I WAS RAISED BY A SINGLE PARENT FOR A GOOD MAJORITY OF MY LIFE.

[Employee Town Hall ]

SO IN MIDDLE SCHOOL I WAS GOING THROUGH CHANGES, THINGS WERE HAPPENING AND I STRUGGLED WITH PAYING ATTENTION IN MY CLASSES.

I WAS HANGING AROUND THE WRONG CROWD.

I WAS BEING A BIT MISCHIEVOUS, IS THINKING I COULD DO WHATEVER AND IT GOT ME IN A LOT OF TROUBLE AND I REALIZED I WAS HURTING MY MOM.

SO I THOUGHT, IT'S BETTER IF I STOP DOING ALL THAT.

IT'S TIME THAT I CHANGED MYSELF.

SO ONCE I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE COLLEGIAN PROGRAM, THAT'S WHEN I WAS LIKE, I'M GOING TO BE BETTER AND I'M GOING TO DO BETTER.

SO IT WOULD DEFINITELY HELP ME.

IT WAS THE COUNSELORS, IT WAS MY COUNSELOR.

SHE WAS KIND OF PUSHING LIKE, HEY, LIKE THESE CLASSES, YOU GOT TO BE MATURE FOR IT.

AND SAYING THAT I WAS GOING TO BE THE FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT, MY FAMILY REALLY WAS LIKE, I'M DOING SOMETHING THEY WEREN'T GIVEN THE CHOICE TO DO.

I'M GOING TO DO BETTER SO I CAN GO THROUGH COLLEGE, SO I CAN MAKE THEM PROUD, ESPECIALLY AFTER WHAT HAPPENED IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

FRESHMAN YEAR WAS A BIT DIFFICULT.

IT WAS VERY CHALLENGING SINCE I HAD NO IDEA WHAT COLLEGE WAS LIKE, WHAT TO EXPECT.

SOPHOMORE YEAR I KIND OF GOT THE HANG OF IT AND WAS REALLY TRYING TO PUSH ON, TRYING TO BETTER MYSELF. AND HALFWAY THROUGH MY SOPHOMORE YEAR, I REALLY FOCUSED ON MY CLASSES AND TRYING TO BE BETTER FOR SCHOOL.

MY MOM SAW THAT I WAS DOING BETTER IN COLLEGE THAN I WAS IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES AND SHE WAS ASKING WHY AND I WAS TELLING HER, IT'S A BIT EASIER, IT'S A BIT MORE RELAXED.

YOUR HOMEWORK IS MAYBE ONCE A WEEK OR TWO TIMES A WEEK, DEFINITELY LIKE SOMETHING THAT'S DOABLE. AND SHE WAS REALLY INTRIGUED BY IT.

AND SO IT WASN'T UNTIL MY SOPHOMORE YEAR WHEN I GOT MORE CLASSES, SHE WAS LIKE, I'M THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK TO COLLEGE.

AND I SAID, GO FOR IT.

ELIAS WAS A BIG INSPIRATION TO ME.

I SEEN HIM, YOU KNOW, GO FOR IT.

AND HIM DOING THE DUAL CREDIT, GOING TO HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE AT THE SAME TIME REALLY INSPIRED ME TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL BECAUSE HE SEEMED LIKE, YOU KNOW, IT'S NEVER TOO LATE, MOM. YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK AND ACTUALLY GET YOUR DEGREE.

YOU KNOW, I KNOW YOU'RE OLDER NOW AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO REALLY KIND OF TAKE CARE OF ME ANYMORE, SO I'LL HELP YOU.

IF YOU GET STUCK ON ANY WORK, I'LL BE THERE TO ASSIST YOU BECAUSE I'VE ALREADY TAKEN THOSE CLASSES, OR I CAN KIND OF GUIDE YOU WITH THOSE CLASSES.

SO HE'S BEEN VERY HELPFUL.

IT IS SOMETHING VERY UNIQUE.

BEING TOGETHER AT HOME, WORKING ON HOMEWORK WAS SOMETHING I NEVER THOUGHT WE'D BE DOING AND IT MAKES ME HAPPY BECAUSE IT'S A REAL BONDING MOMENT.

WE OFTEN DO BOND, BUT NOTHING BEATS DOING HOMEWORK WITH MY MOM.

SO THAT THAT RIGHT THERE IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.

WHAT AN AMAZING STORY AND REAL REMINDER OF WHY OUR WORK AT DALLAS COLLEGE IS SO IMPORTANT. WELL, GOOD MORNING AND WELCOME TO THE FIRST OFFICIAL LEADERSHIP BRIEFING SINCE I'VE ASSUMED THE ROLE OF CHANCELLOR.

IT'S BEEN A LITTLE OVER A MONTH, AND I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS AND YOUR SUPPORT, AS I'VE SHARED FROM THE START.

WE HAVE SO MUCH WORK AHEAD OF US, BUT I WANTED TO START TODAY'S SESSION WITH A REMINDER OF WHY WE'RE COMMITTED TO THIS WORK AND OUR STUDENTS.

THEY ARE AT THE HEART OF ALL WE'RE DOING AND WITH ALL WE'RE DOING, IT CAN BE CHALLENGING TO KEEP THAT IN PERSPECTIVE WHEN WE'RE FOCUSED ON THE DAY TO DAY WORK THAT WE ALL DO.

BUT JUST YESTERDAY I WAS AT ONE OF OUR CAMPUSES AND I ASKED ONE OF OUR LONG TERM FACULTY MEMBERS JUST, YOU KNOW, HOW ARE THINGS GOING? AND HE HAD THIS GREAT RESPONSE.

HE SAID, WHEN YOU'RE FOCUSED ON TAKING CARE OF STUDENTS, EVERYTHING IS GREAT.

SO I WAS ACTUALLY AT THREE OF OUR CAMPUSES YESTERDAY AND HAD SOME GREAT CONVERSATIONS, GREAT DIALOG WITH WITH FOLKS ACROSS THOSE CAMPUSES.

BUT SO FAR, THAT'S THE QUOTE OF THE WEEK.

WHAT I'M STUCK STRUCK BY IN THAT VIDEO IS ELIAS'S DETERMINATION TO CREATE A BETTER LIFE FOR HIM, FOR HIS FAMILY, SO MUCH SO THAT HIS MOTHER INDI, WAS INSPIRED TO GO BACK AND GET HER DEGREE. THESE ARE PRIME EXAMPLES OF THE IMPACT WE COLLECTIVELY, ALL OF US WORKING TOGETHER, CAN MAKE ON A STUDENT, A FAMILY AND ON A COMMUNITY.

AND YOU'LL SEE MORE OF THESE EXAMPLES AND STORIES DURING THESE UPDATES GOING FORWARD.

[00:05:02]

NOW, YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED WE'VE GOT A NEW FORMAT HERE.

AGAIN, WE HEARD YOU LOUD AND CLEAR.

SO WE MADE A FEW CHANGES ALONG THE WAY TO MAKE A BETTER USE OF OUR TIME AND BETTER USE OF THIS HOUR TODAY.

SO WE'RE CALLING THESE UPDATES 60 MINUTES WITH CHANCELLOR LENNON.

THIS IS A SPIN ON THE QUICK 62ND VIDEOS THAT I'VE DONE RECENTLY AND THAT I HOPE YOU HAVE FOUND OF INTEREST.

SO HOPEFULLY OUR FRIENDS AT CBS WILL BE COOL AND OKAY WITH US BORROWING PART OF THEIR FAMOUS SHOW'S TITLE.

SO GOING FORWARD ON A PERIODIC BASIS, WE'LL DO A VERSION OF THIS FORMAT WHICH IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN OUR PREVIOUS TOWN HALLS.

I WANT TO USE THIS TIME TO DISCUSS THE ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU, TO OUR STUDENTS, OUR COLLEGE, AND OUR COMMUNITY.

AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THESE UPDATES, WE EXPECT TO CONTINUE RESPONDING TO YOUR QUESTIONS BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT TWO WAY COMMUNICATION IS CRITICAL TO CREATING TRANSPARENCY AND ENSURING THAT YOU'RE INFORMED AND ENGAGED.

BUT FOR TODAY, AT LEAST, RATHER THAN SPEND THE MAJORITY OF OUR TIME ON Q&A, WE WILL HIGHLIGHT SOME OF THE UPDATES FROM AROUND THE COLLEGE AND THE COMMUNITY.

AND TODAY WE HAVE A TON OF INFORMATION TO SHARE, AND WE WANT YOU TO HAVE TIME TO DIGEST IT, BECAUSE WHAT WE PLAN TO SHARE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF THE LISTENING SESSIONS AND SMALL GROUP MEETINGS THAT WERE HELD ON CAMPUS.

ADDITIONALLY, MANY OF YOU WERE ABLE TO PRE SUBMIT QUESTIONS THAT WE'LL TRY TO GET TO IF YOU DIDN'T PRE SUBMIT A QUESTION.

WE STILL WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

SO PLEASE SHARE YOUR QUESTIONS OR FEEDBACK WITH US AT ACTION 2022.

I'M SORRY, ACTION 22 AT DIGITAL DOT EDU, BUT THIS HOUR IS NOT THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THOSE QUESTIONS.

WE'LL ALSO BE BUILDING SOME ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.

RESPOND TO YOUR QUESTIONS IF WE DON'T GET TO THEM TODAY.

YOU'LL HEAR MORE ABOUT OUR LUNCH AND LEARNS SERIES THAT WE'RE WE'RE GOING TO DO.

AND WE THINK YOU'LL HAVE A GREAT WAY TO HEAR MORE IN THOSE SESSIONS, TO GET INFORMATION AND INTERACT AND GET ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS FROM FOLKS THAT ARE ON THE FRONT LINES.

AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, OUR TIME TODAY WILL PRIMARILY FOCUS ON DALLAS COLLEGE 2030 PLAN AND SPECIFICALLY ACTION 2022.

NOW ACTION 2022 IS OUR BLUEPRINT FOR ADDRESSING SOME OF THE CONCERNS THAT WE'VE HEARD FROM YOU PREVIOUSLY.

SO AS YOU'LL HEAR, WE'RE GOING TO DO THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY NOT ONLY IN THIS SESSION TODAY, BUT SOME FOUNDATIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES, LIKE WE'RE GOING TO DO AN EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT SURVEY, WE'RE GOING TO DO A COMPENSATION STUDY.

WE'RE GOING TO DO A NEW FLEX WORK PROGRAM, ALL TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE FOCUSING ON THE ISSUES THAT HAVE COME UP AND THAT WE KNOW THAT WE NEED TO AS AN ORGANIZATION.

NOW, WE'VE GOT A FEW FOLKS HERE WITH US TODAY FROM ACROSS THE COLLEGE WHO WILL HELP SHED A LITTLE MORE LIGHT ON SOME OF OUR PLANS AND SOME OF THE PROGRESS THAT WE'RE ALREADY MAKING. SO I APPRECIATE ALL OF THEM BEING HERE.

SO FIRST, LET ME START BY INTRODUCING LENORA REESE, WHO'S OUR SENIOR DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS OPERATIONS. SHE'S KIND OF BEEN WORKING BEHIND THE SCENES WITH OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM TO HELP TURN YOUR FEEDBACK INTO THOUGHTFUL AND A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN, BECAUSE SHE'S BEEN INVOLVED AT EVERY STEP ALONG THE WAY IN THIS DEVELOPMENT.

I'VE ASKED HER TO SHARE DETAILS OF THIS PLAN WITH US TODAY.

AND LATER, AFTER TALKING THROUGH ACTION 2022.

WE'LL HAVE A PANEL DISCUSSION WITH A FEW FOLKS WHO ARE HERE WHO ARE HELPING TO LEAD AND LEAD THE CHALLENGE OF REBUILDING OUR CAMPUS CULTURE AND THAT SENSE OF COMMUNITY AT OUR CAMPUSES. SO FIRST, DR.

EDDIE TAYLOR AND SHARON COOK WILL JOIN AND SHARE A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT THEY'RE DOING TO ENGAGE EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS AT OUR EASTFIELD CAMPUS.

AND THEN WE'VE GOT DR. BRAD WILLIAMS AND DR.

ADRIAN THOMPSON, WHO WILL DO THE SAME THING FROM THE EL CENTRO PERSPECTIVE.

NOW WE KNOW THESE AREN'T THE ONLY PERSPECTIVES, BUT WE APPRECIATE THEM TAKING TIME TODAY WITH THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING THAT KIND OF REPRESENT WHAT'S GOING ON ACROSS THE COLLEGE. NOW, I'LL ALSO SAY THIS IS A LIVE BROADCAST, SO WE'LL JUST SEE HOW THIS GOES.

AND I'M JUST GOING TO START WITH ONE KIND OF THE THE PRE SUBMITTED QUESTIONS THAT CAME WHICH KIND OF REFERENCED AND SAID NICE GRAPHIC ON SHAREPOINT ABOUT ACTION 2022 IDEAS ARE NICE, BUT WE NEED ACTUAL PLANS.

SO WITH THAT, NORA, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO YOU TO DO JUST THAT, TO SHARE A SHARE WITH SOME OF THE DETAILS ABOUT ACTION 2022.

THANK YOU, DR. ALANNA. AND SO I'M VERY EXCITED TODAY TO BE SHARING WHAT WE ARE ROLLING OUT AS PART OF ACTION 2022.

SO OUR FIRST SLIDE, IT SHOWS IN GENERAL AS REFERENCED EARLIER, THAT THIS IS NOT SEPARATE AND APART FROM THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

THIS IS INTEGRAL AND PART OF AND COMBINED WITH THE GOALS OF THE STRATEGIC PLAN.

THESE ARE THREE SPECIFIC FOCUS AREAS WE CAN START WITH THAT WE KNOW WE NEED TO TACKLE RIGHT AWAY. SO JUST TO BE CLEAR, THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS INTEGRATED WITHIN THE GOALS THAT WE'VE ALREADY ESTABLISHED AS A COLLEGE.

SO ON THE NEXT SLIDE, WE'RE GOING TO TALK WHAT IS ACTION 2022? SO THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN REFERENCED, BUT THIS IS A SHORT TERM, YEAR LONG PLAN THAT IS

[00:10:06]

DESIGNED TO IMPROVE DALLAS COLLEGE AND IT SPECIFICALLY ADDRESSES THOSE CRITICAL ISSUES THAT WE HEARD DURING THE LISTENING SESSIONS.

SO THESE ARE THE BIG MAJOR COMPONENTS WE HEARD.

AND TO GET TO WHAT YOU WOULD SEE IN THE ICON, THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT CULTURE AND COMMUNICATIONS, WE TOOK ALL THE NOTES FROM THOSE LISTENING SESSIONS AND HIGHLIGHTED THEMES THAT WE SAW THROUGHOUT THAT CAME UP AT EACH OF THE CAMPUSES.

AND THEN WE TOOK THOSE THEMES AND TRIED TO DERIVE WHAT KIND OF BUCKETS CAN WE CREATE TO ADDRESS THOSE SPECIFIC THEMES.

SO THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE SEEING THE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION COME FROM. I JUST ALSO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THIS IS A LIVING PLAN, SO THIS IS NOT 100% SET IN STONE. WE KNOW THINGS WILL ARISE ALONG THE WAY.

AND SO WE WANT TO CALL OUT THAT THIS THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO EVALUATE THIS PLAN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE, WE'RE GOING TO TALK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND JUST GENERALLY HOW THIS BUCKET WAS CREATED WAS WE HEARD A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT AMBIGUITY, UNCERTAINTY, QUESTIONS ABOUT PROCESS, INDIVIDUALS WHO STATED THAT A STUDENT USED TO COME INTO MY OFFICE AND I KNEW EXACTLY WHERE TO LEAD THEM AND WHERE TO POINT THEM TO GO.

AND NOW I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO DO IN ORDER TO HELP THIS STUDENT.

SO THERE IS A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT WE HEARD KIND OF ALONG THAT VEIN.

AND SO WE PUT THIS INTO A BUCKET OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AND WE'RE LOOKING AT THREE SPECIFIC AUDIENCES.

AS WE TALK ABOUT CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, WE HAVE THE EMPLOYEE SUPPORT.

SO WHAT RESOURCES DO OUR EMPLOYEES NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AT THEIR JOBS FROM THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE, YOU KNOW, SIMILAR TO WHAT I WAS JUST JUST DISCUSSING IS ENSURING THAT WE HAVE WHAT WE NEED TO BETTER HELP AND AID OUR STUDENTS.

SO IF A STUDENT HAS A NEED, HOW CAN WE ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE WHAT THEY NEED ACADEMICALLY OR WHAT THEY NEED TO SUPPORT THEIR ENDEAVORS? AND THEN AS DALLAS COLLEGE AS A COMMUNITY AT WHOLE, HOW DO WE CREATE A WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT WHERE WE HAVE VISITORS COMING ON CAMPUS, COMMUNITY EMPLOYERS AND HELPING EVERYONE GET TO WHAT THEY NEED, BOTH DIGITALLY AND PHYSICALLY? SO ON THE NEXT SLIDE, WE TALK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT.

WHAT WE'RE DOING AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT FROM EMPLOYEE SUPPORT AND WORK RESOURCES.

AND DR. LENNON REFERENCED SOME OF THESE ALREADY, BUT SPECIFICALLY LOOKING AT STAFFING LEVEL REVIEWS, THINGS OF THAT NATURE THAT HAVE COME UP THROUGHOUT THE LISTENING SESSIONS.

REMOTE WORK AND FLEX WORK WE KNOW IS A HOT TOPIC AT THIS POINT IN TIME.

AND I DO WANT TO NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE A SURVEY COMING OUT TODAY FROM FROM SHERRY ENRIGHT THAT SPEAKS SPECIFICALLY TO REMOTE AND FLEX WORK.

SO IF THAT'S OF INTEREST OF YOU, I WOULD DEFINITELY ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT SURVEY. AND THEN THE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT SURVEY THAT WAS REFERENCED EARLIER, THAT WILL BE COMING OUT SOON AND THERE WILL BE UPDATES ON THE ACTION 2020 TO SHAREPOINT SPECIFIC TO THOSE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND ONGOING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR EMPLOYEES. AND THEN KIND OF THIS RESOURCE REPOSITORY THAT INCLUDES GENERAL DIRECTORY INFORMATION, QUICK LINKS, REFERENCES.

WE'RE WORKING VERY HARD TO TRY TO PULL SOME OF THOSE IN A MORE USER FRIENDLY FORMAT.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE.

SO WE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR THAT ACADEMIC SCHEDULING AND ENSURING THAT STUDENTS HAVE THE COURSES THEY NEED WHEN THEY NEED THEM IS A HIGH PRIORITY FOR DALLAS COLLEGE.

SO WE WILL BE INCREASING EFFORTS BETWEEN THE ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP, THE SCHEDULING TEAM AND STUDENT SERVICES TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE IMPROVING AND CONTINUOUSLY UPDATING OUR SCHEDULING PROCESS. ALSO CONTINUING TO PARTNER WITH STUDENTS TO ENSURE THEY HAVE THE ACADEMIC PATH THAT THEY ARE DECLARED ON THEIR ACADEMIC PATH SO THAT WE CAN ENSURE WE HAVE PROPER COURSES READY TO GO FOR THEM.

WE'VE ALSO IMPLEMENTED THE COOLEST SYSTEM, WHICH IS A DIGITAL PLATFORM THAT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO SIGN UP AND NOT HAVE TO WAIT IN LONG LINES.

AND SO MORE INFORMATION WILL BE COMING OUT ABOUT THAT.

AND THEN WE'RE ALSO IN THE PROCESS OF BRINGING ON A THIRD PARTY VENDOR TO HANDLE OUR CONTACT CENTER.

AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS BECAUSE THIS WILL ALLOW THOSE RUN OF THE MILL PHONE CONCERNS TO BE ADDRESSED SO THAT OUR EMPLOYEES ARE REALLY WORKING AT THE HEART OF WHERE THE PROBLEMS ARE.

SO WE'RE GOING TO MOVE ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE, WHICH IS CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT AS THE DALLAS COLLEGE COMMUNITY OVERALL.

AND WHAT YOU'LL FIND IN THIS CATEGORY IS WAYFINDING.

WE'VE ALL HEARD THAT SIGNAGE IS IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING CHANGED.

THERE'S DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS THAT HAVE MOVED AROUND AND MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE GOING TO THE RIGHT PLACES.

SO THAT IS WHERE THIS FALLS WITHIN THIS PLAN.

AND THEN ALSO JUST CREATING EQUITABLE ESTHETICS AND FEELINGS AMONG THE CAMPUS.

AND THEN AS WE'RE STARTING TO PROGRESS OUT OF SOME OF THE RESTRICTIONS WITH COVID, WE'RE

[00:15:06]

GOING TO SEE MORE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ON OUR CAMPUSES AND ENSURING THAT WE HAVE PROCESSES IN PLACE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE THAT WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYBODY.

NEXT, I WOULD LIKE TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT CULTURE, AND DR.

LONDON SPOKE TO THIS A LITTLE BIT EARLIER, BUT WE DEFINITELY ARE LOOKING AT IMPLEMENTING STRATEGIES TO BOOST EMPLOYEE MORALE, AND WE WILL TALK MORE EXTENSIVELY ABOUT THAT LATER IN THIS HOUR. BUT WHAT WE ARE LOOKING TO DO IS WE ARE ASPIRING TO BECOME A CULTURE THAT IS SUPPORTIVE OF ITS EMPLOYEES AND MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SETTING THEM UP FOR SUCCESS.

WE WANT TO EMPOWER PEOPLE TO MAKE LEADERSHIP DECISIONS AND EQUIP THEM TO DO THEIR JOBS SUCCESSFULLY. AND WE KNOW THAT BY DOING THAT, BY HAVE HAPPY EMPLOYEES AND HAVING EMPLOYEES THAT CAN FEEL SUCCESSFUL AT THEIR JOB, IT'S ONLY GOING TO FURTHER THE BENEFITS TO THE STUDENTS AND THE EMPLOYERS AND THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE.

SO WE'RE WORKING THROUGH HOW TO CREATE THIS CULTURE, AND WE'RE GOING TO BE WORKING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO DEFINE THIS CULTURE.

BUT THESE ARE KIND OF, AS I SAID EARLIER ASPIRATIONALLY, WHAT WE'RE THINKING IN REGARDS TO WHAT WE WANT TO ACCOMPLISH.

SO VARIOUS STRATEGIES OF CULTURE, WE WANT TO CREATE THAT SENSE OF COMMUNITY IN PLACE.

WE WANT TO ENHANCE LARGE SCALE EVENTS.

AND I KNOW THAT THE TWO PRESIDENTS HERE WILL SPEAK TO THAT TODAY, BUT ALSO INCLUDING THE FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP.

AND SO IN BRINGING IN LEADERS THAT MAY NOT PERHAPS ALWAYS BE ON CAMPUS TO ENGAGE IN THAT CULTURE CONVERSATION, ALSO INVITING OPEN HOUSES AND MEANINGFUL EVENTS WHERE EMPLOYEES FEEL THAT THEY CAN GO AND PARTICIPATE AND LEARN AND GET TO KNOW ONE ANOTHER IN THIS NEW SETTING. AND THEN JUST CREATING THAT SENSE OF PLACE, WHAT KIND OF BRANDING THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AND JUST CREATING THAT COMMUNITY AND DOING THINGS TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE CREATING THAT PLACE, MAKING INCREASING LEADERSHIP ENGAGEMENT WITH EMPLOYEES.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT DR.

LONDON REFERENCED EARLIER, WHERE THE LUNCHEON LEARNS SO WE WILL BE HAVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR FEEDBACK. I KNOW THAT EMPLOYEES ARE VERY EXCITED TO ENGAGE AND WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS, AND THOSE ARE SOME VERY GOOD OPPORTUNITIES FOR EMPLOYEES TO START HAVING CONVERSATIONS. AND IDEALLY THOSE LUNCH AND LEARNS WILL BE ON SPECIFIC TOPICS AS IT PERTAINS TO ACTION 2022 AND ALLOW FOR FEEDBACK AND ALLOW FOR INDIVIDUALS TO FURTHER ENGAGE IN THIS PROCESS.

AND THEN WITH THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAMS, WHICH I BELIEVE A COMMUNICATION WENT OUT YESTERDAY IN REGARD TO THAT.

AND THOSE ARE OPPORTUNITIES FOR TWO WAY FEEDBACK.

SO WE HAVE FEEDBACK GOING FROM FUNCTIONALLY TO THE CAMPUS AND THEN FROM CAMPUS TO FUNCTIONAL LEADS SO THAT HOPEFULLY AS THINGS COME UP AND AS THINGS ARE MADE AWARE TO THE LEADERSHIP, THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS THEM.

FINALLY, WE WILL BE LOOKING AT ADDITIONAL WELLNESS OPPORTUNITIES AND THERE WILL BE MORE INFORMATION COMING OUT ABOUT THAT SHORTLY.

SO FINALLY, WE'RE GOING TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT COMMUNICATIONS.

SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE A CONSISTENT FLOW OF INFORMATION REGARDING DALLAS COLLEGE AND THE STRATEGIES OF ACTION.

2022. SO AS I INDICATED EARLIER, WE WANT TO DEVELOP TRANSPARENCY.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WHAT IS SAID AT THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAMS IS COMMUNICATED BROADLY. SO THOSE MINUTES WILL BE POSTED AND ALSO BE REDISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE SENIOR DIRECTORS AT THE CAMPUS TO ENSURE THAT PEOPLE HAVE COPIES OF THOSE MINUTES AND THEY FEEL THAT THEY CAN ENGAGE WITH THEIR CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAM MEMBERS TO BRING FORWARD TOPICS THEY FEEL SHOULD BE DISCUSSED AT THOSE MEETINGS.

ALSO, WE HAVE THE SHAREPOINT FOR ACTION 2022, WHICH WE ARE INVOKING NEW STRATEGIES TO TRY TO MAKE A LITTLE BIT MORE USER FRIENDLY SO THAT PEOPLE CAN FIND WHAT THEY NEED AND IN AN EASY WAY. AND SO MORE WILL BE COMING OUT.

SO JUST A NOTE ON THAT, SHAREPOINT, IT IS OUT IN JULY, BUT WE WILL BE DEVELOPING IT AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO BE DEVELOPED THROUGHOUT THIS PLAN.

AND THEN FINALLY, WE'RE UPDATING AND LAUNCHING A NEW NEWSLETTER STRATEGY.

SO YOU'LL SEE COMMUNICATIONS COMING OUT IN A VERY MEANINGFUL WAY AND A WAY THAT PEOPLE CAN SEE THAT THE EFFORTS ARE BEING STREAMLINED AND THE COMMUNICATIONS BEING STREAMLINED.

SO WITH THAT, JUST A REMINDER, THIS IS A LIVING PLAN.

IT PROBABLY WILL CHANGE.

THERE ARE THINGS THAT CONTINUALLY COME UP.

AND SO WE JUST WANT TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE CREATING CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT ON THESE EFFORTS. WE WILL BE PROVIDING ONGOING UPDATES.

SO THERE'S GOING TO BE MORE ON THE PROGRESS BEING MADE, AND WE WILL BE CONTINUALLY REPORTING THAT OUT.

AND IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR FEEDBACK, DEFINITELY SEND US AN EMAIL TO THE ACTION 2022

[00:20:02]

WEBSITE. SO THAT DOCTOR, I'M GOING TO.

ALL RIGHT. WELL, NO THANKS, LENORA.

AND I APPRECIATE YOU SPENDING THE TIME WITH THE TEAM TO PUT THIS PLAN TOGETHER.

AND AGAIN, THIS PLAN IS REFLECTIVE OF EVERYTHING THAT THAT WE HEARD FROM FROM OUR EMPLOYEES. SO BE SURE TO LOOK FOR FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THE LUNCHEON LEARNS THAT THAT LENORA MENTIONED THAT WILL BE OCCURRING ACROSS THE CAMPUSES FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO TO PLUG IN ALONG THE WAY.

SO WE'RE WE'RE FINALIZING THE DATES AND TIMES OF THOSE.

AND I KNOW THAT WE'LL BE GETTING THOSE OUT AS QUICK AS WE CAN AND CERTAINLY SHARE THOSE.

BUT ONE OF THE CORE AREAS OF ALL OF THIS IS IS CULTURE.

AND IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO WATCH THE THE SPOTLIGHT VIDEO THAT THE TEAM RECENTLY DID ON DID ON ME, WHERE I WHERE I TALKED ABOUT THE CULTURE ASPECT.

AND AS I'VE ENGAGED WITH DIFFERENT FOLKS TALKING ABOUT WE'RE GOING TO BE SPENDING A LOT OF TIME ADDRESSING THE DALLAS COLLEGE CULTURE AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? BUT I THINK WE HAVE TO BE VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT THAT.

AND I REALIZE THAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO TAKE STEPS TO REBUILD THAT SENSE OF PLACE AND SENSE OF COMMUNITY AT ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS, SINCE MUCH OF THAT HAS CHANGED BECAUSE OF THE TRANSITION AND BECAUSE OF THE PANDEMIC.

SO I WANT TO KIND OF BRING IN THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PANEL TODAY TO KIND OF HAVE A DIALOG AROUND CULTURE AND AROUND SOME OF THESE ISSUES.

SO, AGAIN, I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU, YOU BEING HERE.

AND BUT LET ME LET ME KIND OF JUST START WITH ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAS BEEN A RECURRING THEME DURING THE LISTENING SESSIONS AND MANY OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WE STILL RECEIVE.

AND IT'S AROUND MORALE, YOU KNOW, WHAT DO WE WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO TO REBUILD EMPLOYEE MORALE? AND SO AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ENGAGE STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES ON YOUR RESPECTIVE CAMPUSES? SO WITH THAT, I'LL START WITH YOU, SHARON AND DR.

TAYLOR, TO KIND OF KIND OF SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS AND PERSPECTIVES.

SURE. WELL, ONE OF THE THINGS WE WERE DOING SO YOU MENTIONED IN SECTION 22 ABOUT COMMUNICATION. WE FEEL THAT THAT'S AN EFFECTIVE APPROACH.

SO WE'VE TAKEN OUR HARVESTER BEE MASCOT AND WE'VE IMPLEMENTED THE THREE BEES AND THE THREE BEES TIES TO EMAIL.

SO WE KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF EMAILS THAT COME FROM DALLAS COLLEGE AS WELL AS SOME OF THE COMMUNICATION THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN AT THE CAMPUS.

BUT HOW DO YOU NOT MISS SOME OF THOSE COMMUNICATIONS? SO FOR EXAMPLE, WE HAVE BEE ALERT AND SO THOSE AND THIS IS ALL IN THE SUBJECT LINE.

SO THOSE WOULD BE MESSAGES OR EMAILS THAT ARE SAYING HERE ARE SOME INFORMATION THAT'S IMPORTANT, IT'S URGENT.

YOU NEED THIS INFORMATION TO TAKE ACTION.

THEN WE HAVE BEE IN THE KNOW.

SO THAT'S MORE GENERAL INFORMATION THAT MAY BE REINFORCING WHAT DALLAS COLLEGE HAS PUSHED THROUGH, BUT ALSO AT THE CAMPUS LEVEL.

AND THEN WE HAVE BEE WITH DR.

T. AND SO THAT'S INFORMATION THAT COMES FROM THE THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE FOR ANY EVENTS THAT WE'RE SPONSORING, ANY COMMUNICATION THAT WE WANT OTHERS TO COME AND AND BE PART OF, YOU KNOW, AN EVENT THAT WE CAN HEAR FROM THEM AND WE CAN DO A LOT OF THAT WORK TOGETHER.

BUT THOSE ARE SOME OF THE STRATEGIES.

AND THEN WE ALSO USE OUR FORMAT AND TEAM SHARING.

DO YOU WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT? THANK YOU. DR. T WHAT WE DECIDED IS THAT IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR US TO HEAR FROM OUR OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY AND SO IMPORTANTLY IS FOR CHAT.

AND THAT'S JUST A VERY, VERY INFORMAL IF YOU WANT TO PUT INFORMATION ABOUT A GARAGE SALE, IF YOU WANT TO FIND A DOCTOR, A DENTIST IN, YOU'RE NEW TO THE CAMPUS AND YOU WANT SOMEONE CLOSE BY. BUT THEN WE BRING IT FURTHER AND WE HAVE TEAMS CHAT.

AND SO WE STARTED THIS LAST FALL AND WE LOVE IT AND OUR AND OUR STAFF LOVES IT AND WHAT IT IS, IS JUST CONVERSATION.

SO WE HAD A BANQUET.

WE ACTUALLY HAD TWO BANQUETS LAST WEEK AND SO WE PUT PICTURES OF THOSE PARTICIPATING IN THE BANQUET AND THEN WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE IT EVEN A LITTLE BIT MORE CONVERSATION.

HEY, WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE HOW YOUR FACULTY ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT DANCED AT THE BANQUET? SO AGAIN, WE WERE ABLE TO YOU'VE SEEN IT.

YOU'VE SEEN IT. SO WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE THAT.

AND THE COLLEAGUES LOVED IT.

THAT'S WHAT THEY WANTED, JUST TO BE ABLE TO BE TO REACT TO IT AND EMOTIONS.

AND SO IT'S JUST A A FLAVOR.

IT'S KIND OF CORNY, BUT YOU KNOW WHAT? COURTNEY WORKS FOR US, AND SO WE LOVE CORNY AND IT WORKED.

AND SO WE CONTINUE THIS.

YESTERDAY WE HAD OUR GROUNDBREAKING, AND SO IMMEDIATELY WE FOLLOWED UP WITH SOME PHOTOS.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAD SOME OF OUR FACULTY AND STAFF WHO WERE THERE WHO WERE ALSO ABLE TO REACT TO IT. AND SO IT JUST MAKES IT A WONDERFUL, EASY CONVERSATION TOOL.

AND SO WE'RE GOING TO KEEP DOING IT.

AND I TRY TO INITIATE CONVERSATION AT LEAST DAILY, IF NOT A COUPLE, EVERY OTHER DAY WITH PHOTOS AND ALL. AND IT REALLY WORKS.

AND THE MESSAGES THAT WE RECEIVED FROM OUR FACULTY AND STAFF MAKES US FEEL GOOD BECAUSE

[00:25:01]

WE KNOW THAT THEY'RE LISTENING.

AND THEY. THEY ENJOY THOSE, THAT TYPE OF CONVERSATION.

YEAH, THAT'S GREAT. WELL, I MEAN, I THINK AND THAT'S ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS CONVERSATION TODAY IS THE MIX OF THE FORMAL AND THE INFORMAL AND EVEN THE MIX OF THE PARTICIPANTS TODAY, BECAUSE WE'VE GOT FOLKS WHO HAVE BEEN HERE FOR A WHILE, SHARON AND AND HAVE HAVE SEEN A LOT OF THINGS CHANGE OVER A PERIOD OF TIME.

AND THEN THEN, BRAD, YOU KNOW, RELATIVELY NEWER TO THE TO THE TEAM AND TO THE COLLEGE.

AND THEN ADRIAN'S BEEN AROUND FOR FOR A LITTLE WHILE AS WELL.

SO FROM FROM YOUR GUY'S STANDPOINT, KIND OF SHARE THE CENTRAL PERSPECTIVE AND WHAT ARE YOU GUYS ARE DOING NOW BACK UP JUST A LITTLE BIT.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE REALLY WORKED TO DO IN BEING INTENTIONAL AS THE PLAN KIND OF CALLS FOR IS WHAT KIND OF SCAFFOLDING OR FRAMEWORK CAN WE BUILD TO THEN TO HANG THESE TYPES OF EVENTS ON? AND SO WHEN YOU LOOK AT, YOU KNOW, WHETHER IT'S ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT LITERATURE OR YOUR TONY ROBBINS PODCAST, THINGS THAT EMPLOYEES NEED, IT'S LIKE A GARDEN, RIGHT? YOU PREPARE THE ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCCESS.

AND SO WE ALL WANT TO BE SIGNIFICANT IN OUR WORK.

WE ALL WANT TO BE INTENTIONAL AND ACTIVE.

WE ALL LOVE CERTAINTY, RIGHT? BUT WE ALSO LIKE A LITTLE BIT OF VARIATION, RIGHT? A LITTLE BIT OF CHANGE IN THE DAY IS NOT A BAD THING EITHER.

BUT WHEN YOU START LOOKING AT OTHER THINGS OF PERSONAL GROWTH AND WHAT'S MY LEGACY FROM MY TIME HERE AT EL CENTRO, ALL OF THESE THEN BECOME A FOUNDATION FOR WHAT WE DO DAY IN AND DAY OUT TO KIND OF SOLIDIFY THAT.

AND SO WE WORK KIND OF CLOSELY IN PARALLEL MAYBE WITH H.R.

SO WHILE DISTRICT OFFICE DOES AN ONBOARDING, EL CENTRO DOES AN ONBOARDING.

SO THEY COME THROUGH OUR OFFICE, WE GIVE THEM A T SHIRT, INCLUDE PSA AND REALLY TRY TO SHOW LOVE TO AN EMPLOYEE THAT THEY BELONG.

THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO OFFER AND CONTRIBUTE AND THOSE TYPES OF THINGS.

THERE ARE 37 EMPLOYEES AT EL CENTRO THAT HAVE A BIRTHDAY IN THE MONTH OF APRIL.

EACH ONE OF THOSE GOT A NOTE SAYING, HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

WE ACKNOWLEDGE YOU AS A HUMAN BEING.

AND SO THOSE ARE ADDITIVE THEN BECAUSE IT BUILDS UP INTO ONE.

WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE, YOU'RE IMPORTANT HERE AND WE'RE GOING TO BUILD ON THAT.

AND SO YOU SEE SOME OF THE PICTURES THAT MAY BE RUNNING RIGHT NOW.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WAS A LONGSTANDING EL CENTRO TRADITION WAS THIS 5 MINUTES OF FAME CONCEPT. SO WE BOUGHT AN EIGHT BY 20 FOOT STRIP OF RED CARPET.

AND WHEN YOU SEE RED CARPET, YOU THINK HOLLYWOOD AND YOU THINK CELEBRITY.

AND AND WE USE THAT BECAUSE OUR EMPLOYEES ARE ROCK STARS.

AND SO WE TREAT THEM LIKE THAT.

AND SO YOU'LL SEE IN SOME OF THE PHOTOS PEOPLE DANCING THROUGH THAT, NOT ME.

YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THAT.

BUT YOU SEE PEOPLE DANCING ALONG THAT RED CARPET TO WHERE WE SERVE FOOD BECAUSE THAT IS THEIR TIME WHERE WE CALL TIME OUT FOR THE DAY.

AND WE LET PEOPLE JUST CELEBRATE EACH OTHER AND THE HUMANITY OF WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO AS WE SERVE STUDENTS AT EL CENTRAL AND DALLAS COLLEGE.

AND IT'S MAGIC.

AND THEN WE GO BACK TO THE GRIND.

BUT TO BALANCE THAT OUT BETWEEN HEAD DOWN INTENTIONAL WORK, BUT THEN ALSO RECOGNIZING AND CELEBRATING EACH OTHER, THAT BALANCE IS WHAT I THINK GIVES US THAT COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE AS A AS A EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION AND IS REALLY GOING TO BE THE MAGIC BEHIND THIS 22 PLAN AS WE MOVE FORWARD. SO YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME COMMENTS, TOO.

WELL, I'LL JUST LIKE TO ADD, DR.

WILLIAMS IS VERY INTERACTIVE AT THE CAMPUS AS WELL AS AND YOU CAN SEE IT IN THE EMAILS THAT COME ACROSS. HE'S ALWAYS CREATIVE LIKE FOR DALLAS COWBOYS WEAR YOUR JERSEY ARE FOR DOING MARCH MADNESS SUPPORTING YOUR TEAMS AND EVERYTHING.

SO HE KEEPS IT.

WHEREAS SOMETIMES THE INFORMAL IS REALLY A GOOD THING AND IT KEEPS PEOPLE INVOLVED IN ANY TIME THERE'S FOOD.

BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, MY MY THEORY IS IF YOU FEED THEM, THEY WILL COME.

SO ANYTIME THERE'S FOOD INVOLVED, HE LETS EVERYONE KNOW TO COME AND GRAB A PLATE AND JUST SIT AND NETWORK WITH EACH OTHER AND GET TO LEARN WHAT THE DIFFERENT AREAS ARE DOING.

SO I REALLY WANT TO SAY THAT I APPRECIATE THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP FOR MATH THAT'S BEEN DEVELOPED BECAUSE IN THOSE MEETINGS WE TALK ABOUT ALL THE ISSUES, BUT WE ALSO TRY TO CELEBRATE THE GOOD THING.

AND BEING AT EL CENTRO, YOU KNOW, SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE DOWNTOWN ATMOSPHERE, BUT THE THING YOU HAVE TO EMBRACE THAT AND TELL THE STORY.

THERE'S A LOT OF GOOD THINGS THAT GO GOES ON DOWNTOWN THAT EL CENTRO PLAYS A ROLE IN DOING. SO WE GET TO TELL THOSE STORIES.

YOU KNOW, I TELL THEM, YOU KNOW, I WALK PAST OUR HOMELESS COMMUNITY EVERY DAY AND I JUST SPEAK TO EVERYBODY AND THEY ALWAYS HAVE NICE COMING.

SO IT'S ALL ABOUT YOUR PERSPECTIVE OF WHAT'S GOING ON AND HOW YOU EMBRACE THAT AND THEN JUST ENCOURAGE AND EMPLOYEES, YOU KNOW, WE ALL KNOW WE'RE GOING THROUGH A HARD TIME RIGHT NOW. IT'S CHAOS KIND OF IN DEVELOPING DALLAS COLLEGE, BUT THAT'S HAPPENS WITH ANY ORGANIZATION. YOU JUST HAVE TO SIT BACK, ENJOY THE RIDE, FIND YOUR PLACE, AND THEN MAKE THE WORK HAPPEN AND WORK WITH WHAT WE GOT UNTIL WE CONTINUE TO BUILD.

AND A BIG THING I WANT TO THANK DR.

LONDON FOR AND THE REST OF THE LEADERSHIP STAFF IS THOSE LEADERSHIP INSTITUTES THAT YOU SENT US ALL TO, BECAUSE IT REALLY WAS A WAY TO TALK ABOUT WHAT WE WERE FEELING, BUT THEN ALSO TO DISCUSS HOW WE CAN BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR OUR WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO DEPEND ON SENIOR

[00:30:01]

LEADERSHIP TELLING US WHAT TO DO.

SO I THINK ALL THOSE DIFFERENT THINGS TOGETHER HELP BUILD OUR CULTURE.

AND HELP US BECOME MORE ACCOUNTABLE AND UNDERSTAND THE WORK WE'RE DOING.

AND IN THE END, OUR PURPOSE IS TO SERVE OUR STUDENTS.

YEAH, WELL, I APPRECIATE YOU MENTIONING THAT.

I MEAN, CLEARLY ENSURING THAT EMPLOYEES HAVE THE SUPPORT THEY NEED WITH THE TRAINING AND THE DEVELOPMENT THEY NEED. THAT INCLUDES SUPERVISORS AND OTHERS.

WE KNOW THAT'S IMPORTANT AS THINGS HAVE SHUFFLED AROUND AND PEOPLE ARE IN NEW ROLES.

AND AGAIN, SO MUCH OF THIS CONVERSATION OF CREATING THAT SENSE OF PLACE, THAT SENSE OF COMMUNITY THAT, AS I SAID EARLIER, IS HAS BEEN DISRUPTED TO SOME DEGREE.

AND SO MUCH OF IT IS THE ABILITY FOR PEOPLE JUST TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER.

I WAS AT ONE OF THE SMALL GROUP SESSIONS THAT I DID AT ONE OF THE CAMPUSES.

YOU KNOW, THERE WAS SOMEONE ACROSS THE TABLE THAT SAID, YOU KNOW, THEY WERE THEY WERE KIND OF FIRED UP ABOUT IT, SAYING, HEY, I DON'T KNOW WHO DOES THIS.

AND, YOU KNOW, THERE'S A GAP HERE.

AND THE PERSON ACROSS THE TABLE SAID, WELL, I'M ACTUALLY THE PERSON ON THIS CAMPUS THAT DOES THAT, BUT I'M NEW TO THIS CAMPUS.

I WAS AT ANOTHER CAMPUS, BUT THEY DIDN'T KNOW EACH OTHER.

THEY DIDN'T HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE.

AND SO I APPRECIATE YOU ALL ARE LOOKING FOR, AGAIN, FORMAL AND INFORMAL, FUN WAYS, CORNY WAYS, AS IT MAY BE TO ENGAGE SO WE CAN SORT OF REBUILD THAT THAT SENSE OF PLACE AND COMMUNITY. AND BRAD, I APPRECIATE YOUR MENTIONING OF, YOU KNOW, WELCOMING AND ONBOARDING NEW EMPLOYEES TO CAMPUS.

YOU GUYS WERE SAYING EARLIER, BEFORE WE STARTED, KIND OF HOW YOU DO THAT AS WELL.

SO YOU MAY WANT TO MENTION THAT WE HAVE NEWBIES, OUR NEWBIES HAVE BECOME NEWBIES.

AND AGAIN, LIKE Y'ALL AND I'M SURE AT MANY OF THE CAMPUSES, THEY'RE ALL ONBOARDING IN THEIR OWN WAY. BUT WE WELCOME THEM, GIVE THEM THE T SHIRT, DO A CAMPUS TOUR AND THE CAMPUS TOUR, WHICH HAS BEEN VERY, VERY EFFECTIVE FOR US BECAUSE THAT ALLOWS THEM TO COME UP, HAVE CONVERSATION, KNOW WHERE THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE IS.

FIRST OF ALL, HAVE THAT CONVERSATION WITH DR.

T AND THEN GO ON A CAMPUS TOUR, LEARN ABOUT CERT, EMERGENCY, LEARN ABOUT WHERE YOU SHOULD BE IF THERE'S AN EMERGENCY SHOULD ARISE, AND THEN GO ON THE TOUR, GIVE THEM THE TOUR THAT THEY LEARN ABOUT, GIVE THEM THE 15 MINUTE TOUR SO THAT THEY KNOW HOW TO GO FROM ONE BUILDING TO ANOTHER, BUT ALSO MEET EACH OTHER.

AND WE DON'T LET THEM LEAVE WITHOUT KNOWING EACH OTHER AND SAYING, HEY, WILL YOU CALL ONE OF THE NEW PERSONS THAT YOU'VE MET DURING THIS TIME? MAYBE GO AND HAVE LUNCH WITH THEM OR CALL THEM.

AND JUST JUST AGAIN, WE DON'T HAVE MENTEES AND MENTORS FOR EVERYONE, BUT AGAIN, THIS WOULD BE A WAY FOR THEM TO INTERACT AS A NEWBIE.

AND THEN THEN THEY LEAVE WITH A NEW DALLAS COLLEGE SHIRT.

WE'VE GIVEN THEM THE HARVESTER B SHIRT, THEN THEY GET A DALLAS COLLEGE T SHIRT, AND THEN WE ENCOURAGE THEM TO WEAR THEM ON FRIDAY, CASUAL FRIDAYS, LIKE ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES DO.

SO AGAIN, WE'RE TRYING TO BE AS WELCOMING AS POSSIBLE, BUT THEN WE ALSO WANT TO HEAR THEIR IDEAS. WE WANT TO HEAR IF YOU WERE AT ANOTHER CAMPUS, YOU DID SOMETHING GREAT AT EL CENTRO. WE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THAT AND MAYBE WE'LL REPLICATE THAT IDEA.

YOU WERE AT A BUSINESS AND CORPORATE WORLD AND Y'ALL DID SOMETHING SPECIAL.

THEN WE WANT TO LEARN FROM THEM AS WELL.

AND WE'VE ALSO HEARD FROM OTHER EMPLOYEES SAYING, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE THEY LIKE THE IDEA, SO HOW DO WE GET INVOLVED IF WE'RE ALREADY HERE? SO WE'VE KIND OF EXPANDED THAT FROM THAT FEEDBACK.

AND SO NOW WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TACO TUESDAY, WHICH WE GIVE, YOU KNOW, COUPONS OUT TO JUST SUPPORT. AND THIS IS JUST THINGS WE'LL DO THROUGHOUT THE MONTH.

WE'LL HAVE TO BE PAID A PIZZA PAY FOR OR THE CHANCELLOR WILL. BUT AGAIN, JUST A LITTLE BIT OF A THEME.

WE HAD THE COLDEST DAY IN FEBRUARY AND SO WE CALLED IT AND WE SAID, OKAY, WE WANTED TO HONOR THE FOLKS WHO HAD ACTUALLY COME IN TO WORK ON THE COLDEST DAY.

AND WE SAID, OKAY, COME IN.

WE GAVE THEM A NEW DALLAS COLLEGE MUG WITH SOME HOT CHOCOLATE AND HOT TEA, AND WE HONORED THEM FOR BEING HERE AND THAT DAY DOING A COUPLE OF POP UP ACTIVITIES.

BUT TO KIND OF FOLLOW UP WITH THE THEME AND AGAIN GOING BACK TO WHAT WORKS FOR US AND AND EACH CULTURE. SO I MEAN, I THINK GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE THAN YOU DO HOT CHOCOLATE BREAD ON THAT COLD DAY AS WELL.

IT WAS COLD. AND I WANT TO ADD SOMETHING TO, YOU KNOW, THE PRESIDENT'S ROLE HAS CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY. AND SO WHEN WE LOOK AT THE DIRECT AUTHORITY OF A PRESIDENT OVER A CAMPUS POPULATION, THAT IS TOTALLY CHANGED.

AND BUT BUT WHAT WE CAN'T MISS IN THAT IS THAT IT'S KIND OF A TRAGEDY, THE COMMENTS.

RIGHT. NO ONE OWNS IT, BUT EVERYONE OWNS IT.

SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT CAMPUS CULTURE, YOU MAY HAVE A WORK UNIT, BUT THE SUPERVISOR IS ON A DIFFERENT CAMPUS THAT CAN'T NECESSARILY BE THERE ALL THE TIME.

BUT WE'RE ALL STILL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CARE AND FEEDING OF THE CAMPUS POPULATION.

SO WE TRY TO PUSH THIS FORWARD.

AND THAT'S WHY, YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES IT'S LIKE, HEY, WE'LL INVITE OTHER PEOPLE JUST TO COME BE PART OF AN EVENT, WHETHER THEY'RE ON CAMPUS OR NOT.

BUT AT EL CENTRO, THERE'S FIVE BUILDINGS, RIGHT? AND OUR AND PARAMOUNT IN ONE MAIN.

[00:35:01]

AND SO TRYING TO TO KIND OF MAKE SURE WE STAY AWARE OF NOT EVERYBODY CAN COME TO CENTRAL.

CAMPUS. SO WE'RE WORKING OUR OWN DELIVERY ROUTES TO LIKE LIKE THE REST OF THE CAMPUSES.

BUT IT'S KIND OF ONE OF THOSE THINGS IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF LEADERSHIP.

BUT THIS IS MORE OF A CHARISMATIC KIND OF LEADERSHIP, A LITTLE BIT OF TRANSACTIONAL AND ALL THAT OTHER. BUT IT'S WE ALL OWN A PIECE OF THIS WITHOUT ALWAYS HAVING TO GO BACK TO IT. IT'S NOT MY JOB DESCRIPTION AND IT'S NOT MY DEAL OR WHATEVER.

WE ALL OWN THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY.

AND SO WE LOOK FOR WAYS TO BE INTENTIONAL IN THAT.

WELL, LET'S TALK ABOUT THAT BECAUSE AGAIN, I THINK I MEAN, THE CORNY IS IMPORTANT AND THE HOT CHOCOLATE STUFF'S IMPORTANT TO TO BUILD THAT SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND THAT SENSE OF CULTURE, THE DALLAS COLLEGE CULTURE.

BUT RECOGNIZING THAT THERE'S UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTS THAT EXIST AT ALL THE LOCATIONS THAT YOU ALL ARE FOCUSING ON.

BUT LET'S TALK ABOUT SOME OF THOSE SUBSTANTIVE THINGS AND TALK ABOUT THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAMS. LENORE REFERENCED THOSE AND INFORMATION WENT OUT ABOUT THOSE TEAMS YESTERDAY. AND, YOU KNOW, THOSE ISSUES THAT MAY BE UNIQUE TO YOUR CAMPUSES OR ISSUES THAT ARE PART OF OUR ACTION 2022 INITIATIVE THAT SPEAK TO THE BROADER ISSUES THAT HAVE BEEN BROUGHT UP ACROSS THE COLLEGE.

YOU KNOW, TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAMS AND HOW THAT WORKS AND AND HOW EMPLOYEES ON YOUR CAMPUS CAN PLUG IN WHEN THEY SEE AN ISSUE THAT THAT MAY BE OF INTEREST TO TO THE CAMPUS OR TO THE LARGER COLLEGE.

I LOVE THE FACT THAT IT'S PRETTY MUCH A CONTINUOUS LOOP OF FEEDBACK, SO I THINK IT'S REALLY AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF MAKING SURE INFORMATION IS COMMUNICATED CONSISTENTLY FROM THE CAMPUS LEVEL UP TO THE MOST SENIOR LEVEL.

AND SO SINCE WE ARE SITTING THERE WITH DIFFERENT FUNCTIONAL EXPERTIZE, PEOPLE WITH THAT EXPERTIZE THAT WE HEAR FROM ALL THE POCKETS OF THE CAMPUS, WE TAKE THAT COMMUNICATION AND WE SHARE IT WITH SENIOR LEADERSHIP.

THEY ARE ABLE TO SYNTHESIZE WHAT THEY'RE HEARING AND, YOU KNOW, PUSH SOME OF THAT BACK, WHICH IS THE ACTION 22.

BUT IT'S CONSISTENT.

SO IT'S NOT LIKE AN APPROACH THAT YOU DO ONCE AND YOU'RE DONE.

IT'S A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT WAY OF DOING THAT.

SO, YOU KNOW, WE'VE HAD A LOT OF FUN WITH IT.

WE THINK THAT IT'S A WAY THAT PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEIR VOICES HAVE BEEN HEARD.

AND SO WE'RE REALLY INTERESTED IN WHERE THIS TAKES US IN THE FUTURE.

WELL, I JUST THINK THAT IT'S PROBABLY THE BEST THING THAT WE'VE DONE WITH DALLAS COLLEGE, THE FACT THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE KNOWING ALL OF THE INFORMATION INSTEAD OF HAVING TO PULL THAT INFORMATION FROM ALL OF THE FUNCTIONAL AREAS, IT'S GOING TO BE TRULY HELPFUL FOR OUR BETTER AND MORE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION.

SO WE APPLAUD THOSE EFFORTS.

AGAIN, I KNOW THAT WE'RE ALL LEARNING.

WE'VE ONLY HAD TWO MEETINGS, BUT WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SHARE WITH OUR COLLEGE COMMUNITY, OUR CAMPUS COMMUNITY IS GOING TO BE EXCELLENT.

AND SO WE APPLAUD Y'ALL.

YEAH, I WANT TO ADD SOMETHING TO THAT.

SO FOR OUR FIRST MEETING, I ASKED MAGGIE, MY ASSISTANT.

I SAID, LET'S FIND THE WORST CLASSROOM THAT WE HAVE ON CAMPUS THAT HAS NO TECHNOLOGY.

THE FURNITURE IS BAD BECAUSE IF THIS IS A CORE LEADERSHIP GROUP AND WE'RE ONLY AS A SYSTEM AS GOOD AS OUR WORST PRODUCT, THEN LET'S MEET THERE SO EVERYBODY'S AWARE OF IT.

AND SO WE GOT INSIDE THAT SPACE CHAIRS WERE UNCOMFORTABLE, TECHNOLOGY KIND OF WORKED, BUT IT SHOWED EVERYBODY WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE LITTLE THINGS AND THE BIG THINGS AS WE TRY TO UNFOLD THIS.

AND SOMETIMES YOU DON'T SEE THAT UNLESS YOU'RE IN THE SPACE.

AND SO THAT WAS A STRATEGY OF OURS.

I WAS HOPING, BECAUSE WE ALL HATE MEETING FOR THE SAKE OF MEETING, BUT I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT LET'S ONLY MEET ONCE PER MONTH.

AND I EVEN SAID THAT WE'RE ONLY GOING TO DO THIS ONE ONCE, BUT BUT THERE'S ENOUGH CONTENT TO COVER IT TWICE, IF NOT MORE, IF WE DO THIS RIGHT.

AND SO I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE SAW IN OUR FIRST MEETING OR EVEN SECOND ONE IS THERE'S A THERE'S A NEED FOR AN HOUR PLUS JUST TO KIND OF WORK THROUGH SOME OF THAT.

AND I APPRECIATE THE TRANSPARENCY OF IT.

LIKE SHERYL WAS SAYING, I'M ONE OF THE ASSIGNED NO TAKERS.

SO WE HAVE TO TAKE NOTES AND MAKE SURE THOSE NOTES GET TO THE SENIOR LEADERSHIP.

SO EVEN DR.

WILLIAMS WOULD BE LIKE, WHERE ARE WE? WHERE ARE WE DOING TOUCHING THIS? BUT I LOVE THE WAY EVEN LIL NORRIS SINCE THE EMAILS TO FOLLOW UPS AND HAVE YOU PUT YOUR NOTES IN, WHICH IS SHOWING ME THAT THERE IS SOME PEOPLE THAT CARE AT THE TOP AND REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON AND REALLY ARE OPEN TO ADDRESSING THE ISSUE.

SO IT'S NOT JUST FOR FACE HOUR, LET'S JUST DO THIS.

AND WHAT I'VE ALSO BEEN DOING WHEN I HAVE MY STAFF MEETINGS NOW, I'M TAKING THAT INFORMATION BACK TO THEM TO KNOW.

SO, YES, YOUR CONCERNS ARE BEING ADDRESSED AND IT'S NOT JUST BEING ADDRESSED AT OUR LEVEL. WE'RE TAKING IT TO SENIOR LEADERSHIP SO THEY CAN HEAR WHAT'S GOING ON.

AND THAT'S WHAT THOSE MEETINGS DO.

THEY CREATE THAT OPPORTUNITY TO REALLY TALK ABOUT EVERYTHING AND ADDRESS EVERYONE'S ISSUES. WE MAY HAVE TO REPHRASE SOME.

THAT'S IN THE NOTES WE DO.

THERE'S SOME COLORFUL WE DO.

SOMETIMES WE DO LIKE, LET'S CLEAN THAT UP BEFORE IT COMES TO YOU.

YEAH, I GOT AN EMAIL FROM SOMEONE SAYING THANK YOU FOR FIXING THAT.

[00:40:03]

WHY I WOULDN'T SOUND THE WAY I SAID IT.

SO YEAH. WE DRESS THEM UP, WE MAKE SURE.

YEAH. I LOVE THE STRUCTURE OF IT TOO, THAT IT'S CONSISTENT AT EACH CAMPUS SO THAT EQUITY IS BUILT INTO THE PROCESS.

AND I THINK THAT'S REALLY NICE.

AND I THINK THE COLLABORATION, YOU KNOW, MOVE US EVEN FURTHER UP TO THE NEXT LEVEL.

WELL, BECAUSE AGAIN, THEY'RE CROSS-FUNCTIONAL TEAMS. AND AS BRAD SAID, IT'S IT'S IRREGARDLESS OF WHERE WHO REPORTS TO WHERE, BUT IT'S REALLY FOCUSED ON OUTCOMES AND AND TRYING TO MAKE SURE WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THAT CAMPUS, AT THAT LOCATION IS BEING ADDRESSED AND SERVING AS A VOICE FOR FOR THE LARGER ISSUES THAT WE'RE ALL ADDRESSING THROUGH ACTION 2022.

AND SO SOME OF THE PRE QUESTIONS THAT THAT WE RECEIVED WAS HOW TO SPECIFICALLY FACULTY, YOU KNOW, HOW TO FACULTY PLUG IN AND BE HEARD.

NOW CERTAINLY I MEET WITH OUR FACULTY LEADERSHIP AND OUR SCHOOL FACULTY LEADERSHIP, AS DOES DR.

FLOYD. BUT, YOU KNOW, FOR FOR INDIVIDUAL FOLKS ON YOUR CAMPUSES, CERTAINLY THERE'S THERE'S PEOPLE THAT ARE PLUGGING INTO YOUR CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAMS. BUT JUST THOUGHTS ON, YOU KNOW, ON HOW PEOPLE CAN PLUG IN AND RAISE ISSUES AS THEY SEE THEM. WELL, WE HAVE OUR FACULTY ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT THAT'S THERE ON OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM AND IT'S REALLY NICE.

AND SO WE'RE TAKING THAT GROUP AND WE'RE EXPANDING IT TO OUR COMMUNITY, INVOLVING THEM IN MORE OF OUR BANQUETS, OUR CHAMBERS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO NOT JUST SO FOCUSED ON WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE CAMPUS, BUT GIVING THEM A BROADER PERSPECTIVE OF THE COMMUNITIES WE SERVE.

AND SO NOW WE'VE DECIDED THAT WITH EACH OF THOSE EVENTS THAT WE HAVE, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE EXTRA TABLE FOR OUR FOR THOSE FUNCTIONAL AREA LEADERS THAT ARE ON THAT TEAM.

AND SO THEY GET TO TAKE THAT BACK OF NOT ONLY WHAT'S HAPPENING WITHIN THE CAMPUS, BUT ALSO WHAT'S HAPPENING ON THE BROADER SPECTRUM OF THE COMMUNITY.

I THINK OUR FACULTY ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT REALLY HAD A NICE TIME AND HE BUT WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO BRING BACK TO HIS COLLEAGUES AND OTHERS IS THAT, AGAIN, THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO BE A PART OF OUR EXTERNAL COMMUNITY.

WE'RE SO INVOLVED WITH OUR INTERNAL COMMUNITY, BUT NOW WE'RE GOING TO SEE WHAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE WHAT THE PRESIDENT AND DOES ON A REGULAR 2 TO 4 OR FIVE EVENINGS A MONTH OF THE RUBBER CHICKEN CIRCUIT SLASH AND OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT WE'RE INVOLVED IN.

BUT I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE GREAT FOR ALL OF US.

AND I KNOW ALL THE CAMPUSES WILL HAVE THAT SAME EXPERIENCE.

YEAH. SOMETHING TO ADD THERE IS IS WE HAVE THE MEETING TWICE A MONTH, BUT THEN I PICK UP ANOTHER MEETING WHERE IT'S REALLY WHAT'S ON FIRE AND WHAT WE'RE LITERALLY RIGHT.

AND WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ENCOURAGE IS IF YOU IF THERE'S AN ISSUE, YOU DON'T WAIT UNTIL THE FORMAL MEETING HAPPENS, WHICH CREATES A FIRE OF ITS OWN.

AND SO THAT'S WHY I THINK WE ALL CARRY OPEN DOOR POLICIES.

WE'RE LIKE, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

BUT LIKE WE TALKED IN A MEETING EARLIER THIS WEEK, THE IMPORTANCE OF A WORK ORDER SYSTEM, IF THERE'S AN ISSUE SOMEWHERE REGISTERED THAT AND SOMEONE WILL GET BACK WITH YOU.

BUT THE ONLY WAY WE CAN TRULY TRACK THE NEED TO GROW CERTAIN AREAS IS BY TRACKING THE VOLUME OF WHETHER IT BE WORK ORDERS OR WHATNOT.

AND SO, AGAIN, TRYING TO GET PEOPLE TO IN TEAMS TO UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DON'T SAVE YOUR ISSUE FOR A FORMAL MEETING.

IF IT'S IF IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS, LET'S ADDRESS IT ON THE SPOT VERSUS WAITING. WAITING THAT, WAITING ON THAT OR SAVING IT.

SO. WELL, I MEAN, YOU REFERENCED EARLIER THE THE ROLE OF THE PRESIDENT HAS CHANGED.

AND YOU MENTIONED THE THE EXTERNAL ASPECT OF THAT THAT THAT CERTAINLY OUR EXTERNAL COMMUNITY HAS SOME HIGH EXPECTATIONS OF WHAT DALLAS COLLEGE IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO DO FOR THEM. AND CERTAINLY IN THIS ENVIRONMENT, WITH THE CHANGING NATURE OF WORK, WITH THE NUMBER OF JOB OPENINGS THAT EXIST, THAT OUR EMPLOYERS ARE BEATING OUR DOOR DOWN, SAYING, CAN YOU GUYS HELP HELP US BUILD OUR PIPELINE? HELP US BUILD OUR WORKFORCE? AND SO SO I APPRECIATE THAT THE PRESIDENTS AND OUR WORKFORCE TEAM ARE SPENDING TIME DOING THAT WHILE WE'RE ALSO ADDRESSING THE ON CAMPUS LOCATION SPECIFIC ISSUES.

AND BRAD, YOU AGAIN TALKING ABOUT THE CHANGING NATURE OF THE PRESIDENT'S ROLE.

WHAT WAS THE STORY? I HEARD THAT YOU RECENTLY FIXED THE DOOR LATCH OR SOMETHING, SO, YEAH, YEAH. YOU KNOW, WHEN ANY OF US MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE, THEN YOU BECOME A PROBLEM SOLVER ON THE FLY, RIGHT? AND SO IT'S LITTLE THINGS THAT MAY HAVE TIME HAVE ELAPSED, BUT IT COULD BE LIGHT BULBS IN A CERTAIN AREA OR PLASMA SCREEN ADVERTISEMENT STILL DATED 2019 OR A DOOR LATCH ON A RESTROOM DEAL. RIGHT.

SO YOU BECOME A FIXER.

YOU OFTEN TALK ABOUT PICK UP THE DEAD BIRDS IF YOU SEE ONE.

THERE ARE TIMES WE'RE CREATING MORE DEAD BIRDS EVERY DAY AS A SYSTEM.

SO WE'RE PICKING UP OUR OWN MESSES SOMETIMES, BUT WE'RE WORKING THROUGH THAT.

BUT I THINK YOU'LL SEE A CONTINUED DECLINE AND THE NUMBER OF ISSUES THAT ARE JUST

[00:45:03]

APPARENT AS WE GET A BETTER HANDLE ON.

PROCESSES THAT THAT GOVERN SOME OF THOSE THINGS.

YEAH, WELL I THINK THAT'S FAIR AND I APPRECIATE THE DEAD BIRD REFERENCE FOR, FOR THOSE THAT MAY NOT KNOW IT IS THAT THERE'S A DEAD BIRD BY THE DOOR OF THE STUDENT SERVICES BUILDING AND EVERYBODY WALKING PAST SAYING, I WISH SOMEBODY WOULD DEAL WITH THAT.

I WISH SOMEBODY WOULD WOULD PICK THAT UP.

SO I APPRECIATE THAT. THAT'S WHAT SO MUCH OF THIS IS ABOUT, IS IDENTIFYING THOSE ISSUES, ADDRESSING THOSE ISSUES AND DOING IT IN A COMPREHENSIVE WAY ACROSS THE COLLEGE WHEN ALSO RECOGNIZING THE UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTS AND THAT EXISTS AT AT EACH OF THE LOCATIONS AS WE ROLL UP AND BUILD THE LARGER CULTURE.

SO SO I APPRECIATE THE WORK THAT AND THE THOUGHTFULNESS THAT YOU ALL ARE DOING AND OTHER PRESIDENTS ARE DOING, THE OTHER CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAMS ARE DOING, BECAUSE I THINK WHAT YOU'VE DESCRIBED IS REFLECTIVE OF WHAT'S GOING ON AND WHAT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO GO ON ACROSS ALL OF THE CAMPUSES.

SO LET ME ALSO MENTION A COUPLE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD RECEIVED.

AND SOME OF THESE GET KIND OF SPECIFIC KIND OF QUICKLY.

AND I'LL JUST START WITH ONE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT CAME IN AND SAID, YOU KNOW, THE THE FORMAT OF DOING THESE Q&A SESSIONS AND, YOU KNOW, HOW DO YOU SELECT THE QUESTIONS THAT GET ASKED? AND ARE YOU JUST TRYING TO TAKE THE ONES THAT MAKE YOU ALL LOOK THE BEST? AND SO I I'LL TAKE THE SPIRIT OF THE QUESTION THAT CERTAINLY WHEN WE DO THESE SORT OF THINGS, WE'VE DONE THE THE THE THE TOWN HALL FORMAT IN THE PAST, THERE ARE SOME QUESTIONS THAT COME IN THAT ARE A LITTLE MORE NARROW AND A LITTLE MORE SPECIFIC.

AND SO WE TRY TO ANSWER THOSE ON SHAREPOINT OR ELSEWHERE, AND WE TRY TO TAKE THE COLLECTION OF THE THE BROADEST COLLECTION OF QUESTIONS WHERE WE MAY GET SEVERAL VERSIONS OF THEM IN DIFFERENT WAYS, LIKE THE MORALE QUESTION THAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING SO MUCH ABOUT. BUT, YOU KNOW, WE TRY TO BE AS TRANSPARENT AND ANSWER QUESTIONS IN THE BEST WAY THAT WE CAN. BUT ALSO KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS NOT THE ONLY FORMAT TO DO THIS.

SO SOME OF WHAT YOU ALL DESCRIBE IS GOING ON ON YOUR LOCATIONS ARE WAYS TO DO THAT AS WAYS TO PLUG IN WITH SOME OF THOSE QUESTIONS.

THE LUNCH AND LEARNS THAT THAT YOU DESCRIBE LEONORA ARE CERTAINLY A GREAT WAY TO DO THAT AND WE'LL BE DOING MORE OF THE INFORMAL SORT OF OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL.

SO HOPEFULLY EVERYONE DOES FEEL AN OPPORTUNITY TO PLUG IN.

AND THE OTHER THING I'LL SAY, THERE WAS A QUESTION ABOUT EVEN THE TIMING OF THIS TODAY WHEN A LOT OF FACULTY ARE IN CLASS.

I GET THAT, UNDERSTAND THAT.

AND THERE IS NO PERFECT TIME NECESSARILY TO TO ENGAGE IN SOME OF THESE CONVERSATIONS.

BUT NEWS IS, IS THAT THIS THIS BROADCAST LIVES FOREVER.

AND SO YOU CAN CLICK AT YOUR OWN LEISURE AND BE ABLE TO CATCH UP ON WHAT YOU MAY HAVE MISSED IF YOU WERE IN THE CLASSROOM AND ELSEWHERE.

SO LET ME TURN TO A COUPLE OF THE QUESTIONS THAT CAME IN.

THERE WERE QUESTIONS AROUND COMPENSATION.

AND SPECIFICALLY THE QUESTION IS, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR ADDRESSING COMPENSATIONS AND BENEFITS TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE COMPETITIVE IN TODAY'S JOB MARKET? GREAT QUESTION. I REFERENCED EARLIER THE CHANGING NATURE OF WORK AND THE CHANGING ECONOMY AND THE GREAT RESHUFFLING THAT IS HAPPENING.

AND SO I WANT TO BE MINDFUL OF OF THAT.

CERTAINLY, COMPENSATION IS A BIG COMPONENT, A BIG PART OF THAT.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, AS AS WE REFERENCED EARLIER, WE'RE DOING A COMPREHENSIVE COMPENSATION REVIEW THAT WE'VE NOT DONE IN A DOZEN PLUS YEARS TO REALLY SEE HOW ARE WE POSITIONED IN THE MARKETPLACE? ARE THOSE ROLES POSITIONED IN THE RIGHT WAY? AND SO THAT IS IN PROGRESS.

WE'VE HIRED AN OUTSIDE CONSULTANT TO ASSIST US WITH THAT, TO BRING SOME EXPERTIZE.

AND SO THEY'RE ENGAGED IN THAT.

AND LINOR, I KNOW YOU'VE BEEN ENGAGED WITH SHERI AND RIGHT.

AND OUR HR TEAM AROUND THAT A LITTLE BIT.

SO YOU MAY SPEAK TO THE KIND OF THE TIMELINE WE'RE OPERATING ON.

YEAH, I'D LOVE TO. SO, YES, WE'VE ALREADY STARTED ENGAGING IN THAT PROCESS.

SO GOOD NEWS IS IT HAS ALREADY LAUNCHED.

SO I KNOW THAT THAT WAS KIND OF THE SPECIFIC QUESTION.

WE ARE DOING BENCHMARKING AGAINST NATIONAL STANDARDS.

SO THAT IS PART OF THE PROCESS AS REFERENCED EARLIER.

BUT GETTING SPECIFICALLY TO TIMELINE, THIS TYPICALLY TAKES ABOUT 12 TO 14 MONTHS.

BUT THAT BEING SAID, THERE ARE THINGS THAT COULD HAPPEN INCREMENTALLY SO THAT, YOU KNOW, JUST SAYING, OH, IT'S GOING TO BE A YEAR FROM NOW BEFORE I SEE ANY RESULTS DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN THAT'S THE CASE IN THIS PARTICULAR INSTANCE.

SO I DO BELIEVE THERE IS AN EMAIL ADDITIONALLY COMING OUT IN REGARD TO THE COMPENSATION TODAY. AND SO I WOULD ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO REVIEW THAT.

AND I KNOW THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE UPDATES ON THE HR WEBSITE COMING SOON AS WELL.

[00:50:01]

AND SO WITH, YOU KNOW, THERE'S THE COMPENSATION SIDE.

AND THEN THE OTHER PART OF THE QUESTION WAS AROUND.

NO BENEFITS. AND SO AS LENORA LAID OUT, AS I MENTIONED AT THE BEGINNING, THINGS LIKE A NEW FLEX WORK PROGRAM TO REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT ROLES CAN FUNCTION WELL IN A IN A REMOTE ENVIRONMENT OR A FLEX SCHEDULE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK OF SOME PHYSICAL PRESENCE AND OTHER TIMES THAT MAY BE MORE REMOTE OR NATURE IN NATURE.

SO SO AS LENORE SAID EARLIER, YOU KNOW, LOOK FOR THAT SURVEY, LOOK FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO PLUG IN THERE, BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT IS IMPORTANT, NOT JUST FOR THE MORALE ISSUE, NOT JUST FOR THE SAKE OF THE WORK THAT THAT OUR EMPLOYEES DO, BUT, QUITE FRANKLY, TO ENSURE THAT WE CAN BE COMPETITIVE IN THE MARKETPLACE, AS SO MANY BUSINESSES AND INDUSTRIES ARE LOOKING DIFFERENTLY ABOUT HOW EMPLOYEES DO WORK.

AND SO. SO ANYWAY, THAT WILL BE ONGOING.

HOPEFULLY THAT THAT THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

AND THEN ALSO, AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, THE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT SURVEY, WE'VE NOT DONE ONE OF THOSE IN A DOZEN OR SO YEARS EITHER.

BUT WE DO WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU.

WE WE WANT TO USE THAT INSTRUMENT KIND OF AS A BASELINE TO HELP US, YOU KNOW, TAKE A PULSE, TAKE A GAUGE, AND THEN IT HELPS US IDENTIFY WHERE WE NEED TO BUILD FROM THERE, WHERE WE NEED TO PLACE RESOURCES.

BUT IT FITS INTO ACTION.

2022. IT FITS INTO THE OVERALL DALLAS 2030 PLAN THAT WAS COLLEGE 2030 PLAN THAT AS WE LOOK LONG TERM, WHAT KIND OF INSTITUTION DO WE WANT TO BE OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS? AND WE'LL HAVE SOME HIGH ASPIRATIONAL GOALS ABOUT ABOUT WHAT WE WANT TO BE.

AND SO, AGAIN, THAT'LL HELP US, YOU KNOW, PLOT OUT THE ROADMAP TO GET THERE, BECAUSE I WANT THIS INSTITUTION TO BE IDENTIFIED AS A BEST PLACE TO WORK FOR.

AND I REALIZE THAT WE'VE GOT A WE'VE GOT A GAP THAT WE'VE GOT TO ADDRESS, BUT WE'RE GOING TO BE VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT DOING THAT ALONG THE WAY.

SO SO I THINK, YOU KNOW, WE'RE GOING TO BE MINDFUL OF CERTAINLY THE MORALE ISSUES, THE CULTURE ISSUES THAT THAT WE'VE BEEN DISCUSSING AND THEN THE OVERALL SENSE OF I'M OVERWORKED, I'M OVERWHELMED BURNOUT.

THOSE ARE REAL ISSUES.

AND SO AS LEONORA TALKED EARLIER ABOUT HOW WE TAKE A LOOK AT STAFFING PATTERNS, MAKING SURE THAT WHERE WE NEED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS, THEN WE'LL WE'LL ASSESS THAT AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS ACCORDINGLY.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I'VE SAID A LOT IS WE'VE GOT TO ALSO GIVE EACH OTHER GRACE AND HELP SUPPORT EACH OTHER TO WORK THROUGH THIS THIS TRANSITION, THE CONSOLIDATION, THE THE PANDEMIC, ALL OF THE IMPACT THAT THAT'S THAT'S HAD ON US.

SO I WANT TO GET TO SOME OF THE OTHER QUESTIONS THAT HAVE COME UP.

ONE WAS, HOW CAN I FIND WHERE CERTAIN EMPLOYEES ARE LOCATED? WHAT ARE WE DOING IN THE COMMUNITY TO HELP SPREAD THE WORD THAT DALLAS COLLEGE IS HERE TO HELP? SO WHEN YOU MAY OR MAY WANT TO MENTION THE FIRST PART ABOUT JUST WHERE EMPLOYEES ARE LOCATED AND YOU REFERENCE SOME OF THIS, BUT TALK ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT.

SURE. HAPPY TO YOU.

SO THERE IS A PORTION ON E CONNECT WHERE YOU CAN GO IN AND UPDATE YOUR OFFICE INFORMATION. AND I KNOW THERE WAS A BIG PUSH AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, BUT I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO AHEAD AND UPDATE YOUR OFFICE INFORMATION IN THAT LINK IF IT'S STILL AVAILABLE, BECAUSE THAT IS GOING TO UPDATE ACTIVE DIRECTORY.

SO THAT IS GOING TO HELP PEOPLE KNOW WHERE THEY ARE.

SO WHEN YOU CLICK ON THE ICON IN OUTLOOK, YOU'LL SEE WHERE THEY'RE LOCATED.

AND THEN YEAH, I THINK WE'RE JUST ALSO WORKING THROUGH THE DIRECTORY INFORMATION AND JUST UPDATING THAT AS THEY AS CHANGES ARE MADE.

SO THAT'S WHAT I WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO DO.

AND THEN PRESIDENT, YOU MIGHT WANT TO SPEAK A LITTLE BIT TO THE YOU KNOW, TO THE WORK IN THE COMMUNITY TO ENSURE THAT THE COMMUNITY KNOWS WHAT THE NEW DALLAS COLLEGE IS, WHAT IT MEANS, AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP.

SECONDLY, SO THE FIRST ONE ON THE LET'S GO TO THE DIRECTORY QUESTION SO I CAN TAG TEAM ON THAT ONE. SO WE'VE GONE FLOOR BY FLOOR TRYING TO MAKE SURE WE KNOW WHERE EVERYONE IS AND BUILDING OUR OWN INTERNAL EMAIL LIST JUST BECAUSE WE'RE TRYING TO IDENTIFY THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT COMES IN HANDY FOR THE CERT TEAMS TRYING TO MAINTAIN SAFETY.

BUT BUT, BUT THE DIRECTORY UPDATE IS SO IMPORTANT FOR SO MANY REASONS.

SO ANYWAY, THE OTHER PIECE ON THE COMMUNITY SIDE.

SO FIRST, THIS IS WHY CULTURE WORK IS SO IMPORTANT BECAUSE IF WE'RE GOING TO POUR INTO OTHER PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITIES, WE HAVE TO HAVE SOMETHING TO POUR, RIGHT? AND SO THAT'S WHY THE CULTURE WORK TO INVEST IN OUR EMPLOYEES WITH FACULTY AND STAFF AND AND EVERYONE TO MAKE SURE WE'RE PRIMED AND READY TO PUT FORTH THE BEST PRODUCT THAT THEN POSITION US TO BE ULTIMATE AND RESPONSIVENESS IN THE COMMUNITY.

SO IT'S COMMUNITY MEETINGS.

I THINK NEXT WEEK KATHY ACOSTA'S TEAM WITH THE WORKFORCE IS DOING A NONPROFIT GATHERING.

[00:55:04]

AND SO IT'S JUST HOW DO.

WE HIT THESE THINGS IN CLUSTERS AND MANAGE THE CLOCK AND WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER SOMETIMES, AND MANAGE THESE IN BUNDLES IN A WAY RATHER THAN ONE OFFS.

THAT TAKES SO MUCH TIME TO DO, AND THERE'S WAYS TO DO THAT WITH LISTS THAT WE HAVE AND SALESFORCE TOOL IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT TO, BUT IT'S BEING VISIBLE.

BUT AGAIN, I GO BACK TO THE CULTURE PIECE MAKING SURE THAT AS WE GO OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY THAT WE HAVE THE WE'VE INVESTED IN OUR PEOPLE IN WAYS THAT ALLOW THEM TO BE AND PUT OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD AS A AS A SYSTEM, AS WE THEN CARRY THAT CONFIDENCE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING TO US FOR HELP RIGHT NOW AND A CRAZY WORLD THAT IS OUR NATIVE WORKFORCE.

YEAH. SO ONE OF THE GREAT THINGS ABOUT DALLAS COLLEGE, NOW WE HAVE RESOURCES FROM THE WORKFORCE SIDE, FROM THE ACADEMIC SIDE.

SO I COULD SAY ALL OF MY COLLEAGUES, ALL THE PRESIDENTS ARE OUT DOING THIS INCREDIBLE WORK. SO WHAT DOES THAT REALLY MEAN? SO IT'S REALLY GATHERING THOSE ISSUES THAT IMPACT OUR IMMEDIATE COMMUNITIES AND LEARNING HOW TO UNDERSTAND THAT NEED AND BRING THAT BACK TO DALLAS COLLEGE AND DOING THOSE CROSS FUNCTIONAL TEAMS. AND SO IN MANY CASES, THE PRESIDENTS ARE DOING SOME OF THAT MEET AND GREET WORK, YOU KNOW, WITH THE CHAMBERS INTRODUCING SOME OF THE DALLAS COLLEGE FOLKS INTO THOSE COMMUNITIES.

BUT, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE DONE AT EASTVILLE, WE'VE HEARD SO MANY ISSUES FROM SO MANY AREAS IN THE COMMUNITY.

IT'S REALLY BRINGING THE COMMUNITY TOGETHER AND SAY, OKAY, WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS WE WANT TO SOLVE TOGETHER AS LEADERS? AND SO THAT'S CONVENING SOME OF OUR NONPROFITS, AS YOU MENTIONED, BRAD, BUT IT'S ALSO CONVENING INDIVIDUALS, LEADERS FROM THE COMMUNITY, SUCH AS WHAT WE'VE DONE WITH THE PRESIDENT'S ADVISORY TEAM.

AND THOSE ARE THE LEADERS ACROSS THE EAST DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY.

AND WE COME TOGETHER ON A QUARTERLY BASIS.

THERE'S ABOUT TEN OF US FROM ALL SECTORS.

AND SO WE COME TOGETHER AND WE SAY, WHAT DO WE WANT TO DO FROM A LEADERSHIP ROLE? SO SOME OF THOSE ARE WORKFORCE, CHILDCARE.

SOME OF THE THINGS IS TRANSPORTATION WHERE WE KNOW THAT'S A BIGGER LIKE MORE STATE LEVEL ISSUE. SO WE START, WE HONE IN ON THOSE THINGS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO CHANGE SO WE DON'T STOP THERE.

WE'VE INVITED OUR SCHOOLS OF LEADERSHIP TO BE PART OF THOSE MEETINGS.

AND MATTER OF FACT, THEY SIT RIGHT IN THOSE MEETINGS, SO THEY HEAR FIRSTHAND.

AND IT'S REALLY BEEN VERY EFFECTIVE BECAUSE IT DOESN'T JUST STOP NOW WITH THE PRESIDENT, IT NOW MOVES THROUGH DALLAS COLLEGE.

AND SO I THINK THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT WAY THAT WE GET THE WORD OUT, IS LETTING OUR TEAM BE PART OF THOSE COLLABORATIVE CONVERSATIONS AND IN THE NEW STRUCTURE, JUST AS I WANT PEOPLE TO TRUST ME OR HAVE CONFIDENCE IN WHAT I OFFER, I HAVE TO TRUST THE HANDOFF TO WHOEVER IS NEXT ON THAT LINE OR IS PART OF THE TEAM.

AND SO THAT'S WHY WE'RE BEING ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

YOU KNOW, I'M NOT GOING TO OWN EVERY STEP OF THAT, BUT THAT'S WHY WE HAVE TEAMS IN PLACE UNDER THE NEW STRUCTURE TO MANAGE THAT.

AND IT TAKES EVERYBODY TO LIFT THIS THING AND BEST SERVE THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE.

THEY'RE GRATEFUL TO THE MARKETING TEAM WHEN THEY WERE ABLE TO HELP US, AND PARTICULARLY WITH OUR NONPROFIT GROUP SHARING THE INFORMATION THAT THEY HAD ON THE WEBSITE ALREADY.

AND ALL THAT MATERIAL WAS JUST SO IMPORTANT FOR OUR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS.

AND SO THEN TO RECEIVE UPDATES AND THE MATERIALS THAT WE NEED, WE'RE MOST APPRECIATIVE OF THAT AS WELL. SO KUDOS TO PATTY AND HER TEAM.

WE KNOW IT'S A DAUNTING PROCESS OF JUST UPDATING MATERIALS, KEEPING OUR WEBSITE UPDATED AND ALL OF THAT INFORMATION IS VERY, VERY DIFFICULT.

BUT WE APPRECIATE THE EFFORTS THAT ARE BEING MADE FOR THAT.

YEAH, WELL, SO WE'VE ONLY GOT A COUPLE OF MINUTES LEFT, SO I'LL KIND OF DO DO A LIGHTNING ROUND OF SOME QUESTIONS THAT HAVE COME IN AROUND AGAIN BACK TO BACK TO THE COMPENSATION STUDY AND REVIEW AND SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING ON THE HR SIDE.

WE HAD A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS ABOUT ABOUT SHERI ENRIGHT LEAVING AS CHIEF HUMAN RESOURCES OFFICER. AND SO WOULD WE FALL BEHIND IN ADDRESSING SOME OF THOSE INITIATIVES? NO, WE WON'T. WE'RE GOING TO KEEP KEEP ON MOVING WITH WITH THOSE.

ALSO HAD A QUESTION ABOUT ABOUT OUR OUR POLICE FORCE AND SOME OF THE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE HAVE IN ATTRACTING AND RETAINING OFFICERS.

THAT IS A A NATIONAL ISSUE AND CHALLENGE.

IT'S A VERY COMPETITIVE MARKET.

AND SO I'M CERTAINLY IN TUNE WITH THAT AND APPRECIATE THE THE LEADERSHIP OF CHIEF HILL TO FOCUS ON THAT. AND AND WE COMMITTED WITH THE COMPENSATION REVIEW THAT WE'RE STARTING WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT SAFETY IS SOMETHING THAT IMPACTS ALL OF US.

AND SO WE CERTAINLY WANT TO BE MINDFUL AND SENSITIVE TO THAT.

ALSO IN THE LIGHTNING ROUND, WE HAD QUESTIONS ABOUT WORKDAY.

SO IT'S NOT ENOUGH THAT WE'VE HAD TRANSITION AND PANDEMIC, BUT WE ALSO ARE CHANGING OUR TECHNOLOGY BACKBONE, BUT ALL DESIGNED TO MAKE THINGS EASIER FOR STUDENTS AND FOR

[01:00:03]

EMPLOYEES. BUT WORKDAY IS A HUGE INITIATIVE.

WE'LL FIND MORE TIME TO TALK ABOUT THAT.

BUT THERE'LL BE MORE COMMUNICATION COMING OUT ON THAT AND THE TIMELINE AROUND ALL OF IT.

SO. SO WITH THAT, I'LL SAY THANKS TO EACH OF YOU FOR BEING HERE TODAY AND SHARING YOUR PERSPECTIVE AND REPRESENTING NOT ONLY YOUR CAMPUSES, BUT REPRESENTING THE WORK THAT'S GOING ON AT AT ALL THE COLLEGES.

AND CERTAINLY, LENORE. THANK YOU FOR FOR HELPING LEAD TO ACTION 2022 WORK THAT WE'RE DOING. AND SO KEEP ALL OF YOU OUT THERE.

KEEP SENDING YOUR YOUR QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE AROUND ALL OF THIS AROUND ACTION 2022 TO ACTION 2020 ACTION 22 AT DOT EDU.

SO WITH THAT WILL CLOSE AND I HOPE EVERYONE HAS FOUND TODAY'S SESSION INSIGHTFUL THAT YOU LEARNED A FEW THINGS.

I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU'RE DOING TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS AND FOR SUPPORTING EACH OTHER. I ALSO WANT TO SAY A QUICK WORD OF THANKS TO OUR PRODUCTION TEAM AND OUR COMMS TEAM, BECAUSE A LOT OF BEHIND THE SCENES WORK THAT HAS TO MAKE ALL OF THIS HAPPEN.

AND SO I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT THEY DID TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN TODAY.

BUT I ALSO SAY, AS A REMINDER, WE HAVE GRADUATION COMING UP MAY 12TH THROUGH THE 14TH AT THE COLD WAR CENTER IN GARLAND.

I HOPE EVERYONE IS PLANNING TO BE THERE.

IT'S AN AMAZING CELEBRATION OF OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR HARD WORK.

AND SO I WANT TO THANK THE TEAMS THAT ARE WORKING TO PUT THAT TOGETHER AND MAKE THAT HAPPEN, TO HAVE AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND FOR THEIR LOVED ONES.

NOW, I BELIEVE WE STILL NEED SOME VOLUNTEERS FOR THAT.

SO SEVERAL OF YOU HAVE ANSWERED THE CALL THIS WEEK, AND I APPRECIATE THAT.

BUT PLEASE CHECK IN AT SHAREPOINT TO SIGN UP TO TO VOLUNTEER.

SO AGAIN, THANK YOU ALL FOR TAKING TIME TO BE WITH US TODAY AND HAVE A GREAT DAY.
