM GET TO THEIR JOURNEYS. AND SO WE ACTUALLY HAVE I'D LIKE TO START WITH DR.

JERMAINE PIPPINS AND ASKING HIM TO STAND.

DR. JERMAINE, ARE DEAN FOR SUCCESS COACHING? WE HAVE SEVERAL ASSOCIATE DEANS FOR SUCCESS COACHING HERE.

AND SO I WANT TO. HAD ME SAYING PLEASE, AS I CALL YOUR NAME WILLIAM.

AND IS IT OUR CEDAR VALLEY LOCATION? AND HE SERVES THE TRADITIONAL POPULATION.

JAMAAL WILLIAMS IS AT OUR NORTHLAKE LOCATION.

HE'S OVER HERE TO THE RIGHT, AND HE SERVES OUR DUAL CREDIT POPULATION.

RENE FLOWERS.

RENEE IS HERE AND SHE'S AN ASSOCIATE DEAN SERVING OUR TRADITIONAL POPULATION AT NORTHLAKE IS CRYSTAL SINGLETON IS HERE SERVING OUR TRADITIONAL POPULATION AT RICHLAND.

AND THEN. UM.

WELL, HE'S NOT HERE, BUT I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE.

RAY IS WHO HELPED ME TO PULL TOGETHER SOME OF THE STUDENTS HERE TODAY, THAT HE'S AT A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EVENT AND COULDN'T JOIN US.

AND THEN WE HAVE A SENIOR SUCCESS COACH, EDDIE PEREZ, WHO IS HERE WITH US ALSO FROM NORTH LAKE.

AND THEN WE HAVE OUR SUCCESS COACHES, RACHAEL HAMILTON, KADIR SINGLETON.

RACHAEL IS AT FIELD.

KADIR IS AT CEDAR VALLEY AND LEXI CALHOUN.

IS LEXI HERE? LEXI THERE YOU GO.

LEXI IS AT RICHLAND.

SO FIRST I JUST.

CAN WE JUST GIVE THEM A ROUND OF APPLAUSE? AND CORNERBACK JUST WHEN ARE GOING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY SO THAT YOU CAN HEAR DIRECTLY FROM OUR STUDENTS.

WE HAVE TWO STUDENTS HERE WITH US, MAJESTY WILLIAMS FROM CEDAR VALLEY AND CHRISTOPHER SHELLEY FROM STEEL.

THEY'RE GOING TO COME UP WITH THEIR.

[00:30:02]

TO COACH AND TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT.

THEN JUST HOW THE SUCCESS COACH ROLE HAS SUPPORTED THEM IN THEIR JOURNEY.

SO YOU CAN COME AND TAKE MY SEAT.

GOOD REPORT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU. GOOD AFTERNOON.

ALL RIGHT. YEAH, I GUESS WE'LL START WITH CHRIS.

HI. I'VE NEVER BEEN IN A BOARD MEETING, SO I'M JUST GOING TO STAND.

HI, MY NAME IS CHRISTOPHER SHELLEY.

JUST TO GIVE YOU GUYS A LITTLE HISTORY ABOUT MYSELF, A LITTLE BIT OVER FOUR YEARS, I WAS HOMELESS AND ADDICTED TO METHAMPHETAMINES.

SINCE THEN, I'VE CLEANED UP MYSELF.

AND WITH GOD'S HELP AND HIS DIRECTIONS, HE'S HELPED ME BETTER MYSELF WITHIN MY LIFE AND WITHIN MY JOURNEY.

TWO YEARS AGO, I MOVED TO TEXAS, AND WITHIN THOSE TWO YEARS, MY SON CAME BACK INTO MY LIFE AND I STARTED GOING BACK TO COLLEGE.

SINCE I'VE GONE BACK TO COLLEGE IN DALLAS COLLEGE, RACHEL HAS BEEN A BIG PART OF THAT SUCCESS.

SHE'S SAT THERE AND SAT WITH ME THROUGHOUT MY CLASSES AND HAVE TO GO THROUGH MY CLASSES.

I'M MORE OF A TRADITIONAL LEARNER.

I LIKE TO BE IN PERSON WITH A TEACHER TALKING TO ME SO I CAN GET A FEEL OF WHAT HE'S WANTING FROM ME OTHER THAN BEING ONLINE TEACHING.

SO WITH THAT, SHE'S HELPED WITH THIS SUCCESS AND SHE'S GONE WITH ME WITH ALL MY CLASSES.

AND WITH THAT I'VE ALSO STUDENT VETERAN.

I AM A VETERAN. I'VE WORKED WITH THE STUDENT VETERANS AND NOW I'M A PART OF THE HONORS PROGRAM.

AND NOT JUST THAT, BUT I'M A PART OF THE HONOR SOCIETY OF PTK.

RIGHT BEFORE THIS MEETING, WE WERE SITTING THERE AND I WAS GETTING EMAILS THROUGH TO DR.

BRICK AND I'M GOING TO BE GOING TO CATALYST.

I JUST GOT INVITED TO A CATALYST WITHIN TWO WEEKS, WHICH I'M LIKE.

ALL THOSE OPPORTUNITIES.

I DON'T THINK I WOULD EVER HAVE IF IT WASN'T FOR MY SUCCESS.

COACHES. I ALSO HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE MY TESTIMONY TO THE GREAT PLAINS SOCIAL COUNCIL OR HONORS COUNCIL.

THAT HAPPENED IN WICHITA FALLS, KANSAS.

TEXAS, WHICH WOULD FALL FALLS, TEXAS, WHICH I WAS ABLE TO GIVE A TEN MINUTE PRESENTATION OF MY TESTIMONY AND HOW GOD'S MOVED WITHIN MY LIFE.

I BELIEVE THAT WITH ALL THESE PEOPLE DESIGN IN OUR IN MY LIFE AND HAVE BEEN A PART OF MY LIFE, I DON'T THINK HE'S BY ANY FORM OF COINCIDENCE.

I BELIEVE IT WAS GOD DIVINE AND GOD PUT THEM IN MY POSITION AND MY LIFE FOR A REASON.

AND IF IT WASN'T FOR HER STARTING ALL THAT, I DON'T THINK I WOULD BE HERE TODAY.

AND I TELL HER THAT ALL THE TIME.

I THINK SHE HEARS IT A LOT FROM ME.

I'M SO GRATEFUL FOR YOU BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, I'M 46 YEARS OLD, EX VETERAN, AND I CAN BE STUBBORN AT TIMES.

I WANT TO LEARN. I WANT TO BE I WANT TO RUN MY CLASSES IN PERSON.

BUT I DO HAPPEN TO NOTICE THAT A LOT OF MY CLASSES NOW ARE GOING TO BE ONLINE CLASSES, AND I KNOW WE'RE AT THE BOARD MEETING, SO I ASKED AND I HAD PERMISSION. SO IS THERE ANY WAY WE CAN HAVE MORE OF MY CLASSES AS A SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR BEING MORE IN PERSON JUST FOR THE FACT THAT I THINK THAT AS A SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR, WE NEED THAT INTERACTION, WE NEED THAT SENSE OF COMMUNITY, WE NEED TO BE A PART OF IT.

AND IF I'M JUST. BY READING A BOOK OR BY WATCHING SOMEONE GIVE ME A LECTURE.

I DON'T THINK I'M GETTING EVERYTHING I NEED TO DO AS A SUBSTANCE ABUSE COUNSELOR.

AND THE REASON WHY THE FIELD IS BECAUSE OF MY PAST.

I FEEL BECAUSE I'VE OVERCAME AND I'VE ADAPT WITH GOD'S HELP.

ULTIMATELY, I THINK I CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE WITH STUDENTS THAT MIGHT BE STRUGGLING OR WITH VETERANS THAT ARE ALSO STRUGGLING WITH IT TO HELP THEM BEAT THIS, BECAUSE I BELIEVE IT'S EPIDEMIC THAT WE THAT WE HAVE WITHIN OUR CULTURE THAT WE NEED.

WE NEED MORE PEOPLE BEING ABLE TO REACH IT.

AND IF WE HAVE MORE PEOPLE THAT SIT THERE AND SAY, HEY, I'VE BEEN THERE, BRO, LIKE I'VE BEEN THERE, MAN, I'VE BEEN THERE, I KNOW WHAT IT IS TO BE THERE.

AND IT'S SHOWED ANY HELP ME WITH THOSE STEPS.

AND IF I THINK IF I WERE TO HAVE THOSE OPPORTUNITIES, I MIGHT HAVE GONE THROUGH IT.

I MIGHT HAVE GONE THROUGH WHAT I'VE GONE THROUGH.

BUT I'M GLAD THAT I DID GO THROUGH.

I DID GO THROUGH BECAUSE NOW I'M HERE TO SAY I'M HERE SPEAKING TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THE CHANCELLORS AND FELLOW PEERS AND AND HAVING SUCH AN AWESOME, LIKE I SAID, AWESOME, AWESOME SUCCESS COACH BECAUSE SHE STARTED.

THAT DOMINO EFFECT OF JUST HAVING A PERSONAL INTERACTION WITH HER HAS HAS MADE IT SO MUCH EASIER FOR ME TO HAVE A GPA OF 3.3 MONICA ON THE HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT WENT BACK TO SCHOOL AND GOING THROUGH EVERYTHING I'VE GONE THROUGH, SHE'S BEEN A GREAT SUCCESS.

SO I'LL GET OFF MY SOAPBOX AND THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU.

WHAT AN HONOR IT IS TO BE HERE, TO SPEAK AND IT JUST TO HAVE A STUDENT HERE WITH ME AND HAVE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK.

[00:35:01]

AND I WANT TO THANK ROBERT REYES AND EDDIE EDUARDO FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY AND MY STUDENT, CHRIS, THAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S WE'RE KIND OF LIKE ON THE FRONT LINES AND TO GET TO BE HERE AND TO SHARE WITH YOU GUYS WHAT'S ACTUALLY HAPPENING, BECAUSE I KNOW, YOU KNOW, YOU SIT IN A ROOM, WE LOOK AT NUMBERS, WE SEE STATISTICS.

AND THIS IS REAL LIFE.

YOU KNOW, THAT WHAT WE'RE DOING IS ACTUALLY CHANGING LIVES.

AND I'M A PART OF THE SPECIAL POPULATIONS TEAM.

SO I WORK WITH SPECIFICALLY VETERANS, MILITARY CONNECTED OUR ESL STUDENTS.

SO CREDIT STUDENTS ALSO ARE F-1 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.

AND SO CHRIS IS ONE OF OUR VETERANS.

AND, YOU KNOW, THIS IS REAL.

REAL TIME STUDENTS THAT ARE BEING IMPACTED.

AND, YOU KNOW, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE LEARNER CARE MODEL AND THAT BEAUTIFUL MODEL THAT WE SEE IN THE PRESENTATION, THIS IS REAL LIFE RIGHT HERE.

YOU KNOW, CHRIS, AT THE EASTFIELD CAMPUS, YOU KNOW, WE'VE REALLY CREATED THIS CONNECTION WITH THE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS.

AND SO OUR REAL TIME WORKING WITH THE MILITARY PROGRAM LEADS AND WORKING WITH OUR VETERAN STUDENTS.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, WALKING STUDENTS, THEY'RE WALKING THEM TO FINANCIAL AID.

THAT'S, YOU KNOW, EVEN OUR COUNSELING OFFICE.

AND ONE THING ON MY END THAT I GIVE YOU UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY AT EASTFIELD IS TO BE ON THE STUDENT CARE NETWORK, ON OUR WEEKLY TEAM MEETINGS, TO REPRESENT SUCCESS COACHES. AND SO IN THAT, I SEE FIRSTHAND HOW THE SUCCESS COACHES ARE REACHING OUT TO STUDENTS, HELPING STUDENTS THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT POSSIBLY COULD BE FALLING THROUGH THE CRACKS, THAT WE ARE IN REAL TIME WORKING WITH THOSE DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS, WHETHER IT'S FINANCIAL AID, IT'S THE COUNSELING, IT'S THE VETERAN NETWORK, THE INTERNATIONAL ADMISSIONS. SO FOR SPECIAL POPULATIONS, IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT IN SOME OF THE DEPARTMENTS THAT WE WORK WITH.

BUT IT'S, YOU KNOW, IT'S MAKING AN IMPACT AND IT'S MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

AND WHEN I SEE CHRIS HERE, IT'S IT'S AN HONOR BECAUSE SOMETIMES, YOU KNOW, WE SIT IN OUR OFFICE, WE WORK ALL DAY LONG.

IT'S A LONG DAY SOMETIMES, AND WE DON'T ALWAYS SEE THE OUTCOMES NECESSARILY AND OR KNOW THE FEEDBACK, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE YOU DON'T KNOW THE IMPACT THAT YOUR WORDS OR YOUR CONVERSATION CAN HAVE.

AND I THINK HEARING FROM CHRIS, LIKE I HONESTLY TO BE REAL, I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT I HAD SUCH AN IMPACT.

AND SO IT REALLY IT JUST WHAT I DO IS NOT JUST A JOB.

YOU KNOW, IT'S AND IT'S AN HONOR TO BE A PART OF WHAT DALLAS COLLEGE IS PIONEERING.

I STARTED AT THE BROOKHAVEN COLLEGE BEFORE THE CHANGE STARTED.

AND SO I GOT TO BE KIND OF FROM THE BEGINNING AND SEE ALL THIS CHANGE.

AND YOU ARE PIONEERING SOMETHING THAT IS GOING TO CHANGE GENERATIONS.

I REALLY DO BELIEVE THAT.

AND AMIDST THE STRUGGLE, IMMENSE CHALLENGES THAT THESE STUDENTS HERE, THIS IS WHY YOU GUYS ARE HERE HAVING THIS DISCUSSION AND DR.

STILLS IS, YOU KNOW, IS PRESENTING BECAUSE WE ARE CHANGING GENERATIONS OF DALLAS COUNTY AND THE CITY OF DALLAS.

AND I BELIEVE THAT THE DECISIONS BEING MADE HERE ARE GOING TO IMPACT INCREDIBLE WAYS.

SO JUST THANK YOU FOR THIS HONOR.

AND JUST CHRIS IS JUST A GREAT EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE'RE DOING.

AND, YOU KNOW, IT'S IT'S JUST AN HONOR.

AND I'M SO EXCITED FOR WHERE WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO GO BECAUSE I KNOW THAT WE'RE JUST AT THE BEGINNING.

SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

SO HARD. AND IT WAS ABOUT TRUSTEE WORDS.

I'M FROM CEDAR VALLEY CAMPUS.

MY STUDY IS PSYCHOLOGY AND MY SUCCESS COACH RIGHT HERE AND SUBSTITUTED AND A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME.

I JUST GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL JUNE 20TH, 22, AND TO BE HONEST, AFTER WHEN I GRADUATED, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS GOING TO BE DOING.

UM, YOU KNOW, DURING COVID, IT WAS A VERY I'M SURE IT WAS A VERY HARD TIME FOR EVERYONE AND STUFF LIKE THAT.

AND, UM, YOU KNOW, I WENT THROUGH SOME REALLY CHALLENGING STUFF, LIKE JUST GRIEVING OVER FRIENDS AND JUST NOT BEING AS.

IT WAS MY COMMUNITY, MY SOCIETY.

AND IT'S JUST I WAS NOT THINKING ABOUT COLLEGE.

BUT ONCE I GRADUATED, I GOT TO SPEAK WITH MR. SINGLETON. AND I'M JUST FIRST OF ALL, I'M JUST REALLY GRATEFUL FOR HAVING YOU IN MY LIFE, FIRST OF ALL.

AND, YOU KNOW, ONE THING THAT HE'S REALLY HELPED ME WITH IS JUST BEING ABLE TO ASK FOR HELP BECAUSE ME GROWING UP AS A SINGLE CHILD, IT'S IT'S NOT DIFFICULT, BUT IT CAN BE KIND OF HARD TO WANT TO REACH OUT FOR HELP BECAUSE YOU'VE LEARNED SO MUCH.

LIKE YOU HAVE TO DO IT BY YOURSELF BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T REALLY HAD ANYTHING ELSE TO DO IT LIKE TO HELP IN THE PROCESS.

SO HE HAS REALLY BEEN HELPING ME TO JUST LIKE IT'S OKAY TO ASK FOR HELP SOMETIMES AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SECONDLY, UM, IT'S JUST AFTER COLLEGE WE, WE CAN OBVIOUSLY AGREE THAT LIFE HAS BEEN HARD, YOU KNOW, IT'S BEEN HARD FOR EVERYONE.

AND WE ALL NEED SOMEONE IN OUR LIVES TO JUST TRY TO GUIDE US THROUGH LIFE.

AND I FEEL LIKE MR. 60 HAS BEEN A VERY AMAZING GUIDE WITH ME BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH THIS IS ABOUT CLASSES AND THINGS LIKE THAT FOR COLLEGE, HE'S ALSO HELPED ME LIKE JUST JUST PERSONAL LIFE EXPERIENCES AND LIFE CHALLENGES AND JUST LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCES BECAUSE AGAIN, WE ALL NEED SOMEONE THAT'S GOING TO GUIDE US THROUGH OUR PATH.

AND JUST LIKE I WAS SAYING, I DIDN'T HAVE NO IDEA I WAS GOING TO BE HERE TODAY.

[00:40:02]

I DON'T KNOW. IT'S JUST IT'S THINGS LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW, JUST BEING ABLE TO HELP OTHER STUDENTS AND JUST HELP GUIDE THEM TOWARDS THEIR PATH AND THINGS LIKE THAT. SO AGAIN, I TRULY APPRECIATE MR. SINGLETON AND THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALLOWING US TO BE HERE.

AGAIN, MY NAME IS DEREK SINGLETON.

I'M A SUCCESS COACH AT CEDAR VALLEY.

I SERVE THE TRADITIONAL POPULATION.

MY MY ID IS WILLIAM GUNN.

I ADORE MY AD, I ADORE DR.

STEELE'S. DR. PITKIN'S, EVERYBODY A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MYSELF.

I'M NOT NEW TO THIS.

I'M REALLY TRUE TO THIS POSITION.

THIS IS NOT MY FIRST TIME ACTUALLY BEING HERE.

I WAS HERE FOR ABOUT EIGHT YEARS IN FINANCIAL AID AND VARIOUS POSITIONS.

SOME OF THOSE POSITIONS WERE RIGHT HERE IN THIS ROOM, RIGHT HERE IN THIS BUILDING, I SHOULD SAY.

AND SO AFTER FINANCIAL AID, I MOVED ON TO ADMISSIONS AT.

OF STUDENTS FROM ALL. AND THAT PIQUED MY INTEREST EVEN MORE IN HIGHER ED IN HELPING STUDENTS.

UNFORTUNATELY, I LEFT.

I WENT TO TCC TO TAKE A POSITION AS AN ACADEMIC ADVISOR.

I CAME BACK. THEY WALKED ME BACK INTO THE FOLD.

SO I'M SO GRATEFUL.

AND IT WAS REALLY THE, THE, THE, UH, THE INVESTMENT THAT, THAT YOU GUYS ARE PUTTING INTO SUCCESSFUL COACHING HAD BROUGHT ME BACK.

AND SO I SAID, LOOK WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND ME I WANT.

SOMETHING GREAT. WHATEVER IT IS, WHETHER I'M WALKING DOWN THE STREET OR GOING TO WORK, I WANT TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING GREAT.

AND SO I FEEL LIKE THIS IS SOMETHING REALLY TREMENDOUS THAT WE'RE DOING HERE.

I'VE GOTTEN THE CHANCE TO DO CASE MANAGEMENT.

I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO THAT.

WE GOT TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF A TCC A LITTLE BIT WITH SOME OF OUR PROBATION STUDENTS, BUT NOW I'M REALLY GETTING TO DELVE INTO IT.

AND WHAT I LIKE MOST ABOUT IT IS THAT I GET TO MEET STUDENTS LIKE MAJESTY, AND NOT ONLY DO I GET TO MEET WITH THEM BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT'S SUCCESS STORIES TO OUR ADVISORS.

WE SEE STUDENTS COME IN AND OUT, IN AND OUT AND WE DON'T KNOW.

THERE HAPPENS TO BE EMERGENCY WHILE WAITING.

I SAID I WAS LIKE PRODUCING AND WRITING.

YOU DON'T EVEN GET TO SEE THE END OF IT.

SO WITH THIS, I GET TO SEE I GET TO FOLLOW HIM.

I GET TO BUG HIM AND SAY, HEY, WHAT'S WHAT'S GOING ON WITH YOU? YOU HAVEN'T HEARD FROM ME. I HAD A STUDENT THAT CAME IN THE OTHER DAY AND SHE WAS NOT HERSELF AT ALL.

BUT BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO MEET SO MUCH, I KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE, WHAT SHE WHAT HER NORMAL IS.

AND I WAS ABLE TO SAY WHAT'S GOING ON.

AND ONE THING ABOUT.

HE HELPS THEM TO HELPS US TO BUILD THAT TRUST, BUILD A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM, AND THEY TRUST US TO GUIDE THEM THROUGH THIS PROCESS.

AND JUST LIKE DR.

STEELE SAID, THIS IS HARD WORK AND IT'S ALSO HARD WORK.

WE'RE DOING A LOT ON ON ANY GIVEN DAY, I COULD BE ON CALL CENTER, MY PERSONAL EMAILS TO MY STUDENTS, THE ADVISING EMAILS TO VIRTUAL.

ANYONE. BUT IT'S SO REWARDING TO GET TO SEE SOMEONE'S LIKE, MAJESTY.

SHE'S THE BEST. SHE'S MY ONLY SISTER SOUGHT ME OUT TO DO HER SMART GOALS FOR THIS CLAN.

I WAS LIKE, I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS.

I'VE ASKED HIM TO PLAY.

OKAY. SO IT'S JUST BEEN A PLEASURE.

I'M LOOKING TO CONTINUE TO GROW AS A SUCCESS COACH, AND I KNOW THAT WITH THE LEADERSHIP THAT WE HAVE DR.

PIPKINS, DR. STILLS, EDDIE GUNN, EVERYBODY'S JUST BEEN GREAT.

THIS IS, LIKE I SAID, THIS IS TOUGH.

THIS IS NEW. AND WITH NEW THINGS, THERE'S CHALLENGES.

AND I CAN'T SIT HERE AND SAY IT'S BEEN SMOOTH SAILING BECAUSE THERE'S BEEN TIMES WHERE I'M LIKE, OH MY GOODNESS, WHAT HAVE I DONE? BUT IT'S ALL WORTH IT.

IT'S ALL WORTH IT TO SEE STUDENTS LIKE MAJESTY AND JUST TO BE HERE AND TO TALK TO YOU GUYS ABOUT THAT.

IT'S A BLESSING.

SO I APPRECIATE IT. GEORGEANN WAS A PERSONAL PRIVILEGE, WHICH IS FLOYD TO THE CHAIRS AND I'M GOING TO TAKE IT.

FIRST OF ALL, I WAS REMISS IN THE INTRODUCTION BECAUSE I WAS SO FOCUSED ON GETTING THIS THING STARTED THAT I HAD ALREADY STOPPED FOR STOOLS, BUT I DIDN'T INTRODUCE AND RECOGNIZE DR. JOSEPH. SO CAN WE GIVE HER.

AMAZING TEAM.

AMAZING FOLKS. YOU STAND UP, YOU KNOW MRS IN MY BUILDING, I.

THE GORHAM CAMPUS, AND I GET TO A COUPLE OF DAYS A WEEK WALK BY HER OFFICE.

AND IF I'M FEELING BAD, IF I'M HAVING A BAD DAY, I GO DOWN TO HER OFFICE.

AND BECAUSE HER ENERGY, HER DECORATIONS, BOTH.

AND THE WHOLE TEAM VECTOR, BUT I DON'T.

I KNOW THE COMMITMENT. SO THANK YOU.

SO MRS. BEFORE. OH, EXCUSE ME.

A COUPLE OF COMMENTS, IF I CAN, PLEASE.

THANK YOU. UH, SO CONGRATULATIONS FOR BREAKING OUT OF ADDICTION AND FOR WHAT YOU'RE DOING NOW.

[00:45:05]

I'M SURE YOU'RE SEEING AS YOU'RE TAKING YOUR CLASSES, THAT THERE'S OTHERS THAT ARE NOT OUT OF FRESH, OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL AGE, LIKE MAJESTY.

BUT THERE'S ADULTS WHO HAVE RETURNED BECAUSE THEY HIT THAT BRICK WALL AND THEY KNOW THAT WITHOUT AN EDUCATION, THEY WON'T GET ANYWHERE.

BUT I'M GOING TO TELL YOU AND MAJESTY WHAT I TOLD MY GRANDSON WHEN HE GRADUATED WITH HIS MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEGREE, NOT ONLY BECAUSE YOU SPOKE ABOUT GENERATIONS, RIGHT.

I THINK IT WAS YOU.

NOT ONLY ARE YOU IMPACTING YOUR.

LIVES THAT YOU'RE IMPACTING YOUR GENERATIONS TO COME.

BECAUSE ANYTIME YOU HAVE A COLLEGE EDUCATED PERSON IN THE FAMILY, THE LIKELIHOOD THAT YOUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, ETCETERA, FOR GENERATIONS TO COME ARE GOING TO FOLLOW THE PATH THAT YOU FORGED.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU, TO OUR SUCCESS COACHES, TO ALL OF YOU IN HERE.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU DO.

YOU ARE THE THEY ARE THE EMBODIMENT OF OUR MISSION.

YOU ARE THE SOLDIERS, THE FOOT SOLDIERS IN OUR MISSION OF TRANSFORMING LIVES AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH HIGHER EDUCATION.

YOU ALL ARE ALL VERY INSPIRING.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

BECAUSE THE HEART YOU PUT INTO IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT, BUT YOU PUT IT IN THERE AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.

NOT JUST GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS, BUT PUTTING THE HEART AND THE PASSION IN THERE.

SO THANK YOU. THANK ALL OF YOU SO, SO MUCH.

AND SINCE YOU POINTED OUT SOMEBODY WANT TO STAND UP? OKAY, SO ANDY AND I WENT THROUGH THE MASTER'S IN LEADERSHIP PUBLIC LEADERSHIP PROGRAM TOGETHER.

AND WHEN WE TOOK THAT ANALYTICS EVERY FRIDAY, WE WOULD BUILD A PRIEST WORKING ON THE ASSIGNMENTS TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT AND MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTOOD.

BUT I KNOW HIS HEART AND HIS PASSION, JUST LIKE, YOU KNOW, LEXI.

AND AS LEXI AND EDUARDO ARE, IT'S APPARENT THAT ALL OF THE PEOPLE ON THIS TEAM ARE.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.

WELL SAID. AND WE APPRECIATE YOU MORE THAN WE CAN TELL YOU.

IT'S MY RESPONSIBILITY TO ADJOURN THE EDUCATION WORKFORCE COMMITTEE MEETING AT 4:02 P.M..

THANK.
