[2. Certification of Notice Posted for the Meeting]
THIS MEETING WAS POSTED ACCORDING TO SECTION 551.05 FOR TEXAS.YOU WILL NOW STAND TO PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE.
WE'RE GOING TO WAIVE THAT. WE'RE WE'RE GOING TO STAND.
SO WHY DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE A REAL WEAKNESS? WHAT'S THE WALL HERE? I BELIEVE THIS IS THE UNITED STATES.
DISABILITY FOCUSES SAY ONE AND INDIVIDUAL PRICE.
DO YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS DESIRING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD TODAY? NO ONE HAS SIGNED UP.
SO NOW WE WILL HAVE OUR SPECIAL PRESENTATION.
[5. Special Presentation: Dallas College Student Championships]
CHANCELLOR LENNON, WOULD YOU LIKE TO MAKE THE INTRODUCTION? THANK YOU. SO WE'RE WE'RE ABOUT TO AGAIN HAVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IN OUR MIDST WITH A COUPLE OF OUR ATHLETIC TEAMS, AND SO WE'RE EXCITED TO HAVE THEM HERE. I'D LIKE TO ASK DR.JOSEPH TO COME UP FIRST AND THEN SHE'LL INTRODUCE FROM THEIR START.
THANK YOU, EVERYBODY. I'M DELIGHTED TO BE HERE TODAY TO ONCE AGAIN CELEBRATE OUR STUDENTS SUCCESS.
BUT AS YOU ALL KNOW, SUCCESS DOESN'T COME WITHOUT LEADERSHIP, PERSISTENCE AND INCREDIBLE TENACITY.
SO I AM PLEASED TO INTRODUCE OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, MR. JONES, WHO WILL THEN BE INTRODUCING OUR PRESIDENTS AND OUR ATHLETES.
THANK YOU, DR. JONES. AND ALSO.
THANK YOU FOR OUR COLLEAGUES HERE AND ALSO OUR GUESTS IN ATTENDANCE.
AND THANK YOU AGAIN FOR HONORING OUR TEAMS AGAIN FOR THIS YEAR.
WE TRULY APPRECIATE IT AND WE TRULY APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT.
AS YOU GUYS ALREADY KNOW, WE'VE ACTUALLY HAD ANOTHER EXCEPTIONAL YEAR WITH OUR LOCAL WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM, THIS WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM, AND ALSO OUR REGIONAL WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM.
SORRY. YOU JUST GOING? AS I WAS SAYING BEFORE, WE HAD ANOTHER EXCEPTIONAL YEAR.
WE'VE ALSO AGAIN HAD OUR BROOKHAVEN WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM THAT FINISHED AGAIN, FIRST WITH ANOTHER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE, THEIR FOURTH AND SIX YEARS.
SO AGAIN, AN EXCEPTIONAL FEAT FOR OUR YOUNG LADIES.
BUT ALSO WE HAVE OUR ORIGINAL MEN'S SOCCER TEAM, AS YOU CAN SEE BEHIND ME HERE, THAT AGAIN, FINISHED WITH ANOTHER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THEIR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THEIR FOURTH.
AND THEIR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE UNDEFEATED SEASON.
[00:05:01]
AND AGAIN, AS THE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, I CAN'T EXPRESS ENOUGH HOW OUT WE ARE OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND OF OUR TEAM AND OF OUR COACHES AND EVERYTHING THAT YOU ACCOMPLISH THIS YEAR AND OF COURSE, OF YOUR SUPPORT.SO WE'RE EXTREMELY PROUD OF THEM AND EXTREMELY PROUD OF HOW THEY REPRESENT US ON A NATIONAL STAGE.
SO, AGAIN, KUDOS TO YOU GUYS AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU DO, BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY, WE KNOW THAT IT'S NOT EASY BEING A STUDENT ATHLETE, AND WE KNOW THAT YOU GUYS HAVE TO JUGGLE CLASS, WORK, PRACTICE AND AGAIN, WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO, ESPECIALLY YOUR STUDENT ATHLETES.
I'D ALSO LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME, YOU WILL TO ALSO THANK OUR TEAMS FOR ALSO CONTINUE TO SET THE STANDARD, SET THE STANDARD AND BEING A STUDENT ATHLETE HERE AT DALLAS COLLEGE, BUT ALSO CONTINUE TO MAKE THE DALLAS COLLEGE NAME KNOWN WORLDWIDE AND CONTINUE TO SHOW OTHER STUDENT ATHLETES THE POSSIBILITIES THAT THEY CAN HAVE BY BEING STUDENT ATHLETES HERE AT DALLAS COLLEGE.
SO THANK YOU GUYS AGAIN FOR THAT.
BUT ALSO JUST LETTING THEM KNOW THAT THEY CAN COME IN HERE, THEY CAN HAVE A GREAT CAREER HERE, THEY CAN GET AN EDUCATION, THEY CAN COMPETE ON A NATIONAL LEVEL, BUT ALSO THEY CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL THE GREAT THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO OFFER HERE IN DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND AGAIN, THAT'S WORLDWIDE WIDE.
SO AGAIN, THANK YOU, GUYS, AND THANK YOU FOR CONTINUE TO MAKE THE DALLAS COLLEGE NAME.
NO, BUT ALSO JUST TO REPRESENT US IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE.
SO WE GENERALLY APPRECIATE THAT.
SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT.
THE OTHER THINGS THAT YOU GUYS SHOULD BE EXTREMELY PROUD OF IS THAT NO TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF NJCAA MEN'S SOCCER HAS EVER WON FIVE CONSECUTIVE.
BUT YOU GUYS HAVE CONTINUE TO DO INCREDIBLE JOB.
YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE HISTORY AND YOU SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF IT.
SO THANK YOU AGAIN FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO.
I ALSO WANTED TO TAKE THIS TIME TO ALSO INTRODUCE OUR NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, LEON NORBY, AT OUR RICHLAND CAMPUS, WHO HAS DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB OF WORKING WITH OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AT THE RICHLAND CAMPUS.
BUT I ALSO REALLY WANT TO TAKE THIS TIME TO TO ALSO THANK OUR COACH ROLE, CAREER AND OUR ASSISTANT COACHES FOR EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO, BECAUSE WE DON'T ALWAYS GET TO SEE ON A DAILY BASIS WHAT THEY DO BEHIND THE SCENES.
THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.
I'D ALSO LIKE TO TAKE THIS TIME AS WELL TO THANK DR.
JOSEPH, BECAUSE WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO WHAT WE DO AS WELL WITHOUT HER SUPPORT ON A DAILY BASIS.
AS SHE GUIDES US, SHE MAKES SURE THAT WE HAVE EVERYTHING THAT WE NEED.
DR. JOSEPH THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
WE ALSO WANT TO TAKE THIS TIME AS WELL TO INVITE THE BOARD OUT TO ANY OF OUR COMPETITIONS.
WE STILL HAVE SEVERAL COMPETITIONS FROM OUR MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS, FROM OUR SPORTS TEAMS THAT ARE ACTUALLY COMPETING THIS WEEK FOR FINALS. WE'VE HAD TWO TEAMS, OUR VALORANT TEAM AND ALSO OUR OVERWATCH TEAM THAT ARE ACTUALLY THEY'VE BEEN NUMBER ONE IN THE COUNTRY FOR THIS PAST YEAR.
SO WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU GUYS TO COME OUT TO THAT.
SO THEY GIVE GIVEN OUR RICH WOMEN'S TEAM AROUND THE WORLD.
IF YOU'RE NOT ABLE TO VOTE, IMAGINE.
WANT TO ORGANIZE THIS? YES. COULD I ASK YOU A QUESTION? HOW MANY OF THE PLAYERS ARE GOING TO GO ON AND PLAY SOCCER AT THE NEXT LEVEL OF COLLEGE? WELL, IT WOULD DEPEND.
WE HAD SEVERAL THAT HAVE ACTUALLY GONE ON TO RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS.
WE HAVE ONE RIGHT NOW THAT IS ACTUALLY PLAYING AT SYRACUSE.
SO HERE'S WHAT I'M THINKING OF. MOVE THE PODIUM AND THEN IF YOU GUYS IF YOU GO TO SLEEP.
[00:10:03]
COACH, COACH, COACH.BUT THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR TAKING THE TIME TO MEET WITH US TODAY.
BUT TO ALSO TO CELEBRATE OUR TEAMS AND ALL THE COMMITMENTS THAT THEY'VE HAD THIS YEAR.
AT THIS POINT IN TIME, I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE OUR RICHLAND COLLEGE PRESIDENT, DR.
KAY EGGLESTON, AND SHE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR COACHES.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND MULTIPLE THINGS.
IT GIVES ME GREAT PLEASURE, CHANCELLOR LEHMAN, TO AGAIN PRESENT THE RICHLAND CAMPUS MEN'S SOCCER TEAM TO ALL OF YOU.
AND I'D LIKE COACH RIVERA TO COME STAND HERE TO BRING US HERE.
NOW, BOTH OF THESE GENTLEMEN MIGHT LOOK A LITTLE SLEEPY EYED TO YOU, AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE OF THE TOURNAMENT IN HERKIMER, BUT THEY BOTH HAVE JUST COME BACK FROM DOHA. THEY HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE WORLD CUP OVER THE WEEKEND.
AND SO, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE CERTAINLY LOOKING TO THE BEST OF THE BEST TO INSPIRE US FURTHER.
NO OTHER TEAM IN THE UNITED STATES AT THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION, DIVISION THREE HAS EVER ACHIEVED FIVE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIPS IN A ROW.
YOU ARE ALL ON VERY HALLOWED GROUND WITH THAT ACCOMPLISHMENT.
SO LET'S GET THE ONE MORE HAND.
SO I'VE BEEN ASKED, WHAT'S THE SECRET FORMULA? WHAT IS IT THAT IS BEING DONE? SO I'M GOING TO TAKE A STEP BACK.
I'M NOT GOING TO GIVE YOU STATS AND ALL OF THAT.
THEY WILL. BUT I WANT TO TELL YOU ABOUT THESE TWO INCREDIBLE COACHES BECAUSE THEY ARE HOME GROWN.
THEY ARE RICHLAND COLLEGE GRADUATES WITH ASSOCIATE DEGREES.
THEY WENT ON TO COMPLETE THEIR ADVANCED DEGREES AND THEY HAVE STAYED IN THE COMMUNITY THAT THEY ARE A PRODUCT OF AND THEY ARE CONTRIBUTING IN SUCH MEANINGFUL WAYS.
AND THAT'S PART OF THE SECRET SAUCE.
THEY KNOW WHAT THIS PROGRAM MEANT TO THEM AS STUDENTS GROWING UP IN NEW YORK, IN THE RICHARDSON SCHOOL DISTRICT, HILLCREST HIGH SCHOOL.
AND YOU WERE ALSO IN THE AREA, ACTUALLY, YOU CAME FROM MEXICO AND GREW UP IN OAK CLIFF, TEXAS.
AND BOTH PLAYED AND WON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AS RICHLAND MEN'S SOCCER TEAM MEMBERS.
SO THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED EVERY STEP ALONG THE WAY AND THEN COME BACK.
NOW, COACH RODRIGUEZ IS GOING TO TALK, CERTAINLY PROBABLY LESS THAN WE WILL TODAY. BUT I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT HE IS HE HAS NOW FOR FOUR SEASONS, BEEN THE ASSISTANT COACH, BUT HIS FULL TIME DAY JOB IS AS A PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AT STEVENS PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN BUFFALO.
SO THERE IS A WONDERFUL STORY HERE ABOUT BEING A PRODUCT OF AND THEN COMING BACK AND GIVING BACK AND INSPIRING NEXT GENERATION STUDENTS.
AND THAT'S REALLY THE STORY I WANT TO TELL YOU TODAY.
AND THEN I'LL TELL YOU ALL ABOUT THE WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENTS ON THE PLAYING FIELD.
BUT I'M TELLING YOU ABOUT THE WONDERFUL MEN THAT THEY ARE INSPIRING OUR STUDENTS.
AND COACH HERRERA'S WINNING FORMULA IS TO FOCUS INTENTLY ON EACH GAME, RIGHT PLAYERS AND TO STAY HUMBLE.
IT'S ONE GAME AT A TIME AND NEVER GO TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP.
BEFORE YOU GO THROUGH EACH GAME OF THE SEASON AT YOUR VERY BEST.
[00:15:02]
AND THAT IS WHAT THEY'VE DONE AND THAT'S WHAT THEY CONTINUE TO DO.I AM SO PROUD OF THESE TWO COACHES AND ALL OF OUR TEAM.
CONGRATULATIONS. TRY NOT TO TAKE TOO MUCH TIME.
THANK YOU FOR THE RECOGNITION.
SOMETIMES. I WAS AN ASSISTANT COACH AND SOMETIMES ASSISTANT COACH.
YOU DON'T GET THE RECOGNITION YOU DESERVE.
I WAS NOT ONLY MY ASSISTANT, HE WAS MY TEAMMATE AND ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS IN LIFE.
SO I'M ALWAYS, AS I THINK I HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE COACHING.
BUT THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN GET GOING.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE SEASON? FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO CONGRATULATE JIMMY ELDER.
I KNOW JIMMY THERE PERSONALLY.
I SEE HIM AS A MENTOR, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO HIM AND HIS TEAM.
ON WINNING HIS BROTHER ACTUALLY COACH OUT OF THE NINE MIDWESTERN STATE.
I ALWAYS KEEP IN TOUCH WITH HIM.
HE'S NOW A PROFESSIONAL SCOUT FOR A PROFESSIONAL TEAM HERE IN AMERICA.
LOSING SUCKS. VERY SIMPLE, BUT VERY COMPETITIVE INDUSTRY.
AND I THINK WE'VE BEEN REALLY SUCCESSFUL WITH THAT.
WE WON 11 TOTAL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.
WE'VE HAD FOUR UNDEFEATED SEASONS, BUT WE'RE WINNING OFF THE FIELD.
WE MENTIONED ABOUT HOW MANY PLAYERS WE'VE HAD.
JUST GIVE YOU AN ESTIMATE SINCE I'VE BEEN THE HEAD COACH.
WE HAVE SOMEBODY THAT PLAYED HERE.
SO YOU CAN CHECK HIM OUT. THAT AND HE'S A DALLAS COLLEGE STUDENT, ACTUALLY.
SO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY BE PROUD OF THAT.
SAYING SO A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE SEASON AS A COACH, I GUESS YOU TRY TO THEME EVERY SEASON.
YOU MIGHT HAVE SAW THE DOCUMENTARY THE COACH OF THE LAST DANCE.
AND THE THEME LAST YEAR WAS THE LAST ACT, MY FIRST YEAR AS A COACH, I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO COMMIT BECAUSE TO BEING UNDEFEATED WAS UNDEFEATED SEASON, YOU KNOW, WAS IT NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN RICHMOND AND ALL THE CHAMPIONSHIP, THE UNDEFEATED SEASON.
AND WE WEREN'T GOING TO BE ABLE TO DEFEND OUR CROWN.
AND WE DID. SO WE WENT ABOUT OUR BUSINESS THERE.
AND THEN THE NEXT SEASON, YOU KNOW, WE ALWAYS TRY TO MAKE HISTORY, TRY TO BETTER OURSELVES, SET THE STANDARD, ARE GOING TO WIN A THREE PEAT A GAME THAT HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE. AND ALSO WE'RE NOT TRYING TO NEGATIVE AS A POSITIVE WHEN TWO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THE SAME YEAR WHICH WAS RIGHT BECAUSE OF COVID, I REALLY WOULD HAVE PUT TWO TEMPERATURES IN ONE YEAR. AND ALSO HAVE WE HAVE STUDENT ATHLETES LIKE IN THIS YEAR THAT WERE ABLE TO BECAUSE OF COVID AND THE POSITIVE WAY WE PLAYED AND PARTICIPATE IN THREE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, WHICH IS RARE, IT'S NEVER HAPPENED SO RICHLY.
SO THAT'S ALWAYS THE STANDARD.
I ALWAYS TELL THE PLAYERS, ESPECIALLY THE CAPTAINS, LEAVE THE PROGRAM BETTER THAN WHEN YOU CAME IN SAYING SO IT'S BECOME A LITTLE DIFFICULT BECAUSE THE STANDARD IS GETTING BETTER AND THEY'RE WINNING MORE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
SO THERE'LL BE SOME WE'RE VERY PROUD OF IT AND WE WANT YOU TO BE A PART OF THAT.
HE'S A HE'S MY BEST FRIEND, TOO.
IF YOU GO THE TEMPERATURE WITH THIS IS A RITUAL ALARM.
BUT A LOT OF THEM ARE GOING TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY.
[00:20:05]
NOT THAT WE'RE NOT GRATEFUL FOR THE RESOURCES, BUT YOU KNOW, WE DON'T HAVE ONE ON ONE TWITTER AND WE DON'T HAVE A SUPER GRATEFUL.SOME COME FROM BETTER STANDARD OF LIVING THAN OTHERS.
SO I'M PROUD OF I'M REALLY PROUD OF IT AS WELL.
FINALLY, I JUST WANT TO THANK ALL MY ASSISTANT COACHES, MS..
YOU KNOW, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.
SCOTT, TOO, IS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE, KNOWS COACH WAS LAST YEAR REALLY APPRECIATE HIS HELP COACH AND ABBY YOU KNOW THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT IN A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND LOOKING FORWARD TO MANY MORE BREAKTHROUGHS WITH YOU AND DR.
HOUSTON THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
I THINK MY BIGGEST FAN AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT FROM SOMEBODY FROM YOUR POSITION.
AND FINALLY, I WANT TO THANK THE PLAYERS AND THE CAPTAINS.
YOU KNOW, I SAY LEAVE IT IN, LEAVE THE PROGRAM BETTER THAN IT WAS.
AND SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN DO IT AND YOU HAVE.
THANK YOU, GUYS. THE PROGRAM IS IN A BETTER POSITION THAN THE FIRST DAY YOU CAME HERE.
SO THANK YOU. AND GIVE YOURSELF A.
HUH? WHO'S GOING TO WIN THE WORLD CUP? I DON'T KNOW. THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION.
SO, YEAH, IT'LL BE INTERESTING.
IT'S A FUN WORLD CUP. DIFFERENT WORLD CUP, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT TIME OF THE YEAR.
JUST IN THE SUMMER. NOW WE CAN COME BACK AND WATCH IT OVER THE HOLIDAYS.
I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. YEAH.
WE'RE PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU.
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO TO CONTRIBUTE TO DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND TRICIA, YOU SHARE THE STORIES THAT WE KNOW.
EACH ONE OF YOU IS GOING TO BE ONE OF THOSE STORIES AS YOU LEAVE US AND GO DO AMAZING THINGS.
BUT WE'RE PROUD TO CALL YOU PART OF THE DALLAS COLLEGE FAMILY.
SO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO TO REPRESENT US OUT.
SO WHY DON'T WE BEGIN? THERE'S SO MANY OF THOSE SERVICES.
YEAH. HE'S GETTING IT RIGHT. THAT'S RIGHT.
I GUESS. IT JUST DON'T WORK OUT.
THINGS ARE. I THINK IT'S THE RIGHT TIME FOR.
[00:25:01]
YEAH. ALL RIGHT.THEY'RE MORE. EVEN MORE QUIET NOW.
SO YOU HEARD OUR WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAMS FROM THE BROOKHAVEN CAMPUS ARE ALSO CHAMPIONS.
YOU READY AGAIN, MR. PRESIDENT? THANK YOU.
WE ALWAYS HAVE A SMALLER GROUP DEDICATED TO.
SO THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR ATHLETE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS. GENERALLY SPEAKING, AS YOU KNOW, THESE PROGRAMS CONTRIBUTE TO STUDENT RETENTION AND SUCCESS.
SO THEY DO A GREAT JOB ON BOTH.
AND THEY WERE RANKED NUMBER ONE IN THE NJCAA NATIONAL RANKINGS.
AND SO I WANT TO SHARE A FEW OF THEIR INDIVIDUAL ACHIEVEMENTS.
WE HAD ANOTHER ONE NAMED MOST VALUABLE FORWARD.
WE HAD TWO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM MEMBERS.
AND THEN WITHIN THE DALLAS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE THIS YEAR, WE HAD THE NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR.
WE HAD THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AND WE HAD SEVEN ALL CONFERENCE TEAM MEMBERS FROM AMONG THIS GROUP.
WE ALSO HAD THREE ALL-AMERICANS.
SO YOU ALREADY HEARD HOW COACH ELDER INVESTED IN SOME OF OUR MEN'S SOCCER COACHES THAT WE HAVE NOW.
SO HE'S, I GUESS, PARTIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MEN'S GAME, WHICH IS.
AND SO DEFINITELY OUR COACHES WERE RECOGNIZED AS THE NJCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT COACH OF THE YEAR AND THE DALLAS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR.
SO WE HAVE LOTS OF AWARDS TO GO AROUND.
SO I WANT TO INTRODUCE TO YOU OUR COACH, JIMMY ELDER.
HE'S GOING TO COME AND SAY. THIS IS THE WAY TO IN THE WAY THE WOMEN'S CLASS NOT TALK MUCH.
I'M A NATIVE TEXAN WITH A SCHOOL IN WEST STATE UNIVERSITY AND A SOCCER SCHOLARSHIP.
I WAS A JOURNEYMAN PROFESSIONAL PLAYER FOR THREE YEARS BACK IN THE EIGHTIES.
I WENT BACK TO SCHOOL, GOT MY DEGREE, BUT GOT INTO COACHING.
MY DREAM WAS TO COACH A COLLEGE TEAM.
I HAD A BEAUTIFUL WIFE OF 39 YEARS, BY THE WAY.
AMAZING MYSELF, BUT 39 YEARS MARRIED.
I STUMBLED INTO THIS JOB EIGHT YEARS AGO, I STARTED A SOCCER COMPANY.
NEXT THING HE LEFT AND I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE OFFERED THE JOB.
[00:30:02]
SO WE STARTED THEN TO REBUILD THE PROGRAM.AND MY ASSISTANT COACHES AREN'T HERE TODAY WITH ME OR THEY COULDN'T MAKE IT OR TRAVELING.
BUT WE RECRUITED PLAYERS FROM ALL OVER THE METROPLEX, ACTUALLY ALL OVER TEXAS.
WE'VE DONE IT SINCE THE VERY FIRST YEAR OF RECRUITS.
WE FINISHED THIRD IN THE COUNTRY.
THE VERY NEXT YEAR WE WON THE NATIONAL TITLE.
WE'VE WON IT FOUR TIMES IN SIX YEARS.
NOW IT'S A IT'S A HUGE AMOUNT OF WORK.
YOU HAVE TO BE REALLY PASSIONATE TO WANT TO DO IT.
WE WE SCOUT THE ENTIRE NORTH TEXAS AREA FOR THE TOP PLAYERS THAT FIT A DALLAS COLLEGE DEGREE PLAN OBJECTIVE. THEY'RE KIDS THAT EITHER CAN'T AFFORD THE FOUR YEAR SCHOOLS WHERE THEY'RE GETTING THEIR SOCCER OFFERS OR THERE ARE KIDS THAT WANT TO STAY CLOSE TO HOME BECAUSE THEY'RE CLOSE TO THEIR FAMILY OR THEIR KIDS THAT MAYBE MAYBE DIDN'T DO AS WELL AS THEY NEEDED TO ON THE SAT.
WE SELL HEAVILY ON ON DALLAS COLLEGE, THE JUNIOR COLLEGE ROUTE.
WE HAVE A GREAT NURSING PROGRAM, A MEDICAL PROGRAM.
WE'VE GOT EDUCATION PROGRAMS. WE SIT THEIR FAMILIES DOWN IN OUR OFFICE AND WE TELL THEM THAT IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT SOCCER.
IF YOU'RE YOUNG LADY, IT'S GOING TO MAKE IT WITH US.
SHE'S GOING TO HAVE TO BE A GOOD STUDENT ATHLETE, BUT SHE'S GOING TO MAKE IT COLLEGE SPORTS.
YOU COULD PASS OUT THE SYSTEM.
FORTUNATELY, WE PROMOTE OUR TUTORING SERVICES.
WE GET FREE TUTORING AT DALLAS COLLEGE.
UNBELIEVABLE STUDENT COACHES THAT HELP OUR KIDS THROUGH ADMISSIONS.
ALL OF OUR KIDS HAVE HAD TO USE THESE.
YOU SEE THIS YOUNG LADY, MEGAN, WHERE ARE YOU? SO YOU GOT TO GO FOR THAT BABY.
THIS YOUNG LADY HERE HAS A BABY.
SO THERE ARE DIFFERENT STAGES OF YOUR LIFE.
I'M REALLY PROUD WHEN THEY COME IN.
THEY KNOW THEY'RE COMING TO A SERIOUS SOCCER PROGRAM.
THEY THINK THEY'RE COMING TO A SERIOUS PROGRAM UNTIL WE START.
THEN THEY KNOW THEY'RE COMING TO A SERIOUS TIME.
AND IN SPORTS, YOU'VE GOT TO SAY NO.
THE MORE COMPETITIVE THE SPORT, THE MORE YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SAY NO.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOU HAVE TO SUFFER THROUGH HARD TIMES.
AND THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THESE YOUNG LADIES DO.
I GOT SCHOLARSHIP ON THE OTHER PART.
MOST KIDS GO TO FOUR YEAR SKULL.
I WANT TO SAY EVERY ONE OF THESE YOUNG LADIES WORKS.
NOW, I TELL THEM WHEN THEY COME IN IN AUGUST THAT, LADIES, THAT BABY'S NOT BOTHERING ME.
WE LOVE LISTENING, BUT SHE DOESN'T LOVE EVERYBODY ELSE.
WE JUST WANTED TO COME IN, LADIES.
THREE WEEKS. SCHOOL IS GOING TO START.
THEN YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO DO YOUR SCHOOLING AND THEN YOU HAVE TO GO TO WORK.
AND IT'S GOING TO BE FUN UNTIL YOU HIT THAT.
AND THEN WE GET TO MIDSEASON WHERE WE'RE TRAVELING.
YOU GOT TO GET BACK. YOU'VE GOT TO PICK YOUR BABY, YOU GOT TO GET YOUR GRADES.
SO YOU GOT TO WAKE UP, GO TO WORK, AND YOU DON'T WANT TO GO TO WORK.
SO WE GOT IN AT 12:00 LAST NIGHT, BUT YOU'VE GOT TO DO IT.
AND SO MANY STUDENTS IN THIS COUNTRY DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS.
I WANT TO CRY. THEY HAVE CHAMPIONS ON TOP OF ALL THAT FOR CHAMPIONS.
RIGHT? WHEN IT COMES TO THE END OF THE DAY, WE PLAY MORE GAMES, WE TRAIN MORE THAN ANY OTHER DALLAS COLLEGE SCHOOL OUTSIDE VOICE BECAUSE OUR SEASON GETS EXTENDED.
THEY HAVE TO WORK MORE. THEY HAVE TO STRUGGLE MORE.
BUT AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF WE CAN WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, THEY WILL ALL TURN AND LOVE ME.
SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT THAT WE WIN IT.
AND I TRY REALLY HARD BECAUSE I KNOW THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH AN AWFUL LOT.
[00:35:02]
SO I'M REALLY PROUD OF THESE GIRLS I'D LIKE TO INTRODUCE.AND WE ONLY HAVE TEN TODAY BECAUSE THE OTHERS ARE WORKING.
WE TRY TO GET THEM HERE, BUT WE JUST COULDN'T.
SO I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO SAY YOUR NAME, THE HIGH SCHOOL, THE CITY YOU'RE FROM.
AND IF YOU WANT ANY AWARDS, GO AHEAD AND TELL US, PLEASE.
I WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL AND I WON MVP.
AND WHAT ARE YOU STUDYING? AND I'M STUDYING NURSING.
AND I WAS LIKE, SECOND CAME ON, AND THEN I'M STUDYING EDUCATION.
I'M FROM DALLAS, TEXAS. I WENT TO JUDGE SANDERS LAW MAGNET, AND I WAS STUDYING.
AND I WON. ALTERNATIVELY, I'M ALEX, A SOPHOMORE FROM MCKINNEY, TEXAS.
MORE HIGH SCHOOL AND FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE AND NURSING GRADE.
I WON THE NJCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK, SECOND ALL-AMERICAN TEAM AND FIRST ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM.
MY NAME IS. I LIVE IN MINNESOTA.
I WENT TO LAKE DALLAS HIGH SCHOOL AND I'M FROM LAKE DALLAS, TEXAS.
I GOT ACTUALLY, I'M STUDYING ASSOCIATES OF SCIENCE AND I GOT FIRST TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE.
TEAM CAPTAIN. SORRY. MY NAME IS BAYLEE CLARK, AND I WENT TO DALLAS HIGH SCHOOL.
I'M FROM TEXAS AND I'M STUDYING ASSOCIATES IN SCIENCE.
AND I GOT ALL-AMERICAN FIRST CONFERENCE.
SOME OTHER ONES. I'M ALI BABA.
I WENT TO BILLY BRYANT HIGH SCHOOL.
I'M STUDYING KINESIOLOGY, AND I GOT SECOND-TEAM ALL-CONFERENCE.
SHE KICKED FOOTBALL FROM HIGH SCHOOL ON OUR BOYS FOOTBALL TEAM.
I WENT TO NORTHWEST HIGH SCHOOL.
I'M WORKING TOWARDS MY ASSOCIATES IN SCIENCE.
AND THEN I GOT THE SECOND TEAM ALL CONFERENCE.
I WENT TO PROSPER HIGH SCHOOL.
I WON A PLAYER OF THE WEEK ONE WEEK AND ALL.
ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM AND FIRST TEAM ALL CONFERENCE.
THIS IS SAMMY, AND HE JUST TURNED 101 AT THE NATIONAL TOURNAMENT.
THIS IS JUST A COUPLE OF TIDBITS.
THIS IS OUR SECOND OUR FIRST EVER BACK TO BACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.
SHE'S BEEN OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR.
SHE'S HELD US ALL ACCOUNTABLE.
SHE'S PROMOTED PROPER ATHLETICS.
SHE'S PROMOTED TAKING CARE OF OUR KIDS, DOING THE RIGHT THINGS, MAKING SURE THEIR GRADES ARE GOOD.
BY THE WAY, WHO'S GOT A 3.0 OR HIGHER GPA? STEP FORWARD, PLEASE.
4.0 GPAS ALL SAY WE HAVE THREE UP FOUR SCHOLAR ALL AMERICAN THROUGH THE UNITED SOCCER COACHES WHICH IS A COMPLETE INDEPENDENT COACHING GROUP.
IT'S THE NATIONALS, ONE OF THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD.
WE'VE GOT THREE OF THEM UP FOR FOUR NATIONAL ACADEMICS, PLAYER OF THE YEAR, AND WE HAVE WON OUR FOUR NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR ALL JUNIOR COLLEGE, WHICH IS A HUGE AWARD. SHE DOESN'T KNOW IT YET.
I WON'T TELL WHO SHE IS, BUT SHE'S UP.
I GOT A CALL TODAY. THANK YOU, MS..
JONES, FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE FOR US, MS..
JONES. THANK YOU FOR YOU GUYS.
BECAUSE WITHOUT THIS, WITHOUT ATHLETICS, THESE KIDS DON'T GET A CHANCE TO COME TO DALLAS COLLEGE C DALLAS COLLEGE WE DON'T GET A CHANCE TO SHOW THE NATION DALLAS COLLEGE AND BELIEVE ME, WE'RE ON THE RANKINGS.
WE'RE ON NUMBER ONE RANKINGS SINCE THE FIRST WEEK.
ARROWS, BULLETS, EVERYTHING COMING AT US.
WE SURVIVE AND WE PUT BROOKHAVEN ON THE MAP.
I WENT TO THE UNITED SOCCER COACHES SHOW THREE OR FOUR YEARS AGO.
PEOPLE CAN MODEL OVER THE WORLD AND THEY HAVE THESE GIANT BILLBOARDS OF NCAA DIVISION ONE, TOP 20, DIVISION TWO, DIVISION THREE, JUNIOR COLLEGE BROOKHAVEN WAS NUMBER ONE ON THE LIST.
I TOOK A BIG PICTURE WITH THAT.
I HAD A LOT OF PEOPLE SAY, HEY, MAN, WE SAW YOU DURING YOUR SCHOOL UP THERE.
[00:40:03]
SO WE TRY TO DO WHAT WE CAN FOR THE COLLEGE, BUT WE'RE SO GRATEFUL TO THE COLLEGE FOR ALLOWING US.YEAH, WELL, FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU, COACH, FOR FOR THAT WITH YOUR PASSION, FOR YOUR COMMITMENT AND FOR SHARING IN THAT PASSION AND SHARING IT WITH EACH OF OUR STUDENTS.
AND AS I SAID WITH THE PREVIOUS GROUP, YOU KNOW, WE ARE SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU REPRESENT, ALL THE ACCOMPLISH AND PERSEVERE TO BE ABLE TO BE HERE AND CELEBRATE IN THIS.
AND AGAIN, WE'RE PROUD TO BE PART OF THE DALLAS.
TODAY'S. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO ALL THE GREAT THINGS THAT.
OKAY. SO NOW WE WILL CONTINUE WITH ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE 10TH.
[6. Chancellor and Board Announcements]
THANK YOU, MADAM CHAIR. SO WE'RE GOING TO GO FROM ATHLETIC CONFERENCE TO SOMETHING EXCITING.THE SACS, CMC ACCREDITATION CONFERENCE THAT SOME OF OUR TEAM HAS BEEN JUST RETURNING FROM ATLANTA.
[00:45:03]
AND I WILL TELL YOU, I'M PROUD THAT DANIELLE, WHO YOU ALL ARE FAMILIAR WITH, INCLUDES OUR INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS.PRESENTED YESTERDAY, I THINK IT WAS ON SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE THAT WE DO PRESENTED ALONG WITH OUR SEC'S CMC VICE PRESIDENT LIAISON.
SO WE'RE WELL REPRESENTED IN THAT CONVERSATION.
WE HAD A NUMBER OF MEMBERS OF OUR TEAM THAT WERE THERE AND ARE STILL THERE.
BUT BUT I CERTAINLY MENTION THAT AS WE HAVE OUR ONGOING CONVERSATION ABOUT ACCREDITATION.
AND SO I'VE GOT A SMALL GROUP THAT INCLUDES SOME OF OUR FACULTY LEADERS AND AN ACADEMIC TEAM.
AND I'VE ASKED CHAIR BRAVO TO JOIN WITH A SMALL GROUP THAT IS GOING TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF A FIELD TRIP, BUT ENGAGE A LITTLE BIT WITH HLC NEXT MONTH SO WE CAN ASK SOME MORE DIRECT QUESTIONS WITH THEM ONE ON ONE.
AS WE CONTINUE TO EVALUATE OUR ACCREDITATION, OUR CREDIT ARE MOVING FORWARD.
SO I JUST WANT TO MENTION THAT ANOTHER THING I WANTED TO MENTION IS WE'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATION WITH PARKLAND HOSPITAL ABOUT PROVIDING SOME SPACE AT THE RICHMOND CAMPUS ON THE RICHMOND FOOTPRINT FOR A COMMUNITY HEALTH CLINIC. AND SO PARKLAND IS HOSTING A PUBLIC FORUM SOMETIME IN THE COMING WEEKS TO SEEK INPUT ON THAT FROM THE COMMUNITY AS WE CONTINUE TO EVALUATE TOGETHER WITH PARKLAND, WHAT MAY MAKE SENSE IN TERMS OF A PARTNERSHIP WITH US IN PARKLAND TO PROVIDE THOSE SERVICES IN THAT AREA.
AND THE OTHER THING IS I'D LIKE TO ASK JOHN TO COME UP.
YOU ALL ARE ALWAYS WATCHING AND PAYING ATTENTION AND KEEPING EVERYBODY STRAIGHT WITH THE FISCAL MANAGEMENT AND OPERATIONS OF THIS INSTITUTION. I'M PROUD OF THE WORK THAT THE TEAM HAS DONE.
AND SO WE RECENTLY GOT NOTICE OF THAT.
WE MAINTAINED OUR TRIPLE-A BOND RATING.
AND SO, JOHN, YOU WANT TO MENTION THAT A LITTLE BIT? YEAH. I'LL TALK ABOUT EACH YEAR.
WE STARTED THIS TEN YEARS AGO.
WE GOT NOTIFICATION JUST LAST WEEK THAT WE RECEIVED THE A GOVERNOR FINANCE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION.
THAT'S A MOUTHFUL FOR OUR ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT, WHICH YOU'RE SEEING.
THAT IS REALLY FOR LAST YEARS BECAUSE THEY'RE ALWAYS ONE YEAR IN.
BUT THIS IS TEN YEARS OF CONSECUTIVE AWARDS IN WHICH WE HAVE.
THIS WAS TESCO'S FIRST YEAR OF REALLY PUSHING THE WHOLE THING THROUGH.
SO YOU NOW HAVE TO GET THAT SAME AWARD NEXT YEAR BECAUSE THE BAR HAS BEEN SET.
ALSO I HAVE TO THANK HER VERY MUCH.
AND ALSO THIS WAS THE CHANCELLOR'S INAUGURAL MEETING WITH OUR RATING AGENCIES.
AND BOTH FIRMS REAFFIRMED OUR TRIPLE-A RATING NOT ONLY ON THE NEW BOND FOR ISSUING, BUT ALSO IN THE OUTSTANDING, WHICH IS GETTING TO BE NEXT TO NOTHING BUT ON THE OUTSTANDING BONDS WITH AN OUTLOOK OF STABLE, WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH A GOOD RATING FROM BOTH OF THE RATING AGENCIES.
SO THANKS TO STAFF AND EVERYBODY ELSE.
AND THANK YOU, MR. CHANCELLOR. YOU DIDN'T BLOW IT, YOU KNOW.
YOU PUT TRIPLE A RATING AND IT IS REALLY UP TO ALL THE THINGS THAT THIS BOARD HAS ALWAYS PUT IN FRONT OF US TO BE ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD AND BE VERY FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ONE FOR ALL.
THERE'S ONLY WE'RE ONE OF FOUR IN THIS STATE WITH THE TRIPLE A RATING AND ONE ARE A DOZEN OR SO.
I REALLY DON'T HAVE TOTAL INFORMATION, JUST WHAT I GATHER.
BUT US LONE, KAREN AND COLLIN ARE THE FOUR OF THE TEXAS THAT HAVE TRIPLE A RATING FROM THEIR.
SO THIS IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT THE BOARD NEEDS TO BE PROUD OF.
THAT'S WHAT UNDERWRITING COUNCIL HAS.
OUR UNDERWRITERS HAVE SUGGESTED THAT IT'S THE PROPER TIMING IN THE MARKET TO EFFECT THE BEST RATES WE CAN HAVE AS WE ISSUE THIS FIRST, BUT ENDED UP BEING ON THIS ON THE SHEET 337 MILLION.
I DO HAVE A STORY ROB RECOGNIZED AS WELL.
WE'RE CLOSING THAT 168 PAGE PACKAGE TOGETHER THAT YOU READ SINCE I GOT IT TO YOU ON TUESDAY NIGHT.
[00:50:06]
WE WERE ALSO PUT TOGETHER AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT, WHICH IS ABOUT ANOTHER 150 PAGE DOCUMENT THAT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THOSE TYPES.BUT THEY'RE BOTH DONE. AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK THAT YOU DID ON THAT.
CAN YOU SELL US THOSE TWO RATING AGENCY REPORTS TO TIE THIS OVER TO THE NEXT CHAPTER? YES, IT DOES.
SO THEY'RE THEY'RE VERY PROUD OF WHAT WE DO, WHICH ALL MAKE IT EASY.
I WOULD SAY, JOHN, THANK YOU FOR LETTING US KNOW THAT.
AND CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND YOUR TEAM, THE DISTRICT THAT COLLEGE HAS ALWAYS RUN VERY FISCALLY SOUND AND CONSERVATIVE TO BE GOOD STEWARDS OF THE TAXPAYER DOLLAR.
AND I THINK WE DON'T CELEBRATE OURSELVES ENOUGH BY GETTING TEN YEARS OF THIS AWARD.
AND ALSO THE RATING FROM THE THREE BOND RATING AGENCIES.
RIGHT. WE JUST DID TO THIS MAN.
I DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING TO BE THERE.
AND THEN WE NEED TO REALIZE JUST A COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS LOWER THAN TEXAS.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY THE FOUR YEARS ARE, BUT WHEN YOU THEN GO NATIONWIDE, HOW MANY THOUSANDS ARE THERE? AND WE'RE ONE OF 12, ONE OF 12.
SO WE JUST NEED TO CELEBRATE THAT.
AND HOPEFULLY THE PUBLIC REALIZES THAT WE'RE NOT WE'RE NO RUBBER STAMPS AT THIS BOARD TABLE.
WE REALLY TAKE CLOSE LOOK AT HOW THE TAXPAYER DOLLAR IS BEING ALLOCATED AND BEING TAKEN CARE OF.
QUESTION SO SEVERAL YEARS BACK, WE ACTUALLY WENT ON A BOND RATING TRIP TO NEW YORK.
DID YOU GO TO NEW YORK? NO, IT WAS VIRTUAL AND MY PHONE, BUT YEAH, IT WAS VIRTUAL.
NOWADAYS, ALMOST ALL THE AGENCIES HAVE OFFICES HERE IN DALLAS.
IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU'RE ISSUING.
THEY TAKE CARE OF ALL THEIR BUSINESS LOCALLY, WHICH MAKES THEM A LITTLE BIT BETTER.
WELL, THEY DID AWAY WITH WHAT THE GOOD LITTLE PERKS GOT.
WHAT WOULD YOU WHAT WOULD YOU SAY THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DOUBLE-A AND A TRIPLE-A MEANS ON $307? YOU KNOW, I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON THE ISSUER, BUT IT'S A MINIMUM OF FIVE BASIS POINTS AND PROBABLY AS MUCH AS 15 BASIS POINTS.
THERE'S NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THERE EXCEPT BRAGGING RIGHTS AND THE ACTUAL FINANCIAL END OF IT.
BUT IT IS STILL ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE STRIVE FOR IF WE WANT TO MAINTAIN BECAUSE IT DOES LOWER OUR INTEREST EXPENSE AND WE ARE GOING TO BE OFFERING THOSE THIS WEEK. YOU SAID I'M THIRSTY ON THURSDAY, SO PEOPLE LISTENING IN, IT'S A GREAT INVESTMENT.
THERE IS SO MUCH COMPETITION FOR OUR BONDS.
THEY USUALLY SELL WITHIN ABOUT 3 TO 5 MINUTES, ALL 337 BILLION.
AND IT'S SOME VERY LARGE INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS.
AND WE'VE HAD OUR EXCELLENT UNDERWRITING.
OF RBC CAPITAL, WHO IS THE LEAD UNDERWRITER FOR MINORITY AND ONE TWO REGIONAL.
FLORIDA. AND SO WE'RE REALLY HAPPY ABOUT WHO WE PUT TOGETHER.
AND I GIVE FISHER CREDIT ON THAT.
SO THAT HAS BEEN TURNED OVER TO HER FOR THE LAST THREE OR FIVE YEARS, THE MEETING WITH THEM AND UNDERSTANDING WHAT THEY DO UNDER TRYING TO BE ABLE TO SAY THAT THEY KNOW WHAT WE'RE DOING, BUT ALSO BE ABLE TO EVALUATE THEM AS TO WHAT KIND OF JOB THEY CAN DO FOR US.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WE'RE GOING TO GET? SEE HOW GOOD YOU ARE. YOU KNOW, I'M NOT.
IN OTHER TIMES, I PROBABLY WOULD.
I'LL EXTEND THE OFFER IF YOU WANT TO GO DOWN AND WATCH THE SALE.
YOU CAN JUST SIT THERE ON THE TRADING DESK AND WATCH OUR BONDS MAKE THE WORLD CUP.
BUT YOU CAN'T TELL US THE RATES.
[00:55:02]
I HAVEN'T PICKED THE UP. YEAH.THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN. APPRECIATE THAT.
WELL, SO TOMORROW I'LL BE IN AUSTIN TO SPEAK AT THE TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD, AND I'VE BEEN ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN A PANEL TO TALK ABOUT FISCAL MANAGEMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY. AND IT'S BECAUSE OF THE GREAT WORK THAT THIS TEAM DOES.
ALSO WANT TO SAY, YOU KNOW, THIS IS THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR BETWEEN THANKSGIVING AND AND DECEMBER HOLIDAYS WHERE, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE ARE REALLY THINKING ABOUT WHAT WHAT NEEDS ARE IN OUR COMMUNITY.
AND I APPRECIATE THE LEADERSHIP OF TRUSTEE FLORES FOR PULLING TOGETHER A GROUP OF THE HISPANIC CHAMBER LEADERS AND THE DALLAS BLACK CHAMBER LEADERSHIP THAT WE HOSTED ON OUR WEST CAMPUS AND ASKING EVERYONE TO SUPPORT OUR CLOTHING PANTRY IN THAT. SO PEOPLE BROUGHT GENTLY USED ITEMS THAT SUPPORTS MUCH OF WHAT YOU HEARD DR.
AND AND AGAIN, JUST KNOW THAT THAT'S GOING TO BE PUT TO USE IN A IN A POSITIVE WAY.
NOW, ON A LITTLE BIT OF A DOWNER, I'D LIKE TO ASK CHIEF HILL TO COME UP.
THIS IS ONE OF THOSE BITTERSWEET MOMENTS WHERE WE RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE AND A LITTLE BIT SAD THAT CHIEF HILL HAS LET US KNOW THAT SHE HAS GRADUATED FROM DALLAS COLLEGE AND SHE IS GOING TO USC TO TAKE ON A SIGNIFICANT ROLE.
THEY HAVE NO WAY THEY COMPETE WITH IT IN DALLAS VERY OFTEN.
BUT SO MUCH, YOU KNOW, WHEN CHIEF HILL CAME IN AT A TIME, WE WERE JUST BEGINNING TO FIRST OF ALL, WE'LL TALK ABOUT HOW WE CAN CONSOLIDATE OUR POLICE OPERATIONS.
SHE ACTUALLY CAME HERE SOONER THAN SHE PLANNED BECAUSE OF THAT TRAGEDY TO ASSUME LEADERSHIP AND HELP PUT US ON THE RIGHT PATH FOR FOR OUR POLICE OPERATIONS AND CERTAINLY DONE AN AMAZING JOB IN THE DAY TO DAY OF THOSE CHALLENGES AND SOME EMERGENCY SITUATIONS THAT WE'VE HAD DURING THAT TIME.
AND SO, CHIEF HILL, WE'RE GOING TO WE'RE GOING TO MISS YOU.
WE APPRECIATE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE.
I AM SO THANKFUL THIS SIX YEARS AS IT'S BEEN.
IT FEELS LIKE A COUPLE OF YEARS, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY BEEN SIX YEARS.
AND I'M SO THANKFUL THAT YOU TOOK A CHANCE.
WE HAVE A VERY STRONG POLICE DEPARTMENT, A STRONG TEAM, AND EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT OUR MISSION IS STUDENT SUCCESS IS TO MAKE IT OPEN, WELCOMING, ACCESSIBLE, BUT YET SAFE FOR EVERYBODY, OUR STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF.
AND I COULDN'T WE COULD NOT DO IT.
AND I CAN TELL YOU USQ, I'M EXCITED ABOUT IT.
BUT THE REALITY WHAT THEY TOLD ME AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN AFTER SIX DIFFERENT INTERVIEWS AND BOARDS THAT I'VE BEEN THROUGH, THAT THE FACT THAT I CAME HERE, MY RESUME SOLD ITSELF BECAUSE I'M CONSOLIDATING SEVEN POLICE DEPARTMENTS WHERE I COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT BEING HERE.
IT'S I'LL SEE YOU LATER BECAUSE TEXAS IS HOME, ALWAYS WILL BE HOME.
SO THE USC WILL BE HERE IN THE COTTON BOWL.
SO. I'LL BE HERE FOR YOU AS WELL.
DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HELP THEIR FOOTBALL TEAM? WELL, NO, NO, BUT YOU PLAY WITH A TORN HAMSTRING.
IT'S KIND OF HARD TO FINISH THE GAME, SO.
AND SHE WAS. WHAT'S THAT NEW TITLE AT USC? I'M ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OF SAFETY RESPONSIBLE.
IT'S A BIG RESPONSIBILITY. THEY TELL YOU THE COST OF LIVING OUT THERE IS IS BEYOND SHOCKING.
[01:00:04]
I ALMOST CURSE WHEN I SAW THE HOUSING CRISIS OUT THERE.I'LL SEE YOU LATER. SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
AND WE HEARD FROM TODAY HEARING THE PASSION FROM OUR COACHES AND HEARING WHAT OUR STUDENT ATHLETES GOING THROUGH AND THE WORK THAT OUR TEAM DOES EVERY DAY WITH THE PRESENTATIONS THAT YOU HEARD.
YOU KNOW, 2022 HAS BEEN AN INTERESTING YEAR FOR ALL OF US.
IT'S CERTAINLY BEEN AN INTERESTING YEAR FOR DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND THERE'S A LOT LEFT THAT WE STILL HAVE TO DO.
WE HAVE A LOT TO CELEBRATE, BUT WE KNOW THAT THOSE THAT WE SERVE HAVE TREMENDOUS CHALLENGES.
THANK YOU. DO WE HAVE ANY TRUSTEES WITH ANNOUNCEMENT? TRUSTEE BOYD. I JUST WANT TO SAY WE AGAIN HAD A VERY SUCCESSFUL VETERAN'S CELEBRATION IN MOUNTAIN VIEW THIS YEAR.
AND AND IT'S JUST A PROGRAM THAT'S GOING TO GROW AND GROW EACH YEAR.
AND WE HAVE DECIDED WITH THE TEAM, I JUST CAN'T THANK THE TEAM ENOUGH.
WE'RE GOING TO MOVE IT AROUND.
WE'RE GOING TO GO TO A DIFFERENT CAMPUS EACH YEAR THAT MEETS EACH AREA OF OF OUR CAMPUSES.
SO WE HAVEN'T SELECTED THE CAMPUS NEXT YEAR.
BUT WHEN WE DO, I KNOW WE'LL PICK UP ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEERS FROM FROM THAT PARTICULAR CAMPUS.
WE CHANGED AND HELPED AGAIN, A LOT OF VETERANS LIVES THAT DAY WITH A GIFT CERTIFICATE FOR A MEAL, AS YOU HEARD WHAT A MEAL AND THE GIFT CERTIFICATE MEANS TO AN INDIVIDUAL. WE RECOGNIZE AND HONORED A VERY HIGH HONORED VETERAN AT OUR CELEBRATION, WHICH EACH YEAR WE PICK A VETERAN TO BRING FORTH TO HONOR EACH YEAR.
AND SO I THINK IT WAS JUST ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR.
AND I THINK THE TEAM AND I THINK ALL OF THE STAFF THAT SUPPORTED IT.
AND SO I THINK ANOTHER THING THAT I THINK AS WAS KIND OF SAID EARLIER, I THINK THAT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DON'T WE DON'T DO ENOUGH OF IS THAT WE WE NEED TO STICK OUR CHEST OUT MORE FREQUENTLY.
AND WHATEVER GROUP WE'RE AT, WHETHER IT'S A ROTARY CLUB, A CHURCH MEETING OR WHATEVER, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WE KNOW IS HAPPENING IN DALLAS COLLEGE. WE JUST NEED WE JUST REALLY HAVE TO BE GRANDPARENTS, WRITERS.
I HAVE A FEW NUMBERS I'LL BE CALLING RIGHT AFTER THE MEETING.
SO AND I THINK ANY OF YOU KNOW, ANY OF THE PEOPLE IN THE PRESS, THE TESTIMONIALS TODAY, I'VE ALREADY SPOKE WITH THAT STAFF MEMBER AND THAT INDIVIDUAL, AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE A GUEST AT MY ROTARY CLUB.
AND WE'RE GOING TO START WE TELL THAT STORY.
SO I JUST WANT US TO DO THAT MORE.
SO I COULDN'T BE PROUDER TODAY.
WELL, I'M GOING TO THROW A LITTLE MONKEY WRENCH IN ALL THE GOOD THAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT.
AND TRUSTEE BOYD IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS.
[01:05:05]
SO IT KIND OF MADE ME MORE AWARE TO LOOK AT TO LOOK FOR THOSE THINGS, BUT TO JUST NOTICE.SO I WAS AT A MEETING IN FRONT OF THE PLACE IN THE BUILDING, AND LANDSCAPING IS JUST ATROCIOUS.
THERE'S WEEDS, IT'S JUST AWFUL.
AND THAT WE'RE DALLAS COLLEGE IS SO COULD WE AT A SUBSEQUENT MEETING, HAVE A REPORT ON WHO HANDLES OUR LANDSCAPING AND WHAT THE SCHEDULE IS, WHAT THE STANDARD IS FOR, HOW WE KEEP OUR CAMPUSES KEPT UP AND JUST MAKE THEM LOOK AS BEST AS THEY CAN.
I GUESS I WANT TO GO TO THE DEFENSE OF WHY IT'S THE WAY IT IS.
THE BEZOS BEZOS ACADEMY WAS GOING TO BE IN THAT BUILDING.
AND THEY PURPOSELY WE'RE GOING TO USE A CONSTRUCTION SITE FOR WHERE THAT LANDSCAPING AND THEN RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE PEOPLE THIS IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STAGING, A STAGING AREA FOR CONSTRUCTION, NOT ENOUGH ROOM.
SO THEY CHANGE THE LOCATION AND AFTER THE SEASON WAS OVER.
SO THERE'S NOT IT'S NOT AN EXCUSE.
JUST THAT ONE AREA YOU CAN STAND UP AND TELL TELLING IF WE HAVE NOT HAD THIS CONVERSATION.
IT'S GOING TO BE NO, THERE'S NOT ENOUGH SPACE THERE.
ALL RIGHT. THIS IS THE ENTRANCE.
YES, THIS IS THE ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING.
COULDN'T BE MORE THAN FIVE, SIX FEET.
SO ANYWAY, I THINK IT WOULD BE GOOD TO KNOW WHAT.
WHAT WHAT IS THE STANDARD THAT WE TRY TO KEEP OUR LANDSCAPING IN OUR FACILITY? I THINK FACILITIES IN TERMS OF MAINTENANCE, YOU'VE GOT A GOOD SCHEDULE AND THAT'S TAKEN CARE OF AND WE INVEST MILLIONS OF DOLLARS FOR THAT.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE LANDSCAPING? BECAUSE THAT SENDS A LOT TO SAY.
WE HAVE A BIG SCHEDULE FOR FEBRUARY FOR THE WORK.
ANY OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS ABOUT THIS BY THE ANNOUNCEMENTS? OK. JUST HAVE A COUPLE OF THINGS.
I WANT TO CONGRATULATE OUR CHANCELLOR ON A COUPLE RECOGNITIONS THAT HE RECEIVED IN THE LAST MONTH.
