WHEN I WAS CHANCELLOR OF UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS IT PUZZLED ME HOW DIFFICULT IT WAS TO WORK OUT TRANSFER AGREEMENTS AND OTHER AGREEMENTS AND THIS DISTRICT AND THIS BOARD, THE FORMER CHANCELLOR AND CURRENT CHANCELLOR DESERVE A LOT OF CREDIT FOR WHAT WAS A SENSITIVE TRANSITION BUT W AS A SENIOR UNIVERSITY USED TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH SEVEN DIFFERENT REVIEW PROCESSES ENDING UP WITH SEVEN DIFFERENT WAYS FOR STUDENTS CREDIT HOURS THAT MIGHT OR MIGHT NOT TRANSFER.

ALONG WITH OTHER ISSUES INVOLVED BUT THAT IS A BIG STEP FORWARD AND THANK YOU.

AND CERTAINLY, A TRANSFORMATIVE PROGRAM FOR THOSE THAT GO THROUGH, THERE'S A LARGE ALUMNI NETWORK AT THIS POINT AND I JUST WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO STOP AND RECOGNIZE AND CELEBRATE THAT PROGRAM A LITTLE BIT AS WE RECENTLY HAD A CEREMONY AROUND THAT.

AND SOMETHING THAT, AND A LOT OF PEOPLE GET TO HAVE WHEN THEY'RE GOING THROUGH COLLEGE.

THE GOLDMAN SACHS 10,000 BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP WITH DALLAS COLLEGE STARTED IN 2015.

GOLDMAN SACHS HAS CURRICULUM THAT THEY PROVIDED FOR US TO TEACH SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE REGION.

THE SMALL BUSINESSES GO THROUGH FAIRLY INTENSIVE PROGRAM WHERE THEY LEARN THE INS AND OUTS OF GROWING THEIR BUSINESS.

AND WITH THAT THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM STARTED WITH THE 10,000 SMALL BUSINESSES.

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS IN DALLAS COLLEGE TO WORK WITH SOME OF THE SMALL BUSINESSES THAT HAVE GRADUATED FROM THE PROGRAM.

SO FAR THIS YEAR, WE HAD ABOUT 45 STUDENTS GO THROUGH THE PROGRAM.

AND SOME OF THE UNIQUE THINGS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM, IS THE STUDENTS GET PAID $20 AN HOUR, THEY COMMIT 10 TO 20 HOURS PER WEEK TO BE IN THE PROGRAM, AND THEY DO A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS TO DO MARKETING PLANS AND WORK ON BUSINESS STRATEGY AND INVENTORY, FINANCE, THEY GET INVOLVED IN THE BUSINESS AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT FACETS OF IT SO THEIR LEARNING REALLY INTENSIVELY GETTING PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE OF THE CLASSROOM AND IN SMALL BUSINESSES.

ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT THEY GET IS THAT THEY GET INTO A REALLY TIGHT NETWORK.

THE SMALL BUSINESSES PROGRAM HAS ABOUT A RETENTION RATE OR I THINK IT IS 86 PERCENT OF THE SMALL BUSINESSES ARE GOING TO THE PROGRAM, AND OF DOING BUSINESS TOGETHER SO THEY REALLY HAVE CREATED THEIR OWN COMMUNITY OF BUSINESSES AND PEOPLE WHO WORK TOGETHER THIS IS A LIST OF SMALL BUSINESSES AND THE STUDENTS HAVE GONE TO THE PROGRAMS SO IF YOU SEE ONE, THAT'S NEARBY HOP IN AND SAY HI AM SURE THEY LOVE TO SEE YOU AND YOU MIGHT WANT TO SEE ONE OF OUR STUDENTS THERE.

THIS IS THE CLOSING CEREMONY, THE GRADUATION CEREMONY.

WE HAVE A REALLY GREAT TEAM LED BY CHRISTIAN THOMAS WHO RUNS THE PROGRAM, CHRIS BRADSHAW IS ANOTHER PERSON WHO'S DONE REALLY GOOD TO THE PROGRAM THE STUDENTS ARE OBVIOUSLY HAPPY TO GRADUATE AND I THINK THAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

WE ALSO HELD A ROUNDTABLE SESSION WITH CONGRESSMAN COLIN ALLRED AND SO HE, THE PARTNER GLOBAL HEAD OF CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT AND PRESIDENT OF THE GOLDMAN SACHS FOUNDATION.

THEY TALK ABOUT WORKFORCE AND TEXAS AND DALLAS AND THE CREATED UNIQUE EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS TO HEAR WHAT CONGRESSMEN ARE DOING TO HELP SMALL BUSINESSES AND LISTEN TO THE SMALL BUSINESSES AND THE INTERNS TALK ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE TO HELP THEM GROW.

THE LAST SLIDE, AGAIN, HERE IS AFTER THE ROUNDTABLE YOU KNOW, EVERYONE GRADUATED FROM THE PROGRAM WITH A LOT OF LEARNINGS AND WE HAVE EVEN HAD SEVERAL STUDENTS COME BACK FOR ANOTHER SEMESTER, TO REPEAT THEIR INTERNSHIP WITH THE SAME COMPANY SO WE ARE SEEING A LOT OF REPEAT BUSINESS FROM THE DALLAS COLLEGE STUDENTS AND BOTH MS. POMPEII AND REPRESENTATIVE ALREADY HAD GREAT THINGS TO SAY ABOUT

THE DALLAS COLLEGE STUDENTS AND THEIR COMMITMENT TO THE PROGRAM AND HOW WELL THEY REPRESENTED DALLAS COLLEGE SO THANK YOU TO THEM.

SO, AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS PROGRAM, STUDENTS COULD INTERACT WITH SOME FOLKS THEY MAY NOT GET TO INTERACT WITH OTHERWISE.

WE RECENTLY HAD A CEREMONY TO ANNOUNCE THE FIRST TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

LED BY.] WHO YOU WILL HEAR FROM IN A MINUTE AND PARTNERING WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT WE HAVE FOLKS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR HERE TO HELP KICK THAT OFF AND SO WE'VE GOT A COUPLE OF STUDENTS TO HEAR FROM.

I JUST SAID YOUR TALKING POINTS, SORRY.

THIS NEW PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR SCHOOL OF EDUCATION IN RICHARDSON ISD REALLY EXEMPLIFIES OUR WORK IN THE NEW COLLEGE STRUCTURE AND ACADEMICS.

NOW MORE THAN EVER, WE KNOW THAT OUR EMPLOYER PARTNERS ARE NEED OF TOP TALENT TO MEET THEIR WORKFORCE NEEDS.

AND THIS TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP SHOWS THAT THE POWER OF PARTNERSHIP, WE BEEN ABLE TO CREATE INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS, WITH A KEY COMMUNITY PARTNER.

THIS APPRENTICESHIP MODEL ALSO HIGHLIGHTS THE POWER OF LEVERAGING THE TALENT THAT EXISTS ACROSS OUR DIFFERENT DALLAS COLLEGE OPERATIONAL AREAS AND IN THIS CASE, SCHOOL OF EDUCATION WORKED HAND-IN-HAND WITH WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT AND STUDENT SUCCESS, TO BRING THIS PROJECT TO LIFE.

WITH THAT, BRING UP THE VICE PROVOST FOR THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION AND WE WILL SHARE A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE PROGRAM AS WELL AS INTRODUCE AND RECOGNIZE OUR FRIENDS AND PARTNERS AT RICHARDSON ISD.

AND THESE TWO LADIES BESIDE ME THEY REALLY THE BRAINS BEHIND THIS OPERATION.

IT IS A REALLY EXCITING TIME TO BE IN THE EDUCATIVE PREPARATION SPACE.

EACH YEAR, STATE OF TEXAS HIRES AROUND 40,000 NEW TEACHERS.

BUT EACH YEAR, THE PAST FEW YEARS, WE ARE ONLY CERTIFYING AROUND HALF OF THAT NUMBER.

AND THIS IS PROBLEMATIC BECAUSE THERE IS A HUGE TEACHER SHORTAGE IN THIS REGION AND IN THE STATE AND IT IS ONLY GETTING WORSE.

PEOPLE ARE NOW LOOKING TO US AT DALLAS COLLEGE TO HELP SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

YESTERDAY, SARAH AND I WERE AT UT AUSTIN FOR STATEWIDE CONVENING OF EDUCATOR PREPARATION LEADERS.

AMONG THEM, THE UT PRESIDENT, THE HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATOR BOARD COMMISSIONER, HARRISON KELLER AND JOHN FITZPATRICK OF EDUCATE TEXAS, ALL SOUNDED THE ALARM.

THE ECONOMIC WELL-BEING OF OUR STATE LIES IN OUR ABILITY TO EQUIP OUR STUDENTS WITH HIGH QUALITY EDUCATORS.

AND THROUGHOUT THIS CONVENIENCE THEY CONTINUOUSLY POINTED TO COMMUNITY COLLEGE AS BEING A KEY PLAYER IN SOLVING THE PROBLEM.

THE FIRST OF ITS KIND TEACHER APPRENTICESHIP IN TEXAS, BEING BUILT RIGHT HERE IN DALLAS COLLEGE, IS AN EXAMPLE OF A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM THAT IS SCALABLE AND ALREADY BEING RECOGNIZED IN OUR STATE AS BEING REPLICABLE.

THIS PROVIDES THE CURRENT STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SECURE EMPLOYMENT WITH

SCHOOL DISTRICT PARTNERS, WHILE ALSO PERFORMING A BACHELORS DEGREE IN TEACHER CERTIFICATION.

THIS IS A WIN-WIN FOR OUR STUDENTS AND SCHOOL DISTRICT PARTNERS.

BECAUSE STUDENTS ARE HELP FILLING IMMEDIATE WORKFORCE VACANCIES AS EDUCATIONAL AIDS WHILE ALSO HELPING THE DISTRICT PLAN FOR THEIR FUTURE TEACHER PIPELINE NEEDS.

IN THE TRADITIONAL MODEL, THE STUDENTS WOULD BE EARNING ZERO DOLLARS.

OUR MODEL, THEY WILL BE EARNING $30,000 AS EMPLOYEES OF THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

AND UPON COMPLETION OF THE ONE YEAR APPRENTICESHIP, THERE WILL BE A FULL-TIME TEACHING JOB WAITING FOR THEM AND WHAT THEY WILL DOUBLE THEIR SALARY TO $60,000 AS FIRST-YEAR TEACHERS.

ONE OTHER THING I MIGHT ADD IS, AS BEING RECOGNIZED AS A DEPARTMENT OF LABOR APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM, THE STUDENTS ALSO HAVE ACCESS TO FREE TUITION.

IMAGINE THAT, A DEGREE PATHWAY FOR FREE, LEADING TO A FIRST YEAR JOB OF $60,000.

IN CLOSING, I WANT TO THANK THE CHANCELLOR, DOCTOR FLOYD AND THE BOARD OF COURSE, FOR CONTINUING TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOOL OF EDUCATION.

TO TAKE INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO SOLVING OUR COMMUNITY AND INDUSTRY PARTNER PROBLEMS. THANK YOU FOR SUCH AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO START A PARTNERSHIP THAT I CAN TELL YOU RIGHT NOW, IS GOING TO CHANGE THE LIVES OF YOUR STUDENTS, AND HOURS.

WE ARE PROUD TO BE THE FOURTH MOST -- DISTRICT IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND PEOPLE THINK OF RICHARDSON ISD THEM I HAVE AN IMAGE IN THEIR MIND BUT THE REALITY IS THAT THE STRUGGLE IS REAL WHEN IT COMES TO THE TEACHER SHORTAGE.

EVERYBODY'S DEALING WITH THE SAME STRUGGLE.

AND WE CANNOT RELY ON THE TRADITIONAL PATHWAYS TO FILL THE VOID.

WE CANNOT, IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY ANYMORE.

WE ARE PROUD OF THE CANDIDATES THAT WE GET AND WE LOOK FOR ONLY THE BEST.

BUT WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS IS, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO BE INNOVATIVE AND BEING INNOVATIVE MEANS CONNECTING WITH QUALITY PARTNERS WHO CAN HELP DEVELOP NEW IDEAS, AND THAT IS WHAT WE ARE EXCITED TO BE PART OF HERE TODAY.

WE HAVE WORKED CLOSELY WITH ROB AND SARAH AND OTHERS AND I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO MEET THE TWO FRIENDS OF OURS WHO WILL COME UP AND SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEIR STORY.

ONE OF WHOM IS A GRAD BY THE WAY.

BUT, THIS MAKES A DIFFERENCE BECAUSE IT ACCOUNTS FOR DEALING WITH THE CHALLENGES IN A DIFFERENT WAY AND IF WE CAN MAKE IT AN INVESTMENT NOW, WE ARE LAYING THE GROUNDWORK FOR GREATNESS.

AND WE ARE SO EXCITED TO PARTNER WITH DALLAS COLLEGE AND WITH OUR RESIDENTS THAT WILL BE COMING IN STARTING NEXT YEAR, THEY WILL BE WORKING HAND-IN-HAND WITH A MASTER TEACHER AND SOME OF OUR MOST CAMPUSES THEY WORK WITH STUDENT POPULATION THAT NEEDS STRONG EDUCATORS, THE ENTIRE DISTRICT, ENTIRE STUDENT BODY NEEDS THAT.

BUT WE ARE EXCITED TO HAVE THEM WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH THAT SAME KIND OF DYNAMIC THAT OUR KIDS WHO NEED IT THE MOST ARE GOING TO GET QUALITY SUPPORT.

WHEN THEY FINISH THE SCHOOL YEAR, THEY WILL INCORPORATE WHAT THEY LEARNED AT DALLAS COLLEGE AND PUT INTO PRACTICE AND THEY WILL BE DOING EVERY SINGLE DAY.

ONE OF THE DAYS WILL BE SUBBING IN OUR CAMPUS.

THAT IS A DIFFERENCE MAKER BECAUSE I CAN TELL YOU, WHEN I DID MY STUDENT TEACHING YEARS AGO, ALMOST 30, WE DID NOT GET PAID AND YOU HAD TO HOPE FOR THE BEST.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT HOPE, THIS IS ABOUT MAKING AN INVESTMENT AND WATCHING THE INVESTMENT COME TO FRUITION.

I ATTENDED RICHLAND COLLEGE ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO TO COMPLETE MY ASSOCIATES AND

THAT'S WHAT I HEARD ABOUT THE PROGRAM STARTING FOR ANYONE THAT WANTED TO BECOME A TEACHER AND IT JUST STRUCK ME THAT I WANTED TO STAY IN DALLAS COLLEGE AND I WANTED TO CONTINUE THIS AMAZING PROGRAM.

I WENT TO THE PROGRAM WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN BUT I DO NOT REGRET ANY SECOND OF IT I HAVE MET AMAZING PEOPLE, AMAZING PROFESSORS AND AMAZING OPPORTUNITIES.

JUST RECENTLY, I HANDED MY SCHOOL YEAR WITH THE ISD AS A TUTOR AND I FELT AMAZING BEING ABLE TO ENGAGE WITH SO MANY STUDENTS AND BEING ABLE TO WORK WITH TEACHERS AND THE PRINCIPLES AND JUST BEING ABLE TO TALK TO MY PROFESSORS ABOUT IT AND HAVE THAT EXPERIENCE.

BUT I DID LOVE DISD BUT IT DIDN'T REALLY COME TO HER ABOUT RICHARDSON ISD BECOMING PART OF THE PROGRAM FOR OUR RESIDENCY.

AND I IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE, TO BECOME PART OF THAT PROGRAM.

I HAD THE MOST AMAZING 12 YEARS OF EDUCATION AT RICHARDSON.

I MET MY LIFELONG MENTOR, WHO HAS BECOME PART OF MY FAMILY AND ALL THE EDUCATORS I'VE HAD THROUGHOUT MY 12 YEARS AT RICHARDSON, HAVE ALWAYS MADE AN IMPACT ON ME AND MY EDUCATION SO I WOULD LOVE TO RETURN, AND I LOVE THAT I WAS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY AND I APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH, THAT I'LL BE ABLE TO RETURN TO RICHARDSON AND HOPEFULLY, BECOME AN AMAZING EDUCATOR LIKE THE EDUCATORS I'VE HAD BEFORE.

AND MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE CHILDREN THAT I WILL BE ABLE TO TEACH AND I WOULD LIKE TO THINK DALLAS COLLEGE AND EVERYONE INVOLVED IN MAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY POSSIBLE.

SO I WAS LIKE, WHEN THIS OPPORTUNITY CAME, I WAS LIKE MY GOSH, I GOT A GET IN THIS PROGRAM, I HAVE TO! AND I APPLIED, I SENT IN THE APPLICATION AND I WAS JUST, WHEN I GOT ACCEPTED, I WAS SO ECSTATIC, I WAS JUST LIKE GOD, JUST MAKE IT A WAY FOR ME! I AM JUST TRULY EXCITED ABOUT THIS PROGRAM.

IT HAS BEEN A DREAM COME TRUE TO ME AND HONESTLY, I DON'T THINK I WOULD ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO FINISH MY BACHELORS DEGREE.

I'M A MOTHER OF TWO SO, I DIDN'T REALLY SEE ANY OTHER OPTION.

I ALWAYS JUST HAD TO WORK AND YOU KNOW, JUST GO TO WORK.

AND NOW THAT THIS APPRENTICESHIP HAS COME ALONG, IT IS GIVE ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE ABLE TO WORK AND STILL GET PAID AND STILL BE ABLE TO DO WHAT I HAVE TO DO IS A MOTHER.

I'M TRULY APPRECIATIVE OF DALLAS COLLEGE, CREATING A COLLEGE AND I REALLY BELIEVE THIS PROGRAM WAS CREATED FOR ME.

ESPECIALLY! [LAUGHTER] BUT I'M JUST EXCITED TO GROW IN RICHARDSON ISD AND LEARN ALL HE CAN DO AND DO ALL I CAN DO FOR THE CHILDREN.

AND SO, WE ARE SEEKING TO DEVELOP MORE OPPORTUNITIES WORKING WITH OUR PARTNERS, WORKING WITH BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY TO DEVELOP THOSE WORK/LEARN MODELS SO THEY CAN GET EXPERIENCE IN THE FIELD OF STUDY, AND GET PAID WHILE DOING IT AND YOU KNOW, WE A FEW YEARS AGO, WE ENGAGED IN THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR AND WE ARE THE LARGEST FAMILY OF LARGEST NUMBER OF APPRENTICESHIPS IN THE HEALTHCARE SPACE.

AND WE KNOW THE NEED IN THE HEALTHCARE SPACE SO WE TACKLED THAT AND HAS SOUGHT TO ADDRESS THAT AND WE KNOW THE SAME THING IS TRUE WIT TEACHER SHORTAGE AS WAS MENTIONED.

AND SO, THIS IS ANOTHER WAY THAT WE ARE SEEKING TO DO THAT.

AND TO PUT A NUMBER ON THAT IS, WE THINK THERE IS A WORLD WHERE WE COULD HAVE 700 AND MORE PER YEAR.

I THINK WHAT IS REALLY EXCITING ABOUT THE APPRENTICESHIP MODEL IS, IT'S POSSIBLE FOR THE APPRENTICESHIP MODEL TO BE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE BACHELORS CAREER OF A STUDENT.

AND SO AS IT WAS MENTIONED IN THE FIRST YEAR OF THE PILOT, THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM IS IN THE SENIOR YEAR OF THE BACHELORS PROGRAM.

WE CAN BUILD WORK-BASED LEARNING BACK INTO THE JUNIOR YEAR, BACK INTO THE SOPHOMORE YEAR, AND THEN YOU CAN DO A PRE-APPRENTICESHIP IN THE FRESHMAN YEAR.

SO IT IS POSSIBLE AND OUR GOAL IS FOR THE APPRENTICESHIP TO SPAN THE BACHELORS PROGRAM.

ONCE YOU ARE REGISTERED AS APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM AND HAVE THE APPROVAL FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, IN ORDER TO ACTUALLY ACCESS FUNDS FOR TUITION, THOSE ARE COMPETITIVE DOLLARS.

AND SO, WE HAVE APPLIED FOR NUMEROUS GRANTS WITH US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, TO FUND THIS IN PERPETUITY.

AND THE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS IS THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR IS SEEKING TO EXPAND APPRENTICESHIPS AND SO, WE ARE CONFIDENT THAT THERE WILL BE FUNDING STREAM MOVING FORWARD.

I KNOW IT ONE TIME WE CAME TO FUNDING AND REQUESTS AND SO FORTH, THAT WE ROUTINELY SENT A LETTER OF SUPPORT FROM THE BOARD, IN TERMS OF CONTINUED FUNDING AND SO FORTH.

SO YOU KNOW, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT YOU KNOW, I THINK THAT IT WOULD HELP AND IT WOULD LOOK GOOD ON THE OVERALL PACKAGE, IF THE BOARD SUBMITTED A LETTER OF SUPPORT AND REQUEST FOR FUNDING TO CONTINUE.

SO HOPEFULLY, THERE CAN BE -- WELL, EXPANSION OF THE PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO THOSE 1000 OR MAY BE MORE AND THAT DALLAS COLLEGE CAN REALLY HELP PUT OUT A LOT OF DEGREED TEACHERS AND I WENT TO THE RECEPTION ABOUT A YEAR AGO, DOWNTOWN, I CAN'T REMEMBER IF THE BOARD RECEIVED THIS INFORMATION BUT THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION HAS AN ADVISORY BOARD WITH NATIONAL ACCLAIMED MEMBERS IN THE SPACE ON THE ADVISORY BOARD THAT IS VERY IMPRESSIVE THE REST OF THE BOARD MEMBERS DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT, COULD YOU TALK ABOUT THAT REAL QUICK?

THE ENTIRE EDUCATOR PIPELINE, BIRTH EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND ALSO, THE K-12 SPACE.

AND WE CONTINUE TO LEAN ON THEM.

WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SURVEY ALL STUDENTS AND EVEN APPLICANTS THIS PAST YEAR AND BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS, THE RESPONSE FROM STUDENTS AROUND WHAT MADE THIS PROGRAM MOST ATTRACTIVE OR, ONE, I'M A FORMER DALLA COLLEGE GRADUATE.

SO THEY HAVE LOYALTY TO DALLAS COLLEGE AND THE COST.

SO THAT IS TRULY TRANSFORMATIONAL.

BEING ABLE TO OFFER A FOUR YEAR DEGREE, ALL IN FOR UNDER $10,000, THAT ALSO LEADS TO INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION.

AND THAT IS ASSUMING STUDENTS ARE PAYING OUT-OF-POCKET.

WHICH NUMBER OF OUR STUDENTS ARE NOT BECAUSE THEY HAVE ACCESS TO OTHER SOURCES OF FUNDING, PELL GRANTS, DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE, EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL AND DUAL CREDIT.

SO, WHEN IS LIKE I SAID, JUST TO REITERATE, YOU ARE ALREADY DOING THAT AND THE SECOND PIECE WHICH I THINK WE ARE SEEING SMALL GAINS IN THIS, BUT GOOD GAINS ESPECIALLY IN THE REGION, IS THE WHOLE PIECE AROUND ADVOCACY FOR HIGHER WAGES FOR TEACHERS.

YOU KNOW, WE ARE LEADERS IN THE DALLAS AREA AROUND THAT AND I MENTIONED THE $60,000 STARTING SALARY.

YOU KNOW, THAT HAS MOVED LEAPS AND BOUNDS IN THE LAST FIVE OR 10 YEARS AS WELL.

AND THAT'S REALLY SIGNIFICANT BECAUSE YOU KNOW, THERE'S THIS FALSE NARRATIVE WERE USED TO BE A FALSE NARRATIVE WERE TEACHERS COULDN'T MAKE ANYTHING, NOW TO COME OUT WITH A DEGREE WITH LITTLE TO NO DEBT EARNING $60,000 WITH A PATHWAY TO BE QUITE HONEST IN SOME OF THE WAR MANY OF THE LOCAL DISTRICTS, TURNING SIX FIGURES AS AN EDUCATOR.

SO THAT IS A NARRATIVE WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO CHAMPION ADVOCATING FOR HIGHER WAGES.

BUT ALSO, SORT OF DISPELLING THE MYTH THAT TEACHERS CANNOT MAKE MONEY BECAUSE THEY CAN AND THAT'S WHERE OUR POLICYMAKERS HAVE REALLY DONE A LOT IN THE LAST FEW YEARS, THAT SHOULD BE COMMENDED.

>> IN WHAT SENSE?

>> HOW MANY STUDENTS CAN WE TAKE?

>> IF I HAD A DOLLAR FOR EVERY TIME I WAS ASKED THAT QUESTION.

[LAUGHTER] I MENTIONED EARLIER, YOU KNOW, WE THINK OUR GOAL, I WILL REPHRASE THAT.

I THINK OUR APPROACH IS ALWAYS WANTED TO BE, WE NEED TO PRODUCE GRADUATES THAT ARE MEETING A SPECIFIC DEMAND.

SO WE DON'T WANT TO JUST BE A DEGREE FACTORY.

AND THAT IS IMPORTANT AS WELL.

HOWEVER, THERE IS A HUGE NEED AND YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY IF WE START THINKING ABOUT SPECIFIC POPULATIONS AND GRADE LEVELS, EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION FOR EXAMPLE.

YOU KNOW, WE KNOW THAT FROM BIRTH UNTIL THIRD GRADE IN OUR REGION ALONE, THERE IS A NEED OF OVER 4500 EDUCATORS.

THAT IS JUST CONTINUING TO GROW.

AND UNFORTUNATELY, THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE ARE IN THE SPACE.

WE KNOW THAT YOU KNOW, OUR TRADITIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION PARTNERS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO MEET THAT NEED, SO THIS IS A COLLECTIVE IMPACT PROBLEM THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS.

SO WE THINK THAT AGAIN, THERE IS A WORLD WHERE WE WILL BE ABLE TO PRODUCE BECAUSE THERE IS THE NEED SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 750 ƂĀ€" 1000 GRADUATES, NEW TEACHERS PER YEAR.

AND AGAIN, WE ARE APPRECIATIVE OF THE BOARD AND DOCTOR FLOYD, FOR EARLY DESIGN OF THE NEW SCHOOL OF EDUCATION, WE'VE BEEN REALLY INTENTIONAL TO BUILD CAPACITY EARLY ON, TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN MEET THAT NEED BECAUSE WE'VE SEEN DEMAND FROM STUDENTS.

WE HAVE RECEIVED OVER 4000 APPLICATIONS FOR THE PROGRAM, SO WE'VE HAD TO VERY QUICKLY IDENTIFY HIGH QUALITY FACULTY, BUILDING UP A GREAT SUPPORT TEAM AND AGAIN, OUR LEADERSHIP AND YOU WILL HAVE REALLY BEEN SUPPORTIVE IN HELPING US DO THAT SO THANK YOU.
