EDUCATION BOARD WORKFORCE COMMITTEE MEETING[4.A. SACSCOC Accreditation Presenter: Danielle Valle]
WE WILL BEGIN TODAY'S MEETING WITH A PRESENTATION BY DR. DANIELLE VALLE ON THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS.>> HI THANK YOU I WILL JUST GIVE A COUPLE OF COMMENTS LEADING INTO DANIELLE'S PRESENTATION WE'RE REALLY QUITE EXCITED TO BE AT THIS POINT.
IT'S A HARD TO BELIEVE I WANT TO ADD TOO ALONG WITH AT THE VIRTUAL TABLE WITH A DR. DANIELLE WE WILL ALSO HAVE A DR. GREGORY MORRIS OR SENIOR VICE PROVOST FOR ACADEMIC SERVICES.
LIKE I WAS SAYING NORMALLY WHEN WE PRESENT YOU KNOW A ACCREDITATION UPDATE ITS NOT TYPICALLY VERY EXCITING I TRULY THINK THIS IS AN EXCITING PRESENTATION.
BECAUSE IT'S HARD TO BELIEF THAT ONLY NINE MONTHS AGO WE WERE AWAITING OUR APPROVAL FROM ABOUT OUR ONE COLLEGE PROPOSAL.
AT THE SAME TIME WE WERE HIT WITH A GLOBAL PANDEMIC AND SO, AS A RESULT OF YOUR SUPPORT WE WERE IT I BELIEVE APPOINT AT THIS TIME INTERIM LEADERSHIP WITH OUR INTERIM PROVOST BRAD AND VICE CHANCELLOR SEA BROOKS.
WE HAVE BEEN STEADILY MAKING PROGRESS BUILDING UPON THE FOUNDATION THAT THEY ESTABLISHED FOR US REFINING OUR OPERATIONS AS IT RELATES TO ACADEMIC AFFAIRS STUDENT SUCCESS AND WORKFORCE.
SO THIS PRESENTATION IS EXCITING TO ME BECAUSE IT'S REALLY DEMONSTRATING THE WORK THAT WE'VE BEEN ENGAGED AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE ENGAGED IN AS DANIELLE AND GREG PRESENT WHAT WE HAVE DONE IN TERMS OF PLANNING THE PROCESSES WE HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THROUGH AND THEN HOW WE'RE GOING TO BRIN WHICH WILL CAN IRRELEVANT IN FEBRUARY.
DANIELLE F YOU'RE READY YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND BEGIN.
>> THANK YOU ALL FOR HAVING ME.
AND FOR GIVING ME THIS OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE AND YES THIS IS A VERY -- WEE BEEN ENGAGE IN ALLOT ATYPICAL ACCREDITATION WORK THIS SOME WAYS IT AN ATYPICAL UPDATE.
I WILL BE GIVING YOU A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT HOW WE GOT HERE AND SOME OF OUR NEXT STEPS IN OUR ACCREDITATION PROCESS.
WE SUBMITTED OUR PROSPECTUS FOR CONSOLIDATION IN MID MARCH ALONG WITH THAT AT THE SAME TIME WE ALSO SUBMITTED FOR LEVEL CHANGE.
THAT LEVEL CHANGE APPLICATION WAS TO SEEK APPROVAL FROM THE LEVEL 1 INSTITUTION TO ASSOCIATE DEGREE AWARDING AUTHORITY TO MOVE TO LEVEL 2 INSTITUTION FOR OUR BACCALAUREATE AGREE AWARDING AUTHORITY.
BOTH OF THOSE PROPOSALS WERE APPROVED ON JUNE 12TH BY THE SACSCOC BOARD.
AND WE BECAME DALLAS COLLEGE FIRST DAY WAS JUST 3RD OF 2020.
AGAIN AS DR. FLOYD MENTIONED WE HAVE A VISITING TEAM COMING, WOULD HAVE COME PHYSICALLY BUT THEY ARE COMING VIRTUALLY IN MARCH IN FEBRUARY, FROM THE 8 TO THE TENTH.
WE WILL HOSTING THEM AND DISCUSSING WITH THEM THE DETAILS OF OUR CONSOLIDATION AND SHOWING THEM ALL OF THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE TO BECOME DALLAS COLLEGE.
THEY WILL TAKE THEIR REPORT AND SUBMIT IT TO THE SACSCOC BOARD FOR A FINAL CHECK AND CLEAR ON TO OUR REAFFIRMATION AFTER THAT.
NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE UPON CONSOLIDATION WE NAMED EL CENTRO CAMP US A MAIN CAMPUS OF DALLAS COLLEGE THE OTHER 6 HISTORIC COLLEGES AT THE DISTRICT BECAME THE BRANCH CAMPUS OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
WE HAD SEVERAL KEY CHANGES READY TO GO RIGHT UPON OUR APPROVAL AND PROBABLY THE MOST VISIBLE AND TANGIBLE CHANGES WERE OUR BRANDING.
OUR BRANDING AND WEBSITE CHANGE WERE READY TO GO UPON THAT APPROVAL.
AND THAT START OF THE OFFICIAL START DATE OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
AND AT THE SCHOOLS, OUR NEW SCHOOLS OF MODEL WERE PLACED AND READY TO GO AS WELL A LEADERSHIP FOR WORKFORCE ADVANCEMENT AND STUDENT SERVICES READY TO GO ACTUALLY A COUPLE DAYS BEFORE OUR OFFICIAL START DAY OF DALLAS COLLEGE.
>> EXCUSE ME I THINK WE HAVE A QUESTION FROM CHAIR FLORES.
>> I'M SORRY I FORGET TO PUT MY HAND DOWN THAT WAS DURING AUDIT COMMITTEE MEETING I'LL PUT IT DOWN, THANK YOU.
>> WE'VE CONTINUED TO BUILD OUR LEADERSHIP STRUCTURE SINCE THAT TIME.
SO IN OCTOBER WE HAVE OUR LEADERSHIP FOR E LEARNING AREAS AS WELL AS ADDITIONAL STUDENT SUCCESS LEADERS PLACED AND ALL OF THOSE LEADERS HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN LOOKING THROUGH OUR PROCESSES ACROSS THE INSTITUTION
[00:10:03]
AND BRINGING ALIGNMENT AND CONSISTENCY TO THEM AS WE MOVE FROM 7 COLLEGES TO 1 DALLAS COLLEGE.AND DR. GREG MORRIS GOING TO WALK US THROUGH SOME OF THE EXAMPLES IN THE INSTRUCTION AND ACADEMIC SERVICES SIDE ACTIVITY THAT THEY'VE BEEN ENGAGED IN AND SOME OF THIS WILL BE INFORMING OUR NARRATIVE FOR OUR SACSCOC VISIT AS PART OF OUR DEMONSTRATION OF OUR MOVE TO DALLAS COLLEGE.
IF YOU COULD MOVE TO THE NEXT SLIDE.
>> YOU KNOW AS DANIELLE MENTIONED THERE ARE A LOT OF STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE FOR US TO BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE TO SACSCOC ON HOW FUNDAMENTALLY WE'VE CHANGED AS A COLLEGE.
AND ON THIS SLIDE THIS REALLY FEATURES SOME THE KEY INSTRUCTIONAL AREAS THAT WILL BE IMPORTANT TO A DEMONSTRATE AND SPEAK TO.
AND WE'VE MADE SOME REAL GREAT PROGRESS IN THESE AREAS.
PARTICULARLY AS IT RELATES TO AREAS LIKE EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS.
IT WILL BE IMPORTANT FOR US TO ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE TO SACSCOC ON HOW WE'VE TAKEN SERIOUS OUR EXPANDED ROLE WITH DUAL CREDIT PARTNERS AND SETTING UP FUNCTIONAL UNITS LIKE EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS WILL IMPORTANT.
EQUALLY SO, FOR US IS CENTER EXCELLENCE AND TEACHING LEARNING WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE HOW DALLAS COLLEGE IS A NEW ENTITY IS GLOBALLY ADDRESSING TEACHING EFFECTIVENESS AND THAT CAN RANGE FROM ANYTHING FROM HOW WE'RE NAVIGATING TO AT COVID RESPONSE AND WAYS IN WHICH WE'RE ENHANCING ONLINE LEARNING.
AND THEN, SEVERAL OTHERS THAT I MENTIONED ON HERE T PARTICULARLY AROUND CURRICULUM ASSESSMENT AND PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT.
AGAIN WE'RE ANXIOUS TO BE ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE THROUGH THIS NARRATIVE BUT ALSO IN THE FEBRUARY VISIT THE IMPORTANCE OF HOW WE'RE MOVING TOGETHER AS ONE COLLEGE UNTIL DEVELOPING CURRICULUM REVIEWING THAT CURRICULUM AND REALLY TAKING A BROAD PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVE FOR OUR PROGRAMS. NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.
>> I HAVE A QUESTION ON THAT SLIDE.
>> OKAY, SO THESE ARE THE AREAS THAT ARE GOING TO BE UNDER YOU VICE PROVOST MORRIS?
CHAIR FLORES, SOME OF THESE REPRESENT AREAS THAT UNDER MY AUTHORITY BUT FOR INSTANCE EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF ANNA MAY REPORTS DIRECTLY TO THE PROVOST.
BUT THE REST OF THESE AREAS MENTIONED HERE DEFINITELY REPORT UP THROUGH ME AND DAB ACADEMIC SERVICES AREA.
DOCTOR SINCE IS NEW TO BOARD A WORK IN PROGRESS, IT WOULD BE GOOD FOR THESE TYPES OF PRESENTATIONS TO NOTE WHO LEADS THE EFFORT IN EACH OF THEM AND THEN, WHERE WE ARE.
ARE THEY FULLY IMPLEMENT NOW STILL IN PROCESS? A TIMELINE FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION ET CETERA JUST TO GIVE US A GOOD IDEA WHY WE ARE ORGANIZATIONALLY.
AND WE ARE STILL IN PROGRESS ON HAVING THESE OUT AT THIS TIME.
SO ONGOING WORK AS WE PUT THIS IN PLACE.
SOME OF THESE WE'RE NOT INTO THE PROCESS, SOME OF THEM WE'RE STILL IN EARLY PHASES.
>> C INCLUDES THAT INFORMATION?
>> WE'RE HAPPY TO DO THAT LITERALLY CHANGING OH WEEKLY AND DAILY BASIS AS WE GO FORWARD.
BUT I THINK WE'RE PROBABLY FAIRLY STATIC BETWEEN NOW AND FIRST OF YEAR.
THEN WE WILL I THINK CELEBRATION OF THAT GOING FORWARD WITH A NUMBER OF CHANGES TAKING MACE.
>> WITH THAT WOULD THAT ANTICIPATED TIMELINE BY WHEN THE TRANSITION IS COMPLETE AND NOW IT'S FULLY FUNCTIONING YOU KNOW FOR EACH OF THOSE AREAS?
THEY WILL, THEY WILL VARY ALONG THE WAY.
YOU KNOW, SOME OF THESE WILL MOVE QUICKLY ON.
OTHERS WE'LL PROBABLY STILL BE A COUPLE OF YEARS AND RUSHING OUT AUTO ASPECTS OF THESE
>> AGAIN IT WOULD HELPFUL TO HAVE THEM ANTICIPATED TIMELINE FOR FULL IMPLEMENTATION FOR EXAMPLE WHEN WE WERE GOING TO DO THE ERP WE WERE GIVEN A TIMELINE BY WHICH WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE COMPLETE AND JUST, HELPS US, SPEAKING FOR MYSELF
I THINK WE'RE REALLY GETTING CLOSER TO SOME OF THAT YOU KNOW EARLY ON WE AS WE WORKED THROUGH THE LEVELS, THAT HAS BEEN SOMEWHAT FLUID.
TODAY WE KNEW WHAT THE AREAS WERE.
BUT QUITE FRANKLY, THE SACSCOC PROCESS WE REALLY FOCUSED ON THOSE AREAS THAT ON THE ACADEMIC SIDE THAT WERE CRITICAL TO LOOKING LIKE ONE COLLEGE.
AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT CERTAINLY ARE IMPORTANT FROM DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS BUT NOT HAVING NECESSARILY BEING HANDLED BY FEBRUARY, WE, WE NOT TAPPED ON THE BRAKES BUT WE CERTAINLY HELD BACK
[00:15:05]
AND PUT OUR EFFORT INTO THESE OTHER AREAS.>> IF YOU COULD GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.
SO YOU KNOW TO YOUR POINT DR. MAY AND CHAIR FLORES AS WELL.
ONE OF THE KEY ELEMENTS TO OUR COMING SACSCOC VISIT AND ALSO PREPARING THIS REPORT SO MANY TIMES WHEN WE SPEAK OF SACSCOC WE THINK FROM ACADEMIC LENS BUT THERE ARE IT'S ALL ENCO INSTRUCTIONAL AREAS, BUT, STUDENT SERVICE FUNCTIONS AND ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS AS WELL.
AND SO, THIS SLIDE JUST PRETTY MUCH DEMONSTRATES ONGOING WORK WE HAVE RELATIVE TO THE RESTRUCTURING OF NOT ONLY ACADEMIC AREAS, BUT ACROSS THE BROAD SPECTRUM OF OUR ORGANIZATION FROM FACILITIES TO STUDENT SERVICES.
AND WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT AREAS.
>> AS FINAL POINT I WANTED TO MENTION TOO THIS WILL BE SOMETHING WE WILL BE SPEAKING TO IN SACSCOC REPORT AS WELL YOU KNOW BECOMING DALLAS COLLEGE HAS REALLY HELPED US TO BECOME MORE STRATEGIC HOW WE LEVERAGE AND IMPLEMENT KEY INITIATIVE AT OUR STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE FOR OH STUDENTS.
AND SO, PROJECTS LIKE INCLUDE ED WE LAUNCHED THIS FALL WHICH PROVIDE LEARNING MATERIALS FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, AND ALSO, I MENTION ON HERE AS WELL FACULTY CREDENTIALING WE'RE IN PROCESS RIGHT NOW OF COMBINING ALL OF OUR FACULTY CREDENTIALING AND DOING AN AUDIT IT OF THAT AT EACH CAMPUS LOCATION.
WITH THE INTENDED PURPOSE OF BRINGING THAT ENTIRELY TOGETHER AND ALSO, HELPING US DALLAS COLLEGE TO A LEVERAGE THE BROAD SPECTRUM OF OUR FACULTY TALENT REGARDLESS OF CAMPUS LOCATION.
SO THAT'S SOMETHING WE WILL SPEAKING TO AS WELL IN OUR WORK THAT'S ONGOING AS IT RELATES TO FACULTY CREDENTIALING FINALLY I'LL MENTION AS WELL AS WE BECAME ONE COLLEGE AS WELL IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO STRATEGICALLY ADDRESS AREAS ACROSS OUR PORTFOLIO PROGRAMS WHERE WE MAY EITHER NEED TO DO SOME CONSOLIDATION OR ADDRESS DUPLICATE PROGRAMS ON THIS SLIDE, OF COURSE, SOME OF THOSE MORE HIGH PROFILE PROGRAMS LIKE NURSING WHERE WE HAVE THREE PROGRAMS ACROSS DIFFERENT CAMPUSES AND SEVERAL OTHER OF OUR ALLIED HEALTH PROGRAMS WE HAVE ONGOING WORK NOT ONLY NOTIFYING AND INFORMING THE PROGRAMMATIC ACCREDITATION LIKE TEXAS BOARD OF NURSING AND ASN BUT WE WILL SPEAK TO THAT A SACSCOC REPORT AS WELL WITH HOW WE'RE MOVING FORWARD WITH PROGRAM CONSOLIDATION.
THAT PROVIDE'S JUST OVERARCHING SOME OF THE PROGRAMMATIC ASPECTS BUT ALSO STRA FORWARD WITH THAT WE WILL MAKE SURE TO REFERENCE IN PREPARATION FOR THIS UP COMING VISIT.
SO DANIELLE I'LL TURN IT BACK OVER TO YOU NOW AND YOU CAN ROUND IT OUT WITH SOME FINAL THOUGHTS RELATIVE TO THIS EFFORT.
SO AS DR. MORRIS MENTIONED WE DO HAVE NOT JUST THIS ALLIED HEALTH PROGRAMS WE HAVE SOME OTHER PROGRAMS THAT DO HAVE PROGRAMMATIC ACCREDITATION.
AND SO THE FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATIVE THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN ENSURING THAT THOSE ACCREDITING BODIES ARE AWARE OF OUR CHANGE AND ENGAGING WITH THEM TO DETERMINE OUR STEPS FORWARD AND ENSURING WE CONTINUE THAT ACCREDITATION FOR SPECIALIZED PROGRAMS MOVING FORWARD.
ALSO BEEN ENGAGED WITH OUR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS TEAM TO DO A SORT OF AUDIT OF OUR OFF CAMPUS INSTRUCTIONAL SITES THOSE BEING SATELLITE CAMPUS AND DUAL CREDIT SITES TO ENSURE THAT WE HAVE ALL OF OUR RECORDS MATCH THE RECORDS THAT SACSCOC HAS AND THAT WE HAVE ALL OF THOSE CONSISTENTLY AND APPROPRIATELY DOCUMENTED.
AND THEN, AS WELL WITH THE TEXAS HIGHER EDUCATION COORDINATING BOARD WE'VE GONE THROUGH WORKING CLOSELY WITH THEM TO ENSURE THAT WE HAVE AGAIN THAT RECONCILIATION OF OUR RECORDS OF LIST OF PROGRAMS AND OUR ZIP CODES TO SYNCH UP AND ENSURE WE HAVE CONSISTENCY AND ALIGNMENT WITH WHAT THEY HAVE AS DALLAS COLLEGE'S PROGRAMS AND WHAT WE HAVE AS OUR PORTFOLIO.
>> SO THE ONE OTHER KEY PROJECTS THAT WE ARE PROCEEDING WITH IS THE IMPLEMENTATION OF OUR LOG PROGRAMS. THOSE ARE GOING TO HELP US MANAGE OUR CATALOG AND OUR I'M SORRY?
>> I THINK SOMEBODY IS NOT MUTED.
CAN WE HAVE EVERYONE WHO IS NOT SPEAKING MUTE THEMSELVES, PLEASE?
[00:20:05]
OKAY.>> SO ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE ARE WORKING ON IS THAT IMPLEMENTATION OF USING THAT SOFTWARE AND WE ANTICIPATE IN THE SPRING THE STARTING OF TRAINING PROCESS SO THAT WE CAN HAVE THAT CURRICULUM AND UNIFIED AND SEAMLESS WAY THAT ALLIANCE WITH OUR SCHOOLS OF MODEL.
AND IN MID OCTOBER WE ALSO HELD A FACULTY WORKSHOP IN WHICH WE GAVE THE FACULTY AND UPDATE ON OUR ACCREDITATION STATUS SOME OF THE FRAME WORKS THAT WE HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHING FOR DALLAS COLLEGE AROUND OUR CURRICULUM MANAGEMENT AND ASSESSMENT AND INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS.
SO WE WERE SHARING SOME OF THOSE BROAD FRAMEWORKS BUT REALLY ALSO ASKING FOR THEM TO ENGAGE AND GIVING US THEIR FEEDBACK AND THEIR RECOMMENDATIONS FOR HOW WE FLESH OUT THOSE PROCESSES FOR DALLAS COLLEGE MOVING FORWARD.
SO OUR NEXT STEPS FOR OUR CONSOLIDATION ARE THE PREPARATION OF THE REPORT THAT GOES TO THE VISITING COMMITTEE.
THAT REPORT IS DUE TO THEM ON JANUARY 5TH.
SO WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF ASSEMBLING ALL OF THOSE DOCUMENTS OF EVIDENCE OF OUR PROGRESS TO DATE.
AND WE WILL BE HOSTING THAT VIRTUAL VISIT IN FEBRUARY AGAIN FROM FEBRUARY 8TH-10.
AND THE PURPOSE OF THAT VISIT FOR THESE SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE COMMITTEE TO ASSESS WE HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT SEA PROGRESS IN OUR CONSOLIDATION TO BECOMING ONE COLLEGE.
THEY ARE BASICALLY HEAR TO CONFIRM THAT WE HAVE MOVED TO A SINGLE OPERATING THINK EL INSTITUTION AND THAT WE HAVE NOT STAYED STUCK IN OLD SYSTEMS RETAIN 7 SEPARATE INSTITUTIONS OTHER THING THEY ARE HERE TO ASSESS DURING THIS PERIOD OF TRANSITION DALLAS COLLEGE MAINTAINED COMPLIANCE WITH CORE REQUIREMENTS OF THEIR SACSCOC ACCREDITATION STANDARDS.
THE OUTCOMES OF THAT VISIT REALLY TWO POSSIBLE OUTCOMES.
ONE OUTCOME IS THAT THEY HAVE NO RECOMMENDATIONS AND THEY SEND THEIR REPORT TO THE SACSCOC BOARD IN JUNE OF 2021.
AND THAT KIND OF WRAPS IT UP THERE.
I WOULD SAY THAT'S UNLIKELY UNCOMMON OUTCOME.
THE MORE COMMON OUTCOME IS THAT THEY HAVE SOME AREA THAT THEY WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE EVIDENCE OF OUR PROGRESS AND WOULD LIKE US TO SUBMIT AN ADDITIONAL REPORT THAT SPECIFIC TO A PARTICULAR STANDARD.
SO I DO ANTICIPATE AND WOULD EXPECT THAT TO BE THE MORE LIKELY OUTCOME OF THAT VISIT.
AND IF THAT THAT REPORT AND WE WOULD THEN SEND THEIR REPORT TO THE SACSCOC BOARD IN DECEMBER OF 2021.
OUR NEXT STEPS WITH LEVEL CHANGE FOLLOW EXACT SAME PATTERN WE EXPECT TO HAVE A SITE VISIT FOR THAT IN VERY, VERY LATE 2021 OR EARLY 2022.
AGAIN, THE MORE LIKELY OUTCOME OF THAT VISIT THEY HAVE SOME RECOMMENDATION OR SOME INFORMATION THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THAT WE WOULD WRITE AN ADDITIONAL REPORT FOR AND THAT WHEN THEIR REPORT IS CONCLUDED WE WOULD SUBMIT THAT TO THE FOLLOWING SACSCOC BOARD MEETING.
WE HAVE ALSO RECEIVED SOME INFORMAL NOTIFICATION THAT ONE OF OUR MONITORING REPORTS FROM ONE OF THE COLLEGES IS GOING TO CONTINUE.
AND SO WE ANTICIPATE GETTING MORE SPECIFIC INFORMATION IN MID JANUARY ABOUT WHAT THAT REPORT ENTAILS.
BUT WE KNOW THAT IT IS RELATED TO A PROGRAMMATIC ASSESSMENT SO WE ALSO ANTICIPATE SUBMITTING A PROGRAMMATIC ASSESSMENT REPORT FOR DALLAS COLLEGE THAT WILL LIKELY BE DUE IN SEPTEMBER.
AND THAT BRINGS ME TO PREPARING FOR REAFFIRMATION VISIT.
HISTORICALLY COLLEGES WERE CLASS OF 2023 BUT BECAUSE OF CONSOLIDATION THEY DID GRACIOUSLY BUMP US OUT A LITTLE BIT AND WE ARE NOW DALLAS COLLEGE CLASS OF 2025.
WHICH MEANS OUR SITE VISIT FOR OUR REAFFIRMATION OF OUT CREDIT DAYS WILL HAPPEN IN FALL OF 2024 WITH OUR COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION REPORT DUE IN SPRING OF THAT YEAR.
AND THAT CONCLUDES MY PRESENTATION.
AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO TAKE ANY QUESTIONS.
>> I WAS JUST TO HAVE DANIELLE TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE PROCESS THAT WE'RE GOING THROUGH NOW AND THEN THE ACTUALLY THE REAFFIRMATION OF ACCREDITATION THAT WILL OCCUR IN 2025.
A LOT OF FOLKS THEY SOUND SIMILAR BUT THEY ARE ACTUALLY FAIR DISTINCT AND DIFFERENT PROCESSES.
[00:25:01]
SO THE PROCESSES THAT WE'RE INVOLVED IN NOW DO INVOLVE A FEW COMPONENTS THAT ARE DO OVERLAP WITH AT COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION IN THAT WE DO REPORTING ON SOME A FEW OF THE CORE REQUIREMENTS.
BUT REALLY, THE SUBSTANTIVE CHANGE PROCESS IS FOR THOSE COMMITTEES TO VERIFY THAT WE DID WHAT WE SAID WE WERE GOING TO DO IN THOSE APPLICATION AND PROSPECTUSES SO THAT WE DID IN FACT CONSOLIDATE AND MOVE TO AN OPERATING LIKE A SINGLE INSTITUTION FOR CONSOLIDATION.
AND THAT WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED AN APPROPRIATE BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM FOR THAT CORRESPONDS WITH LEVEL CHANGE APPROVAL.
AND OUR REAFFIRMATION IS A MUCH LARGER PROCESS FOR SURE.
THE COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION DOES ENTAIL DEMONSTRATING OUR COMPLIANCE WITH ALL OF THE SACSCOC ACCREDITATION RUMORS.
SO THAT IS A MUCH LARGER REPORT AND PROCESS THAT TAKES AN UM COULD HAVE YEARS TO DRAFT.
SO WE DO ANTICIPATE SORT OF THEY WILL PROBABLY A LITTLE BIT OVERLAP OF WHERE WE ARE COMPLETING THESE PROCESSES.
AND THEN PIVOTING TOWARD THAT COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATION.
WHILE THIS PROCESS DANIELLE HAS PROBABLY INVOLVED A FEW HUNDRED OF OUR EMPLOYEES IN THE PROCESS THE REAFFIRMATION PROCESS INVOLVES THOUSANDS OF OUR EMPLOYEES IN THE PROCESS.
EVEN GO SOME CASES BEYOND THE INSTITUTION.
SO THAT'S GOING TO BE A MORE COMPREHENSIVE EFFORT AS WE GET THAT UNDER WAY.
RIGHT NOW WE'VE REALLY BEEN FOCUSED ON SINGLE GOAL.
AND OPERATING LIKE A SINGLE INSTITUTION.
>> TRUSTEE RITTER DID YOU HAVE A QUESTION?
THANKS FOR THE PRESENTATION, DANIELLE AND GREG.
I WAS CURIOUS YOU MENTIONED THE FACULTY CREDENTIALING PROCESS AND REVIEW AND AUDIT.
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE TODAY AND HOW IT MIGHT CHANGE AND OF THIS REVIEW ALSO INTERESTED IN YOUR OBSERVATIONS HOW FACULTY'S INVOLVED IN THIS PROCESS.
I MEAN WORKSHOP WAS MENTIONED BUT I SUSPECT IT'S MUCH DEEPER THAN THAT.
SO, I'D INTERESTED IN YOUR THOUGHTS ON THAT.
>> D MIGHT FILL IN ANY GAPS THAT I MIGHT HAVE MISSED.
TRUSTEE RITTER, THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
THERE'S MECHANICAL PIECE TO THIS PROJECT THAT IS JUST SHEER WHAT IT IS, WE'VE HAD TO PHYSICALLY AND GO TO EACH LOCATION BECAUSE MANY TIMES OUR FACULTY CREDENTIAL DOCUMENTS TRANSCRIPTS, FACULTY CREDENTIALS ARE HOUSED AT DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ACROSS OUR SEVEN LOCATIONS.
WE DID A COMPREHENSIVE AUDIT THAT WE HAVE NOW FINISHED WHERE WE ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY WENT TO EACH LOCATION, TRACKED AUDITED EVERY CREDENTIAL AND WE'RE IN THE PROCESS RIGHT NOW OF CREATING COMMON REPOSITORY FROM WHICH WE WILL BE ABLE TO PULL AND USE THOSE FACULTY CREDENTIAL BOTH FULL TIME A JINX ACROSS OUR ENTIRE AT ALL SEVEN LOCATIONS.
IN ADDITION TO THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT WHAT TECHNOLOGY WE CAN USE IN THE FUTURE TO BOTH BE ABLE TO RECORD AND MORE EFFECTIVELY BE ABLE TO PULL IN AND EVALUATE WHERE OUR FACULTY TALENT PARTICULARLY IS IF WE HAVE A SPECIFIC NEED A CREDIT HOUSE IN WORKFORCE AND ADVANCEMENT IF WE GET APPROACHED BY BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY ABOUT A SPECIFIC NEED, THIS AUDIT IS REALLY GOING TO ESPECIALLY HIS REALLY HONE IN ON WHERE, WHERE COMPREHENSIVELY OUR FACULTY TALENT LIES.
WE ARE ALSO MOVING AWAY FROM PHYSICAL DOCUMENTATION, MOST OF OUR CAMPUS HAVE KEPT THOSE PHYSICAL CREDENTIALS WE'RE GOING TO MOVE TOWARD AN ELECTRONIC FORMAT.
AND WE'RE IN THE PROCESS RIGHT NOW OF WE'VE GOT A SMALL TEAM WORKING ON TRANSFERRING ALL OF THOSE DOCUMENTS AND MOVING FORWARD.
SOCIETY'S A KIND OF A LONG PROJECT WITH I WOULD I WILL SHARE WITH YOU AS WELL WE'RE ALSO LOOKING WAYS IN WHICH IN FUTURE WE CAN PUBLICLY USE OUR CREDENTIAL BASE OF OUR FACULTY TO BE ABLE TO PUT THAT OUT PUBLICLY SO THAT BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY CAN KIND OF SEE THE BREADTH AND DEPTH OF OUR FACULTY TALENT ACROSS INDUSTRY CERTIFICATIONS SO, IT'S SO IT'S PRETTY EXCITING EFFORT BUT RIGHT NOW KIND OF IN MECHANICS PART OF IT WE'RE JUST KIND OF PULLING ALL OF THIS STUFF TOGETHER.
TRUSTEE RITTER, SOMETIMES THIS GETS A LITTLE BIT CONFLATED WITH TERMS OF HOW WE HIRE AND PROMOTE PEOPLE WHILE THE TWO HAVE SOME OVERLAP, THIS IS MUCH MORE GRANULAR IN TERMS OF THE EXPECTATION OF THE ACCREDITOR OR
[00:30:03]
OTHER ACCREDITING BODIES THAT MAY GET ACTION INVOLVED BECAUSE SACSCOC MAY WANT TO SEE, FOR INSTANCE, WE'RE KEEPING FOR OUR EMS PROGRAMS OR SOME OTHER SUBSET THERE.SO THIS IS A -- AND THIS ACTUALLY GETS DOWN WHERE WITHIN THE TEAM COMES IN THEY WILL PULL THIS ON A COURSE BY COURSE BASIS AND OUR FACULTY ARE TEACHING TO VAL DADE THAT THEY HAVE CURRENT QUALIFICATIONS TO TEACH THOSE COURSES.
SO THIS TENDS TO BE MUCH MORE OF A LIVING DOCUMENT IN MANY BASE, WHICH IS WHY THANK GOODNESS WE'RE LOOKING SOME TECHNOLOGY TO MANAGE THAT.
A THEY HAVE BASICALLY BEEN HOUSED FOR 54 YEARS IN MASSIVE RING BINDERS WHERE WE UPDATE THOSE ON A PROBABLY A SEMIANNUAL BASIS TO MAKE SURE THEY STAY CURRENT.
>> THANK YOU THE REVIEW INCLUDE NOT JUST FULL TIME FACULTY BUT ADJUNCT.
I MEAN IDEA IS TO TRY TO INVENTORY IF YOU WILL OUR ENTIRE TEACHING TALENT BASE AND ALL THEIR SKILLS AND CREDENTIAL, RIGHT?
>> YEAH YOU'RE 100 PERCENT CORRECT.
SO WE WILL BE DOING THAT AUDIT AS WELL.
BECAUSE, FOR MANY OF OUR PROGRAM FACULTY AS WELL, THEY CONTINUE TEACHING ON CURRENT LICENSURE AS WELL.
SO PART TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION WILL BE REALLY FOR US TO BE ABLE TO CONSTANTLY KIND BE ON CUTTING EDGE WHEN LICENSURE AND A WHEN GET RENEW LICENSURE WE CAN ASSIST THE FACULTY BECAUSE AS DR. MAY MENTIONED THAT ONE KEY COMPONENTS OF SACSCOC TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE RIGHT FACULTY AND RIGHT COURSE LEVEL AND THERE'S A MARRIAGE BETWEEN THE CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THAT COURSE AND WHAT THAT FACULTY MEMBER HAS.
THANK YOU, DANIELLE, APPRECIATE IT.
>> SO HOW DID WE HANDLE THAT ISSUE PREVIOUS BEFORE THE TRANSITION TO ONE COLLEGE, THE CREDENTIALING AND LICENSURE ISSUE
GOOD THING WE WERE OPERATING FROM THE SAME BASIC GUIDE AS FAR AS THE REQUIREMENTS GO.
SO WE'RE NOT, WE'RE NOT AS FAR OFF WHERE WE COULD BE.
IT WAS REALLY THE DIFFERENCE BEING IN THE MECHANICS OF HOW DO, WHAT'S THE PROCESS WHO TOUCHES AND WHERE IS IT STORED VERY COLLEGE TO COLLEGE.
AND SO WE THANKFULLY, DON'T HAVE A CONCERN THAT WE ARE OUT OF COMPLIANCE REGARDING OUR WHAT OUR FACULTY ARE ACTUALLY CREDENTIALED FOR AND ACTUALLY TEACHING WE'RE REALLY JUST DECIDING ON WHAT IS THE DALLAS COLLEGE PROCESS, HOW IS DALLAS COLLEGE GOING TO TOUCH AND STORE THESE DOCUMENTS.
SO THAT EQUILIBRIUM AWAY HAVE THAT CONSISTENCY ACROSS BOARD.
SO THERE WAS MOSTLY VARIATION CAME IN JUST THE MECHANICS OF HANDLING THE DOCUMENTATION.
WE WERE OPERATING ON THE SAME GOALS IF YOU WILL.
I THINK THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE FOR US MAYBE 20 YEARS.
ANYWAY REMEMBER THAT WAS AN ISSUE.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT PRESENTATION.
[5.A. 1) Approval of Interlocal Agreement Between Dallas College (DC) and City of Dallas for Commercial HVAC Program to Expand HVAC Workforce Training Program]
WE WILL GO ON TO THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA, WHICH IS JUST AN OVERVIEW THE AGENDA ITEMS WE WILL VOTING ON LATER TODAY IN OUR BOARD MEETING.SO WE HAVE APPROVAL OF INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN DALLAS COLLEGE AND THE CITY OF DALLAS FOR H VAC PROGRAM.
DR. WILKINS OR DO EITHER ONE YOU WANT TO TOUCH ON THAT BRIEFLY?
THIS IS AN AGREEMENT TO WHICH CITY OF DALLAS IS AWARDING US $100,000 TO HELP PROVIDE TRAINING FOR INDIVIDUALS IN COMMERCIAL HEATING VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING.
THIS IS A RESULT OF EXPANSION OF THAT PROGRAM AT CEDAR VALLEY COLLEGE.
THEY, THEY ARE ONE OF SEVERAL WHO HAVE COME IN TO HELP US FUND THIS EXPANSION.
SO YOU WILL SEE ON ITEM WE HAVE ALSO RECEIVED CONTRIBUTIONS FROM A COUPLE DIFFERENT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION AND THIS IS THIS IS JUST CITY OF DALLAS AGREEMENT TO GIVE US THAT $100,000.
I DON'T THINK I SEE ANY QUESTIONS ON THAT.
[00:35:02]
THANK YOU.[5.B. 1) Adoption of Resolution Establishing the Board’s Mission Statement and Adopting the Strategic Priorities as that of Dallas College]
AND THEN THE LAST ITEM IF RESOLUTION WE WILL BE ALSO VOTING ON TO ADOPT ESTABLISHING BOARD MISSION STATEMENT ADOPTING THE STRATEGIC PRIORITIES OF THAT AS DALLAS COLLEGE.DR. FLOYD, IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD ON THAT?
THAT'S JUST ITEM THAT WE NEED TO MOVE FORWARD AND INN ALIGNMENT THAT WE'RE DOING WITH ACCREDITATION WITH SACSCOC.
FORMALLY WE HAD 7 COLLEGES AND WHILE WE ALL NESTED UNDER BOARD MISSION AND VISION WE ENGAGED IN DIFFERENT STRATEGIC VISIONING AND PLANNING PROCESS.
THIS WILL ALLOW US TO COME TOGETHER AND DR. MAY MIGHT SPEAK MORE ABOUT THAT.
I KNOW WE HAVE A PLANNING SESSION IN JANUARY.
BUT THAT'S WHAT NECESSITATES THIS ACTION.
AND AS WE HISTORICALLY WITH SEVEN COLLEGE EACH WHILE THEY OPERATE UNDER BOARD'S GOALS THEY HAD TO HAVE THEIR OWN SPECIFIC GOALS AND THEY HAD TO HAVE THEIR OWN STRATEGIC PLAN THAT WAS UNIQUE AMONG THE COLLEGES.
SO AS GOT READY FOR THIS YEAR PLANNING PROCESS I THINK WE HAVE DATE SCHEDULED FOR JANUARY 19TH, WE WILL GET THAT UNDER WAY.
THAT WILL BE PART TO COME TOGETHER FOR A CONTINUE WITH AT BOARD DRIVING THEM BUT THIS IS GOING TO ALLOW US TO REALLY PUT IN PLACE A MORE STRATEGIC EFFORT COVERING ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS, ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS ALL OF OUR SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE INTO A SINGLE UNIFIED PLAN.
AND OF COURSE WE'RE KIND OF ASKING THE BOARD TO CHANGE ANYTHING THAT WE'VE ALREADY DONE, WITH THIS RESOLUTION, WE DO NEED THIS FOR THE REPORT GOING INTO SACSCOC JUST TO CERTIFY THAT IN FACT WE DO HAVE THIS IN PLACE, THIS IS ONE OF THE VERY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE IN ORDER TO A HAVE THE NEXT ROUND OF DOCUMENTATION FOR OUR WORK.
AND CERTAINLY, ASK THE BOARD TO SUPPORT THAT.
KNOWING THAT PROBABLY SOME OF THE ITEMS YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO COME BACK AND TAKE LOOK AT AND WE'RE GOING TO GIVE YOU THAT OPPORTUNITY AS WE LOOK FOR THE NEXT YEAR ALL WE'RE DOING RIGHT NOW IS MAINTAINING THE SAME ONE THAT IS WE'V 2021 GOING FORWARD.
AND THEN WE'LL BE BEGIN TO PLAN THE 21-22 WITH THE BOARD AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR.
IS THERE ANYTHING ABOUT THE ACCREDITATION PROCESS THAT KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT? I MEAN DO WE HAVE ANY RISK AREAS? IS THERE ANYTHING THAT THE BOARD SHOULD BE ATTENTIVE TO OR AWARE OF WHAT MIGHT BE COMING US TO IN THE NEXT COUPLE MONTHS IN ORDER TO MOVE THIS FORWARD? WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP? I'M JUST CURIOUS TO YOUR GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE ON THIS.
>> THANK YOU FOR THE QUESTION, TRUSTEE RITTER.
HONESTLY I HAVE LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN OUR TEAM DANIELLE HAS IN CONSTANT COMMUNICATION.
THE THING THAT KEEPS ME UP AT NIGHT JUST MAKING SURE WE'RE ALL UNIFIED AND LOT OF WORK HAS BEEN DONE IN THAT AREA.
PARTICULARLY LIKE DR. MORRIS WAS TALKING ABOUT CREDENTIALING.
WE'VE ALL BEEN DOING ALL OF THIS WORK WE AUTO HAD OUR SEARCH SEPARATE ACCREDITATIONS WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DEMONSTRATE IS WE'RE NOW ONE.
REALLY JUST CHECKING AND RECHECKING ALL OF OUR PROCESS TO ENSURE THERE'S ALIGNMENT THERE.
WE ALWAYS HAVE THE SUPPORT OF BOARD WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR THAT.
BUT IT'S REALLY JUST CHECKING AND RECHECKING DANIEL MIGHT PICK UP AND SAY MORE BECAUSE I KNOW SHE'S WORKED WATT CREDIT TORS MORE CLOSELY.
BUT IT JUST MAKE SURE ALIGNMENT IS CLEAR, ARTICULATED THAT WE CAN DEMONSTRATE IT TO THEM WHEN THEY COME.
YOU KNOW, HAVING SERVE ACCREDITATION TEAMS YOUR TEAM MAKEUP IS ALWAYS DIFFERENT.
YOU'RE NOT SURE WITH ONE PARTICULAR MEMBER MIGHT BE MORE INTERESTED IN THAN ANOTHER.
SO I SAY MY PRAYERS ABOUT HAVING A GOOD TEAM.
HAVING TEAM THAT'S NOT YOU KNOW GOING TO GO DOWN ONE PARTICULAR PATHWAY OR ANOTHER.
BUT I THINK WE ARE REALLY IN A GREAT POSITION.
BECAUSE WE ARE PUTTING IN THE WORK AND THAT'S BEING LED BY DANIELLE.
CAN'T THANK HER ENOUGH FOR THE PROCESS THAT SHE'S IMPLEMENTING AND ENSURING THAT WE'RE JUST CHECKING AND RECHECKING ON A DAILY BASIS THOSE ITEMS THIS WE KNOW WILL BE A OF THE REVIEW.
>> AND BEFORE DANIELLE JUMPS I MIGHT JUST SAY TRUSTEE RITTER, YOU KNOW
[00:40:01]
ONE OF THE GOODS THAT I'VE OBSERVED IN THIS PROCESS IS THAT SACSCOC ITSELF ALREADY HAD GREAT DEAL OF CONFIDENCE IN THE PROVEN OFFICE DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE.IT WAS CLEAR FROM THE MEETING WITH IN ATLANTA TO MEET WITH THE A TEAM THAT, THEY UNDERSTOOD THE REASON WHY WE WERE DOING THIS.
THEY MADE THE COMMENT THAT THIS IS SOMEBODY RARE WHERE ITS COMING TOGETHER NOT, NOT CONSOLIDATING BECAUSE OF FINANCIAL PROBLEMS BUT TO DO A BETTER JOB OF SERVING STUDENTS AND MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY.
AND SO I THINK FROM DAY 1, THEY'VE, THEY'VE BEEN HELPFUL AND NOT, NOT FROM MY OBSERVATION NOT FELT THE NEED TO CONSTANTLY BE LOOKING AND CHECKING AND MAKE SURE THAT WE WERE DOING WHAT WE SAID WE WERE DOING.
I THINK, THAT JUST REALLY SPEAKS TO THE HISTORY OF OUR 7 COLLEGES HOW WELL THEY WORK IN THE PAST WHICH I THINK HONESTLY HAS RESULTED IN AN EXPEDITED PROCESS.
WITH THAT TRUST AND COMES AT ALTHOUGH OF RESPONSIBILITY TO LIVE UP TO THAT
>> I WOULD AGREE WITH DR. MAY AND DR. FLOYD.
THERE'S NOTHING ABOUT THESE UP COMING VISITS THAT HAS ME WORRIED OR CONCERNED THAT WE HAVE, THAT WE'VE GOT BIG PROBLEMS. I WOULD SAY YOU KNOW LIKE I SAID DURING THE PRESENTATION, IT'S NORMAL AND TYPICAL FOR THOSE VISITS FOR THEM IS TO SAY WE WOULD LIKE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT A, B OR C.
THAT'S A VERY NORMAL RESPONSE.
AND I WOULD EXPECT THAT KIND OF OUTCOME.
BUT THERE'S NOTHING THAT I WOULD EXPECT TO BE PARTICULARLY CONCERNING.
BECAUSE WE HAVE MADE A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF PROGRESS IN BECOMING DALLAS COLLEGE WE REALLY HAVE IMPLEMENTED NOT JUST LEADERSHIP STRUCTURES BUT THOSE LEADERS HAVE BEEN ENGAGED IN REALLY ACROSS THE BOARD PROCESSES TO FOR US TO OPERATE LIKE A SINGLE COLLEGE.
AND WE DO HAVE A LOT OF ACTUAL, YOU KNOW WE CAN LEAN ON A LOT OF HISTORIC PROCESSES WHERE WE HAD ALIGNMENT AND COOPERATION FOR SOME TIME.
SO I, NOTHING, NOTHING THAT I FIND TO BE YOU KNOW KEEPING ME UP AT NIGHT WORRIED.
WE'VE GOT LOT FOR THAT REPORTING.
AND TO BE ABLE TO TELL OUR STORY WELL.
BUT, IT'S NOTHING THAT I FEEL LIKE WE'VE GOT SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCIES TO WORRY ABOUT.
I REALLY APPRECIATE THE WAY ALL OF YOU ARE LEVERAGING OUR REPUTATION OUR ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE WHICH HAS CHANGE CHANGED ALTHOUGH BUT ALSO OUR PEOPLE ASSETS FACULTY INVENTORY.
WE'VE GOT SUCH DEPTH AND QUALITY ACROSS THE BOARD AND SEEMS CREDIT ACCREDITORS HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THAT FOR ARE LONG TIME YOU'RE AS WE BECOME ONE COLLEGE.
AND THEN THE LAST COUPLE MORE ITEMS.
[5.C. 1) Faculty Sabbatical Leave]
THERE'S INFORMATIVE REPORT ON THE FACULTY SABBATICAL LEAVE.NOT SURE IF ANYONE HAS QUESTIONS ON THAT.
THEN AN ITEM FOR REVIEW COMMITTEE NOTES FROM THE NOVEMBER 10TH EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE COMMITTEE MEETING.
ANY COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS ON EITHER ONE OF THOSE ITEMS?
I HAVE A COMMENT WELL A QUESTION.
SO ARE AWAY RECEIVED A REPORT HAVING TO DO WITH A WHERE WE WERE ON ENROLLMENT AS REGARDS TO STUDENTS THAT DID NOT COME BACK FOR FALL 2020.
AND MAJOR ZIP COATS ARE WHERE THESE STUDENTS DROPPED OFF AND POSSIBLE BEST THOUGHTS ON WHY, ET CETERA.
SO I DON'T KNOW IF RIGHT NOW IS APPROPRIATE TIME TO DO THAT, BUT WHAT ARE WE DOING FOR THIS INCOMING SEMESTER SPRING 2021 SEMESTER TO REACH THOSE STUDENTS AND HOPEFULLY ENTICE SOME OF THEM TO COME BACK? THERE WAS NO FOLLOW-UP TO INQUIRY THUS FAR.
>> PROBABLY DR. JONES COULD COMMENT.
THOSE ARE REALLY DAILY CONVERSATIONS INVOLVING LOTS OF OUR FOLKS AND A LOT OF DIFFERENT I GUESS TYPES OF ENGAGEMENTS GOING ON.
SO IT'S, IT'S FAIRLY COMPREHENSIVE A LOT OF DETAIL THAT IS INVOLVING A LOT OF PERSONAL ONE-ON-ONE AND ENGAGEMENT OF FOLKS AND REALLY TRYING TO UNDERSTAND THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS.
ALSO, PART OF THAT IS THE HOPEFULLY LETTING FOLKS KNOW THAT WE DO HAVE RESOURCES AVAILABLE FOR EMERGENCY AID AND OTHERS EVEN THOUGH WE CAN'T USE THAT FOR TUITION PURPOSES, PER THE FEDERAL REGULATIONS ON THAT.
WE CAN HELP RENT ELECTRICITY, FOOD OTHER THINGS THAT ARE NEEDED.
[00:45:01]
BUT DR. JONES IF YOU WANT TO GIVE AN OVERVIEW SINCE THERE'S OBVIOUSLY A LOT OF WORK THAT IS TAKING PLACE THERE.>> DR. MAYS IF I COULD SUGGEST, RATHER THAN GET ANECDOTAL INFORMATION POSSIBLY AT THE FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING ACCORDING TO OUR WHAT IRRELEVANT ENROLLMENT NUMBERS ARE THEN FOR SPRING SEMESTER EVEN THEY WON'T BE, I DON'T KNOW WILL WE CLASS DAY FOR CERTIFICATION AT THE FEBRUARY BOARD MEETING?
AND WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO, THERE IS JUST ONE BIG PROBLEM QUITE FRANKLY.
AND THAT'S THE COMPLETION OF THE FAFSA ON PART OF STUDENTS THAT WE'RE CONTINUING TO DRIVE.
THAT WAS PART OF THE DALLAS COUNTY PROMISE THAT -- THAT LOT OF RESOURCE HAVE BEEN GOING TO GET STUDENTS BECAUSE IF YOU'RE COMING FROM LOW SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUND WHICH ARE THE POPULATION THAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT, CHAIR FLORES, THAT IF AN IT'S A 1 TO RELATIONSHIP IF YOU COMPLETE THE FAFSA YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO COLLEGE IF YOU WHICH DON'T YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT GOING TO REMAIN.
AND WITHOUT THAT YOU'RE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR OUR EMERGENCY AID.
YOU'RE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A LOT OF OUR OTHER RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE AVAILABLE.
AND YOU KNOW, THE WE CONTINUE TO ENLIST THE HELP OF A LOT OF OTHER FOLKS TO HELP US WITH THAT TO GET THAT WORD ACROSS BECAUSE WE CAN'T DO THAT ONE FOR THE STUDENTS.
AND IT REALLY TAKES THAT ENGAGEMENT OF THEIR PARENTS SPECIFICALLY GETTING INVOLVED.
WHICH WHERE THEY RUN INTO THE BIGGEST BARRIER.
THAT CONTINUES TO BIGGEST CHALLENGE
>> SO COULD WE GET A REPORT EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE AT THE FEBRUARY MEETING REGARDING THAT GROUP OF STUDENTS AND GET THE DATA FOR THOSE WHO ARE ON THE FAFSA AND DIDN'T RETURN BUT THOSE THAT AREN'T.
BUT WE ARE DIRECTLY SURVEYING OUR STUDENTS ARE WE GETTING DIRECTLY FROM THEM OTHER THAN MAKING BEST GUESSES I IMAGINE WE HAVE ENOUGH RESOURCES AND HOPEFULLY PERSONNEL TO SURVEY OUR STUDENTS DIRECTLY?
>> WE SURVEYED OVER 5,000 OR OF THOSE.
THOSE CONTINUAL DAILY CALLS AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THAT.
I THINK WE'RE GETTING BETTER AT COMPILING THE DATA.
A LOT OF THOSE EARLY ON WE AS WE TALKED TO STUDENTS WE'RE JUST TRYING TO HELP THEM AND GET THEM ENROLLED AS FAST AS WE CAN IN THAT PROCESS.
AND SO SOMETIMES WE DID THAT WITHOUT BECAUSE WE'RE FACING DEADLINES.
>> WE ARE COLLECTING INFORMATION.
WE ARE REACHING OUT TO STUDENTS AND WE WILL BE ABLE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH SOME MORE DETAIL INFORMATION FEBRUARY BOARD.
WE ARE CALLING STUDENTS, WE ARE PROVIDING ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORT.
WE ARE PARTNERING WITH COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO HELP US A WELL.
SO ABSOLUTELY WE CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH A MORE WHOLISTIC PICTURE OF WHERE WE STAND AND PROGRAMS AND ASSISTANCE THAT WE PROVIDED OUR STUDENTS.
AT ANY OTHER BARRIER THEY MIGHT HAVE.
CHANCE LORE MAY IS 100 PERCENT CORRECT.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES WE'VE ENCOUNTERED IS STUDENTS NOT FILLING OUT FAFSA WHICH MAY PROVIDE AN INCREDIBLE BARRIER WE'RE UNABLE TO PROVIDE THEM ANY SUPPORT.
THAT'S FOCUS OF OUR EFFORTS AS WELL.
WITH OUT REACH AND SUPPORT FOR ADMISSIONS REGISTRATION, FINANCIAL AID, COUNSELLING, ET CETERA.
SO WE ARE, WE HAVE ALL OF THOSE EFFORTS AND MORE THAN HAPPY TO SHARE OUR EFFORTS AND OUR RESULTS WITH YOU IN FEBRUARY.
>> SO YOU STATED THAT WE CAN'T PROVIDE THEM WITH ANY SUPPORT IF THEY HAVE NOT FILLED OUT TAFSA OR FAFSA I CAN'T -- WE'RE NOT PROVIDING SUPPORT TO STUDENTS NOT ON EITHER ONES OF THOSE DO WE NEGLECT THOSE STUDENTS THAT DON'T
>> NO WE'RE UNABLE TO PROVIDE.
[00:50:02]
THEY CANNOT FOR EXAMPLE, THEY CANNOT WE CANNOT GIVE THEM SPECIAL TPEG FROM THE STATE THERE A REQUIREMENT TO THE FAFSA OR TAFSA ON FILE.THEY CANNOT APPLY FOR EMERGENCY AID.
BUT OF COURSE WE PROVIDE SUPPORT AS MUCH AS WE CAN.
WE HAVE SOME FUNDING THAT WE CAN PROVIDE.
UNFORTUNATELY, YOU KNOW, THE KIND OF SUPPORT THAT THEY COULD GET FROM THE CARES ACT, THEY ARE INELIGIBLE TO ACCESS.
>> OBVIOUSLY WE ARE WORKING WITH ALL OF OUR STUDENTS.
AND TRYING TO GET THEM WHAT WE CAN.
A WE SHARED OUR FOUNDATION BOARD AT OUR MOST RECENT MEETING, THAT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE RANGE OF DOLLARS PIPER WE CAN REALLY GO ANYWHERE FROM 500 TO $5,000.
EVEN THOUGH OUR TUITION IS ONLY ROUGHLY $2,370 A YEAR FOR TUITION.
WE'VE GIVEN STUDENTS $5,000 TO TAKE CARE OF RENT, TRANSPORTATION, FOOD, AND OTHER RESOURCES THAT THEY HAVE AVAILABLE BECAUSE THEY COMPLETED THE FAFSA AND TAFSA.
WE CAN'T USE RESOURCES FRANK COMPARING PENCE TO DOLLARS WHAT WE HAVE RESOURCES TO HELP STUDENTS WHEN WE COMPARE THE NEED.
BUT UNFORTUNATELY, SOMETIMES IT ENDS UP BEING MORE HAND HOLDING AND ENCOURAGEMENT AND LESS CHECK WRITING IF THEY DON'T TAKE THOSE STEPS.
I WAS CONFUSED BY STATEMENT WE CAN'T PROVIDE THEM ANY SUPPORT.
YOU CAN'T PROVIDE CERTAIN STUDENTS ANY SUPPORT BUT IN TERMS OF STUDENTS THERE'S M.
SUPPORT WE PROVIDE IF IT'S NOT TIED TO THE FINANCIAL PART
WE PROVIDE SUPPORT TO ANY STUDENT.
YOU KNOW, NOT ONLY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT FINANCIAL SUPPORT, BUT WE HAVE A LOT OF NEED FOR HOUSING, FOR FOOD, FOR COUNSELLING, MENTAL HEALTH, TELEMEDICINE WE PROVIDE ALL OF THAT SUPPORT AND ENCOURAGE OUR STUDENTS AND KEEP UP WITH THEIR NEED.
BUT, THAT'S WHAT I MEANT I'M SORRY IF I MISSPOKE.
>> THANK YOU, LET'S HOPE THE PICTURE STARTS TO LOOK BETTER.
BUT WHATEVER WE CAN TO WE CAPTURE STUDENTS.
>> I CONGRESS MOVED FORWARD WITH STIMULUS PACKAGE.
FRANKLY WE'RE KIND OF DISAPPOINTED I JUST GOT NOTE WHILE WE WERE IN THIS MEETING ON AMOUNT OF DOLLARS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION.
ONLY GOING TO BE ABOUT 20 BILLION.
I REALIZE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A BIG NUMBER, BUT, YOU KNOW WHEN THE, WHEN WE LOOK AT THE NEEDS THAT ARE GOING ON, THAT'S NOT GOING TO GO VERY FAR WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE BILLIONS OF STUDENTS ENROLLED IN A HIGHER EDUCATION AND THOUSANDS OF INSTITUTIONS THAT ARE SERVING THOSE.
HOPEFULLY WE WE'LL HAVE LESS STRINGS, QUITE HONESTLY PART OF FRUSTRATION THAT WE FACE THIS TIME AROUND IS THAT THEY, THEY LITERALLY OUR TEAM WAS HAVING TO CHANGE THE RULES AND WE'RE GETTING NEW RULE CHANGES DAILY FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.
THERE WAS CONTRADICTORY INFORMATION IN WRITING THAT WE RECEIVED FROM THEM.
ONE DAY WE WOULD TOLD THAT WE COULD SERVE STUDENTS THE NEXT DAY WE WERE TOLD YOU CAN'T SERVE STUDENTS.
AND SO, AND WHO THEY WERE AND WHAT REASONS WERE ARE.
SO WE PROBABLY WON'T SEE SOME OF THAT EASING UP IN THE SHORT RUN.
BUT MORE MONEY DOES HELP MORE STUDENTS.
AND WE DON'T KNOW -- LAST TIME OUT 20 MILLION WE RECEIVED FULLY HALF OF IT WAS SPECIFICALLY FOR EMERGENCY AID TO STUDENTS.
SO THAT, THAT'S I DOUBT IF THAT'S GOING TO CHANGE IN TERMS OF THE BASIC FORMULA.
WE PAID A REAL PRICE COMPARED TO OTHER INSTITUTIONS BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY RESOURCES FOR ONLINE STUDENTS.
WELL WE ALREADY HAD WELL, ALMOST $30,000 ONLINE STUDENTS.
SO WE GOT $0 TO SUPPORT THOSE NEEDS.
EVEN THOUGH WE WENT 100 PERCENT ONLINE.
SO THE IRONY OF SOME OF THAT FROM WILL THE FEDERAL POLICY ESCAPED ME.
BUT, STILL, THAT'S THE REALITY.
WE, WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE I THINK RESOURCES AVAILABLE INTO SPRING TERM.
[00:55:11]
I THINK THAT'S ALL WE HAVE FOR THIS COMMITTEE MEETING WE DON'T NEED AN EXECUTIVE SESSION.
WE WILL GO AHEAD AND ADJOURN THE EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE COMMITTEE MEETING AT 2:55 P.M.
