VIA VIDEOCONFERENCE WITH SOME MEMBERS OF THE BOARD GATHERED IN A LOCATION AND OTHERS ATTENDING VIRTUALLY.

I HAVE BEEN AN EMPLOYEE HERE AS A POLICE OFFICER FOR EIGHT YEARS.

IN THOSE EIGHT YEARS, I HAVE BEEN AN OFFICER WHOSE DIRT WAS CAMPUS PATROL AND CIRCUIT.

ALONG WITH EVIDENCE SERVICES.

NOW I AM STARTING AT VALLEY CAMPUS.

FOR AT LEAST FOUR TO YEARS, WE HAVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT A STUDY THAT WOULD

MAKE US COMPETITIVE WITHIN OUR JOB MARKET.

UNFORTUNATELY, THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THAT OUR COMMANDS HAVE HAD TO COME UP WITH INVENTIVE WAYS TO THAT FILLED THE HOLES OF THOSE WHO HAVE LEFT US AND BUILD BARRIERS OF NEED THAT WERE NOT PREVIOUSLY THERE.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED IS THAT WE HAVE LOWERED OUR ENTRY REQUIREMENTS TO JOIN OUR POLICE FORCE AND STILT STRUGGLE TO GET THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATES THROUGH THE DOORS.

I KNOW I'M PART OF A TEAM.

WE ARE SINGLES NEW THAT HAPPENED WITH US FOR LESS THAN TWO YEARS.

LEAVE US FOR BETTER OPPORTUNITIES, RECEIVING SIX TO 10,000 OTHER WAGE INCREASES IN THE PROCESS.

THE NEXT GROUP THAT IS LIVING US ARE THOSE OFFICERS BETWEEN THREE TO EIGHT YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

BUT DUE TO THE LACK OF PATROL OFFICERS, THIS WILL BE NEAR IMPOSSIBLE.

THEY DON'T MIND GOING TO THE OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND STARTING OVER BECAUSE THEY WILL BE RECEIVING A HIGHER STARTING PAY AND A WHOLE COMPENSATION PACKAGE THAT INCENTIVIZES THEIR HARD WORK IN YEARS, PRIOR, EVEN IF IT WAS WITH ANOTHER AGENCY.

SO ANOTHER STUDY TO BE CONDUCTED.

T EXODUS WILL COME DUE TO THE TIMEFRAME WITH THE DISTRICT WIDE SURVEY.

WE ARE TIRED OF BEING UNDER COMPENSATED.

LOYALTY TO OUR COMMUNITY AND EACH OTHER, INE NEED TO START TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES AT HOME.

THOSE OFFICERS REMAINING WILL STRUGGLE TO MAIN THE SAFETY OF THE CAMPUS AND THOSE WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR.

OUR FAILURE TO ACT OR WILL THE BOARD STAND IDLY BY AND SEE THAT SAFETY AND SECURITY OF THIS NEWLY ACCREDITED HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION FALL BY THE WAYSIDE? I HAVE TWO SUGGESTIONS.

FIRST IS 12% INCREASE THAT ALL UNIFORMED POLICE OFFICERS.

MY SECONDS ADJUSTMENT IS IT IS A LITTLE BIT MORE TEMPORARY AS WELL.

I THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW COMPENSATION FUND FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT OF 900 FOR EVERY UNIFORMED POLICE OFFICER CURRENTLY WORKING IN DALLAS COLLEGE.

I CONTINUE TO PROVIDE OUR COMMUNITY WITH US SECURITY -- WITH THE SECURITY AND SAFETY WE HAVE COME TO EXPECT.

BECAUSE IF IT IS NOT, IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAP IT IS ONE THAT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

WE ARE GLAD TO BE HERE AND LOOK FORWARD TO T ADDITIONAL MEETINGS AS WE ENTER INTO THE UPCOMING YEAR.

I WANT TO AS IT IS AUGUST, WE WILL BE DEALING WITH OUR HEARINGS AND OTHER THINGS AS WE START THE NEW YEAR.

AND CLASSES WILL BEGIN HERE VERY -- WE WILL BE STARTING CLASSES AND COMING BACK.

BUT ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 20TH, AS PART OF OUR RETURN WEEK, WE WILL BE HAVING OUR UPCOMING CONFERENCE DAY WHICH WILL BE A COMBINATION OF BOTH IN PERSON AND VIRTUAL AS WE GET TOGETHER.

WHERE WE WILL SHARE IDEAS, REALLY, LISTEN TO THE GREAT SPEAKERS AND BRING PROBABLY MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER, TO RECONNECT WITH COLLEAGUES AND OTHERS AFTER 18 MONTHS OF BEING REMOTE.

OUR STUDENTS HAVE NOT ATTENDED CLASSES IN PRISON FOR MORE THAN A YEAR.

THIS WILL BE CHANGING A BIT THIS FALL.

AND I BELIEVE OUR FOLKS RESIDENT -- REGISTRATION WILL BE CHANGING.

ABOUT 50/50 AS WE ENTERED THE FALL SEMESTER.

SO FOR OUR FRIDAY, AUGUST 20TH, IT WILL BE AT THE REGENCY HERE IN DALLAS.

AND I WANT TO INVITE THE BOARD TO BE A PART OF THAT.

HE HAS SERVED AS A TEN-YEAR FACULTY MEMBER, DEAN AND NATIONAL PATHWAYS COACH.

HE EARNED A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY AND MASTERS DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK FROM BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY.

A LEADERSHIP AND POLICY STUDIES FROM ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY.

DR. GONZALEZ BRINGS A REPUTATION AS AN INCLUSIVE FORWARD THINKING LEADER, WORKS TO ADVANCED THE COMMUNITY HE SERVES.

HIS ADVOCACY FOR FIRST GENERATION L STUDENTS AND STUDENTS OF COLOR WILL BE OF TREMENDOUS ASSET TO THEIR INSTITUTION.

AND I BELIEVE THAT MUCH OF YOU COMMUNITY WILL CONNE WITH THESE ENERGY AND VISION.

AND, YOU KNOW, ALL MY LIFE I HAVE BEEN LEADING TOWARDS THIS POINT I THINK THAT BEING A FIRST GENERATION COLLEGE STUDENT, FIGURING OUT WHAT IT MEANS TO SURVIVE ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS AND THEN TAKING EVER SINCE I WAS A STUDENT, HOW DO WE DO THIS BETTER? HOW DO WE MAKE THIS FOR STUDENTS? AND SO I DID IT AS A STUDENT ACTIVIST.

I DID IT AS A GRADUATE STUDENT.

AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO THINK ABOUT THIS AS A FACULTY MEMBER, CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON LATINO STUDENTS AND OTHER STUDENTS OF COLOR AS A FACULTY MEMBER AS AN ADMINISTRATOR AND AS A CONSULTANT.

SO I HOPE I CAN USE THOSE TOOLS THAT I HAVE GARNERED OVER THE YEARS AND SERVE YOU AT THE COMMUNITY WELL.

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH.

INTRODUCE JIM PARKER AS OUR NEW CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER AS YOU KNOW, THE BOARD HAS MADE INCREDIBLE INVESTMENTS IN TECHN IF YOU LOOK AT THE BUDGET BOOK, WE WOULD BE THE AND V OF ANY INSTITUTION OR SYSTE IN TERMS OF THE SUPPORT THAT WE HAVE PLACED THERE.

HE BROUGHT ABOUT MODERNIZING THE COLLEGE ENTERPRISE APPLICATION INFRASTRUCTURE, EXPANDED SUPPORT FOR STUDENT ACCESS AN BROADBAND, WORKED TO IMPLEMENT VIRTUAL COMPUTING, TRANSFORMED MISSION SECURITY, CYBERSECURITY.

ALL OF THAT IS IMPORTANT TO US AS WE LOOK AT PERMITTING A NEW WORKDAY SYSTEM AND OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH MAKING THAT HAPPEN.

WE FELT THAT WE HAD BEEN BATTLE FOR WELL OVER A YEAR, THAT WE HAD WON THE BATTLE.

THE ENEMY CHANGED TACTICS.

PUT ON NEW ARMOR AND DEVELOP SOME NEW WEAPONS AT WHICH TO ATTACK US AND CERTAINLY THE NEW DELTA VARIANT IS CONSIDERABLY MORE POTENT IN JUST ABOUT EVERY WAY FROM THE ALTA VARIANT WHICH WE WERE BATTLING FOR SO LONG.

IT HAS CAUSED US TO GO BACK AND WITHIN THE GUIDELINES OF WHICH WE ARE OPERATING OF THE STATE OF TEXAS TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF VACCINES AS I SHARED WITH MANY OF OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM IN CONVERSATIONS WITH LOCAL HEALTH OFFICIALS, THE CEOS OF HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS IN THE NORTH TEXAS AREA AND TALKING ABOUT THEIR HOSPITAL ADMISSIONS FOR COVID.

IT IS CLEAR THE VACCINE PROTECTS PEOPLE, IT SAVES LIVES, AND KEEP THEM OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND FRANKLY FOR US, WE CAN CONTINUE T OFFER CLASSES AND SERVE STUDENTS.

SO AS WE WOULD, WANTS TO GET BACK TO IN-PERSON CLASSES, UP TO IN PERSON ACTIVITY, WE ARE GOING TO STRONGLY ENCOURAGE AND EVERYONE TO GET THE VACCINE.

WE ARE GOING TO STRONGLY ENCOURAGE, AS YOU HAVE SEEN WITH US AND MANY THAT WE ARE WEARING MASKS.

TO CONTINUE THAT WE CONTINUE THE TYPES OF ACTIVITIES THAT WE KNOW THAT WHERE A SIMPLE THINGS LIKE HANDWASHING AND OTHERS AND KEEPING AN APPROPRIATE DISTANCE AWAY TO AVOID THE SPREAD AND ENCOURAGE US TO REALLY GET TO WHERE WE WANT TO BE, OFFERING EVERYONE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR IN-PERSON CLASS TO HAVE THAT CLASS FOR OUR FACULTY AND STAFF AND FEEL SAFE IN THE WORK ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH WE ARE OPERATING.

SO I APPRECIATE THE BOARD FOR SUPPORT AS WE BUDGET AND ENCOURAGE US TO RE-IMPLEMENT SOME OF OUR PROCESSES PREVIOUSLY AS WE DEAL WITH THIS EVER-CHANGING THREAT THAT IS THE REALITY.

LIVING IN A PANDEMIC WORLD FOR YEARS TO COME AS WE ADDRESS THE NEEDS.

I KNOW I SPEAK FOR EVERY PERSON WITHIN THE DALLAS COLLEGE APPRECIATION FOR HIM AND I JUST HAVE TO SAY ON BEHALF OF THE FACULTY STAFF AND DALLAS COLLEGE, APPRECIATION TO OUR BOARD.

BUT I THINK CERTAINLY A SPECIAL APPRECIATION FOR HIS SELFLESS INFLUENCE, HIS DEDICATION TO HIS COMMITMENT TO EDUCATION AND BEING HERE JUST BECAUSE HE WANTED TO GIVE BACK.

WE WERE REMINDED OF WHAT THE INTERNATIONAL ROTAR YEAR, EACH YEAR, THE PRESIDENT, INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT ROTARY SELE THE MOTTO OF HIS INCOME.

IT IS AN IT WAS TO SERVE, TO CHANGE LIVES.

AND TO BECAUSE THAT IS EXACTLY OUR MOTTO.
