[00:02:28]
>> THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET WITH YOU.
AND WORKING TOGETHER AND TALKING ABOUT THE MOMENTMUM POINTS WE HERE AT DCCCD.
I START YOU WITH AN AGENDA WE WILL BE, THE INTRODUCTION AS WE'RE GOING TO BE MOVING THROUGH THIS AS FAIRLY QUICKLY AND AS REASONABLE AS POSSIBLE.
WE'RE GOING TO GIVE AN OVERVIEW OF SELECTED COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS.
WE'LL TALK ABOUT 60 BY 30 UPD UPDATES.
ENROLLMENT PLANS, OUTCOME BASED FUNDING, ADVANCEING THE NETWORK BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY.
SO THIS ONE HERE, YOU'VE SEEN BEFORE.
THERE ARE SEVEN COLLEGES WITHIN DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DIS DISTRICT.
WE ARE WORKING WITH 16 INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND 25 CITIES.
AS YOU KNOW OUTSIDE THIS GENERAL SERVICE AREA, E DO SERVE FOLKS FROM OTHER CITIES AND OTHER COMMUNITIES THAT CHOOSE, BECAUSE THEY KNOW HAT WE ARE THE BEST VALUE AND COLLEGE FOR THEM.
THAT THEY COME OUT INTO OUR SERVICE AREA FROM OTHER CITIES.
I BEGIN WITH A GENERAL OVERVIEW.
SOME SELECTED COLLEGE HIG HIGHLIGHTS.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS I'LL GIVE ABOUT MOUNTAIN VIEW FOLLOWED BY NORTH LAKE AND RICHLAND.
WE TALKED ABOUT OUR CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES AND YOU'LL SEE SOME OF THIS A LITTLE BIT LATER ON WHEN WE TALK ABOUT PERFORMANCE BASED FUNDING.
MOUNTAIN VIEW COLLEGE ONE OF THE CHALLENGES IS THAT 83% OF OUR STUDENT.
IF THEY ARE GOING PART TIME IT ST TAKES LONGER TO GRADUATE AND LONGER TO TRANSFER BECAUSE THEY'RE ONLY TAKING ONE TO TWO CLASSES AT A TIME OVER A LONGER PERIOD.
THE SECOND CHALLENGE IS OVER 07% OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION WHICH ALSO EXPANDS THELET OF TIME THAT THEY'RE HERE AT MOUNTAIN VIEW COLLEGE WHICH INCREASES THE LENGTH OF TIME FOR THEM TO GRADUATE AND COMPLETE A TRANSFER.
SOME SUCCESSES, OUR ENROLLMENT GR GROWTH.
THIS MORNING WE WERE UP ANOTHER 1 18%.
LAST YEAR WE'RE ELEBRATE THE 10,000.
WE LOOKED AT THE EARLY COLLEGE TO SEE HOW THAT WAS IMPACTED AND IT DID.
WE ALMOST DOUBLED THE SIZE OF OUR FIRST TIME IN COLLEGE STUDENTS
[00:05:01]
AND I ATTRIBUTE THAT TO THE DALLAS PROMISE.IT SHOWS IT WORKS AND THAT WE DO HAVE ACCESS IN OUR NURSING PROGRAM ANOTHER SUCC SUCCESS.
MANY OF YOU MAY HAVE HEARD ME SAY THIS.
THREE YEARS AGO WHEN I CALM TO MOUNTAIN VIEW COLLEGE WE WERE AT A 51% PASS RATE.
I RECEIVED UNOFFICIAL WORD, THE LAST THREE YEARS WE'VE BEEN AT WORD WE WILL HAVE 100% PASS RATE
IN OUR NURSING EXAM>> EXCITED ABOUT THAT AND I'LL TRANSITION TO MY COLLEAGUE
>> SO A CONTRAST TO MOUNTAIN VIEW.
OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE IS OVERALL ENROLLMENT GROWTH FOR TALK ABOUT THE CHALLENGES I HAD GETTING ISDS ON BOARD.
THAT HAS IMPACTED SOME OF THE GROWTH THE WE'RE SEEING AT A SLOWER RATE.
WE HAVE A LETTER OF INTENT FROM IVOR VINING IRVING ISD STRATEGIES AND OTHER
>> GOOD NEWS IS THAT AFTER MANY YEARS OF FRUSTRATING STAGNATION OF DEVELOPMENTAL SUCCESS RATES WE'VE TURNED A CORNER TO DEVELOPMENTAL MATH.
WE'RE SEEING GREAT INCREASES OF DOUBLE DIGIT.
>> ABILOUT HOW MANY MINUTES DO THEY GET
ONE F THE CHALLENGES THAT WE FACED AT RICHLAND IS THE EN ENABLING MILESTONE OF SUCCESS AND MATMATICS.
AND WE WERE ONE OF THE INITIAL CARNEGIES THAT WAY COLLEGES AND WE HAVE SEEN GOOD RESULTS OVER TIME.
HOWEVER, WE WOULD LIKE SUCCESS IN MATHEMATICS TO BE HIGHER.
OUR TLHREE YEAR INCREASE AND DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION.
THERE ARE SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN A GIVEN YEAR AND COLLEGE LEVEL MATHEMATICS IS UP 2% IN THE PRIOR YEAR.
WE'VE HIRED ADDITIONAL FACULTY AND PUT IN PLACE STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE AND CONTINUE TO IMPROVE MATHEMATIC.
THE GROWING NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN DISTANCE AND NLINE SOURCES ACROSS THE ENTIRE NETWORK IS OF CONCERN TO US BECAUSE WE HAVE A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN DISTANCE LEARNING.
OUR CURRENT SUCCESS RATE IS SHOWING A 4% PERFORMANCE GAP FROM ALL STUDENT SUCCESS.
ALL STUDENTS ACHIEVE C OR BETTER AT 75%.
TO LOSE THAT PERFORMANCE GAP AND HAVE GREATER SCCESS.
ON THE PLUS SIDE WE'LL POINT OUT TWO AREAS.
ONE IS THE S.T.E.M. CENTER US TO ADVANCE FORWARD.
WE WERE ABLE TO MODIFY A FACILITY AND PUT IN PLACE A COMPREHENSIVE ADVISING MODEL THAT WAS THE PATH WAYS ON STE STEROIDS.
WE HAVE NAVIGATORS, ENIOR ACADEMIC PATH WAY ADVISORS, WE HAVE PART-TIME ADVISORS AND WE HAVE STUDENTS HIRED TO TUTOR WITHIN THE CENTER.
THE STUDENTS, LMOST 9 THOUSAND STUDENTS CALM THROUGH THAT CENTER AND THEY'RE RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM BUSINESSES AND COMPANIES ON INTERNSHIPS AND JOB OPPORT OPPORTUNITIES.
[00:10:01]
COMPANIES AND SECURE THAT INFORMATION.>> THEY ARE ASSISTED IN REC RECEIVING SCHOLARSHIPS.
THIS YEAR ALMOST 188 HOURS OF TUT TUTORING.
WE THINK IT'S A MOD THAT WILL HAS POTENTIAL TO BE LOOKED AT BEYOND THE S.T.E.M. CENTER.
>> AT BROOKHAVEN I BEGIN TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT WAS REALLY GETTING MORE EFFICIENT ANGERED EFFECTIVE WITH THE USE OF YOU ARE ASSETS.
YOU MAY RECALL SEEING SOME PICTURES OF WHAT OUR SCHEDULING LOOKED LIKE.
WE HAVE AMPLE OPENINGS AND AFTERNOONS, EVINGS AND WEEKEND.
WHERE WE CAN FIT BETTER THERE.
WHERE THAT WILL FIT N BETTER WITH COMMUNITY AND INDUSTRY.
THAT IS AN EMPHASIS FOR US GOING FORWARD IN THE FALL.
WE LOOK FOR COMPREHENSIVE MASTER SCHEDULING THAT COLLEGES ON THAT.
OUR PROGRAM MAKES IT A KEY PART OF THAT.
CALL OUTS FOR US FROM OUR AREA IN PARTICULAR ELECTRICAL TRADE.
WE CAN SEE A PARTNERSHIP WITH NORTH NORTHLAKE.
AND WORKING WITH EL CENTRO TO BRING THAT IN THE AREA.
THAT IS ADVANCE MANUFACTURING WE CAN WORK WITH MOUNTAIN VIEW AT NORTH LAKE COLLEGE TO MEET THAT ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VALUEW -- VALWOOD PARK WAY SIGN.
WE'RE THE PREMIER PROVIDER IF EMS-PA EMS-PARAMEDIC.
THAT DALLAS FIRE AND RESCUE CONTRACT HAD TRIBALED -- TRIPLED OUR COMPLETERS IN THAT AREA ALONE AND WE HAVE THE FIRE DEPARTMENTS COMING TO US HOW CAN WE
>> IN THE RATION YEAR SUBARU AND NISSAN HAVE COME ON BOARD.
SEVEN YEARS AGO WHEN I BEGAN IT WAS BARELY 3% OF OUR ENROLLMENT.
THAT'S OME UP TO IN SOME SEMESTERS AS MUCH AS 13%.
WE HAVE WORK WITH THE OTHER HIGH SCHOOLS TO BUILD REGULAR DUAL CREDIT AS WELL.
AND IT'S BECOME A STRONG SUIT FOR US TOO.
I YIELD THE REMAINDER OF MY TIME TO THE GENTLEMAN FROM CEDAR VA VALLEY.
CEDAR VALLEY WE HAVE ENORMOUS OPPORTUNITY TO IMPROVE THAT BY INTRO ESTABLISHING A TRANSFER THE POSITIVE SIDE WE HAVE A IMPROVING OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERS.
LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND THE OPENING OF THE EARLY COLLEGIATE DISCOVERIES CENTER.
[00:15:30]
>> SIMILAR TO WHAT YOU'VE HEARD BEFORE WITH SOME OF OUR COLL COLL COLLEAGUES.
WE ARE CHALLENGED IN TERMS OF AS YOU HEARD THROUGH OUR FACILITY MASTER PLAN.
SOME OF OUR INSTITUTION MORE SO THAN OTHERS.
MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR US TO GET TO SAID -- SOMETHING THAT TOM SAID -- AT EL CENTRO WE ARE LOOKING CLOSELY AT PROGRAM WHICH IS THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY THERE'S ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US AT EL CENTRO AND BETTER USE OF THE TIME DURING THE DAY.
AND ALSO THE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN VISIONS AND PROGRAMS IN TERMS OF INSURING THAT THE SCHEDULES THAT PUT TOGETHER IN SCHEDULE.
THE SECOND CHALLENGE I THINK WE HAVE OF OUR STUDENTS PROGRAMS THAT YOU KNOW HISPANIC, FEMALE ENROLLED IN TWO YEARS.
CARE GAIVER OF AFTER SIX YEARS WHAT HAPPENS TO MARISOLE? DE DEGREE.
DUAL CREDIT IS 33% OF OUR AND THAT'S A GOOD THING.
-- DISTANCE LEARNING -- 13 INTERESTS AND 14% INCREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR.
AND WE HAVE A LOAD OF PARTNERSHIPS SOME HEARD WE HAVE A LAUNCHING OF THE EMERGENCY VISUAL ARTS PROGRAMMING TO THEIR STUDENTS ON CAMPUS ON SATURDAYS THE LAST THING IS WE HAVE A GREAT PARTNERSHIP WITH TEXAS A&M COMMERCE IN TERMS OF THE ENGINEERING PROGRAM THAT ALL THE WORK FORCE
>> DID YOU WANT TO SAY SOM SOMETHING?
>> COMPLETION OF THE SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS, 15, 30 AND 42 IS A
[00:20:02]
CONTINUING CHALLENGE.STUDENTS DON'T TAKE ENOUGH HOURS AND THEY DON'T FINISH AT THOSE MILE MILESTONES.
WE DECIDED TO START AN EIGHT-WEEK SEMESTER SCHEDULE.
SO THAT STUDENTS HOPEFULLY CAN TAKE AS MANY AS TWO COURSES IN THE FIRST EIGHT WEEKS.
AND TWO TO THREE COURSES IN THE SECOND EIGHT WEEKS.
WHICH MEANS AT THE END OF 16 WEEKS THEY BECOME FULL-TIME STUDENTS.
THEY HAVE 12 OR 15 HOURS WHICH IS THE FIRST MILESTONE WHICH WE BELIEVE WILL HELP THEM GET TO THE END GOAL OF A DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE FASTER.
WE WERE NERVOUS THIS TIME BECAUSE THIS WAS OUR FIRST SEMESTER FOR IMPLEMENTATION.
WHA WHAT WOULD IT DO TO OUR ENROLLMENT.
IT TURNED OUT IT'S WORKED OUT FINE.
WE ARE AT A LITTLE OVER 16 THOUSAND STUDENTS AND THEY HAVE A SEMESTER TO ADD BECAUSE MANY HAVE NOT REGISTERED FOR THE SECOND EIGHT WAEEKS.
WE'RE HOLDING OUR BREATH TO SEE IF THAT WORKS WELL.
AS FAR AS OUR SUCCESSES LIKE SO MANY OF THE OTHER COLLEGES, THE GROWTH AND DUAL CREDITS.
IT'S 26% OF OUR OVERALL ENRO ENROLLMENT.
WE WORK WITH 30 DIFFERENT HIGH SCH SCHOOLS.
IN DELIVERING OUR DUAL CREDIT.
WE HAVE ALSO HAD STUDENT SUCCESS IN DEVELOPMENTAL MATH.
WE THINK THAT IS QUITE DRAY MATIC ANGERED GOOD.
ONE IS THE CO-RECK IS IT MODEL FOR STUDENTS TO TAKE DEVELOPMENTAL STUDIES AT THE SAME TIME THEY TAKE THEIR FIRST MATH COURSE AND THEY GETTED GET WHAP TUTORING ALONG THE WAY.
WE HAVE WHERE STUDENTS CAN TEST AND TAKE A MODULE OF THE MATH THEY STILL NEED.
THE LAST THING IS WE HAVE A FACULTY -- MATH ACULTY BOOT CAMP.
PAID EXTRA BEFORE THE SEMESTER STARTS TO GET ALL THE MATH FACULTY ON BOARD WITH THIS CO-RECK SIT AND STRATEGIES.
HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH STUDENTS IN YOUR CLASS THAT NEED HELP WITH DEVELOPMENT WORK AND YOU HAVE TO MOVE THEM TO THE END OUTCOME AND THE BOOT CAMP IS EVERY SEMESTER HAVE MADE A LOT OF DIFFERENCE.
HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS POINT?
>> DID YOU SAY YOU ISSUE WITHING WITH -- WORK WITH 30 HIGH SCH SCHOOLS?
>> I THINK WE HAVE MORE I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT NUMBER IS.
>> WITHIN DALLAS COUNTY THERE ARE 107 HIGH SCHOOLS.
I BELIEVE MOUNTAIN VIEW THAT HAS AN 18% ENROLLMENT INCREASE DUE TO DALLAS COMMERCE?
>> AND YOU HAVE A LOT OF DALLAS COMMERCE STUDENTS.
YOU ATTRIBUTING YOUR INCREASE TO DALLAS COMMERCE?
>> I THINK THAT THEY'RE STILL ENROLLING BELIEVE WE'RE SEEING INCREASE IN WHEN THE 31 HIGH SCHOOLS WE STARTED WITH -- WORKING WITH THOSE THAT WERE UNDER PERFORMING
[00:25:01]
THE MOST.AND HAD THE FEWEST STUDENTS GRADUATING AND GOING ON AND G GETTING A COLLEGE CREDENTIAL WHICH TENDED TO BE SOUTH.
AS WE'RE ADDING NEW ONES, WE'RE MOVING MORE NORTH AND WEST AS WELL.
>> THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT SKEWED SOUTH.
>> SO AFTER THE 12 CLASS AT THE EDUCATION WORKFORCE I'M SURE WE CAN GET ENROLLMENT NUMBERS, ALSO LET US KNOW WHAT THE ENROLLMENT INCREASE, WHAT IT IS ATTRIBUTED TO AND IF ENROLLMENT STAGNATION AND WHAT IS ATTRIBUTED TO.
BECAUSE WE NEED TO REPUBLLICATE THAT WE CAN.
>>LY JUST GIVE AN UPDATE ON ENROLLMENT.
THIS IS THE FALL ENROLLMENT LAST FALL AT THE CONCLUSION OF FALL SEM SEMESTER.
YOU CAN SEE WE WERE SERVING MORE THAN 80 THOUSAN,000 STUDENTS.
I'M PLEASED TO REPORT THAT AS OF THIS MORNING AND WE ARE STILL ENROLLING FOR THIS SEMESTER.
WE ARE AT THIS POINT NEARLY 8,000 STUDENTS AHEAD OF LAST YEAR.
THAT IS A VERY SIGNIFICANT INCREASE.
>> IT IS LIKE AN ENTIRE COLLEGE.
WE HAVE 9 ..59% INCREASE IN INCREASE IN CONTACT HOURS.
THESE NUMBERS, WHILE IT SHOWS JUST UNDER 77 THO,000, IF YOU G THE PORTAL, THE ARE CONTINUING TO INCREASE.
>> I ALWAYS UNDERSTOOD WHEN THE ECONOMY BOOMS, COMMUNITY COLLEGE ENROLLMENT THDROPS.
>> IT'S EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL AND PROMISE.
THOSE ARE THE TWO REALLY BIG FACTORS THAT ARE IMPACTED.
>> JUST ON EARLY -- THE PROMISE HIGH SCHOOLS ALONE, THOSE 31, WE WERE LAST TIME I LOOKED IT'S PROBABLY HIGHER.
WE WERE UP 800 STUDENTS FROM THAT SAME GROUP COMPARED TO A YEAR AGO.
800 MORE PEOPLE GOING TO COLLEGE THAT DRILL DOWN ON THIS SLIDE.
THE BOARD'S STRATEGIC PRIORITY OF ACHIEVING 65-30 TEXAS IS IMPACTING ALL OF OUR DECISION MAKING.
AND WE'VE SELECTED A FEW AREAS TO DESCRIBE FURTHER.
WE ARE ENTERING OUR THIRD YEAR OF THIS MULTI YEAR INITIATIVE.
IF YOU RECALL THIS IS TO TRANSFORM THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE TO INCREASE PERSISTENCE, 3 COMPLETION, TRANSFER AND EMPL EMPLOYMENT.
SYSTEMWIDE WE HAVE AN INTEGRATED APPROACH AND THE SEVEN CAREER PATHWAYS ARE NOW LIVE.
EFFECTIVE THIS SMALL SEMESTER.
WE HAVE NOW MAPPED LAST YEAR, 48 OF THE HIGHEST -- HIGHEST ENROLLMENT OF THE CAREER TECHNICAL PROGRAMS FROM DAY ONE TO UNIVERSITY COMPLETION.
AND WE DID ANOTHER 30 -- WE MEANING THE FACULTY DID ANOTHER 30 THIS SUMMER AND SCHEDULED TO DO ANOTHER DURING THIS YEAR AND THE FINAL LESS THAN 100 IN THE FOLLOWING YEAR.
RIGHT NOW I'M EXCITED TO SAY THAT WE -- THE CHIEF STUDENT SERVICE OFFICERS ARE REDESIGNING THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE FROMMED A MUGS THROUGH ENROLLMENT.
-- FROM ADMISSION TO ENROLLMENT.
SO ALL FIVE STEPS WILL BE CONSISTENTLY UNIFORM ACROSS ALL SEVEN COLLEGES.
REGARDLESS OF WHERE A STUDENT ENTERS OR COMES TO APPLY, REGISTER, ET CETERA, ALL OF THE INFORMATION WILL BE THE SAME.
THE STEPS IN THE SAME ORDER AND THAT IS A BIG UNDER TAKING.
THAT WILL GO LIVE SECOND-Y YEAR OF JUST UNDER $2 MILLION AND THAT'S SUPPORTING 25 POSITIONS.
TO AUGMENT PATHWAY ADVISORS AND CAREER COACHES.
AND WE HAVE THE STUDENT -- ADV ADVISOR-STAY TUNED RATIO AT -- ADVISOR STUDENT RATIO ABOUT DCCCD.
WE'RE MAKING GOOD HEADWAY THERE AND WE HAVE NAVIGATORS SERVING
[00:30:01]
ALL OF UR STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF INSTITUTION.THE GPS TECHNOLOGY SOFTWARE SUPPORT IS IN FINAL VENDOR DEMONS DEMONSTRATIONS.
A DECISION WILL BE MADE THIS FALL.
WE ARE LEASED WITH PROGRESS IN UNITED PATHWAYS.
LAST DLASHGS FULL SCHOLARSHIP, TRACKING SOME OF THE KEY ELE ELEMENTS.
THE REASON THIS IS SO CRITICAL FOR US, BESIDE IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
IS THAT WE ONLY HAVE 37% OF DALLAS COUNTY RESIDENTS -- THE JOBS N THIS REGION REQUIRE 67%.
AN ASSOCIATE OR B-- AND EDUCATIN OF OUR POPULOUS.
THIS IS SO IMPORTANT AND IT'S AN EXCITING INITIATIVE.
WE HAVE 31 HIGH SCHOOLS CURRENT PARTICIPATING AT THIS TIME.
THEY REPRESENT THAT COHORT FROM OUR HIGHEST POSITIVITY, LOWEST COLLEGE-GOING SUCCESS ACADEMY GR GRAPHIC IN THE CITY.
-- DEMOGRAPHIC IN THE CITY AND OUR GOAL AMONG THOSE 31 HIGH SCHOOLS THIS FALL WAS TO ACHIEVE INCREASE OVER THEIR PRIOR COLLEGE GOING FROM 18 -- 1872 INDIVIDUALS TO 2500.
WHICH IS 4 #% -- 41% THAN THE YEAR AGO REPRESENTING THOSE SCH SCHOOLS.
BROADENING TO 2 MORE SCHOOLS -- 2 MORE 12 MORE SCHOOLS.
YOU WILL HEAR MORE ABOUT PROMISE AS WE GO FORWARD.
THE EXPANSION IN DUAL CREDIT IN EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL CONTINUES.
WE WELCOMED THIS WEEK 900 NEW JUNIORS ACROSS THE SEVEN NETWORK CAMPUSES THAT ARE PART OF THE -- OF THE COHORT ONE.
THOSE STUDENTS STARTED TWO YEARS AGO AS FRESHMAN AND AND NOW REACHING JUNIOR STATUS.
YESTERDAY WAS THEIR FIRST DAY ON CA CAMPUS.
AND T WAS VERY EXCITING TO HAVE THESE NEW STUDENTS FROM THE ISDS THAT ARE NEW EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCH SCHOOLS.
THEY JOINED THE FORMER FIVE EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS THAT HAVE BEEN IN OPERATION FOR A WHILE.
WE HAVE OVER 4200 EARLY COLLEGE TYPE SCHOOL STUDENTS ON OUR CAM CAMPUSES.
WE HAVE 66 INDUSTRY PARTNERS WHO ARE ACTIVELY AT WORK -- SO THAT IS REALLY EXCITING.
WE'RE DOING NETWORK PLANNING FOR FACILITIES TOGETHER.
WE'RE WORKING WITH OF THE INDIVIDUAL COLLEGE MASTER PLANS WITH THE OVERALL SYSTEM MASTER PLAN ND THAT IS UNDER WAY.
WE ARE APPROACHING FROM SYSTEMS PERSP PERSPECTIVE.
PROGRAM REVIEW AND -- ANOTHER AREA.
AND WE FINISHED A FIRST PILOT YEAR OF CLEAR TECHNICAL PROGRAM REVIEW AND WE WILL ALSO MOVE TO THE ACADEMIC DISCIPLINES.
THE CHANCELLOR HAS CHALLENGED ALL OF US TO AN AGGRESSIVE INCREASE OF 55 THOUSAN,000 DEGR CERTIFICATES OVER OUR CURRENT ATTA ATTAINMENT.
IN ORDER TO REACH 60-30 TEXAS.
THIS IS AN EXTENSIONIVE GOAL WE3 HAVE ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE FOR.
WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO CONTRIBUTE OUR PROPORTIONAL SHARE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.
THAT'S 245 THOUSAND ,000 INDIVI EARN A CREDENTIAL BY 2030.
WE WILL USE THE MECHANISMS OF THE PROMISE.
AND THE LEVEL UP SKCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS TO EACH CONTRIBUTED
[00:35:01]
PROPORTIONAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS TOWARDS THIS GOAL ACHIEVEMENT.WE EACH HAVE OUR SPECIFIC NUMBERS EVERY YEAR FROM NOW TO 2030 THAT WE HAVE TO ATTAIN.
AND WE ARE ALL ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN THAT EFFORT.
WE'RE WORKING IN PLANNING AND BUDGETING THROUGH THE INTEGRATED EDUCATION PLAN THAT WILL BE LAUNCHING ACROSS ALL SEVEN OF OUR COLLEGES.
EXPANDING -- CONSOLIDATING WHERE NECESSARY AND LOOKING FORWARD TO POLICY AND THE IMPLEMENTATION THAT WE WILL BE PUTTING IN PLACE AT THE ECOMMENDATION OF THE BOSTON CONSULTING GROUP WHICH WILL IMPACT FACULTY LOAD AND ALSO TO SHARE TALENT WHERE WE CAN IN AREA SUCH AS HUMAN RESOURCE AND OTHER AREAS WHERE IT MAKES SENSE TO LOOK AT SHARED TA TALENT.
WE ALSO HAVE ENGAGED IN PROACTIVE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OMMITTED AS A SYSTEM NETWORK TO 19 HOURS OF REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR EVERY FULL TIME EMPLOYEE.
REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU'RE LOCATED ACROSS HE SYSTEM.
AND THAT HAS GONE INTO PLACE FOR THIS ACADEMIC SCHOOL YEAR.
WE JUST COMPLETED ALL OF THE NEW FULL-TIME FACULTY BOOT CAMP WHERE THEY SPENT 60 HOURS TOGETHER IN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACROSS ALL SEVEN LOCA LOCATIONS.
THEIR NAME TAGS DID NOT INDICATE WHICH COLLEGE THEY WERE ASSIGNED TO.
SO THERE WAS AN OPPORTUNITY TO REALLY COME TOGETHER AND BUILD A COLLEAGUE BASE.
AS WELL AS BECOME ACKLEYCLIMATE THE CULTURE OF THE DCCCD AND THE COL COLLEGES.
>> CHANCELLOR ON THE CHALLENGE TO ADD -- 55,000 BY 2030, WAS THAT YOUR DECISION ON THE NUMBER OR WAS THAT COORDINATING BOARD?
>> WHAT WE DID, WE FACTORED IN POPULATION GROWTH INTO THAT.
>> VERY MUCH ALIGNED WITH THE REGIONAL.
AND THAT'S -- I KNOW WE'RE UP ABOUT 1,000 EPHOR COUPLE YEARS A AGO.
>> SO THE 55,000 IN 12 YEARS BRINGS IT TO 4500 MORE? PER YEAR? I DOUBT YOU'LL HIT THAT NEXT 3 YEAR BUT WILLED UP -- BUILD UP TO IT.
IT'S A THOUSAND THINGS THAT MAT NE'ER THE PROCESS.
AND MAYBE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT FROM COLLEGE TO COLLEGE OF WHERE THE FRICTION LAYS.
T IT'S GOING TO TAKE A FEW YEARS
>> I APPRECIATE THE CALCULATOR.
>> SO NO QUESTIONS? YOU HAVE A QUESTION?
>> I'M TRYING UNDERSTAND THE CORRELATION AND RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ENROLLMENT AND STUDENTS THIS YEAR WHICH IS TREMENDOUS.
AND HOW THAT ANSWER THIS LATES INTO CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES OVER THE NEXT 12 YEARS.
AND ALSO DO WE HAVE TO ABSORB ALL OF THAT ENROLLMENT GROWTH IN OUR OWN FACILITIES? OR ARE WE USING OTHER PEOPLE'S FACILITIES LIKE ISDS THROUGH OUR PARTNERSHIPS WITH THEM TO PROVIDE A PLACE TO TEACH?
WE ARE PRETTY MUCH ARE ABSORBING THESE INTO OUR FACILITIES.
THERE'S OMETHING HAPPENING CONCURRENT WITH THIS.
WHILE PARTICULARLY DALLAS ISD DID HAVE SOME UNDER UTILIZED FACILITIES, IT'S ALSO SHIFTED THEIR ENROLLMENT PATTERNS.
THEY'RE SEEING ENROLLMENT GROWTH WHERE THEY ONCE HAD -- THERE WAS A DECLINE IN CHARTER SCHOOL ENROLLMENT THROUGHOUT THE AREA AS A RESULT OF WHAT WE'RE
>> AND EVEN SHIFT FROM MAGNET SCHOOLS OVER TO THE EARLY
[00:40:01]
COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS IS BECOMING AN ISSUE ALL THE WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT WITH OUR EDUCATION PLAN DRIVING BOTH THE FACILITIES, THE TALENT AS WELL AS OUR BUDGET ON THE BOARD AND HOW WE ALIGN THOSE.>> C. COMPTON: I DON'T REMEMBER BUT LIKE TO HAVE A COPY OF IT.
HOW MANY PEOPLE DO WE HAVE ENROLLED WITH ON LINE?
>> WE'LL GET YOU THAT NUMBER WHEN THE FALL ENROLLMENT IS IN.
>> GET THE FALL ENROLLMENT UPDATE THAT WILL BE A PIECE OF IT.
>> A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE TAKING SAME TIME.
FOR MORE EXCLUSIVE, WE CAN BREAK THAT OUT.
>> C. COMPTON: I ONLINE AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHAT THOSE ONLINE NUMBERS LOOK LIKE.
WASN'T IT MY UNDERSTANDING THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT THEY CAN'T TAKE THE ONLINE CLASSES? THEY HAVE TO DO
>> THEY HAVE FULL ACCESS TO OUR CURRICULUM.
THEY HAVE PROVEN THEY ARE COLLEGE READY.
SO THEY CTE OR ON LINE OUR STUDENTS HAVE FULL ACCESS TO CURRICULUM.
WE HAVE STUDENTS N AUTOMOTIVE WHO HAVE
PARTICULARLY COMING INTO THE -- NEW TO THE ENVIRONMENT.
ENGAGE IN THE CULTURE OF COLLEGE.
BUT RARELY DON'T THINK WE WILL SEE A DUAL CREDIT STUDENT TAKING EXCL EXCLUSIVELY ONLINE.
SOME OMBINATION OF ONLINE OR --
>> NOT IF THEY'RE IN THE -- BASED ON THE AGREEMENT WE HAVE WITH THE SCHOOL.
HOWEVER, SO FOR THOSE THOSE ARE THE ONES THAT WE PROVIDE THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR SUPPORT.
BUT STUDENTS CAN ELECTRIC ON THEIR OWN -- ELECT ON THEIR OWN TO TAKE THE AND THEY PAY FOR THAT OUT OF THEIR POCKET.
>> NO OTHER QUESTIONS ON THIS?
>> FACILITIES AND -- EACH OF THE COLLEGES IS WHICH IS A VERY GOOD THING
I'M SAYING THE CONVERSATION ABOUT FACILITIES, AND EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS AND EXPANSIONS IS GOOD BECAUSE THAT IS DEAL WITH IN TERMS OF SPACE ALLOCATION OR CLASSROOMS. AS WELL AS FACILITIES NEED FOR
>> IS THAT MICROPHONE WORKING?
>> THAT WAY YOU'RE CONTINUING TO RAISE YOUR VOICE I KNOW YOU HAVE A SOFT VOICE.
YOU MIGHT WANT TO USE THE MICR MICROPHONE.
>> I REMEMBER BEING A PROFESSOR
[00:45:11]
>> TRADITIONAL MODEL IS THAT STUDENTS COME TO THEY INTERACT WITH STUDENTS ON THE CAMPUS THEY UTILIZE CLASSROOM SPACE, LABS AND WE PROVIDE OR COUNSELOR OR ADVISOR.
EL CENTRO IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT3 IN THE WAY WE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS.
AND THAT PROVIDE SOME BENEFITS AND SOME LIMITATIONS AS WELL.
LIKE MANY OF OUR COLLEGES I VISITED THE WEST CAMPUS ON MONDAY.
SEE THE STUDENTS THERE, THE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THERE AND THE OPPORTUNITY SPEAK WITH THE DISD STAFF AS WELL AT PRESCHOOLS
THOSE ARE WALK CROSS THE STREET TO DO THAT NOW.
A GOOD BENEFIT OF AND THE PLACE FOR OTHER CO-LAB -- CISCO LAB NEATS NEEDS OF STUDENTS TAKING CISCO ACC ACCOUNTING.
NOT ONLY AT THE WEST CAMPUS BUT THE INSTITUTION RECENTLY SAW A NUMBER OF 64 ADDITIONAL ENROLLMENT INTO OUR CISCO LABS WELL.
THE OTHER AREA I WOULD LIKE TO MENTION IS BUSINESS THROUGH CONTINUING EDUCATION EFFORTS, RIGHT NOW I THINK MAKING SOME PROGRESS DISTRICTWIDE IN TERMS OF THAT ISSUE.
WE'RE LOOKING AT CORPORATE T TRAINING AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL AND HOPING THE DISTRICT LEVEL WILL BE AN EFFORT SUPPORTED THAT LARGE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING WITH THEIR STAFF.
AND PROVIDE WITH THOSE KINDS OF RESO RESOURCES.
THEN AT EL CENTRO ITSELF WE EDUCATION PROGRAM.
NOT TO FOCUS ON WHAT THEY DO NONPROFIT PROJECTS, THAT AT CORPORATE
>> SO WE THINK THOSE ARE GOOD AVENUES FOR US TO PURSUE.
I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO MENTION WE ARE ALL INTERESTED IN GROWING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS. ASKED US TO GROW THAT TO 35 PARTN ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMS. THE JOB TRAINING PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS.
THOSE THAT ARE AND IF THEY QUALIFY SUCH AS HOTEL, RESTCOUNTRY CLUB THE AREA AND STUDENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY THEY ALSO HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY
>> INVOLVED WITH TERN ASSOCIATION BOOTCAMP.
WE HAVE ABOUT 450 STUDENTS THAT WE IN THIS PROGRAM.
I ALSO LIKE TO MENTION THAT WE HAVE RETAIL MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM AT WALMART THAT IS A PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR COLLEAGUES AT AND THAT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY -- THE WORK FORCE OF
[00:50:01]
DALLAS ONE -- WE ESTIMATE THEY WILL HAVE 450 STUDENTS WORKING WITH 3 CEDAR VALLEY AND AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE THIS BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY.IT TERMS OF DESIGNING BASED EDUCATION BEGS THE QUESTION WHY IT IS IMPORTANT.
IF I COME IN AS A STUDENT WITH LOTS OF EXPERIENCE IN NURSING.
EVALUATED ADVANCE THROUGH THE NURSING PROGRAM MUCH FASTER THAN NOT HAVING DONE THAT WITH SOME OTHER DISCIPLINE THAT IS A PARTICULAR AREA.
SO THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO DO THAT.
I SHOULD MENTION THAT EL CENTRO IN 2012, WE LAUNCHED A PRIOR LEARNING ASSESSMENT PROGRAM.
AS N OUTCOME WE HAVE AN THAT PROGRAM.
WITH 101 STUDENTS EARNING COLLEGE CREDIT
ANDING -- THE>> GAPS IN THE LATE AFTERNOONS AND WEEKENDS AND SOMETIMES WE HAVE ABILIT ABILITIES.
>> THNATIONAL LEVEL AND NATIONA LEVEL COMMUNITY COLLEGES YEARS MENTIONED EARLIER THE ECONOMY IS HOT.
STUDENTS DON'T COME TO COLLEGE OF IT BECAUSE OF THE THINGS WE OFF OFFER COL COLLEGES.
DALLAS PROMISES IMPACTING THIS.
EARLY THOSE THINGS ARE POSITIVE THINGS FOR US D
[00:57:40]
>> THE CONCEPT WITH COLLEGE LEARNING ASSESSMENT.
BASED ON FULL ASSESSMENT THAT IS PA PACKET.
THAT WE OFFER THEN CREDITS ON THEIR PRIOR EXPERIENCE.
THAT HAVE BEEN WORKING AT EMTS OR SOME MEDICAL FIELD THAT ISN'T IT GREAT TO PUT THAT EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE AND VISIT COUNT TOWARDS YOUR DEGREE OR CERTI CERTIFICATE.
>> DO THEY HAVE TO JUSTIFY WHY THEY SHOULD GET THE CREDIT IN THAT PARTICULAR COURSE? IS THERE A PROCESS?
IT'S A COMPANCIVE PROCESS THAT -- COMPREHENSIVE PROCESS THAT STUDENTS HAVE TO PREPARE A PORTFOLIO AND JUSTIFICATION WHY IT IS THEY SHOULD RECEIVE THE COLLEGE CREDIT.
AND DETERMINE BY THE FACULTY IN THE
>> THERE'S A NATIONAL STANDARD FOR HOW THAT'S DONE AND WE BROUGHT IN THE GROUP THAT OVERSEES THAT FOR THE COUNTRY AND THEY WORK WITH ALL OF OUR COL COLLEGES.
>> I DID THAT DBU AND GOT 30 CREDIT HOURS.
THERE WAS A LOT OF WRITING, AND A LOT OF BUILDING THE POR PORTFOLIOS.
I WAS CURIOUS IF WE DO THE SAME THING.
>> THEY FOLLOW THE SAME PROCESS.
>> AS I MENTION DOES BEFORE -- BEFORE AS THE DISTRICT LEVEL BE INVOLVED.
>> DOES HELP THOSE THE DEGREE TO GET TO IT QUICKLY BY RECOGNIZING WHAT VALUE THEY ALREADY BRING IN THE CERTAIN AREA.
>> I THINK ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY, AS YOU SAID, TO WORK WITH THOSE THAT ARE 24 BLUES IN -- PLUS IN AGE.
A POPULATION REFERENCED BY JOE THAT WE NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO.
[01:00:03]
WE REACH OUT TO THE TRADITIONAL HAVE ECONOMIC NEEDS BASED ON POSITIVITY LEVELS.AS WE CONTINUE THIS EXPANSION AND PAY -- I THINK PLA IS --
>> ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS PAGE? BEFORE MOVING ON, I APOLOGIZE I LIKE TO GO BACK TO PAGE FOUR.
DR. SEABROOKS YOU SAID YOU WERE LOOK TO OVERALL TECHNOLOGY AND GETTING THAT IT OF YOUR FUND BALANCE?
WE HAVE THAT ANTICIPATED IN OUR BUDGET INCREASE FOR NEXT YEAR.
ONE OF OUR GAME CHANGING PRIORITIES MOVING FORWARD.
>> WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT NEXT YEAR YOU TALK ABOUT 2019 ACADEMIC YEAR?
ARE YOU CONTINUING DR. R DR. RODRIGUEZ?
>> INSTEAD OF THE RED CARPET WE NEED TO WRAP THAT MIKE KNOWN RED.
>> WE'RE GOING THE SWITCH GEARS AND TALK ABOUT THE OUTCOME SPACE FUNDING TRENDS.
THIS CHART ALLOWS YOU TO SEE THREE HERE AND THREE --
>> YOU CAN SEE A GREAT UPWARD IMPROVEMENT THERE.
I THINK YOU HEARD SEVERAL TIMES THERE ARE MANY STRATEGIES AND APPROACHES COLLEGES ARE SING TO IMPROVE THE NUMBERS.
WE HAD A LOT OF WORK TO DO THERE AND WE'RE NOT DONE.
YOU'RE SEEING UPWARD MOTION IN THAT TREND LINE.
SO AT THIS POINT, THEN, WE WILL GO AND EACH COLLEGE WILL HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, LIKE WE DID LAST TIME, TO GIVE YOU ABOUT TWO MINUTES OF THE PARTICULAR CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES THAT WE SEE WITH OUR OWN OUTCOMES BASED FUNDING.
FOR NORTHLAKE WE WOULD LIKE TO BE ABLE TO -- SORRY.
>> SO CHANCELLOR, ON THE DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES, TO EACH -- REACH 55,000 BY 2030 WHAT IS THE AVERAGE INCREASE?
>> I DON'T KNOW IF I'VE CALCULATED IT THAT WAY -- OBVIOUSLY IT'S A COMPOUND.
>> NICE TO HAVE NUMBERS AS WELL AS PERCENTAGES.
>> THIS IS OUR INTERNAL AND I'LL BE NEXT WEEK TALKING ABOUT THE -- I WANT TO SAY HERE.
16% OF IN TERMS OF PERFORMANCE BASE.
NOT ONLY THE HIGHEST IN TEXAS BUT HIGHEST IN THE NATION.
USUALLY IT'S 3% ABOUT THAT -- WHAT YOU WOULD SEE.
>> YOU WERE SAYING THAT -- DID YOU SAY NEXT WEEK YOU'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT --
>> AT THE COMMITTEE MEETING? I WAS GOING TO ASK, I NOTICED IN THE LAST ROUND OF PRESENTATIONS THAT WE SAW WHEN WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE BUDGET THAT I SAW CONSISTENTLY FOR EACH CAMPUS, THAT STATE PERFORMING.
I WAS WONDERING IF YOU HAVE SOME TYPE OF COMPREHENSIVE PLAN OR STRATEGY TO --
>> WE DO AND YOU'RE HEARING SOME OF IT NOW.
I WILL TALK ABOUT THAT IN MORE DEPTH AT THE WHAT YOU'RE HEARING NOW THE INDIVIDUAL COLLEGES.
SOME OF THE CHALLENGES ARE REALLY SYSTEM PROBLEMS NOT INDIVIDUAL COLLEGE CHALLENGES.
[01:05:02]
THOSE.>> HAVE YOU ALL BEEN LOOKING AT THE INSTITUTIONS THAT ARE PERFORMING WELL? HOW WE MEASURE UP AGAINST THOSE AND THE REASONS FOR THE DPI
DPIFRNS>> WE DO>> AND YOU'RE HEARING SOME OF THAT HERE.
IT'S AN IMPROVEMENT STRATEGY THAT WORKS.
THEIR ENERGY A SHORTER PERIOD OF TIME ON ONE OR TWO CLASSES INSTEAD OF THE NORMAL FIVE THAT YOU WOULD GET AT ONE TIME.
>> C. COMPTON: I'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THE INFORMATION THAT WOULD LIKE TO SEE WHERE ADDRESS THAT ISSUE AND IT'S NOT COMBINED WITH EVERYTHING ELSE.
SO WE'LL GET A COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING AS TO EXACTLY WHAT'S GOING ON AND WHY THAT'S HAPP HAPPENING.
>> CHAIR D. FLORES: SOMEONE MAKE A NOTE OF THAT.
>> THAT'S WHAT I WILL L DO IN TWO PRESENTATIONS IN THE NEXT FLORES: IN SEPTEMBER?
LY WALK THROUGH AND TALK ABOUT THE CHALLENGES.
THAT'S ONE PRESENTATION AND TALK ABOUT THE SOLUTIONS IN TERMS OF THIS -- HOW DO YOU HAVE IT T TITLED? SO I UNDERSTAND THAT THAT'S WHAT WE'RE ADDRESSING.
>> I'LL BRING IT UP AND POINT IT OUT.
IT SAYS SOMETHING TO THE FACT OF TRANSFORMING THE DISTRICT GOING FORWARD.
>> C. COMPTON: THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THEY UNDERSTOOD.
>> I WILL POINT IT OUT SPECI SPECIFICALLY.
>> I'M GOING TO TALK ABOUT NORTHLAKE'S PARTICULAR CHALLENGES AND SUCCESSES WITH THE PERFORMANCE FUNDING, OUTCOME BASED FUNDING.
GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT METRICS ARE A CHALLENGE FOR EVERYONE.
WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO USING IT STRATEGICALLY, UNDERSTAND DIGGING DOWN INTO THE DATA AND UNDERSTANDING THE PROGRAMS, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO OUR SOMETHING THAT MARK'S DEPARTMENT IS DOING TO GET MORE STRATEGIC IT AT NORTHLAKE COURSE COMPLETIONS, INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS RECEIVING AN A, B OR C GRADE IN THE COURSE.
THAT'S IS OUR RETENTION PIECE.
AND WE NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON.
I'VE TALKED ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT ED SUCCESS.
AND THE DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE SUCCESS.
WE'VE HAD ABOUT SEVEN OR EIGHT YEARS OF INCREASE.
WHICH I THINK IS WONDERFUL, BUT WE NEED DO MORE TO HIT OUR GOAL.
THOSE ARE NORTHLAKE'S AND I'LL TURN TO IT KAY O TALK ABOUT
>> WE'LL GO AROUND LIKE LAST TIME.
AGAIN, THE CHALLENGE OF DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE COMPLETION, WHILE WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE LARGEST NUMBER OF ASSOCIATE DEGREES OBTAINED ACROSS THE SYSTEM AND 2% INCREASE OVER THE PRIOR YEAR.
WE STILL HAVE A GREAT DEAL TO ACHIEVE IN ORDER TO REACH THE SPECIFIC NUMBERS THAT ARE LAID OUT BY YEAR FOR US TO ACHIEVE TO GET TO THE 55,000.
WE'RE PLEASED THAT WE HAVE 15% INCREASE IN ETHIC MINORITY DETA DETAINMENT.
THAT IS ONE WE CONTINUE TO WORK HARD TO GREATER HEIGHTS.
COURSE COMPLETION BY FOCUS POPULATIONS MEANING THE 24-YEAR AND ABOVE.
WE'RE AT FULL EMPLOYMENT IN THIS ECONOMY.
ANYONE WHO WANTS TO WORK CAN WORK.
AND SO IT'S A MORE CHALLENGING TIME TO ATTRACT RETURNING ADULTS TO COLLEGE.
BUT THAT IS AN AREA THAT I HINK WITH OUR PARENT PROMISE LA LAUNCHING FURTHER THAT WE'LL HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO ALSO IMPACT.
ON THE SUCCESS SIDE WE ARE S SEEING INCREASES OF PERCENT.
15 HOURS, 40, TOGETHER THOSE ARE MORE THAN 10 THOUSAN,000 STUDEN PERCENTAGE WISE UP 5, 5 AND 6%.
WE CONTINUE TO WORK ON THOSE AND
[01:10:01]
PLEASED WITH WHAT WE'RE DOING.>>LY PASS ON -- I WILL PASS ON TO THOM.
A SPOTLIGHT A COUPLE OF THINGS QU QUICKLY.
WHEN YOU HAVE THE NAME THAT LENDS ITSELF TO BEING REFERRED TO BROOKHAVEN.
IT'S SUGGESTED STUDENTS COME FOR A LITTLE BIT, GET WHAT THEY NEED TO TRANSFER AND THAT HAS BEEN OUR HISTORY.
TRANSFERRING 30 HOURS IS FAR DIFFERENT THAN 15 HOURS AND MOVING ON.
THE CHALLENGE THERE IS TO R REDESIGN THE WAY WE DO ADVISING.
ENCOURAGING STUDENTS TO TAKE HE ADDITIONAL COURSES, MOVE TOWARD FULL-TIME STATUS AND SHOWING THE STATISTICS SHOWING ONCE YOU GET TO THE 9-HOUR AND 12-HOUR THRESHOLDS YOU'LL BE MORE SUCCESSFUL.
WE'RE ALREADY SEEING A GREATER INCREASE IN CREDIT HOUR, THE NUMBERS -- CREDIT HOURS BEING TA TAKEN.
THE HIGH PART-TIME STUDENT R RATIO.
OUR SUCCESSES HAVE COME IN THOSE CRITICAL FIELDS.
I MENTION THOUGHT AUTOMOTIVE HEALTH.
WHERE WE WOULD LOOK TO GROW THOSE IN THE YEARS TO COME.
I WOULD ADD TO THAT, THE PROGRAMS THAT WE ALIGNED WITH IN THE CLOLLEGIATE ACADEMIES.
WE'RE ALREADY AWARDING IN D STUDENTS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION.
THEY'RE GOING FOR AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE AND ALREADY AHEAD OF THE GAME AND THE. DEVELOP AL INCREA.
THE REDEN DESIGN OF OUR DEVELOPMENTAL MATH AN QUALITY ENHANCEMENT FOCUSED ON READING AND WHILE CLOSING THIS YEAR WE'RE VETTING THE BEST PRACTICES OF THAT AS WE GO FORWARD.
>> AS THE MICROPHONE COMES D DOWNLY SHARE THAT ONE OF OUR GREATEST CHALLENGES RELATE TO THE TIME TO COMPLETION.
THE AVERAGE STUDENTS TAKES FOUR YEARS TO COMPLETE.
65% OF THE STUDENT BODY ARE WO WOMEN.
WE LOVE AND APPRECIATE THE ADVANCE AND INDISCERNIBLE ] WE MAKE.
OUR MEN ARE FALLING WAY BEHIND.
AS A RESULT WE HAVE SEEN OR WILL CONTINUE TO SEE OPPORTUNITIES IN ALSO OUR 25 AND OLDER LOOKING AT FOCUSING ON THE WORKING ADULT PROGRAMS THAT ALIGN WITH THEIR NEED AND EXPECTATIONS.
OUR DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES ARE DOING WELL.
WE'RE NOT MOVING FAST TO THE 55,00 55,000 GOAL BUT I'M PROUD OF THE ADDITIONS TO PROGRAMS LIKE MEASURES THAT ALIGN -- THE SAD NEWS FOR US THAT ALTHOUGH THE DISTRICT AVERAGING 16% FOR OUTCOMES VALLEY COLLEGE.
WE HAVE A VESTED INTEREST MAKING SURE WE'RE CONTROVERSYING -- COVERING THESE AREAS AS IT GOES DOWN TO ONE AND ONLY
IN EL CENTRO THERE ARE TWO MAJOR CHALLENGES THAT WE HAVE.
ONE IS COURSE COMPLETION C OR BETTER.
WE ARE PLEASED THAT WE HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST THREE-YEAR PERIOD A 1 .1% POSITIVE GROWTH IN THAT AREA.
INCLUDING A 1 .1% IS NOT ANYTHIG ACCOMPLISHMENT.
I MUST MENTION THAT MANY OF OUR COMPLETION EFFORTS ARE DRIVEN BY OUR ACHIEVEMENT DREAM PROJECTS THAT WE HAVE UNDER WAY ESP ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH MEALES OUGHT TO BE ABLE TO GROW AND
[01:15:03]
EXPAND THEIR SUCCESS HERE AT THE COLLEGE.TALKING SPECIFICALLY ABOUT HISPANIC MALES AND FROM MEALS -- AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEALS AND ARE CHALLENGE TO DMONT THEIR EDUCATION.
PART OF OUR STRATEGIES INCLUDING OWN EDUCATIONAL RECORDS RESOURCES PROJECT BASED LEARNING IS ONE OF THE EFFORTS TO HELP BALANCE OUT AND HAVE STUDENTS COMPLETE WITH A C OR BETTER.
>> I DON'T KNOW IF THAT MIKE PHONE IS WORKING.
>> WE'RE NOT SATISFIED WITH THAT.
IT'S NOT GETTING US TO WHERE WE NEED TO SEE.
WE'RE SEEING A DIP IN OUR TRADITIONAL FOCUS POPULATIONS.
SO WE'RE KEEN ON INSUGAR ALL OUR EFFORT -- INSUGAR -- E DO NOT USE THE
>> IN TERMS OF OUR SEMESTER CREDIT HOURS.
OBVIOUSLY 1 .7% INCREASE IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN STAND ON GROW THAT.
AS I WAS MENTIONED EARLIER WE HAVE A MALE SUCCESS PROGRAM THAT RECENTLY BASED ON THE FIGURES.
IF AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEALS SUCCESS IN GATEWAY COURSES WITH A 10% INCREASE FROM 4 TO WITH HISPANIC MALES GATEWAY COURSES FROM OF 17 AS WELL.
THESE ARE SIGNIFICANT NUMBERS.
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT A SMALLER POPULATION OF STUDENTS BUT A SIGNIFICANT WORLD AND WE'RE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OVERALL.
PERSISTENCE POLL TO SCREEN UP 6%.
THE FIRST TIME IN COLLEGE STUDENTS WERE UP 6% IN TERMS OF PERSI PERSISTENCE.
AND THEN FULL-TIME STUDENTS WE ARE UP 9% IN TERMS OF PERSISTENCE AS WELL.
AND WITH PART-TIME STUDENTS AS ALWAYS CHALLENGED O FAR WE'RE DOWN
>> WORTH NOTING AS I MENTIONED EARLIER ITH MOVEMENT EDUCATIONAL RESOURCE THIS IMPACTING 3609 STUDENTS IN THE FALL OF '18.
SAVING STUDENTS $253,000 IN EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.
WHICH MY STAFF INDICATED IF A STUDENT WORKS AT MINIMUM AGE THEY WOULD HAVE TO WORK 26,000 HOURS AT MINIMUM WAGE TO GAIN THAT SAVINGS OF $253,000.
THAT'S SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPL ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
IN TERMS OF TREVOR FOUR -- TO FOUR YEAR.
EL CENTRO OVERALL IS DOING WELL AT 4 .6% FROM 2013 ERSUS 2017.
WE'RE PLEASED WE'RE MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH YOU GAVE US A LOT OF FIGURES.
IN TERM OF WHERE OU INAUGURATION OR VERY MINIMAL INCREASE, HAVE Y'ALL ANALYZED WHY THAT IS GOING ON AND IDENTIFIED APPROACHES TO GET YOU TO THE THE INCREASES THAT YOU WANT OR THE GROWTH THAT YOU
[01:20:01]
WANT?>> WE ARE LOOK VERY CLOSELY AT THE REASONS WHY IN THE AREA OF COMPLETION, OF C OR BETTER AND DEGREES AND CERTIFICATE OF COMPL COMPLETIONS.
SOME DEGREE WHEN WE LOOK AT DEGREES AND CERTIFICATE OF COMPLET COMPLETIONS.
WE ARE CONSIDERING THE IMPACT OF COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS AND DUAL CR CREDIT.
DUAL CREDIT STUDENTS ARE TAKING ADDITIONAL COURSES.
THEY ARE NOT TAKING PRODUCT BEING A CERTIFICATE OF DE DEGREE.
I THINK THAT IMPACTS THE OVERALL COM COMPLETION.
THE FACT WE'RE NOT BRINGIG IN O OUR TRADITIONAL COLLEGE FOR FOSSE FAY.
SO THEY DO NOT ACCOUNT FOR NUMBERS.
THAT BEING SAID, IN TERMS OF INSTRUCTION I THINK KINDS OF EFFORTS I HAD MENTIONED BEFORE FOCUSING ON WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE STUDENT IN THE CLASSROOM, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR FOLATETY AND FOCUS ON -- FOCUSING ON TEACHING AND LE LEARNING THAT WILL BEAR FRUIT
>>>> CHAIR D. FLORES: THANK YOU.
IN EASTFIELD SIMILAR TO MY COLLEAGUES, WE ARE STILL LACKING IN THE DEGREES AND CERTIFICATES IN THEIR COMPLETION.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS, I THINK UNIQUE TO US AND I THINK IT IMPACTS OUR OTHER COLLEGES AT VARIOUS TIMES IS IN 2015, 2014, 2015 BUT THE FISCAL YEAR 2015, WE DID A MAJOR EFFORT TO DO AUTO GRAD GRADUATION.
WE WENT IN AND RESEARCHED STUDENTS WHO AD THE CREDITS BUT HAD NEVER GRADUATED.
WE INCREASED THAT NUMBER FAIRLY SIGNI SIGNIFICANTLY.
BUT OVER A THREE-YEAR TREND IT MAKES US LOOK LIKE WE HAVE LOS.
BECAUSE WE HAVE THAT BIG BUMP.
SO WHILE IT IS NOT WHERE IT NEEDS TO BE, IT LOOKS A LITTLE BIT SKEWED BECAUSE OF THE BIG BUMP IN 2014-22014-2015.
THE TWO THAT ARE THERE ARE RELATED.
THE SENDCOND ONE NOT HITTING THE SEMESTER CREDIT HOUR MILESTONES.
THEY'RE NOT HITTING THE 15, 30 AND 42-HOUR MILESTONES THEY'RE NOT LIKELY GETTING TO A DEGREE OR CERTIFICATE.
SO WE NEED TO WORK WITH OUR FIRST-TIME IN COLLEGE STUDENTS.
HOPEFULLY THE EIGHT-WEEK SEMESTERS WILL HELP.
WE HAVE A NUMBER OF STUDENTS WHO SAID TO US, I'VE NEVER TAKEN MORE THAN TWO CLASSES AT A TIME AND NOW I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TAKE THREE OR FOUR.
SO WE ARE HOPING THAT THAT WILL HELP THAT HAPPEN.
I MENTIONED ALREADY OUR DEVELOPMENTAL ED SUCCESS AND MATH.
WE ARE HAVING A SIMILAR SUCCESS IN DEVELOPMENTAL ENGLISH.
READING AND WRITING THE CO-RECK S IS IT -- CORECK IS IT MODEL.
IT'S REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF TIMETHY HAVE TO SPEND THIS DEVELOPMENT STUDYIES AND AT OUR3
[01:26:18]
WITH THE PATHWAYS IT'S GOING TO HELP AND CONNECT US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FURTHER.SO THAT WE CAN CALCULATOR THOSE COMPLETIONS, THOSE TRANSFER RATES AND SO FORTH BECAUSE NOW WE'RE REALLY INTENTIONALLY WORKED WITH STUDENTS FROM THE BEGINNING.
TO THE IME THAT THEY GRADUATE.
SO THOSE ARE REALLY BIG PIECES FOR US.
OUR DATA IS CONTINUING TO GO IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
BUT QUITE FRANKLY THERE'S SO MUCH MORE WORK WE NEED TO DO.
>> I WAS JUST WONDERING, DO Y'ALL HAVE CENTERS FOR FOLKS? WHEN YOU ENROLL SOMEONE INTO THE PLACEMENT CENTER DO YOU SHOW THEM WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR G GIVING JOBS? LOTS OF TIMES IT SEEMS LIKE THE DEVELOPMENTAL INFORMATION.
YOU TAKE IT ALONG WITH THE OTHER COURSE THAT ALSO MATES WITH THAT.
IN A THINKING MIND IT'S LIKE, Y YEAH.
IT'S LIKE LEARNING HIS AND IT FITS HERE.
LOOKING AT WHAT A PLACEMENT OFFICE WOULD OFFER, JUST THE IDEA THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO HAVE THE COMPANY NAME OR ANYTHING.
THE IDEA OF WHAT NOT EVERYBODY WANTS FIVE YEARS EXPERIENCE.
IF YOU HAVE THE LIST OF WHAT EVERYONE'S LOOKING FOR, BUT YOU'VE GOT N ASSOCIATES DEGREE AT THE BEGINNING, LOTS OF TIMES IT'S EASY TO SEE WITHOUT AN ASSOCIATES DEGREE, THEY DON'T FIT EVEN THE MINIMUM REQU REQUIREMENT.
SO IT GIVES THEM THE IDEA THAT AN ASSOCIATES AND THE SOONER YOU GET AN ASSOCIATES IS SOON YOU CAN GET THIS JOB WITH THIS DOLLAR AMOUNT.
SO LOTS OF TIMES I THINK IN SO MANY TIMES I THINK YOU'RE NOT QUALIFIED FOR THIS.
AND NO, YOU DON'T QUALIFY FOR THAT.
BUT IF YOU GAVE TO IT THEM TO LOOK THROUGH, I THINK IT WOULD MAKE A BETTER SENSE FOR THEM TO LOOK AND SAY, OH, IF I ONLY HAD THAT, I COULD DO THAT.
IF ONLY I HAD THAT, I COULD DO THIS.
INSTEAD OF SIMPLY AYING I'M JUST NOT QUALIFIED.
>> WE HAVE SOFTWARE IN CAREER CENTERS THAT SHOW WHERE THEY CAN GO THROUGH AND SEE WHAT THE AVERAGE SALARY IS.
WHAT THE DEGREE REQUIREMENT IS FOR THE VARIOUS AREAS.
>> IS THAT SAYING SOMETHING THAT AT A CAMPUS THEY COULD SIT DOWN WITH SOMEONE?
>> WE BUILT THAT WITHOUT THE ENTIRE DISTRICT SO THAT EVERYBODY IS WORKING ON THE SAME DASHBOARD AND LOOKING AT THAT PERSP PERSPECTIVE.
>> WE HAVE GIVEN EMPLOYERS IN THE AREA LOOKING WITH US?
YOU LOOK AT THE PAGE YOU SEE AT THE BOTTOM IT HAS THE EMPLOYERS HIRING IN THESE FIELDS AND THE SAL SALARIES.
>> HAVE CAREER PLACEMENT OFFICES AS WELL.
WHERE WE ARE LOOKING FOR A JOB.
WE CONNECT THEM WITH EMPLOYERS AS WELL.
AND ALL OF THAT INFORMATION IS MADE AVAILABLE AS WELL.
IN ADDITION, IN THE PLACEMENT OFFICES OR THE INITIAL INPUT THAT STUDENTS HAVE WHEN THEY ARRIVE ON CAMPUS BESIDE TESTING, THEY CAN ALSO DO A SKILLS SOFTWARE EVALUATION TO DETERMINE WHERE IS THEIR PROFICIENCY, AFFINITY AND WHICH AREAS, THEY WOULD WORK BEST IN TERMS OF THE
[01:30:01]
>> TRUSTEE ZIMMERMANN WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE LINK TO THAT INFORMATION THAT THE CHANCELLOR REFERRED TO
>> IT SHOWS OUT THE DIFFERENT DEGREES WHAT THE JOBS ARE.
WHICH COMPANIES LOCALLY ARE HIRING AND THE SALARY.
>>S WE HAD A PRESENTATION ON THAT A COUPLE YEARS BACK BUT --
>> I THINK -- IT WAS -- WE HAVEN'T DONE IT SINCE IT WAS LA LAUNCHED.
I THINK WE WERE TALKING ABOUT IT A THAT TIME.
>> IT DIDN'T INCLUDE THE LA LAWYERS.
>> AT THE TOP OF THE PERFORMANCE IT'S BEEN A YEAR SINCE LESS IGNORANT TRUSTEE EXPLAIN SOME OF THE NUANCES BETWEEN STATE BASED PERFORMANCE FUNDIG AND HOW WE DO AT THE DISTRICT.
THE POINT I REMEMBER FROM THAT CONVERSATION WE GOT A LOT OF DISCRETION IN TERMS AH HUH WE DO OUR LOCAL -- HOW E TO OUR LOCAL PERFORMANCE BASED FUNDING.
I LOOK AT THE COLLECTIVE PRESENTATIONS, AND BY THE WAY THE COLLECTIVE PRESENTATION IS OP.
BIT SEEMS LIKE THERE'S -- THERE ARE THINGS THAT ARE BEING DONE COLLABORATIVELY ACROSS THE COLLEGES WITHIN THE SYSTEM THAT ARE HAVING A TRANSFORMATIVE IM IMPACT.
THE THINGS YOU'RE DOING TO TOGETHER, WORKING TOGETHER.
AND WHAT WE EXPECT IN THE FUTURE AND SOME OF THE THINGS WE ARE BING TO -- BEGINNING TO ROLL OUT AND THE PRO PROGRAMS. AND I'M WONDERING WHETHER, SO THERE'S THIS COMMON BOOST THAT WE GET FROM COLLEGES WORKING TOGETHER AT THE SYSTEM LEVEL.
I'M ALSO STRUCK BY SOME OF THE UNIQUE NUANCES THAT EACH OF YOU ARE DEALING WITH ON YOUR CAMPUS.
JOE, WHAT YOU GUYS DESCRIBED IN MATERIAL OF THE CHARACTERISTICS AND HOW PERHAPS OUR BLUNT FORCE GRID OF, YOU KNOW, HERE SEVEN CAMPUSES AND THE READY TO MOVE BEYOND THAT AND CREATE SOME PERFORMANCE INCENTIVES FOR NETWORK ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT WOULD FLOW INTO THE SYSTEM.
BUT ALSO CREATE SOME OPPORTUNITY FOR EACH CAMPUS TO TAILOR PERFORMANCE RECOGNIZING THAT EACH OF YOU ARE DOING UNIQUE THINGS AND HAVE UNIQUE CHANGES -- CHALLENGES IN THE COMMUNITIES WHERE YOU WORK.
THERE MIGHT BE A WAY TO CREATE MORE INCENTIVES AND REWARD AND ALIGNMENT BETWEEN HOW KE DO OUR LOCAL COMPONENT OF OUR PERFORMANCE FINDING AND THE NETWORK MODEL.
I DON'T KNOW WHETHER YOU WOULD AGREE WITH THAT OR NOT OR MAKES SENSE OR NOT.
IT'S GREAT WE HAVE PERFORMANCE METRICS, BUT IS IT ONE-SIZE FIT ALL? EACH CAMPUS ACCOUNTABLE FOR HIS CA CAMPUS.
IS THAT SOMETHING WE NEED TO BE DOING IN THE NETWORK MODEL?
>> FOR THESE AREAS IT WOULD BE, RIGHT? IN TERM OF THE INDIVIDUAL C CAM CAMPUSES.
>> FOR THE MOST PART THEY APPLY FAIRLY UNIVERSALLY ALL RTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME -- WE ADDED THE GAIN DOES NOT INCLUDE THAT IN THEIR MET AR METRICS.
EACH INSTITUTION HAS A DIFFERENT SET OF CHALLENGES PARTICULARLY AS IT RELATES TO THAT.
SO I THINK WITHIN IT OU'VE ALREADY HEARD THIS THAT ONE COLLEGE MAY HAVE ADDRESSED BETTER THAN ANOTHER CERTAIN PA ASPECTS OR MAYBE IT'S THE LUCK OF THE DRAW.
REALLY HONING IN ON THOSE PROBLEM AREAS.
I ETHNTHINK THAT'S SOMETHING WE CONTINUE TO DO.
>> ONE THING ABOUT THIS SLIDE TO IS SOME OF THE COLLEGES CHALLENGES ARE SOME OF THE OTHER COLLEGE'S SUCCESSES.
>> THAT IN CERTAIN AREAS THE DRAW TO THESE COLLEGES ARE GOING TO BE IN A HIGHER RISK OF LIKELY TO FAIL THAN SOMEWHERE ELSE.
WE'RE ALL SERVING SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE INTERESTING TO TAKE IT -- AKE INTO ACCOUNT AND LOOK AT THAT.
IT JUST COSTS MORE WHEN YOU'RE WORKING WITH THOSE COMING OUT OF AN COMICICALLY DISADVANTAGED BACK BACKGROUND.
YOU'RE LISTENING BUT WHAT IS NOT ALWAYS BEING SAID HERE, WE'RE HAVING TO HIRE EXTRA PEOPLE BECAUSE THE ABILITY TO GET THIS THROUGH THAT FIRST COURSE IS MORE EXPENSIEXPENSIVE.
AND TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN UNDER THE CORECK SET.
[01:35:02]
WELL TO DO.>> THAT'S AN INTERESTING POINT BECAUSE ISN'T HAT WHAT THE T.
E. A. HAS DONE IN TERMS OF G GRADING A THROUGH F ACCOUNTS AS THE VARIABLES IN REGARDS TO THE STUDENT BODY.
THE POSSIBLE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER ET CETERA, THAT HAS BEEN FACTORING INTO THE GRADEING SYSTEM.
MAY BE THAT'S AN ISSUE TO PUSH TO THE LEGISLATURE IN TERMIS OF PERFORMANCE METRICS.
>> THEY WEIGHT THEM BUT IT DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT RISK.
THE REALITY IS EVEN SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS REGISTRATION -- REQUIRES YOU GET MUCH MORE ENGAGED EARLIER ON WITH ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STU STUDENTS.
SO YOU'RE NUMBER OF PEOPLE -- ACTUALLY HAVE TO GO INTO THE SCHOOL.
BECAUSE TOO MANY SIMPLY WON'T COME HERE.
AND HAT IS INVERSE TO THE ECONOMICS OF THE FAMILY.
>> SO I'M PLEASED TO RAILROAD TRACK THERE ARE -- PLEASED TO REPORT THERE ARE NO MANY SLIDES.
>> SOME OF YOU WENT OVER THAT TIME.
>> I TRUSTED PROVIDED A TRANSITION FOR US AND WE'RE GOING TO TALK ABOUT ADVANCING THE NETWORKS.
COMMUNICATIONS ARE RELATED TO THAT AND THEN PARTNERSHIPS, THE EXTENDED RELATIONSHIPS CREATING THAT NETWORK.
BEEN MORE SYMBOLIC WHAT WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT SO FAR.
SO I'LL HIT SOME HIGHLIGHTS ON SLIDE 11.
I'M NOT GOING TO GO THROUGH EACH ONE OF THESE BULLETS ONE BY ONE BECAUSE OFF FAMILIARITY OF THE WAY WE WORK.
YOU'VE SEEN INDIVIDUALS AROUND THE TABLE AND COLLEAGUES FRONT YOU ACCOUNTABILITY LEAD FOR THE MAJOR INITIATIVES THAT WE'RE UNDER TAKING.
DURN ON THE CURRENT TECHNICAL PROGRAM REVIEW.
BRINGING THAT CONSISTENCY ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
THREE PRESIDENTS, TAKES THREE ACCOUNTABILITY LEADS EDUCATIONAL POLICY.
MARK HEYS IS THE LEAD ON PL ARK.
I SAT HERE WITH COLLEAGUES FROM DI SD AS WE CAME IN CONCEPTUALLY AND REPORTING THE METRICS ON THE TALKED ABOUT THE HR MODEL.
THAT IS A DIFFERENT WAY OF BEHAVIOR, IF YOU WILL.
IF I USE THAT WORD FOR THE WAY WE WORK TOGETHER.
WHERE ELSE IN THE STYLITE OR -- STATE OR COUNTRY DO SEVEN PRESIDENTS COME TOGETHER AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH? A STRATEGIC PLANNING AND SHARING THE SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES AND LOOKING FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES TO SCALE THOSE UP AND BRING TOTE THOSE TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS.
WE'VE GOT A LONG LEGACY OF BEING COMPREHENSIVE COLLEGES AND ORGANIZATIONALLY STRUCTURED THAT WAY.
WE HAVE TO RETHINK THAT AS WE GO FORWARD.
ON EVERY ONE OF OUR SEVEN COLLEGES.
AS POSITIONS COME OPEN NEW 3 RESOURCE FOR NEW POSITION COME TO US.
WE HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON AND LOOK AT, DO WE NEED THAT POSITION AS IS OR HIRE WHERE WORE GOING AS TO OH -- WHERE WE'RE GOING AS TO WHERE WE'VE BEEN.
YOU SEE THER THINGS ON THE SLIDE AS WE OPERATE ACROSS THE SYSTEMS. OUR VICE PRESIDENT OF DACA
ACADEMIC>> S. WILLIAMS: OF STUDENT AFFAIRS.
>> CAN'T DO THAT IN THE SEVEN STRATIFIED WAYS BUT GOT TO BRING BACK THE CON SEN US, THE LE LEARNING OF THAT BACK TO THE COL COLLEGES.
AND OUR LEADERSHIP THAT HOLDS THAT TOGETHER AGAIN WITH THE CHANCELLOR'S STAFF AS WELL.
WE HAND OFF PROJECTS TO EACH OTHER.
EVERYONE AT THIS TABLE HAS TO HAVE A LEAD IN THE COMMUNITY, A INDUSTRY OR PARTNER COMES AND SAWS CAN YOU THIS.
A FEW YEARS AGO MY FIRST THOUGHT WEB BROOK HAVEN DOESN'T DO THAT AND NOW WHO DOES THAT SO WE CAN CLOSE THE DEAL.
YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT WE'VE DONE TO UNIFY SOME OF UR APP RATIONS AND STRENGTH IN THE POLICE OPERATIONS ELEMENT OF A CONSISTENT STUDENT EXPERIENCE.
SO WHERE ARE WE CHALLENGED? MANAGING AND LEADING THAT CHANGE.
NOT EVERYBODY COMES INTO IT FROM THE SAME PLACE.
Y'ALL DRANK THE KOOLAID BUT SPEAKING TO THE THE INCENTIVES FOR EXAMPLE.
THE GREATEST INCENTIVES ARE WHAT WE'RE SEEING ON THE OUTCOMES AS SFAPT AS THEY ARE ARE STUDENTS ON TRACK NOW 90% OF THEM RETAIN
[01:40:01]
FROM THAT FRESHMAN YEAR THEY ARE THE JUNIORS AS YOU HEARD ON OUR CAM CAMPUSES.IF THAT STAYS UP, THAT'S A SUSTA SUSTAINABLE.
FUNDING AH -- AT THE STATE LEVEL INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERS FOUNDATIONS ARE GOING TO COME BEHIND US LIKE NEVER BEFORE I DON'T THINK WE THINK ON THE DAY-TO-DAY BASIS HOW WE'RE GOING DO THIS.
WE SEE ALREADY THE THINGS WE'RE GOING TO DO ON A LARGE SCALE LIKE THIS MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
AS INDIVIDUALS COME INTO IT, TEAMS COME INTO IT AS PEOPLE COME TO THE TABLE IN THE PLANNING,WISE REDEFINE HOW WE DO THAT.
IT'S NOT ABOUT A TASK FORCE OR BLUE RIBBON GROUP.
IT'S WHO IS GOING TO DO THIS TO AT THE SAME PLACE AND THE SAME TIME.
THAT'S CHANGED THE WAY WE WORK TOG TOGETHER.
THAT'S WHERE WE SEE THE FUVENGS AS A GROUP HERE.
YOU'RE SEEING THAT -- YOU'LL 3 HEAR ABOUT THAT IN A MOMENT.
PENETRATING THE LEADERSHIP TEAMS AND OTHERS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
WE HAVE TO WORK ON THIS PTOGETHR AS WE CARRY THE BEST OF WHO WE'VE BEEN FORWARD EVEN AS WE INVOLVE INTO SOMETHING BETTER.
>> ON THAT THURSDAY BULLET UNDER SUCCESSES, THE CONVENINGS.
SO HERE'S WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT COMING TOGETHER AS GROUPS
>> BECAUSE BEFORE THEY WERE COU COUNCILS.
SO DO WE STILL HAVE VPI COUNCIL? THE VPSD COUNCIL? THE REGISTRARS COUNCIL?
>> WE HAVE MANY OF THOSE IN PLACE AND CHARTERED IN VARIOUS AWAY.
IT'S THE WAY THE INTERFACE HAPPEN GROSSES THOSE NOW.
THERE PEOPLE WHO DON'T THINK TWICE ABOUT REACHING ACROSS AND THROUGH TO REACH THE RIGHT PEOPLE.
IF WE BUILT THE EACH ONE OF THE COUNCILS ONE AT A TIME WAITING FOR A MONTHLY MEETING.
YOU CAN FILL IN THE REST OF THE STORY.
WE MIGHT BE FILLING -- STARTING THIS FALL.
AND WE COMING QUICKLY TO AGREEMENT, GET WHO YOU NEED TO GET TO HERE WE'RE GOING.
SO WHILE WE DO STILL HAVE THOSE, A LOT OF THE TIMES WE JUST TAKE SOMETHING AND RUN WITH IT.
WHEN YOU GOT TO LEAD, YOU KNOW WHO TO TURN TO FOR THAT.
YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU ARE IN TERMS OF THE PROJECT MATCH.
>> SO YOU'RE TELLING ME, BECAUSE THAT BRINGS TO MIND SOMETHING ELSE WHICH I'LL SCHUSS THE CLANS LORE.
YOU'RE TELLING ME YOU DON'T HAVE TO TAKE IT THROUGH THE COUNCIL STRUCTURE FIRST, EVEN THOUGH, LET'S SAY SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN PRESENTED, BUT OLD IT HAS TO GO BACK TO THE COUNCIL LEVEL BEFORE IT COMES BACK UP AGAIN.
>> NOT EVERYONE ISSING DEPENDENT ON SOMETHING THAT IS FLOW CH CHARTED THAT MIGHT BE FAMILIAR FROM ANOTHER TIME.
I'LL JUST PICK THE ONE I KNOW BEST AND BE BRIEF ABOUT IT.
WE QUICKLY IDENTIFIED WITH DISD AND WITHIN THE DO YOU DO THE KINDS OF ROLE -- THE DCCCD THE KINDS OF ROLE PLAYERS THAT NEED TO BE IN THE ROOM.
IT STARTED AREOUND 30 AND 40 AN WE RECOGNIZED WE NEED SOMEBODY 3 FROM MARKETING AND COMMU COMMUN COMMUNICATIONS.
A FACULTY MEMBER THERE REPRESENTING THE FALL CULL FOP IT VARIOUS FROM ISSUE TO - VARIES FROM ISSUE TO ISSUE.
WE'RE MAKING SURE THERE'S REPRES REPRESENTATION.
IF SOMEONE WANTS TO THROW IN A AMONG II WRENCH -- MONKEY REVENLG ALL STLA TO DO IS SAY IT DIDN'T GO THROUGH THE COUNCIL.
DURN THEY THROW IN AND SAY IT DIDN'T GO THROUGH THE COUNCIL.
I WOULD NOT SAY IT'S -- IN EACH CASE WHAT WE'VE DONE IS DEFINED.
WHAT WE GO IN TO N TERMS OF THE TIMING AND THE DESIRED OUTCOME.
KNOWING THAT WAE WERE GOING TO N TWO YEARS LAUNCH 19 10 -- 9 IN THE FIRST YEAR 10 IN THE SECOND.
BY WHEN? WHEN WAS THAT GOING TO HAPPEN? THAT WAS A VERY CLEAR.
IF WE HAD SAID IT'S GOING TO NEED TO PASS THROUGH CERTAIN PHASES, THAT WOULD HAVE EL ELONGATED THE PROCESS.
FOCUSING ON THE OUTCOME AND WORKING BACK FROM THAT AND DEFINING WHO NEEDS TO BE THERE AND EVERYBODY WORKS FROM THAT TEMPLATE, THAT GAME PLAN.
WHETHER IT'S CALLED SOMETHING OR NOT, WE HAVE THE DISD DCCCD JOIN GROUP THAT MEETS EVERY MONTH.
WE HAVE MINUTES THAT ARE SHARED AND CARRIED FORWARD.
YOU CAN'T REALLY THROW A MONKEY WRENCH WHEN CROW HAVE THAT TRANSPARENTCY
>> WHAT I THINK HAS TO BE BUY IN ON THE CAMPUSES AND SITUATIONAL
[01:45:02]
AWARENESS OF WHAT CHALLENGES ARE AND MAY BE.>> I WOULD SAY EVEN IF WE ELECTRIC TO GO -- ELECT TO GO A DIFFERENT ROUTE THEY'VE BEEN LISTENED TO AND HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY.
>> I THINK THAT'S -- THAT CAUSES US PROBLEMS. IT'S GOOD THAT IN THIS CASE IT REALLY WORKED.
BUT I KNOW OF A SITUATION WHERE IT DIDN'T WORK.
IF TLHERE'S NO PROCESS DEFINED AND IF SOMEONE WANTS TO THROW A WRENCH THEY CAN'T.BECAUSE -- - THAT'S CONVERSATION I'LL HAVE WITH YOU AND EVC, LANA AFTER THIS.
ONE OF MY -- THAT'S AN INTERESTING THING THAT POPPED UP.
THAT'S -- I WASN'T SPECIFICALLY LOOKING FOR THAT.
BUT A FOLLOW UP TO THAT QUESTION IS, ON THESE NETWORK OPERATIONS ET CETERA, A CONCERN YOU'VE GOT A CHALLENGE DOWN THERE.
A CONCERN IS, SINCE WE'RE IN THIS PROCESS OF CHANGE AND TRANCE PORE NATION - TRANSFORMATION ON MANY LEVELS THROUGHOUT THE INSTITUTION.
HOW IS THAT GETTING COMMUNICATED DOWN ALL LEVELS OF THE ORGANIZATION SO HOPEFULLY IT WILL ADDRESS THE NERVOUSNESS, POLICY OF THE CHANGE MANAGEMENT ISSUES AT ALL LEVELS OF THE ACCO ORGANIZATION.
HOW ARE THESE MAJOR TRANSFORMATIONS AND CHALLENGES BEING ARIDED DOWN TO ALL LEVELS.
>> ONE OF MY PEERS WILL STPEAK O THAT ON SLIDE 13.
>> ANY QUESTIONS ON THE NEXT SLIDE? THANK YOU.
>> SO I WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ADVANCING THE NETWORKS RELATED TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION.
SOME OF THE COMMITTED ACTIONS THAT WE HAVE AS A NETWORK FOR THIS AREA OF DIVERSITY EQUITY AND INCLUSION.
WE HAVE CERTAINLY IN SUPPORTING AND PARTICIPATING IN THE NEW FACULTY BOOT CAMP, THERE'S A PICTURE HERE OF ONE OF UR GROUPS THAT WERE IN THE BOOT CAMP RECENTLY AND TIT WAS M MENTIONED THAT HE PEOPLE DID NOT EVEN WEAR NAME TAGS THAT WERE SPECIFIC TO THEIR COLLEGE.
WHILE THAT IS NOT SPECIFICALLY ABOUT DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION.
IT HELPS TO FOCUS ON THE WHOLE IDEA THAT AS A NETWORK WE ARE LOOK AT US AS A WHOLE AND NOT AS INDIVIDUAL COLLEGES.
AS WE LOOK AT THE DIVERSITY OF OUR NEW FACULTY.
IN IMPLEMENTING THE VERSION, AS YOU KNOW IT GOT SORT OF REIMPLEMENTED AND WE ARE REFOCUSING ON BEING ABLE TO BRING IN QUALIFIED FACULTY WHO PERHAPS DO NOT HAVE ALL THE YEARS OF TEACHING THAT ARE TYPICALLY RAEQUIRED SO WE CAN SPEND TWO YEARS WITH MENTORING, COACHING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WITH THEM.
SO THAT IT ALLOWS US TO DIVERSIFY BETTER BECAUSE WE'RE ABLE TO GO OUTSIDE THE REQUIRED NUMBER OF YEARS OF TEACHING AND DO OUR OWN TRAINING OPPORTUNITY.
THIS NEXT YEAR WE'LL BE HOSTING THE ANNUAL MINORITY SERVING CONSTITUTION NATIONAL --
[01:50:23]
INSTITUTION.>> SO PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT AND OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION.
WE ARE ALSO COMMITTED TO A DIVERSITY EQUITY INCLUSION D DWR DRIVEN SEARCH PROCESS.
SO OUR SEARCH COMMITTEES ARE DIVERSE SO THAT WE WORK INTENTIONALLY TO DIVERSIFY OUR WORKFORCE STAND EMPLOYEE -- AND THE EMPLOYEE GROUPS.
WE'RE HOSTED WORLD CAFE OUR MINORITY MALE INITIATIVES AT ALL OUR COLLEGES AND WE HAVE A SUM IT TO BRING THEM TOGETHER TO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER.
AND YOU'RE PROBABLY AWARE THAT WE ARE ALSO SUPPORTING THE H HIRING OF A DCCCD CHIEF DIV DIVERSITY OFFICER TO HELP COORDINATE AND BRING ALL THESE AREAS TOGETHER AND NOT HAVE THEM JUST INDIVIDUAL COLLEGE EFFORTS BUT TO BE COORDINATED ON A NETWORK BA BASIS.
>> I'M HAPPY TO THINK THEY ARE OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE I'M IN ONE OF THOSE PICTURES.
>> SO THE GUY ON OUR RIGHT, THAT'S MR. RODNEY TAILOR.
AN INCOMING FALL CULTY MEMBER F OUR DIESEL PROGRAM.
DR. RUBIN JOHNSON EXECUTIVE DEAN FOR BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY.
NEXT TO HIM KEVIN WEST OUR NEW QEMM MIST.
AND TESSA PSYCHOLOGY INSTRUCTOR.
NEXT TO HER IS MR. JOHN TAYLOR WHO IS AN ART FACULTY MEMBER AND MRS. ED LINDSEY BARLOW JOINING OUR ENGLISH FACULTY AND THEN MRS. NUBBING CAN I SEIZURE -- NICKY SEIZURE AND WHO IS MISSING FROM THIS IS MR. DRAKE HO SIN COMING LOGISTIC INSTRUCTOR AND THAT YOUNG GUY ON THE FAR, FAR RIGHT THAT YOU MISTAKED AS A STUDENT, THALTS ME.
>> MY QUESTION IS, SOMEONE LOOK AT THIS SLIDE TYKING ABOUT DIV DIVERSITY.
IT'S 75% BLACK, 12% WHITE AND 12% HIS SPANSIC.
HOW DO YOU GET THAT ACROSS TO THE -- IF I LOOKING THAT THE FOR THE FIRST TIME, WISH DIVERSITY HADN'T BEEN ON THERE.
>> IT'S NOT EQUITY INCLUSION EITHER.
IT'S -- THIS SLIDE IS DIVERSITY TITLED DIVERSITY EQUITY AND INCLUSION.
>> AT CEDAR VALLEY COLLEGE WHERE WE DON'T HAVE A HISTORY OF H HIRING AFRICAN-AMERICAN MEN ON OUR FACULTY AND WE'VE DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB MAKING SURE E RECRUIT PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT PHYSICALLY DIE ST VERSE -- DIVERSE BUT COME FROM DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS I WOULD RESPECTFULLY CHALLENGE YOU TO SAY A PICTURE DOESN'T ALWAYS TELL A WHOLE STORY.
>> AND OUR PERSPECTIVE WE'RE PROUD OF THIS PARTICULAR CLASS BECAUSE OF THE DIVERSITY THEY BRING AH US.
>> MENTION CEDAR VALUE LOIN HERE SOMEWHERE CEDAR VALLEY HERE?
>> CEDAR VALLEY FACULTY WHO WENT TO THE BOOT CAMP.
>> AND MANY OF OUR CAMPUSES DO NOT HAVE A HISTORY OF HIRING HISP HISPANICS.
WE'RE UNDER REPRESENTED IN THAT AREA.
I'M VERY CONCERNED WHILE ON THE ONE HAND IT'S VERY GOOD.
ON THE OTHER I'M CONCERNED THERE'S A POSSIBLY EXCLUSION BUT LOOKING AT THE PICTURE.
I WAS PRESENTLY SPRURPRISED TO E A LOT OF LATINO STUDENTS.
I WAS NOT SURPRISED TO SEE THE MAKE UP OF YOUR FACULTY AND
[01:55:01]
STAFF AND I'M CONCERNED AT ANY OF THE COLLEGES WHERE IT TRENDS MORE HEAVILY FOR ONE GROUP THAN THE OTHER.BECAUSE THAT'S NOT WHAT WE ARE.
BUT IT DOES NOT SEEM AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL THERE'S AN EMPHASIS ON BEING TOTALLY INCL INCLUSIVE.
THERE MIGHT BE EMPHASIS ON ONE GROUP OR THE OTHER AND THAT'S NOT HEALTHY FOR THIS INSTITUTION.
BECAUSE THIS INSTITUTION EITHER AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL OR THE SYSTEM LEVEL, DOES NOT REPRESENT A COUNTY WHOSE CONSTITUENTS HEAVY WILL YOU ONE GROUP OR ANO ANOTHER.
AND THIS WILL NOT GET US THERE.
>> WHAT -- ANY OTHER COMMENTS ON THIS? SLIDE? IF NOT WE'LL MOVE ON.
>> BRIEFLY WE WILL TALK ABOUT COMMUN COMMUNICATION.
THIS WAS SOMETHING THAT CAME UP.
THE VARIOUS WAY WES COMMUNITY ABOUT THE NETWORK AND IN A NETWORK FASHION.
CERTAINLY ALL OF OUR COLLEGE CONVOCATIONS, WE ALL TALK ABOUT THE NETWORK.
WE TALK TO OUR EMPLOYEES ABOUT WAYS THIS WE CAN FURTHER THE ENCOURAGE THEM TO PARTNER WITH THEIR COLLEAGUES ACROSS THE DRI DISTRICT, ACROSS THE NETWORK.
WE GIVE A STATE OF THE COLLEGE THAT ALSO DLAUS CONFERENCE DAY WHICH WE JUST HAD AND DR. MAY TALKED ABOUT THE NETWORK AND THE COLLEGE AT THAT POINT.
WE ALSO AWL HAVE MESSAGES FROM THE PRESIDENT.
TO ENCOURAGE, AGAIN, LOOKING ACROSS THE NETWORK.
'S EXECUTIVE MEETS AND IS INCLUSIVE AS WE CAN BE WITH BRINGING IN MEMBERS TO THAT EXECUTIVE LEVEL OF THE VARIOUS EMPLOYEE GROUPS AS REPRESENTATIVES AS WELL AS STU STUDENTS.
WE'RE SURE HEARING DIVERSE OPI OPINIONS.
WITH THE JOINT COUNCILS THAT MY COLLEAGUE THOM TALKED ABOUT ALLOW US TO TALK MORE ABOUT NETWORK PHILOSOPHY.
OUR ANNUAL GOAL SETTING AND ACCOUNTABILITY ALL THE WAY UP AND DOWN THE LINE IS GEARED TOWARDS THE BOARD'S GOALS.
COLLEGE GOALS>> YOU ALL KNOW THE STORY BETTER THAN MOST.
>> SO WE HAVE A TREMENDOUS OPPORTUNITY AND RESPONSIBILITY.
YOU HEARD FROM US ABOUT THE OUTCOME BASED FUNDING.
AS YOU LOOK AT THE GRADUATION RATE.
THE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION RATE THAT 07% WE HAVE A WAYS TO GO.
PROGRAMS LIKE ALL OF OUR COLLEGES HAVE CONTRIBUTED MAJORLY TO KEEPING THAT PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY GOING.
WE HAVE TO ENGAGE THOSE 78 GRADUATES AND MEANINGFUL WAYS IN THE THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
THAT WAS PROMISING DOING THAT.
THE BACHELOR'S DEGREE 30%, THAT'S WHY OUR TRANSFER MATRIX IS SO IMPORTANT.
TO MAKE SURE WHAT IS GETTING INSTITUTION OF THEIR CHOICE.

PEOPLE LIVING IN POSITIVITY IS OUR MAIN KCONCERN.
YOU WANT TO LET YOU KNOW STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.

CORPORATE TRAINING APPROACH WHICH WE ARE ALL INVESTED IN.
OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION, THINK I'M VERY PROUD OF WE HAVE ALL WORKED DULL GENTLY TO -- DILIGENTLY TO CONTRIBUTE TO OUR FAIR SHARE AND MORE OF FUNDING TO MAKE SURE FOLKS IN OUR REGION WANTS JOB, GET A JOB, AND THE SKILLS TO DO SO.
ARE ABSOLUTELY A GAME CHANGING INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENTS THAT WE ARE ALL PROUD TO BE A PART OF.

WE'LL BE HERE TO ANSWER ANYTHING.
>> I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK TO SLIDE 13 AND TALK A LITTLE MORE ABOUT COMMUNICATION.
WHERE ON HERE ARE WE INVOLVING THE FACULTY ORGANIZATION PROFESSIONAL STAFF ORGAN ORGANIZATIONS.
THE PEOPLE WHO MAY HAVE A CONCERN OR FEEL TENTATIVE ABOUT SOME OF THESE CHANGES THAT ARE OCCURRING AROUND THEM WITHOUT A LOT OF CLARITY AS TO WHAT THE BIG PICTURE IS? WHERE THE SALES COMES INTO PLAY TO SAY, THEIR MAY BE A LITTLE HEART BURN BUT IN THE BIG PICTURE AND OVERALL ACCOMPLISHMENT OF WHERE WE'RE HEADED IS GOING TO BE A POSITIVE RESULT.
WHERE IS THAT TAKING PLACE HERE?
>> IF I MAY, TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, CEDAR VALLEY HAD THIS PROBLEM WHICH YOU JUST DES DESCRIBED.
I'M TOLD, I HAVE SOME WEB SITES HERE -- WITNESSES HERE.
I'M TOLD N COMPLICATION DAY WE PUT TOGETHER A PRESENTATION CALLED ROAD O 10,000.
THE ROAD IS 10 THOUSA,000 STUDE.
AND WAS ABLE TO IN THAT PRESENTATION REALLY TIE IN TO ALL OUTCOMES BASED FUNDING MATRIX.
ALL OF THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES LAID OUT AND ALL THE PROGRAMS LIKE DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE, AND THE PATHWAYS PROJECT.
IT WILL REALLY SHOW HOW EACH ONE OF THOSE THINGS CONTRIBUTE TO OUR FUNDING, WHICH FOR US TO US IS 23%.
SO I'M TOLD THAT THAT WAS AN EFFECTIVE WAY OF HELPING EVERYONE SEE HOW THEY MATTER.
THE ONLY WAY -- IF YOU FULLY STRONGER TOGETHER AND NONE OF US CAN SOLVE THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS INDEPENDENTLY.
I HAVE HAD RECENT, I WON'T CALL SUCCESS, BUT RECENT AFFIRMATION THAT THE PEOPLE WHO HAD THE MOST QUESTIONS FELT THE MOST LEFT OUT FELT BETTER ABOUT HOW THEY CONTRIBUTE AND HOW THIS ALL FITS.
>> I --FY COULD JUST MENTION -- QUESTION EL CENTRO MEET ON A REGULAR BASIS LEADERSHIP OF THE ORGANIZATIONS.
WE HAVE HAVE ONCE A MONTH INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS WITH THOSE COUNCIL PRESIDENTS AS WELL.
THANK OUR SOMETHING SIMILAR AS WELL.
[02:05:01]
DISCUSSION.IF THERE ARE ISSUES I NEED TO ADDRESS ON ON CAMPUS.
GIVES ME AN OPPORTUNITY TALK ABOUT WHAT WE'RE DOING SAME WITH OUR STUDENT GOVERNMENTMENT ASSOCIATION.
IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ME TO BEGIN WITH THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL.
THIS IS HAPPENING AT EL CENTRO AND TELL ME YOUR QUESTIONS AND CON CONCERNS.
>> I THINK THAT AS JOE MENTIONED TOO, WE ALL USE OUR CONVOCATION DAY AS A TIME TO GIVE THE BIG PICTURE.
THAT CERTAINLY WHAT I DO IN THE FALL CONVOCATION AND EXPLAINING HERE'S WHERE WE ARE AT EASTFIELD AS AN INDIVIDUAL COLLEGE.
LET'S TALK ABOUT WHAT THAT MEANS ON A NETWORK ON A DISTRICTWIDE BASIS AN HOW YOU'RE PART OF THIS AT EASTFIELD AND ALSO THE WHOLE DPRINTHS WE HAD SLIDES, WE HAD A BIT OF A SKIT.
WE HAD FUN INFORM ACTIVE WAYS TO HELP -- INFORMATIVE WAYS TO BRING US ALL TOGETHER AS NE BIG NETWORK AND STILL REMAINING EASTFIELD DMREJ OUR CULTURE.
>> I THINK ALSO WE PROVIDE MULTIPLE MECHANISMS FOR SMALLER GROUP DISCUSSION.
BECAUSE THE NEEDS AND CONCERNS OF THE VARIOUS CONSTITUENTS AREN'T ALL THE SAME.
TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THOSE FOVOIC HEARD, THE STAFF VOICES AS WELL AS THE FACULTY VOICES THE ADMINISTRATOR VOICES AND TOGETHER ACROSS WORK GROUPS AND ADJUNCT FAUCULTY AT RICHLAND WE ALSO VIDEO A -- HAVE A ADJUNCTED FACULTY THAT IS ACTIVE THAT WE NEED WITH AND LOOK AT THEIR CONCERNS AND NEEDS.
I THINK WHEN IS SO IMPORTANT IS THIS ISN'T A ONE AND DONE ACTIVITY.
THIS IS A MULTI YEAR TRANSFORMATIONAL FUND PAL L LINGLY -- FOMENTALLY CHAL CHALLENGE -- FOMENTLY CHANGING HOW WE WORK TOGETHER.
IT TAKES TIME, EFFORT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
REINFORCING THE MESSAGE AND HELPING MOVE FIVE COMMUNITY CAMPUSES, ADDITIONAL LOCATION.
IT TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF MULTI LAYERED EFFORT.
I HOPE YOU SEE TODAY FROM THE SEVEN OF US THAT WE RE ALL TOGETHER COMMITTED TO LEADING THE TRANSFORMATIVE CHANGE AND WE ASK NOT ONLY YOUR SUPPORT, BUT ALSO YOUR UNDERSTANDING THAT IT'S NOT ONE AND DONE.
IT'S GOING TO TAKE TIME TO FULLY IMPLEMENT AND TO FULLY BE AT WHERE WE WANT TO BE BUT WE RE ALL ON THE TRAIN GOING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.
>> ANYONE ELSE? ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?
>> IN RESPONSE TO YOUR CMMENT.
THE SPIMPORTANCE OF SKIPPED CONSISTENCY AND STRATEGY AND THE CHALLENGE OF THE BREADTH AND DEPTH OF LEADERSHIP IT WILL TAKE TO MOVE FORWARD.
IT'S EXCITING ABOUT WHAT YOU PRESENTED TODAY WE'RE EGINNING TO SEE SOME OF THE RESULTS OF THAT ND IT'S POSITIVE.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS NEED FROM THE BOARD? WHAT IS IT YOU WOULD OST LIKE TO SEE US DO OR ENCOURAGE OR SUPPORT OR FOCUS ON TO HELP YOU? COLLECTIVELY DO WHAT YOU'RE DO DOING?
>> WE'VE ALREADY GIVEN IT TO THEM I THINK THEY'LL SAY.
>> I THINK THAT OVERALL ONE OF THE THINGS I THINK THAT WE'RE IN NEED AND WE'RE GOING DOWN THIS ROAD RIGHT NOW.
I KNOW THAT IS KIND OF REALLY WAS EVEN MORE AMPLIFIED JUST NOT TOO LONG AGO AT MOUNTAIN VIEW COLLEGE WHEN WE WERE LOOKING FOR CLAS CLASSROOMS. SO WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT GOING TO -- I CALLED OVER TO DR. WRIGHT FROM D BURKES AND I -- DBU I SAID I'M OUT.
WE'RE USING CONFERENCE ROOMS. WE HAVE NO MORE ROOM.
AND WHAT CONCERNS ME IN TERMS OF THE IMMEDIACY.
I HAVE FOLKS AT MOUNTAIN VIEW COLLEGE AND THIS IS NOT A POPULAR CONVERSATION SAYING DO WE NEED TO START PUTTING A CAP ON ENROLLMENT BECAUSE WE HAVE NO
[02:10:01]
MORE ROOM.AND IT'S A GOOD PROBLEM TO HAVE WHEN YOU'RE -- WHEN YOU HAVE ENROLLMENT GROWTH BECAUSE YOU'RE MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY.
BUT RIGHT NOW WE'RE T A CRITICAL MASS.
SO WE'RE HAVING TO BE CREATIVE.
WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT ST STARTING CLASSES AT 7:00.
WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THE SATURDAYS AND HOW WE CAN NEGOTIATE BECAUSE IT'S BECOME MORE OF A CHALLENGE.
AS YOU ALL ALSO KNOW IS RESOURCE ARE -- YOU TRY TO FLEX WITH WHAT YOU HAVE BUT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IS GET MORE FACULTY AND STAFF TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE STU STUDENTS.
WE FOCUSED ON FACULTY BUT DR. GARRETT, RIGHTFULLY SO SAYS WE HAVE ALL THESE STUDENTS C COMING IN HOW DO WE HELP IN RETENTION AND ALL THE THINGS THAT COME ALONG.
I THINK THAT IF YOU WERE TO ASK ME AS I'M OUTGOING, IS ONE IS TO KIND OF KEEP SOME OF THOSE THINGS IN MIND AS YOU'RE MAKING DECISIONS.
TRUSTEE RITTER I REMEMBER YOU SAYING, WHY DO WE DO IT THIS WAY? AND SO WHEN YOU HAVE SOME FAIRLY NEW COLLEGE PRESIDENTS AND FOLKS GOING IN AND ASKING THE QUESTION DIFFERENT WAY IS, WHY ARE WE DOING IT THIS WAY ND CAN WE DO IT ANOTHER WAY AND THE RESPONSE BE, WELL, THIS IS THE WAY WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT.
AND DOES THAT MEAN IT'S THE RIGHT WAY? AND IT MIGHT VERY WELL BE THE RIGHT WAY, BUT CAN WE EXPLORE OTHER CREATE I HAVE WAYS TO DO DIFFERENT THINGS AND CHANGE TE DIFFERENT PROCESSES AND PROCEDURES TO MAY BE EHANCE.
I THINK WITH THE NETWORK MOD THAT WILL DR. MAY IS KIND OF SHOCKED OUR MINDS TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE CAN DO THESE THINGS COLLAB COLLABORATIVELY.
WE CAN GO BACK AND SAY, LET'S 3 REEVALUATE WHAT OUR SYSTEMS ARE.
I'LL JUST SAY IN THE UNITED STATES, SOMETIMES WE'RE IN A MEANS OF IMMEDIACY.
IS THAT, WE WANT THIS TOMORROW.
WE HAVE TO KIND OF AKE A STEP BACK SOME TIME AND LISTEN AND LEARN AND FIGURE OUT WHERE WE'RE AT AND WHERE IS IT THAT WE COULD BE GOING IN THE FUTURE AND H HITTING THOSE SHORT TERM OR QUICK WINS.
>> I'LL QUICKLY SAY, ALL RTHOUG OUR HEART AND MIND HAS MOVED TOWARD THE NETWORK T REALITY IS PROCESS AND BUDGETS ARE STILL IN THE SAME -- IN THE OLD WAY OF DOING THINGS.
AND YOU MENTIONED, SHOULD YOU OFFER US A FINANCIAL INCENTIVE? I WOULDN'T ASK FOR INCENTIVE.
I WOULD ASK FOR IS COLLECTIVE FUND FOR INNOVATION.
WHAT WE TRY TO DO IS TAKE MONEY OUT OF EXISTING BUDGETS TO MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN.
THE MONEY WHERE SHE THE BUDGETS ARE EXTREMELY -- THE BUDGETS ARE EXTREMELY TIGHT AND FOR US TO TRY TO DO SOMETHING NEW AND DIFFERENT THAT MEANS SOMETHING THAT HAS TO STOP, IN SOME CASES IT'S NOT GOING STOP LINE IN PROCESS AND POLICIES AROUND THE NETWORK MODEL.
WE ALL HAVE SILOED CONVERSATIONS YOU ALL ASK AS INDIVIDUALS HOW WE'RE DOING BUT RARELY COLLE COLLECTIVELY.
>> I THINK POLICY IS SOMETIMES AN OBSTACLE.
AND DIFFICULT FOR US TO DO THAT THE BOARD LOOK AT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AT YOUR LEVEL THAT IMPEDE OUR ABILITY TO EXPAND TALKING ABOUT SHARED TALENT IN THE HR WRLD.
OR WE'RE TALKING ABOUT TAKING AS THOM AND I TALKING ABOUT A - POSSIBLE RISK WITH THE AREA.
WHAT PREVENTS US FROM MOVING FORWARD WITH THOSE KINDS OF EFFORTS IN AN EXPEDITIOUS WAY PERHAPS POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
IT'S A GREAT JOB ND I THINK VERY COMPREHENSIVE.
I WANT TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD TOO.
AS UR COLLEGES HAVE WORKED MORE COLLAB COLLABORATIVELY IT COMES AS A PRICE.
SOMETIMES THAT SPRYS ON CAMPUS IN TERMS OF WHAT THEIR FACULTY AND OTHER FOLKS THINK.
COLLABORATING BETWEEN EL CENTRO AND BROOK HAVEN ONE INSTITUTION THE FOLKS MAY GO, WHY ARE WE HELPING THEM? WHAT ABOUT US? SO THIS IS REALLY A COMPLETE SHIFT IN THINKING THROUGHOUT.
IT HAS TO BE LED BY OUR PRESENCE
[02:15:03]
ON THE CAMPUS.AMENT -- WANT THE BOARD KNOW WE NEED TO PROVIDE THAT KIND OF SUPPORT AS THEY FORWARD.
>> I THINK ON PAGE 11 IN TERMS OF THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES THAT IS DOWN AS THE CHALLENGE.
YOU'VE INFORMED US THAT THERE'S POLICIES --
>> WE'VE GOT A LIST OF 20 THERE.
SO IN OTHER WORDS WE'RE MOVING IN THAT DIRECTION.
DID Y'ALL BENEFIT FROM THIS PRESENTATION?
>> BECAUSE FROM CERTAIN BOARD MEMBERS THAT YOU WANT MORE DIALOGUE AMONG THE BOARD WAS THIS ADEQUATE?
IN TERMS OF THIS>> THINK IT WAS GOOD TO SEE ON NETWORK LEVEL THE PRESENTATION BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO BE NOW.
I APPRECIATE Y'ALL STICKING TO THE TIME FAME.
ALTHOUGH SOME OF IT IT WAS MORE THREE MINUTES EACH THAT YOU WERE DO DOING.
AND ON PAGE NINE ONE OF YOU WENT ABOUT FIVE MINUTES.
BUT I SAY THAT BECAUSE I JUST -- I'M ALL ABOUT FAIRNESS.
