>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: THANK YOU.

[5. Special Presentation: Dallas College Student Leaders]

WE WILL MOVE ONTO ITEM 5, OUR SPECIAL PRESENTATION ON SOME OF OUR STUDENT LEADERS.

>> SO WE'VE GOT A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT PREPARATIONS TODAY.

WE'RE GOING TO START WITH OUR STUDENTS THAT FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS, WE HAVE TAKEN STUDENTS TO THE NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT AS PART OF THE ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEES.

FOR 15 YEARS, I SAID THIS IS MY FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR TO STAND AT THE PODIUM.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE VIEW LOOKED LIKE HERE BUT I APPRECIATE BEING HERE.

THIS YEAR WE SELECTED THREE OUTSTANDING AMAZING STUDENTS I WANT TO INTRODUCE TO YOU.

OF YOU CAN HEAR FROM THEM.

WITH THE CAVEAT THEY DID NOT GO WITH US TO THE NATIONAL LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT.

THEY WERE CHOSEN.

BECAUSE OF THE CHANGING COVID PROTOCOLS GOING ON IN D.C., THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO GO.

HOWEVER, I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND TIME WITH THEM.

THEY ARE COMMITTED TO THINGS WE'RE DOING.

THERE'S A CONGRESSIONAL TOWN HALL THAT THEY'RE GOING TO PARTICIPATE IN.

SMALL GROUP MEETING.

WE'VE GOT VIRTUAL MEETINGS WE'RE GOING TO DO WITH OUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS WE WEREN'T ABLE TO MEET WITH.

WE'RE GOING TO PARTICIPATE AND BE THE VOICE AND FACE OF DALLAS COLLEGE ON BEHALF OF OUR STUDENTS.

WITH TO COME UP AND TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEMSELVES.

SO FIRST, MADELEINE COME UP AND NICOLE AND RAHEL WILL TELL YOU ABOUT THEMSELVES.

GO AHEAD AND INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND AND ABOUT YOURSELF.

(SPE MICROPHONE)

>> GOOD AFTERNOON, I'M FROM PERU.

I AM A DALLAS PROMISE STUDENT.

I ATTEND THE NORTHLAKE CAMPUS.

I'M PLANNING ON MAJORING IN PSYCHOLOGY.

TO BE FRANK, DALLAS COLLEGE WAS NEVER AN OPTION IN MY COLLEGE LIST.

WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL, I WANTED TO ATTEND A FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY, BUT BECAUSE OF ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS, I ENDED UP ENROLLING AT DALLAS COLLEGE TO BEGIN MY EDUCATION.

AFTE SEMESTERS, I GOT TO SAY THAT DALLAS COLLEGE HAS TREMENDOUSLY CHANGED MY LIFE.

WHEN I STARTED ATTENDING NORTHLAKE, I REALIZED I WASN'T THE ONLY STUDENT DEPENDING ON FINANCIAL AID OR LOANS.

SEEING STUDENTS IN THE SIMILAR POSITION LIKE MINE, MADE ME REALIZE THAT I AM PROVIDED WITH ALL THE RESOURCES I NEED TO BE ACADEMICALLY SUCCESSFUL.

ADDI ACTIVITIES THAT THEY PLACE IN THE STUDENT LIFE CENTER AT NORTHLAKE ALLOWED ME TO DISCOVER PSIBETA, WHICH IS A CLUB I'M INVOLVED IN AND GIVE OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN ABOUT PSYCHOLOGY WITH MULTIPLE PEOPLE.

[00:05:04]

WITH COMPLETELY CONFIDENT, I CAN ACHIEVE A HIGHER EDUCATION AND GET A SUCCESSFUL CAREER, EVEN IF IT DID NOT BEGIN AT A FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY.

I'M CONTENT TO BE HERE AND TO REPRESENT THE STUDENTS OF DALLAS COLLEGE, AND TO BE THE VOICE THEY NEED IN ORDER TO MAKE DALLAS COLLEGE A BETTER INSTITUTION.

THANK YOU.

(APPLAUSE)

>> GOOD AFTERNOON, MADAM CHAIR, TRUSTEES, CHANCELLOR LONON AND OTHER GUESTS.

MY NAME IS NICOLE CAMARILLO IN MY FINAL SEMESTER WITH DALLAS COLLEGE AT THE NORTHLAKE CAMPUS.

I HAVE BEEN STUDYING FOR MY MANAGEMENT DEGREE.

WHEN IN 2005, COLLEGE WAS NOT AN OPTION.

SO I -- SORRY.

I JOINED THE MILITARY, AND I HAVE BEEN SERVING FOR THE LAST 16 YEARS IN THE MARINE CORPS.

(APPLAUSE)

>> PUBLIC SPEAKING IS NOT MY STRONG SUIT.

I APOLOGIZE.

I HA IN BEING A LEARNER.

AND I DIDN'T THINK THAT COLLEGE WAS GOING TO BE IN THE CARDS FOR ME.

THEN, AS AN EMPLOYEE OF DALLAS COLLEGE, WHEN IT WAS STILL BROKEN DOWN, I WORKED AT BROOKHAVEN.

(LAUGHTER)

>> WE UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN.

>> WE UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU MEANT.

>> ONE OF MY MENTORS, GEORGIA ALVAREZ, SUGGESTED THAT I ATTEND THE SUPERVISOR CERTIFICATE OF FAST TRACK MANAGEMENT.

I TOOK HER ADVICE AND HIT THE GROUND RUNNING.

I HAVE BEEN SO FAR BLESSED TO ATTEND DALLAS COLLEGE.

I AM A MEMBER OF PHI BETA KAPPA.

ACTING AS THE VICE PRESIDENT OF SCHOLARSHIP THIS YEAR, HAS BEEN AN EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE, AND WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH MANY OF OUR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS, OUR ADMINISTRATOR AND WE HELPED CREATE A BETTER SAFETY PROGRAM, BECAUSE WE REALIZED THERE WAS A LACK.

ONCE WE ALL RETURNED ON CAMPUS.

SO B COLLEGE HAS HELPED ME GET RID OF SOME OF THE NEGATIVE VOICES THAT WERE CONSTANTLY TELLING ME THAT I COULDN'T DO IT.

SO I NOW HAVE ALMOST ACHIEVED MY ASSOCIATION'S DEGREE.

AND I WILL BE MOVING ONTO HOPEFULLY TCU OR SMU THIS NEXT FALL SEMESTER.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE -- I THINK...

(LAUGHTER) (INDISCERNIBLE)

>> HONESTLY, I'M EXCITED THAT I GET TO MOVE ON AND PART OF THAT EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN DALLAS COLLEGE, AND MY WONDERFUL PROFESSORS AND THE FACULTY AND STAFF THAT I'VE BEEN FORTUNATE TO WORK WITH AND FALL UNDER AS A STUDENT.

SO I APPRECIATE THIS OPPORTUNITY.

AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

(APPLAUSE)

>> I JUS VETERANS HAVE EXCELLENT BENEFITS WHEN YOU'RE READY TO BUY A HOME.

(LAUGHTER)

>> ALSO, LET IT BE KNOWN THAT SHE WAS AN EARLY RESIDENT OF DUNCAN MILL, TEXAS.

(LAUGHTER)

>> GOOD AFTERNOON.

MY NAME IS ROHELLE TUSKI.

THIS IS MY LAST AND FINAL YEAR WITH DALLAS COLLEGE.

I PLAN ON PURSUING MY BACHELOR'S IN NURSING.

AND THEN EVENTUALLY GOING TO MED SCHOOL TO BECOME A DERMATOLOGIST.

(CHUCKLING)

>> RIGHT NOW, IT LOOKS LIKE I'M HEADING TOWARDS TEXAS WOMEN'S UNIVERSITY.

A BACKGROUND ABOUT MYSELF, I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN A COUNTRY IN EAST AFRICA.

DUE TO MANY ISSUES AND WANTING TO REUNITE WITH MY FATHER, MY MOTHER, BROTHER AND I HAD TO ILLEGALLY LEAVE AND AFTER THE HARD AND LONG JOURNEY, MOSTLY ON FOOT, WE

[00:10:01]

REACHED SUDAN, AND I WAS THERE FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS UNTIL MY PAPERS WERE READY FOR ME TO COME HERE.

ONCE IMMEDIATELY ENROLLED ME IN SCHOOL.

PRIOR TO THIS, I DIDN'T HAVE AN EDUCATION OUTSIDE OF LIKE MAYBE PRE-K.

AND BEING LIKE NOT KNOWING THE LANGUAGE AND NOT HAVING THE CULTURE AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT WAS DIFFICULT.

BUT ONCE I HIT THE GROUND RUNNING, I REALIZED THAT I WAS ACTUALLY GOOD AT SCHOOL, SO, YEAH.

HERE WE ARE.

I'M GETTING MY ASSOCIATES IN SCIENCE IN MAY.

(APPLAUSE)

>> IF YOU GUYS CAN COME UP, I WANT TO GET A PHOTO WITH THE BOARD.

DO YOU WANT TO CALL IT A DAY? IT DOESN'T GET BETTER THAN THAT.

(LAUGHTER)

>> WE DON'T WANT TO MESS IT UP.

>> WE WILL GET TO THESE FOLKS.

OUR STUDENT SUCCESS COACHES WE'LL RECOGNIZE.

IF WE CAN HAVE OUR THREE COME UP AND GET A QUICK PHOTO BEFORE THEY HAVE TO LEAVE.

IF YOU GUYS COULD COME AROUND.

(CHITCHAT) (APPLAUSE)

>> GREAT STORIES.

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: NOW WE WILL MOVE ONTO

[6. Chancellor and Board Announcements]

CHANCELLOR AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS.

AND WE WILL HAVE ANNO CHANCELLOR LONON.

>> WELL, I MAY TAKE LONGER THAN NORMAL THIS MONTH.

IT'S OBVIOUSLY A TREMENDOUS HONOR TO BE SITTING HERE AND SITTING IN THIS CHAIR.

MY FIRST BOARD MEETING WITH DCCCD WAS DECEMBER 2005 WHEN I WAS HIRED HERE.

THIS IS ACTUALLY THE TIE I WORE.

(APPLAUSE) (LAUGHTER)

>> IT'S A LITTLE WIDER THAN THE KIDS WEAR TODAY, AND I'M A LITTLE WIDER THAN I WAS BACK THEN, TOO.

(LAUGHTER)

>> WIDER OR WHITER DID YOU SAY?

>> WIDER.

(LAUGHTER)

>> YOU'RE SO BAD.

>> NO I DIDN'T HEAR HIM.

>> BUT AT THAT TIME, I HAD NO IDEA THE IMPACT THAT THIS PLACE WOULD HAVE ON ME, MY LIFE, MY FAMILY.

THANKS TO OUR MISSION, OUR EMPLOYEES, AND OUR STUDENTS, OUR AMAZING STUDENTS.

BUT TO THE IMPACT THAT THIS INSTITUTION HAS ON INDIVIDUAL LIVES AND ON THE COMMUNITY.

OVER I'VE MET SUCH AMAZING STUDENTS LIKE THE ONES WE JUST HEARD FROM THAT HAVE THESE INCREDIBLE STORIES OF COMMITMENT AND PERSEVERANCE, THAT A FEW OF US CAN IMAGINE, I THINK.

AND HERE AND WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO.

AND WE'V LEADERS IN THE CHANCELLOR ROLE BEFORE ME.

I APPRECIATE THAT I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET AND INTERACT AND LEARN WITH ALL SEVEN OF THEM.

AND CERTAINLY WORKED WITH THE PAST THREE.

AND BOARD FOR YOUR FAITH AND YOUR CONFIDENCE IN ME.

YOU KNOW, WE DON'T ALWAYS HAVE, NOR SHOULD WE I GUESS, UNANIMOUS VOTES AROUND THIS HORSESHOE.

AND SO I RECOGNIZE THE MAGNITUDE OF YOUR UNANIMOUS SUPPORT SELECTING ME FOR THIS ROLE, AND I TAKE THAT SERIOUSLY.

I'M OVERWHELMED BY THE CALLS AND THE TEXTS THAT I'VE RECEIVED ALL DAY, THE NOTES OF CONGRATULATION THAT STARTED VERY EARLY THIS MORNING.

I APPRECIATE COMMISSIONER PRICE TAKING THE TIME TO COME DOWN HERE.

THAT'S AN UNEXPECTED SURPRISE.

I APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT.

I KN PERIOD CAN BE SHORT.

I RECOGNIZE THAT.

I'LL DO MY BEST TO MAKE YOU ALL PROUD AND MAKE OUR FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY

[00:15:02]

PROUD AS WELL.

WE H AHEAD, AND I RECOGNIZE THAT.

BUT I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH EACH ONE OF YOU.

AND THE ENTIRE DALLAS COLLEGE TEAM TO IMPLEMENT MANY OF THE THINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT THIS MORNING OVER A LONG-TERM PERIOD AS WE BUILD FORWARD DALLAS COLLEGE 2030.

SO W HUMBLED AND I THANK YOU.

AND SO NOW WE CAN GET TO THE REAL WORK THAT WE HAVE AHEAD AND WE'VE GOT AMAZING FOLKS STANDING AROUND THAT I WANT TO RECOGNIZE.

SO O TALKED ABOUT THIS MORNING WAS THE -- AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY, THE SIGNIFICANT INVESTMENT THAT WE HAVE MADE OUT OF SOME OF THE EFFICIENCIES COMING FROM THE CONSOLIDATION THAT WE'VE REINVESTED BACK INTO STUDENT SERVICES.

SO M STANDING AROUND THE ROOM ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THAT.

SO DR. JOSEPH CAN COME UP AND SHOW -- GIVE US MORE BACKGROUND AND DETAIL.

BUT THE DUAL CREDIT SUCCESS COACH DIVISION, UNDER STUDENT SUCCESS HAS RECENTLY BEEN NAMED THE RECIPIENT OF THE 2022 TEXAS ACADEMY ADVISING NETWORK REMARKABLE ADVISING INITIATIVE AWARD.

AGAIN, I THINK IT SPEAKS TO WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF MAKING SURE WE'VE GOT FOLKS THAT ARE THERE TO ASSIST STUDENTS.

SO DR. JOSEPH, PLEASE GIVE US MORE DETAIL AND INTRODUCE THEM.

>> I'M DELIGHT TODAY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE WITH YOU TODAY THE RESULTS OF THIS BOARD'S VISION AND COMMITMENT TO REINVEST IN STUDENT SUCCESS.

THES SEE OVER HERE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP ARE ABC KAREN STILLS, DEAN PIPKINS, DEAN MCCARTHY, AND MIESHA COLEMAN, ALL THE INDIVIDUALS THAT WORK HARD TO ENSURE THAT THEY SUPPORT OUR DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS.

WE HAVE NOT HAD THE SUPPORT IN THE PAST.

THEY COOPERATE.

THEY WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITH OUR TEAM TO MAKE SURE STUDENTS ARE SUCCESSFUL.

THE FACT THEY'RE RECOGNIZED SO QUICKLY BECAUSE THIS TEAM CAME TOGETHER LAST FALL, THESE INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN HIRED SINCE THEN HAVE BEEN RECEIVING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

HAVE DONE A LOT OF VERY INTENTIONAL INTERVENTIONS FOR OUR STUD RECOGNITION MEANS THE WORLD TO ME, TO THEM, TO OUR STUDENTS.

SO D LIKE TO INTRODUCE YOUR TEAM AND SAY A COUPLE OF WORDS ABOUT THE WORK THAT I KNOW THAT YOU'VE LED PASSIONATELY AND THERE'S NO COMPROMISE IN TERMS OF QUALITY.

SO PLEASE.

>> WELL, I LEARN FROM THE BEST WITH NO COMPROMISE.

(LAUGHTER)

>> FROM DR. JOSEPH.

SO LET ME JUST NOT BELABOR, BECAUSE I WANT THE TIME AND THE CREDIT TO BE ON THE TEAM THAT IS ON THE FRONT LINE DOING THIS WORK.

THEY KNOW HOW INCREDIBLY PROUD I AM OF EACH ONE OF THEM.

IT'S VERY PERSONAL.

THIS IS NOT MY FIRST TIME SEEING ANY OF THESE FOLKS.

WE'VE TAKEN THE TIME TO REALLY BUILD COMMUNITY AS A TEAM.

I THINK THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN EXPECTATIONS AND GETTING THE RESULTS WE WANT, GETTING THAT LEVEL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THAT LEVEL OF ACCOUNTABILITY THAT WE WANT.

SO J JUST A TIP OF THE ICEBERG.

I'M SO PROUD.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I'M PROUD OF THE IMPACT THAT YOU'RE MAKING ON OUR STUDENTS.

AND ON OUR COMMUNITY.

BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT, SO CONGRATULATIONS.

(APPLAUSE)

>> SO YEAH, COME DOWN AND LET'S GET A PHOTO.

THE HOW DO

[00:20:27]

YOU WANT TO ARRANGE THIS? (CHITCHAT) (APPLAUSE) (CHITCHAT)

>> CHANCELLOR LONON: SO I WANT US TO CELEBRATE MORE AND RECOGNIZE FOLKS MORE, SO WE GOT A COUPLE OF MORE OF THOSE TO DO.

AND THAT STARTS WITH THIS BOARD ACTUALLY.

SO CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOARD BEING NAMED A RECIPIENT TO THE 2022 OUTSTANDING DIRECTORS AWARD BY THE "DALLAS BUSINESS JOURNAL".

(APPLAUSE)

>> CHANCELLOR LONON: THIS AWARD RECOGNIZES LEADERS WHO GUIDED INSTITUTIONS THROUGH A SUCCESSFUL, SIGNIFICANT CHANGE.

(LAUGHTER)

>> CHANCELLOR LONON: SOUNDS FAMILIAR.

SO IT'S NICE TO HAVE EXTERNAL VALIDATION OF THE WORK THAT YOU ALL AND WE ALL AS AN INSTITUTION HAVE UNDERTAKEN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

THERE'S RECOGNITION CEREMONY.

PEARL IS WORK TO GO MAKE SURE THAT'S ON YOUR CALENDARS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO EACH ONE OF YOU.

THEN LITTLE BIT ABOUT A RECENT VISIT WE HAD FROM THE SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION OF COLLEGES AND SCHOOLS COMMISSION ON COLLEGES.

THEY SENT A TEAM TO REVIEW OUR CONSOLIDATION OF THE DALLAS COLLEGE LAST YEAR AS YOU RECALL.

WE CAME THROUGH THAT.

THE REPORT HAD NO FINDINGS RELATED TO OUR CONSOLIDATION, WHICH IS A HUGE DEAL THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WITH SUCH A HUGE SHIFT, A HUGE CONSOLIDATION OF THIS MAGNITUDE.

I'M PLEASED TO TELL YOU WE HAD A REPEAT OF THAT, BECAUSE THEY SENT A TEAM TO REVIEW OUR LEVEL CHANGE TO BE A FOUR BACHELOR'S-DEGREE GRANTING INSTITUTION.

THEY CAME AND SPENT A FEW DAYS WITH US.

THE AND WITH SOME OF OUR FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS.

[00:25:02]

SO D UP FOR A MINUTE.

GO AHEAD, ROB, YOU CAN COME OUT OF THE CORNER THERE.

(LAUGHTER)

>> CHANCELLOR LONON: AND BECAUSE THEY REALLY LED THIS PROCESS.

AND AGAIN, IT IS A HUGE UNDERTAKING TO GO THROUGH THIS.

BUT I THINK IT SAYS A GREAT DEAL THAT WE'VE HAD TWO HUGE EXTERNAL REVIEWS TO VALIDATE WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING, AGAIN, WITH NO FINDINGS.

THAT'S UNHEARD OF TO NOT HAVE FINDINGS.

THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN AROUND AND RECALL THE OLD STRUCTURE, OFTENTIMES THERE WOULD BE A FINDING OR TWO HERE OR THERE AT THE PREVIOUS SEVEN COLLEGES.

SO I CONGRATULATIONS AND APPRECIATION TO BOTH OF YOU FOR ALL YOU DID TO HELP LEAD THAT TEAM.

THE I KNOW THERE'S MANY OTHER PEOPLE INVOLVED.

SO WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE BUT ALSO JUST SAY A COUPLE OF WORDS, ROB.

JUST KIND OF WHAT THEY LOOKED AT.

AND DANIELLE, WHAT THIS MEANS NOW THAT WE CAN EXPEDITE A LITTLE BIT.

>> GO AHEAD.

>> WANT ME TO START? (LAUGHTER)

>> W NOW-CHANCELLOR LONON.

AND THANK YOU, BOARD.

REAL SAY IS IS THANK YOU AGAIN FOR REALLY YOUR SUPPORT AND YOUR CONFIDENCE IN, YOU KNOW, OUR SCHOOL OF EDUCATION.

YOU REALLY TOOK A RISK, DR. MAY AND DR. LONON IN OUR LEADERSHIP TOOK A RISK TO BE THE FIRST TO DO SOMETHING IN OUR STATE TO ADDRESS A CRITICAL NEED IN OUR COMMUNITY.

AND WAS WAS A VALIDATION.

I THINK YOU HEARD ME TALK A LITTLE BIT TO YOU ALL WHEN I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO PRESENT IN THE FALL TO SAY WHAT THIS REALLY WAS WAS THAT WE GREW UP AND BECAME A -- HAD TO GROW UP AND BECOME A BACCALAUREATE INSTITUTION, AMER BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM.

THE DR. LONON ALLUDED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS WHEN HE REFERENCED THIS.

BUT REAL CELEBRATION OF NOT ONLY, YOU KNOW, OUR SCHOOL, BUT REALLY WANT TO SHOUT-OUT OUR FACULTY.

THEY WERE PRESENTATION AS WERE OUR STUDENTS.

SO, YOU KNOW, I KNOW THERE'S SOME FACULTY LEADERS HERE, SO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GET THAT MESSAGE.

(APPLAUSE)

>> ABSOLUTELY.

I THINK THIS VISIT AND THE VALIDATION OF THIS WORK TO BECOME A BACHELOR'S-DEGREE AWARDING INSTITUTION IS A TESTAMENT OF YOUR LEADERSHIP AND CERTAINLY ROB'S AND THE TEAM THAT HE'S BUILT AS WELL.

HE'S ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.

THE FACULTY WERE CRITICAL IN US GETT INCREDIBLE OUTCOME THAT WE DID WITH HAVING NO RECOMMENDATIONS.

AND THEN, TO, WHAT JUSTIN WAS REFERENCING.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A VISIT WITH NO RECOMMENDATIONS? IT M ACCELERATE THAT FINAL BOARD REVIEW TO JUNE INSTEAD OF DECEMBER.

SO WE ARE ALREADY ON THE DOCKET.

WE EXPECT THAT THEY WILL REVIEW THE COMMITTEE'S REPORT.

WE'RE EXPECTING TO HAVE FULL AUTHORIZATION FOR LEVEL 2 STATUS FOR DALLAS COLLEGE IN JUNE.

WHICH MEANS WE CAN THEN PROCEED WITH OUR NEXT BACHELOR'S PROGRAM AND THE NEXT AND THE NEXT.

SO W THAT BY SIX FULL MONTHS.

SO REALLY, REALLY INCREDIBLE OUTCOME.

AND AGAIN, A TESTAMENT TO A LOT OF FOLKS.

REALLY EXCELLENT WORK.

ROB AND I, ARE UP HERE.

BUT WE REPRESENT A LOT OF FOLKS THAT DID EXCELLENT WORK TO GET THIS OUTCOME FOR US.

THANK YOU.

(APPLAUSE)

>> CHANCELLOR LONON: I WANT TO MENTION A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS.

I APPRECIATE THE THOUGHTFULNESS AND THE DIALOGUE THE BOARD HAD THIS MORNING AROUND THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AND THE FRAMEWORK AND THE GOALS AND METRICS AND KPIS AROUND THAT.

THIS WILL BE THE ROAD MAP FOR DALLAS COLLEGE 2030 AND WHERE WE WANT TO BE AS AN INSTITUTION BY THEN AND SOME OF OUR LONG-RANGE GOALS.

ADDI MENTION THAT WE'RE LAUNCHING WHAT WE'RE CALLING ACTION 2022.

AND THAT'S REALLY DESIGNED TO ADDRESS SOME OF THOSE SHORT-TERM THINGS.

SOME OF THE THINGS WE HEARD THROUGH OUR LISTENING TOURS AND THE SMALL GROUP SESSIONS I'VE DONE ON CAMPUSES.

AND SOME OF THE MEETINGS THAT I'VE HAD WITH STUDENTS AND OTHERS, SOME OF THOSE CHALLENGES, SOME OF THE GAPS THAT EXIST THROUGH THE CONSOLIDATION.

SO W OUR PRESIDENTS REALLY TO HELP AND ASSIST WITH THAT, ALONG WITH THE FUNCTIONAL LEADS, DR. JOSEPH AND DR. WILKINS AND

[00:30:04]

DR. FLOYD.

AND THE OPERATIONS SIDE OF THE HOUSE AS WELL.

WE K WORK TO DO, AND SO THIS WILL BE OUR RAPID RESPONSE IN A WAY OF DOING THAT.

WE ORGANIZED WHAT WE FOUND THUS FAR IN KIND OF THREE CATEGORIES.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTS, CULTURE, AND COMMUNICATION.

THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS UNDERNEATH EACH OF THOSE.

I MENTIONED THAT BECAUSE YOU'LL BE HEARING MORE ABOUT THOSE AND CERTAINLY EMPLOYEES WILL BE HEARING MORE ABOUT THAT IN THE NEXT DAY OR SO.

THEN A NOTE AND WORD ABOUT WHAT WE'RE ALL WATCHING ON THE NEWS, WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE UKRAINE.

WE HAVE REACHED OUT TO STUDENTS THAT MAY BE FROM UKRAINE.

AND I PROVIDED SERVICES WHEN WE CAN.

THE WE DIRECTED THEM TO OTHER SOCIAL SERVICES.

BECAUSE WE KNOW WHAT A HUMAN IMPACT THIS HAS ON THEM.

EVEN IF THEY'RE HERE.

THEY'VE GOT FAMILIES THAT ARE STILL THERE.

AND SO WE'RE DOING ALL WE CAN TO HELP THEM NAVIGATE EVERYTHING THAT THEY'RE HAVING TO NAVIGATE.

SO WITH THAT, MADAM CHAIR, THAT CONCLUDES MY REMARKS.

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: THANK YOU, DR. LONON FOR OUR COMMENTS.

I FEEL A CELEBRATION FOR THE MANY SUCCESSES WE'VE HAD.

THANK YOU FOR THAT.

WE'R NOT ONLY TO YOUR FIRST BOARD MEETING AS CHANCELLOR, BUT ALSO DAY ONE AS CHANCELLOR.

>> CHANCELLOR LONON: GO BIG OR GO HOME.

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: TO MY FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS, I'M HAPPY AND EXCITED WE'LL BE RECEIVING THE DBJ AWARD LATER THIS MONTH.

I HOPE MANY OF YOU COULD ATTEND THE CEREMONY.

ALSO YOU TO GEORGIAN MOSS FOR COORDINATING THE SUSTAINABILITY TOWN HALL LAST WEEK.

IT WAS SET UP TO BE VIRTUAL.

IT WAS A DAY THAT CLASSES WERE CANCELLED, THAT CAMPUS WAS SHUT DOWN.

SO WE WERE ABLE TO STILL CAPTURE A GOOD AMOUNT OF PEOPLE VIRTUALLY FOR THAT TOWN HALL.

AND I WANTED TO EXTEND THE INVITATION TO JOIN US NEXT TUESDAY FOR A PANEL THAT I WILL BE HOSTING FOR INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY AT EASTVILLE CAMPUS.

YOU CAN STOP BY OR INVITE STUDENTS TO ATTEND.

THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

I'D OUR RETIREES, WHO HAVE DONE INCREDIBLE WORK FOR DALLAS COLLEGE FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS.

SO YOU KNOW WE WILL NOT SEE YOU UNTIL AFTER SPRING BREAK.

I WANTED TO SAY ENJOY YOUR TIME WELL EARNED OFF.

AND WE'LL SEE YOU BACK AFTER SPRING BREAK.

ANY TRUSTEES HAVE ANY COMMENTS OR ANNOUNCEMENTS? TRUSTEE FLORES.

>> I ATTENDED THE CONFERENCE IN FORT WORTH, THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF CHICANOS IN HIGHER EDUCATION.

CHICANO IS REALLY SOMEONE WHO GROWS UP IN THE UNITED STATES WITH MEXICAN HERITAGE.

SINCE WE HAVE AN INFLUX FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES, ANYONE WITH HISPANIC HERITAGE AND GROWS UP HERE, I SEE THEM AS A CHICANO.

IN 1 EXECUTIVE SECRETARY TO THE CONSULTANT TO THE CHANCELLOR HERE WHAT WAS THEN DCCCCD.

I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND MY FIRST CONFERENCE IN CORPUS.

SEEING SO MANY CHICANO LATINO PROFESSIONALS WITH THEIR DEGREES, DOCTORATES, BACHELORS AROUND, LEADING PANELS AND KEY NOTE SPEAKERS, INSPIRED ME.

THAT INSPIRED ME TO GO BACK AND GET MY BACHELOR'S AGREE BECAUSE I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH A GATHERING BEFORE.

AND TO DO IT, I COULD DO IT.

EVEN THOUGH I WAS A SINGLE MOTHER WITH CHILDREN, ET CETERA, I WAS ABLE TO GO BACK AND THANKFULLY IN APPROXIMATE 1994 GRADUATE WITH MY BACHELORS.

I SP YOUNGER PROFESSIONALS FROM DALLAS COLLEGE THAT WERE THERE AND ASKED THEM WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE CONFERENCE? ? OH, I LOVE IT! THEY WOULD TALK SO EXCITED, SO I THINK THEY HAD THE SAME TYPE OF AWAKENING THAT I DID WHEN I WENT TO MY FIRST ONE.

THANKFULLY, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, THERE WAS A LARGE CONTINGENT OF DALLAS COLLEGE EMPLOYEES WHO ATTENDED.

HOPEFULLY, THAT CAN CONTINUE BECAUSE IT IS AN IMPORTANT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE FOR OUR EMPLOYEES AND THEY ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN -- LEARN ABOUT STRATEGIES TO COME BACK AND DO WHAT THEY DO EVEN BETTER.

SO HOPEFULLY, WE WILL HAVE THESE TYPES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR EVERYBODY, BECAUSE THAT IS NOT JUST FOR CHICANO.

IT'S FOR EVERYBODY WHO NEEDS TO SERVE THE LATINO STUDENT IN OUR COLLEGES.

I TH AMERICAN PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATION AND WOMEN'S, ET CETERA.

SO WE NEED TO MAKE MORE OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE TO

[00:35:01]

MORE OF OUR EMPLOYEES RATHER THAN JUST AN ELITE FEW.

SO J THAT WITH YOU ALL.

AND AGAIN, SO EXCITED TO SEE SO MANY OF OUR STAFF THERE.

THE.

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: ANY OTHER TRUSTEES HAVE COMMENTS, ANNOUNCEMENTS? OKAY.

SO WE WILL MOVE ONTO ITEM 7, CONSENT AGENDA.

DO I HAVE MOTION FOR CONSENT AGENDA, ITEM 7.1-7.1-F.

>> SO MOVED.

>> SECOND.

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: MOVED AND SECONDED.

DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS FROM THE BOARD? OKAY THIS, ALL THOSE IN FAVOR PLEASE SAY AYE.

(A CHORUS OF AYES)

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: ALL THOSE OPPOSED? ANY ABSTENTIONS? MOTION PASSES.

WITH UNANIMOUS VOTE.

ITEM FOR INDIVIDUAL AGENDA ITEM 8.1 THROUGH 8.2?

>> SO MOVED.

>> SECOND.

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: OKAY.

MOTION BY VICE CHAIR RITTER.

SECOND BY TRUSTEE FLOYD.

DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS BY THE BOARD? OKAY.

ALL THOSE IN FAVOR? (A CHORUS OF AYES)

>> CHAIRWOMAN LIRA BRAVO: ALL THOSE OPPOSED? ANY ABSTENTIONS? MOTION PASSES WITH A UNANIMOUS VOTE.

GREAT.

WE'LL MOVE ONTO ITEM 9, DISCUSSION OR COMMENTS ON ANY OF THE INFORMATIVE REPORTS UNDER ITEM 9? NO COMMENTS, GREAT.

WE DO NOT HAVE AN EXECUTIVE SESSION PLANNED FOR THIS COMMITTEE MEETING, SO WITH THAT, IT IS 4:54 P.M.

THE REGULAR BOARD MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF DALLAS COLLEGE IS NOW ADJOURNED.

THANK YOU,

[7. Consent Agenda]

EVERYONE FOR JOINING US.
