[4.A. Announcements from the Chancellor]
CHAIR BRAVO.ONE, LET ME START BY WELCOMING BACK OUR STASH STUDENTS AS TODAY MARKS THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES FOR SPRING 2021 SEMESTER.
WE ARE CONTINUING TO HOLD CLASSES IN REMOTE ENVIRONMENT UNTIL FEBRUARY 15TH WITH ONLY A FEW FACE TO FACE FUNCTIONS ON CAMPUS COURSES AND THIS IS RESPONSE TO, OF COURSE, THE RECORD NUMBER OF COVID-19 CASES THAT HAVE BEEN OCCURRING IN OUR COMMUNITY REALLY SINCE THANKSGIVING.
HAS BEEN HOVERING ROUGHLY AROUND THE 2500 TO 3,000 NEW CASES TODAY.
DESPITE THAT, WE ARE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE NEW YEAR.
WITH A LOT GOING ON WITHIN DALLAS COLLEGE AS WE CONTINUE TO BOTH MAKE IT TRANSITION BUT WORK TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS DURING THIS TIME THAT IS OF COURSE CHALLENGING TO MANY OF US.
OUR STAFF AND FACULTY HAVE BEEN MAKING PREPARATIONS TO WELCOME OUR STUDENTS BACK TO ENSURE THEY ARE GETTING THE PROPER SUPPORT AND THE HELP THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN A SPRING SEMESTER AND WILL CERTAINLY EVEN IN THE COMMENTS LATER TODAY WILL BE TALKING ABOUT SOME OF THE WORK THAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING.
BUT I WANT TO GET A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR EMPLOYEES WHO WORKED OVER CHRISTMAS
[00:05:01]
BREAK JUST TIRELESSLY TO SERVICE OUR MANY STUDENTS AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY RECEIVE THE SUPPORT THAT THEY NEEDED IN ORDER TO REGISTER FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER.AND LITERALLY, WE HAD A GREAT TEAM WORKING ROUND-THE-CLOCK AND BOTH ADVISING, REGISTRATION, FINANCIAL AID AND LITERALLY HELPED THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS BE ABLE TO ENROLL THIS SPRING DESPITE ALL THE CHALLENGES OF WORKING IN A PANDEMIC.
THE YOU KNOW AS WE LOOK TO THE FUTURE, I REMAIN OPTIMISTIC NO THAT WE ARE SEEING THE VACCINE ROLL OUT.
IT CERTAINLY, YOU KNOW THE NUMBERS ARE STILL RELATIVELY LOW TO THE ENTIRE POPULATION IN DALLAS COUNTY.
BUT, OBVIOUSLY, THAT'S GOING TO BE HUGE AS WE GO FORWARD RIGHT NOW IN THE STATE OF TEXAS OVER 1 MILLION PEOPLE HAD BEEN VACCINATED WITH LITERALLY NOW THOUSANDS EVERY DAY AND WITH THE INCREASED AVAILABILITY OF VACCINES WE WILL SEE MORE OF THAT GOING ON.
THE -- AND WHILE THAT'S CERTAINLY THE COVID SITUATION HAS IMPACTED OUR DECISIONS RIGHT NOW, AS IT RELATES TO STAYING REMOTE, HAVING OUR EMPLOYEES WORK REMOTELY FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE, WE ARE KIND OF TAKING THAT -- THOSE DECISIONS IN BITES.
MAKING SURE WE'RE EVALUATING ALONG THE WAY.
AND I CANNOT PROMISE THE BOARD OR THE PUBLIC THAT WE WILL ACTUALLY BE BACK FACE TO FACE ON FEBRUARY FEBRUARY 15TH.
WE WILL BE EVALUATING THIS ON AN ONGOING BASIS JUST TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO MAINTAIN SAFETY AND FOLLOWING THE HEALTH PROTOCOLS.
BUT WE WILL BE DOING SO AND CERTAINLY, THIS IS IMPACTED A LOT OF AREAS.
I KNOW MANY OF YOU ON THE BOARD HAVE BEEN HEARING FROM OUR ATHLETE AS -- WHO ARE WRESTLING WITH MAKING DECISIONS ABOUT THE SEASONS.
AND CERTAINLY THIS DECISION HAS FAR REACHING CONSEQUENCES AND THE CONSIDERATION FOR OUR STUDENT ATHLETE.
ON ONE HAND WE DON'T WANT TO COMPROMISE THE STUDENT HEALTH ON THE OTHER HAND WE WANT TO BE UNDERSTANDING OF THE NEEDS AND THEIR UNIQUE SITUATION.
I WILL SAY THE DECISIONS ON THAT HAVEN'T BEEN FINALIZED.
CERTAINLY, WE HAVE BEEN IN OUR DISCUSSIONS LOOKING HOW WE COULD HAVE SAFETY WHILE ENSURING THAT WE'RE NOT PUTTING OUR STUDENTS AT RISK.
BUT EVEN PRIOR TO THE CORRESPONDENCE YOU'VE SEEN.
WE'VE HAD A MEETING SET UP THIS MORNING AT THIS VERY MOMENT AT 10:00 A.M.
WITH DR. BEATRICE JOSEPH WHO SCHEDULED A MEETING TO MEET WITH STUDENTS AND PARENTS TO REALLY HEAR FROM THEM DIRECTLY TO MAKE SURE WE WERE TAKING THEIR VOICES AND THEIR SITUATION INTO OUR DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES.
WE WILL MAKE SURE BEFORE ANY FINAL DECISION IS REACHED THAT WE HAVE CONSIDERED ALL POSITIONS ON THIS.
ADDITIONALLY, THERE'S A MEETING SET UP FOR TOMORROW WITH OUR COACHES AND ATHLETIC DIRECTORS TO HAVE FOLLOW UP CONVERSATIONS WITH THEM BASED ON WHAT WE ARE HEARING FROM THE STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS.
YOU KNOW, I DON'T TAKE ANY OF THESE CONCERNS LIGHTLY.
BOTH IN TERMS OF DESIRES OF STUDENTS AND AT THE SAME TIME WE CAN'T IGNORE THE HEALTH AND WELFARE.
NOT JUST OF STUDENTS, BUT IT'S OF OUR FACULTY STAFF AND EMPLOYEES THAT ARE WELL.
WE'LL SOME OF THIS INVOLVES PERSONAL AND RESTRUCTURE THAT WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT.
HOPEFULLY LATER TODAY AND I'M GOING TO ASK THAT WE HAVE EXECUTIVE SESSION TO ADDRESS A COUPLE OF THESE ISSUES TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE TAKING EVERYTHING INTO CONSIDERATION REGARDING THE OVERALL STRUCTURE OF ATHLETICS UNDERSTAND DALLA COLLEGE.
FINALLY, I REALLY WANT TO THANK THE BOARD FOR SPENDING THE DAY WITH US AS WE BEGAN A NEW STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS.
I NEED TO BE AND I WILL MENTION THIS SEVERAL TIMES.
THIS PROCESS THAT WE'RE STARTING TODAY IS FOR SEPTEMBER 1, 2021 THROUGH AUGUST 31, 2022.
EVEN THOUGH WE STILL HAVE EIGHT MONTHS TO GO UNDER OUR CURRENT YEAR AND THE
[00:10:10]
FOLLOWING UP ON, ON OUR PLAN, IT'S ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL THAT WE BEGIN THE PLANNING FOR THE UPCOMING YEAR.IN FACT WE'RE A LITTLE BIT BEHIND WHAT WOULD BE OUR NORMAL SCHEDULE.
IN THIS REGARD IN BEING ABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS.
AND FINALLY, CHAIR BRAVO AND VICE CHAIR RITTER, I WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME YOU TO YOUR FIRST BOARD MEETINGS IN THE LEADERSHIP ROLE.
OF COURSE ALSO GLAD TO HAVE A GOOD BOY BACK WITH US ON THE BOARD FOR HIS SECOND MEETING.
AND OUR LEADERSHIP LOOKS FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THE BOARD AS WE CONTINUE TO MOVE FORWARD ON THIS JOURNEY OF BECOMING DALLAS COLLEGE.
WE'RE LESS THAN YOU KNOW A LITTLE BIT OVER SIX MONTHS IN TO THE DALLAS COLLEGE TRANSITION.
IT WILL TAKE THREE YEARS TO FULLY BE ABLE TO GET THERE.
BUT I THINK WE'RE OFF TO A GREAT START, THAT WE WILL HIGHLIGHT HERE IN A FEW MOMENTS.
AND CHAIR BRAVO, THAT CONCLUDES MY COMMENTS.
I'M SURE I SPEAK FOR THE BOARD WHEN I SAY I HOPE THAT WE CAN RESOLVE OUR STUDENT ATHLETE CONCERNS, CONCERNING THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF AND DALLAS COLLEGE.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO UPDATE ON THAT MATTER.
WELCOME BACK TO ALL DALLAS COLLEGE STUDENTS ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD WE THANK YOU FOR CONTINUING OUR EDUCATIONAL GOALS WITH US.

WE ARE HERE TO ASSIST YOU IN MEETING THE CHALLENGES.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AS WE CONTINUE TO OFFER MOST OF OUR CLASSES REMOTELY ONLINE IN ORDER TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF OUR STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF DURING THE PANDEMIC.

WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE YOUR BRIGHT SMILES IN OUR CLASSROOMS AND HALLWAYS ONCE AGAIN.
I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO WELCOME BACK OUR STAFF.
YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE A VERY PROUS BY WAY OF TREMENDOUS EFFORT IN SERVING OUR STUDENTS.
WE WANT TO RECOGNIZE YOUR COMMITMENT AND AGILITY IN OVERCOMING THE BARRIERS TO STUDENTS THAT THE PANDEMIC HAS BROUGHT.

DALLAS COLLEGE PLAYS A CRITICAL ROLE IN WORKFORCE EDUCATION.
WE WILL HAVE AN IMPORTANT ROLL LOCALLY IN RECOVERING FROM THE DALLAS ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF THE PANDEMIC.
WE'RE EXCITED THAT DALLAS COLLEGE WILL HAVE REPRESENTATION ON THE TASK FORCE AND HAVE A VOICE, CONTRIBUTION FOR THE INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP PLAN THAT WILL BE PREPARED AND PRESENTED TO MAYOR IN APRIL.
CONGRATULATIONS, TRUSTEE FLORES.
DO ANY TRUSTEES HAVE ANNOUNCEMENT THEY WOULD LIKE TO MAKE AT THIS MOMENT?
>> I DON'T SEE ANY HANDS UP FOR ANYONE.
WE WILL GO AHEAD AND BEGIN WITH THE FIRST PRESENTATION DALLAS COLLEGE OVERVIEW BY
[5. Dallas College Overview Presenter: Joe May]
[00:15:09]
THE CHANCE LOR.THANK YOU VERY MUCH CHAIR BRAVO.
I WILL DO KIND OF A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE CURRENT PLANNING YEAR WHERE WE ARE JUST KIND OF PUT A FEW THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE.
BUT BEFORE I DO THAT, LET ME JUST KIND OF MAKE A FEW COMMENTS IF I COULD TO THE BOARD.
ABOUT PLANNING AND WHAT IS DIFFERENT NOW THAT WE ARE DALLAS COLLEGE AS OPPOSED TO DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT.
UP UNTIL NOW THE BOARD HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN SETTING THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES THAT WERE THEN TAKEN BY EACH OF OUR 7 COLLEGES.
WE WILL BE HEARING MORE FROM DANIEL VALLE ON REQUIREMENT INVOLVING PLANNING AND THE ROLE OF THE BOARD AS WELL AS OUR FOLKS.
LET ME KIND OF SUMMARIZE HEAR ON THAT.
FROM A PLANNING PERSPECTIVE BY SACS, THE REQUIREMENT IS THAT IT REALLY START FROM THE BOTTOM UP.
AND SO WHAT WE HAD BEFORE IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THAT, WHILE WE HAD THE BOARD SET THE OVERALL PRIORITIES, EACH OF OUR COLLEGES WENT AND AS REQUIRED BY SACS BEGAN TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN 7 STRATEGIC PLAN AS REQUIRED BY SACS.
THEY HAD TO EACH BE UNIQUE TO THEMSELVES, INVOLVING INPUT FROM THEIR FACULTY, STAFF, ADMINISTRATORS, TO ROLL UP IN A FASHION TO BECOME AN OVERALL STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE COLLEGE SO THAT EACH OF OUR COLLEGES, EACH HAD THEIR OWN UNIQUE PLAN THAT WAS MADE AVAILABLE TO SACS AND OTHERS BUT SERVED AS THE OVERALL GUIDING DOCUMENT FOR THAT.
BECAUSE WE WERE AT THAT TIME A DISTRICT WITH 7 COLLEGES, SACS DOESN'T ALLOW FOR OVERARCHING PLAN WITH THE DISTRICT, RATHER EACH COLLEGE HAD TO HAVE THEIR OWN -- REALLY NO PROVISIONS OR RECOGNITION FOR ANYTHING ELSE OTHER THAN THAT IN THE PROCESS.
HOWEVER, NOW THAT WE'RE DALLAS COLLEGE, IT DOES MEAN THAT WE NOW HAVE TO HAVE AN OVERARCHING PLAN THAT PROVIDES FOR BUILT UPON INPUT FROM FACULTY, STAFF, ADMINISTRATORS, THROUGHOUT DALLAS COLLEGE ROLLING UP INTO AN OVERALL PLAN THAT WILL SERVE AS THE DALLAS COLLEGE PLAN.
IN MY ROLE NOW AS NOT JUST CHANCELLOR BUT ALSO CEO OF DALLAS COLLEGE THEN I HAVE TO OVERSEE THAT AS AS PART OF THE PROCESS AND CERTAINLY THE BOARD'S ROLE IS SOMEONE CHANGED AS WELL.
SINCE THE IN THE PAST THE BOARD DIDN'T REALLY SEOVER ARCHING PLAN.
NOW WHAT WE HAVE AN OVERARCHING PLAN WE NEED TO FOLLOW FROM INPUT AND ENGAGEMENT SIDE WHAT ULTIMATELY DETERMINED BY THAT THE PROCESS THAT WE USE UP TO US.
WHO WILL START WITH OVERVIEW OF THE MISSION AND STRATEGIC PRIORITIES BY MARY BRUMBACH.
SHE WILL TALK ABOUT THE FORMAT THAT WE PLAN TO USE TO ENGAGE ALL OF OUR FACULTY, STAFF ADMINISTRATORS IN AN OVERALL PLANNING PROCESS THROUGHOUT
[00:20:01]
THE ENTIRE DISTRICT WHAT THEIR ROLL WILL BE.TO GET INTO THE SACS ISSUE AND UPDATES THERE.
JUSTIN AND DANIEL WILL THEN PROVIDE INFORMATION.
GO THROUGH THE BOARD ROLES VERSES THE LEADERSHIP ROLE VERSES THE ROLE OF FACULTY PARTICULARLY OF GREAT INTEREST TO SACS.
WE WILL TALK ABOUT THE COMMUNICATION STRATEGY WHICH NOT CORRECTLY RELATED TO THE PLANNING PROCESS.
AS WE JUST START I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE UNDERSTOOD WHAT WE WERE GOING TO DO TODAY.
AND WHAT THE IMPLICATIONS ARE FOR THE BOARD FOR ME AND THE LEADERSHIP TEAM AS WELL AS ALL THE EMPLOYEES OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
I JUST ASK MEMBERS OF THE BOARD, DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? AS WE JUMP INTO THIS?
>> SEEING HEADS NOD I WILL GO FORWARD AT THIS TIME.
IF WE COULD, LET'S ADVANCE THE SLIDE.
THIS THE GOT A FEW MOVING PARTS TO IT.
I WANTED TO DO A HIGH-LEVEL TIME LINE AND REVIEW OF WHERE WE ARE, MAINLY TO JUST KIND OF REMIND US AND GET A SENSE OF THE OVERALL WORK THAT'S GOING ON UNDER THE EXISTING BOARD PRIORITIES ARE IN PLACE.
AND, OBVIOUSLY, YOU KNOW THESE EVENTS KIND OF LEAD UP AND SO I'VE ASKED OUR FOLKS TO PUT SOME OF THESE TOGETHER ON A TIME LINE JUST SO WE CAN KIND OF GET THE SCOPE OF WHERE WE ARE.
AND IN JANUARY, WE REALLY EXPANDED OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH AMAZON AND THE CLOUD COMPUTING WORK THAT OUR TEAM HAD DONE PARTICULARLY THE FOLKS IN EL CENTRO AND THEY WERE ABLE TO HELP US MOVE THIS PARTICULAR PROGRAM ACROSS THE ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS.
I BELIEVE 30 OTHER INSTITUTIONS HAVE ADOPTED THIS TO HELP PREPARE PEOPLE FOR JOBS RELATED TO CLOUD COMPUTING.
WE ALSO PARTNERED WITH 20 EMPLOYERS IN THE AREA DURING THAT MONTH.
NEW EMPLOYERS, TO OFFER ESL TRAINING.
AND EXPANDED THAT TO ABOUT 3,000 NONNATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER DURING THAT TIME.
THAT PROGRAM OBVIOUSLY CONTINUED TO GROW.
WE ALSO ROLLED OUT OUR MOBILE APP NAVIGATE AND OUR NEW WEB SITE AT THIS TIME.
THIS, AGAIN, ALL PREPANDEMIC, THERE WAS CHANGES MADE.
OUR GOAL WAS IT TURNED OUT TO SERVE US WELL TO BE ABLE TO VERY QUICKLY CONNECT STUDENTS WITH RESOURCES THAT WERE NEEDED.
AND THEN JUST CONTINUED OUR STRONG SCHOLARLY PURSUITS REALLY PLEASED TO SEE BOTH CEDAR VALLEY AND RICHLAND WERE NAMED AMONG THE TOP PRODUCING INSTITUTIONS FOR U.S.
FULL-RIDE SCHOLARS IN THE NATION.
AND THIS INCLUDES FOUR-YEAR INSTITUTIONS AS WELL.
AS A FORMER RESIP YNT I'M PROUD OF THE WORK WE WILL HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO IN THIS EFFORT ALTHOUGH CERTAINLY SLOWED DOWN BY THE PANDEMIC.
ANYONE IS FREE TO INTERRUPT ME.
MARCH HIT WE QUICKLY SHIFTING INTO PANDEMIC MODE AS EVERYONE RECALLS.
WE CONVERTED 99.6 OF OUR FACE TO FACE CREDIT AND CONTINUING EDUCATION CLASSES TO ONLINE DELIVERY.
THIS IS ONE OF THE LARGEST CON CONVERSIONS IN THE UNITED STATES WITH OVER
[00:25:04]
82,000 STUDENTS GOING ONLINE WITH INVOLVING 15,000 COURSES AND LITERALLY DID THIS AND I JUST ABOUT THE WEEK.WE ALSO IN A TIMELY WAY LAUNCHED FIRST IN THE COUNTRY ELECTRONIC TRANSCRIPTS THAT GIVES STUDENTS FULL CONTROL OF THAT WHICH HELPED THEM GREATLY DURING THE PANDEMIC TO BE ABLE TO APPLY LITERALLY TO THOUSANDS OF INSTITUTIONS IN A SEAMLESS MANNER.
AND THEN AS A RESULT OF THE PANDEMIC, OUR FOUNDATION BOARD STEPPED UP IMMEDIATELY AND COMMITTED 1 MILLION DOLLARS TO EMERGENCY AIDE TO HELP STUDENT OUT THAT WERE STRUGGLING.
WE'LL GET INTO SOME MORE OF THE WORK THAT WAS DONE AT THAT TIME.
AND IN APRIL WE PUT IN OUR VIRTUAL STUDENT RESOURCES SEPARATION GREATLY ENHANCED OUR CHAT AND TEXT CAMPAIGNS WITH STUDENTS.
AS I RECALL, WE HAD CELL PHONE NUMBER FOR OVER 56,000 STUDENTS, WERE ABLE TO REACH OUT TO THEM DURING THE PANDEMIC, AND KEEP IN CONTACT WITH THEM BUT ALSO USING OTHER TEAMS ON SOCIAL MEDIA AS WELL AND A CONSTANT CAMPAIGN TO ENGAGE OUR STUDENTS AS THEY WERE MAKING THE TRANSITION.
ALSO AT THIS TIME, WE DID A DRAMATIC SHIFT WITH OUR FOOD PANTRIES, OPENING UP FOOD PROVIDING OVER 5.8 TONS OF FOOD TO THE COMMUNITY.
WE ALSO PROVIDED YOU KNOW DONATED THOUSANDS OF PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT, MASKS, OTHER EQUIPMENT TO HOSPITALS, WE MADE AVAILABLE VENTILATORS TO HOSPITALS AS THEY WERE DEALING WITH THIS.
WE ALSO WENT INTO PRODUCTION WITH OUR FOLKS IN MANUFACTURED FACE SHIELDS THAT WERE GIVEN TO UT SOUTHWESTERN BAYLOR, SCOTT WHITE AND OTHER HOSPITALS FOR USE DURING THAT TIME.
WE WERE ALREADY WELL ALONG THE WAY WITH REBRANDING OUR CULINARY PASTRY AND HOSPITALITY PROGRAM.
WE OPENED UP THE DALLAS FACILITY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THAT.
AND TO GET INTO THAT PROGRAM BY THE WAY IMMEDIATELY BEGAN PREPARING AND MAKING MEALS AVAILABLE TO RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES THAT HAD LOST THEIR JOBS DUE TO THE PANDEMIC AND COVID DURING THAT TIME.
THEN WE RECEIVED ABOUT 9 AND A HALF MILLION IN THE CARES ACT.
THAT'S ABOUT HALF OF THE 20 MILLION THAT WE RECEIVED.
BUT 9 AND A HALF OF THIS IS EARMARKED SPECIFICALLY FOR EMERGENCY AIDE AND ASSISTANCE TO STUDENT.
WHICH ALLOWED ALONG WITH THE FOUNDATION DOLLARS TO BE ABLE TO GIVE OUT OVER 1 MILLION A MONTH HELPING STUDENTS WITH THINGS LIKE RENT, ELECTRICITY.
CAR REPAIR, OTHER BASIC NECESSITIES THAT THEY NEED IN ORDER TO STAY IN SCHOOL.
AND WE CONTINUED TO DO THAT AND MAKE THAT AVAILABLE.
YOU KNOW WHEN WE GOT INTO MARCH, WE BASICALLY THOUGHT PERHAPS THIS WILL BE SHORT-TERM WITH THE PANDEMIC AND THAT WE WILL BE BACK FACE TO FACE BEFORE THE END OF THE SPRING SEMESTER.
OBVIOUSLY, THAT WAS WISHFUL THINKING.
ON OUR PART AND WE QUICKLY MADE A DECISION REMAIN REMOTE THROUGHOUT THE SPRING AND SUMMER AND THEN VERY QUICKLY WE'RE AMONG THE FIRST IN THE COUNTRY TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE WOULD REMAIN REMOTE FOR THE FALL SEMESTER.
WE ALSO AT THAT TIME BEGAN OPENING UP OUR CAMPUSES, TO DISTRIBUTE FOOD.
WE PARTNERED WITH NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK AND MADE THIS AVAILABLE ON A ROTATING BASIS AT ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS.
I THINK THERE'S AN INSERT HERE IF WE COULD PEARL IT TO POP UP AT THIS POINT ON
[00:30:12]
THE SLIDE.JUST KIND OF EMPHASIZE, AGAIN IN, MAY A FEW OTHER THINGS THAT WE HAD GOING ON.
WE WORKED WITH THE MAYOR'S OFFICE, WITH THE DALLAS CITIZEN COUNCIL, AND OTHERS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE ABLE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF SMALL BUSINESSES WE REQUESTED FUNDS FROM THE TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION RECEIVED 1.1 MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP EMPLOYERS PROVIDE EMERGENCY TRAINING FOR THEIR EMPLOYEES, WE HELPED SMALL BUSINESSES SECURE ABOUT 30 MILLION IN LOANS THROUGHOUT SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION CENTER AS THEY WERE DEALING WITH THE PANDEMIC.
I MENTIONED THE THOUSANDS OF FACE FIELDS THAT WE MANUFACTURED AT THIS TIME AND WE TOOK PART IN THE DELIVERING MANY OF THESE T SMALL BUSINESSES.
ONE THING WE ALSO DID AND WORKING WITH THE CITY WAS TO STAFF AND OPERATE A CALL CENTER FOR SMALL BUSINESSES AND BASICALLY SERVING AS ONE-STOP SHOP TO HELP MEET THOSE NEEDS.
ON ONE HAND, DURING THE SPRING WE WERE DEALING WITH REALITIES OF WORKING WITH OUR OWN STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM, BUT ALSO RESPONDING AS WE APPROPRIATELY SHOULD TO THE NEEDS OF THE IN PROVIDING THOSE WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON SMALL BUSINESSES AS WE HAVE THOSE NEEDS.
AGAIN AS WE GOT INTO JUNE, AT THE JUNE MEETING, OF THE SACS SOUTHERN ASSOCIATION COLLEGES OF SCHOOLS COMMISSION ON COLLEGES, WE WERE FORMERLY APPROVED TO BE BECOME DALGZ COLLEGE.
AND AT THAT POINT WE HAD TO MOVE QUICKLY TO BEGIN THE RESTRUCTURING THAT WE HAD PLANNED OUT.
WE CREATED THE NEW INSTRUCTIONIONAL SCHOOLS.
WE BEGAN THE THAT PROCESS OF GETTING UNDER WAY.
AT THE SAME TIME, WE WERE STRUCK WITH THE CHALLENGE OF SPRING GRADUATIONS AND HOW WE HANDLED THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A VIRTUAL SETTINGS.
AND WE AWARDED OVER 8,000 DEGREES IN A VIRTUAL COMMENCEMENT.
AS WE MENTIONED AS PART OF THE RESTRUCTURING.
WE NOW ARE APPROVED TO OPERATE UNDER SINGLE ACCREDITATION.
WE CREATED THE 7 NEW INSTRUCTIONAL SCHOOL AND ALIGNED OUR CAREER PATHWAYS AND BEGAN STAFFING THAT OUT WITH NEW LEADERSHIP WITH A STRUCTURE THAT WAS DESIGNED TO BETTER SERVE STUDENTS AND WORK ACROSS ALL AREAS OF THE COLLEGE WITH OUR NEW TEAM WE WANTED TO GET THEM ON THE SAME PAGE.
WE FOR THE TOP TEAM WE BROUGHT IN EXECUTIVE COACHING.
WE TAUGHT AT THE CEO BOOK CLUB.
IT WAS REALLY ABOUT US GETTING ON THE SAME FOUNDATIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SUPPORT FOR THE TEAM WITH SIX BOOKS THAT WE ALL READ AND DISCUSSED AS WE LOOKED AT HOW WE COULD BEST MEET THE NEEDS OF WE ALSO INVOLVED OUR LEADERSHIP IN A LEADERSHIP PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE TO REALLY HELP BUILD AND SUPPORT THIS NEW TEAM AS WE WENT FORWARD.
WE ALSO VERY QUICKLY INITIATED A NUMBER OF NEW INITIATIVES INCLUDING OUR ACADEMIC INCUBATOR WHICH IS UP AND RUNNING.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT FOR ONLINE TEACHING, WE WITH HAVE NOW ENROLLED HUNDREDS OF FACULTY IN THE PROCESS GIVING THEM THE SKILLS TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
WE ALSO EXPANDED OUR STUDENT SERVICE OFFERINGS WITH CONSOLIDATION AND LOOKING AT HOW WE CAN BEST MEET THOSE NEEDS.
YOU KNOW, I DON'T WANT TO GET INTO EVERYTHING WE'VE DONE IN THE PROCESS.
[00:35:01]
BUT IT WAS COMPREHENSIVE AND CONTINUES TO GO FORWARD.WE HAVE DONE A LOT OF THE BIG LIST -- LIFTS BUT WE'RE NOT THERE YET IN TERM OF MEETING THE NEED.
AND NOT THERE IN TERMS OF THE NUMBER OF STAFF THAT WE NEED AND STUDENT FACING POSITIONS TO ADEQUATELY ASSIST STUDENT.
THAT'S ONE THING THAT IS CRYSTAL CLEAR.
DURING THE PANDEMIC, YOU KNOW, I KNEW BEFORE HAND THAT WE PROBABLY NEEDED ANOTHER 250 TO 300 PEOPLE THAT ADVISORS, COACHES, AND OTHER WORKING DIRECTLY WITH STUDENTS.
IT'S NOT JUST THAT WE NEED THAT NUMBER.
WE NEED -- THEY WHEN THEY SKILL SET AND UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF A STUDENTS.
AS WE CONTINUED INTO JULY, ONE EFFORT THAT YOU KNOW REALLY PROUD OF THIS.
THEY GAINED A LOT OF NATIONAL ATTENTION WITH IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TEXAS RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION, THE TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION.
BUT WE PUT TOGETHER A TRAINING CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR RESTAURANT ORANGER AND WORKER AND OWNERS.
THAT COMING BACK WOULD BE SAFE EXPERIENCE FOR THEM.
AND LITERALLY HAD HUNDREDS OF INDIVIDUAL RESTAURANT WORKERS OWNERS AND OTHERS TAKE PART IN THIS.
ANDREW NATIONAL ATTENTION WITH THE NATIONAL RESTAURANT ASSOCIATION AND OTHER WHO ADOPTED THIS MODEL THAT WE'VE PUT IN PLACE.
>> BEFORE YOU MOVE FURTHER IF YOU COULD GO BACK TO THE SLIDE THAT REFERENCES EXECUTIVE COACHING.
IT'S THE ONE, TWO, THREE, FOURTH BULLET.
>> I THINK THAT WAS SMARLT TO -- SMART TO FOCUS ON THE EXECUTIVE COACHING.
MY QUESTION IS, I WOULD IMAGINE THAT'S GOING TO BE ONGOING?
WITH THE DEVELOPMENT NEXT PHASE WILL BE DEVELOPING OF ONGOING INSTITUTE BUT WE ARE STEPPING UP AND BUYING SLOTS IN EXISTING LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS. FOR EXAMPLE, WITH BOTH HACU.
WE'VE SECURED TEN PERMANENT SLOTS IN THE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY.
WE SECURED 7 SLOTS IN THE LEAGUE OF INNOVATION AND SO WE'RE LOOKING FOR HIGH-QUALITY.
WE ALSO SECURED SLOT IN THE ASPEN INSTITUTE WHICH IS REALLY ABOUT CREATING A TRACK FOR LEADERS TO MOVE ON AND BECOME PRESIDENT.
IT'S BOTH AN INTERNAL INVESTMENT AND WHICH IS REALLY IMPORTANT YOU KNOW IT'S MORE TIME THAN I WOULD HAVE HERE TO GET SOME OF THE DETAILS THAT WE TALK ABOUT BUT WE FOR EXAMPLE ONE OF THE TOPICS WAS POVERTY AND THE IMPACT OF POVERTY ON INDIVIDUALS AND THEIR FEATURE.
ANOTHER DEALT WITH THE REALITIES OF AND THE CHALLENGES OF NOT ONLY INDIVIDUAL COMING OUT OF POVERTY.
BUT IMMIGRANTS AND OTHER SOCIAL CHALLENGES THAT WERE THERE.
BE TALKED ABOUT THE CHANGES IN TECHNOLOGY THAT ARE OCCURRING AND HOW THAT'S ELIMINATING JOBS AND WHERE THE NEW JOBS ARE BEING CREATED AND REALLY ISSUES LIKE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, WHAT THAT MEANS AS AN INSTITUTION GOING FORWARD AS WE THINK ABOUT CARRYING PEOPLE FOR HUMAN WORK, IN FACT.
I WILL BE HAVE AN AUTHOR PRESIDENT OF THE ILLUMINA FOUNDATION ON THE 19TH WILL BE THURSDAY.
AND INVITED HIM FOR TOWN HALL MEETING WITH OUR FOLKS.
WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT A ROLL OF COMMUNITY COLLEGES IN PREPARING PEOPLE.
THAT'S KIND OF THE STRUCTURE OF IT.
INDIVIDUAL COACHING, BUT ALSO COMMON THEMES AROUND ISSUES THAT WE NEED TO BE
[00:40:02]
THINKING ABOUT.IN MY MASTER'S PROGRAM WE READ THE SAME BOOK ON POVERTY.
I DIDN'T THINK IT COVERED SUFFICIENTLY -- IT JUST TALKED ABOUT THE VERY, VERY NEGATIVE AX SUSPECT.
DIDN'T COVER WHERE FAMILIES HAVE BEEN WHEN PARENTS ARE ABSENT OR SADDLED WITH PROBLEMS SUCH AS DRUG ADDICTION.
THIS HAPPENING AT THE EXECUTIVE LEVEL.
WHAT HAPPENS FOR THEN THE SUCCEEDING LEVELS UNDER THE EXECUTIVE LEVEL.
BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW AND WE REFERENCED SEVERAL TIMES, WHICH NEED TO HAVE ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR EVERY LEVEL OF OUR STAFF TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS FOCUSED ON MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE PROVIDING THE ABSOLUTE BEST SERVICE FOR OUR STUDENTS FOR RETENTION AND COMPLETION PURPOSES, AND ALSO TO HELP SERVE OUR MISSION.
WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE LEVEL UNDER EXECUTIVE FROM WHATEVER THE NEXT LEVEL IS DOWN TO OUR FACILITIES STAFF?
OBVIOUSLY ALL THIS MATTERS AS WE LOOK AT THE TOTAL ORGANIZATION.
WE DID STOP START AT THE TOP FOR A REASON.
SO WE'RE SETTING OVERARCHING THEME AND MAKING SURE THAT, THAT WE'RE LEADING FROM THE SAME PLACE AND COMMUNICATING FROM AT LEAST THE SAME POINT OF VIEW AND UNDERSTAND WHY WE'RE DOING WHAT WE ARE DOING.
WE ALSO PARTNERED WITH AN ORGANIZATION TO WORK WITH OUR FACULTY IN TERMS OF TRAINING THEIR PARTICULARLY FOR ONLINE.
WITH SKILLS AND HOW WE CAN DO A BETTER JOB.
AS WE MADE THE TRANSITION TO ONLINE, WE HAD A LOT OF FACULTY THAT HAD BEEN DOING THAT FOR YEARS.
OTHERS HAD -- FOR GOOD REASONS -- REALLY REMAINED AND PREFERRED FACE TO FACE.
WE CONTINUED WITH OUR COMPLIANCE TRAINING AND A LOT OF AREAS, THAT WE MADE SURE AS WE DEAL WITH THE ISSUES THAT ARE THERE MOVING THAT ONLINE.
NOW, TO YOUR QUESTION WE STILL HAVE WORK TO DO WITH THE STAFF.
WE HAVEN'T CHANGED THAT AT THIS POINT FROM WHAT WE HAD IN THE PAST.
AND THAT'S SIMILARING -- SIMPLY NOT AS ROBUST AS I LIKE TO SEE.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO BUILD THAT OUT.
WE ARE DOING AS I SAID SOME WORK TO HELP GROW LEADERS OUT OF THE ORGANIZATION BUT WE GOT TO DO A LOT MORE EARLIER ON WITH PEOPLE AS THEY COME ONBOARD AS WELL AS WITH NEWLY HIRED FACULTY IN THAT REGARD.
WE ARE DOING A LOT WITH EXISTING FACULTY.
BUT WE HAVEN'T STRUCTURED A PROGRAM YET FOR NEW HIRES.
>> WELL, NOT ONLY JUST NEW HIRES BUT THOSE PEOPLE THAT ARE THERE THAT NEED TO SKILL UP.
BUT WE DO THING WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE COMING IN UNDERSTANDS OUR CULTURE.
UNDERSTANDS OUR ATTITUDE TOWARD.
HOW WE MEET THE NEED AND SERVE OUR COMMUNITY AND EMPLOYER SO WE ARE ARE ON THE RIGHT PAGE.
A LOT OF TIME DEPENDING ON THE INSTITUTION THEY OFTEN WILL BE OVERLY PROGRAMCALLY FOCUSSED WITH OUT THE AWARENESS OF OUR OVERALL MISSION AND WHAT'S THERE.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IS A PART OF EVERYONE'S NOT JUST ORIENTATION BUT TRAINING AS WELL.
>> GIVEN THE WITH RESTRUCTURING AND THE MOVE YOU ONLINE AND ALSO YOU KNOW THE ONE CAMPUS.
HOW DO WE ENVISION THE ROLE OF LA CROIX CENTER IN DALLAS COLLEGE OF THE FUTURE?
I THINK I WOULD REPOSITION THE QUESTION A LITTLE BIT.
THAT'S HOW WE DEAL WITH DIGITAL LEARNING GOING FORWARD.
YOU KNOW, LA CROIX CENTER AS AN ENTITY HAS ALWAYS BEEN REALLY ABOUT DELIVERING AND SUPPORTING VARIOUS FORMS OF REMOTE LEARNING WHETHER IT BE THE OTELLA COURSES OR E-LEARNING.
THEY ALSO DEVELOPED COURSE CONTENT.
MAINLY USED BY DALLAS COLLEGE OR OUR COLLEGES BUT OTHERS AS WELL.
YOU KNOW, A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT WE'RE ALREADY HAPPENING.
48% OF THE CONTENT PRIOR TO THE PANDEMIC WAS DIGITAL.
MEANING THAT TEXTBOOK AND LEARNING MATERIALS WERE IN DIGITAL FORMAT.
MANY OF THEM ALREADY IN A CREATED IN SUCH A WAY THEY WERE REALLY DESIGNED FOR WITH THE EXPECTED USE OF REMOTE LEARNING.
DIGITAL LEARNING, WITH THAT AS WELL.
[00:45:02]
DEVELOPING THAT OURSELVES IS LESS IMPORTANT NOW BECAUSE FRANKLY THERE'S A LOT OF CONTENT AND A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY OUT THERE SINCE THE PANDEMIC THAT IS GROWN TO ABOUT 70%.THEREFORE, WHAT WE ARE LOOKING AT IS HOW DO WE BETTER ALIGN OURSELVES TO MEET THIS NEEDS OF STUDENTS.
WE HISTORICALLY TRUSTY RITTER WE DIDN'T EMPHASIZE ONLINE DEGREES.
I SHARED WITH THE BOARD AS WE CONTEMPLATE THE MOVE TO DALLAS COLLEGE WE ONLY HAD TWO CREW DENTIALS THAT WE INTENTIONALLY CREATED TO OFFER FULLY ONLINE.
BUT AS WE GO INTO IT WE REALIZED THAT IF WE CONSOLIDATING THE 7 COLLEGES, WE ACTUALLY HAD OUT THERE THE CONTENT FOR ABOUT 40 COURSES ONLINE.
WE WOULDN'T HAVE DONE IT BECAUSE SOMEONE OTHER BY CEDAR VALLEY OTHER BY NORTH LAKE OR EASTVILLE.
BY BRINGING ALL THAT TOGETHER, WE CAN NOW REACT IN A VERY DIFFERENT WAY.
OUR DIGITAL LEARNING AND ONLINE LEARNING HEADED UP BETTERY DEPAO NOW IS LEVERAGES THE RESOURCES WE HAVE LA CROIX AND ELSEWHER BUT ALSO RECOGNIZING A LOT OF WHAT WE USED TO DO THERE IS NO LONGER NECESSARY.
BECAUSE OF THE WAY THE INDUSTRY HAS EINVOLVED AND MOVED.
NOW WHAT WE NEED TO DO GO FACULTY AND STUDENTS WITH THE SKILL SET TO BE ABLE TO ENSURE LEARNING.
YOU KNOW IT'S BEEN A LITTLE BIT UNEVEN FOR US.
WITH DEPENDING ON FACULTY MEMBER AND THE COURSE HOW SUCCESSFUL OUR STUDENTS WERE.
WE REALLY WANT ALL STUDENTS TO BE SUCCESSFUL REGARDLESS OF THE FORMAT.
THAT'S NOT THE CASE BECAUSE THAT'S NOT THE EMPHASIS.
GOING FORWARD IT'S ONE ON QUALITY AND HOW WE MEET THE NEEDS.
AND LEVERAGE EXISTING HIGH-QUALITY RESOURCES THAT PUBLISHERS AND FRANKLY OPEN SOURCE PROVIDERS SUCH AS RICE UNIVERSITY AND OTHERS ARE MAKING AVAILABLE.
>> DOES THAT ANSWER THE QUESTION?
>> I GUESS I TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHETHER YOU KNOW THE LA CROIX CENTER AS IT HAS BEEN IN THE PAST WILL BE MORE OF A PUBLIC FACING ENTITY THAT ACGREATGATES ALL OF THE DISTRICT DIGITAL CONTENT DEVELOPEDOR THE YEAR WITH SINGLER PLACE.
OR YOU KNOW WHETHER IT WILL BE MORE INTERNAL RESOURCE AND TRAINING FOR OUR FACULTY AND STAFF IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DIGITAL CONTENT.
OR SOME COMBINATION OF THE TWO?
THERE'S NOT AS MUCH OF THE NEED AS WE MOVE FORWARD.
HOW DO WE ROLLOUT AND ENSURE THE QUALITY.
HOW DO WE ENSURE A COMMON EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS WHICH WE HAVEN'T DONE HISTORICALLY, YOU KNOW, AT DEPENDING ON THE PLATFORM AND THE MATERIAL USED YOU COULD HAVE ONE SET OF MENUS FOR ONE COURSE AND COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SET OF MENUS FOR ANOTHER.
ANOTHER PIECE OF THIS WILL BE THE LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM RIGHT NOW WE USE FLAT BOARD.
THERE'S OTHERS OUT FROM THAT WE THINK PERHAPS ARE MORE STUDENT FRIENDLY, A LOT OF THE EXISTING PLATFORMS ARE HISTORIC PLATFORMS LEGACY PLATFORMS WERE DESIGNED TO BE SOMEWHAT FACULTY CENTRIC AND AROUND THAT NEED.
SO INCREASINGLY WE WILL LOOK HOW WE BETTER MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS.
>> I WAS CURIOUS WHEN YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT THE DIGITAL LEVEL OF TRAINING AND BOOK CLUBS THAT YOU HAD FOR SENIOR STAFF, WHAT IS IN THAT SAME REALM OF AREA THAT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR US AS BOARD MEMBERS TO LIKEWISE TAKE MAYBE A DIFFERENT VIEW OF DIFFERENT APPROACH TO SOME OF THE STUFF THAT WE COULD BE INVOLVED IN.
>> THAT'S A GREAT, GREAT QUESTION.
WHILE WE HAVE FOCUS AND PROVIDED TRAINING FOR THE BOARD.
IT REALLY HAS BEEN MORE NARROW I WILL FOCUSED ON TRUSTEES BUT OTHERS ON SPECIFIC TOPICS.
[00:50:01]
I AM VERY OPEN AS WE LOOK AT THE BOARD GOING FORWARD.WE HAVEN'T PROVIDED A LOT OF THESE ISSUES TO THE BOARD.
BUT CERTAINLY, I PERSONALLY THINK THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING TO DO.
AND WOULD LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THE BOARD TO MAKE THAT REALITY.
>> I KNOW OF VERY POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WE HAD SOMETHING LIKE THIS WAS TRANSITIONING HEALTHCARE.
KIND OF ENCOURAGEMENT TO GET THE BOARD MORE IN TUNE WHERE THE LEADERSHIP WAS HEADED AND IT MADE EVERYTHING WORK IN TRANSITION SMOOTHER BY BRINGING THE BOARD ALONG TO SOME OF THE DIFFERENT THINGS MORE FORWARD THINKING MAYBE THAN HAS BEEN IN THE PAST.
I WOULD ENCOURAGE THAT WE LOOK INTO THAT AND SEE IF THOSE OF US THAT I HAVE THE TIME OR WE HAVE VOLUNTEERS TO PARTICIPATE IN SOME OF PROGRAMS I THINK WOULD BE POSITIVE.
AND WHAT APPRECIATE THOUGHTS FROM YOU AND OTHERS.
AND HOW WE CAN BEST GO ABOUT AND SUPPORT THAT.
I MEAN, WE CERTAINLY HAVE SOME THOUGHTS IN THAT AREA.
I THINK THAT WOULD BE THERE AT THE BOARD AS ONCE THAT WILL -- WE CAN WE CAN DO THAT.
I ALWAYS WORRY A LITTLE BIT TOO.
I GUESS I'M SENSITIVE YOU KNOW.
I WAS THINKING TRUSTER RITTER YOU WERE PART OF THE CONVERSATION I DID WITH THE NORTH DALLAS CHAMBER AND I'M A LITTLE BIT AWARE.
I SUSPECT THERE WERE SOME THINGS I TOUCHED ON THERE YOU WEREN'T FULLY AWARE OF.
THAT CONVERSATION AND I WORRY ABOUT THINGS GOING ON THAT THE BOARD IS NOT AWARE OF AS WELL AS THAT'S OUT THERE.
YOU KNOW THE SPECIFICS WERE NOT THERE.
THE APPROACH THAT WE ARE TAKING TRUSTER BOYD, I THINK IS SOMETHING HELPFUL FOR ALL OF US TO BE ON THE SAME PAGE.
I FELT LIKE IT WAS TO INVEST IN THAT TIME FOR OUR LEADERSHIP.
BUT CLEARLY THE BOARD IS PART OF THAT LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE.
LET ME KIND OF JUST -- I'M GOING TO HIT A FEW THINGS.
YOU KNOW THE BOARD WAS WHERE THAT -- PART OF THE NEW ROLLOUT.
WE DID FINALLY ROLE OUT -- ROLL OUT THE FINANCIAL LABS GREAT SUCCESS AT RICHLAND.
WE WILL CONTINUE PROGRAMS LIKE THAT FOR HOW WE CAN BEST MEET THE NEEDS.
AFTER YOU KNOW TIMING IS EVERYTHING.
BUT AFTER WE DID A SUCCESSFUL PILOT WHICH INCLUDED AND PROVIDED STUDENTS WITH THE LEARNING MATERIALS ON DAY ONE DOING A 50% SAVINGS.
WE WERE ABLE TO LAUNCH THAT AND WE ESTIMATED THAT WE WENT FROM 43% OF OUR STUDENTS GETTING A LEARNING MATERIAL ON DAY ONE.
OVER 90% GETTING THEM ON DAY ONE.
SAVING THE STUDENTS ABOUT OVER 20 MILLION AND THE PROCESS.
YOU KNOW, CLEARLY, THIS ENVIRONMENT IS MORE DIFFICULT TO JUDGE THE IMPACT OF THAT BUT NO DOUBT I'M GETTING STUDENTS SOME MATERIALS WHEN THEY START CLASS IS GOING TO HAVE A BIG DIFFERENCE.
ONE I'M PARTICULARLY PROUD OF AND IT'S EASY TO MISS WHY THIS ONE MATTERS.
THAT WE AWARDED ALSO ROLLING BETWEEN OVER THE SUMMER IN AUGUST 2066 CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES TO DUAL-CREDIT PTEC AND EARLY CREDIT COLLEGE STUDENTS.
[00:55:01]
WE DEAL WITH TRANSITIONS OVER THE MONTHS OF SUMMER TO GET THOSE GRADUATES.BUT THE IMPORTANT THING HERE OF THESE 2066.
WHEN WE LOOK AT THE BACK GROUND.
WE WOULD HAVE PREDICTED ONLY 23 OF THEM WOULD HAVE EARNED ANY TYPE OF AWARD.
I WANT TO STRESS THIS IS A BIG DEAL.
AND WHILE WE AWARDED THIS, WHICH IS MORE THAN THE COMPLETE NUMBER OF GRADUATES AT MOST COLLEGES.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE THIS GROWEN IN A PANDEMIC AT POST PANDEMIC ENVIRONMENT.
AS WE CONTINUED INTO SEPTEMBER -- LET'S GO AHEAD.
THERE'S A BREAK OUT SLIDE FOR AUGUST.
IF YOU WOULD PULL THAT UP, PLEASE.
THIS JUST EMPHASIZES THE IMPACT OF PTEC THAT I WAS JUST MENTIONING.
THESE WERE NOT SCREENED ON AM DECK IMAGES.
THEY WERE SCREENED BASED ON DEMOGRAPHIC.
OUR GOALS TO BRING IN STUDENT THAT MIRRORED THE COMMUNITY.
THIS GROUP REPRESENTED THE FIRST COHORT OF STUDENTS COMING FROM THE 8TH GRADE INTO THE NINTH GRADE.
ROUGHLY A LITTLE BIT OVER 1,000 OR 1700 AT THIS POINT.
AND TO SEE 72% OF THOSE STUDENT GET A POST SECONDARY CREDENTIAL WHEN WE WOULD HAVE PREDICTED ONLY 9%.
I THINK THAT'S REMARKABLE TRANSFORMATION OF LIVES AND THE IMPACT ON THEIR FAMILIES AND THE COMMUNITY.
WE HAVE MORE PTEC THAN ANY OTHER COLLEGES IN THE NATION.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO INVEST IN THE AREA.
THIS ALIGNED WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE.
I THINK WE GOT A SLIDE ON THAT COMING UP TOO.
THERE, WE JUST THOSE TWO REALLY WORKED TOGETHER AS TO HOW WE WE IMPACT.
YOU KNOW THIS YEAR WE IDENTIFIED IN THE FALL OF '19.
NEARLY 2300 IN THE SPRING OF 2020, 23,000.
AND JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW THOSE STUDENTS ARE.
AGAIN, WE TEND TO BE A LITTLE BIT HEAVY FEMALE.
CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE IN ALL CASES TO BRING MALES IN.
WE DO SEE A LOT OF SUCCESS WITH THESE STUDENTS.
AND WE DO AS YOU CAN SEE HERE SEE THE RACE ETHNICITY MIRRORING WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE SCHOOLS.
THIS DOESN'T NECESSARILY REFLECT THE COUNTY.
BUT IT DOES REFLECT THE SCHOOLS THAT WE'RE SERVING.
AND, AGAIN, ON THE DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE STUDENTS, HAVING A REAL IMPACT ON THE NUMBER OF DEGREES.
I WANT TO MENTION SOMETHING HERE.
THESE STUDENTED SELF SELECT INTO THE PROGRAM.
THE SAME IS TRUE WITH CREDIT COURSES AND OTHER.
WHAT WE END UP WITH PROMISE STUDENT THE STUDENTS THAT HADN'T THOUGHT ABOUT COLLEGED OR PREPARED.
WEREN'T IN PTEC, DIDN'T ENROLL IN EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL AND DIDN'T TAKE DUAL CREDIT.
THESE ARE AMONG THE MOST HIGHEST RISK STUDENT.
THIS THE PROGRAM THAT HELPS EVERYBODY ELSE.
AND IT'S ALSO HAVING AN IMPACT.
THE PTEC EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL EFFORT COMBINED WITH THE PROMISE PROGRAM IS REALLY AN EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SERVING ALL STUDENTS COMING OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL.
AND WE CONTINUE TO SEE RESULTS.
YOU SEE FOR THE MOST CURRENT YEAR OVER 1,000 DEGREES, AND ALMOST 1,000 CERTIFICATES IN THAT REGARD.
[01:00:02]
>> WE DON'T WANT TO LOSE GROUND ON THE PANDEMIC.
IT'S HARDER TO GET PLEDGES FROM THE STUDENT.
WE ARE STEPPING UP THE EFFORT TO DO THAT.
WE DON'T WANT TO LOSE GROUND ON THAT FRONT.
TRYING TO GET A FIGURE FOR THE PERCENTAGE OF TOTAL GRADUATES THAT COMING THROUGH PTEC EARLY COLLEGE AND THE PROMISE PROGRAM.
>> >> YOU'RE PROBABLY PRETTY CLOSE TO RIGHT.
IT WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THAT.
THE QUESTION IS DO WE NEED TO -- I KNOW WE ARE DOUBLING DOWN.
ARE THERE ANY CONSTRAINTS THAT THE COLLEGE IS FACING IN TERMS OF GROWING THE PROGRAM FURTHER.
WE COMMIT MAJOR BOND TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE CAPACITY FOR EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER CONSTRAINTS THE BOARD SHOULD BE AWARE OF THAT WE CAN HELP KNOCK DOWN SO THE PROGRAMS CAN CONTINUE TO GROW MORE? BECAUSE THE RESULTS ARE JUST SO COMPELLING AND YOU KNOW WE DON'T WANT TO CREATE ANY ARTIFICIAL CEILINGS FOR OURSELF.
>> THAT'S THE SPACE IS NUMBER ONE.
THANKS TO BOARD WE DID INVEST IN SOME RENOVATIONS THIS PAST YEAR.
WITH PAID FOR WITH OUR OWN DOLLARS TO MEET THE NEEDS.
BUT WE STILL HAVE A AS YOU MAY RECALL ALMOST A THIRD OF THE BOND DOLLARS WERE TO GO TO ACCOMMODATING THE NEEDS OVER PTEV AND EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS WITHIN OUR FACILITIES ACROSS THE ENTIRE DISTRICT.
I'M SURE THERE'S A LITTLE BIT OF ADJUSTMENTS IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE PANDEMIC, BUT WE WILL CONTINUE TO DOUBLE DOWN.
AND I HAD TO SPEND FOREVER ON WHY THIS IS SO IMPORTANT.
AND WHY IT WORKED AND WHY WE'RE ABLE TO HELP STUDENT GET DEGREES IF WE WAITED UNTIL THEY GRADUATED.
AS REMINDER WITH PROMISE WE STARTED WITH THE SCHOOLS THAT WERE THE WORST PERFORMING.
THAT HAD THE HIGHEST POVERTY RATES.
MEANING ALSO THEY HAD THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF STUDENTS ELIGIBLE FOR PELL GRANTS.
A BIG WAY THAT WE BEEN ABLE TO LEVERAGE THE RESOURCES OF THE FOUNDATION IS THROUGH PELL GRANTS.
AS WE NOW ADD MORE SCHOOLS, OUR GOSS GO UP DISPROPORTIONATELY AS WE MOVE INTO WEALTHIER DISTRICTS AND ELSEWHERE AS A RESULT OF THAT.
BECAUSE FEWER AND FEWER STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THE PELL GRANTS.
WE'RE BEING A LITTLE BIT MORE CAUTIOUS ON THE FOUNDATIONS SIDE AS WE ADD SCHOOLS MAKING SURE THAT WE'VE GOT THE RESOURCES TO KEEP OUR PROMISES TO THE STUDENTS.
WE STILL HAVE I WON'T GET THIS PERCENT.
LET'S SAY IT'S CLOSE TO 20% OF THE STUDENTS THAT ARE PELL ELIGIBLE NEVER GET THE PELL BECAUSE OF IRREGULARITIES IN HOW THE PARENTS FILED TAXES.
AND OTHER THINGS THAT ARE OUT THERE.
BUT THAT'S LESS OF A PROBLEM AS WE GET INTO THE DISTRICTS WITH HIGHER FAMILY INCOMES.
CAN YOU GIVE US A OFF-LINE WHEN WE GET AN OPPORTUNITY, CAN WE GET AN UPDATE ON THE OTHER DISTRICTS THAT YOU LOOKED AT, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE SOME OF OUR SUBURBAN DISTRICTS THAT ARE WELL QUALIFIED IF THAT AREA AS WELL AS PART OF DALLAS.
CAN WE KIND OF GET AN UPDATE ON WHAT THE GAME PLAN LOOKS LUKE FOR EXPANDING THAT PROGRAM WHICH HAS BEEN SO SUCCESSFUL.
>> I WILL JUST GIVE YOU, YOU KNOW SOUTH DALLAS WE'RE PRETTY WELL BLANKETED
[01:05:02]
EVERYTHING.AND THAT AREA REALLY SOUTH OF I-30.
AND WE WERE A LITTLE BIT SLOWER AND BASICALLY THE SCHOOL DISTRICT HAD TO BE WILLING PARTICIPANTS.
SOME OF THOSE WERE ALSO SLOW TO GET ENGAGEDEN THOUGH WE MADE THAT AVAILABLE.
THAT'S NOW NO LONGER A PROGRAM IN MIST MESQUITE.
GARLAND, RICHARDSON, IRVING, ELSEWHERE, BUT WE -- BUT ONE AREA THAT WE HAVE NOT EXPANDED IN THAT WE HOPED TO AT SOME POINT OR SOME OF THE CHARTER SCHOOLS AS WELL.
WE VICE PRESIDENT TOUCHED THOSE.
MOST OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT ARE NOT INVOLVED AND SOME JUST HAVE TOLD US THEY WILL NEVER BE.
AND A FEW OF THIS DISTRICTS THAT SERVE A HIGHER INCOME STUDENT BODY HAVE NOT FELT THE NEED TO DO THAT, ALTHOUGH WE'RE THERE AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO MAKE THAT AVAILABLE TO THEM.
FOR THE MOST PART, THOSE DISTRICTS HAVING STUDENTS WITH HIGH ECONOMIC NEED HAVE NOW SIGNED ON AND TO DO THAT, BUT AGAIN THE CHARTER SCHOOLS ARE ONES WE HAVEN'T TACKLED YET.
>> JUST KIND OF CONTINUE INTO SEPTEMBER AS WE STARTED THE NEW YEAR WITH THE NEED GOING ON WE DID DRAMATICALLY RAM UP IN TERM OF SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANT AWARDS TO STUDENTS THAT WE MADE AVAILABLE THESE ARE NOT FEDERAL DOLLARS.
SOME OF THOSE WERE BACKFILLED WHEN CARES ACT DOLLARS AND OTHERS.
WE -- AGAIN, ANNOUNCED ONE AGAINST WE WOULD BE MOSTLY ONLINE FOR THE SPRING OF '21.
EVEN THOUGH WE BUILT A SCHEDULE THAT WAS OREMPHASIZED IN PERSON.
WE OF COURSE HOPE THAT STILL WILL BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH SOME OF THAT.
THAT'S SIMPLY NOT THE CASE THAT TIME.
AND WHAT I'M ALSO PARTICULARLY PROUD OF IS A NEW BREED OF GRANTS AND PARTNERSHIPS THAT WE STARTED TO BRING IN.
I WILL JUST MENTION ON HERE THE BANK OF AMERICA.
WHERE THEY PROVIDED A MILLION DOLLARS TO REALLY WORK DIRECTLY WITH US AND FRANKLY THEMSELVES AS WELL TO BOTH CREATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES, PROMOTING RACIAL EQUALITY AND ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND HOPEFULLY BEING ABLE TO HIRE THOSE GRADUATES WITHIN THE BANK OF AMERICA.
BUT ALSO BRINGING TOGETHER OTHERS IN THAT REGARD.
WHAT WE'RE REALLY LOOKING TO DO WE CALL IT THE EFFORT, HOW DO WE CREATE A PROGRAM SO STUDENTS BASICALLY ENROLL IN THE JOB.
THAT'S THE CONVERSATION THAT WE WERE HAVING WITH BANK OF AMERICA, REALLY APPRECIATE THEIR PARTNERSHIP AND I SAID WE'RE BUILDING OUT OTHERS AS WELL.
>> YOU ALREADY BLOOMBERG FINANCE LAB.
WHEN ARE WE ONBOARD FOR THAT TO OPEN AT THE OTHER CAMPUSES? DO WE HAVE CAMPUSES IN THE SOUTHERN SECTOR THAT WILL BE OFFERING THAT WILL HAVE THIS PROGRAM?
BUT OF COURSE NOW THAT WE ARE ONE COLLEGE.
WE WORK COLLECTIVELY ACROSS THAT.
WE'LL BE SUPPORTING STUDENTS THROUGHOUT THE REGION IN THAT EFFORT.
WE DO NOW ONE OF THE CHALLENGES WE HAD WAS A FACULTY CREDENTIAL ISSUE AT SOME OF THE CAMPUSES AND CERTAINLY, THAT SOLVED FOR ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS NOW THAT WE'RE DALLAS COLLEGE.
NOT JUST WITH BLOOMBERG BUT OTHER INITIATIVES AS WELL.
>> COULD I GET INFORMATION ON THAT PARTICULAR PROGRAM.
I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE IN IT THE COMMUNITY.
I THINK IT'S A FASCINATING PROGRAM.
GREAT JOB OPPORTUNITY, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE JUST IN WEST LAKE IN ABOUT A MILE, 17,000 JOBS HERE IN THE AREA THAT UTILIZED THAT TECHNOLOGY.
[01:10:03]
>> A LOT OF COMPANIES ARE LOOKING TO INVEST IN RACIAL EQUITY INITIATIVES NOW.
THEY DON'T KNOW HOW QUITE THE DO IT.
AND I WOULD ARGUE THAT YOU KNOW THERE'S NO BETTER PLACE TO INVEST.
DO WE KEEP PROGRAM METRICS AROUND ETHNIC PARTICIPATION.
FOR EXAMPLE, DO WE KNOW HISPANIC AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND ASIAN PARTICIPATION, PTEC WHERE THE BANK OF AMERICA TYPE PROGRAMS. YOU CAN EXTRAPOLATE THAT BY THE BROAD POPULATION DEMOGRAPHICS AS STUDENT BODY AS A WHOLE.
I WONDER IF WE ARE MORE GRANULAR CAN BE MORE GRANULAR OR SHOULD BE MORE GRANULAR IN TERMS OF THE PROGRAMS. YEAH.
I MEAN, WE DO TRACK THE AND WE HAVE THAT INFORMATION AND DATA AND DATABASES, WE DON'T ROUTINELY JUST BREAK THAT OUT.
THAT CERTAINLY HAS TO BE A PART OF ALL OF OUR THINKING AS WE LOOK AT HOW TO MEET THE NEED.
WE THINK THIS IS AN AREA WHERE WE CAN BE A GREAT PARTNER.
WHAT WE -- WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT PARTICULARLY INDIVIDUALS COMING OUT OF POVERTY AND LOW SOCIAL OWE ECONOMIC BACKGROUND.
AND NOT A LOT OF TRUST POST SECONDARY EDUCATION.
THE MORE DIRECTLY WE CAN CONNECT PEOPLE TO WHERE THEY ARE TO A JOB, THE MORE LIKELY THEY ARE GOING TO COME WITH A PART OF THAT.
SOME IS EASIER TO TRANSLATE, WHICH IS WHY WE DO THAT A LOT AND LIKE THE CONSTRUCTION AREA.
WHERE WE PARTNER WITH A VARIETY OF FOLKS, BECAUSE THEY CAN EASILY MAKE THAT CONNECTION TRAINING JOB AND GET THAT STARTED.
IT'S NOT AS EASY IN TECHNOLOGY AREAS.
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO GET TO.
THAT'S PART OF THE EVEN THE EFFORT WITH AMAZON AND SOME OF THE OTHER TECH COMPANIES, THAT, THAT'S REALLY WHAT THAT IS ABOUT.
IF YOU COULD PICK UP THE PACE.
WE'RE ACTUALLY ALL THE WAY DO OCTOBER.
WE'RE NEARING THE CATCHING UP.
AND YOU KNOW AS WE GOT INTO OCTOBER -- I'M REALLY PROUD THAT EVEN WITH THE PANDEMIC, WE WERE CONTINUING TO BE HAVE OUR SIGHTS OPEN FOR EARLY VOTINGS.
WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO DO THAT.
BEING RESOURCE TO PROMOTE CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
KIND OF RELATED TO EQUITY ISSUE, WE DID RECEIVE ABOUT 9 MILLION FROM THE U.S.
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR -- TO SUPPORT US AS HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTION ALTHOUGH IT CAME IN BASED ON OUR CAMPUSES AND THEIR COMPOSITION.
WHAT THAT ALLOWS US TO DO IS TO PROVIDE SPECIAL WRAP AROUND SERVICES AND SUPPORT FOR MANY OF OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE CHALLENGED BECAUSE OF THEIR BACKGROUND.
AS WE MOVE INTO THE NOVEMBER, AGAIN, WE HOSTED A COMMUNITY TOWN HALLS.
AND AS WE MOVED INTO THANKSGIVING AND WE SEE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF CASES, THAT WERE ARISING AS A RESULT.
I MIGHT ALSO -- IF COULD WOULD, PEARL PULL UP THE BREAK OUT OF THIS SLIDE.
AND THAT WE AS WE MOVED INTO THIS ROUND OF ONLINE LEARNING, WE HAVE LEARNED A LOT FROM BACK IN MARCH.
AND WE MADE A LOT OF CHANGES AT THIS POINT.
WE HAD CENTRALIZED OUR SCHEDULING AND COORDINATION.
[01:15:04]
THIS WAS IMPORTANT NOT ONLY AS ONE COLLEGE, BUT AS WE WERE MOVING MORE TO ONLINE WE REALLY NEEDED TO MAKE SURE THAT WE MANAGING THAT SO THE STUDENTS HAD THE RIGHT NUMBER OF CLASSES THAT THEY NEEDED AND THAT WE WERE OFFERING SO MANY SECTIONS THAT ITS CONFUSING.WE ACTUALLY REDUCED SECTIONS BY ABOUT 40% FOR THE SPRING WHILE STILL MEETING THE OVERALL NEED.
WE CLEANED UP THE DUPLICATION AND OVERLAP OF PROGRAMS AS WE GOT INTO THIS PROCESS, EVALUATED PROGRAMS, AS WE WERE MOVING INTO THIS ENVIRONMENT.
SET UP, AGAIN, OUR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR FACULTY.
AND CONTINUED TO WORK TO BUILD OUT NEW PROGRAMS. FOR EXAMPLE, WE ARE PARTNERING WITH UT SOUTHWESTERN ON TELE-HEALTH PROGRAM.
OBVIOUSLY, TYING INTO THE PANDEMIC, TYING INTO WHERE WE SEE THE FUTURE AND EXPANDED OUR SUPPORT OF FACULTY WITH OUR CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE.
I WANT THE TELL YOU WE JUST DID IN NOVEMBER WHEN WE SHIFTED BACK TO ONLINE, IT WASN'T IN THE SAME MANNER THAT WE DID BACK IN THE SPRING.
IT WAS BEING VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT A NUMBER OF ASPECTS OF THAT INCLUDING THE FOLLOW UP WITH STUDENTS.
WHICH THEN THAT BRINGS US DECEMBER.
WHEN WE HIRED A NEW PRESIDENT AT EL CENTRO.
REALLY ALSO VERY PROUD OF OUR OFFICE OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY THAT WAS LAUNCHED AND REALLY HAVE SOME HIGH EXPECTATIONS OF THAT AREA ON THE NUMBER OF FRONTS.
I MENTION THE STUDENT SERVICES OFFERED DURING THE HOLIDAY BREAK.
WE JUST HAD AN AMAZING TEAM THAT, THAT WORKED TO MOOT THE NEED OF STUDENT AND KEEP THEM CONNECTED DURING THAT TIME.
YOU WANT TO HIT THE NEXT SLIDE THERE IF YOU WOULD.
I WILL TOUCH ON THAT AND WRAP UP.
IN TERMS OF ENROLLMENT, THUS FAR, HOW MUCH ARE WE DOWN OR WE EVEN, WHERE ARE WE?
>> WE CONTINUE TO BE DOWN AMONG CERTAIN POPULATIONS.
WE TEND TO -- I THINK WE'RE AHEAD FROM WHAT I CAN TELL ON THE STATE.
MOST INSTITUTIONS TWO-YEAR COLLEGES DOWN DOUBLE DIGITS.
WE -- WE'RE MAINLY SEEING THE DROP IN FIRST-TIME STUDENTS.
WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE PUTTING A LOT OF OUR EFFORT TO OUTREACH.
WE'VE DONE A PRETTY GOOD JOB OF BRINGING BACK EXISTING STUDENTS BUT BOY, THIS HAS TAKEN THE TOLL ON INDIVIDUALS THAT WE HAD NO YET ENROLLED.
AND THAT'S BEEN THE BULK OF OUR EFFORTS AND FRANKLY THAT'S THE BULK OF THE LOSS ACROSS THE COUNTRY IS JUST INDIVIDUALS THAT HADN'T GONE TO COLLEGE AREN'T COMING.
>> EVEN THE DALLAS PROMISE STUDENTS.
>> EVEN THE DALLAS PROMISE STUDENTS.
WE'RE STRUGGLING THIS YEAR EVEN GETTING THEM TO PLEDGE.
IT'S LIKE MOTIVATION HAS JUST BEEN ZAPPED FROM THE STUDENTS.
AND HOPE HAS BEEN ZAPPED FROM THEM.
EVEN WHEN WE MAKE IT AVAILABLE.
WE'RE HAVING TO WORK TEN TIMES AS HARD AS WE HAVE IN THE PAST.
AND IT'S REALLY A CREDIT TO AS PART OF WHAT OUR FOLKS WERE DOING OVER THE BREAK JUST TO ROUND-THE-CLOCK, MAKING SURE THAT WE FOLLOWED UP ON EVERY PHONE CALL.
THAT WE ANSWERED EVERY E-MAIL, THAT EVERY REQUEST CAME IN THAT WE FOLLOWED UP AND THEN WE WERE CONSTANTLY REACHING OUT TO FOLKS.
FORMALLY OVER BREAKS, WE WOULD HAVE GIVEN FOLKS A LITTLE BIT OF TIME OFF.
WE DIDN'T THIS YEAR AT ALL MAINLY BECAUSE WE'RE TRYING TO REACH THIS POPULATION.
YOU SAY MOST ARE DOWN IN DOUBLE BUDGETS.
>> I THINK IN THE LAST TIME ALL SAY FIRST TIME STUDENTS WE WERE DOWN ABOUT 7%.
THE EXISTING STUDENTS I THINK WE WERE CLOSE TO EVEN OR DOWN 1%.
[01:20:01]
I DON'T HAVE THE TOTAL, BUT REALLY NOT TRACKING THAT ON BREAK OUT BASIS OF THOSE POPULATIONS.>> AND ARE WE SURVEYING THE STUDENTS THAT DIDN'T ENROLL TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT THEIR BARRIERS WERE TO HELP US BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW POSSIBLY WE CAN ADDRESS THEM?
AND THAT'S REALLY INTERESTING.
BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINANCIAL.
THEY SIDED PERSONAL ISSUES SUCH AS LOSING THEIR JOB, ISSUES WITH HOUSING INSECURITY.
OTHER ISSUES AROUND TRANSPORTATION AND THEIR CAR.
SOME WITH TECHNOLOGY WHERE -- WHERE THERE AS WELL.
WE'RE HOPEFUL THE NEW CARES ACT WILL HELP.
THE RULES -- FRANKLY, MORE PROBLEMATIC.
IN THAT WE COULDN'T GIVE THEM TO STUDENTS TO PAY TUITION AND WE COULDN'T -- WE COULD GIVE TO PAY RENT BUT NOT TUITION.
AND SO NOT THAT, THAT WAS A BIG BARRIER, BUT JUST SIMPLY BEING ABLE TO ENGAGE STUDENTS UP FRONT AND SAY WE HAVE A PACKAGE FOR YOU, THAT INCLUDES THESE OPTIONS.
BUT THE NEW ONE IS ADDRESSING THAT ISSUE.
AND I THINK WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO VERY QUICKLY AS WE GET THAT UP R AND RUNNING.
I WISH WE EMPTY THIS IN DECEMBER INSTEAD OF JANUARY.
BUT STILL, WE'LL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT.
IT'S GOOD THAT WE'VE DONE TAKEN THE DIFFERENT MEASURES WE HAVE.
TO MITIGATE SOME OF THE LOSS IN ENROLLMENT.
BUT TO FIND OUT DIRECTLY FROM THE STUDENTS WHAT THEIR ISSUED ARE.
WE DID ABOUT 76,000 WELLNESS CHECKS.
AND WE DO THAT WITH TEXT PHONE CALLS, AND OTHER THINGS.
YOU KNOW, FOR THE MOST PART FOLKS ARE APPRECIATIVE.
WE GET FEW WHY ARE YOU BOTHERING US.
BUT THAT'S BEEN VERY HELPFUL AS WE IN THE WELLNESS CHECK UNCOVER BARRIERS, THINGS WE CAN DO TO HELP.
WE'VE EXTENDED OUR HOURS NOW WORKING WITH STUDENTS UNTIL MIDNIGHT TO TRY TO ADDRESS THEIR NEEDS.
CONTINUE TO BE MORE VIRTUALLY FRIENDLY.
AS I SAID OVER THE WINTER BREAK HANDLED 1600 CALLS.
200 ADMISSION APPLICATION, TRANSCRIPTS, GAVE OUT FINANCIAL AID AWARD.
AWARDED 250,000 IN EMERGENCY AIDE.
AND JUST HELPING EVEN WITH OUR CRISIS LINE WITH WITH STUDENTS.
DOING THE WORK THAT WE CAN TO GET THEM ENROLLED.
LET'S CONTINUE AND WE'LL WRAP THIS UP.
>> I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.
>> WE'VE ASKED AND THIS HAS BEEN MENTIONED A NUMBER OF TIMES OBSERVE OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS ABOUT CHARTER SCHOOLS.
DO WE MAKE RECRUITMENT EFFORT WITH CHARTER SCHOOLS.
AND IN FACT WE WORKED WITH THEM, ALTHOUGH WE'RE VERY MUCH AWARE, TOO, THAT WE WANTED TO GET THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS FIRST.
PARTLY TRUSTEE COMPTON BECAUSE ADVERSARIAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SCHOOL AND CHARTER SCHOOL.
THEY SEE THEM AS DIRECT THREAT.
WE SEE THEM AS SERVING STUDENTS.
WE WANTED TO REASSURE OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL PARTNERS, WE WERE PAYING ATTENTION TO THEM AND MEETING THEIR NEEDS.
AND THEN BEFORE WE MOVED INTO THE CHARTER SCHOOL AREA.
IT WAS MADE CLEAR TO US BY SEVERAL SUPERINTENDENTS THAT THEY SEE AS COMPETITION, AND PARTICULARLY IN TIMES LIKE THIS.
WE'RE SENSITIVE TO THE FEELINGS OUT THERE.
WE'RE SENSITIVE THAT STUDENTS SEE THE NEED.
WE WILL SERVE THEM BUT WE HAVE PUT THE ISD'S AS PRIORITY.
BUT NOW THAT WE'RE WORKING THROUGH ALL OF THOSE WE WILL BE WORKING ON CHARTER
[01:25:07]
SCHOOLS.ABOUT THE PERCEPTION AND WHAT THE ISSUES ARE BETWEEN THE TWO.
BUT OUR GOAL TO SERVE ALL OF THE STUDENTS IN DALLAS COUNTY.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT GIVES ME SOME CONCERN IS THAT YOU'RE MISSING A LOT OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDENTS.
IF YOU DON'T GO TO THE CHARTER SCHOOLS.
YOU ARE NOT PUTTING IN A LOT OF EFFORT.
THIS HAS BEEN MENTIONED A NUMBER OF TIMES.
AND WE KEEP GETTING PROMISES BUT NOTHING CONCRETE HAS HAPPENED.
AND I WILL ASK YOU, AGAIN, WHAT IS THE PRIORITY?
WELL, CLEARLY, THE ISD WERE THE FIRST PRIORITY.
IN TERMS OF US MEETING THE NEEDS.
WE ALWAYS SAID THAT WE WOULD BE WORKING WITH CHARTER SCHOOLS.
AND SO WE'VE ACTUALLY STARTED THAT WITH A FEW THIS YEAR.
WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF WE'LL BE ADDING IT TO EXPANDING THAT AS WE GO FORWARD.
AND THE FOLK AT THE PROMISE PROGRAM ARE VERY EAGER TO WORK WITH US ON THAT.
THAT REALLY IS -- I WOULD SAY GET THE NEXT FEW PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT WE STILL NEED TO GET, AND THEN REALLY BEGIN TO ROLL OUT THE CHARTER SCHOOLS.
>> WELL, I WOULD LIKE A MORE CONCRETE ANSWER WHAT DATE YOU LOOK AT AND WHAT YOU PLAN TO DO.
WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBERS, THAT YOU'VE BEEN CITING, PUBLIC SCHOOLS HAVE BEEN THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY.
I MEAN -- THE NUMBERS SPEAK TO THAT.
I WOULD LIKE TO SEE PLAN FOR WHAT YOU WANT THE DO AND WHEN YOU PLAN TO DO IT.
>> WELL, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH FOUNDATION BOARD ON THAT WHO DOES PROVIDE THE DOLLARS FOR THE EXPANSION.
THEIR INITIAL GOAL WAS THEY WERE WILLING TO FUND SCHOOLS WHERE AT LEAST 50% OF THE SCHOOLS ARE FROM A PUBLIC SCHOOL PER TICKET THINK THAT WILL CORE MING OUT OF POVERTY.
WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE BOARD SINCE THOSE ARE PRIVATE DOLLARS THAT WILL MAKE THAT PROGRAM POSSIBLE IN USING THE FOUNDATION RESOURCES.
BUT THIS HAS BEEN A DISCUSSION THAT WE'VE HAD WITH THEM AS WELL.
>> DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION VISIT CHAIR RITTER?
TRUSTY RITTER, DID YOU HAVE A QUESTION.
YOU CAN SEE WHAT WE DID AS WE CARRY THIS OUT.
WE HAVE MODIFIED OUR GOING BACK TRUSTEE FLORES TO YOUR QUESTION.
WE FOUND OUR PAYMENT PLAN WAS A PROBLEM.
WE MODIFIED THAT TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR STUDENTS THIS SPRING.
WE HAVE BEEN DOING MORE SESSIONS AVAILABLE MAKING THAT AVAILABLE ONE OF THE THINGS WE DO AS WELL AS DOING SURVEYS AND HOW WELL WE'RE MEETING THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS AS THEY ARE COMING IN, THIS HAS BEEN SOMETHING YOU'VE MENTIONED BEFORE.
WE'RE TRACKING THAT VERY, VERY CAREFULLY NOW.
THE OTHER THING I WANT TO MENTION AS THERE'S BEEN A FAIRLY DRAMATIC INCREASE IN REQUEST FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND CRISIS MANAGEMENT.
WE ARE NOW PARTNERING WITH THAT.
AND DO THAT ON 24-HOUR BASIS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO MEET THE NEED.
WE DO CONTRACT THAT WITH A THIRD PARTY TO MAKE THAT AVAILABLE.
I THIS I THE ONLY THING THAT WE HAVE JUST WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT LATER TODAY.
BUT JUST SETTLE THE LAWSUIT OVER AND WE'LL -- WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THE
[01:30:01]
OPPORTUNITY TO MOVE FORWARD.AND MADAM CHAIR, THAT CONCLUDES, MY BRIEF OVERVIEW.
>> I KNOW THAT AN HOURS NEARLY NOT ENOUGH TIME TO DISCUSS EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED.
BUT THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUMMARY OF IT.
>> AND SO WE WILL TAKE FIVE-MINUTE BREAK.
SO WE CAN GET THE NEXT PRESENTATION SET UP.
>> COULD YOU TAKE A ROLL CALL TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS BACK?
WE ARE RESUMING DALLAS COLLEGE WORK SESSION.
WE WILL BEGIN WITH A ROLL CALL.
>> I CAN CONFIRM A QUORUM ALL TRUSTEES ARE PRESENT FOR THIS MEETING.
JUST FOR HOUSEKEEPING MATTERS.
IT'S 11:40 GO AFTER 12:00 TO FINISH THE SESSION.
[6. Review of Board Mission & Strategic Priorities Presenter: Mary Brumbach]
WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO AN HOUR BREAK FOR LUNCH.IT MAY BE AFTER 12:00 BEFORE WE DO THAT.
WE WILL HAVE DR. MARY BRUMBACH REVIEW OF BOARD MISSION AND STRAIK PRIORITIES FOR 2020 AND 2021.
>> THIS PART OF OUR PLANNING SESSION PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO CONSIDER OUR CURRENT MISSION AND PURPOSES AS WELL AS THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2020 AND 2021.
WE WILL REVIEW CURRENT GOALS FOR FUR MAJOR DIVISIONS.
ACADEMIC, STUDENT SEC SESSION, WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT AND OPERATIONS AS DR. MAY MENTIONED WE WILL TALK ABOUT THESE KIND OF ORGANIZATIONS RATHER THAN 7 SEPARATE COLLEGES.
AS YOU KNOW, MISSION AND PURPOSE STATEMENT ARE DESIGN TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION WHY DOES THIS ORGANIZATION EXIST.
THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES ARE DESIGNED TO COMMUNICATE THE EXPECTATION AND THE BOARD.
AS THE MISSION AND PURPOSES ARE IMPLEMENTED BY DALLAS COLLEGE.
THE TEAM I WORK WITH STRATEGIC INITIATIVE WORKS WITH NUMEROUS EXTERNAL ORGANIZATION TO HELP FRAME THEIR FUTURE.
ONE OF THE MOST CLARIFYING QUESTION IN THIS PROCESS IS WHAT WOULD BE THE IMPACT IF YOU DIDN'T EXIST? NOW, GIVEN WHAT DR. MAY HAS GONE THROUGH IN TERMS OF HAS HAPPENED JUST IN THE LAST YEAR WITH THE NEW INSTITUTION THAT WE ARE.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO DALLAS COUNTY.
IT'S COMMUNITIES AND STUDENTS AND ITS EMPLOYERS IF DALLAS COLLEGE DID NOT EXIST? IF YOU HAVE ANY QUICK OBSERVATIONS WE WILL TAKE THEM ON.
WHAT WOULD THE IMPACT BE IF WE WEREN'T HERE? ANY THOUGHTS?
>> I DOUBT SERIOUSLY I WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH WITH FULL EDUCATION.
MY EDUCATION AT EAST FIELD BASICALLY GOT ME ON THE WAY TO A FULL DEGREE.
A LOT OF STUDENTS THAT HAVE GOTTEN THEIR EDUCATION AND THEIR SKILLS TRAINING THROUGH US WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THAT OPPORTUNITY.
SO I THINK WE WOULD HAVE A MUCH MORE POUR IN TERMS OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES POPULATION IN DALLAS COUNTY BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T HAVE HAD BENEFITTED -- THOSE THAT DIDN'T GO TO UNIVERSITY WOULDN'T HAVE HAD EITHER THEIR CERTIFICATE OR ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE SKILL TRAINING THROUGH US.
>> THANK YOU ANY OTHER THOUGHTS?
>> I WOULD SAY AS MANY COMPANIES LOCATED IN THE DALLAS COUNTY AREA WOULD BE LACKING WORKFORCE BECAUSE WE'RE BIG PROVIDER OF THAT WORKFORCE.
>> KEEPING THOSE IN MIND, LET'S GO TO THE FIRST SLIDE.
THE MISSION AND PURPOSE OF DALLAS COLLEGE IS TO TRANSFORM LIVES AND COMMUNITIES THROUGH HIGHER EDUCATION.
FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE DOES THIS CAPTURE OUR OVERALL REASON FOR EXISTING? ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS?
>> YOU TALK -- DID YOU ASK ABOUT OUR MISSION STATEMENT WAS IT STILL APPROPRIATE.
>> I THINK IT'S VERY APPROPRIATE AND VERY DYNAMIC.
>> ANY OTHER THOUGHTS ON THAT?
[01:35:09]
ONE IS EXTERNALLY FACING THE OTHER IS INTERNALLY FACING.
THE FIRST ONE IS ENSURE DALLAS COUNTY VIBRANT ROARING ECONOMICALLY VIABLE FOR FUTURE AND CURRENT GENERATION.
IT'S A HEAVY LEFT COMING OUT OF WHAT WE ARE COMING OUT OF.
THE SECOND PROVIDE A TEACHING AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT THAT EXCEEDS LEARNER EXPECTATIONS AND MEETS THE NEEDS OF OUR COMMUNITIES AND EMPLOYERS.
AGAIN, ARE THESE APPROPRIATE? IS THIS WHAT AND WHY WE EXIST?
>> I WOULD ADD A WORD ON THE SECOND PURPOSE.
>> THEY ARE ALSO CONSTITUENTS OF THE ORGANIZATION.
WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE THE BEST PREPARED POSSIBLE TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN THE 21ST CENTURY ENVIRONMENT.
>> WE WILL CERTAINLY TAKE THAT IN.
I THINK SOMETHING THAT I FEEL THAT'S ONE OF OUR GREATEST OPPORTUNITIES WITH ENSURING AND PROVIDING IS ASSUMING IN A FOOTBALL TERM DALLAS COLLEGE HAS TO BE THE QUARTERBACK.
I THINK -- I THINK THAT SOME OF THE TIMES THAT A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO HAPPEN IN OUR COMMUNITY THE THINGS THAT WE WANT TO DELIVER AS A COLLEGE DOESN'T HAPPEN BECAUSE THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE CALLING THE PLAYS.
AND SO I FEEL LIKE THAT ONE OF OUR FOCUSES HAS TO BE TO REALLY STEP UP AND NOT ONLY JUST ENSURE AND PROVIDE BUT TO ASSUME THE LEADERSHIP ROLE OF QUARTERBACK FOR DALLAS COUNTY AND DIRECTING THE EFFORTS THAT WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DELIVER AND THE NEED OF ALL THE CURRENT COMPANIES AND FUTURE COMPANIES THAT ARE GOING TO BE LOOKING TO SECONDARY EDUCATION FOR SUPPLYING THE NEW EMPLOYEE -- EMPLOYEES OF THE FUTURE AS WELL AS CURRENT EMPLOYEES.
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE US REALLY START TO STEPPING UP AND THE COUNTY GOVERNMENT AND CITY GOVERNMENTS AND EVERYTHING.
WE ARE THE ONES THAT ARE GOING TO HOLD IT TOGETHER.
AND REALLY PUT OUR TEAM TOGETHER BUT LET'S BE THE LEADER NOT JUST EMPLOYER.
>> TRUSTEE, BOYD, YOU DON'T THINK THAT IS ADDRESSED IN THE FIRST PURPOSE? OR POSSIBLY TWEAK THE WORDING A BIT?
>> YOU MEAN THE WORD ENSURE? YOU KNOW, INSURANCE O WORD THAT'S DONE FINANCIALLY WITH ENERGY.
BUT I DON'T KNOW TO ME IT'S JUST THAT HAVING BEEN AROUND THE COUNTY FOR 40-PLUS YEARS UNTIL ONE ENTITY WITHIN THE COUNTY TIPS TO TAKE THE -- THE VERY OWNERSHIP OF SOMETHING.
IT TENDS TO HAVE A LOT OF WASTED ENERGY BY A LOT OF THE PLAYERS.
>> POSSIBLY CHANGE ENSURE TO LEAD AND THEN TWEAK THE WORDING.
WOULD OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THINK THAT WAS PRESUMTIOUS OF US? I THINK YOU MAKE A GOOD POINT AND POSSIBLY IF WE COULD TWEAK THE WORDING ON THAT FIRST PURPOSE.
AND GET SENSE WHERE WE ARE HEADED WITH IT.
WE WOULD FEEL LIKE WE WERE STEPPING IN OTHER PEOPLE'S WORLDS.
BUT THAT LEADERSHIP ROLE IS ONE THAT WE ARE ASSUMING IN MANY WAYS.
LET US WORK WITH THAT AND WE WILL COME BACK TO YOU ON THAT.
IT MAY ALSO BE ADDRESSED IN THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.
ONE OF THE THINGS WE DO WITH STRATEGIC PRIORITIES, IS AGAIN THIS IS FRAME OF ALL THE WORK THAT DALLAS COLLEGE DOES AND IT HAS BEEN FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS NOW.
AND, IN FACT, WE HAVE FOUND THEM TO BE EXTREMELY AGILE EVEN FROM THE PANDEMIC ON HOW WE ADDRESS THEM.
THE FIRST TIME PACT INCOME DISPARITY THROUGHOUT OUR COMMUNITY.
IT DEALS NOT ONLY WITH POVERTY BUT DEALS WITH SMALL BUSINESS AND A WHOLE HOST OF THINGS.
THEY COME INTO THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A BIFURCATED ECONOMY IN DALLAS COUNTY.
[01:40:01]
WE SEE IT EVERY DAY.THIS ONE RIDES THROUGH A LONG WAY.
THE NEXT PRIORITY IS STREAMLINE SUPPORT NAVIGATION THROUGH OUR COLLEGE AND BEYOND.
BUT ALL OF THE WORK WE HAVE BEEN DOING WITH STUDENT SUCCESS, WITH THE STREAMLINING OF OUR SCHEDULES, WITH REALLY RATIONALE IZING THE WAY THINGS ARE OFFERED.
THIS ALL ABOUT CREATING A STREAMLINED AND SUPPORTED NAVIGATION SO STUDENT CAN FIND THEMSELVES JUMPING ONE HURDLE AFTER ANOTHER TO GET A DEGREE.
ON THOSE TWO PRIORITIES, ANY COMMENTS? ANYTHING YOU WANT TO THINK ABOUT.
THESE WILL BECOME THE BACKBONE OF WHAT WE DO FOR 2021-'22 YEAR.
>> I THINK THEY ARE STILL VERY RELEVANT.
HOWEVER, DR. BRUMBACH AS I'M SURE YOU DISCUSSED AND THE BOARD WILL AGREE WE NEED TO MOVE FROM PRIORITY TO PLAN.
I HOPE YOU WILL GET TO THAT POINT.
ONCE WE GO THROUGH THE PRIORITIES TO SEE IF WE STILL WANT TO KEEP THEM ADD THEM, ET CETERA.
BUT NOW MOVE FROM PRIORITIES TO ACTUAL PLAN THAT PROVIDES OUTCOMES THAT WE WANT TO SEE AND MEASURES TO ASSURE THAT WE ARE REACHING THE DESIRED OUTCOMES.
>> THAT WILL BE A WONDERFUL SEGUE AS TO HOW I DEAL WITH YOU.
STRENGTHEN THE CAREER NETWORK AND IMPLEMENT THE STUDENT COLLEGE ORGANIZATION.
AND EVERYTHING WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IN TERMS OF THE SCHOOLS, THE WAY IN WHICH WE HAVE ORGANIZED A STUDENT RESOURCES, EVERYTHING BEING CONSOLIDATING SO WE ARE ABLE TO DO IT MORE EFFICIENTLY AND EFFECTIVELY.
THIS NEXT ONE DIVERSITY EQUITY AND INCLUSION IS FOSTERING EQUITABLE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS AT THE FOUNDATION OF EVERY ONE OF THE THINGS I WILL SHOW YOU IN THE NEXT FEW MINUTES THAT ARE ACADEMICS, AND STUDENT SUCCESSION AND ADVANCEMENT OF WORKFORCE AND OPERATIONS ARE DOING.
IT'S UTTER I WILL FUNDAMENTAL.
WE ARE ABOUT DIVERSITY AND WE ARE ABOUT INCLUSION.
THIS ONE IS OVERRIDING AS FAR AS I'M CONCERN FOR EVERYTHING ON THIS BOARD.
THOSE AGAIN, ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT EITHER OF THOSE TWO?
>> NETWORK WHICH IS ALL OF OUR MATH, COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION AND OTHER STRATEGIC RESOURCES THAT WE BRING TO STUDENTS, AS WELL AS OUR RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR UNIVERSITIES, AND GETTING STUDENTS THROUGH THE PROMISE PROGRAM ON INTO FURTHER HIGHER EDUCATION OR INTO JOBS AND THE JOBS WILL BE HUGE PUSH THIS YEAR.
BECAUSE OUR STUDENTS COME TO US WANTING TO BE ABLE TO GET JOBS THAT PAY FOR AT LEAST LIVING WAGES IF NOT MORE.
>> YOU ALL BEEN GIVING BY THE CHANCELLOR WHAT WAS FOCUSSED ON IN THE PAST YEAR.
I DON'T REMEMBER NOT THAT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.
I DON'T REMEMBER THAT THIS DEIS REALLY ADDRESSED.
AND OTHER THAN THE EXECUTIVE TEAM, THE REDESIGN OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WAS NOT REALLY ADDRESSED FOR OTHER LEVELS OF THE ORGANIZATIONS.
IN THIS INCOMING YEAR, I THINK WE NEED TO PUT EQUAL ATTENTION AND EFFORTS INTO EACH OF OUR PRIORITY TO THE EXTENT POSSIBLE.
>> WE ARE WORKING ON BOTH OF THOSE TRUSTEE FLORES.
THE LAST QUESTION THE PRIMARY TALENT SUPPLY CHAIN THROUGHOUT THE REGION.
>> MAYBE THIS IS WHERE WE COULD ALSO ADDRESS OUR TRUSTEE BOARD'S INPUT.
TO SERVE AS LEADER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.
I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO POSSIBLY LOOK AT THAT TO INCORPORATE KIDS WANTING US TO BE SEEN AS THE LEADER IN THIS AREA.
I THINK YOU MADE A GOOD POINT.
>> I THINK YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED IN THE NEW GOALS YOU WILL SEE IN A FEW MINUTES.
I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND THE LAST THING YOU SAID.
>> WHO IS OUR COMPETITION? WE WANT TO BE THE LEADER, WE WANT TO BE THE LEADER.
TRUSTEE WILLIAMS IN MANY WAYS I DIDN'T GET INTO THIS BECAUSE OF TIME TODAY.
OUR COMPETITION ARE THOSE NOT COMING COLLEGE.
[01:45:05]
THE UNEDUCATED.THE UNEMPLOYED OUT THERE AND HOW WE REACH THAT POPULATION.
ALSO I WOULD SAY THE PART OF WHERE WE NEED TO BE REALLY LEADING AND LOOK AS BY EMPLOYERS AS THE PLACE TO SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS AND THEIR NEEDS AND BE A RESOURCE FOR THE TALENT IN THE AREA.
AND WHILE I AGREE TRUSTEE FLORES FROM AN EDUCATIONAL PERSPECTIVE WE'RE IN THE LEADERSHIP ROLE, BUT I'M NOT SURE IN ALL CASES THAT OUR PROGRAMS REFLECT THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY THAT WE'RE TRYING TO SERVE.
I THINK THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON.
I THINK ALSO YOU ADDRESSED THE DEI ISSUE, WHERE WE ARE EMPHASIZING THAT WE'RE PROVIDING OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUALS OF COLOR, FOR INDIVIDUALS THAT NORMALLY GET LEFT BEHIND.
AND THE EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT YOU KNOW WE'VE TALKED FOR YEARS THAT, THAT COMPETITION HERE IS NOT REALLY OTHER EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION.
IN A SENSE, I DON'T SEE COMPETITION IN THE SAME WAY THAT I WOULD BUSINESS ENTERPRISE WHERE WE ARE TRYING TO GET A BIGGER SHARE OF THE BUSINESS AND DRIVE MORE REVENUE.
WHAT I SEE AS THAT, WE NEED TO GET MORE OF THE UNDERDESERVED ENROLLED.
NOT JUST ENROLLED, BUT -- IN PROGRAMS THAT LEAD TO GOOD PAYING JOBS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY.
THOSE TWO HAVE TO COME TOGETHER.
AND WE CAN INCREASE ENROLLMENT AND STILL FAIL OUR COMMUNITY.
BACK TO TRUSTEE BOYD'S COMMENTS EARLIER.
I THINK FROM THE LEADERSHIP POSITION -- I THINK LEADERSHIP ONE WE CAN BE SPECIFIC ABOUT.
THAT WE OFFER THE COMMUNITY NEEDS AND WE REACH STUDENTS THAT ARE OFTEN UNDERSERVED AND LEFT BEHIND TO ENROLL IN THOSE PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS THE EQUITY ISSUES.
ADDRESS THE UNDERSERVED ISSUE.
BUT TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF INCOME DISPARITY.
MOST IMPORTANTLY BUILD A STRONGER COMMUNITY AND REALLY GETS DOWN TO WHAT ARE WE DOING TO SUPPORT THE LOCAL GDP.
AND THAT CAN ONLY BE ADDRESSED IF WITH REDIRECTLY INVOLVED SIZE OF THE WORKFORCE AND PRODUCTIVITY.
I SEE THOSE TWO KIND OF KEYS OF COMING TOGETHER AROUND THIS ISSUE TRUSTEE WILLIAMS PROBABLY MORE MY ANSWER THAT WAS IN YOUR QUESTION.
BUT I THINK IT'S THE RIGHT ONE.
AND AND THAT YOU KNOW, WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THIS RATHER THAN A WIN/LOSE FROM THE TRADITIONAL COMPETITION POINT OF VIEW.
BUT MORE OF HOW ARE WE REALLY LEVERAGES OUR RESOURCES IN A WAY I THINK INTENDED BY THE COMMUNITY.
>> I THINK TO TAKE YOU BACK OFF OF TRUSTEE'S BOYD AND WILLIAMS, I THINK IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO INCLUDE THAT WORD IN THERE.
BECAUSE THOSE THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY MAKING THE CONNECTION, THAT WE ARE THE ONES TO COME TO TO EDUCATE THE WORKFORCE.
FOR THOSE MIDDLE SKILLS THAT IF WE BEGIN USING THE WORD LEADER WE'RE THE LEADER THEN THOSE NOT MAKING THE CONNECTION WILL SAY OKAY THEY ARE LEADER.
LET ME GO TO THE LEADER AND SEE WHAT THEY CAN DO FOR ME.
IT'S JUST A MESSAGING MARKETING BRANDING ISSUE.
>> BUT IT'S MORE COMPLEX THAN THAT.
[01:50:12]
THAT MEANS WE'RE LEADING IN SUPPORT OF PTEC AND EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL.WE'RE LEADERS IN SUPPORTING THIS AS INDUSTRY TRAINING THAT WE'RE PARTNERING WITH CORPORATE PARTNERS THAT WE'RE LEADERS AND ESL.
I THINK THERE'S REALLY AS WE THINK ABOUT IT THERE'S REALLY VARIOUS COMPONENTS OF WHAT WE DO THAT ARE IT'S IMPORTANT THAT WE TAKE THEM ALL SERIOUSLY AND TREAT THEM ALL AS IMPORTANT AS WE REALLY BUILD OUT DALLAS COLLEGE.
>> COULD YOUR TEAM TAKE A LOOK AT THAT? AND I THINK WE NEED TO COMMUNICATE THAT BETTER.
IN TERMS OF PEOPLE -- THERE'S MANY IN THE COMMUNITY THAT DO NOT CURRENTLY SEE US AS THE LEADER IN THESE AREAS.
IS IT HOW WE'RE BRANDED? COMMUNICATING? MARKETING ET CETERA? I THINK IF WE -- IT'S IMPORTANT THE WORDS YOU USE.
>> WE CAN CERTAINLY TAKE THAT ON AND LOOK AT IT.
SOMETIMES LEADERSHIP IS SOMETHING THAT IS RECOGNIZED.
I THINK THAT'S WHERE WE ARE HEADED INSTEAD OF SELF-BRANDING.
>> I THINK WE SHOULD SELF-BRAND.
BECAUSE WE THE LEADER IN THESE DIFFERENT SPACES.
>> THAT MIGHT BE POCKETS BUT THERE'S NOT ANYONE THAT CAN ADDRESS THE DIFFERENT ISSUE IN BROADWAY IN A WAY WE CAN.
I REALLY THINK TRUSTEE BOYD AND WILLIAMS MAKE A GOOD POINT.
>> ON THIS PARTICULAR SLIDE THERE'S ONE SIGNIFICANT.
THE GOALS WILL IMPACT MORE THAN ONE PRIORITY.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HAS HAPPENED WITH BECOMING ONE COLLEGE.
IS THAT WITH THE COMPLEXITY OF NEEDS, AND THE INTEGRATION OF SERVICE AND SUPPORT TO MEET THE NEEDS FOR STUDENTS COMMUNITIES AND EMPLOYERS, ONE OF THE HALLMARKS OF OUR NEW APPROACH IS A DEEP COMMITMENT TO A HOLISTIC APPROACH ACROSS ALL FOUR MAJOR DIVISIONS.
THEY INTEGRATE AND WORK TOGETHER TO REACH ALL PART OF HOLISTIC TO MEET STUDENT AND EMPLOYER NEEDS.
ONE THING WE HAVE DONE CREATE ICONS JUST AS MARKERS.
SO YOU WILL SEE IN EACH ONE OF THESE NEXT SLIDES.
WHICH ONES ARE BEING ADDRESSED BY THAT PARTICULAR UNIT OF THE ORGANIZATION.
ACADEMICS, 7 NEW SCHOOLS, ACADEMICS FROM WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT CAREER PATHWAY AND DEVELOPMENT.
THEIR FOCUSED ON INVASION AND BECOMING A NATIONAL LEADER.
THAT'S THAT WORD IN EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIP.
BUT NOTICE THIS VERY FIRST ONE.
SERVICE A CRITICAL PARTNER FOR STUDENT PROGRESS AND RETENTION WHICH IS ALSO PART OF THE ROLE OF OUR STUDENTS SUCCESS PART OF THE ORGANIZATION.
WE WILL BE -- >> INSTEAD OF BECOMING THE NATIONAL LEADER I WOULD SAY BEING A NATIONAL LEADER.
>> THE INCREASE INTERNSHIP AND APPRENTICESHIP AND JOB PLACE CLOSE COORDINATION.
JUST TELL YOU IT'S A MESHED CONNECTED SYSTEM.
WE CREATE A NETWORK WITHIN OURSELVES AS MUCH AS WE ARE WITH EXTERNAL TO HELP SUPPORT THE STUDENT.
YOU SEE THE 2021 MEASURE OF SUCCESS.
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS. ONE IN THREE STUDENTS ENROLLED IN HIGH SCHOOL.
4,000 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ARE AWARDED TO FACULTY.
10 NEW WORKFORCE PROGRAMS AND 65% OF STUDENTS PERSIST FOR TALL 2020-2021.
THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE HEADED FOR.
LET'S CONTINUE TO THE NEXT ONE.
>> CAN I ASK A QUESTION, PLEASE?
>> ON THAT CHART 50 APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM.
WHAT SAYS 50 AND NOT 100? I'M BEING THE NEW GUY ON THE BLOCK.
I DON'T HAVE THE BENEFIT IF IT WAS 25 AND NOW IT'S 50.
I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SAID A WHILE AGO IS I CAN'T CONVINCE THE PRIEST BOARD AND THE LEADERSHIP OF THE SCHOOL FOR WHAT YOU ALL DID WITH YOUR STEP TO MOVE TO THIS PROGRAM ONE COLLEGE.
BECAUSE I THINK THAT IN ITSELF WILL PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MESSAGE TOTALLY DIFFERENT THAN YOU WOULD WHEN YOU WERE 7 DIFFERENT MESSAGES GOING INTO THE FRAGMENTED COMMUNITY.
I'VE LIVED IN SOUTHWEST DALLAS COUNTY MY WHOLE SOMETHING 40 YEAR.
I HAD NO IDEA WHAT GS GOING ON IN THE REST OF COUNTY AS FAR AS COLLEGE WAS RELATED TO.
I THINK NOW OUR MESSAGE IS SO POWERFUL AND SO STRONG, THAT, THAT'S KIND OF WHAT I
[01:55:02]
WAS LEADING TO A WHILE AGO ABOUT THE WORDS LEADERSHIP.IS THAT I THINK WE WE TRULY HAVE CREDENTIALS AND YOU ALL IN THE PAST HAVE PRODUCED SUCH SUCCESS, THAT THE MESSAGE OF HOUSE SUCCESSFUL YOU ALL ARE HAS NEVER BEEN TOTALLY APPRECIATED BY THE STAKEHOLDERS IN DALLAS COUNTY.
AND SO I COMMEND EVERYBODY IN THE PAST AS WE GO FORWARD.
THAT'S AN AREA SO CRITICAL MARRYING THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS WITH OUR STRATEGIC BUSINESS PARTNERS.
SOME OTHER NUMBERS WILL COME UP IN A MINUTE WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT SLIDE.
>> I WOULD -- >> I MIGHT COMMENT THERE.
SOME OF THESE ARE BUILT ON WHAT WE STAFFED UP.
WE GONE FROM THE HANDFUL THREE OR FOUR APPRENTICESHIP TO BUILDING A STAFF THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE 50 AT THIS POINT.
IT'S LOT OF THE FEDERAL WORK THAT GOES INTO THAT.
AND I THINK AT 50 WE WOULD BE THE NATIONAL LEADER BY FAR OF TWO YEAR COLLEGES IN THE COUNTRY IN TERMS OF THE SCOPE OF THAT.
I THINK THAT AS WE LOOK AT SOME OF THIS, WE CAN BUILD OUT OVER TIME FRANKLY THIS ONE IS A STRETCH.
THAT'S WHAT WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO HAVE STRETCH GOALS THAT CAN CAUSE US TO CONTINUE TO BUILD.
BECAUSE I LOVE THE IDEA OF 100.
AND I THINK THAT AS WE LOOK AND GET THE EXPERTISE.
IT'S UNCERTAIN WITH THE NEW ADMINISTRATION HOW HELPFUL THEY WILL BE WITH THIS PROCESS TOO SINCE WE REALLY DO RELY ON THE ADMINISTRATION TO HELP WITH THOSE PROGRAMS.
>> I WOULD ADD DEGREE AND CERTIFICATE PROGRAM COMPLETION NOT JUST COURSE COMPLETION BUT ALSO PROGRAM COMPLETION.
>> IF WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
WITH HAVE HERE -- I JUST LOST IT.
WE HAVE PROMISED STUDENT ENROLLMENT.
BUT THE WHOLE THRUST TO GET MORE STUDENTS THROUGH TO GRADUATE.
>> BUT THIS IS CERTAIN POCKETS OF STUDENTS.
I THINK OVERALL FOR ALL OF OUR ASSOCIATE DEGREES AND CERTIFICATESES.
THAT WE HAVE MEASURE FOR THE COMPLETION RATE ACROSS THE BOARD.
>> WE WILL ADD THAT TO THE QUESTIONS.
BUT ON THIS ONE, AGAIN IT'S REALLY GETTING RID OF THE BARRIERS FOR STUDENT AND DEGREE COMPLETION TRANSFER AND EMPLOYMENT TO INCREASE STUDENT SELECTION OF ALIGNED STUDENT PATHWAY TO WORK ON FINANCIAL AID CASE MANAGEMENT AND ESTABLISHMENT OF COMPREHENSIVE BASIC NEEDS PROGRAMMING WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE IN THIS STREAMLINING, IN THIS CAREER CENTERED LEARNING AND ALSO PART OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN.
IT'S CONNECTED FOR ALL OF THOSE PROGRAM THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT.
3900 APPRENTICESHIPS AND 51 PROGRAMS. AGAIN THAT'S A HUGE INCREASE FORCE.
AN INCREASE IN PUBLIC GRANT FUNDING, INCREASE IN PHILHARMONIC FUNDING.
INCREASE IN SMALL BUSINESS SUPPORTED THROUGH TRAINING.
25 NEW EMPLOYER PARTNERS FOR APPRENTICESHIPS GROWING AREA.
75 BUSINESS PARTNER REFERENCE IN THE CUSTOMER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AS WELL AS 15 MILLION OR MORE TO STUDENT NEEDING EMERGENCY AIDE.
THE WHOLE POINT OF WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT HELPING LEAD THE ECONOMIC RECOVERY EFFORTS IN DALLAS COUNTY.
AND ENROLLING STUDENTS SO THEY GET JOBS AND PROVIDE SIGNIFICANT RESOURCES FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPED EXTENSIVE WORK BASE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND INCREASES RECOGNITION AND HERE IT COMES INVISIBILITY OF DALLAS COLLEGE AS THE GO-TO PROVIDER OF CUSTOMIZED TRAINING FOR THE DALLAS BUSINESS COMMUNITY.
BEHIND EVERY ONE OF THESE THERE'S MORE DETAIL.
[02:00:02]
COULD YOU EXPAND ON THAT A LITTLE BIT.>> THAT'S OUR -- THIS IS OUR SALES FORCE PROCESS THAT KEEPS OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR EXTERNAL CONSTITUENTS.
WE DON'T HAVE THE SITUATION WE HAD WHEN WE WERE 7 COLLEGES THAT MAY MIGHT BE MEETING WITH FIVE PEOPLE FROM SIX DIFFERENT PLACES.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING AT DOING IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS, SALES FORCE IS THE TOP ONE.
THAT'S WHAT WE BUILT OUT THE PROMISE PROGRAM TO STAY IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH STUDENTS, THEIR PARENTS, THE TEACHERS OR PRINCIPALS, SUPERINTENDENTS, AS WELL AS OUR FOLKS.
IT'S WORKED WELL BUT WE HAVE NOT INCORPORATED SUCH A SYSTEM INTERNALLY AND THAT IS A TOP PRIORITY.
WE'VE NOW INVESTED TO EXPAND THE SALES FORCE TECHNOLOGY THUS WILL BE EVEN ON THE FRONT END OF OUR ERP, THAT WE BRING IN, THIS WILL BE A MAJOR COMPONENT OF CONNECTING IT.
AND WE NEED TO DO THIS EVEN BEFORE WE BRING UP THE NEW ERP TO MAKE THIS WORK.
FOR EXAMPLE, WE HAVE TO CREATE THE WAYS TO ESTABLISH RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR STUDENTS.
THIS WOULD BUILD FOR ALL STUDENT.
FRANKLY ALL POTENTIAL STUDENT AND EVERY ONE THAT INQUIRES ON ONGOING BASIS.
I GUESS TRUSTEE BOYD IT'S MUCH LIKE THE CHAMBER DOES FOR MEMBERS AND PROSPECTS AND OTHERS.
IN OUR CASE IT'S A MUCH GREATER SCALE.
>> BUT, WOULD THIS ALLOW THE ABILITY FOR US TO QUARRY THOSE? ESPECIALLY STUDENTS QUARRY THOSE WHO INTERFACED WITH US IF THEY GOT WHAT THEY NEEDED FROM US.
SO WE HAVE AN ACTUALLY DOCUMENTED.
>> EVEN MORE THAN THAT; IT CAN SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AND WE CAN REALLY FOCUS ON LET'S SAY THAT WE USE THE SYSTEM TO ESTABLISH APPOINTMENTS BASED ON AVAILABILITY FOR 10,000 STUDENTS.
AND LET'S SAY 6,000 STUDENTS KEPT THOSE APPOINTMENTS, BUT 4,000 DIDN'T.
WE CAN FOCUS ON THEM SPECIFICALLY WITH TAILORED ENGAGEMENTS.
MAYBE FOR SOME OF THOSE WE AUTOMATE THE PROCESS WITH OUR CHAT BOT.
FOR THAT GROUP THAT WE REQUIRED PERSONAL ENGAGE BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T KEEP THEIR APPOINTMENT.
WE KNOW WHO THEY ARE AND WE DON'T WASTE OUR TIME ON THOSE THAT MAY HAVE MET THE OTHER NEEDS?
WHAT ABOUT THE STUDENTS THAT ARE WORKING ONE ON ONE WITH AN ADVISOR OR FACULTY OR A DEAN AND IF THEY EXPERIENCE WAS LESS THAN SATISFACTORY? OR IF THEIR EXPERIENCE WAS STELLAR? A WAY TO GET THAT QUICK FEEDBACK FROM THEM -- WE CAN MAKE SURE WE'RE PROVIDING THE TYPE OF SERVICE STANDARD THAT WE'VE SAID?
THAT'S REALLY PART OF THAT PROCESS.
YOU KNOW RIGHT NOW, WE HAVE ONLY LIMITED CAPACITY, FOR EXAMPLE, IF YOU AND MARY
[02:05:05]
AND I WERE ALL ADVISORS AND THE STUDENT STARTS BY CONTACTING ME.AND I MAKE NOTES THE STUDENT THEN YOU PICK UP THE PHONE, YOU CAN NOW ENGAGE AND SEE WHAT I'VE SAID.
WE BEGIN TO KEEP A LIVE RECORD THAT IS NOT JUST STATIC IN THE DATABASE BUT IS ACTUALLY USEFUL FROM THE POINT OF VIEW SO WE GET THE WHOLE PICTUREN IS MULTIPLE PEOPLE ENGAGE WITH STUDENT.
>> IT ALLOWS THE STUDENT TO SAY, I'M SATISFIED.
IT WAS LESS THAN SATISFACTORY, ET CETERA?
>> REAL QUICKLY CAN I ASK -- IT MAY BE COMING LATER.
WHERE DO WE PUT HEAVY SIGNIFICANCE AS TO VALUE OF OUR ALUMNI ASSOCIATION? WHERE DO WE PUT THEM IN TO BEING PART OF OUR FUTURE SUCCESS BECAUSE OF THEIR SUCCESS?
BECAUSE I WOULD SAY ALMOST NO COMMUNITY COLLEGES EVEN TRACK ALUMNI.
MAINLY, BECAUSE WE'VE ALWAYS SEEN OURSELVES AS A PASS THROUGH INSTITUTION.
AND MOST STUDENTS WE BELIEVE WANTED TO BE ALUMNI OF FOUR-YEAR TRANSFER.
WE HAVE INVESTED IN ALUMNI OFFICE.
WE HAVE AN ALUMNI STAFF THAT'S PART OF WHAT WE DO.
WE'RE STILL GOSH, MAYBE 3 OR 4 YEARS INTO THAT AS AN OPERATION.
WE DON'T HAVE THE LONG HISTORY THAT'S OUT THERE.
WE SEE THIS AS AN INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT RESOURCE FOR THE REASONS YOU MENTION.
THAT'S ONE WE CONTINUED TO EXPAND.
TO DO A MUCH BETTER JOB OF STAYING CONNECTED TO OUR STUDENTS.
AND WE JUST -- WE DON'T HAVE A HISTORY OF THAT.
OVER THE LAST I THINK FOUR YEARS, AND I MAY BE MISSING -- MAYBE FIVE EVEN.
WE HAVE BEEN REALLY FOCUSSING ON THAT AREA.
>> AND UNDER ADVANCEMENT PORTION OF THIS DIVISION OF WORK?
WE'VE DONE THAT LIKE FOUR YEARS?
>> LOOKING BACK, DID WE DO THAT TO MAKE OURSELVES FEEL GOOD?
WE DID IT REALLY FOR THE REASONS MENTIONED.
WE BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS DO BENEFIT FROM WHAT WE PROVIDE.
THAT THEY GO ON AND BECOME SUCCESSFUL.
AND THAT THEY AS PART OF THEIR -- YOU KNOW, WE REALLY EMPHASIZE THAT WE NEED TO ALSO ENSURE THAT OUR STUDENT ARE NOT ONLY LEARNING, AND EARNING BUT THEY ARE SERVING AND ONE OF THE WAY THAT THEY CAN SERVE IS TO GET BACK TO OUR -- TO THE DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND THAT'S MAINLY FINANCIAL SUPPORT.
THERE IS A AS AN INTENT OF ENGAGEMENT PART OF THAT LIKE ANY OTHER ALUMNI GROUP IT IS THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORTING OUR WORK.
>> WE DO HAVE ALUMNI SERVING AS MENTORS AND THE PTEC'S.
I KNOW THAT OPERATION IS REALLY CREATING A KIND OF BONDING OF THE STUDENTS AS THEY LEAVE BUT AT THE SAME TIME.
THINK MAY START OFF IN ONE PLACE AND STAY IN TOUCH WITH US.
MAKE USE OF THE RESOURCES WE HAVE AND THEN, AGAIN, ONE OF THE DAY THEY WILL END BEING CEO AND GIVE UP ONE BILLION AFTER THE LOTTERY.
CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE BIT ABOUT MORE THAN AND HOW YOU LOOP UTILIZE THAT DATABASE.
THE ISSUE THERE AS WE'VE LEARNED A LOT WITH THE PANDEMIC.
AND WE REALIZE THAT WE NEED TO BE IN CONSTANT CONTACT WITH OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS AS WE SAID.
WE ENDED UP BEING THE PREPARE RESOURCE FOR DALLAS COUNTY AND REALLY BEYOND DALLAS COUNTY IN TERMS OF HOW TO ADDRESS AND ACQUIRE THE PAYROLL PO PROTECTION LOANS.
HOW DO THEY GET ACCESS TO THE EQUIPMENT THEY NEED IN ORDER TO ENSURE SAFETY, THE FACEMASK AND OTHER THINGS.
WE MAINTAIN THE RELATIONSHIPS OF HELPING GROW OUR BUSINESS.
THIS IS REALLY -- WE FEEL LIKE THIS IS PART OF OUR RESPONSIBILITY THAT WE NEED OUR BUSINESSES TO PROSPER IN ORDER TO CREATE JOBS.
SO THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE A PLACE TO GO TO WORK.
THE 7500 IS NOT JUST ABOUT THEM BEING SUCCESSFUL, AS SUCH.
IT'S ABOUT CREATING JOBS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND WE WANT TO BE ENGAGED WITH THAT.
IT IS A GROUP THAT WE WORK WITH.
WE HAVE -- WE HAVE GROWN THAT FROM ABOUT 4,000 AND WE ENGAGE WITH NOW AND THIS IS 7500 MEANS THAT WE'RE OFFERING SEMINARS, WORKSHOPS, COURSES, OTHER THINGS TO MEET THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS ON A TIMELY BASIS.
[02:10:01]
>> DOES THIS INCLUDE THOSE THAT ARE IN OUR VENDOR DATABASE?
>> IT HAS -- IT HASN'T IN THE PAST, NO.
BUT THERE'S NO REASON WHY THAT COULDN'T HAPPEN IN THE FUTURE.
>> I THINK THAT WOULD BE SMART THE DO THAT.
AS YOU KNOW SOMETIMES SOMEONE LIKE STAPLES, WHICH A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT KIND OF ENTITY.
BECAUSE WHAT WE TEND TO FOCUS ON ARE THE SMALLER BUSINESSES THAT ARE REALLY UP TO 500 MILLION.
THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY THERE.
>> LET'S GO TO THE LAST SLIDE.
>> I HAVE A QUESTION ON THAT PRIEST -- PREVIOUS SLIDE.
>> 15 MILLION IN EMERGENCY SERVICES.
HOW ARE WE KEEPING TRACK OF THAT? IS THAT SOMETHING PER YEAR THAT WE'RE LOOKING TO GIVE AWAY? OR IS THAT SOMETHING THAT IS JUST MORE OR LESS AVAILABLE BECAUSE OF COVID? 15 MILLION.
THAT'S QUITE A BIG DOLLAR AMOUNT.
YOU'RE CORRECT TRUSTEE ZIMERMANN.
THIS IS DOLLAR THAT WILL PASS THROUGH.
WE TRACK THAT AND REPORT THAT ACCORDING TO THE FEDERAL GUIDELINES.
BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME STATE DOLLARS THAT WE'VE INCLUDED IN THAT AND WE HAVE PRIVATE DOLLAR AS I MENTIONED OUR FOUNDATION PUT DOLLARS.
WE'RE PROBABLY THE ONLY INSTITUTION THAT MANAGES THOSE ALL TOGETHER RATHER THAN HAVE STUDENT HAVE TO APPLY FOR THE CARES ACT UNDER ONE STATE FUND SOMEWHERE ELSE.
AND PRIVATE DOLLARS SOMEWHERE ELSE.
WE MANAGED THOSE ALL TOGETHER TO MEET THOSE OVERALL NEEDS.
AND THAT'S ACTUALLY WHAT WE HAVE AWARDED.
AS WE'RE ON TRACK TO AWARD ON THAT.
WE'RE PRESENT I WILL AWARDING A LITTLE BIT OVER A MILLION DOLLARS A MONTH.
WE'RE ON TRACK TO DO 15 MILLION THIS YEAR.
OUR LAST GROUP OPERATIONS DIVISION.
>> IT'S FINANCE AND FACILITY, HUMAN RESOURCES IT GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS MARKETING COMMUNICATION.
SOCIAL RESPONSE AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVES.
THE GOALS TO REINFORCE DIVERSITY EQUITY AND ININCLUSION AS CORE VALUE OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED AS WE WENT THROUGH THE SLIDE DBI ICON IS EVERY ONE.
TO BEGIN IMPLEMENTATION TO DATA MADE THE DECISION ON WORK BIG.
AND WE WILL BEGIN IDENTIFY AND IMPLEMENT CUSTOMER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT TOOL TO MANAGEMENT STUDENT AND WORKFORCE PARTNER.
HOPEFULLY WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE.
ANY CONTACT THAT IS MADE WITH THE STUDENT AND ORANGE WORKFORCE PARTNER IS HAD IN DATABASE BEGIN A CONVERSATION DOESN'T START AT GROUND ZERO EACH TIME WE WORK WITH THEM.
THE BRAND AWARENESS FOR NEW COLLEGE COLLEGE.
WE'VE HAD SOME DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THAT ALREADY TODAY.
DEVELOP A LAND USE POLICY FOR DALLAS COLLEGE WHICH WILL COMING TO TRUSTEE IN TIME.
ABOUT HOW WE WANT TO USE THE RESOURCES WE HAVE ON THE GROUND LITERALLY.
TO COMPLETE THE FACILITY'S IMPROVEMENT PLAN PROJECTS THAT ARE ALREADY UNDER WAY AND PHASE ONE BOND PROJECT DESIGN WHICH IS BOTH DEALING WITH OUR COMMUNITY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL NEEDS AS WELL AS WORKING TOWARD WHA HAPPENS WITH DOWNTOWN CAMPUS.
YOU WILL SEE UNDER THE MEASURES OF SUCCESS, COMPREHENSIVE DEI PLAN TO INCLUDE RECRUITMENT TRAINING AND SUPPORT OF EMPLOYEES AND STUDENTS.
AND THAT WILL THE WORK OF OURS OF OF SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
BUT IT'S NOT JUST THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.
THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WILL BECOME A PART OF EVERYTHING THAT'S DONE IN DALLAS COLLEGE.
WE EXPECT 300 EMPLOYEES ACCESSING THE CUSTOMER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT DATA AS THEY WORK D PARTNERS.
WE EXPECT 25 MILLION IMPRESSIONS DELIVERED TO ADVERTISING SOCIAL MEDIA.
WHEN WE TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT LATER IN TODAY'S SESSION YOU WILL SEE HOW THAT BREAKS OUT.
WE WILL WORKING ON PHASE ONE OF THE ERP INTEGRATION THAT'S DEVELOPED.
ANYTIME YOU CHANGE A MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FROM LEGACY SYSTEM THAT WE'VE HAD FROM 16-PLUS YEAR IT WILL TAKE US A WHILE.
WE CAN'T TO GET LAND-USE POLICY WORKED OUT.
WE ABSOLUTELY ARE COMMITTED TO 100% OF PROJECT COMPLETED ON TIME AND WITHIN BUDGET.
AND SPEAKING TO YOUR ISSUES OF TRUSTEE FLORES REDESIGN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM.
ONE OF ITS KEY ELEMENTS IS CREATING ADDITIONAL LEADERSHIP CAPACITY
[02:15:01]
AGRICULTURE MANAGERS THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE WILLING TO CULTIVATE AND GROW EMPLOYEE AND MEET THEIR NEEDS AND HELP THEM WITH PROCESS OF BECOMING THE BEST POSSIBLE EMPLOYEE THAT COULD BE WITHIN DALLAS COLLEGE.HELPING THEM FIND STRENGTHS TO GET THEM IN PLACES WHERE THEY CAN GROW.
WE'VE BEEN WORKING COUPLE OF OUTSIDE GROUPS TO DEAL WITH IT.
IT NOT JUST ABOUT MEETING REQUIREMENTS HOW TO FIND OUT ABOUT PHISHING ON E-MAIL.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE TO BE BEST POSSIBLE SUPERVISOR AND POSSIBLE EMPLOYEE TO HELP THE ORGANIZATION GROW BECAUSE THE DEMANDS ARE HUGE.
THAT'S WHERE WE ARE AT THIS MOMENT.
AND WE'RE 25 MINUTES INTO YOUR LUNCH HOUR.
I'M SURE YOU WILL GET IT BACK FROM CHAIR BRAVO IN A MOMENT.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW -- I TAKE ONE OF THE MORE CRITICAL THINGS THAT I SEE ON THE LAST CHART IS THE ERP.
AND I JUST WANT TO UNDERSTAND THE ACCELERATED ANYTHING OR IF WE MOVE ANYTHING AT AN EXTREMELY ACCELERATED PACE.
HAVING DONE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE WITH REORGANIZATION IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE FORWARD IN A REAL PRODUCTIVE WAY WITHOUT A VERY SALAD ERP.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE TIME LINE AND TIME FRAME IS.
BUT THE MAIN THING I REALLY WOULD ENCOURAGE THAT THIS BE SOMETHING THAT'S PUT IN A VERY HIGH PRIORITY AND THAT IT BE PUT IN A WAY.
IT BECOMES BACKBONE FOR EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING ON AROUND THE LEADERSHIP AND THE MANAGEMENT OF THE ENTITY.
HAVING HAD THE OPPORTUNITY IN CITIES TO GO THROUGH TRANSITION FROM LEGACIES TO ERP'S TO HOSPITALS AND SO FORTH.
I THINK I JUST THE VALUE CAN'T BE STATED ENOUGH.
I HOPE WE HAVE THAT ON THE VERY ACCELERATED PATTERN OR PLAN.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR COMMENTS ARE THERE.
EXCELLENT POINT ALL THE WAY AROUND.
WE HAVE AWARDED THE CONTRACTS FOR THE NEW ERP AND THEY ARE IN THE EARLY PHASES OF THE IMPLEMENTATION.
THAT BEING SAID, I DON'T KNOW IF IT'S EITHER FEBRUARY OR MARCH.
WE WILL DO COMPLETE BRIEFING OF THE BOARD ON WHERE WE ARE AND THEN LAY OUT THE PLANS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS AT AN UPCOMING MEETING.
THAT'S OBVIOUSLY A LOT INVOLVED WITH THAT.
BUT WE'RE GOING -- WE'LL -- I'LL ACCELERATE THAT AS QUICKLY AS I CAN TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE KIND OF UNDERSTANDS WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE ARE HEADED THERE.
>> THAT'S ON THE FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING AGENDA.
>> IF THE SLIDE COULD BE PUT BACK UP.
ON THE FIFTH BULLET IF WE COULD MAKE THAT GRAMMATICALLY CORRECT.
AND THEN THERE'S A LAND-USE POLICY THAT'S BEING DEVELOPED AROUND THE TIME THAT WE APPROVED THE RELATIONSHIP WITH APPOINTE ISD.
THE BOARD ON POLICY HOW TO DEAL WITH THE REQUEST TO HAVE -- CREATE PARTNERSHIPS WITH COUNTY ENTITIES AND I'M NOT -- SINCE THAT BOARD MEETING I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY REFERENCE TO BOARD POLICY BEING PROCESSED OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
I KNOW HE'S TIES UP WITH THE COURT CASE ON THAT.
I BELIEVE SOME OF HIS TEAM HAS BEEN WORKING ON THAT.
WE'LL GET AN UPDATE WHERE WE ARE WITH THAT PROPOSAL.
>> AND THEN DID I UNDERSTAND CHAIR BRAVO CORRECTLY, ERP WILL BE INFORMATION ON THAT WILL BE PRESENTED AT THE FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING.
>> IF WE COULD ALSO AT THAT TIME HAVE A REPORT ON MB PARTICIPATION IN THOSE CONTRACTS.
BECAUSE THAT'S IT'S SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC DOLLARS FOR THIS.
WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE PARTICIPATION IS.
[02:20:08]
VICE CHAIR RITTER, DID YOU HAVE COMMENTS?
I NOTICED THAT THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT NOT INCLUDED IN THE OPERATIONS DIVISION.
>> DON'T WANT TO DIVISION RESPECT THE LAWYERS.
YOU KNOW WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS AREA.
THIS IS A YOU KNOW THERE'S A COUPLE OF THINGS ABOUT THE OPERATIONS AREA.
NUMBER ONE THESE ARE OUR MOST OUTWARD FACING AND COMMUNITY FACING ACTIVITIES OF THE DISTRICT YOU COULD ARGUE.
SECOND THEY ARE HUGE DRIVERS OF OUR BUDGET.
I MEAN YOU GOT THE BOND FACILITIES IN HERE.
YOU'VE GOT YOU KNOW THE PROCESS FOR RECRUITING TRAINING AND HIGHERING EMPLOYEES.
THOSE ARE THE TWO BIGGEST CATEGORIES THERE.
WHEN I LOOK AT THIS THING I SEE POTENTIALLY LET'S PULL ONE THING OUT OF THE EACH OF THE OPERATION AREA AND PUT AS 2021 GOAL.
AND I THINK AS A BOARD AT THE BOARD LEVEL, WE NEED TO GO DEEPER INTO THE OPERATION AREAS.
I HAD THE CONVERSATION WITH JOHN ROBERTSON ABOUT THE FINANCE COMMITTEE AGENDA.
WE'VE HAD REALLY FANTASTIC BRIEFINGS ON WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE ACADEMIC SIDE OF THE HOUSE AND HOW EACH OF THE COLLEGES -- EACH OF THE DEPARTMENT WILL BE SET UP.
WE HAVEN'T HAD THOSE KIND OF BRIEFINGS AS THE BOARD ON HOW THE OPERATIONS SIDE OF THE HOUSE WILL BE WORKING UNDER THE ONE COLLEGE MODEL.
BUT I WOULD ENCOURAGE US AND MONICA AND JOE MAYBE WE COULD THINK ABOUT THIS IN THE AGENDA PLANNING OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF MONTHS.
WE TAKE REALLY, REALLY GO DEEP INTO THE 2021 GOALS FOR SOME OF THE KEY OPERATIONS AREA AND HOW THEY WILL BE MANAGED.
WHAT CHANGES AND WHAT THE METRICS ARE.
I DON'T THINK WE WILL GET OUT OF THAT LEVEL WE NEED AS A BOARD JUST BY LOOKING AT IT AT THE LEVEL THAT'S ARTICULATED HERE.
AND SOMETHING WE NEED TO THINK ABOUT I THINK GOING FORWARD.
>> WELL, AND TO SAY THAT TRUSTEE RITTEY.
WE WILL TAKE THE DIRECTION OF THE BOARD AND WHERE WE ARE HEADED AND FLESH OUT ALL OF THE GOALS THAT WILL SUPPORT THESE AREAS.
AND THERE'S PROBABLY SOME OTHER THINGS TOO THAT WE -- WE'LL NEED TO ADDRESS.
I THINK MARY WILL TOUCH ON THAT.
HOW WE MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE WE'RE TOUCHING ON THE AREAS.
THE BOARD DEALS WITH POLICY ASPECT OF IT.
WHEN WE GET INTO THE OPERATIONS, THAT'S REALLY THE TEAM THAT HAVE TO BUILD THAT OUT IN LINE MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE ALL IN LINE REPORTING IN THE SAME DIRECTION AND LEADING TO OUTCOMES THAT THE BOARD WANTS TO SEE HAPPEN.
>> A >> WE LOOK AT DECISIONS, WE HAVE TO MAKE EVERY YEAR.
HOPEFULLY WE BUILD IN SOME TIME FOR THAT IN INCOMING MEETINGS.
>> I DO NOT SEE ANY OTHER TRUSTEES WANTING TO MAKE COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS.
WE WILL GO AHEAD AND BREAK FOR LUNCH.
AND THEN WE START BACK AT 1:35.
WE WILL SEE SUM RESUME THE REST OF OUR MEETING.
COULD YOU PLEASE DO THE ROLL CALL WITH THE TRUSTEES.
WE WILL CONTINUE THE MEETING WITH A UPDATE BY DR. JUSTIN >> SPECIFICS THAT THEY
[7. SACSCOC Update Presenters: Justin Lonon, Danielle Valle]
[02:25:13]
EXPECT.I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR TIME TODAY.
WANTED TO START OUT WITH SIMPLY SHOWING YOU AND BEING SURE THAT EVERYONE ON THE SAME PAGE ABOUT WHAT THE ACTUAL STANDARD ARE.
THE RESPONSIBILITY TO IS PROTECT THE INSTITUTION FROM UNDO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE
TO BE HAVE GOVERNANCE FOR THE INSTITUTION >> DANIEL, ACTUALLY THIS CAME INTO GREAT EMPHASIS.
FORMER GOVERNOR WE'RE OVERLY INFLUENTIAL >> THAT WAS ACTUALLY FELT LIKE THAT THE EXTERNAL BOOSTERS AND OTHERS HAD GAINED CONTROL OVER ATHLETICS, AND IN AN OVERSIZED WAY AS TO THE INSTITUTION.
THAT BECOME ABOUT AS THAT THIS IS SOMETHING WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION YOU CAN HAVE BOOSTERS.
YOU CAN HAVE OTHER SUPPORTERS BUT THEY DON'T CONTROL WHAT HAPPENS.
IN FACT THERE'S A PENALTY IF THEY DO.
THAT'S WHY THAT'S CALLED OUT TO MAKE SURE THE BOUNDARIES REMAIN IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTHERN INSTITUTIONS.
OF COURSE DR. MAY'S RESPONSIBILITY AS PART OF THE INSTITUTION FUND-RAISING ACTIVITIES AS WELL.
>> IF YOU GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.
>> THE BOARD AS YOU KNOW RESPONSIBLE FOR IDENTIFYING QUALIFIED CEO AND PROVIDING THE OVERSIGHTS AND EVALUATION OF THAT CEO.
AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES WILL CONTINUE TO REVIEW AND APPROVE A UNIFIED MISSION IN THE DALLAS COLLEGE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.
AS DR. MAY INDICATED WHEN HE -- WHEN WE STARTED TODAY, HOW WE GET THERE IS
[02:30:05]
PROBABLY GOING TO LOOK A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT IN THE FUTURE.AS HE SAID WE HISTORICALLY USED THE BOARD MISSION AND STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AS A JUMPING OFF POINT IF YOU WILL FOR THE INDIVIDUAL COLLEGES TO GO AND DEVELOP THEIR OWN MISSIONS AND THEIR OWN STRATEGIC PLANS TO BE ALIGNED WITH THE DISTRICT MISSION AND PRIORITIES.
BUT NOW THAT WE ARE ALL ONE DALLAS COLLEGE, THE EXPECTATION IS THAT THE DALLAS COLLEGE MISSION AND STRATEGIC PLANS WILL BE A PROCESS THAT ALL OF THE COLLEGES INDIVIDUALLY USED TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DEMONSTRATING COMPLIANCE WITH.
IT'S THAT IT IS INCLUSIVE AND WIDE-RANGING PROCESS THAT INCLUDE ALL STAKEHOLDER THAT VESTED INTEREST IN THAT PLAN ENDS UP LOOKING LIKE.
WE WILL IN THE FUTURE AS WE DEVELOP THE HOW, WE IMPLEMENT THAT REVIEW OF OUR DALLAS COLLEGE MISSION THAT MIGHT LOOK A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THAN IT HAS IN THE PAST AND THAT IT WILL PROBABLY START AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL AND GO UP.
DR. MAY, NOW THAT WE WILL HAVE STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE COLLEGE VERSES 7 OF EACH CAMPUS, WHICH WAS -- WHICH MORE COLLEGES, DO ARE YOU ASKING FOR EACH MAJOR DIVISION LIKE THE SCHOOLS OF STUDENTS SUCCESS, ET CETERA TO HAVE THEIR OWN STRATEGIC PLAN WHICH INCORPORATES THE BOARD'S PRIORITIES, GOALS AND OBJECTIVES?
>> WHEN WE GET TO NEXT SESSION WE WILL GO THROUGH PROCESS AND THE STRUCTURE.
ACTUALLY WE'LL GET ALL THE WAY DOWN TO EACH DEPARTMENT, EACH LEVEL WILL HAVE THEIR OWN GOALS THAT WILL THEN ROLL UP TO NEXT LEVEL THAT WILL THEN ROLL UP.
ALL WILL EVENTUALLY ROLL UP TO THE OVERALL DALLAS COLLEGE PLAN THAT'S THERE.
ALONG THE WAY, EVERY SINGLE MEMBER OF THE FACULTY STAFF, EVERY EMPLOYEE WILL BE SPECIFICALLY INVOLVED AND HAVE A ROLL IN THE GOING FORWARD.
>> ARE YOU -- IS THERE GOING TO BE TEMPLATE FOR THEM TO DEVELOP THE PLAN.
IF NOT LOOKING AT SOME OF THE PLANS THAT SOME OF OUR CAMPUSES HAD BELIEVE COLLEGES THEY WERE ALL OVER THE WATERFRONT.
YOU WILL SEE THAT IN A FEW MOMENTS.
MARY WILL SHARE THE SPECIFIC FORMAT THAT WE WILL BE FOLLOWING.
WE'RE USING ONE CALLED V-2-MOM WHICH IS USED BY ORGANIZATIONS AS IT RELATES TO SETTING OUT THE VALUES VISION AND THEN THE VARIOUS MAINTENANCE OPERATION AND SO FORTH STRATEGIES GOING FORWARD.
WE WILL BE ASKING EVERY SINGLE PERSON TO TO WRITE TO THAT MODEL.
THIS REALLY DOESN'T REPRESENT REALLY DRASTIC CHANGE FOR US.
IT'S SIMPLY IMPORTANT THAT AS WE HAVE -- WE HAVE NEW BOARD MEMBERS AND WE HAVE NEW COLLEGE STRUCTURES, WE WANTED TO BE SURE THAT WE START WITH COMMON UNDERSTANDING OF THE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY.
SO WE STRIKE THE APPROPRIATE BALANCE IN WAYS THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE TO BE QUICK THOUGHTFUL OR PURPOSEFUL ABOUT OUR PREVIOUS STRUCTURE.
THIS IS JUST FURTHER DETAIL ABOUT THE CEO'S RESPONSIBILITY.
AGAIN, THAT THE STANDARD HAVE NOT CHANGED, THE BOARD'S ROLE HASN'T CHANGE THE BIG CHANGE DR. MAY'S ROLE.
[02:35:03]
HE HAS MOVED THAT CEO ROLE IN CLOSER TO THE BOARD WHY WE WANTED TO HAVE THE CONVERSATION SO THERE'S COMMON UNDERSTANDING THAT IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BOARD TO SET THOSE -- SET AND DRIVE OUR PRIORITIES IN MANY CASE -- MANY WAYS AND CERTAINLY TO ENSURE THAT WE'RE MAKING THE APPROPRIATE PROGRESS IN LINE WITH THE MISSION IN OUR STATED GOALS AND HOW WE DO THAT, THE OPERATIONIZATION OF THAT IS AT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF CEO, FACULTY AND STAFF OF THE DALLAS COLLEGE.AND SO WE WILL AS WE DEVELOP OUR EXACT PROCEDURE FOR MISSION AND STRATEGIC PLANNING, WE WILL THAT PROCESS WILL DEFINITELY BE HEAVILY INVOLVED WITH DR. MAY WILL HEAVILY INVOLVED IN THE PROCESS.
IT WILL BE THAT BROAD-REACHING AND BOTTOM UP APPROACH TO ENSURING THAT WE HEAR FROM OUR FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS, STAKEHOLDERS IN OUR COMMUNITY AND HAVE A BROAD PROCESS THAT IS INCLUSIVE OF ALL THE VOICES AS WE DEVELOP THE DALLAS COLLEGE MISSION MOVING FORWARD.
AND THE BOARD THEN WILL REVIEW WHAT -- WHAT WE BRING TO YOU ONCE THAT PROCESS IS COMPLETE.
MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS AND ULTIMATELY APPROVE THE MISSION AND WE ARE USING OUR EXISTING STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AS THE GUIDING FORCE THROUGH THAT PROCESS.
IT'S NOT A DRASTIC DEPARTURE FROM WHAT WE'VE DONE.
IT'S A CHANGE IN PROCEDURE MORE THAN IN A CHANGE IN CONTENT.
>> THAT'S THE OVERVIEW OF THE CHANGES THAT AS WE SEE IT THAT MOST CLOSELY AN IMPORTANTLY IMPACT THE BOARD.
WITH OUR CHANGE TO DALLAS COLLEGE, AND THEN AS MARY WILL WALK US THROUGH THE GETTING TO THE PROCEDURE OF HOW WE ENSURE THAT, THAT STRATEGIC PRIORITY OF DALLAS COLLEGE ARE CASCADES THROUGH THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION AND THAT ALL ARE INVOLVED NOT JUST IN THE INPUT OF THE MISSION, BUT ALSO ENSURING THAT AS A STAKE IN UNDERSTANDS THEIR ROLE IN ACCOMPLISHING THOSE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AND GETTING TO US THE OUTCOMES WE DESIRE.
>> THEY CARRY OUT THE PROCESS AND TRUSTEE FLORES, TO YOUR EARLIER QUESTION ABOUT HOW WE TAKE THIS PROCESS.
WEAVE INTO THE STRATEGIC PLAN.
IT WILL MATTER A LOT TO THEM AS WELL.
THAT'S WHAT MARY WILL WALK US THROUGH IN THIS PORTION.
>> IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE A TWO FACTOR STRATEGY.
>> >> I GUESS WE ARE BEING INDUSTRYIOUS.
>> I THINK THAT WOULD SATISFY SOME OF TRUSTEE BOARDS EMPHASIS ON WORKFORCE FOR INDUSTRY MANUFACTURINGS IN A FACTORY MODEL.
I USE TO FLINCH WHEN I WOULD SEE THOSE LETTER.
FACTOR ONE OF THIS PROCESS IS DOCUMENTING MISSION AND PRIORITIES VERTICAL AND
[8. Cascading the Mission & Strategic Priorities Throughout Dallas College Presenter: Mary Brumbach]
HORIZONTAL ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT, THAT MEANS THROUGH THE ORGANIZATION AND ACROSS THE ORGANIZATION SO WE'RE ALL IN AGREEMENT THROUGH THE MODEL OF VISION, VALUES, METHODS OBSTACLES AND MEASURES.AS DOCTOR MAY MENTIONED MANY OF OUR LARGER CORPORATIONS ARE REALLY USING THIS PROCESS TO DRIVE HOME THAT THE MISSION BELONGS TO EVERYBODY IN THE PLACE.
RIGHT DOWN TO RECEPTIONEST AT THE DESK AND THE GUY PUTTING THE BAGS -- IF WE GET TO FLY AGAIN ON THE PLANE.
WHAT DO I DO? WHAT'S MY ROLE IN THIS PLACE? WITH THAT IN MIND LET'S GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
THE VALUE AND THEN THAT METHOD OBSTACLE AND METRICS.
[02:40:04]
THE WHOLE APPROACH EACH LEADER AT EVERY LEVEL OVERALL MISSION FOR DALLAS COLLEGE USING COLLEGE TEMPLATE.EVERYBODY WILL TOUCH THE TEMPLATE.
TWO THINGS WILL REMAIN CONSTANT IN THE VISION, STRATEGIC PRIORITIES, WHAT IS DALLAS COMP WANT TO ACCOMPLISH AND WHAT IMPACT WILL IT HAVE ON STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES EMPLOYERS AND THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE? VALUES, PRINCIPALS ARE MOST IMPORTANT TO ACHIEVING THAT VISION AND HOW WILL THE GUIDE EVERY DAY DECISIONS? FOR EACH LEADER AND TEAM METHODS.
WHAT SPECIFIC ACTION HUHS BE TAKEN TO ACHIEVE THE VISION AND HOW YOU DESIGN YOUR ORGANIZATION TO ACHIEVE THE VISION.
MANY WAYS MUCH OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL WORK WE'VE BEEN DOING ALONG THIS ROLE OF WHO DO WE NEED TO, HOW DOES IT NEED TO BE POSITIONED.
WHO IS DOING WHAT TO MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
THE OBSTACLES ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.
IT'S WHAT'S CHALLENGES COULD IMPACT THE ABILITY TO ACHIEVE THE VISION AND WHAT CAN BE DONE TO PREVENT THINGS.
THE WAY IN WHICH THIS IS STRUCTURED EVEN THE SMALLEST THING THAT COULD TRIP.
SOMETHING NOT GETTING DONE WILL BE VISIBLE BECAUSE IT'S ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE ORGANIZATION.
IF WE FIND FOR EXAMPLE THAT A STAFF MEMBER DOESN'T HAVE ACCESS TO KEY PIECE OF INFORMATION THEY NEED, AND THEY CAN CALL IT OUT IN THE OBSTACLES WE CAN DEAL WITH IT.
IT WILL ALSO BE A SPECULATION IN WHICH WE FOCUS ON OUR RESEARCH WITH.
WE FIND POCKET OF NEED OR GROUP OF STUDENTS THAT HAVING PARTICULAR DIFFICULTY AND THEY SHOW UP IN OBSTACLES.
OUR RESEARCH PROCESS CAN HELP DEAL WITH THAT.
AND THEN THE PLACE THAT YOU ALL HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT.
WHAT SPECIFICALLY MEASURABLE AND TIMELY METRICS CAN BE USED TO TRACK PROGRESS TOWARD ACHIEVING THE VISION.
RATHER THAN LAYING THEM ON TOP OF PEOPLE SAYING YOU WILL DO X AS THEY WORK THROUGH THE BOTTOM UP, THEY WILL BE CALLING OUT THE SAME AS IT WILL MEASURE WHAT THEY INTEND TO DO.
AND THEY WILL EVENTUALLY THROUGH THE WORK OF OUR VICE CHANCELLORS, BECOME THESE KPI'S THAT WE WILL BE REPORTING TO YOU AS THE BOARD ON HOW WELL WE DONE AND HOW FAR WE HAVE TO GO TO GET THINGS DONE.
LET HE GIVE YOU SOME EXAMPLES OF THESE.
I WILL START WITH ONE FROM THE TOP WITH THE NEXT SLIDE.
THIS IS WHAT DR. MAY'S MAY LOOK LIKE.
WE WILL TAKE WHILE TO GET ALL LAID OUT.
AND WORK IT THROUGH THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION.
IN SOME CASES WE DON'T HAVE PEOPLE IN PLACE TO FILL THEM OUT.
YOU SEE THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.
YOU SEE THE STATEMENT OF VALUES.
AND THEN YOU SEE SOME METHODS LIKE STRENGTH IN THE CAREER CONNECTED LEARNER NETWORK AND STREAMLINE AND SUPPORT AND REDESIGN HUMAN CAPITAL POLICIES AND PRACTICES TO CREATE DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE HIGH-PERFORMING WORK AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENT WHICH IS ALL ABOUT OUR DEI AS WELL.
LONG-TERM PARTNERSHIP WITH EMPLOYERS.
IRRELEVANT OFFERINGS AND CONNECTS TO SCALE.
WE KNOW THAT GETTING HIRED IN A JOB OFTEN HAS A LOT TO DO HAVE YOU HAD A CHANCE TO WORK AT THE JOB WHILE IN TRAINING.
TO ENSURE HIGH-QUALITY CURRICULUM DELIVERY AND IMPLEMENT A SCHEDULE.
THE OBSTACLE WE CALLED UP TODAY ALREADY.
OUR STUDENT ARE BALLOTANCING STRESS, HOUSING AND SECURITY, AND MORE ALONGSIDE THEIR LEARNING, BUDGET LIMITATION MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO INVEST THE NECESSARY TRAINING IN DEVELOPMENT OUR STAFF NEED TO CONSISTENTLY DELIVER THE HIGHEST QUALITY EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENT AND PARTNERS.
THAT'S PART OF THE REDEVELOPMENT THAT A LOT CAN BE PUBLISHED IN HOUSE IF WE HAVE A LOT OF THE RIGHT PEOPLE.
THE COMPETITION FOR TALENT MAKES IT CHALLENGING TO HIRE NEW EMPLOYEE WHO NEED TO SUSTAIN THE GROWTH AND GOALS.
THAT'S NOT ONLY TRUE AT THE LEADERSHIP LEVEL.
SOME PEOPLE WE NEED FOR TEACHING, ARE SIMPLY OUT OF PRICE RANGE BECAUSE OF THE DEMAND IN THE INDUSTRY.
METRIC FOR SUCCESS AS WE MENTIONED EARLIER.
STUDENT DOLLARS TO COMPLETION.
WE ARE NOT ONLY CONCERNS WITH LEARNING OUTCOME WE'RE CONCERNED WITH CAREER OUTCOMES.
DID YOU GET WHAT YOU CAME TO GET AND WERE YOU ABLE TO GET A JOB WITH ITS? ALUMNI ENGAGEMENT.
TRUSTEE BOYD IS PART OF THE PACKAGE.
DID WE MEET THEIR EXPECTATIONS WILL THEY COME BACK TO US.
SAME THING TRUE FOR COMMUNITY PARTNERS.
AND WE NEED TO MAKE SURE WE'RE DOING IT WELL.
FACULTY SATISFACTION, AND EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION.
[02:45:02]
AGAIN, THIS IS DRAFT BUT IT'S WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE FOR EVERY INDIVIDUAL IN THE SYSTEM AS ALL 3500-PLUS-FULL-TIME PEOPLE.I FEEL LIKE EVERY CATEGORY WOULD RELATE TO OUR BOARD.
AT WHAT POINT DO WE ADDRESS AS A BOARD OUR ROLE IN FULLFILLING THE SAME ON VISION VALUES METHOD CERTAINLY OUR METHODS ARE OBSTACLES THAT WE MAY INTERACT WITH.
THE SAME AS DR. MAY AND THE REST OF THE PEOPLE.
HOW DO YOU PERCEIVE THAT TO BE PICTURED OR SHOWN TO US?
>> I'M NOT SURE THIS WILL FIT FOR THE BOARD.
YOU HAVE YOUR OWN BOARD RESPONSIBILITY.
MAY I ASK DR. MAY, DO YOU WANT TO RESPOND TO THAT?
>> EVERYTHING STARTS WITH THE BOARD THAT WE GO THROUGH AND ADOPT THE VALUES OR THE BOARD PRIORITIES SO WE ARE DRIVING EVERYTHING ELSE GOING ON.
IT'S UP TO THE BOARD WILL EVALUATE THIS AND MAKE RECOMMENDATION AS IT RELATES TO ARE WE ADEQUATELY HITTING THOSE.
THAT'S THEIR MAIN IMPACT IS THE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE SETTING THE OVERALL VISION, VALUES AND AS WELL AS THE PRIORITIES GOING FORWARD.
AND THEN IT'S UP TO THE REST OF THE ORGANIZATION TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE ALIGNING TO MEET THOSE NEEDS.
>> I WOULD ADD TO THAT, THE BOARD ITSELF HAS OWN SELF-EVALUATION PROCESS THAT MIGHT FIND THIS INTERESTING.
I'M JUST GIVING YOU SOME EXAMPLE.
I PROMISE THE PEOPLE I WAS MAKING EXAMPLE THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS.
HOWEVER THEY SEEM TO AGREE WITH THEM.
AGAIN YOU SEE THE THINGS THAT ARE CONSTANT.
STRIKE PRIORITIES, AND THE VALUES, BUT IN THE METHODS FOR EXAMPLE ACADEMICS WITH DR. SHAWN FLOYD, ONE OF THE METHOD SHE WILL BE USING IMPLEMENTING THE SCHOOLS OF ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE ALIGNED WITH LABOR MARKET PLAN AND PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE STUDENT SUPPORT CAREER COLLECTION AND JOB PLACEMENT ON TRANSFER TO FOUR-YEAR PROGRAMS. THAT'S A METHOD THAT THEY WILL EMPLOY.
IN THE NEXT COLUMN OVER, THE TEAM WILL CALL OUT THE THINGS THAT NEED SOLUTIONS THE PROBLEMS THAT NEED TO BE IDENTIFIED AS SOME ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINTS.
WE TALK ABOUT THAT A LITTLE BIT AGO.
IN THE ROLE OF THE EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOLS AND TEACHINGS WITH THE CHARTERS.
THERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE CAN'T FIX QUICKLY.
THEY ARE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINTS.
THE PANDEMICS IS A CLASSIC ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINT.
I DO LIKE ACKNOWLEDGE TRUSTEE PHIL RITTER IS AT THE MEETING NOW.
>> AS FOR THE METRICS FOR SUCCESS, EACH ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT IN DALLAS COLLEGE WILL BE SPELLING OUT THE OUTCOMES THEY ANTICIPATE AND THE WAY THEY WANT THEM TO BE MEASURED.
THE KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATOR.
WE HAVE A WIDE RANGE COMING UP.
THEY WILL BECOME CONSOLIDATED AS THEY COME TO YOU FOR THE BOARD.
YOU CAN SEE HOW THIS LAYERING GOES.
THIS CASCADING GOING ON UP AND DOWN.
VICE PROVOS SCHOOL OF ENGINEER TECHNOLOGY MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCES, AS AN EXAMPLE, UNDER HUHS METHOD AGAIN THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES AND VALUE STAY THE SAME.
REVIEW EXISTING ENGINEERING PROGRAM AND LINE WITH MARKET NEEDS PRIORITIZE HIGH DEMAND CAREER AREAS.
HE'S ALSO GOING TO ALIGN TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM WITH INDUSTRY DEMAND INCLUDING HIGH VALUE INDUSTRY CREDENTIALS.
THIS IS ACTUALLY GOING ON AS WE SPEAK.
WHAT WE KNOW WITHIN THE COMPUTER INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY A DEGREE IS GREAT.
BUT CREDENTIALS THAT ARE INDUSTRY BASED ARE THE ONES THAT GET STUDENTS HIRED.
HE'S REALLY REFOCUSED THE PROGRAM.
THE PROBLEM THAT MEET SOLUTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINT FOR MANY ARENA ONE OF THE HUGE ONE GETTING RIGHT FACULTY IN PLACE BECAUSE THEY CAN EASILY GO TO HIGH DOLLAR WORK IN THE FIELD IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AS OPPOSED TO
[02:50:04]
TEACHING PEOPLE HOW TO GET THERE.IT'S AN ISSUE THAT HAS TO BE DEALT WITH.
WE HAVE ENVIRONMENTAL CONSTRAINTS.
FOR EXAMPLE, IN THE NEXT ONE WE WILL TALK ABOUT CYBERSECURITY.
WE HAVE TO CREATE SIMULATION AS OPPOSED TO TURNING STUDENTS LOOSE AND HIGH SECURITY ENVIRONMENTS.
THERE'S A LOT OF THING THAT HAVE TO BE TRUE.
THE METRICS FOR SUCCESS WILL BE WHAT CAN WE REASONABLY DO AS OUTCOME AND WHAT ARE THE INDICATORS WE GETTING THERE.
THE DEPARTMENT SHARE TECHNOLOGY.
TRANSLATES WHAT'S BEING DONE IN TERMS OF THE PROVOS OFFICE, ABOUT CREATING PROGRAMS THAT MEET INDUSTRY DEMAND, WITH THE VEHICLE PROVOS CONCERN THAT MAKE SURE OUR PROGRAM AND IT ARE RELEVANT TO INDUSTRY WE TRY TO TRAIN FOR AND THEN HE GOES TO THE NEXT STEP WHICH FOR EXAMPLE, IS TO CREATE A PROTO-TYPE PROGRAM IN CYBERSECURITY WITH STUDENT COHORT AND INTENSIVE EXPERIENCE BASED APPROACH TO MEET URGENT INDUSTRY NEEDS.
AGAIN, HE COULD LEAD EFFORT TO ALIGN CYBERSECURITY COURT CONTENT WITH CURRENT TECHNOLOGY AND REQUIREMENTS.
EACH ONE SHARPLY FOCUSED ON AREA THEY HAVE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AND THE SAME TWO THINGS OBSTACLES AND MET RICKS OF SUCCESS WILL BE PLOYED.
FACULTY MEMBER RESPONDING PROVOS, VICE PROVOS AND DEPARTMENT CHAIR.
ACHIEVE APPROPRIATE CREDENTIAL IN ADDITION TO COURSE CONTENT.
THAT'S HOW IT BECOMES OPERATIONALIZED AT THIS LEVEL.
THEY MAY IDENTIFY OR CREATE SIMULATION OF SECURITY RISK PROVIDING ANALYSIS AND REMADATION.
THEY COULD INCORPORATE PRACTICES THROUGH SCENARIOS THAT SIMULATE ACCESSING TEAM AND FIELD EXPERT TO MANAGE ESCALATING CYBEREVENT.
THERE HAS TO BE MUTUAL RESPECT TO ADDRESS THE KIND OF HAPPENING THAT GO ON WITH ISSUE THAT CAN CRATER AND INDUSTRY.
TO INCLINED CAREER AND WAGE INFORMATION.
AIMING AT A JOB AND PREPARING THE CREDENTIALS THAT DO ITTED.
WE WILL CALL OUT THE ONCE MORE KRISCAL TO BEING ABLE TO ACHIEVE AND KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS.
WE'VE GOT THIS WILL TAKE US A WHILE.
IT TAKES A WHILE TO GET NEW SYSTEM.
IT WILL TAKE A WHILE TO GET THE TRAINING DONE AND TAKE A WHILE FOR PEOPLE TO LEVEL OF SOPHISTICATION HOW CAN I BEST STATE A METHOD AND OBSTACLE.
WHAT ARE THE METRICS THAT GOES WITH THIS.
WE WILL START THIS SPRING AT THE TOP LEVEL MOVING DOWN THROUGH THE ORGANIZATION TO GET THESE INITIAL STATEMENTS METHODS AND SUCCESS AND THEY WILL BACK UP AND BEGIN TO REFINE AND WORK WITH THEM.
IT'S A TOTAL ENGAGED SITUATION.
TO GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE, WE WILL HOPE BY THE TIME THIS PROCESS IS COMPLETE I WILL IMPLEMENTED, THE PERSON WHO AT THE FRONT DESK WHO MADE BE WELCOME ASSISTANT READING SOMEONE AS THEY COME ONLINE OR ON CAMPUS OR WHATEVER SEEMS TO BE THE APPROPRIATE PLACE WE'LL KNOW EXACTLY HOW THEY FIT IN THE ORGANIZATION, WHAT THEIR ROLE IS.
THEY WILL ALSO KNOW HOW THEY WILL BE MEASURED FOR IT.
IT'S A GRASSROOTS ALL THE WAY UP AND THEN BACK TO MAKE SURE WE'RE IN LINE.
TOYOTA HAS THIS THING THAT YOU CAN WALK IN.
NO MATTER WHERE YOU STOP IN THE ORGANIZATION.
SOMEONE WILL HAVE A PAGE THAT SAYS, THIS THE WHAT I DO.
THIS HOW IT SERVES TOYOTA MISSION AND THIS IS HOW ITS MEASURED.
THAT'S THE KIND OF THING WE WANT THAT DALLAS COLLEGE HAS THIS HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL ORGANIZATIONAL PROCESS THAT EVERYONE IS TALKING TO EVERYBODY AND EVERYBODY UNDERSTANDS IT'S NOT JUST THEM BUT THE WHOLE PLACE WORKING TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS COMMUNITIES AND EMPLOYERS.
OVERALL THIS IS WHAT IT LOOK LIKE.
YOU WON'T SEE IT FINISHED THIS YEAR.
YOU WILL SEE REAL PROGRESS TOWARD HOW WE ARE ALIGNING UP AND DOWN AND ACROSS THIS ORGANIZATION BEFORE I MOVE ON TO THE NEXT FACTOR.
>> NOT A QUESTION SO MUCH AS COMMENT.
LOOKS LIKE A VERY GOOD APPROACH.
WHERE EVERYBODY IS ON THE SAME PAGE AND WE ALIGN TOP TO BOTTOM AND BOTTOM TO
[02:55:04]
TOP.I WILL BE GLAD TO SEE THE RESULTS OF IT.
IN TERMS OF WHAT -- WHERE WE ARE GETTING WITH METRICS FOR SUCCESS.
AND DEFINITELY IDENTIFYING THE OBSTACLES.
>> I CAN'T SEE YOUR HANDS OR ANYTHING ELSE.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS?
>> THE ONLY OTHER THING I WOULD SAY RELATED TO THAT TRUSTEE FLORES, IS THAT WE REALLY WANTED SOMETHING SIMPLE AS WELL THAT PEOPLE COULD REMEMBER AND I DIDN'T JUST SIMPLY BECOME PAGE AFTER PAGE AFTER PAGE OF MATERIAL THAT PEOPLE WOULD LOSE OUR COULDN'T RELATE TO OR FORGET OVER TIME OR WOULD SPEND SO MUCH ENERGY TRYING TO UPKEEP THE PAPERWORK THAT THEY WEREN'T WORKING ON DOING THE ACTUAL WORK.
AND I THINK THAT'S WHAT WE REALLY WANT TO TRY TO BALANCE.
HOW DO WE ON ONE HAND CREATE ALIGNMENT BUT WITHOUT OVERBURDENING OURSELVES WITH A PAPERWORK PROCESS THAT KIND OF DEFEATS SOME OF THE GOALS.
YOU KNOW, EYE SEEN THAT HAPPEN.
I GUESS I'M PARTICULARLY SENSITIVE TO THIS.
WE CAN FIND MUCH, MUCH MORE COMPLEX MODELS THAT YOU KNOW HAVE MULTIPLE GOALS AND MULTIPLE THINGS UNDER EACH ONE.
BUT WITH ORGANIZATION THE SIZE OF OURS I THINK KEEPING IT AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE WILL BE HELPFUL TO GET US THERE.
THEN WE CAN TWEAK IT OVER TIME AS WE WE NEED TO.
>> YOU WANTED TO BE REAL KISS APPROACH; HUH?
>> I LIKE THE FACT THAT EACH STAFF MEMBER WILL BE ABLE TO BE ABLE TO EITHER HAVE COMMITTED TO PAPER OR BE ABLE TO RATTLE OFF HOW THEY FIT INTO ALL OF THIS.
THE TOYOTA EXAMPLE YOU WERE GIVEN.
THAT WILL BE REAL POSITIVE FOR EACH AND EVERY STAFF AND FACULTY MEMBER TO SAY OKAY THIS IS MY ROLE IN, IN THIS PLAN.
ONE THING IMPORTANT ABOUT THE OBSTACLES.
SO MANY TIME ORGANIZATION AS LARGE AS OUR THE SMALLEST THING CAN TRIP THE BEST INTENTIONS.
WITH PEOPLE IDENTIFYING THEM AT THE LOWEST LEVEL SOMETHING THEY DON'T HAVE.
A PROCESS THAT'S SIMPLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT, WE WILL BE ABLE TO FINE TUNE THIS ORGANIZATION TO WELL-OILED MACHINE OVER TIME.
IDENTIFYING KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS ACROSS THE ORGANIZATION.
ACADEMICS STUDENT SUCCESS, WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT OPERATIONS.
WHAT REMAINS CONSTANT ARE THE STRIKE PRIORITIES.
JUST TAKING THE ONE FOR EXAMPLE IN THE IMPLEMENT THE SCHOOL ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE ALIGN WITH LABOR MARKET DEMANDS.
STRATEGIC PRIOR RELATES TO IT ARE THE CAREER CONNECTED LEARNER AND SUPPORTING NAVIGATION AND THE SUPPLY CHAIN FOR THE AREA.
WITH OUR NEW ORGANIZATION AS I MENTIONED EARLIER.
THERE'S ENORMOUS COMMITMENT TO UNDERSTANDING THAT NO ONE DOES THIS ALONE.
THERE'S THIS CARTOON TRYING TO ROLL THE ROCK UP THE HILL AND IT ROLLS BACK DOWN ON HIM.
I SAW SIMILAR WITH THE POSTAL SERVICE THAT ONE BOX JUST KEPT -- NO ONE WAS GETTING PACKAGES.
WHEN YOU HAVE 10 OR 12 PUSHING IT OVER THE HILL IT COMES OVER THE HILL.
FOR ACADEMIC CLOSER ALIGNMENT ACHIEVE 30% OF EXISTING PROGRAMS. STUDENT SUCCESS IS DEALING WITH GRADUATE NUMBER AND HIGH DEMAND TECHNOLOGY AND HELPING TO INCREASE BY 10%.
INCREASE APPRENTICESHIP AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES BY X PERCENT.
AND OPERATIONS IS CONCERN WITH THE SOFTWARE AND EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR INDUSTRY STANDARD LEARNING ENVIRONMENT IS PROCURED, INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED.
FOR X PERCENT OF PROGRAMS. IT'S THAT THIS IS CENTER GIS STATISTIC INTEGRATIVE HOLE LIST TIC APPROACH TO MAKING
[03:00:02]
SURE THAT WE DON'T CREATE ANOTHER SET OF COMPETITIVE ARRANGEMENTS WE ARE ALL WORKING TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THAT STRATEGIC PRIORITIES ARE MET TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY AND WE HAVE A WAY TO MEASURE HOW WELL WE ARE DOING.THIS IS A TWO FACTOR STRATEGY.
THE FACULTY STAFF AND ADMINISTRATORS DEVELOP THE VISION OF VALUES, THE METHODS, OBSTACLES AND MEASURES.
THE MEASURE BROUGHT INTO THE KPI AND THAT'S THE LEADERSHIP TEAM THAT VINES VICE CHANCELLOR AND OPERATION.
COMES TO YOU AS THE BOARD OF REPORT OF ANNUAL OUTCOMES BY OUR FOUR DIVISIONS AND BY THE COLLEGE AS A WHOLE.
WHICH FEEDS INTO ANY CHANGES ANY REVISIONS TO THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES.
THIS IS FOR ACADEMIC YEARS SEPTEMBER 21 TO AUGUST OF 2022.
EACH TIME I THINK IT WILL GET MORE TRANSPARENT.
AND PROVIDE YOU MORE UNDERSTANDING OF HOW WELL WE'RE DOING WITH THINGS.
WHAT'S BEEN ADDED HERE THE PLANNING CYCLE.
I WONDER IF I COULD COMMENT REAL QUICKLY IF I COULD.
I WAS MUTED AND DIDN'T REALIZE I WASN'T BEING HEARD.
THE ANNUAL OUTCOMES OBVIOUSLY ACCOUNTABILITY PIECE THAT CERTAINLY BOYD CARES ABOUT ALL THIS.
MOST OF ALL ARE WE ACHIEVING THE RESULTS TIED BACK TO THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES THAT YOU CARE ABOUT?
>> OBVIOUSLY IN AN ORGANIZATION THE SIZE OF OURS, THERE'S LITERALLY GOING TO BE THOUSANDS OF OUTCOMES THAT WILL BE OCCURRING.
WHAT WE'VE GOT TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IS ROLL THOSE UP.
CONSOLIDATE, STILL PROVIDE THE ABILITY IF YOU WANT TO SEE DOWN INTO THE DETAIL THAT WE HAVE THAT.
THAT'S SOMETHING WE HAVEN'T WORKED OUT YET, MARY.
BUT YOU KNOW, AND WE MAY HAVE TO TAKE A FEW STABS AT IT TO GET THIS RIGHT.
BECAUSE YOU KNOW PREVIOUSLY WE'VE RELIED MORE ON WHAT WE REPORTED OUT TO THE COORDINATING BOARD TO THE STUDENT CLEARINGHOUSE.
TO OTHER ENTITIES ON MUCH OF THAT.
FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS IS SOMETHING WE WE WILL ROLL UP INTERNALLY.
WE WILL SEE HOW WE CAN MAKE THIS WORK BETTER.
AT THIS SCALE, WE WILL CONTINUE WORKING WITH IT AND WE WILL GET IT RIGHT.
NORMALLY WE WOULD START FOURTH QUARTER.
THIS HAD BEEN NORMAL YEAR WE WOULD HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT STRATEGIC PRIORITIES IN NOVEMBER OR DECEMBER.
GOING FORWARD, FOURTH KWAUSHT PRIOR YEAR THE KPI AND ANNUAL OUTCOME REPORT ARE REVIEWED AND PRESENTED.
THAT'S WHEN WE COME THE YOU AS A BOARD FOR YOU LOOK ON THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES LEVEL.
THE FIRST QUARTER CURRENT YEAR SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER THE STRATEGIC PRIORITY REVIEW.
THAT'S WE WOULD HAVE BEEN DOING THAT LAST FALL.
FIRST AND SECOND QUARTER OF THE YEAR THE VISION VALUE, METHODS OBSTACLES, REVISED DEVELOPED AND IMPLEMENTED.
IT BEGINS IN EARLY SPRING AND MOVES ON THROUGH THE SPRING QUARTER.
RESULT WERE GATHERED AND ANALYZED, EVALUATED, AND RECOMMENDATION AND REPORTS ARE RECORDED.
WE ARE BUILDING UP CAPACITY IN ANALYTICS AND OTHER TYPE OF RESEARCH.
IF WE FIND THINGS WE CAN DO BETTER WE WILL BE ABLE TO WORK WITH RESEARCH POSSIBILITY ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
ONE OF THE AREAS WE KNOW WE WILL LOOK AT THE RETENTION OF MINORITY MALES.
THAT -- THERE'S INFORMATION AVAILABLE.
WE CAN BRING IT AND OUR RECOMMENDATION CAN COME FORWARD.
IT WILL SIMPLY CONTINUE TO CYCLE.
EACH TIME WE DO IT I HOPE WE GET BETTER.
>> WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE FIRST AND SECOND QUARTER.
THAT'S GOING TO BE SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER WHICH IS IN LINE WITH WHAT WE DID
[03:05:03]
BEFORE TO LAY THOSE OUT.WE HAVE TO DO A LITTLE BIT OF TRANSLATION ON THAT.
THE FIRST QUARTER FOR US ACTUALLY THE FOURTH QUARTER OF THE CALENDAR YEAR.
INDEED THE SEPTEMBER THROUGH DECEMBER FIRST QUARTER JANUARY THROUGH MARCH, APRIL.
IT ALWAYS TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF ADJUSTMENT.
WHEN WE SET THE VALUE WE SET FOR THE NEXT YEAR WHEN WE EVALUATE IT WE EVALUATE IT FROM THE PAST YEAR.
WE'LL SET IT FOR THE NEXT YEAR BEFORE WE EVALUATED IT FOR THE PAST YEAR.
YOU KNOW EACH TIME WE'LL HAVE TO WORK THROUGH THAT MIDDLE GYMNASTICS ABOUT WHERE WE ARE IN THE PROCESS AND WHAT YEAR WE WORK ON.
SINCE TECHNICALLY THERE'S OVERLAP OF SOME OF THIS IN A GIVEN YEAR.
WE SHOULD HAVE FOR YOU IN PREPARATION FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF 22-23 YOU WOULD WORK FROM OUTCOME PRESENTED FOR 21-22 IN THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES WHICH YOU WOULD DO IT.
IT WILL COMING CLOSE TOGETHER IN THAT LAST QUARTER I'M SORRY THE FIRST QUARTER OF ACADEMIC YEAR THE LAST QUARTER OF THE ANNUAL PROCESS.
WE'LL TRY TO KEEP THE MONTHS ATTACHED TO THESE THINGS.
>> WHERE ARE WE NOW? CURRENTLY IN THIS CYCLE?
>> WE'RE A BIT BEHIND BECAUSE WE SHOULD HAVE DONE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES LAST QUARREL.
WHERE WE ARE NOW WE WILL LAUNCH THIS PROCESS OF COMING OFF OF YOUR REVIEW OF THE PRIORITIES, AND MOVING INTO DEVELOPMENT IN THE FIRST AND SECOND QUARTER.
>> WE DID GET DELAYS MAINLY BECAUSE OF THE TRANSITION TO DALLAS COLLEGE BUT ALSO THE COOVID.
IS OUR PLAN TO ACCELERATE AND COMBINE SOME OF THESE THINGS SO THAT BY THE TIME ACADEMIC YEAR DOES BEGIN, WE HAVE -- WE'RE BACK ON TRACK? IS THAT THE GOAL.
>> YES, MAY NOT BE IN THE DEPUTY YOU LIKE.
I WOULD HOPE HIS SON NEXT YEAR WOULD BE DOING WHAT HE SAID WE WOULD DO STARTING OFF WITH MISSION VALUES, ET CETERA.
THE ENTIRE REQUEST THAT YOU CONSIDERED LOOKING AT STRUCTURE THAT AS WE GO FORWARD MONTHLY BOARD METING THAT WE START LOOKING A SMALL ELEMENT OF THIS AT EACH BOARD MEETING AS AN UPDATE.
NOT NECESSARILY GOING TO ALWAYS BE SOMETHING NEW.
BUT I THINK IT WOULD HELP US ALL IF WE STARTED BUYING INTO THIS PROCESS AND UNDERSTANDING IT MORE AND MORE.
AND THEN THE REPUTATION IS GOOD WAY TO DO LEARNING.
IF WE COULD SAY THAT AND TRUSTEE RITTER BROUGHT UP EARLIER A LOOK INTO SOME OF THE FINANCE, THIS WOULD BE A GOOD PLACE MAYBE TO START SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF THAT HOW IT TOUCHES OR HOW IT EFFECTS -- I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT ELABORATE.
BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE JUST WORTH SEEING IT ON A REGULAR BASIS AS CRITICAL FOR OUR EACH BOARD MEETING.
>> I CAN SEE US DOING SAMPLING OF WHAT'S GOING ON.
SO YOU CAN GET A SENSE OF THEM.
WE'LL HAVE TO SEE HOW THAT PLAYS OUT TRUSTEE BOYD.
>> THAT'S REALLY A PURPOSE OF THE COMMITTEES.
AS WE -- WE HAVE THAT STRUCTURE.
SOME OF THEM OBVIOUSLY IS ONGOING OPERATION.
THAT'S REALLY WITH A PIECE OF IT.
UP TO LOOK FORWARD AT NEW INITIATIVE AND DISCUSS THOSE INFORMED BY WHAT HAPPENING
[03:10:04]
IN VARIOUS AREAS.WE WILL BE ABLE TO FIGURE HOW TO WEAVE THAT IN.
AND I'M SURE THAT WE CAN GET SOME FEEDBACK IN THAT PROCESS FROM MEMBERS OF THE BOARD.
OBVIOUSLY, YOU'RE -- MARY, I KNOW YOU THINK ABOUT AS EVERYBODY LOOKS AT US THROUGH THE STRAW NARROWLY.
IF YOU CARE ABOUT KA CAREER AND TECHNOLOGY.
I SAY THAT IN THAT WE END UP WITH A VERY WIDE BREADTH OF WORK THAT'S GOING ON IF WE GET IT DOWN TO BE METRICS ON THE REALLY WHAT MATTERS, YOU KNOW, AND AGAIN IT DEPENDS ON THE CYCLE OF SOME OF THESE.
TRUSTEE BOARD, ONE OF THE CHALLENGES WE HAVE IS UNLIKE A BUSINESS OR OTHERS WE DON'T SEE THE RESULTS FOR THREE MONTHS.
A STUDENT STARTS A TERM AND THEN THREE MONTHS LATER THAT WE GET THE SUCCESS RECORDS.
IT MAY BE TWO OR THREE YEARS BEFORE WE GET THE COMPLETION RATES AND THEN THE JOB PLACEMENT WHICH ARE THE THINGS THAT ULTIMATELY MATTER THAT WE'RE TRYING TO GET TO WE LOOK AT PROGRESS MONITORING.
DID THEY COMPLETE COURSES OR OTHER THINGS OCCURRING.
HOW WE ARE DOING WITH CERTAIN POPULATION.
I THINK WE HAVE GOT SOME OF THAT ALREADY SOMEWHAT THOUGHT OUT BECAUSE SOME OF THE REQUIREMENTS THAT WE HAVE MAKING SURE THAT WE ROLL UP TO SUPPORT SOME OF THE PERFORMANCE METRICS, SOME OF THE FOR WHICH WE RECEIVE FUNDING.
WE BETTER PAY ATTENTION TO IT.
AS WELL AS SOME OF THE AREAS THAT THE BOARD HAS LAID OUT THERE.
BUT TO YOUR POINT, WE DON'T MONITOR THOSE BUT SOME OF THAT SIMPLY BECAUSE WE DON'T GET MONTHLY UPDATE.
IT MAY BE THREE MONTH UPDATES OR THAT SORT OF THING.
WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT DEPENDING ON WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE.
BUT MOST OF THE RESULTS THAT WE ACHIEVE TEND TO COME IN CHUNKS AND EIGHT WEEKS, 16 WEEKS.
>> ANY OTHER COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS? THANK YOU.
I WILL TURN THIS ON OVER TO THE NEXT PERSON.
DISCUSSION ON BOARD COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.
I STARTED OFF SAYING THAT IS DIFFERENT PROCESS IN TERMS OF HOW WE ENGAGE GOING FORWARD WITH THE PLANNING.
I WANT TO KEY OFF THE COMMENT TOO THAT WE NEED BE FEEDING BACK TO BOARD ON A REGULAR BASIS AND FIGURING OUT HOW WE DO THAT WITH THE THINGS THAT MATTER.
I THINK OVER THE NEXT YEAR WE NEED TO BE TRYING SOME OF THIS OUT.
OBVIOUSLY, WE AS I SAID, WE HAVE SOME METRICS FOR DOING SOME OF THAT ALL RIGHT.
BUT AS WE LOOK AT ROLLING THESE UP.
I THINK WE WILL ALSO SEE SOME THINGS THAT POP UP THAT WE MAY WONDER, YOU KNOW, I REALIZE THAT, THAT THESE ARE IMPORTANT, BUT MAYBE THESE AREN'T FULLY ALIGNED WITH THE PRIORITIES AS WE SEE IT.
AND MAYBEN EVEN IDENTIFY GAPS.
THAT'S THE BOARD'S RESPONSIBILITY TO HELP US MAKE SURE THAT AS WE TRANSLATE THE PRIORITIES BACK THAT ACTUALLY WE ARE SEEING THE RESULTS OF ABOUT COMING BACK ABOUT WHAT'S INTENDED.
THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE JUST PROCESSED AND DO WORK.
IT REALLY IS MEANT TO BE MEANINGFUL IN TERMS OF RESPECTING THE BOARD'S
[03:15:08]
PRIORITIES, DIRECTIONS THAT THEY WANT TO DO.AND HAVE US FOLLOW AND MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE ACTUALLY CARRYING THOSE OUT AND IMPLEMENTING AND TAKING A LOOK AT IT AT THE END OF THE DAY.
I THINK EVEN SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT TRUSTEE RITTER AND BOYD AND OTHER MAY HAVE BROUGHT UP ABOUT THE MONITORING AND FEEDBACK ARE REALLY ABOUT ENSURING THAT, THAT HAPPENS.
AS WE ARE INVENTING THIS FOR US COLLECTIVELY FOR THE FIRST TIME.
WE'VE GOT SOME ROOM TO EXPERIMENT WITH THIS.
BUT GET SOME THINGS RIGHT AS WELL.
I LOOK FORWARD TO THOSE DISCUSSIONS AND I DO THINK OUR COMMITTEES WILL BE A GOOD PLACE WHERE WE PROVIDE SOME OF THIS PERHAPS AT THIS BEGINNING IS AND TOUCHING BASE SOMETIMES MAY SIMPLY BE UPDATES ON SPECIFIC AREAS EVEN AS WE AWAIT THE RESULTS OUT THERE.
I DID WANT TO ASK BOARD, DOES THIS MAKE SENSE AND DOES THAT SOUND LIKE A GOOD WAY TO MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE HITTING WHAT WE NEED TO BE THIS PROCESS?
I HAVE A QUESTION ON THE BOARD'S STRIKE PRIORITIES.
ENROLLMENT GROWTH IS AN ISSUE.
SHOULDN'T THAT BE ROLLED IN SOMEWHERE INTO THOSE PRIORITIES WHERE WE CAN TARGET BACK AN AREA OR PERSON AND ULTIMATELY THE CHANCELLOR WOULD HAVE RESPONSIBILITY.
I THINK THAT'S BUILT INTO THE MODEL.
A LOT OF PLACES WHERE WITH TALK ABOUT UNDERSERVED POPULATION.
THAT'S ABOUT GROWTH, PENETRATION, ABOUT STUDENT SUCCESS.
I THINK ULTIMATELY THAT'S REALLY WHAT WE'RE GETTING AT.
>> I KNOW YOU HAD THE MEASUREMENT.
[INAUDIBLE] SHOULDN'T IT BE MENTIONED SPECIFICALLY SOMEWHERE IN THOSE MEASUREMENTS? YEAH.
YOU CAN'T HIT THE MEASUREMENTS WITH OUT SOME DEGREE OF GROWTH THAT'S IN THERE.
THEY REALLY ALL LINKED TOGETHER BECAUSE WHEN WE TALK ABOUT INCREASING THE NUMBER OF GRADUATES YOU CAN'T GET THERE WITHOUT GROWING THE OTHER AREAS.
WHEN WE LOOK AT THE 7 KIND OF RESULT AREAS THAT WE'VE LAID OUT, WHICH ARE GETTING MORE PEOPLE IN CRITICAL FIELDS SO THEY LEAD TO JOBS, INCREASING THE OVERALL COMPLETION RATE, THEY ARE INCREASING TRANSFERS THAT ARE THERE.
ALL THOSE ARE TIED BACK TO GROWTH, ALTHOUGH THE CHALLENGE WOULD JUST ENROLLMENT BY ITSELF YOU CAN GROW AND NOT BE SUCCESSFUL WITH STUDENTS.
THE TWO REALLY WORK HAND IN HAND.
>> I WOULD JUST REFER I DEPUTY KNOW HOW ANYONE ELSE FEELS ABOUT.
I WOULD PREFER SOMETHING THAT SPECIFICALLY SPEAKS TO THAT.
YOU CAN STILL GET NUMBERS THE NUMBERS THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT JUST ENROLLMENT THAT YOU HAVE.
AND I KNOW I MEAN, YOU KNOW, NUMBERS ARE STUCK.
THE MEASUREMENT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT YOU MAY NOT HAVE ANY ENROLLMENT GROWTH BUT YOU STILL REPORTED NUMBERS ON THAT.
BUT THEN DOES NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER WHETHER WE FOCUS ON ENROLLMENT GROWTH, HOW MUCH HAVE WE GROWN.
>> THERE'S A LOT OF SURVEY -- VARIABLES WITH THAT.
I'M ALWAYS A LITTLE BIT TROUBLED GROWTH BEING FROM GROWTH SAKE.
ALL THINK DOESN'T ALWAYS DRIVE THE RIGHT BEHAVIOR.
AND CAN ENCOURAGE THINGS THAT ARE COUNTER PRODUCTIVE TO STUDENT SUCCESS.
WE TO SEE MORE COMBRAUDS AND GETTING GREAT JOBS THAT WE'RE PRODUCING.
[03:20:02]
>> ONE OF THE PROBLEMS THAT IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY ENROLLMENT GROWTH, THEN THAT'S LONG-TERM IMPLICATIONS FOR THE TAX PAYING CITIZENS.
>> WE'VE HAD RECORD-GROWTH FOR EVERY YEAR YOU KNOW FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS.
THAT'S OBVIOUSLY BEEN A PART OF WHAT WE'VE DONE.
>> I'M NOT TALKING CAN'T PAST YEARS.
THAT'S AN ISSUE, LOOKING AT STUDENT GROWTH AS BEING WEAPON OUR PRIORITIES.
I DON'T THINK I WOULD PHRASE IT THAT WAY.
AS WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO ACHIEVE.
>> DO ANY OTHER TRUSTEES HAVE COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS?
>> I THINK WE'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK INTO MAKING TURNING OUR STRATEGIC PRIORITIES NOW INTO A ROBUST STRIKE PLAN AND I LIKE THE FACT THERE'S GOOD ALIGNMENT.
AND THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE AN OVERALL EMANATING FROM THE BOARD.
EACH LEVEL WILL HAVE THEIR OWN ALIGNING WITH WHAT THE BOARD HAS.
>> >> THANK YOU SO MUCH MARY FOR GIVING US A GOOD PRESENTATION AND KEEPING US ON SCHEDULE.
WE'RE AHEAD OR WHERE WE THOUGHT WHICH WOULD BE.
WE'RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE A TEN-MINUTE BREAK.
AND WE WILL RESTART AT LET'S DO 2:45.
[BREAK] [BREAK] [BREAK] [BREAK] >> IT'S 2:45 ON MY CLOCK.
>> I'M JUST GOING TO WAIT TO SEE IF TRUSTEE RITTER ALSO TURNS ON HIS CAMERA WHEN HE COMES.
[9. Discussion of Trustee Communication Avenues for Community Engagement Presenters: Justin Lonon, Patty Arellano-Tolotta]
I WILL BEGIN.DO HAVE A QUORUM IF YOU WISH TO BEGIN.
HOPEFULLY WE WILL JOIN US SOON.
DISCUSSION ON COMMUNICATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DR. LLONO AND PATTY ORELLANO TOKOTTA.
>> WE WILL SWITCH GEARS AND TALK ABOUT THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SIDE OF THINGS.
REALLY THESE CONVERSATIONS BEGAN COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO WITH TRUSTEE FLORES AND AS SHE WAS CHAIR AND AGAIN TO THINK ABOUT DIFFERENT WAYS THAT THE BOARD COULD ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY IN THIS REMOTE ENVIRONMENT AND THE CHALLENGES THAT IT PROVIDES.
I KNOW THE TRUSTEE BOYD HAS HAD SOME SIMILAR CONVERSATIONS AS WELL.
WE WILL WALK THROUGH SOME OF THE OPTIONS.
KIND OF THINK AS A TOOL KIT THESE ARE TOOLS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO TRUSTEES, AS YOU THINK ABOUT THE DIFFERENT WAY TO ENGAGE IN CAN COMMUNITY ESPECIALLY WITH THE CHALLENGES OF DOING SO IN A REMOTE WAY.
AND PATTY WILL DIVE IN AND WALK US THROUGH SOME OF THE DIFFERENT ELEMENTS OF THAT.
THANK YOU TO THE BOARD FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE HERE TODAY.
I WANT TO START WITH THE TRUSTEE VIRTUAL TOWN HALLS THAT WERE STARTED LAST FALL AND WE HAD -- WE STARTED VIRTUAL TOWN HALLS WITH EMPLOYEES FIRST.
AND THEY WERE WORKING OUT PRETTY WELL.
WE WERE GETTING REALLY GREAT ENGAGEMENT FROM EMPLOYEE AND GETTING QUESTIONS IN ADVANCE.
I SEEMED LIKE NATURAL PROGRESSION TO HAVE THESE WITH THE BOARD AND TEST THEM OUT.
YOU WILL SEE THIS PHOTOGRAPH HERE WITH SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AL-FREDO NORMAN.
THAT WAS A TOPIC OF WORKFORCE.
AND THE AVERAGE ATTENDANCE, WE HAD THREE OFFICIAL KIND OF TRUSTEE TOWN HALLS AND THEN THREE OTHER EVENTS THAT WERE INVOLVED IN TRUSTEES IN THIS SORT OF FORMAT.
AND WE HAD ANYWHERE FROM 125 TO 400 PEOPLE ATTEND.
AND THAT COULD BE STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES, CONSTITUENTS, FROM THE COMMUNITIES OF THE INDIVIDUAL TRUSTEES AND JUST PEOPLE FROM THE COMMUNITY AT-LARGE.
I THINK THEY HAVE PROVEN OUT TO BE WELL ATTENDED.
WE DO HAVE SOME WORK PLANNED FOR THIS YEAR.
WE ALREADY HAVE TWO THAT WE LOOK AT DATES FOR IN FEBRUARY.
ONE AROUND DAC AND ONE ARNZ DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE.
WE HAVE OTHER TOPICS WE WOULD LIKE TO COVER.
THERE'S SEVERAL THINGS WE WOULD LIKE TO GET INTO THE COMMUNITY.
WE WILL WORK WITH BOARD ON PROVIDING TOPICS LIKE THE ONE HERE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT.
[03:25:01]
THERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE THINK ARE REALLY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY AT-LARGE AND WOULD LOVE THE HELP OF THE TRUSTEES, TO HELP COMMUNICATE THOSE TWO OUR DALLAS COUNTY.THE MODE OF COMMUNICATE RIGHT NOW IS KRIR ACTUAL BECAUSE OF THE SITUATION WE'RE IN.
WE HAVE TESTED WITH THE EL CENTRO COLLEGE PRESIDENT SEARCH THAT WE HAD IN DECEMBER.
WE WEREN'T USING AS MUCH FOR THE OTHER EVENTS.
BUT WE FIGURED OUT A WAY TO DO IT SO WE CAN GET QUESTIONS LIVE FROM THE AUDIENCE IN WAY THAT'S SAFER SO WE'RE -- EVERYBODY DOESN'T SEE THE QUESTIONS.
WE'RE THENNING THEM TO MODERATOR.
THE MOD CRATER PASSES THEM TO SPEAKER SO THE SPEAKER ASK THE QUESTION OR ANSWER THE QUESTIONS.
WE GET SOME REALLY ENGAGEMENT FROM OUR COMMUNITY.
WE'RE LIMITED THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT CAN ATTEND WEB-EX LIVE.
WHICH IS WHY WE TYPICALLY DON'T DO IT THAT WAY.
BECAUSE WE HAVE A LIMITED NUMBER.
AND SWAGIT DOES SEEM TO WORK WHEN WE'RE DOING A LIVE STREAM OUT TO THE BIG BROAD WORLD.
THE TIMING ON THESE IS REALLY GOING TO DEPENDANT UPON ALL OF YOU AND WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO AND HOW OFTEN YOU WOULD LIKE TO ENGAGE AND THE TOPICS THAT WE HAVE AT END.
WE WILL WORK WITH YOU ON GETTING THE SCHEDULE TOGETHER ON GETTING YOUR IDEAS FOR TOPICS AS WELL.
AND THEN PUTTING A SCHEDULE TOGETHER WORKING THROUGH TO GET ALIGN AND HAVE SOMETHING GOING FOR THE REST OF 2021.
>> IF WE GO ON TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
ANOTHER IDEA THAT HAS COME UP WITH A BOARD OF TRUSTEES NEWSLETTER.
THIS ACTUALLY STEMS FROM AN IDEA THAT DISD IS DOING.
WE LOVE THE IDEA AND THINK IT WOULD BE A GOOD THING TO DO ON A REGULAR BASIS.
WE ARE LOOKING AT MONTHLY FOR THESE.
AS YOU CAN KIND OF SEE THIS SEM A LITTLE BIT.
WE WOULD HAVE EACH OF THE TRUSTEES WOULD DO THEIR OWN PERSONAL WELCOME AT THE BEGINNING.
WE CAN HELP YOU WITH THAT IF YOU WOULD LIKE.
BUT YOU KNOW IT'S REALLY MEANT TO COME FROM YOUR VOICE AND WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY TO YOUR CONSTITUENTS.
AND THEN WE WOULD HAVE THE REST OF THE NEWS MIGHT BE A LITTLE BIT MORE -- THERE MIGHT BE TAYLORING DEPENDING ON WHICH CAMPUSES YOU WANT TO FOCUS ON.
BOARD MEETING NEWS WOULD BE AROUND DECISIONS THAT MIGHT BE MADE AT THE BOARD MEETINGS.
FOR INSTANCE, IF WE DID ONE IN FEBRUARY MAY WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE PLANNING SESSION AND HOW YOU'VE BEEN ENGAGED IN HELP US PLAN FOR THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR.
PUTTING ANY COLLEGE PROGRAM HIGH LIGHTS, INITIATIVE, THINGS OUR COMMUNITY WILL CARE ABOUT THEN CALENDAR OF EVENT FOR YOUR LOCATION.
THIS IS SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD LIKE TO GET STARTED FAIRLY SOON.
AND WE WELCOME YOUR FEEDBACK ON THIS AS WELL.
>> IF WE GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
ANOTHER WAY THAT WE HELP TRUSTEES BY PROVIDING SCRIPTS OR SPEECHES OR HELPING WITH MEDIA RELATIONS.
FOR INSTANCE, CHAIR BRAVO WHEN SHE TOOK ON HER ROLE THEY ASKED FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH HER WE COORDINATED THAT WITH HER SO SHE'S ABLE TO GET IN FRONT OF THAT PARTICULAR MEDIA OUTLET.
WE WOULD GUIDE YOU AS YOU NEED IT AND MAKE SURE WE'RE RUNNING AND GETTING THE QUESTIONS FOR YOU AND MAKING SURE YOU'RE IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT FEELS COMFORTABLE FOR YOU.
WE WOULD FORWARD ANY KIND OF CEREMONIAL TAPE OF THINGS OR THINGS YOU REPRESENT DALLAS WE CAN HELP YOU WITH THE SCRIPTS AND TALKING POINTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT AS NEEDED.
WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THIS TYPES OF EVENTS WE WANT TO PROMOTE THEM, OF COURSE.
AND SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE EASIEST WAY AND IT'S THE BROADEST WAY WE CAN REACH ALL OF DALLAS COLLEGE AND OUR CONSTITUENTS.
THROUGH TO COMMUNICATE ANY KIND OF UPDATES.
WE PROMOTE THE VIRTUAL TOWN HAL.
IF YOU HAVE A STORY AT NEWS OUTLET WE WOULD POSE THOSE THERE SO OUR COMMUNITY KNOWS THAT YOU ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN THE COMMUNITY AND REPRESENTING DALLAS COLLEGE.
IF WE GO TO NEXT SLIDE WE CAN GIVE YOU -- WE CAN SHOW YOU A FEW EXAMPLES OF THAT.
WE DO HAVE 33 DIFFERENT ACCOUNTS MANAGED BY OUR TEAM.
ACROSS THE FOUR CHANNELS YOU SEE HERE.
INSTAGRAM, FACEBOOK, TWITTER AND LINKED IN.
AND WE HAVE SO MANY ACCOUNTS BECAUSE WE'RE MANAGING THE CAMPUS ACCOUNTS.
[03:30:02]
WE HAVE IF YOU THINK OF THOSE FOUR CHANNEL FOR EACH CAMPUS AND THE COLLEGE LEVEL.RIGHT NOW WE FEEL CAMPUS CONSTITUENCIES ARE STILL INTERESTED AND WE GET GOOD ENGAGEMENT THERE.
WE FEEL BEST AT THIS POINT WE WILL KEEP THOSE THERE.
AND AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS TIME FRAME FROM THE LAST 4 TO 4 AND A HALF MONTHS.
WE HAD A MILLION IMPRESSIONS HOW MANY TIME ONE OF OUR POST SHOWN UP IN SOMEONE'S FEED ACROSS THOSE ACCOUNTS.
WE HAD OVER 16,000 ENGAGEMENTS WHEN SOMEONE ACTUALLY COMMENTS ON IT, LIKES A POST OR SHARES IT.
AND THEN WE'VE HAD 13,000 CLICKS WHICH MEANS THAT'S SOMEONE ACTUALLY CLICKED ON LINK.
WE WILL PUT LINKS IN THERE WE WANT TO DRIVE IN TO TAKE ACTION.
ANYTIME WE MAKE A POST WE WANT TO DRIVE INTO THE WEB SITE OR TO A CALENDAR OF EVENTS OR SOMEWHERE WHERE THEY CAN SIGN UP TO ATTEND A TRUSTEE TOWN HALL.
WE HAVE SEEN SOME GROWTH OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS.
BECAUSE WE ARE GETTING A LOT MORE COORDINATED IN OUR EFFORT.
BEFORE WE WERE EIGHT DIFFERENT ENTITIES AND WE WERE OPERATING INDEPENDENTLY.
AND AS ONE COLLEGE WE REALLY -- WE GOT ONE TEAM NOW DOING SOCIAL MEDIA.
AND WHILE WE STILL WILL TAYLOR THE MESSAGING FOR EACH CAMPUS, AS A WHOLE WE'RE DOING COHESIVELY AND WE'RE SEEING MUCH BETTER RESULTS BECAUSE OF THAT IN THIS FISCAL YEAR.
IF WE GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.
I THINK THAT WE SKIPPED A SLIDE.
BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A COUPLE OF EXAMPLES.
IF WE COULD GO BACK TWO SLIDES.
LOOKS LIKE THERE'S A SLIDE MISSING.
BUT BASICALLY I WANTED TO SHOW YOU AN EXAMPLE WOULD BE WHEN WE DID THE TRUSTEE TOWN HALLS WE WOULD POST THE TOPIC AND SEND IT OUT.
WE DID IT FOR WHEN CHAIR BRAVO AND REPRESENTATIVE DID THEIR OWN TOWN HALL ABOUT PAYING FOR COLLEGE.
WE POSTED THAT ON ALL OF OUR SOCIAL COLLEGES.
THAT'S HOW WE WERE ABLE TO PROMOTE THEM USING THE CHALLENGE GET PEOPLE TO SHOW UP VIRTUALLY TO THE EVENTS.
IF WE CAN GO ON TO LAST SLIDE.
EVENTUALLY, WE HOPE TO RETURN TO CAMPUS HOPEFULLY SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.
AND WE WILL HAVE COMMUNITY EVENTS.
YOU WILL SEE SOME EXAMPLES HERE WITH SOME OF OUR CITY COUNCILORS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHERE WE WOULD TRY TO START HOSTING THESE TYPES OF EVENTS WHERE WE HAVE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT LIVE, BUT ONE OF THE THINGS WE SEEN IS THAT YOU KNOW IT IS HARD TO GET PEOPLE TO COME LIVE.
WE HAVE SEEN MUCH, MUCH HIGHER ENGAGEMENT IN PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING WE ARE DOING BECAUSE WE DO IT VIRTUALLY.
I FORESEE A TIME WHEN WE MAY DO HYBRID.
WE MAY HAVE THE PHYSICAL ENGAGEMENT FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN MAKE IT.
BUT WE ALSO HAVE SOME -- HAVE IT BEING STREAMED LIVE AS WELL.
SO THAT WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO CANNOT MAKE IT WITH WHETHER FOR TRANSPORTATION PURPOSES OR BECAUSE IT'S TRAFFIC, WHATEVER YOU -- WHATEVER IT MIGHT BE.
THEY CAN STILL HAVE THE OPTION TO PARTICIPATE VIRTUALLY EVEN THOUGH THERE MAY BE FOLKS IN THE ROOM.
THAT'S WE'RE LOOKING AT THAT AS WE HOOK AHEAD TO THE REST OF THE YEAR HOPING THAT WE WILL GET TO PLACE WHERE WE CAN BE IN PERSON.
BUT I DON'T SEE A TIME WHEN WE'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE VIRTUAL AS AN OPTION.
IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING WELL FOR PEOPLE.
AND IT SAVES TIME AND GAS AND ALL OF THAT.
ESPECIALLY FOR OUR STUDENTS WHEN WE THINK ABOUT THEM.
THEY HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN SOME OF THESE.
WITH THAT ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME?
>> I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT SOCIAL IMMEDIATE MEDIA PLATFORMS. WHERE DO YOU SEE MORE ENGAGEMENT FROM ACROSS THE BOARD?
>> IT REALLY -- WE SEE A LOT ON INSTAGRAM AND WE SEE A LOT ON TWITTER.
TWITTER REALLY GOOD BECAUSE YOU -- THERE IT GOES.
>> THIS WAS THE SLIDE I WAS MENTIONING WITH EXAMPLE JUST FOR YOU TO TAKE LOOK AT WHERE WE POST THEM.
I THINK FACEBOOK IS PROBABLY GOOD FOR THE OLDER CONSTITUENTS AND I WILL SPEAK FOR MYSELF.
IT REALLY DOES TEND TO GENERATIONAL.
FACEBOOK REALLY DOES KIND OF RUN THE GAMUT MORE TOWARD THE OLDER GENERATIONS.
AND THEN THOSE ARE REALLY IMPORTANT MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY.
AND OUR SUPPORTERS AND ALLIES.
AND THEN LINKED IN OBVIOUSLY REALLY STRONG IN THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY.
AND SO WE DEFINITELY USE THAT TO REACH THAT AUDIENCE.
BUT WE SEE MORE INSTAGRAM AND TWITTER FOR OUR STUDENTS BECAUSE THEY LIKE
[03:35:02]
THINGS IN BITE-SIZED CHUNK AND PHOTOGRAPHS.ANYTHING WE DO HAS COMPELLING IMAGE THAT WOULD BE -- THAT STUDENTS WOULD FIND APPEALING.
HOW MANY PEOPLE IN YOUR DEPARTMENT WORKS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?
ONE THING INTERESTED TO ME BECAUSE I CAME FROM CORPORATION WHEN I CAME HERE.
YOU KNOW SOCIAL MEDIA WAS REALLY MORE ABOUT CREATIVITY AND TRYING TO GET PEOPLE KIND OF SUCKED INTO YOUR WORLD AND MAKING THEM GO TO YOUR WEB SITE.
THERE'S A CUSTOMER SERVICE ELEMENT TO IT.
IN FACT THERE'S QUITE A BIT OF THAT.
WHERE OUR STUDENTS ARE OFTEN REACHING OUT TO US OR PARENTS OR COMMUNITY MEMBERS ARE REACHING OUT AND THEY WILL DIRECT MESSAG US ON ONE OF OUR CHANNELS.
IT'S NOT OUT FOR THE PUBLIC TO SEE BUT IT'S ANOTHER CHANNEL FOR THEM TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM AND ASK QUESTIONS OR ASK US TO HELP THEM SOLVE A PROBLEM OR CONNECT THEM TO THE RIGHT PLACE.
WE DO HAVE A COUPLE OF PEOPLE WHO SPEND INDICATE A BIT OF TIME ON THAT, AND GETTING THEM CONNECTED TO STUDENT SERVICES OR CONNECTED TO ACADEMIC SERVICES SO THEY CAN GET WHAT THEY NEED.
THE SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE STUDENT.
BUT YOU KNOW, THEY DON'T HAVE THE TIME OR THEY WILL NOT TAKE THE TIME TO GO AND LOOK ON THE WEB SITE AND FIND WHERE THEY NEED TO GO.
IT'S JUST EASIER FOR THEM TO DM AND TO GET A QUICK ANSWER.
WE'VE GOT THE PEOPLE ASSIGNED TO IT.
SO THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
I KIND OF THINK AS CUSTOMER SERVICE CHANNEL AS WELL.
>> I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT STUDENT SERVICES.
YOU JUST USED THE PHRASE WE'RE USING SOCIAL MEDIA TO CONNECT STUDENTS TO STUDENT SERVICES.
BUT DO YOU SEE A BROADER POTENTIAL FOR SOCIAL MEDIA TO ACTUALLY BE A DIRECT STUDENT SERVICES DELIVERY MODE AND YOU KNOW WAYS PERHAPS IT'S NOT USED TODAY?
>> I DON'T I HONESTLY DON'T THINK SO.
JUST BECAUSE AT THIS POINT WE'VE GOT THIS STUDENTS SERVICES ADVISORS.
IT'S DEFINITELY BEING ABLE UNDERSTAND HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE STUDENT OR ANYONE IN THAT MODALITY.
AND EVEN THE WAY THEY SPEAK TO THEM.
I WOULD SAY THE SAME THING ABOUT TEXTING.
ADVISORS, HOW THE DIFFERENT SKILL SET.
AND OUR FINANCIAL AID FOLKS HAVE A DIFFERENT SKILL SET.
I THINK DOING THIS WAY WE CAN CONNECT THEM TO THE RIGHT PLACE.
BUT THEN IT ALLOWS THEM TO FINANCIAL AID FOLKS OR ADVISOR OR THOSE HONING THEIR SKILL WHICH ISN'T IN 200 CHARACTERS.
IT'S MORE SO THEY CAN ACTUALLY HAVE A CONVERSATION AND GET TO THE MEAT OF THE PROBLEM.
AND OUR SOCIAL MEDIA FOLKS HAVE TO REALLY KEEP IT SUPERCONCISE AND HIGH-LEVEL AND BE ABLE TO CONNECT DOT FORCE THE STUDENTS.
ONE THE SOCIAL MEDIA IS HOPEFULLY ON THEIR STAFF.
YOU HAVE SOMEONE MONITORING SITUATIONS SO THAT IT'S EASY WAY TO RIGHT OR WRONG TO CORRECT AN UNTRUTH.
I KNOW THAT BUSINESSES HAVE REALLY BENEFITTED FROM THAT BY BEING ABLE TO NOT ALLOW SOMEONE JUST ANGRY TO SPEW SOME STUFF OUT AND HURT.
HOPEFULLY WE WATCH THAT ON A TIMELY BASIS AND WE'RE REVERSING PUBLISHING THE FACTS AND THE TRUTH.
>> NUMBER 2, I TRULY THINK WE CAN USE THIS TO PENETRATE FUTURE EMPLOYERS AND FUTURE CLIENTS, TELLING US WHAT SERVICES AND WHAT AREAS THEY LIKE FOR TO US BE IN.
I WOULD THINK THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE US DEVELOPING A WAY FOR US TO BECOME MORE MEMBERS OF MORE GROUPS FOR THEM LIKE FACEBOOK WITHIN LINKED IN GROUPS.
WE QUALIFY FOR A LOT OF THOSE GROUPS.
BY GETTING INTO THE GROUPS WE'RE ABLE TO BEN AT ANY RATE THE BUSINESS OWNER AND THE DECISION MAKERS, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE YOU PUT SOME EFFORT IN HELPING US IF WE CAN ALL RAISE OUR HAND IN THE VARIOUS GROUPS THAT WE HAVE INTEREST IN.
LET US BE THE GROUP MEMBER NOT A STAFF MEMBER.
JUST LET US START AS A TRUSTEE DOING WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DOING.
THAT'S PROMOTING AND ENCOURAGING PEOPLE TO SEE THE BENEFIT OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
[03:40:01]
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THAT.THE FIRST MEETING I ATTENDED I SAID I TRULY BELIEVE WITH A LOT OF PASSION THAT DALLAS COLLEGE ONE OF THE BEST-KEPT SECRETS NOT ONLY IN THE COUNTY BUT THE COUNTRY.
AND WE JUST DESERVE BETTER AND MORE.
I JUST FEEL LIKE WE'RE REALLY POSITIONING -- I THINK THE BOARD HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB OF POSITIONING DALLAS COLLEGE TO TRULY BE THAT LEADER IN THE COUNTRY AS TO HOW WE CAN EFFECT WORKFORCE AND HOW WE CAN EFFECT EDUCATION AND DISADVANTAGED STUDENT BY HOLDING HANDS AND REALLY CONNECTING PEOPLE WHO DON'T REALLY EVEN UNDERSTAND THE ROLE AND MISSION OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
WITH SOCIAL MEDIA WITH HAVE THE ABILITY TO OUR MESSAGE FAIRLY ECONOMICALLY.
AS FAR AS YOUR NEWSLETTER GOES.
IT DEFINITELY I THINK THAT'S A FANTASTIC IDEA AND I THINK IT'S ELECTRONIC NEWSLETTER AS WELL AS SOME SELECTED MAILING.
BUT I THINK IT'S VERY EFFECTIVE AND IT'S WAY TO PUT MORE OF OUR EFFORT OUT THERE AND DOING WHAT WE DO.
I REALLY APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ALL DO.
I'M EXCITED ABOUT BEING A PART OF THIS TEAM.
BECAUSE I THINK YOU GUYS ARE A GREAT TIME.
AND IF THERE ARE ANY GROUPS -- WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE HELP OF THE BOARD TO HELP AMPLIFY THE MESSAGE.
AND THAT'S I THINK WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT IS GIVING YOU KNOW MAKING SURE WE ARE NOT ONLY TELLING OUR MESSAGE IN OUR OWN CHANNEL BUT EXPANDING AND AMPLIFYING INTO OTHER PEOPLE'S CHANNEL AND POSTING AND SHARING OUR POST IN OTHER PLACES.
IF YOU HAVE GROUPS OR YOU WANT THIS, WE CAN GIVE YOU SOCIAL POST LIKE IF YOU ACTIVE IN YOUR CHANNELS, WE CAN CREATE POSTS THAT YOU CAN THEN PLACE IN YOUR OWN CHANNELS, OR YOU CAN EASILY SHARE OURS AND IF YOU'RE NOT EXACTLY SURE HOW TO DO THAT.
WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO HELP YOU UNDERSTAND IF YOU ARE ACTIVE IN SOCIAL MEDIA ALREADY.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE SUGGESTIONS.
I WOULD WELCOME LEARNING HOW TO OPERATE OR DEAL WITH SOCIAL MEDIA BETTER.
AND TRUSTEE BOYD I HAVE TO RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE WITH YOU.
WE USED TO BE A BEST-KEPT SECRET AND I REMEMBER WHEN I FIRST CAME ON THE BOARD THAT, THAT STATEMENT WAS MADE.
IF WE'RE BEST-KEPT SECRET SOMEONE IS NOT DOING THEIR JOB.
I THINK WE'RE DOING MUCH BETTER NOW.
I THINK THE BEST-KEPT SECRET SITUATION WAS TRUE BACK THEN.
I DON'T THINK IT IS AS TRUE NOW.
BECAUSE WE HAVE TOO WIDE A FOOT SPRINT THROUGH OUR PTEC PROGRAMS, THROUGH OUR DUAL CREDIT PROGRAMS. THE DALLAS PROMISE EACH AND EVERY HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR AND THEIR PARENTS GET MESSAGING FROM US.
A LOT OF WORKFORCE MAJOR EMPLOYERS, SMALL BUSINESSES, ET CETERA, ET CETERA.
THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAY OUR COMMUNITY KNOWS ABOUT IT.
IT MAY BE GOOD FOR THAT TO BE SHARED WITH THE BOARD.
HOW MUCH OF A REACH WE HAVE THROUGHOUT THIS COMMUNITY AND NOT ONLY HERE IN DALLAS COUNTY BUT IN THE STATE OF TEXAS AND NATIONALLY.
BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW DALLAS COUNTY SEEN AS LEADER.
AND REGIONALLY WE ARE BECAUSE HERE WE HAVE ISD COME TO US TO OFFER A PROGRAM FOR THEIR STUDENTS.
THANKFULLY THAT'S NOT THE SITUATION SO MUCH ANYMORE.
AND THEN MOVING ON THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP THESE OPTIONS FOR US.
IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US AS TRUSTEES, FOR OUR PARTICULAR CONSTITUENTS TO BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM.
I THINK ONE OF THE GOOD THINGS THAT'S COME OUT OF THIS VIRUS AND HAVING TO OPERATE VIRTUALLY IS NOW WE HAVE TOOLS BY WHICH WE CAN DO THAT.
I WILL CERTAINLY BE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SOME OF WHAT YOU PUT BEFORE US.
BECAUSE IT'S SO IMPORTANT FOR US AS REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PEOPLE TO LET THEM KNOW MORE DIRECTLY FROM US WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER THEM HERE IN OUR COLLEGE.
>> I WILL SAY TO YOUR COMMENT TRUSTEE FLORES.
ONE THING WE HAVE NOW THAT IS REALLY GOING FOR US IS THAT WE'RE NOW ONE DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND BEFORE WE HAD FROM A BRANDING PERSPECTIVE OF ADVERTISING AND ALL THAT.
WE HAD BASICALLY 8 DIFFERENT BRANDS.
AND I THINK THERE'S A LOT OF POWER IN THAT.
[03:45:02]
AND WE'RE JUST GETTING STARTING RIGHT OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS.ONCE THE ROAD OPENS UP AGAIN IT WILL BE STRONGER.
IT WILL BE ALL OVER IN BILLBOARDS AND DARK BUSES AND PLACES WE CAN'T UTILIZE BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T SEE THEM AS MUCH.
BUT WHICH THINK WE HAVE THE STRENGTH OF BEING ONE COLLEGE AND BEING THE DALLAS COLLEGE NOW THAT WE'RE GOING TO SEE THAT BRAND AWARENESS GROW EXPO EXPO THEN I WILL OVER THE NEXT YEAR OR TWO.
>> THAT'S A GREAT TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS THAT YOU KNOW WE WILL FOLLOW UP UP WITH PEARL TO ENGAGE EACH ONE OF YOU TO SEE WHAT YOU ARE MOST INTERESTED IN.
SO MUCH FOR THAT PRESENTATION.
>> IT LOOKS LIKE WE'RE DOING GREAT ON TIME.
AND WE WILL NOW PROCEED INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION.
WE WILL GOING INTO EXECUTIVE SESSION TO DISCUSS ONE OF MORE OF FOLLOWING
[10. Executive Session]
CONSULTATION WITH ATTORNEY REGARDING THE LEGAL MATTERS.PENDING CONTEMPLATED LITIGATION PERSONAL MATTERS RELATING TO EMPLOYMENT, APPOINTMENT, EVALUATIONS ASSIGNMENT, DISMISSAL OF OFFICERS OR EMPLOYEES.
TO DELIBERATE REGARDING REAL PROPERTY SINCE OPEN DELIBERATION WOULD HAVE DETRIMENTAL EFFECT UPON GOECH -- NEGOTIATIONS.
AFTER WE GO RETURN, THERE BE NO OTHER BUSINESS DISCUSSED.
AND WE WILL JUST COME BACK TO ADJOURN.
MISS MOLENA CAN YOU ENSURE INFORMATION HOW WE GO INTO THE NEXT ROOM FOR EXECUTIVE SESSION.
>> SUNNY, YOU WILL GET A TEXT YOU CAN CALL IN.
YOU SHOULD BE SEEING IT SHORTLY.
AND THIS MEETING WILL STILL BE GOING ON.
AND YOU DO NOT NEED TO RETURN TO MEETING ONLY CHAIR BRAVO NEEDS TO RETURN TO ADJOURN THE MEETING.
LOG OUT OF THIS MEETING AND CLOSE THIS MEETING OUT COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU LOG ON TO THE NEXT ONE.
>> THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO JOINED US AT THIS MEETING.
